सरकार ने कहा है कि देश में डीजल के बारे में ऐसी दोहरी मूल्य नीति शुरू करने का प्रस्ताव विचाराधीन नहीं है, जिससे डीजल से चलने वाली कारों पर खर्च में बढ़ोतरी की स्थिति उत्पन्न हो। नई दिल्ली में भारतीय उद्योग परिसंघ के समारोह को संबोधित करते हुए वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने यह बात कही। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि कर राजस्व में किसी तरह की कमी की भरपाई के लिए शुल्कों में बढ़ोतरी से संबंधित किसी प्रस्ताव पर भी विचार नहीं किया जा रहा है।
डीजल से चलने वाली कारों का इस्तेमाल महंगा हो जाने की संभावना के बारे में लोक सभा में श्री मुखर्जी के बयान के दो दिन बाद यह स्पष्टीकरण सामने आया है।
श्री मुखर्जी ने जोर देकर कहा कि भारत के विकास की प्रक्रिया मजबूत है और पूरे विश्व की मौजूदा नकारात्मक आर्थिक स्थिति के बावजूद देश सराहनीय तरीके से आर्थिक विकास की उपलब्धि हासिल कर लेगा। उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय बाजारों के पास बाहरी दुनिया पर असर डालने वाले नकारात्मक तत्वों से निपटने की क्षमता मौजूद है। स्टैंडर्ड एंड पूअर्स द्वारा अमरीकी क्रेडिट रेटिंग घटाने के मुद्दे पर श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि इसका विपरीत प्रभाव पड़ेगा लेकिन इससे घबराने की जरूरत नहीं है।

आर्थिक मामलों के जानकार बी बी भट्टाचार्य का मानना है कि अमरीका की घटना से भारत पर ज्यादा असर नहीं पड़ेगा।
यूएस सरकार की जो वित्तीय घाटा उसके उपर ट्रेडीटेटिंक एजेंसी का थोड़ा आशंका उन्होंने व्यक्ति किया है। यूएस गवर्नमेंट का अभी डेफिस यूएस जीडीपी से भी ज्यादा हो गया है। मगर उसमें भारत के लिए कोई खतरा नहीं है। क्योंकि भारत तो यूएस गवरमेंट बांड ज्यादा खरीदता भी नहीं है। चीन, जापान, साउथ कोरिया जैसे देश शायद सिंगापुर भी है जो यूएस गवरमेंट का बॉण्ड खरीदता है उसके पास काफी फारेन एक्सचेंज होता है। उसको यूएस गवरमेंट बॉण्ड में रखते हैं भारत के पास उतना वो नहीं है कि बहुत ज्यादा पैसा यूएस गवरमेंट बॉण्ड में रखे।

केन्द्र ने पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार को वित्तीय समस्याओं से निपटने के लिए दो खरब दस अरब+ रुपये की विशेष वित्तीय सहायता देने का फैसला किया है। कोलकाता में कल इसकी जानकारी देते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी ने बताया कि वित्तीय सहायता की राशि में से बयानवे अरब चालीस करोड़ रुपये अनुदान के रूप में मिलेंगे और यह राशि विकास कार्यों पर खर्च की जाएगी। मुख्यमंत्री ने बताया कि वित्तीय सहायता से राज्य सरकार को खराब आर्थिक स्थिति से निपटने में मदद मिल सकेगी।

अमरीकी ऋण संकट से निपटने के लिए किये गये समझौते के बाद अमरीका ने कहा है कि आर्थिक संकट के इस दौर से निकलने के लिए उसे बेहतर प्रयास करने होंगे। व्हाइट हाउस के प्रवक्ता जे कार्न ने कहा कि इस गंभीर आर्थिक संकट से निपटने और अमरीकी अर्थव्यवस्था पर एक बार फिर विश्वास कायम करने के लिए अमरीका को एकजुटता दिखानी होगी।
इस बीच, अमरीकी क्रेडिट रेटिंग गिरने के बाद विश्वभर से मिलीजुली प्रतिक्रियायें आई हैं। चीन की सरकारी मीडिया ने अमरीका को आर्थिक कठिनाइयों से निपटने की सलाह दी है। फ्रांस और जापान ने विश्वास व्यक्त किया है कि अमरीका इस मुश्किल दौर से जल्दी ही बाहर निकल आएगा।

कांग्रेस ने राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों पर सीएजी रिपोर्ट के मुद्दे पर दिल्ली की मुख्यमंत्री श्रीमती शीला दीक्षित का बचाव करते हुए कहा है कि उनसे इस्तीफा नहीं मांगा जाएगा। यूपीए प्रमुख सोनिया गांधी के ऑप्रेशन के लिए विदेश जाने के बाद कल पहली बार पार्टी के शीर्ष नेताओं की प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह की अध्यक्षता में बैठक हुई। बैठक में वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी, रक्षा मंत्री ए के एंटनी, पार्टी महासचिव जनार्दन द्विवेदी और अहमद पटेल मौजूद थे। बैठक के बाद श्री जनार्दन द्विवेदी ने बताया कि श्रीमती दीक्षित के मामले की कर्नाटक के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री बी एस येडियुरप्पा से तुलना नहीं की जा सकती।
उसमें ऐसा कोई। गंभीर आरोप नहीं है जिसके लिए आप बड़े दंड की कल्पना करें। कुछ मदों में ज्यादा खर्च हुआ है यानी कुछ खर्च बचाया जा सकता था। अब यह इतना बड़ा अपराध नहीं है कि जिसको आप यदियुरप्पा से पता नहीं किससे-किससे तुलना करें।

दूसरी तरफ भारतीय जनता पार्टी अध्यक्ष नितिन गडकरी ने आरोप लगाया कि कांग्रेस दिल्ली की मुख्यमंत्री को बचाने का प्रयास कर रही है।
कांग्रेस पार्टी ने लोकायुक्त रिपोर्ट पर मांग की कि यदियुरपा जी ने रिजाइन करना चाहिए बड़े जोर से मांग की और जब शील दीक्षित के ऊपर जो हमारी दिल्ली की मुख्यमंत्री है। उनके ऊपर डायरेक्टली सी ए जी ने अपने फंडिंग में जिस घोटालों के लिए उनको जिम्मेदार पाया है अब कांग्रेस पार्टी उनको बचाने की कोशिश कर रहा है।

ग्रेटर नोएडा के किसानों को उस ज+मीन के लिए ज्यादा मुआवजा मिलेगा जिसका अधिग्रहण ग्रेटर नोएडा विकास प्राधिकरण ने किया था। प्राधिकरण के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी ने संवाददाताओं को बताया कि पतवाड़ी गांव के किसानों के एक समूह के साथ हुए समझौते के बाद अब किसानों को एक हजार चार सौ रुपये प्रति वर्गमीटर की दर से मुआवजा दिया जाएगा। इससे पहले उन्हें पांच सौ ५० से आठ सौ ५० रुपये के बीच मुआवजे का भुगतान किया गया था। उन्होंने बताया कि भूमिहीनों को ४० वर्गमीटर विकसित भूमि दी जाएगी, जबकि किसानों को उनकी अधिग्रहीत ज+मीन का आठ प्रतिशत हिस्सा दिया जाएगा। मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी ने बताया कि प्राधिकरण इस गांव में एक खेल परिसर विकसित करेगा। स्थानीय बच्चों को इस क्षेत्र के स्कूलों और कॉलेजों में दस प्रतिशत आरक्षण दिया जाएगा।

केन्द्र देशभर के महिला स्व-सहायता समूहों को वित्तीय सहायता उपलब्ध कराने के लिए एक विशेष बैंक स्थापित करने पर विचार कर रहा है। केन्द्रीय ग्रामीण विकास मंत्री जयराम रमेश ने कल हैदराबाद में यह बात कही। उन्होंने बताया कि केन्द्र सरकार महिलाओं के स्व-सहायता समूहों को वित्तीय सुविधा उपलब्ध कराने के लिए आंध्र प्रदेश सरकार द्वारा एक विशेष बैंक शुरू करने की योजना में भी सहायता देगी।
श्री रमेश ने कहा कि केन्द्र प्रस्तावित भूमि अधिग्रहण विधेयक पर आम सहमति बनाने की कोशिश कर रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह संवेदनशील विधेयक है, जिसमें विस्थापितों के पुनर्वास का मुद्दा शामिल है। श्री रमेश ने कहा कि ग्रामीण विकास कार्यक्रमों के कार्यान्वयन की, देश में नक्सल विरोधी रणनीति की सफलता में प्रमुख भूमिका होगी। उन्होंने नक्सलवाद से प्रभावित जिलों में भूमि से जुड़े मुद्दों का हल निकालने और जनशक्ति प्रबंधन की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया।

हिमाचल प्रदेश में चंडीगढ़-मनाली राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग पर मलबा हटा दिये जाने के बाद यातायात बहाल हो गया है। यह राजमार्ग कल इस क्षेत्र में बादल फटने की घटना के बाद बंद कर दिया गया था। यातायात फिर शुरू हो जाने से उन सैकड़ों पर्यटकों को राहत मिली है जो कुल्लू और मनाली में फंसे हुए थे।

अफगानिस्तान में नेटो गठबन्धन सेनाओं के मुख्यालय ने कल मैदान वारदक प्रांत में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हुए सीएच-४७ चिनूक हेलीकॉप्टर में सवार ३८ लोगों के मारे जाने की पुष्टि की है। इस बीच, इस दुर्घटना के सही कारणों का पता लगाने के लिए जांच जारी है।

Government says there is no proposal for introducing dual pricing for diesel in the country, which would have made running of diesel cars costlier. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said this while addressing a CII function in New Delhi. He said there is also no proposal to raise duties to make up any shortfall in tax revenues.
The clarification comes two days after Mr. Mukherjee's statement in the Lok Sabha had created the impression that driving diesel cars could become costlier.
Allaying the apprehensions of the corporate sector that economic reforms had come to a halt, Mr. Mukherjee said that the process of economic reforms in the country is irreversible. He said they have no reason to fear introduction of any regressive policy measures.
Mr. Mukherjee asserted that India's growth story is intact and the country will achieve appreciable economic expansion despite negative sentiments across the world. He said Indian markets have the capacity to withstand the negative sentiments affecting the external world. On the downgrading of US credit rating by Standard and Poor's, he said it has an adverse impact but there is no need to press panic button.

Announcing this in Kolkata yesterday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that out of the total sanction, 9 thousand 2 hundred and 40 crore rupees is grant in aid and the amount will be spent for developmental purposes. Miss Banerjee said that the financial assistance will help the Government to tackle the bad economic situation of the state for the time being.

Congress has defended Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on the issue of CAG Report on CWG and said she will not be asked to resign. Party's top brass led by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh yesterday met for the first time after UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi went abroad to undergo a surgery. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister AK Antony, party General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi and Ahmad Patel attended the meeting. After the meeting, Mr Dwivedi said Sheila Dikshit's case cannot be compared with former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa. He said, there are no serious allegations against the Delhi Chief Minister in the CAG report on Commonwealth Games Scam.
There are no serious allegations against her for which one can think strong penalty. There are some expenses that could have been saved but this is not such a serious offence that can be compared with Yaddyurappa and others.

The Centre is planning to set up an exclusive bank to finance women Self Help Groups across the country. This was disclosed by Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh in Hyderabad yesterday. He said, the Centre will also support the Andhra Pradesh government's plan to start an exclusive bank to finance women Self Help Groups.
Mr Ramesh said, the Centre is trying to evolve a consensus on the proposed Land Acquisition Bill. He said, this is a sensitive Bill in which rehabilitation and resettlement of the displaced is also a part. Mr Ramesh said, under the proposed legislation, the land acquisition process will not be completed till the rehabilitation and resettlement package is fully implemented.
Mr Ramesh said, the implementation of rural development programmes will play key role in the success of anti-naxal strategies in the country.
If we do not implement a Rural Development Programme transperantly and effectively, we are not going to be able to control the Naxal situation in many states. If we do not address the land related issues, the allenation of land issues in these areas we are not going to be able to successfully countger Naxalism.

Farmers of Greater Noida will get higher compensation for the land acquired from them by the Greater Noida Authority. Chief Executive Officer of the Authority told reporters that farmers will now get compensation at the rate of 1400 rupees per square meter following an agreement with a group of farmers from Patwari village. Earlier, they were paid 550 to 850 rupees per square meter. He said that landless people will be given 40 square meter developed land, while farmers will be given 8 per cent of the acquired land. He said Greater Noida will develop a sports complex at the village. Local children will be given 10 per cent reservation in the schools and colleges of the area.

The Captain and the chief engineer of the Panama flagged vessel MV RAK CARRIER which sank off the Mumbai coast on Thursday, were arrested yesterday in Mumbai and later released on bail by the local court. Officials stated that some drums and light materials have been found floating in the sea which may cause problems to ships passing through the navigational channel. The Defence authorities have issued navigational warnings to mariners about this. The 225 metre-long vessel, which was on a voyage from Indonesia to Gujarat was carrying 60,000 tonnes of coal about 290 tons of fuel oil and 50 tons of diesel.

In Afghanistan, the NATO coalition headquarters have confirmed the death of 38 persons onboard the CH-47 Chinook helicopter that crashed in Maidan Wardak province yesterday. A press release issued by International Joint Command says 30US soldiers, 7 Afghan commandos and one civilian interpreter were killed in the crash. The press release also says that the incident represents the highest number of US forces killed during a single event in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. More from our correspondent:
There are conflicting reports whether the helicopter crashed during an operation or it was shot down by the Taliban insurgents. While the International Joint Command of the NATO forces has described it a CRASH, the Taliban has claimed that they have shot the helicopter down with a rocket. The truth behind the incident will come out by the ongoing enquiry, but, this is the highest number of the US casualties recorded in a single incident in a decade long war in Afghanistan. China says hundreds of thousands of coastal residents have been evacuated in eastern Zhejiang and Fujian provinces as Typhoon Muifa approaches, but the storm will likely miss the commercial capital Shanghai. The typhoon, packing winds of up to 162 kilometers per hour, was originally expected to make landfall near Shanghai. But China's Central Meteorological Administration now says Muifa is moving northward toward Shandong province and is expected to skim the coast over the next three days. In preparation for Muifa, Chinese authorities have cancelled more than 100 flights in the region and thousands of ships along the eastern coast were called back to shore.

In Uttar Pradesh, five persons were killed in rain-related incidents in different districts. Major rivers including the Ghaghra and Sharda continued to flow above the red mark.
Around 300 villages and a population of around three lakhs have become flood affected in Barabanki, Bahraich, Gonda, Sitapur and Lakhimpur Kheri districts. Rescue and relief work has been speeded up. Relief camps have been established in the affected areas where food items, medicines and fodder for livestock is being provided. Heavy rain is still lashing various eastern districts. Veteran Indian batsman Rahul Dravid has announced his retirement from One-Day and Twenty20 cricket after the England tour. The announcement comes hours after he was named in the Indian squad for the ODI series and one-off T20 International against England yesterday. In a statement at Northampton last night, Dravid said after this one-day series, he will concentrate only on Test cricket. He made it clear that he will honour the commitment to play in the one-off T20 International on August 31 and five-match ODI series starting September 3 but thereafter his career in Twenty20 and one-day internationals should be deemed as over.

खेती की जमीन की उपजाऊ ताकत का पूरा ब्यौरा देने वाले कार्ड देश के सभी किसानों को वर्ष २०१३ तक दे दिये जायेंगे। २०१०-११ तक ४१ करोड़ किसानों को ये कार्ड दिये जा चुके थे। इस कार्ड में किसान की ज+मीन में नमी से लेकर अन्य उर्वरा तत्वों का पूरा विवरण रहता है। इससे उसे अपनी जमीन के अनुसार फसल बोने और भरपूर पैदावार लेने में मदद मिलती है।
कृषि राज्य मंत्री हरीश रावत द्वारा संसद में पिछले सप्ताह दी गई जानकारी के अनुसार उत्तरप्रदेश में सबसे अधिक ८ करोड़, ७० लाख किसानों को यह कार्ड दिये जा चुके हैं। इसके बाद कर्नाटक, आन्ध्रप्रदेश और गुजरात का नम्बर है। तमिलनाडु, राजस्थान, पंजाब और ओडीशा में भी ये कार्ड देने में अच्छी प्रगति हुई है लेकिन बिहार और पश्चिम बंगाल इस काम में पिछड़ रहे हैं। झारखंड में केवल एक लाख, ६० हजार किसानों को ये कार्ड दिये जा सके हैं।

जम्मू कश्मीर में सुरक्षाबलों ने आतंकवादी संगठन लश्करे तैयबा के कथित डिवीजनल कमाण्डर को मार गिराया है। ये मुठभेड पुंछ जिले के सुरणकोट इलाके में हुई। सरकारी सूत्रों के अनुसार एक निश्चित सुराग मिलने पर सुरक्षाबलों ने इस आतंकवादी के खिलाफ डोबाढोक के जंगलों में कार्रवाई शुरू की। वहां छिपे हुए आतंकवादियों ने सुरक्षाबलों पर गोली चलाई। सुरक्षाबलों ने भी जवाबी कार्रवाई की। लगभग एक घंटे चली मुठभेड में दो आतंकवादियों को ढेर कर दिया गया। पुंछ के एसएसपी अशकूर वानी ने बताया है कि एक आतंकवादी का शव मिल गया है। इसकी पहचान अबु उस्मान उर्फ अदनान के रूप में हुई है। पाकिस्तान का नागरिक अदनान पुंछ जिले में पिछले पांच छह साल से सक्रिय था। दूसरे आतंकवादी का शव ढूंढा जा रहा है।

योजना आयोग के उपाध्यक्ष मोंटेक सिंह आहलूवालिया ने कहा है कि टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम के आवंटन में अनियमितताओं के लिए प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय को जिम्मेदार नहीं ठहराया जा सकता। एक टी० वी० कार्यक्रम में उन्होंने कहा कि उनके विचार में प्रधानमंत्री, अपने किसी सहयोगी की हर कार्यवाही पर निगरानी रखने वाले एक सुपर मिनिस्टर नहीं हो सकते। श्री आहलूवालिया से पूछा गया था कि क्या पूर्व संचार मंत्री ए० राजा ने वर्ष २००७-०८ में टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम और लाइसेंस देते समय सावधान और पारदर्शी रहने की प्रधानमंत्री की सलाह का पालन किया। श्री आहलूवालिया ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री को इस बात का आश्वासन दिया गया कि सभी नीतियों का पालन किया जा रहा है और अगर कहीं कोई अन्य कार्यवाही की जा रही है तो उस पर सॉलिसिटर जनरल की सहमति है।
उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसे माहौल में अगर कोई मंत्रालय कुछ गलत या अनुचित करता है तो प्रभावित व्यक्ति यह मामला अदालत तक ले जाते हैं। उनका विचार था कि विभिन्न मंत्रालय सरकार का कामकाज चलाने के लिए जिम्मेदार हैं, और हर बात के लिए केवल प्रधानमंत्री को जिम्मेदार नहीं ठहराया जा सकता।

वित्त मंत्री ने कहा है कि प्रत्यक्ष कर संहिता को अगले साल पहली अप्रैल से लागू करने में कोई मुश्किल नहीं होगी। श्री मुखर्जी ने आशा व्यक्त की कि संसद की स्थायी समिति इस बारे में अपनी रिपोर्ट संसद के शीतकालीन अधिवेशन तक प्रस्तुत कर देगी। नई दिल्ली में एक समारोह में वित्त मंत्री ने कहा कि चूंकि अभी यह विधेयक स्थायी समिति के विचाराधीन है, सभी सम्बद्ध पक्ष इस पर अपने सुझाव दे सकते हैं।
प्रत्यक्ष कर संहिता विधेयक पिछले वर्ष संसद में प्रस्तुत किया गया था। यह ५० साल पुराने आयकर कानून का स्थान लेगा।
वस्तु और सेवा कर को लागू करने के बारे में श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि इस बारे में विभिन्न विचारों को संसद में प्रस्तुत करने की कोशिश की जा रही है। उन्होंने आशा व्यक्त की कि इस कानून पर संसद के दोनों सदनों की मंजूरी हासिल करने में विपक्ष अपना पूरा समर्थन देगा।

प्रधानमंत्री की आर्थिक सलाहकार परिषद के अध्यक्ष सी० रंगराजन ने कहा है कि अमरीका की क्रेडिट रेटिंग कम किये जाने के बावजूद भारत की आर्थिक विकास दर आठ दशमलव दो प्रतिशत बनी रहेगी। लेकिन इसका विपरीत असर निर्यात तथा भारत आने वाले पूंजी प्रवाह पर पड़ेगा। श्री रंगराजन ने पी टी आई से बातचीत में कहा कि अमरीका की रेटिंग कम होने की बजाय उसकी हालत ठीक होने की धीमी रफ्तार का ज्यादा असर भारत और बाकी दुनिया पर पड़ेगा। व्यापार और पूंजी प्रवाह पर भी इसका असर पड़ सकता है। श्री रंगराजन का कहना था कि अमरीका और यूरोपीय देशों के धीमे विकास का कुछ विपरीत असर भारत के निर्यात पर पड़ेगा।

राष्ट्रपति श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने कहा है कि लोगों के जीवन को बेहतर करना और समाज को अधिक सभ्य बनाना, कानून की पढ़ाई का अन्तिम उद्देश्य है। श्रीमती पाटील आज बंगलौर में नेशनल लॉ यूनिवर्सिटी के १९ वें वार्षिक दीक्षान्त समारोह में बोल रही थी। उन्होंने कहा कि कानूनी सेवाओं की बढ़ती हुई लागत के मसले का कोई समाधान ढूंढा जाना चाहिए। राष्ट्रपति ने इस बात पर भी बल दिया कि कानून के पेशे में जीवन के नैतिक मूल्यों के महत्व को कभी कम नहीं किया जाना चाहिए।

नियंत्रक और महालेखा परीक्षक-कैग ने एयर इंडिया प्रबन्धन की दूरदर्शिता की कमी की आलोचना करते हुए कहा है कि नये विमान खरीदने के फैसले से दो सौ करोड़ रूपये का नुकसान हुआ है। कैग ने एयर इंडिया पर अपनी रिपोर्ट में कहा है कि कम्पनी की विस्तार योजनाएं बुद्धिमता पर आधारित नहीं थी। कैग का कहना है कि नये विमान दो चरणों में खरीदे जाने चाहिए थे।
एयर इंडिया ने कैग की इस बात को खारिज कर दिया है कि दोषपूर्ण अनुबंधों के कारण कम्पनी को नुकसान हुआ। एयरइंडिया का कहना है कि यात्रियों की बढ़ती हुई मांग को पूरा करने के लिए नये विमान खरीदने की सोची गई। सरकार ने भी बोइंग से ५० विमान खरीदने के फैसले को सही ठहराते हुए कहा है कि इससे बड़ी भारी रियायतें मिली। आर्थिक मामलों की मंत्रिमंडल समिति ने हाल ही में एयर इंडिया के लिए १२ सौ ंकरोड़ रूपये की पूंजी दी है। इस समय एयरइंडिया पर ४० हजार करोड़ रूपये का कर्ज है। पिछले वित्त वर्ष में कम्पनी को सात हजार करोड़ रूपये का नुकसान हुआ था।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने फैसला दिया है कि दूरसंचार कम्पनियों को सिम कार्ड की बिक्री पर सेवा कर देना होगा। इस बारे में केरल उच्च न्यायालय के फैसले का अनुमोदन करते हुए न्यायमूर्ति मुकुन्दकम शर्मा और न्यायमूर्ति ए० आर० दवे की पीठ ने कहा कि सिम कार्ड की कीमत, टेलीफोन कनेक्शन चालू करने के लिए दूरसंचार कम्पनी द्वारा ली जाने वाली फीस का ही एक हिस्सा है इसलिए दूरसंचार कम्पनियों को सेवा कर का भुगतान करना होगा।

मणिपुर में दो राष्ट्रीय राजमार्गों पर आर्थिक नाकेबंदी के कारण जनजीवन अस्त व्यस्त हो गया है। सदर हिल्स डिस्ट्रिक्ट डिमांड कमेटी सदर हिल्स को इस महीने की पहली तारीख से राजस्व जिले का दर्जा देने की मांग को लेकर नाकेबंदी कर रही है। नाकेबंदी के दौरान सेनापति जिले में नौ सरकारी भवनों को आग लगा दी गई। कमेटी ने ऐलान किया है कि आज समाप्त होने वाली आर्थिक नाकेबंदी ३१ अगस्त तक बढ़ा दी गई है।

असम सरकार ने बोंगईगांव जिले की एक हजार एकड़ जमीन पर कोको, नारियल और काली मिर्च की खेती कराने की योजना शुरू की है। महात्मा गांधी राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण रोजगार गारंटी कानून के तहत इस परियोजना के जरिये लगभग एक हजार परिवारों को कोको की खेती से जोड़ने का लक्ष्य रखा गया है।
उत्तर पूर्व में पहली बार सरकार की पहल के तहत कोको की खेती किया गया है। बोंगाईगांव के उपायुक्त ने कहा कि इसका उद्देश्य महात्मा गांधी राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण योजना रोजगार गांरटी अधिनियम के तहत काम दिलाना नहीं है, बल्कि यह भी सुनिश्चित करना है कि निर्यात के माध्यम से अच्छे परिवारों को अच्छा भुगतान मिले। कोको और नारियल के बीच रोपण शुरू हो चुका है। काली मिर्च, असम नींबू और केले का पेड़ बाद में बोया जाएगा। उम्मीद है कि इस खेती से जुड़े हर परिवार को इससे फायदा मिलेगा। मानस शर्मा, आकाशवाणी समाचार, गुवाहाटी।

अफगानिस्तान के वारदाक सूबे में कल हुई हेलीकॉप्टर दुर्घटना की जांच शुरू कर दी गई है। इस दुर्घटना में अमरीकी सेना के तीस जवान मारे गये थे। अफगानिस्तान के सात सैनिक और एक दुभाषिया भी मारा गया। मृतकों में नेवी सील्स के वे कमान्डो भी शामिल थे जिन्होंने ओसामा बिन लादेन को मार गिराने के आपरेशन में हिस्सा लिया था। ये हेलीकॉप्टर तालिबान के खिलाफ एक कार्रवाई में शामिल था। अफगानिस्तान में पिछले लगभग १० साल से चल रहे संघर्ष के दौरान, किसी कार्रवाई में मारे जाने वाले अमरीकी सैनिकों की यह सबसे बड़ी संख्या है।

चीन में मुईफा तूफान की आशंका में आज शंघाई हवाई अड्डे ने अपनी सभी उड़+ानें रद्द कर दी हैं। विध्वंसक मुईफा के शंघाई के नजदीक पूर्वी समुद्री तटों से होकर गुजरने के पूर्वानुमान को देखते हुए लगभग पांच लाख लोगों को वहां से सुरक्षित जगहों पर ले जाया गया है। राष्ट्रीय मौसम विज्ञान केन्द्र ने आज बताया कि मुईफा ने समुद्र में ही अपनी दिशा बदल दी है।

The government aims at providing soil health card to every farmer in the country by 2013. According to official data, over 41 crore farmers were issued soil health cards in the country till 2010-11. The data presented by Minister of State for Agriculture Harish Rawat in Parliament last week indicated that Uttar Pradesh with 8.7 crore soil health cards tops the list. Karnataka is second with 5.7 crore followed by Andhra Pradesh with 3.8 crore and Gujarat 3.2 crore cards. Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan,Punjab and Orissa have also shown good performance. But major eastern states ofBihar and West Bengal are lagging behind so far. Jharkhand also does not have encouraging results as only 1.6 lakh farmers have received the cards there during the period. The soil health card evaluates the health or quality of a soil as a function of its characteristics, water, plant and other biological properties. The card is a tool to help the farmer to monitor and improve soil health based on their own field experience and working knowledge of their soils.

In Jammu and Kashmir, security forces today achieved a major success by killing a dreaded terrorist and self-styled divisional commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba during an encounter in the border district of Poonch. Our Correspondent reports that the slain ultra has been identified as Abu Usman, a Pakistani national who was active in the Poonch district for the last 5-6 years.
After receiving specific information about the presence of some top militants of LeT, troops of Army and Police launched a search operation in Marhote area of Doban Gali in Surankote tehsil of this border district late last night. The Comptroller and Auditor General has criticized the AIR INDIA management for a lack of foresight and said the decision to buy new aircraft caused a loss of 200 crore rupees. In a report on Air India the CAG alleged that the expansion plans of the national carrier were not based on due diligence, and that the new aircraft should have been bought in two phases. Air India has rejected the CAG's contention that 'defective contracts' led to losses, saying the new aircraft were intended to meet the increased demand. The government has also defended its decision to buy 50 aircraft from Boeing saying this led to huge bulk discounts. Recently, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a fresh equity infusion of 1200 crore rupees. Currently, the airline is laden with a cumulative debt of 40,000 crore rupees and as short-term loans to maintain its operations and posted losses of around 7,000 crore rupees for the last fiscal.

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia says, the Prime Minister's Office, PMO, cannot be held responsible for the irregularities in the 2G spectrum allocation. Speaking at a TV programme, he said, he does not think that the Prime Minister should be behaving as the Super Minister, supervising everything that his colleague does. He said this in response to a question whether former Telecom Minister A Raja followed the Prime Minister's advice to be cautious and transparent while giving licences and 2G spectrum in 2007-2008. Mr. Ahluwalia clarified that the PM had been assured that policies were being followed and deviations, if any, had the approval of the Solicitor General. He was of the view that various Ministries were responsible for carrying out the affairs of the government and the Prime Minister alone cannot be held responsible for everything.

The Union Finance Minister has said that there would be no difficulty to bring Direct Taxes Code, DTC, into operation from the 1st of April next year. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee expressed hope that the Parliamentary Standing Committee will submit its report by the Winter Session of Parliament. Speaking at a function in New Delhi, the Minister said, since the Bill is still with the Standing Committee, he stakeholders have time to give their views. The Direct Taxes Code Bill, which was introduced in Parliament last year, proposes to replace the 50-year old Income Tax Act. On implementation of the new indirect tax regime, Goods and Service Tax, GST, Mr. Mukherjee said, efforts are on to bring in convergence of views in Parliament.

The Supreme Court has held that telecom operators will have to pay service tax on the sale of SIM cards. Upholding the judgement of the Kerala High Court, a Bench of Justices Mukundakam Sharma and A R Dave said, the sale of SIM cards is part of the activation and processing fee, on which the telecom firms pay service tax. The Bench observed that payments made by subscribers to procure SIM cards are generally processing charges for activating cell phone services and consequently it would necessarily be included in the value of the SIM Card.

Oil has started leaking from the sunken vessel MV Rak Carrier since last night. The cargo carrier had sunk off the Mumbai coast on Thursday. The Mumbai Police have evacuated many people from the Juhu beach and BMC workers have also been deployed to monitor the situation. The oil spill from MV Rak, poses serious environmental threats to an estimated 100 Kilometres of Mumbai’s coastline. According to a press release issued by the Mumbai Coast Guard, following the oil spill, the Coast Guard ship Samudra Prahari immediately used oil spill dispersant to neutralize the spilled oil. State authorities have also been advised to direct fishermen to refrain from fishing in the vicinity of affected area.

Operations at Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, were affected for almost four hours due to disruption in power supply. It lead to delay of over 40 flights early this morning. Official sources said, the Terminal remained in virtual darkness between 1.25 AM to 5.45 AM, leading to the delay in schedules of most international flights arriving and departing from the IGI Airport. In Afghanistan, a probe has been launched by the International Security Assistance Force, ISAF, to determine the exact cause of the chopper crash which killed 30 American soldiers, including Navy SEALs from the broader unit that killed Osama bin Laden. Besides, five more US soldiers, seven Afghan troops and an interpreter died in the crash of the helicopter during an anti-Taliban operation. This is the biggest single loss for American troops in the decade-long war. The Afghan Taliban claimed that its militants shot down the helicopter in Wardak province of Afghanistan.

In China, Shanghai's airports cancelled most of their flights today as authorities braced for Typhoon Muifa. Almost 500,000 people were evacuated as the powerful typhoon was previously forecast to hit the eastern coast near Shanghai over the weekend. The national meteorological centre however said that the Muifa changed course while at sea, packing winds of 178 kilometres an hour. It said, the temperamental storm, which has already changed speed and direction several times, is now due either to make landfall in the eastern province of Shandongtomorrow morning or to keep moving north along the coast. The two airports inShanghai halted the majority of flights today, following the cancellation of more than 200 flights the previous day, which affected nearly 30,000 passengers. Meanwhile, the eastern provinces of Jiangsu and Shandong were bracing for the impact of the storm, evacuating tens of thousands of people and ordering more than 11,000 boats back to shore. Authorities have warned that the typhoon could affect even wider area than initially predicted, if it continues to hug the eastern coast and makes landfall further north.

The traffic on Pathankot-Mandi National Highway has come to a virtual halt since the wee hours today due to heavy landslides at more than five places between Mandi and Joginder Nagar. Our Correspondent reports that hundreds of vehicles are stranded at different places on a 55 kilometres stretch.

कांग्रेस ने डाक्टर मुरली मनोहर जोशी पर लोकलेखा समिति की विवादास्पद रिपोर्ट को दोबारा जारी करने का आरोप लगाया। डाक्टर जोशी टू-जी घोटाले की जांच कर रही लोकलेखा समिति के अध्यक्ष हैं। पार्टी प्रवक्ता अभिषेक मनु सिंघवी ने आज नई दिल्ली में कहा कि इससे पता लगता है कि समिति का रवैया पक्षपातपूर्ण है। भाजपा ने इस कदम का समर्थन किया है और कहा है कि इसमें कुछ भी गलत नहीं है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता एस एस आहलूवालिया ने कहा है कि अभी तक रिपोर्ट को स्वीकृति नहीं दी गई है। लोकसभा अध्यक्ष मीरा कुमार ने ये कहते हुए रिपोर्ट डाक्टर जोशी को वापिस कर दी थी कि इसे पूरी समिति का समर्थन प्राप्त नहीं है।
डाक्टर जोशी ने कल रिपोर्ट समिति के अध्यक्षों को एक पत्र के साथ भेजी थी जिसमें कहा गया था कि कानूनी विशेषज्ञों से विचार-विमर्श के बाद वे रिपोर्ट का मसौदा भेज रहे हैं।

सरकार ने देश में काले धन का पता लगाने और कर चोरी रोकने के प्रयास तेज कर दिये हैं। इन प्रयासों में कर रिटर्न की जांच सर्वेक्षण, जुर्माना लगाना और कुछ मामलों में मुकदमा चलाना शामिल है। सरकारी सूत्रों ने बताया कि करदाताओं के बारे में सूचना इकट्ठी करने, उसका मिलान करने और उसे जारी करने के बारे में सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी की सहायता भी ली जा रही है। आयकर विभाग ने विभिन्न स्रोतों से प्राप्त सूचना का इलैक्ट्रॉनिक मशीनों की सहायता से मिलान करने के लिये एक समेकित करदाता आंकड़ा प्रबंधन प्रणाली भी कायम की है। सूत्रों ने बताया कि विभिन्न बैंकों और वित्तीय संस्थानों से संदिग्ध लेन-देन के बारे में सूचना राजस्व विभाग के तहत वित्तीय खुफिया एकांश में प्राप्त की जाती है। विभाग द्वारा इस सूचना की अच्छी तरह जांच-पड़ताल की जाती है। इसके अलावा राजस्व विभाग ने विदेशी कंपनियों और प्रवासी भारतीयों के मामलों की जांच और आंकलन करने के लिये दो विशेष खंड बनाये हैं।

योजना आयोग के उपाध्यक्ष मोंटेक सिंह आहलूवालिया ने कहा है कि टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम के आवंटन में अनियमितताओं के लिए प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय को जिम्मेदार नहीं ठहराया जा सकता। एक टी0 वी0 कार्यक्रम में उन्होंने कहा कि उनके विचार में प्रधानमंत्री, अपने किसी सहयोगी की हर कार्यवाही पर निगरानी रखने वाला एक सुपर मिनिस्टर नहीं हो सकता। श्री आहलूवालिया से पूछा गया कि क्या पूर्व संचार मंत्री ए0 राजा ने वर्ष 2007-08 में टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम और लाइसेंस देते समय सावधान और पारदर्शी रहने की प्रधानमंत्री की सलाह का पालन किया। श्री आहलूवालिया ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री को इस बात का आश्वासन दिया गया कि सभी नीतियों का पालन किया जा रहा है और अगर कहीं कोई अन्य कार्यवाही की जा रही है तो उस पर सॉलिसिटर जनरल की सहमति है।
उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसे माहौल में अगर कोई मंत्रालय कुछ गलत या अनुचित करता है तो प्रभावित व्यक्ति यह मामला अदालत तक ले जाते हैं।

वित्त मंत्री ने कहा है कि प्रत्यक्ष कर संहिता को अगले साल पहली अप्रैल से लागू करने में कोई मुश्किल नहीं होगी। श्री मुखर्जी ने आशा व्यक्त की कि संसद की स्थायी समिति इस बारे में अपनी रिपोर्ट संसद के शीतकालीन अधिवेशन तक प्रस्तुत कर देगी। नई दिल्ली में एक समारोह में वित्त मंत्री ने कहा कि चूंकि अभी यह विधेयक स्थायी समिति के विचाराधीन है, सभी सम्बद्ध पक्ष इस पर अपने सुझाव दे सकते हैं।

केन्द्र द्वारा हर किसान को खेती की जमीन की उर्वरा शक्ति का ब्यौरा देने वाले कार्ड देने का महत्वाकांक्षी कार्यक्रम संतोषजनक ढ़ंग से चल रहा है। ये कार्ड किसानों को वर्ष 2013 तक दे दिए जाएंगे। सरकारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार अब तक देश में 41 करोड़ किसानों को खेती की जमीन की उर्वरा शक्ति का ब्यौरा देने वाले कार्ड जारी किए जा चुके हैं। कृषि राज्यमंत्री हरीश रावत द्वारा पिछले सप्ताह संसद में पेश किये गये आंकड़ों के अनुसार उत्तर प्रदेश में आठ करोड़ 70 लाख किसानों को ऐसे कार्ड दिए जा चुके हैं और इस राज्य का स्थान सबसे ऊपर है।

सीरिया में सरकारी सेनाओं द्वारा दो शहरों में किए गए हमले में पचास से ज्यादा लोग मारे गए हैं। विपक्षी कार्यकर्ताओं ने कहा कि उनमें से 38 लोग उस समय मारे गए, जब देश के उत्तर-पूर्व में डेर-अल-ज+ौर शहर में सैनिकों ने हमला किया। विपक्षी कार्यकर्ताओं ने बताया कि सभी अस्पताल बंद होने के कारण हमले में घायल लोगों का इलाज खुले मैदान में अस्थायी रूप से बनाए गए स्वास्थ्य केंद्रों और मस्जिदों में किया जा रहा है। कब्रिस्तान तक पहुंचना मुश्किल होने के कारण मारे गए कई लोगों को एक सार्वजनिक पार्क में दफन करना पड़ा है।
सेना ने मध्य प्रांत होम्स पर भी हमला किया, जहां कम से कम चार लोग मारे गए।

चीन में दो लाख से ज्यादा लोगों को पूर्वी तट से हटा दिया गया है क्योंकि इस इलाके में सबसे ताकतवर तूफान का खतरा मण्डरा रहा है। अधिकारियों के अनुसार सात हजार से ज्यादा मछली पकड़ने वाली नौकाओं को बंदरगाह पर लंगर डालने को कहा गया है क्योंकि तूफान मुइफा की वजह से 162 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटे के रतार से हवाएं चल रही हैं और समुद्र में 36 फीट ऊंची लहरें उठ रही हैं। तूफान की वजह से 140 उड़ानें रद्द कर दी गई और रेल सेवा पर भी असर पड़ा है।
तूफान मुइफा रविवार को शंघाई के पास से होकर गुजरा है जिसकी वजह से तेज हवाएं चल रही हैं और मूसलाधार बारिश हो रही हैं। मौसम वैज्ञानिकों का कहना है कि शानदोंग प्रांत के किंगदाओ शहर में सोमवार की सुबह तक यह तूफान पहुंच सकता है।

मुम्बई तट पर बृहस्पतिवार को डूबे मालवाहक एमवी रॉक जहाज से तेल रिसाव का खतरा आज साफ दिखाई देने लगा। तट रक्षक दल के अनुसार तेल का रिसाव जहाज के डूबने के स्थान पर देखा गया है। यह रिसाव डेढ़ से दो टन प्रति घंटा है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि कल रात तेल को मुम्बई के निकट अरब सागर में तैरते देखा गया।
एम.वी. रेक जहाज से हो रहे तेल रिसाव से मुंबई तट पर प्रदूषण का खतरा बढ़ गया है। आज सुबह से जुहू, वरसोवा और गोराई समुद्र तट पर तेल की परते दिखाई दी। इन जगहों पर कुछ समुद्री जीव मृत अवस्था में भी पाये गये। इसी बीच महाराष्ट्र प्रदूषण नियंत्रण बोर्ड ने आज 7 से 8 जगहों से पानी के नमूने लिए हैं जिन्हें परीक्षण के लिए भेजा गया है। स्थिति की गंभीरता को देखते हुए तटरक्षक दल ने पर्यावरण सुरक्षा अभियान शुरू किया है। सम्रुद पहरी और आईसीएस सकल्प ये दो जहाज इस अभियान में जुट गये हैं।उमेश उजगरे आकाशवाणी समाचार मुम्बई

उत्तराखंड में भारी वर्षा से चट्टाने खिसकने के कारण कई जगहों पर राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग बाधित हो गया हैं। खबरों के अनुसार उत्तरकाशी जिले में सेंज के पास आज करीब सत्तर मीटर सड़क पानी में बह गई। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि सड़क मार्ग बाधित होने से कई तीर्थयात्री फंसे हुए हैं।

राष्ट्रमंडलों खेलों के दौरान अनियमितताओं के आरोपों का जवाब देने के लिए दिल्ली सरकार ने सभी विभागों से अपना स्पष्टीकरण तैयार करने को कहा है। सी ए जी रिपोर्ट में दिल्ली सरकार पर ये आरोप लगाए गए हैं। सरकारी प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि नियंत्रक और महालेखा परीक्षक ने जिन विभागों की परियोजनाओं पर गड़बड़ी का अरोप लगाया है। उन सभी विभागों को कहा गया है कि वे इन परियोजनाओं की पूरी जानकारी खर्च का ब्यौरा सहित तैयार रखें ताकि सी ए जी रिपोर्ट का स्पष्टीकरण तुरंत दिया जा सके।

राजीव गांधी ग्रामीण विद्युतीकरण योजना के तहत, गरीबी की रेखा के नीचे जीवन यापन करने वाले एक सौ सड़सठ लाख परिवारों को 15 जुलाई तक मुफ्त बिजली कनेक्शन दिए गए हैं। योजना के तहत देशभर में 98 लाख गांवों को मुफ्त बिजली दी गई है। सरकारी सूत्रों ने बताया कि सरकार ने देश में इस योजना को प्रभावी तरीके से लागू करने के लिए कई प्रभावी कदम उठाए हैं। इनमें योजना की प्रगति पर नजर रखने के लिए अंतर-मंत्रालय निगरानी समिति का गठन और राज्यों से जिला स्तर पर इसकी निगरानी करने जैसे उपाय शामिल हैं। बी पी एल परिवारों को मुफ्त बिजली कनेक्शन देने के लिए चालू पंचवर्षीय योजना में अनुदान राशि डेढ़ हजार रूपये से बढ़ाकर दो हजार दो सौ रूपये कर दी गई है।

The Congress today charged Public Accounts Committee, PAC, Chairman Dr Murli Manohar Joshi with re-circulating the controversial report on the 2G scam. The party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said in New Delhi it amounted to making the committee partisan and motivated. Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam said that the PAC Chairman is not maintaining decorum and should be replaced.
Without circulating the opinion of the experts, our chairman has started circulating the same report which deserve to be thrown in the garbage. So my point is that Mr. Chairman is not at all maintaining decorum and he is basically playing politics, that's why I am demanding form BJP that to protect the dignity of PAC Mr. Chairman should be replaced and some body else should come.
However, The BJP, supported the move. Dr Joshi yesterday circulated the report to the PAC members with a forwarding letter that he is sending them the draft report again after consulting legal experts.

The Government steps up efforts to unearth black money in the country and prevent tax evasion. This includes scrutiny of tax returns, surveys, imposition of penalty and launching of prosecution in appropriate cases. Official sources said, Information Technology is also being used in collection, collation and dissemination of taxpayer information. The Income Tax Department has also set up an Integrated Taxpayer Data Management System to electronically collate Information collected from various sources. The sources said that Information is received from Financial Intelligence Unit under the Department of Revenue regarding suspicious transactions from various banks and financial institutions. This information is thoroughly being investigated by the Department. Besides, the Department has set up two specialized wings to investigate and assess the cases of foreign companies, expatriates and non-residents indians.

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia says, the Prime Minister's Office cannot be held responsible for the irregularities in the 2G spectrum allocation. Speaking at a TV programme, he said, he does not think that the Prime Minister should be behaving as the Super Minister, supervising everything that his colleague does. He said this in response to a question on whether former Telecom Minister A Raja followed the Prime Minister's advice to be cautious and transparent while giving licences and 2G spectrum in 2007-2008. Mr. Ahluwalia clarified that the PM had been assured that policies were being followed and deviations, if any, had the approval of the Solicitor General.

The Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council Chairman C Rangarajan has said that despite downgrading of US sovereign rating, India's overall economic growth will remain at 8.2 per cent. However it will negatively impact exports and have moderate impact on capital flows into the country. Speaking to PTI Mr. Rangarajan said more than the downgrade what will be the impact for India and the rest of the world, will be the slow pace of recovery of the US. It will have an implication on trade and capital flow. Mr. Rangarajan added that slow growth of the US and Europe will have some adverse affect on Indian exports.

In Jammu and Kashmir security forces today achieved a major success by killing a top ranking militant and divisional commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) during an encounter in the border district of Poonch. The slain militant has been identified as Abu Usman, a Pakistani national who was active in the Poonch district for the last 5-6 years.

Six people have been killed in Madhya Pradesh after heavy rains.
Most parts of the state received considerable rainfall during the last 24 hours. Rivers and streams are in spate at several places. In Jabalpur , nineteen gates of Bargi dam were opened today. In two separate incidents, six people were washed away in Mandla and Sheopur. An oil leak was today reported from the Panama-flagged cargo vessel MV Rak which sank off the city coast earlier this week due to ingress of water in the cargo hull. Opposition activists in Syria say government forces have attacked two towns, killing more than 50 people. They say 38 of them died when soldiers stormed the city of Deir al-Zour in the north-east of the country. The attack on Deir al-Zour started at first light with tanks bombarding parts of the city before moving in with troops under the cover of heavy gun fire. Activists said as all hospitals have been closed the wounded were being treated at field clinics set up in mosques and several of those killed have been buried in a public park as it was not possible to get to the cemetery.

Iraqi officials say six people have been killed in a bomb attack on a house in the city of Scandaria, 50 kilometers south of Baghdad. In Afghanistan, a probe has been launched by International Security Assistant Force, to determine the exact cause of the chopper crash which killed 30 American soldiers, including Navy SEALs from the broader unit that killed Osama bin Laden. Besides, five more US soldiers, seven Afghan troops and an interpreter died in the crash of the helicopter during an anti-Taliban operation. This is the biggest single loss for American troops in the decade-long war. The Afghan Taliban claimed that its militants shot down the helicopter in Wardak province of Afghanistan.
