भारत ने आज मलेशिया सरकार के अनुरोध पर मलेशिया एयरलाइंस के लापता विमान की खोज रोक दी है। मलेशिया सरकार इस विमान की सप्ताह भर से चल रही खोजबीन का फिर से आंकलन करना चाहती है, क्योंकि अब इसका अपहरण किये जाने का संदेह है। भारत के पूर्वी नौसैनिक कमान के प्रवक्ता ने कहा कि भारत दो इलाकों में इस विमान की खोज में लगा हुआ था। प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि मलेशिया के अधिकारी स्थिति का फिर से आंकलन कर रहे हैं और वे खोज के इलाके के बारे में जानकारी देगें।

अंडमान और निकोबार द्वीप समूह में समेकित कमान ने विमान का पता लगाने के लिए पिछले तीन दिनों में भारतीय वायु सीमा और अंडमान सागर तथा बंगाल की खाड़ी में दो लाख ५० हजार वर्ग किलोमीटर से भी अधिक इलाके में बड़े पैमाने पर खोजबीन का काम किया। ये कार्य कमांडर इन चीफ, एयर मार्शल पी.के. रॉय के नेतृत्व में किया गया। इस समन्वित खोज कार्य के लिए नौसेना के अनेक जहाजों, वायुसेना के विमानों और तटरक्षक गश्ती जहाजों को काम पर लगाया गया, लेकिन मलेशिया के लापता विमान के बारे में कहीं पर भी कोई जानकारी नहीं मिल सकी।

अमरीकी खुफिया अधिकारी अब कॉकपिट में तैनात विमान चालकों को लेकर ध्यान केन्द्रित कर रहे हैं। मीडिया ने अमरीका के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी के हवाले से कहा है कि जांचकर्ता, विमान चालकों के बारे में अब तक उपलब्ध सूचना की सावधानी से समीक्षा कर रहे हैं, ताकि किसी योजना या इरादे के बारे में किसी संकेत को लेकर किसी नतीजे पर पहुंचा जा सके। यह कार्रवाई इस ख़बर के मिलने के बाद की जा रही है कि मलेशिया के अधिकारियों ने कैप्टन ज+हारी अहमद शाह के मकान की तलाशी ली। शाह इस लापता विमान का पायलट था।

असम में लोकसभा चुनाव सुचारू रूप से कराने के लिए केन्द्रीय अर्ध सैन्य बलों की ५८ अतिरिक्त टुकड़ियां तैनात की जाएंगी। राज्य के गृह विभाग के सूत्रों ने बताया कि इन टुकड़ियों के २० मार्च के बाद राज्य में पहुंच जाने की आशा है। उग्रवादी गुटों द्वारा राज्य में चुनाव प्रक्रिया में रूकावट डालने की खुफिया जानकारी के बाद शांतिपूर्वक मतदान के सभी उपाय किए जा रहे हैं।

पंजाब राज्य चुनाव कार्यालय आज सभी मतदान केन्द्रों पर दूसरा विशेष अभियान चला रहा है। जो लोग नौ मार्च को इस अभियान के पहले चरण में फार्म-६ नहीं भर पाये थे, उन्हें एक और मौका दिया जा रहा है। राज्य के मुख्य चुनाव अधिकारी ने सभी चुनाव अधिकारियों से कहा है कि वे २७ मार्च तक मतदाता सूचियों में नाम दर्ज करें। उन्होंने मंगलवार तक उनसे इस बारे में पूरी रिपोर्ट मांगी है।

India today put on hold its search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, at the request of the government in Kuala Lumpur, which wants to reassess the week-old hunt for the Boeing 777 that is now suspected of being hijacked. A spokesman for the country's Eastern Naval Command Commander Babu said, India had been searching in two areas, one around the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and a second further west in the Bay of Bengal. Both searches have been suspended. He said, Malaysian authorities are reassessing the situation and will figure whether they need to shift the area of search.

The lone Integrated command in Andaman and Nicobar islands carried out a massive search operation under the overall command of the Commander in Chief , Air Marshall P K Roy and covered more than 250,000 Sq Kms. Over the Indian air space and Andaman sea and Bay of Bengal for the last three days. A number of navy ships, Air force aircrafts and the patrolling vessels of the Coast Guard were deployed for this coordinated search operation. But, there has been no sighting of the missing Malaysian jet anywhere.

Meanwhile, US intelligence officials are now focusing on those in the cockpit - the pilots - who knew how to avoid detection when navigating around Asia. A senior US law enforcement official was quoted by Media as saying that investigators are carefully reviewing the information so far collected on the pilots to determine whether there is something to indicate a plan or a motive. It followed news that Malaysian authorities searched the house of Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, the pilot of the missing flight.

In Assam, 58 additional companies of central Para-military forces will be deployed to ensure hassle free polls. Sources in the state Home department said that these companies are expected to arrive after 20th of this month. The government has hiked the import tariff value on gold to 445 dollar per 10 grams from 433 dollar per 10 gram earlier. A notification by the Central Board of Excise and Customs however said, the import tariff value -- the base price at which customs duty is determined to prevent under-invoicing -- in case of silver has been reduced to 694 dollar per kg from 699 per kg earlier. The tariff value is revised on a fortnightly basis after analysing the global price trend. Gold is the second largest import item for India after petroleum. The government has taken several measures to curb gold shipments to address the high current account deficit.

At least 2 people were killed and two others injured in a fire on the 10TH floor of a residential society building in Sundarban park area in Thane in Mumbai. In the Kashmir valley, authorities today imposed curfew in Bandipora district and restrictions are being enforced under section 144 in towns of Sopore, Pattan, Palhalan, Baramulla and some parts of interior Srinagar city. The step has been taken in view of a protest bandh called by separatist groups against killing of a youth in Naidkhai on 14th March allegedly in police firing. The Government has already ordered a majesterial inquiry into the firing incident in which the youth was killed. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in strength to maintain law and order during the bandh.

Crimea is today voting on whether to re-join Russia or stay with Ukraine - a referendum condemned as illegal by Kiev and the West but backed by Moscow. NATO has said several of its websites were targeted in a significant cyber-attack yesterday. According to NATO it appeared to be the latest bout of virtual warfare linked to the Ukrainian crisis. The Ukrainian hackers claimed that they had targeted three NATO websites. Spokeswoman for the military alliance Oana Lungescu said on Twitter that the websites had been hit by a significant (denial of service) attack, but that it had had no operational impact. Under such attacks, hackers hijack multiple computers to send a flood of data to the target, crippling its computer system. She said experts are working to restore normal function but the websites remained down for hours and still could not be accessed today.

According to sources, the second phase of peace talks between the Pakistan government and Taliban is likely to start next week. The possible dates and venues of direct talks between a government team and the Shura of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were discussed at a meeting. बाबा रामदेव ने दूसरे दिन शिविर के बहाने कार्यकर्ता सम्मेलन के दौरान इशारों-इशारों में कांग्रेस की छीछालेदर और भाजपा की हिमायत करना नहीं भूले। विदेशी बहू, दिल्ली का भोंदू पप्पू जैसे संबोधनों से कांग्रेस पर तीखे कटाक्ष करते रहे। भ्रष्टाचार पर भी चोट की। पूरे कार्यक्रम के दौरान आचार संहिता का कहीं अड़ंगा नहीं लगा।

गुरुवार को राजकीय इंटर कालेज के मैदान पर बाबा ने शिविर के दूसरे दिन भी कांग्रेस पर खूब निशाने साधे। कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी और उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी पर कड़े प्रहार किए तो नरेंद्र मोदी की शान में खूब कसीदे पढ़े। बाबा शिविर के दूसरे दिन चुनावी कसरत भी करते रहे।

योगासन सिखाते हुए बीच-बीच में सोनिया गांधी और अरविंद केजरीवाल पर निशाने साधते रहे। किसी नेता व दल का नाम लिए बगैर ही बोले कि अगड़ों और पिछड़ों की राजनीति करने वालों को भी सबक सिखाना है। नारा दिया कि भ्रष्टाचार को मिटाना है और विदेशों में जमा काला धन वापस लाना है।

लोगों से इस नारे के समर्थन में हाथ भी उठवाया। उन्होंने सोनिया गांधी और राहुल गांधी का नाम लिए बगैर कहा कि दिल्ली में ‘भोदू पप्पू’ (राहुल गांधी) ने कुछ लोगों को इकट्ठा किया। जब भीड़ न जुटा सके तो सात मिनट में ही अपनी बात कहकर चल दिए।

 

विदेशी बहू ने खेला खेल!

उन्होंने कहा कि एक बहू विदेश से ऐसी आई, जिसने पूरी ससुराल को ही लूट लिया। गरीब व दलित प्रेम के फोटो खिंचवा कर दिखाने वालों में अगर सच्चा प्रेम है तो वह दलित की बेटी से शादी कर लें लेकिन वह ऐसा नहीं कर सकते क्योंकि उन्हें दलित की नहीं, दौलत की बेटी चाहिए।

उन्होंने कहा कि जालौन गरौठा क्षेत्र में बेईमानों की जमानत जब्त नहीं करानी है बल्कि उन्हें अपने क्षेत्र में ही नहीं घुसने देना है। उत्तर प्रदेश से ही रामायण और महाभारत लिखी गई और यहीं चाणक्य जैसे लोग पैदा हुए। रामायण और महाभारत काल के राक्षस आज फिर उत्पन्न हो गए हैं। उन्हें वोट की चोट से नष्ट करना है।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए अपने उम्मीदवारों की तीसरी सूची जारी कर दी है। इस सूची में ९७ उम्मीदवारों के नाम शामिल हैं। पार्टी की केन्द्रीय समिति की कल रात नई दिल्ली में हुई बैठक में यह फैसला किया गया। पार्टी की वरिष्ठ नेता सुषमा स्वराज मध्य प्रदेश में विदिशा संसदीय क्षेत्र से चुनाव लड़ेंगी। राष्ट्रीय जनता दल को छोड़कर हाल ही में भाजपा में शामिल हुए राम कृपाल यादव बिहार में पाटलीपुत्र से लालू प्रसाद की पुत्री मीसा भारती के खिलाफ चुनाव लड़ेंगे। मौजूदा सांसद कीर्ति आजाद दरभंगा से जबकि राजीव प्रताप रूढ़ी सारण से उम्मीदवार होंगे। शाहनवाज हुसैन को भागलपुर से उम्मीदवार बनाया गया है। राम टहल चौधरी रांची से चुनाव लड़ेंगे जबकि पूर्व केन्द्रीय मंत्री यशवंत सिन्हा के पुत्र जयंत सिन्हा हजारीबाग से चुनाव लड़ेंगे। सुमित्रा महाजन को मध्य प्रदेश में इंदौर से उम्मीदवार बनाया गया है। एस. एस. अहलुवालिया पश्चिम बंगाल में दार्जिलिंग संसदीय सीट पर भाजपा के उम्मीदवार होंगे।

लोकसभा चुनावों के लिए इस सूची में शामिल प्रमुख नेताओं में केन्द्रीय मंत्री वीरप्पा मोइली, के. वी. थॉमस, शशि थरूर, वी. नारायण सामी तथा पूर्व मंत्री पवन कुमार बंसल और सुबोध कान्त सहाय हैं।
वीरप्पा मोइली कर्नाटक में चिकबल्लापुर से चुनाव लड़ेंगे, पवन कुमार बंसल चंडीगढ़ से और सुबोध कान्त सहाय रांची से लोकसभा चुनाव लड़ेंगे।
कांग्रेस सांसद पी. सी. चाको चलाकुडी सीट से, राज बब्बर गाजियाबाद से और अभिनेत्री नगमा मेरठ लोकसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से पार्टी के उम्मीदवार होंगे।
उत्तर प्रदेश कांग्रेस की पूर्व अध्यक्ष रीता बहुगुणा जोशी  लखनऊ से चुनाव लड़ेगी।
इस सूची में कर्नाटक के लिए दस, केरल के लिए पन्द्रह, उत्तर प्रदेश के लिए तेरह और महाराष्ट्र के लिए सात उम्मीदवार शामिल हैं।

असम में लोकसभा चुनाव के पहले चरण की अधिसूचना आज जारी की जाएगी। पहले चरण में अगले महीने की सात तारीख को पाँच सीटों पर मतदान होगा। ये हैं-तेजपुर, कलियाबोर, जोरहाट, डिब्रूगढ़ और लखीमपुर।
निर्वाचन आयोग ने चुनाव से जुड़ी कोई भी शिकायत दर्ज कराने के लिए निशुल्क फोन नम्बर १ ९ ५ ० शुरू किया है। दूसरी ओर आयकर विभाग ऐसी नकदी और अन्य संदिग्ध वस्तुओं के लाने ले जाने पर नजर रख रहा है जिसका इस्तेमाल मतदाताओं को लुभाने के लिए किया जा सकता है। आयकर महानिदेशालय ने निशुल्क नम्बर  १ ८ ० ० ३ ४ ५ ३ ६ १ ९ के साथ शिकायत निगरानी और नियंत्रण कक्ष बनाया है, जो २४ घंटे खुला रहेगा।

त्रिपुरा के पहले चरण के चुनाव के तहत त्रिपुरा-पश्चिम लोकसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र के लिए अधिसूचना आज जारी होगी। उम्मीदवार २० मार्च तक अपना नामांकन दाखिल कर सकते हैं। जबकि २१ मार्च को नामांकन की जांच होगी और २४ मार्च तक नाम वापस लिये जा सकते हैं। १२ लाख ४६ हजार से अधिक मतदाता अगले महीने की सात तारीख को अपने मताधिकार का इस्तेमाल करेंगे।
बिहार में लोकसभा चुनाव के पहले चरण की अधिसूचना कल जारी कर दी गई। पहले चरण में अगले महीने की दस तारीख को छह सीटों पर मतदान होगा। इनमें सासाराम, काराकाट, औरंगाबाद, गया, नवादा और जमुई शामिल हैं।

दक्षिण बिहार के नक्सलवाद से प्रभावित ६ लोकसभा क्षेत्रों में मतदाताओं को मताधिकार के लिए दो घंटे कम समय मिल पाएगा। बिहार के अपर मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी आर. लक्ष्मणन ने पटना में पत्रकारों को बताया कि पहले चरण में १० अप्रैल के चुनाव में इन क्षेत्रों में मतदान  सुबह ७ बजे शुरू होगा लेकिन शाम ६ बजे की बजाए ४ बजे ही खत्म हो जाएगा।

निर्वाचन आयोग ने आंध्रप्रदेश को चुनाव खर्च की दृष्टि से संवेदनशील करार देते हुए प्रशासन से चुनाव खर्च पर नजर रखने के लिए विशेष उपाय करने को कहा है। निर्वाचन उपायुक्त विनोद जुत्शी ने कल हैदराबाद में जिला अधिकारियों और पुलिस अधीक्षकों के साथ बैठक कर चुनाव तैयारियों की समीक्षा की। संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री जुत्शी ने कहा कि प्रशासन ने पिछले एक सप्ताह में १६ करोड़ रूपये की रकम जब्त की है।

दिल्ली चुनाव कार्यालय होली के त्यौहार के पहले राजनीतिक पार्टियों द्वारा आदर्श चुनाव आचार संहिता के उल्लंघन की गतिविधियों पर निगाह रखेगा। मुख्य नोडल अधिकारी अंकुर गर्ग ने कहा कि राजनीतिक पार्टियां किसी त्यौहार या धार्मिक उत्सव को अपने राजनीतिक हित या चुनाव प्रचार के लिए इस्तेमाल नहीं कर सकतीं। इस बीच सार्वजनिक सम्पत्तियों को कुरूप बनाने के खिलाफ कार्रवाई करते हुए निर्वाचन कार्यालय ने अबतक सार्वजनिक भवनों से ५ सौ २७ होर्डिंग्स हटाये हैं और ६२ एफ आई आर दर्ज की हैं।
सीरिया में संसद ने एक नया चुनाव कानून सर्वसम्मति से पारित कर दिया है जिसके तहत कई उम्मीदवारों को राष्ट्रपति पद का चुनाव लडने की अनुमति दी गयी है। ंइस कदम से राष्ट्रपति बशर अल असद के अलावा कई अन्य उम्मीदवारों के लिए राष्ट्रपति पद का चुनाव लड़ने के दरवाजे खुल गए हैं।

श्रीलंका में, मन्नार की एक अदालत ने  २४ भारतीय मछुआरों को रिहा करने का आदेश दिया है। इन मछुआरों को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुद्री सीमा पार करने की वजह से श्रीलंकाई नौसेना ने गिरफ्तार किया था। और ब्यौरे के साथ हमारे संवाददाता-

जिन १७७ भारतीय मछुआरों को जनवरी की चेन्नई वार्ता के बाद पकड़ा गया था उनमें से १४० को देश की विभिन्न अदालतों ने छोड़ दिया है और ३२ मछुआरों का मामला आज ईस्ट आइलैंड की अदालत में पेश किए जाने किए जाने की संभावना है। ५ मछुआरों पर कुछ अन्य आरोप लगे होने के कारण इन पर अदालत द्वारा फैसला बाद में लिया जाएगा। मछुआरों की रिहाई २५ तारीख को कोलंबों में होने वाली वार्ता से पहले की गई है। इस वार्ता में एक दूसरे के क्षेत्र में घुसकर मछली पकड़ने की समस्या का स्थाई समाधान ढूंढ़ने के लिए विभिन्न प्रस्तावों पर बातचीत होगी। अभिषेक दयाल, आकाशवाणी समाचार, कोलंबो।

दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने दिल्ली में १६ दिसम्बर २०१२ को हुए २३ वर्षीय लड़की के साथ सामूहिक दुष्कर्म और उसकी हत्या के लिए चार दोषियों को दिए गए मृत्युदंड की पुष्टि कर दी है। न्यायमूर्ति रेवा खेत्रपाल और न्यायमूर्ति प्रतिभा रानी की पीठ ने अक्षय ठाकुर, विनय शर्मा, पवन गुप्ता और मुकेश के मृत्युदंड की सजा को बरकरार रखा है।

The Bhartiya Janta Party, BJP has released the third list of its candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha Polls. The list includes 97 names. The decision was taken at the party's Central Committee meeting held in New Delhi last night. Senior party leader Sushma Swaraj will contest from the Vidisha Parliamentary Constituency in Madhya Pradesh. Ram Kripal Yadav, who recently joined the BJP after quitting the RJD, will contest from Patliputra against Lalu Prasad's daughter Misa Bharti. The late Pramod Mahajan's daughter Poonam Mahajan and former Home Secretary R K Singh also figure in the list. The sitting MP, Kirti Jha Azad will contest from Darbhanga, while Rajiv Pratap Rudy will fight from Saran constituency in Bihar. Shahnawaz Hussain will be contesting from Bhagalpur. Ramtahal Chaudhary is the candidate from Ranchi while Jayant Sinha, son of former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha will contest from Hazaribagh. Sumitra Mahajan will fight the election from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. S.S. Ahluwalia will be the BJP candidate from Darjeeling in West Bengal.

The Congress also announced the 2nd list of candidates for 71 seats after the central election committee meeting in New Delhi yesterday. Union Ministers Veerappa Moily, K V Thomas, Shashi Tharoor, V Narayanasamy and former ministers Pawan Kumar Bansal and Subodh Kant Sahai are prominent leaders figuring in the second list of the Congress. Moily will fight from the Chikkballapur seat in Karnataka, Thomas from Ernakulam, Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Narayansamy will be the party candidate in Puducherry. On the other hand, Bansal will try his electoral fate from Chandigarh and Sahai from Ranchi. Congress MP, P C Chacko will fight from the Chalakudy seat; Raj Babbar who is currently representing the Firozabad seat will contest  from Ghaziabad while actress turned politician Nagma will be the party candidate from the Meerut Lok Sabha constituency. Former Uttar Pradesh Congress Chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi will fight from Lucknow. The list includes 10 candidates for Karnataka, 15 for Kerala, 13 for Uttar Pradesh and 7 for Maharashtra.

In Assam and Tripura notification for the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls will be issued today. Polling for five seats in Assam will be held on the 7th of next month in the first phase, which will cover Tezpur, Kaliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur.

The Election Commission has set up a toll free phone number 1950 to lodge any poll related complaint. On the other hand, the Income Tax Department is also keeping an eye on the movement of cash and other items suspected to be used for bribing voters.

In Tripura, candidates can file their nominations till the 20th of March while scrutiny of nomination forms will be held on the 21st of March. Candidates can withdraw their nominations upto 24th March.

In Bihar, notification for the first phase of Lok Sabha Election was issued yesterday. Polling for six seats will be held on the 10th of next month in the first phase. It will cover Sasaram, Karakat, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada and Jamui. With the issuance of the notification, filing of nomination for these constituencies has also begun. Candidates can file their nominations till the 20th of March while the scrutiny of nomination forms will be held on the 21st of March. Candidates can withdraw their nominations upto 24th March.  Meanwhile, voters in six Lok Sabha constituencies of south Bihar affected by Naxalism will get two hours less to exercise their franchise. Bihar Additional Chief Electoral Officer R Lakshmanan told reporters in Patna that  polling in these areas will start at 7 am, but will end at 4 pm instead of 6 pm.

The Chief Electoral Office in Delhi will keep a tab on activities by political parties ahead of the festive season, for any violations of the Model Code of Conduct. Chief Nodal Officer, Ankur Garg said, no political parties can use a festival or a religious occasion to further their political interest or as a means of campaign. Meanwhile, a total of 70 FIRs have been lodged against various political parties and other so far in connection with the violation of the Model Code of Conduct in Delhi. According to the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, these include 10 FIRs each against Congress and BJP and 7 against the Aam Aadmi Party. Official sources also said that so far 527 hoardings and stick bills have been removed from the public property and 62 cases for defacement of property were registered.

The Election Commission has asked the authorities in Andhra Pradesh to initiate special measures to keep a check on election expenditure terming it an Expenditure Sensitive state. Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi yesterday reviewed the poll preparedness with District collectors and SPs in Hyderabad. Speaking to reporters later, Mr Zutshi said, the authorities have seized 16 crore rupees of unaccounted cash in the past one week and an expenditure observer will be appointed for each parliamentary constituency.

The Convener of the Election Commission of India's Liquor Monitoring Committee, Santosh K. Mishra, has arrived in Nagaland for reviewing measures for preventing illegal distribution of liquor during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The review will be done with all the Administration, Police and Excise authority today over video conferencing.

In Syria, the parliament has unanimously approved a new election law which allows multiple candidates to run for President. The move has opened the door to other potential contenders besides President Bashar Assad. The opposition Syrian National Coalition has rejected the move and held the election law adopted by parliament as illegitimate.

The Presidential election law in Syria is significant since the seven year term of President Assad comes to an end on 17th of July. Syrian officials have said that the Presidential elections will be held  between 60 to 90 days before the expiry of the term.  President Assad has suggested he would run again, though he has not confirmed whether he will seek re-election. Under the new law, only Syrian nationals and those who lived in Syria for 10 consecutive years can run for President. The new law is based on the new constitution which was passed in a  referendum in March 2012 in Syria which allowed for a multiparty political system in Syria and multiple Presidential candidates. The massive international search for the missing Malaysian Airliner MH370 is likely to widen into the Indian Ocean with the US deploying a ship to the Andaman Sea to locate the airliner. The move came after the US' defence and aviation experts noted that there was a significant probability of the plane to be at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. India along with US Navy's P-3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft with long-range radar and communication capabilities will search in the Andaman Sea west of the Malacca Strait.

A Sri Lankan court in Mannar has ordered the release of 24 Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy for crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line. Earlier on Wednesday, 116 fishermen were released by a Jaffna court. Our correspondent reports that the case of 32 fishermen is likely to be taken up by Kytes Island court today.           

The process of release of Indian fishermen from Sri Lanka continues. Of the 177 fishermen caught since the last round of talks in Chennai in January, order of release for 140 have been issued by courts in various parts of the country. Cases of 32 more are likely to be taken up today. The matter of remaining 5 may take a little longer as there are some additional charges slapped against them. The release comes ahead of the crucial second round of talks between the fishermen, who are trying to come to an understanding over how to share the scarce fishing resources in an ecologically fragile region. Options like joint ventures into fishing and deep sea fishing will be looked into by the two sides when they meet again on the 25th in Colombo.

Following the Supreme Court order, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has asked 137 judicial officers, serving in various capacities in the state, not to use red or blue beacon atop their vehicles. In compliance with the Supreme Court order, the Transport department of Himachal Pradesh had issued a notification on March 5th about the use of red/blue or multi-coloured flashing lights on the top of vehicles.

Indian archers have bagged two gold and a silver in the team events of the ongoing 1st Asian Grand Prix Archery Championships, at Bangkok. In the Compound Women's team event, the trio of Gagandeep Kaur, V Jyothi Surekha and P Lily Chanu defeated Iran, 219 to 204 to take the first gold.

In the Men's Recurve, the team of Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Kapil clinched the coveted yellow metal by thrashing Taipei, 6-Nil the set system.

In Men's Compound section, the Indian team of Abhishek Verma, Sandeep Kumar and Rajat Chouhan missed out on a gold narrowly as they lost to Iran 227 to 232 to settle for a silver.

The Recurve women's team lost to Japan in the bronze medal match.

In the women's singles, pre-quarter final match yesterday, London Olympics bronze medallist Saina defeated Sashina Vignes Waran of France 21-7, 21-13 while Seventh seeded PV Sindhu beat Li Michelle of Canada 19-21, 21-16, 21-11.

In the Men's Singles pre -quarter final yesterday, Parupalli Kashyap defeated Berry no Jiann Tze Wong of Malaysia 21-23, 21-9, 21-14 .
