तमिलनाडु में ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डी एम के प्रमुख जयललिता को आज राज्य की मुख्यमंत्री पद की शपथ दिलाई गई। मद्रास विश्वविद्यालय के सैन्टनरी ऑडिटोरियम में एक शानदार समारोह में राज्यपाल सुरजीत सिंह बरनाला ने सुश्री जयललिता को पद की शपथ दिलाई गई। सुश्री जयललिता तीसरी बार राज्य की मुख्यमंत्री बनी हैं। उनके साथ मंत्रिमंडल के ३३ मंत्रियों को भी शपथ दिलाई जा रही है। इनमें प्रमुख मंत्रियों में पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ओ० पन्निरसेलवम और श्री सेनगोटियन शामिल हैं जो स्वर्गीय एम० जी० रामचन्द्रन के समय से ही उनके वफादार रहे हैं। डी एम डी के पार्टी के नेता विजयकांत तथा ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डी एम के मोर्चे के अन्य सभी नेता भी शपथ ग्रहण समारोह में मौजूद रहे। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि शपथ ग्रहण समारोह में गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी, तेलगुदेशम पार्टी के नेता चन्द्र बाबू नायडू और भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के ए० बी० वर्द्धन भी विशेष आमंत्रित लोगों के रूप में मौजूद थे।शपथ ग्रहण समारोह के बाद मुख्यमंत्री सुश्री जयललिता फोर्टसेंट जॉर्ज रवाना हो गई। जहां से आज से वे ही कामकाज संभाल लेंगी। पूरे राज्य से एआईएडीएमके के हजारों कार्यकर्ता मरीना बीच के किनारे जमा थे ताकि वे अपनी नेता की एक झलक ले सके और उन्हें बधाई दे सकें। जयललिता ने उनकी शुभकामनाएं लेने के बाद उनका आभार व्यक्त किया। सचिवालय जाने वाली सड़क पर बड़े-बड़े पर्दे लगाए गए थे। लोगों ने चिलचिलाती गर्मी के बावजूद कामराजर सलाई में लगाई गई डिजिटल टीवी स्क्रीन पर शपथ ग्रहण समारोह देखा। चेन्नई से संजय घोष की रिपोर्ट के साथ दिल्ली से आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए सौरभ अग्रवाल।

पुद्दुचेरी में एन आर कांग्रेस नेता एन रंगासामी आज मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में शपथ लेंगे। उप राज्यपाल इकबाल सिंह दिन में साढ़े तीन बजे उन्हें पद और गोपनीयता की शपथ दिलायेंगे। श्री रंगासामी ने कल पार्टी विधायक दल का नेता चुने जाने के बाद, उप राज्यपाल से मुलाकात कर सरकार बनाने का दावा पेश किया।एन आर कांग्रेस ने तीस सीटों वाली विधानसभा में १५ सीटें जीती हैं। एक मात्र निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार ने पार्टी को समर्थन दिया है।

असम में नवनिर्वाचित कांगे्रस विधायकों की अपना नेता चुनने के लिए कल गुवाहाटी में बैठक होगी। केन्द्रीय वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी, कांग्रेस महासचिव और असम मामलों के प्रभारी दिग्विजय सिंह बैठक में मौजूद रहेंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने पार्टी सूत्रों के हवाले से बताया कि तरुण गोगोई के फिर से निर्विरोध नेता चुने जाने की उम्मीद है।नए मुख्यमंत्री को - शपथ दिलाई जाएगी। नये मुख्यमंत्री को अपना मंत्रिमंडल चुनने में बहुत मुश्किल का सामना करना होगा, क्योंकि कांग्रेस को ७८ विधायकों को मंत्रिमंडल में शामिल करना और राज्य के अलग-अलग हिस्से से चुनकर आए प्रतिनिधियों को संतुष्ट करना आसान नहीं होगा। हालांकि कांग्रेस अकेले सरकार बना सकती है। लेकिन बिना बीपीएफ के साथ उसका गठबंधन जारी रहने का उम्मीद है। पिछले बार मंत्रिमंडल में बीपीएफ के तीन मंत्रि थे। अब यह देखना होगा कि उनकी संख्या कितनी होती है। रमणीकांत शर्मा, आकाशवाणी समाचार, गुवाहटी।

मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी की पोलित ब्यूरो की आज नई दिल्ली में बैठक शुरू हो गई है, जिसमें पश्चिम बंगाल चुनाव में पार्टी की हार के कारणों का विश्लेषण किया जाएगा। पश्चिम बंगाल में लगातार ३४ वर्ष के शासन के बाद पार्टी सत्ता से बाहर हो गई, जबकि केरल में वह अपने लेफ्ट डेमोक्रेटिक फ्रंट को विजय दिलाने में विफल रही। हालांकि उसे १४० सदस्यों वाली विधानसभा में ४५ सीटें मिली और वह सबसे बड़े दल के रूप में उभरी है। हमारे संवाददाता ने पार्टी सूत्रों के हवाले से खबर दी है कि पश्चिम बंगाल में करीब-करीब सफाया होने के बाद विधानसभा चुनाव परिणामों का विश्लेषण करने की प्रक्रिया में सीपीआईएम के राज्य सचिव और वाम मोर्चा के अध्यक्ष बिमान बासु की भूमिका विशेष जांच के घेरे में आ सकती है।निर्वतमान मुख्यमंत्री बुद्धदेव भट्टाचार्य पोलित ब्यूरो की बैठक में भाग नहीं ले रहे हैं।
भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी की भी उच्चस्तरीय बैठकें होगीं, जिनमें चुनाव नतीजों और वाम मोर्चे के प्रदर्शन का विश्लेषण किया जाएगा। ये बुधवार को पार्टी के केन्द्रीय सचिवालय की बैठक के साथ शुरू होंगी। सीपीआई महासचिव ए बी बर्धन ने कल आकाशवाणी से बातचीत में पश्चिम बंगाल में वाम मोर्चा की हार को एक निर्णायक मोड़ बताया। श्री बर्धन ने वाम नेताओं को सचेत करते हुए कहा कि वे कम्युनिस्ट बने रहें, लेकिन हठधर्मी न बनें। श्री बर्धन ने कहा कि चुनाव में हार के लिए किसी एक व्यक्ति को जिम्मेदार नही ठहराया जा सकता। उन्होंने वाम नेताओं को सलाह दी कि वे लम्बे समय तक विपक्ष में बैठकर जिम्मेदार और रचनात्मक विपक्ष की भूमिका निभाने के लिए तैयार रहें।

कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री बी० एस० येदियुरप्पा ने राज्य में संवैधानिक स्थिति के बारे में राज्यपाल हंसराज भारद्वाज द्वारा केन्द्र सरकार को भेजे गये पत्र के मद्देनजर आज बंगलौर में भाजपा के विधायकों के साथ कई बैठकें की। मुख्यमंत्री ने बताया कि आज राज्य मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक होगी, जिसमें उनके भावी राजनीतिक कदम का फैसला किया जायेगा। उन्होंने कांग्रेस की आलोचना करते हुए कहा कि वह उनकी सरकार गिराने के लिए राजभवन का इस्तेमाल कर रही है। मुख्यमंत्री ने दावा किया कि उन्हें २२४ सदस्यों की विधान सभा में १२० विधायकों का समर्थन प्राप्त है।दूसरी तरफ, कांग्रेस की राज्य इकाई के अध्यक्ष जी० परमेश्वर ने राज्यपाल की कार्रवाई को उचित ठहराया है। भाजपा विधायकों ने केन्द्र सरकार को भेजे गये राज्यपाल के पत्र के विरोध में धरना दिया।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने कहा है कि कर्नाटक के राज्यपाल हंसराज भारद्वाज, राज्य विधानसभा का सत्र न बुलाकर असंवैधानिक रूप से काम कर रहे हैं। नई दिल्ली में एन डी ए की बैठक के बाद संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता अरूण जेटली ने कहा कि एन डी ए के नेता भी कर्नाटक के राज्यपाल की कार्यवाही की कड़ी निन्दा करते हैं। श्री जेटली ने कहा कि येदियुरप्पा सरकार को राज्य विधानसभा में बहुमत प्राप्त है।श्री बीएस येदियुरूप्पा के नेतृत्व में सरकार के पास कर्नाटक विधानसभा में पूर्ण बहुमत है। सरकार के पास १२१ से ज्यादा विधायकों का समर्थन है। जो सरकार का विरोध कर रहे हैं, उनकी संख्या ९७ या उससे कम है। जब तक सरकार को बहुमत प्राप्त है। किसी भी राज्यपाल को मंत्रि परिषद की सहमति पर चलना होता है।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने पेट्रोल की कीमत पांच रूपये प्रति लीटर बढ़ने पर राजधानी दिल्ली में कई स्थानों पर विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने यह बढ़ोतरी तुरंत वापस लेने की मांग की।हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी के कार्यकर्ता अक्षरधाम मंदिर के सामने प्रदर्शन कर रहे थे, जिससे यातायात जाम हो गया। अम्बेडकर नगर में बीआरटी कोरिडोर पर भी जाम लगा। कानून और व्यवस्था बनाए रखने के लिए राजधानी में सभी प्रमुख सड़कों पर बड़ी संख्या में पुलिस बल तैनात है।

जम्मू-कश्मीर में पंचायत चुनाव के नौवें चरण में आज नौ प्रखंडों में मतदान शांतिपूर्वक चल रहा है। सुरक्षा के कड़े प्रबंध किए गए हैं। दोपहर तक ५५ प्रतिशत वोट डाले जा चुके थे। जम्मू डिविजन के चार और कश्मीर डिविजन के पांच प्रखंडों में सुबह आठ बजे मतदान शुरु हुआ।------
लीबिया ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र से कहा है कि अगर नैटो तत्काल युद्धविराम कर दे, तो वह भी लड़ाई रोकने के लिए तैयार है। प्रधानमंत्री बघदादी मेहमूदी ने लीबिया के दौरे पर गए संयुक्त राष्ट्र के विशेष दूत अब्दुल-इलाह-अल-खातिब के सामने आज यह प्रस्ताव रखा। इस बीच, सरकार के खिलाफ विद्रोह चौथे महीने भी जारी है। सरकारी समाचार एजेंसी जाना ने मेहमूदी के हवाले से कहा कि अगर नैटो बमबारी रोक दे, तो लीबिया तुरंत युद्धविराम कर देगा। उधर, ब्रिटेन की सशस्त्र सेनाओं के प्रमुख ने कहा है कि नैटो को बमबारी का अपना अभियान और व्यापक पैमाने पर चलाना चाहिए, ताकि गद्दाफी सत्ता में न रहें।इस बीच, राजधानी त्रिपोली के पूर्वी क्षेत्र में बड़े पैमाने पर विस्फोट हुए और आसमान में धुंआ उठता हुए देखा गया। त्रिपोली के उपनगरीय क्षेत्र ताजूरा के निवासियों ने यह जानकारी दी। समाचार एजेंसी जाना ने त्रिपोली के पश्चिम में जोरा में नॉटो की सैन्य कार्रवाई से लोगों के मारे जाने और इमारतों को क्षति पहुंचने की खबर दी है।

अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय अपराध न्यायालय-आईसीसी के मुख्य वकील ने मानवता के विरूद्ध अपराधों के लिए कर्नल गद्दाफी सहित लीबिया के तीन शीर्ष अधिकारियों की गिरफ्तारी के लिए मंजूरी मांगी है। लीबिया ने इस पर आपत्ति प्रकट की है और उसके विदेश उपमंत्री खालिद कैम ने कहा है कि आई सी सी के इस रवैये पर सवाल उठाया जा सकता है। त्रिपोली से मीडिया की एक खबर में कहा गया है कि आई सी सी ने दो महीने पहले युद्ध अपराधों के सिलसिले में कर्नल गद्दाफी और उनके वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के खिलाफ जांच-पड़ताल शुरू की। लीबिया में विद्रोह होने पर इन लोगों ने उसे कुचलने की कोशिश की थी। आई सी सी के मुख्य वकील ने न्यायाधीशों से कहा है कि वे गिरफ्तारी के वारंटों को मंजूरी दें। जिन लोगों के खिलाफ मंजूरी मांगी गई हैं, उनमें कर्नल गद्दाफी और गुप्चर सेवा के प्रमुख अब्दुल्ला सानूसी और उनके पुत्र सैफ-अल-इस्लाम शामिल हैं। लीबिया सरकार ने कहा है कि वह न्यायालय के आदेशों की अनदेखी करेगी।------
उजबेकिस्तान के उप प्रधानमंत्री रूस्तम अजीमो ने आज नई दिल्ली में पर्यटन मंत्री सुबोधकांत सहाय से मुलाकात की। दोनों नेताओं ने पर्यटकों की संख्या और सहयोग बढ़ाने के बारे में चर्चा की। इस संबंध में एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर भी किए गए।संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री अजीमो ने कहा कि भारत और उजबेकिस्तान के बीच सदियों पुराने सांस्कृतिक ऐतिहासिक संबंध रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि आर्थिक, वाणिज्य, शिक्षा और संस्कृति के क्षेत्र में दोनों देश सहयोग कर रहे हैं। विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में दोनों देशों के बीच पहले से ही ४२ समझौते हैं।
श्री सहाय ने कहा कि उजबेकिस्तान से पुराने सांस्कृतिक संबंध होने के बावजूद पर्यटकों की संख्या बहुत कम है। उन्होंने दोनों देशों में महत्वपूर्ण पर्यटन स्थलों के प्रचार की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया। श्री सहाय ने आश्वासन दिया कि पर्यटन बढ़ाने के साथ-साथ भारत और उजबेकिस्तान के लोगों के बीच सम्पर्क बढ़ाने पर भी जोर दिया जाएगा।

पाकिस्तान में बंदूकधारियों ने कराची में सउदी अरब के वाणिज्य दूतावास की एक कार पर गोलियां चलाईं, जिससे एक व्यक्ति की मौत हो गई। खबरों के अनुसार मृतक इस कार्यालय में काम करता था। पुलिस का कहना है कि दो मोटरसाइकिलों में सवार चार व्यक्तियों ने कार पर दोनों ओर से गोलियां चलाईं। एक सउदी अधिकारी के अनुसार यह हमला वाणिज्य दूतावास की इमारत से लगभग एक किलोमीटर की दूरी पर हुआ। सउदी दूत अब्दुल अजीज-अल-घदीर ने हमले की निंदा की है। अब तक किसी भी गुट ने हमले की जिम्मेदारी नहीं ली है। दो दिन पहले वाणिज्य दूतावास की इमारत पर हथगोले फेंके गए थे, लेकिन तब कोई घायल नहीं हुआ था।------
यूरोपीय संघ के वित्त मंत्रियों की आज ब्रसल्स में बैठक हो रही है, जिसमें यूरो मुद्रा अपनाने वाले देशों में बढ़ते ऋण संकट पर विचार किया जाएगा। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष के अध्यक्ष डोमिनिक स्ट्रॉस कान इस बैठक में शामिल नहीं होंगे। श्री कान ऋण संकट से जूझ रहे यूरोपीय संघ के देशों को मुद्रा कोष से ऋण दिलाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते रहे हैं। यूरोपीय संघ के वित्त मंत्री पुर्तगाल के ऋण पैकेज की शर्तों को मंजूरी दे सकते हैं। इसके अलावा वे ग्रीस की स्थिति पर भी विचार करेंगे, जिसे पिछले साल ऋण पैकेज दिया गया था, लेकिन वह ऋण संकट से उबर नहीं पाया है।------
मिस्र के विदेश मंत्री नबील एलारेबी के अरब लीग के अगले प्रमुख बनने की पुष्टि कर दी गई है। मिस्र की सरकारी समाचार एजेंसी ने घोषणा की कि कल रात अरब संगठन के २२ सदस्य देशों के प्रमुखों ने एक बैठक में यह निर्णय लिया। उनकी नियुक्ति इसी पद पर मिस्र के पूर्व विदेश मंत्री अम्र मूसा के स्थान पर हुई है। मूसा इस संगठन के प्रमुख पद पर दस साल तक रहे और उन्होंने मिस्र के राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए होने वाले चुनाव में खड़े होने के कारण इस पद से इस्तीफा दिया।------
प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने आज नई दिल्ली में सेना के शीर्ष अधिकारियों के साथ देश की सुरक्षा की स्थिति का जायजा लिया। प्रधानमंत्री निवास पर ९० मिनट तक चली इस सुरक्षा समीक्षा बैठक में रक्षा मंत्री ए के एंटनी, राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार शिवशंकर मेनन, सेना के तीनों अंगों के प्रमुख, रक्षा सचिव प्रदीप कुमार और रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन के प्रमुख वी० के० सारस्वत भी मौजूद थे।रक्षा सूत्रों के अनुसार प्रधानमंत्री को देश की समुचित सुरक्षा स्थिति और सुरक्षा बलों की सामान्य तैयारी के बारे में जानकारी दी गई। पाकिस्तान में सुरक्षा की बदलती स्थिति और भारत-चीन सीमा की स्थिति पर भी विचार किया गया।
पिछले बुधवार को रक्षा मंत्री ने भी पड़ोसी देश की स्थिति के मद्देनजर सुरक्षा बलों द्वारा किये जा रहे उपायों की समीक्षा की थी। उन्हें नौसैनिक सुरक्षा एजेन्सियों ने तटों की सुरक्षा के बारे में जानकारी दी।
हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि सुरक्षा स्थिति की समीक्षा, ओसामा बिन लादेन के मारे जाने और पाकिस्तान की स्थिति के मद्देनजर महत्वपूर्ण मानी जा रही है। ओसामा बिन लादेन २ मई को इस्लामाबाद के निकट एबटाबाद में अमरीकी कार्रवाई में मारा गया था।

केन्द्रीय उपभोक्ता मामले और वितरण राज्यमंत्री के वी थॉमस ने कहा है कि देश में खाद्यान्न निर्बाध रूप से लाने-लेजाने की नीति पर विचार किया जा रहा है। हैदराबाद में संवाददाताओं को उन्होंने बताया कि वे इस बारे में राज्य सरकारों से विचार विमर्श किया जा रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि धान के न्यूनतम समर्थन मूल्य बढ़ाने पर सकारात्मक रूप से विचार हो रहा है और इस संबंध में जल्दी ही निर्णय कर लिया जाएगा।------
बम्बई शेयर बाजार के संवेदी सूचकांक में आज करीब १२० अंकों की गिरावट आई। अब से कुछ देर पहले यह २०४ अंक गिरकर १८ हजार ३२६ पर था। इसी तरह नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ््टी भी ३५ अंकों से अधिक की गिरावट के साथ खुला। अब से कुछ देर पहले यह ५३ .अंक गिरकर ५ हजार ४८९ पर था।------
बिहार में जमुई जिले में अपहृत सात मतदान अधिकारियों का पता लगाने का काम बड़े पैमाने पर चल रहा है। माओवादियों ने इन अधिकारियों का कल अपहरण कर लिया था। उस समय ये अधिकारी जिले के सोनहो थाना क्षेत्र के अन्तर्गत चरका पाथर इलाके में पंचायत चुनावों के नौंवें चरण के लिए अपने निर्धारित मतदान केन्द्रों की ओर जा रहे थे। पुलिस महानिदेशक ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि सी आर पी एफ और विशेष कार्यबल के जवानों को खोजबीन के काम में लगाया गया है। जमुई के वन क्षेत्र में उनका पता लगाने के लिए बड़े पैमाने पर कार्रवाई जारी है।पुलिस को अपहृत चुनावकर्मियों के बारे में कुछ पता नहीं चल सका है, लेकिन खबरों के अनुसार माओवादी मांग कर रहे हैं कि उनके दो व्यक्तियों को रिहा किया जाए, जिसके बदले वे अपहृत चुनाव कर्मचारियों को सुरक्षित रूप से छोड़ देंगे।

पश्चिम बंगाल में बाकुड़ा जिले में छटना के पास सड़क दुर्घटना में १२ लोगों की मौत हो गई और कई घायल हो गए। आधिकारिक सूत्रों के अनुसार एक यात्री बस के अनियंत्रित होकर उलट जाने से यह घटना हुई। घायलों को स्थानीय अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है। यह बस कोलकाता से पुरूलिया जा रही थी।------
उत्तर भारत के विभिन्न हिस्सों में गर्मी का प्रकोप जारी है।राजस्थान में पिछले एक हफ्ते से तेज गर्मी बरकरार है। राज्य के उत्तरी और पश्चिमी हिस्से गर्मी से सबसे अधिक प्रभावित हैं। मौसम विभाग का अनुमान है कि आज अधिकतम तापमान ४६ डिग्री सेल्सियस तक पहुंच सकता है।
राजस्थान के गंधानगर, छुरू, बीकानेर, झुनझुनू, जेसलमेर और कोटा जिले के लोगों को आज सुबह से ही चिलचिलाती धूप का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। गंधानगर और छुरू में तो ११ बजे ही तापमान ४० डिग्री तक उछल गया है। रास्ते के अन्य हिस्सों में भी पारा ४० डिग्री के उपर रहने के कारण लोग अपने घरों अथवा कार्यस्थलों में रहने को मजबूर है। गर्मी को देखते हुए महात्मा गांधी नरेगा योजना का कार्य समय भी बदल दिया गया है। अस्पतालों में मौसमी बिमारियों से पीड़ित मरीजों की संख्या में भी बढ़ोतरी हो रही है। शहरी और ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में पेयजल की अनियमित आपूर्ति ने गर्मी से बेहाल लोगों की समस्या और बढ़ा दी है। प्रेम भारती, आकाशवाणी समाचार, जयपुर।

मध्य प्रदेश के नौगांव और खजुराहो में पिछले २४ घन्टों के दौरान अधिकतम तापमान ४५ डिग्री सेल्सियस रिकॉर्ड किया गया। हमारे संवाददाता के अनुसार मौसम कार्यालय ने तापमान में और बढ़ोतरी होने का अनुमान व्यक्त किया है।
पिछले चार दिनों के दौरान प्रदेश के अधिकांश क्षेत्रों में तापमान में लगातार बढ़ोती हुई है। जिससे हालात असहनीय हो गए हैं। राजधानी भोपाल में सूरज जैसे आग उगल रहा है। नगर में दिन के समय में लोग घरों में या दफ्तरों में ही रहना पसंद कर रहे हैं और सड़के लगभग वीरान दिखाई देती है। नागरिकों को रात में भी राहत नहीं मिल रही है, क्योंकि रात के तापमान भी सामान्य से अधिक दर्ज किए जा रहे हैं। मौसम केंद्र के अनुसार आसमान के साफ रहने से आने वाले दिनों में भी गर्मी से राहत मिलने की संभावना नहीं है। शारिक नूर, आकाशवाणी समाचार, भोपाल।

ओलंपिक खेलों के मैराथन चैम्पियन कीनिया के समुअल सैम्मी वांजिरू का निधन हो गया है। वे न्याहुरूरू शहर के रिफ्ट वैली क्षेत्र में अपने घर की बालकनी से नीचे गिर पड़े थे। पुलिस के अनुसार २४ वर्षीय वांजिरू के अन्दरूनी चोटे आईं और यह पता लगाने की कोशिश की जा रही है कि वे जानबूझकर नीचे कूदे या दुर्घटनावश गिरे। उन्होंने कीनिया के लिए ओलंपिक खेलों में मैराथन में पहला स्वर्ण पदक जीता था। पिछले दिसंबर में उन पर अपनी पत्नी को मार डालने की धमकी देने का आरोप लगा था और उनके पास गैर-कानूनी तौर पर ए.के.-४७ राइफल पाई गई थी।------
पाकिस्ताना यात्रा पर गये अमरीकी सांसद जॉन कैरी पाकिस्तानी नेताओं पर इस बात के लिए दबाव बना सकते हैं कि वह अलकायदा नेता ओसामा बिन लादेन के बारे में पूछे जाने वाले सवालों के जवाब दें। सीनेट की विदेश मामलों की समिति के अध्यक्ष कैरी ओसामा बिन लादेन के मारे जाने के बाद पाकिस्तान जाने वाले पहले उच्च स्तरीय अमरीकी अधिकारी हैं। ओसामा इस महीने की दो तारीख को पाकिस्तानी छावनी शहर एबटाबाद में अमरीकी कार्रवाई में मारा गया था। जॉन कैरी ने कल पाकिस्तान के सेनाध्यक्ष जनरल अशफाक परवेज+ कय्यानी से रावलंिपंडी स्थित सैनिक मुख्यालय में मुलाकात की। सूत्रों के अनुसार बातचीत एबटाबाद की कार्रवाई के बाद पाक-अमरीकी संबंधों पर केंद्रित रही। बातचीत के दौरान आतंक के खिलाफ लड़ाई में सहयोग के बारे में भी चर्चा हुई।

The AIADMK Supremo Jayalalithaa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today at a colourful ceremony at the Madras University Centenary auditorium. The Tamil Nadu Governor Mr. Surjeet Singh Barnala administered the oath of office to Ms.Jayalalithaa who has taken on the mantle of the Chief Ministership for the third time. Alongwith her, 33 Ministers of her Cabinet have taken oath. Prominent among the Ministers, are former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and Sengottaiyan who has been a loyalist from the period of late Chief Minister MG Ramachandran. The DMDK leader who is to be leader of opposition Mr. Vijaykant, and all other leaders of the AIADMK front were also present at the ceremony. West Bengal chief minister designate and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will hold consultations with Congress President Sonia Gandhi later in the day to discuss government formation in the state. The Congress president today held consultations with senior party colleagues on the issue of her party's participation in the West Bengal government. Our correspondent reports, Ms Gandhi held talks with her political secretary Ahmed Patel and senior leader Shakeel Ahmed, who is in charge of party affairs for West Bengal.
Ms. Banerjee, who along with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, arrived in New Delhi from Kolkata late last night, is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Issues of government formation in West Bengal and Ms. Banerjee's successor in the Railway Ministry are expected to be discussed by the leaders.

The CPI-M politburo meet has begun in New Delhi to discuss poll debacle in West Bengal. The meet has been convened to initiate the process of analysing the reasons behind the party’s defeat. While the party lost power in West Bengal after a continuous 34-year-rule, it failed to lead its Left Democratic Front, LDF, to victory in Kerala although it won 45 seats and emerged as the single largest party. Our correspondent quoting party sources reports, after its near-complete rout in West Bengal, the CPI-M state secretary and Left Front chairman Biman Bose's role is expected to come under special scrutiny in the process of a thorough analysis of the Assembly poll results. Outgoing chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee is not attending the politburo meet.
The CPI too will hold its high-level meeting to analyse the poll results and the overall performance of the Left Front, beginning with a Central Secretariat meeting on Wednesday. CPI general secretary A B Bardhan yesterday speaking to AIR has described the drubbing of the Left in West Bengal as a defining moment. Mr. Bardhan has also cautioned its leaders to remain Communist but not be dogmatic. The veteran leader also advised the Left to be prepared to have a long stint in the opposition benches and be a constructive, responsible opposition.

In Assam, the newly-elected Congress Legislators will be meeting in Guwahati tomorrow to elect the CLP leader. The CLP meeting is to be attended by Union Finance Minister-Pranab Mukherjee and AICC general secretary in-charge of Assam Digvijoy Singh. Our Correspondent quoting party sources reports that Tarun Gogoi is all set to be re-elected CLP leader unopposed to enable him to continue as the Chief Minister of the State for the third term in a row. According to official sources, the new Congress Government in the State is likely to take oath on Wednesday. The new leader of the CLP will be sworn in on Wednesday, following which he will leave for New Delhi to prepare the list of members to be included in the Ministry in consultation with the party high command. This time, the new Chief Minister will have a tough time in finalizing his Ministry as the Congress has as many as 78 legislators and it will be a tough task in accommodating representatives from different communities and castes to satisfy all sections of people. Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa held series of meetings with BJP party MLA in Bangalore today in the backdrop of Governor H R Bharadwaj's letter to the Central Government regarding the constitutional situation in Karnataka. Bhartiya Janta Party today staged dharnas in different places in New Delhi against the hike of five rupees in petrol prices. The party demanded immediate withdrawal of the price hike.

In Bihar, a massive search operation has been launched to locate the kidnapped seven polling officials in Jamui district of the state. Maoists abducted polling officials yesterday when they were proceeding towards their assigned booths for the ninth phase of panchayat elections at Charka Pathar area under sonho police station of the district. The Director General of Police told AIR that jawans of CRPF and Special Task Force have been engaged in search operation. An intensive combing operation is being carried out in forest areas of Jamui to locate missing polling officials. The Police remained clueless about their whereabouts. However, there were reports that the Maoists are demanding the release of two of their men in exchange for the safe release of the abducted officials.

In West Bengal, at least 12 people were killed and many others injured in a road accident near Chhatna in Bunkura Distt. today. According to official sources, incident occurred when a passenger bus overturned following loss of control. Injured passengers have been admitted to a local hospital. The people of Sri Ganganagar, Churu, Bikaner, Jhunjhunu, Jaiselmer and Kota woke up to a warm morning today. By the time it was 11 am, the temperature reached near 43 degress in Ganganagar and Churu, paralyzing the normal life. The BSE benchmark Sensex fell by 123 points to 18405 in afternoon trade today. Sensex lost nearly 120 points in opening trade on fresh selling by funds and retail investors amid a weak trend on other Asian bourses and a hike in petrol prices by state-run oil companies.

Libya today offered a truce to the UN in return for an immediate NATO ceasefire. Muammar Gaddafi's Prime Minister Baghdadi Mahmudi offered this to the visiting UN special envoy to Libya, Abdul-Ilah al-Khatib, as the anti regime revolt entered its fourth month. Mahmudi was quoted by state run Jamahiriya News Agency, JANA, as saying that Libya is keen for an immediate ceasefire to coincide with a stop to the NATO bombardment and the acceptance of international observers. The head of Britain's armed forces said NATO should widen its bombing campaign to ensure that Gaddafi is unable to cling to power.
Meanwhile, several loud explosions shook the east of Tripoli and columns of smoke rose into the sky, residents reported from Tajura, a suburb of the capital. JANA reported human losses and material damage after NATO struck military and civilian sites in Zuara, west of Tripoli. A NATO spokesman confirmed that the alliance targeted military equipment in the city this morning.

Libya has poured scorn on an announcement by the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, ICC, that it is seeking approval for the arrest of three top Libyan officials including Col. Gaddafi for crimes against humanity. Libya's Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim said ICC's practices were questionable. A media report from Tripoli says the International Criminal Court began investigating Col. Gaddafi and his senior officials for war crimes two months ago after his attempts to crush Libya's uprising. Its Chief Prosecutor is now asking judges to approve the first arrest warrants which are thought to include the Libyan leader himself as well as his Intelligence Chief Abdullah Sanusi and his son Saif al-Islam. The Libyan Government says it will simply ignore the Court pointing out that like the United States, it is not signed up to it.

Egypt's foreign minister Nabil Elaraby has been confirmed as the Arab League's next chief. Egypt's state news agency announced this a meeting of head of the 22-member Arab organisation last night. In Pakistan, gunmen opened fire on a car belonging to the Saudi consulate in Karachi, killing one person. Reports say the victim was a consular official. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The attack comes two days after grenades were thrown at the consulate building, causing no injuries. Police said four people riding on two motorcycles opened fire at the car from two sides. A Saudi official said the attack took place about one kilometre from the consular building. Saudi ambassador Abdul Aziz al-Ghadeer has condemned the attack.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has warned against further protests on Israel's borders, following yesterday's violence which left at least 12 people dead. He said Israel was determined to defend its sovereignty. Tens of thousands of Palestinians and their supporters marched towards Israel from Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. The demonstrations were called to mark the anniversary of the creation of Israel in 1948 when many Palestinians lost their homes.

Kenyan Olympic marathon champion Samuel Sammy Wanjiru has died after falling from a balcony at his home in the Rift Valley town of Nyahururu. Police said, 24 year old wanjiru had suffered internal injuries and they are trying to establish whether he had leapt deliberately or fallen by accident. Mr Wanjiru was the first Kenyan to win Olympic gold in the marathon.

some more news, In Odisha, the Nandankanan Zoological Park authorities have started a special summer menu to protect inhabitant animals from the intense heat wave condition with the mercury crossing more than 42 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar. The menu includes green mango, watermelon, papaya, coconut water and sugarcane juice. Besides, the zoo has put straw thatching over the roofs of about 50 enclosures that house birds, primates, lions, tigers, zebra, chimpanzee, orangutans and the reticulated python. The caretakers of the animals and birds are sprinkling water from time to time on the straw thatch roof of these enclosures to keep them cool. A group of officials are also conducting health checkups of the animals and birds several times during the day and providing necessary treatment if they find any of them sick. At present Nandankanan Zoo is home to more than 1,580 animals, including 634 mammals, 812 birds and 134 reptiles.

केन्द्रीय श्रम और रोजगार मंत्री मल्लिकार्जुन खडगे ने कहा है कि खनन सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने और अवैध खनन को रोकने के लिए 1932 के खनन अधिनियम में 32 संशोधन किये जा रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इस अधिनियम के तहत सुनिश्चित किया जा सकेगा कि खदान मालिक सभी ऐहतियाती उपाय करें।

पाकिस्तान में गोलीबारी की घटना में कराची स्थित दूतावास के पास एक सउदी राजनयिक मारा गया। सउदी दूतावास के हवाले से करांची पुलिस ने मृतक की पहचान हसन अल खतानी के रूप में की है। पुलिस के अनुसार सउदी राजनयिक जब अपने वाहन से जा रहे थे, रास्ते में मोटरसाइकिल सवार दो व्यक्तियों ने उन पर गोलियों की बौछार कर दी और भाग खड़े हुए।

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today took stock of the country's comprehensive security scenario with the military top brass in New Delhi. At the meeting, the armed forces' preparedness to meet any security challenge that may be posed by terror networks in the region and conventional threats from Pakistan's armed forces came up for review. According to defence sources, the Prime Minister was briefed on the overall security measures and the general preparedness of the defence forces. Issues like changing security situation in Pakistan and the situation along the Sino-Indian border were also discussed.
The 90-minute security review at the Prime Minister's residence was attended by Defence Minister A K Antony, National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon, the three service chiefs, Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar and DRDO Chief V K Saraswat. The Prime Minister's review comes two days after he returned from Kabul, where he had discussed the latest post Osama developments in the region with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai.The Indian Army has also raised its alertness level in the wake of reports that Pakistan may try to infiltrate militants into Jammu and Kashmir. It has also raised an alarm over Chinese military personnel's presence in Pakistani Kashmir.

AIADMK Supremo Ms. Jayalalithaa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today. At a colourful ceremony at the Madras University Centenary auditorium the Tamil Nadu Governor Mr. Surjeet Singh Barnala administered the oath of office. The CPI(M) has ruled out any change in leadership following the poll debacle in West Bengal and Kerala and decided to conduct a detailed review of the poll outcome. Briefing reporters after a meeting of the Polit Bureau in New Delhi, the CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat rubbished media reports that outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has offered to quit the Polit Bureau. He said, Mr. Bhattacharjee did not attend today's meeting as a senior leader is required to remain present in the state because of the volatile situation. Mr. Karat said, that after the review conducted by the State Committees, the Central Committee will finalise the Election Review report and the steps to be taken to strengthen the party and the movement.

The National Democratic Alliance, NDA, led by senior BJP leader L.K. Advani today met the Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at his residence and demanded recall of Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj for unconstitutional acts. Briefing media persons following his meeting Mr. Advani said that he has also asked the Prime Minister to reject the recommendation of the Governor for imposition of President's rule in the state.
The Karnataka Governor has sent his recommendations to the President for imposition of President's rule in the state after the Supreme Court quashed the disqualification of 11 BJP and five independent legislators by the speaker of the Karnataka assembly in October last year.
Earlier, the senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said the Supreme court judgement quashing disqualification of 11 BJP MLAs is based on the premises that they only wanted to replace the Chief Minister but did not want the government to fall.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka BJP Legislature Party adopted a resolution at a meeting describing Bhardwaj's recommendation as politically ill-motivated and against the spirit of the Constitution. They also demanded to convene the assembly session on second of June. Senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu said that the legislators will be paraded before President Pratibha Devisingh Patil in New Delhi tomorrow to expose the Governor's anti-democratic act.

The CPI(M) today demanded resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister B.S Yeddyurappa in the wake of the Supreme Court Judgement quashing disqualification of the 16 MLAs in the Assembly by the Speaker. Headline inflation in the country fell marginally, to 8.66 per cent in April, on the back of a moderation in the prices of certain food items. However, prices of manufactured products, and of fuel and power continued to climb. Overall inflation, as measured on the basis of the Wholesale Price Index, has been revised to 9.04 per cent for March, from the earlier 8.98 per cent.
According to official data released today, the prices of primary articles, food, non-food articles and minerals rose 12.05 per cent on an annual basis.

In Pakistan, a Saudi diplomat was killed in a shooting near the consulate in Karachi. An official from the Saudi embassy identified the man as a Saudi diplomat. Karachi police named him as Hassan al-Khatani. Police said that the Saudi had been driving a vehicle with diplomatic plates when two motorcycle riders unleashed a hail of gunfire. Inspector General of Sindh Police, Fayyaz Ahmad Leghari said the consulate employee died of multiple bullet wounds on the spot. He said the attackers fled on the motorbike. Reports say, Pakistan's al Qaeda-linked Taliban have claimed responsibility for the killing. Officials said today's attack was the second on Saudi interests in Pakistan's biggest city in less than a week. .

The Supreme Court today pulled up the Income Tax department for not taking timely action against the companies involved in the 2G spectrum scam. The court said, had it not intervened, the officials would have slept over it and the oversees probe would not have proceeded. The court said despite the department coming to know about tax evasion cases in 2008, it started taking action only after March this year after it was directed to file action taken report.

The Supreme Court today sought the response of a Rajya Sabha-appointed panel on allegations by Sikkim High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran that it has exceeded its jurisdiction in probing charges of judicial misconduct and corruption against him. A vacation bench of justices G S Singhvi and C K Prasad sought the three-member committee's response while issuing notice to it on Dinakaran's allegations that the panel has expanded the ambit of the probe beyond what was initially adopted by the Rajya Sabha motion. The bench decided to take the case up for further hearing on Wednesday.
