श्री जगदीश शेट्टर, कर्नाटक के नए मुख्यमंत्री होंगे। भारतीय जनता पार्टी के अध्यक्ष नितिन गडकरी ने कल नई दिल्ली में यह घोषणा की। उन्होंने बताया कि श्री सदानंद गौड़ा ने पार्टी को इस्तीफा सौंप दिया है, जिसे उन्होंने मंजूर कर लिया है।श्री गडकरी ने बताया कि राज्य की राजनीतिक स्थिति पर विचार के लिए शनिवार को पार्टी की कोर समिति की बैठक हुई थी। उन्होंने बताया कि पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता राजनाथ सिंह और अरुण जेटली आज बंगलौर जाएंगे। उनकी देखरेख में पार्टी विधायक मुख्यमंत्री पद के लिए श्री शेट्टर का विधिवत चुनाव करेंगे। श्री सदानंद गौडा ने कहा है कि वे केंद्रीय नेतृत्व के फैसले को स्वीकार करते हैं।हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि राज्य में ग्यारह महीनों के दौरान नेतृत्व में यह तीसरा परिवर्तन है।.....................................

अफगानिस्तान के दक्षिणी और पूर्वी प्रांतों में कल विद्रोहियों के हमलों में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सेना के सात सैनिक मारे गये। नैटो के नेतृत्व वाली अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सेना के मुख्यालय की ओर से कल देर रात जारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार ६ सैनिक पूर्वी अफगानिस्तान में देसी बम के विस्फोट में मारे गये. इसी तरह की एक अन्य घटना में एक अन्य नैटो सैनिक मारा गया। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सेना अपनी नीति के अनुसार मृत सैनिकों की च्चिनाख्त हो जाने तक घटना का ब्यौरा और उनकी राष्ट्रीयता नहीं बताती।इसके अलावा अफगानिस्तान के दक्षिणी कंधार प्रांत में एक ही स्थान पर सड़क पर छिपा कर रखे गये बमों और बारूदी सुरंगों के विस्फोट की अलग-अलग घटनाओं में १८ से ज्यादा अफगान नागरिक भी मारे गये।....................................

Jagdish Shettar will be the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. Announcing this in New Delhi yesterday, BJP President Nitin Gadkari said, that Sadanand Gowda has submitted his resignation to the party and he has accepted it. Gadkari said that a meeting of the Party's core committee was held on Saturday to discuss the political situation in the State. Meanwhile, Sadanand Gowda said that he has accepted the decision of the central leadership. Our correspondent reports that this marks the third change of leadership in the State in 11 months.

The BJP sources say that the Legislature Party meet will be held tomorrow to formally elect Jagadish Shettar as its new leader. It is said that a one-line resolution will be passed at the Legislative Party meet declaring Jagadish Shettar as its new leader. Shettar is expected to accompany Gowda along with a copy of the resolution of the Legislative Party meet and officially stake claim to form the government. Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia has said that quarterly targets for the progress of development works have been fixed for the first time for various ministries and that the projects will be monitored at three levels, including the PMO. Talking to reporters in Ludhiana yesterday, Mr. Ahluwalia said that targets have been fixed, especially in the areas of transport, energy and infrastructure. He said there would be three phases to monitor the progress of development projects - at the Planning Commission level, at the ministry level and with overall monitoring in the PMO. He also asserted that several effective steps are being taken to improve the economy which is in some difficulties.

The monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislature begins in Mumbai today. The major donors also pledged 16 billion US dollar in aid to the war-torn country to prevent it from sliding back into turmoil after the foreign forces leave in 2014. India has said that normalisation of bilateral ties with Pakistan can only occur in an atmosphere free from terror. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, who held a 30-minute meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar in Tokyo yesterday underlined the importance of taking action to bring the perpetrators of 26/11 to justice, maintaining that New Delhi has given additional concrete evidence against those involved. In Nigeria, at least 115 people, including a federal senator and a state parliamentarian, have been killed in the last two days, with herdsmen from the Fulani tribe raiding Christian villages near the conflict-prone city of Jos. Those killed yesterday were attending the funeral of 63 other people killed earlier on Saturday in Karkuruk village in Barakin Ladi local government area when the assailants returned to kill more people with guns and machetes.

श्री चिदम्बरम ने प्रधानमंत्री के काम-काज की भारतीय जनता पार्टी की आलोचना को अनुचित बताया। श्री चिदम्बरम ने कहा कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेताओं को पत्रिकाओं के आलेखों को ज्यादा तूल नहीं देना चाहिए। गृह मंत्री, टाइम पत्रिका में प्रकाशित एक लेख में प्रधानमंत्री के बारे में की गई टिप्पणी को लेकर भाजपा प्रवक्ता रविशंकर प्रसाद +द्वारा की गई आलोचना का जवाब दे रहे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि इस पत्रिका ने यूपीए की पिछली सरकार की शानदार उपलब्धियों का भी उल्लेख किया है। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि इसी पत्रिका में पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी की भी आलोचना की गई थी। श्री रविशंकर प्रसाद ने इस आलेख के प्रकाशित होने के बाद प्रधानमंत्री के इस्तीफे की मांग की थी।

बंबई उच्च न्यायालय ने बेस्ट बेकरी मामले में पांच अभियुक्तों को सबूत के अभाव में बरी कर दिया, जबकि निचली अदालत द्वारा चार अन्य लोगों को दी गई आजीवन कारावास की सजा को बरकरार रखा है। न्यायमूर्ति वी. एम. कनाड़े और न्यायमूर्ति पी. डी. कोडे+ की खंडपीठ ने निचली अदालत के फैसले के खिलाफ अभियुक्तों की अपील की सुनवाई के बाद तीन जुलाई को अपना फैसला सुरक्षित रख लिया था। अदालत ने संजय ठक्कर, बहादुर सिंह चौहान, सनाभाई बारिया और दिनेश राजभर की आजीवन कारावास की सजा को बरकरार रखा है। उच्च न्यायालय में मार्च से इस मामले की रोजाना सुनवाई हो रही थी।मुम्बई की एक विशेष अदालत ने इस मामले के १७ आरोपियों में से नौ को दोषी ठहराते हुए उन्हें आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई थी। इन्हीं लोगों ने उच्च न्यायालय के आदेश के खिलाफ अपील की थी।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने गुजरात सरकार से २००२ के दंगों के दौरान नष्ट और क्षतिग्रस्त हुए धर्मस्थलों का पूरा ब्यौरा देने को कहा है। न्यायमूर्ति के. एस. राधाकृष्णन और न्यायमूर्ति दीपक मिश्रा की खंडपीठ ने राज्य सरकार से यह बताने को भी कहा है कि इन धर्मस्थलों के पुनरूद्धार और मरम्मत के लिए कितनी राशि की जरूरत है। न्यायालय ने यह आदेश गुजरात सरकार की उस अपील पर दिया, जिसमें नष्ट और क्षतिग्रस्त हुए धर्मस्थलों का मुआवजा देने के गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय के आदेश को चुनौती दी गई थी।-----

पाकिस्तान में आपात स्थिति में उतारे गए आबू धाबी से नई दिल्ली आ रहे एयर इंडिया के विमान के सभी एक सौ २२ यात्री सकुशल नई दिल्ली के इंदिरा गांधी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर पहुंच गए हैं। एयर इंडिया की ए-३१९ एयर बस को हाइड्रॉलिक प्रणाली में कथित गड़बड़ी के कारण आज सुबह आपात स्थिति में नवाबशाह हवाई अड्डे पर उतारना पड़ा था।एयर इंडिया के प्रवक्ता ने हमारे संवाददाता को बताया है कि तकनीकी गड़बड़ी के कारण कॉकपिट के इंडिकेटर ने गलत अलार्म दे दिया था। उन्होंने बताया कि एयर बस ए-३१९ भी वापस आ गया है।

केन्द्र और बिहार सरकार ने आज विश्व बैंक के साथ एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये। समझौते के अनुसार बिहार में चलायी जा रही जीविका परियोजना को लगभग पांच अरब साठ करोड़ रुपये और दिये जाएंगे। परियोजना का उद्देश्य बिहार के ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों का सामाजिक और आर्थिक संशक्तिकरण करना है। वित्त मंत्रालय द्वारा जारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार अतिरिक्त वित्तीय सहायता से परियोजना के अंतर्गत शामिल छह जिलों और उनके सभी ब्लॉकों तक इसका लाभ पहुंचाया जा सकेगा। इससे बिहार में गरीबी दूर करने की दिशा में व्यापक तौर पर सहायता मिलेगी।-----

केंद्र ने गरीबी रेखा से नीचे के परिवारों के लिए राज्यों और केंद्रशासित प्रदेशों को गेहूं और चावल सहित पचास लाख टन अतिरिक्त अनाज का आबंटन किया है। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार, तीस लाख ७८ हजार नौ सौ नौ टन चावल और १९ लाख बीस हजार ९१ टन गेहूं की मंजूरी दी गई है।-----

दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने एयर इंडिया प्रबंधन और उसके पायलटों को आपसी सहमति के लिए प्रयास करने को कहा है। न्यायालय ने कहा है कि बर्खास्त पायलटों की बहाली और उनकी सेवा शर्तों से जुड़े मुद्दों को उप श्रमायुक्त के साथ बैठकर शीघ्र ही हल किया जाना चाहिए। दोनों पक्षों के बीच चल रही बातचीत की प्रगति के बारे में समझौता अधिकारी द्वारा दाखिल रिपोर्ट को मंजूर करते हुए, न्यायमूर्ति रेवा खेत्रपाल ने पायलटों और प्रबंधन अधिकारियों को कल न्यायालय में पेश होने को कहा।-----

ओडिशा के नयागढ़ जि+ले मे आज सौनसिया में रानपुर के आंगनवाडी केन्द्र की दीवार गिरने से पांच बच्चे मारे गये और सात घायल हो गये। भुवनेश्वर से लगभग ८० किलोमीटर दूर एक प्राइमरी स्कूल परिसर में चलाये जा रहे आंगनवाडी केन्द्र में दोपहर के भोजन के समय यह दुर्घटना हुई।मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक ने घटना को दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण बताया और प्रत्येक मृतक के परिवार को एक लाख रूपये की सहायता की घोषणा की। घायलों का निशुल्क उपचार किया जाएगा। राज्य सरकार ने घटना की जांच शुरू कर दी है।

मिस्र में बहाल की गई संसद के स्पीकर साद अल-कतात्नी ने कल संसद का सत्र बुलाया है। यह कदम राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद मुर्सी के उस आदेश के बाद उठाया गया है, जिसमें सर्वोच्च संवैधानिक न्यायालय के संसद बहाली के आदेश को रद्द करने के निर्देश को खारिज कर दिया गया था। राष्ट्रपति मुर्सी ने संसद का अधिवेशन बुलाने के निर्देश भी दिए हैं। शीर्ष न्यायालय ने राष्ट्रपति के आदेश की समीक्षा के लिए कल आपात बैठक बुलाई है।-----
सीरिया में जारी हिंसा को खत्म करने के बारे में अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय दूत कोफी अन्नान ने आज सीरिया के राष्ट्रपति बशर अल असद से बातचीत की। अन्नान ने बताया कि बातचीत रचनात्मक रही और इसका मुख्य मुद्दा हिंसा से निपटने के लिए उनके छह सूत्रीय योजना को लागू करने के तरीके थे। श्री कोफी अन्नान ने यह भी कहा कि संयुक्त राष्ट्र का निगरानी दल फिलहाल सीरिया में ही रहेगा।-----

Home Minister P. Chidambaram today said the UPA-II is confident that it will put the country back on higher economic growth. He termed the BJP's criticism of the Prime Minister's performance as distasteful. Mr. Chidambaram asked the BJP leaders not to make too much of magazine articles,adding that the Government will prove all criticism wrong through concrete achievements.
We are confident that we will get out of this trough and we will get back to the high growth that's the answer to the time magazine article.
Mr. Chidambaram was responding to the BJP's criticism of the Prime Minister's performance in an article carried in the Time Magazine. Mr. Chidambaram said that the magazine had also recalled the splendid achievements of UPA-I and had criticised the then Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee. The BJP spokesperson, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad demanded resignation of the Prime Minister following the article in the magazine.
Also a point for him to introspect does it register any concern in him to change the cause to rectify the things.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mrs. Ambika Soni strongly defended the Government exuding confidence that the country will bounce back to higher economic growth under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh,adding that the magazine article should be taken in the right perspective.
If anybody reads that article carefully, he would realise that inspite of everything, it has posed a question, whether India can come out of the current economic situation, we believe and are confident that we will come out of this difficult situation.
Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi today termed the report on the Prime Minister as a deliberate attack on Dr. Manmohan Singh and an attempt to malign the UPA government. Addressing a press conference in Kochi this evening, Vayalar Ravi said the report appears to be instigated by a section of multinationals in a bid to frighten investors and is linked to the Vodafone tax case.

The Bombay High Court today acquitted five accused in the 2002 Best Bakery case for want of evidence but upheld the conviction of four others sentenced to life term by the trial court. A division bench comprising Justices V.M. Kanade and P.D. Kode, who had on July 3 reserved the judgment on the appeals filed by the accused against the trial court verdict, upheld the life sentence of Sanjay Thakkar, Bahadur Singh Chauhan, Sanabhai Baria and Dinesh Rajbhar.
The judges relied on the statements of four injured witnesses, all workers of the Best Bakery, who had identified the accused and said they were present at the place of the incident armed with swords and other lethal weapons during the post-Godhra communal riots.
The division bench had commenced day-to-day hearing in the appeals filed by the nine convicted accused in March this year. Of the 17 accused, nine were convicted and sentenced to life by a special court in Mumbai in 2006. The nine had then approached the High Court challenging the order.

The Supreme Court today directed the Gujarat government to file a survey report of the religious sites which were damaged and destroyed during the 2002 riots in the state. A two judge Bench also asked the state government to quantify the amount needed for building and repairing those sites that were affected by the riots.
The apex court gave the directions on an appeal filed by the Gujarat government challenging a Gujarat High Court order directing it to pay compensation for damage and destruction of the religious sites.
At the very start of the proceedings, the Gujarat government said that the state exchequer could not be used for building and repairing religious sites. The Bench, however said, it would look into the issue.
The Court posted the matter for further hearing on July 30.

All the passengers of New Delhi-bound Air India airbus A-319 flying from Abu Dhabi have arrived at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on a special Air India flight.
Air India airbus A-319 had to make an emergency landing at Pakistan's Nawabshah airport today following a reported problem in its hydraulic system.
Air India spokesperson Praveen told our correspondent that it was due to a technical fault in the indicator of the cockpit which had given a false alarm.
Earlier, in the wee hours today, the captain of Air India airbus-319 contacted Pakistani authorities and sought permission for landing after detecting some problem with the hydraulic system. The plane landed at Nawabshah airport in southern Sindh province at 3.37 am.

The Delhi High Court today directed the Air India management and its pilots to hold a conciliation process on a day-to-day basis before the Deputy Labour Commissioner to expeditiously resolve issues relating to reinstatement of sacked pilots and career progression. Accepting the interim report filed by the Conciliating officer about the progress of ongoing negotiations between the parties, Justice Reva Khetrapal directed the pilots and management officials to appear before the officer tomorrow.
Seeking final report from the conciliator after the talks between the parties, the court posted the matter for July 13 for further hearing.

The Centre and the Bihar Government today signed an agreement with the World Bank for 560 crore Rupees additional credit to scale-up the ongoing Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project, Jeevika.The Project is aimed at enhancing the social and economic empowerment of the rural poor in Bihar. According to a release issued by the Ministry of Finnace, the additional financing will not only allow the Project to cover all the villages in the existing districts, but also provide a comprehensive district wide model for poverty alleviation in Bihar.
The Project has initiated a number of interventions on a pilot basis through convergence with other government programs and enabled access to public entitlements for the poor.These include access to social security pensions for nearly 29,000 households in partnership with the social welfare department and access to wage employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in partnership with the rural development department for nearly 5000 Self Help Group women.

A 7-member Central team will reach Assam tomorrow to assess the damage caused by the floods and landslides. Talking to AIR,V.K Peepersenia, Principal Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management department today said that the team will visit the flood hit districts of the state.
330 villages in Dhemaji district of the state, are still reeling under flood. Flood water affected around 1 lakh, 80 thousand people who have taken shelter at the embankments and in relief camps.

In Odisha, five children have been killed and seven others injured after a wall of an anganwadi centre collapsed at Suansia in Ranpur of Nayagarh district today. The incident occured when the 14 were having their lunch at the anganwadi centre premises of a primary school, about 80 km from Bhubaneswar. Two of them succumbed to their injuries.

In West Bengal, the hostel warden in Vishwa Bharati University who reportedly forced a young girl student to drink her own urine as a punishment has been arrested and suspended. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged with the Police by the girl's father.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange dropped 129 points, or 0.7 percent, to close at 17,392, amid a falling rupee, and weakness in the global stock markets, today. The Nifty lost 42 points, or 0.8 percent, to 5,275. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore dropped between 1.2 percent and 2.4 percent. Falling for the fourth day in a row, the rupee weakened 50 paise, to 55.92 against the dollar. Gold ended flat, at 30,030 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. Gross direct tax collections during April to June in the current fiscal have registered a 6.77 per cent growth at 1,11,182 crore rupees as against 1,04,135 crore rupees in the same period during the last year. Gross collection of corporate taxes showed an increase of 3.48 per cent and stood at 70,594 crore rupees which was 68,223 crore rupees in the same period last year. Gross collection of personal income tax was up by 13 per cent and stood at 40,520 crore rupees as against 35,858 crore rupees in the same period last year. Net direct tax collections were up by 47.16 per cent and stood at 84,273 crore rupees compared to57,267 crore rupees in the same period in the last fiscal.

The Centre has allocated fifty lakh tonnes of additional foodgrains, including wheat and rice, to the states and union territories for below poverty line, BPL, families. An official release says, thirty lakh seventy eight thousand nine hundred nine tonnes of rice and nineteen lakh twenty one thousand ninety one tonnes of wheat have been sanctioned.

In Egypt, the Speaker of the reinstated parliament, Saad al-Katatni, has convened the parliament session tomorrow. A day after the issue of Presidential decree, the speaker of the Egyptian parliament Saad Al Katatani has convened the meeting of reinstated parliament tomorrow. Katatni welcomed President Mursi's decision and said that the assembly will perform its legislative and supervising duties once it reconvenes. President Mursi on Sunday annulled Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi's decision to dissolve the Islamist dominated parliament and ordered a recall of the People’s Assembly. He has also ordered for fresh parliament elections within 60 days of the adoption of new constitution. In Pakistan, six military personnel and a policeman were killed when armed miscreants attacked the camp of security forces near the river Chanab in the eastern district of Gujarat, early this morning. According to the police, three officials were also injured in the attack. The camp was set up a month ago to search the body of a Major, who had drowned in the river.
