 असम और केरल में नए मुख्यमंत्री आज शपथ ग्रहण करेंगे।  असम में श्री तरुण गोगोई लगातार तीसरी बार कार्यभार सम्भाल रहे हैं। राज्यपाल जानकी बल्लभ पटनायक तीसरे पहर तीन बजे गुवाहाटी में राजभवन में श्री गोगोई को पद और गोपनीयता की शपथ दिलाएंगे। राज्य में बिमल प्रसाद चालिहा के बाद लगातार तीसरी बार पद्भार सम्भालने वाले श्री गोगोई दूसरे मुख्यमंत्री होंगे।
 उधर, केरल में कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता ओमन चांडी भी आज तीसरे पहर मुख्यमंत्री पद की शपथ लेंगे। तिरुअनंतपुरम में राजभवन में आयोजित सादे समारोह में श्री चांडी के साथ कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व वाले संयुक्त लोकतांत्रिक मोर्चे के छह नेताओं को भी शपथ दिलाई जाएगी।
 पश्चिम बंगाल में तृणमूल कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व में नई सरकार शुक्रवार को शपथ लेगी। राज्यपाल एम.के. नारायणन्‌ ने सुश्री ममता बनर्जी को तृणमूल कांग्रेस विधायक दल का नेता चुने के बाद सरकार बनाने का निमंत्रण दिया। पार्टी अध्यक्ष ममता बनर्जी ने राजधानी में यू.पी.ए. अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी और प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह से मिलकर उन्हें शपथ ग्रहण समारोह में आने का निमंत्रण दिया है। उन्होंने कांग्रेस पार्टी से मंत्रिमण्डल में शामिल होने का अनुरोध भी किया है।

 बिहार में पंचायत चुनाव के दौरान आज दसवें और अंतिम चरण का मतदान हो रहा है। इसके साथ ही राज्य में महीनेभर से चल रही पंचायत चुनाव की प्रक्रिया सम्पन्न हो जाएगी। पुलिस ने चुनाव सम्बन्धी अपराधों के लिए आठ सौ चौंसठ लोगों पर आरोप-पत्र दाखिल किए हैं। इनमें मुखिया तथा जि+ला परिषद के पदों के लिए छह सौ चार उम्मीदवार शामिल हैं।
 हमारे संवादददाता ने खबर दी है कि निष्पक्ष मतदान कराने के लिए कड़े सुरक्षा इंतज+ाम किये गये हैं।

स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव समन्न कराने के लिए हरेक मतदान केन्द्रों पर केंद्रीय अर्धसैनिक बल के जवान को तैनात किया गया है। पुलिस उप महानिरीक्षक नक्सल प्रभावित इलाकों में पूरे हालात पर नज+र रखे हुए हैं। पैसे और शराब के बल पर उम्मीदवार मतदान प्रभावित न कर सकें, इसके लिए पूरी रात छापेमारी अभियान चलाया गया। इस बीच प्रशासन ने मतदान के दौरान गड़बड़ी करने वाले ८६४ लोगों के खिलाफ आरोप पत्र दायर किया है। .......कोर्ट में इन लोगों के विरुद्ध दायर मुकदमों की सुनवाई की जायेगी। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए पटना से कृष्ण कुमार लाल।

 छत्तीसगढ़ के दंतेवाड़ा जिले में कल शाम नक्सलियों द्वारा बिछाई गई एक बारूदी सुरंग के फटने से केंद्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल-सीआरपीएफ के सात जवान मारे गए। विस्फोट में दो लोगों के घायल होने की भी ख्+ाबर है। कोंटा और सुकमा के बीच बोरगुडा गांव के नजदीक नक्सलियों ने पुलिस दल को ले जा रहे एक वाहन को निशाना बनाकर बारूदी सुरंग में विस्फोट किया।
 एक अन्य घटना में नक्सलियों ने कल राज्य के कांकेर जिले में  सड़क निर्माण कार्य में लगे एक ठेकेदार के करीब नौ वाहनों को आग लगा दी।

 ओडिशा में जगतसिंहपुर जिले में पारादीप के नजदीक पॉस्को इस्पात परियोजना के लिए भूमि अधिग्रहण का काम आज शुरू होने की संभावना है। जिला मजिस्ट्रेट और जगतसिंहपुर के कलेक्टर नारायण चंद्र जेना ने बताया कि प्रस्तावित संयत्र के लिए अधिकारी आज किसी भी समय भूमि अधिग्रहण का काम शुरू कर सकते हैं। पर्यावरण और वन मंत्रालय के आदेश के बाद देश में ५२ हजार करोड़ रुपये की विदेशी प्रत्यक्ष निवेश वाली इस सबसे बड़ी परियोजना के लिए भूमि अधिग्रहण का काम नौ महीने पहले रोक दिया गया था। मंत्रालय ने कुछ शर्तों के साथ कुछ ही दिन पहले इस परियोजना को मंजूरी दी है।
 इस बीच, ओडिशा सरकार के इस कदम को लेकर अनिश्चितता बनी हुई है क्योंकि पॉस्को संयुक्त कार्रवाई समिति के बैनर तले परियोजना को समर्थन दे रहे गांव वालों ने भूमि अधिग्रहण की प्रक्रिया में सहयोग नहीं करने का फैसला किया है।

 कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री बी.एस. येदियुरप्पा ने विधानसभा में अपना बहुमत साबित करने के लिए कल शाम नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रपति भवन में राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल के सामने अपने समर्थक विधायकों को पेश किया। वे एक सौ चौदह विधायक और पांच समर्थन पत्र लेकर राष्ट्रपति भवन पहुंचे। ये दावा किया गया कि एक विधायक अस्पताल में थे। उनके साथ भारतीय जनता पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता अरुण जेटली, सुषमा स्वराज, एम. वैंकया नायडू और बड़ी संख्या में समर्थक भी गए थे। भाजपा के अध्यक्ष नितिन गड़करी ने कहा कि राज्य सरकार को बहुमत हासिल है।

 कर्नाटक की विधानसभा २२४ विधायकों की है और २२४ में से एक स्थान रिक्त है और २२३ में से १२२ सदस्यों का समर्थन येदियुरप्पा जी के नेतृत्व में भारतीय जनता पार्टी की सरकार को हासिल है। अगर किसी सरकार का बहुमत है या नहीं है ये विधानसभा के फ्‌लौर पर निश्चित होना चाहिए।
 राष्ट्रीय जनतांत्रिक गठबंधन एन.डी.ए. ने कथित असंवैधानिक कार्रवाई के लिए राज्यपाल को वापस बुलाने की मांग की है।
 लेकिन राज्यपाल हंसराज भारद्वाज ने अपनी सिफारिश को सही ठहराते हुए कहा है कि राज्य में विधानसभा अध्यक्ष और   मुख्यमंत्री की मिलीभगत के कारण संवैधानिक तंत्र ठप्प हो गया है।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी द्वारा राज्यपाल को वापस बुलाओ आंदोलन जोर पकड़ रहा है। वहीं कांग्रेस बीजेपी सरकार को बर्खास्त करने के लिए आंदोलन चला रही है। कल कांग्रेस ने बीजेपी पर भ्रष्टाचार और बहुमत हासिल करने के लिए संवैधानिक प्रावधानों के उल्लंघन का आरोप लगाते हुए विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। वहीं बीजेपी ने जिला मुख्यालयों पर राज्यपाल हटाओ, लोकतंत्र बचाओ आंदोलन किया। आज भी खंड स्तर पर अपना आंदोलन जारी रखेंगे। राज्यपाल ने एक प्रेस विज्ञप्ति में बीजेपी से मामले को सड़क पर न लाने को कहा है। कांग्रेस के राज्य अध्यक्ष जी. परमेश्वर, जनतादल एस. के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष देवगौड़ा और दो स्वतंत्र विधायक कल राज्यपाल से मिले। उन्होंने कहा कि मुलाकात के दौरान कोई राजनैतिक चर्चा नहीं हुई। वे राज्यपाल को उनके जन्मदिन पर शुभकामनाएं देने गये थे। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिये दिल्ली से मैं सुनीता जैन

 उत्तर प्रदेश में प्रदेश कांग्रेस का दो दिन का सम्मेलन आज वाराणसी में शुरू हो रहा है। कांग्रेस के महासचिव राहुल गांधी इसका उद्घाटन करेंगे। कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी कल सम्मेलन के बाद जनसभा को सम्बोधित करेंगी।

प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष रीता बहुगुणा जोशी ने बताया है कि सम्मेलन में किसानों की खेतीहर ज+मीन ज+बर्दस्ती लेने की मायावती सरकार की कोशिश के विरोध में आंदोलन की योजना तय करने के अलावा दो हज+ार बारह के विधानसभा चुनाव की रणनीति पर चर्चा होगी।
 इस बीच, कांग्रेस ने ग्रेटर नोएडा में भट्टा पारसोल गांव के किसानों पर हुए अत्याचार की सी बी आई से जांच कराने की मांग की है। कल नई दिल्ली में पार्टी प्रवक्ता मनीष तिवारी ने आरोपा लगाया कि मायावती सरकार लोगों को उस इलाके में जाने से रोक रही है और तथ्यों को छिपा रही है।

 गर उत्तर प्रदेश की सरकार पाक-साफ है तो जो न्यायिक जांच की मांग है उसको क्यों नहीं मानती, क्यू वहां पर लोगों को जानने की इजाजत नहीं तो खोल दे भट्टा परसौल के रास्ते जाने दे वहां पर पत्रकारों को जब तक भट्टा परसौल के उन वासियों को न्याय नहीं मिलता तो कांग्रेस पार्टी अपनी जंग को पूर्ण विराम नहीं लगाएगी।

 भारत ने कहा है कि ओसामा बिन लादेन के मारे जाने से आतंकवाद के विरुद्ध संघर्ष समाप्त नहीं हुआ है, क्योंकि आतंकवादियों के सुरक्षित ठिकाने अभी मौजूद हैं। संयुक्त राष्ट्र में भारत के दूत हरदीप सिंह पुरी ने आतंकवाद के विरुद्ध संयुक्त राष्ट्र की एक बैठक में कहा कि आतंकवादियों के लिए सुरक्षित ठिकानों का सफाया किए बिना आतंक से संघर्ष खत्म नहीं हो सकता। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत की नज+र में अफगानिस्तान में सुरक्षा और स्थिरता लाने के लिए आतंकवादियों को अलग-थलग करना और जड़ से मिटाना ज+रूरी है। इनमें अलकायदा, तालिबान, लश्करे-तैयबा और ऐसे अन्य आतंकवादी और उग्रवादी गुट शामिल हैं जो अफगानिस्तान के भीतर और बाहर सक्रिय हैं।

 भारत और उजबेकिस्तान के बीच आज नई दिल्ली में तेल, गैस, खनिज, धातु, औषधि निर्माण, सूचना, संचार और प्रौद्योगिकी, हाइड्रो कार्बन, और कृषि जैसे क्षेत्रों में बारह से अधिक समझौते होने की उम्मीद है। प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह और उजबेकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति इस्लाम करीमोव के बीच शिष्टमंडल स्तर की वार्ता के बाद इन समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए जाएंगे। दोनों देश अफगानिस्तान में शांति और स्थिरता पर व्यापक विचार-विमर्श के अलावा क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा पर भी चर्चा करेंगे।
 छह देशों के शंघाई सहयोग संगठन के बारे में भी चर्चा होने की उम्मीद है। श्री करीमोव दो दिन की राजकीय यात्रा पर कल नई दिल्ली पहुंचे। आज राष्ट्रपति भवन में उनका रस्मी स्वागत किया जाएगा।

 उत्तर भारत में जबरदस्त गर्मी पड़ रही है। राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में कल तापमान ४४ दशमलव एक डिग्री सेल्सियस पर पहुंच गया। शहर के अधिकांश हिस्सों में एक से चार घंटे की बिजली कटौती की गई।
 उत्तर प्रदेश में तेज आंधी के कारण महाराजगंज और सिद्धार्थ नगर जिलों में ६ लोगों की मौत हो गई। राज्य में झांसी सबसे गरम रहा जहां ४६ डिग्री सेल्सियस तापमान रिकॉर्ड किया गया।

पूरे प्रदशे में पिछले दो दिनों से पड़ रही तेज+ गर्मी से सामान्य जन-जीवन अस्तव्यस्त हो गया है। दिन में हो रही तेज+ धूप के कारण लोग घरों के भीतर ही रहना पसंद कर रहे हैं। हालांकि कल पूर्वी जिलों के कई स्थानों पर कल धूल भरी आंधी आने के साथ-साथ हल्की वर्षा हुई। गोरखपुर में न्यूनतम तापमान ३८.२ डिग्री सेल्सियस रहा जो सामान्य से दो डिग्री सेल्सियस कम है। मौसम विभाग ने आज कई पूर्वी जिलों में धूल भरी आंधी आने और गरज के साथ छींटे पड़ने की संभावना व्यक्त की है।

 पंजाब और हरियाणा में भी लू चल रही है। हिसार में कल तापमान ४५ दशमलव दो डिग्री सेल्सियस होने के साथ ही अनेक स्थानों पर तापमान में   बढ़ोतरी दर्ज की गई।

पंजाब, हरियाणा मे बहुत से स्थानों पर मई के महीने में ही तापमान ४१ डिग्री से ऊपर चल रहा है। इस जलती गर्मी के कारण लोग दिन में घरों के अंदर ही रहते हैं, केवल शाम को ही बाहर निकलते हैं। कल शाम बहुत से स्थानों पर धूल भरी आंधी भी चली। आज कई स्थानों पर बादल छाये हुए हैं। चंडीगढ़ में मौसम विभाग का कहना है कि १९ मई के बाद मौसम में कुछ सुधार आयेगा और २२ मई के बाद मानसून से पहले की वर्षा भी हो सकती है।

 इस बीच, कल शाम हिमाचल प्रदेश और आस-पास के इलाकों में भारी वर्षा और ओले पड़ने के कारण तापमान में गिरावट आ गई।
 राजस्थान में चूरू में ४८ दशमलव ६ डिग्री सेल्सियस के साथ तापमान सबसे अधिक रहा जो सामान्य से आठ डिग्री अधिक है।

कल चुरू में जहां पारा ४८ डिग्री को पार कर गया वहीं श्रीगंगानगर में ४७ बीकानेर में ४६ और कोटा में ४५ डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया। जैसलमेर और बाड़मेर में भी लू के हालात बने हुए हैं। मौसम विभाग ने आज कुछ इलाकों में बारिश की संभावना व्यक्त की है, जिससे गर्मी में लोगों को थोड़ी राहत मिल सकती है। इस बीच तेज गर्मी के कारण राज्य के कई शहरों और कस्बों में पीने के पानी की किल्लत भी शुरू हो गई है जिसे दूर करने के लिए राज्य सरकार ने जरूरी इंतज+ाम किये हैं।

 अखबारों ने कर्नाटक में राजनीतिक संकट के इर्दगिर्द घूमती घटनाओं को सुर्खियों में दिया है। नई दुनिया ने पहले पन्ने पर रेलमंत्री ममता बैनर्जी के इस्तीफा देने से पहले की व्यस्तताओं को शीर्षक दिया है- पद छोड़ने से पहले पूरा किया एजेंडा, २५ रेल परियोजनाओं को दी हरी झंडी।
  जनसत्ता ने प्रधानमंत्री के आगामी अफ्रीका-भारत शिखर मंच की बैठक में भाग लेने की खबर को शीर्षक दिया है- आतंकवाद और समुद्री डकैतों की समस्या पर होगा विचार।
  अमर उजाला, पंजाब केसरी और हरिभूमि की सुर्खी है- उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्व मंत्री और बीएसपी विधायक को अपहरण और हत्या के मामले में उम्रकैद।
  उत्तर प्रदेश के भट्टा परसौल की स्थिति पर कांग्रेस महासचिव की सक्रियता को आज के अखबारों ने विस्तार से दिया है। हिन्दुस्तान लिखता है- यमुना एक्सप्रेस-वे पर यूपी सरकार को घेरने की कांग्रेस की तैयारी।
  दैनिक भास्कर ने घटती नारी शक्ति शीर्षक से आलेख में कहा है- महिला मुख्यमंत्री बढ़ी लेकिन सदन में संख्या घटी। पत्र ने आंकडों से स्पष्ट किया है कि केरल में सर्वाधिक लिंग अनुपात और साक्षरता है फिर भी महिला विधायक सिर्फ पांच प्रतिशत, तमिलनाडु में छह, असम में लगभग ११ और बंगाल में लगभग १२ प्रतिशत है।
  इकॉनामिक्स टाइम्स ने मुखपृष्ठ पर समझाया है कि तेल का अर्थशास्त्र कैसे काम करता है, पांच रूपये प्रति लीटर की बढ़ोत्तरी आप के लिए बहुत ज्यादा है लेकिन तेल कंपनियों के लिए बहुत कम।

 In Assam and Kerala, the new Chief Ministers will be sworn in today. Tarun Gogoi will assume office for the third time in a row in Assam. The State Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Gogoi at a swearing-in ceremony being organized at the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati at three in the afternoon. Mr. Gogoi was formally elected Leader of the Congress Legislature Party unopposed at a meeting held in the Central Hall of the Assam Assembly in Dispur yesterday. More from our correspondent
 The 77 year-old Tarun Gogoi will take oath as the 14th Chief Minister of Assam today. After Bimala Prasad Chaliha, Mr. Gogoi will be the second Chief Minister to continue at the top post of the State for the third consecutive term. After meeting the Governor J.B. Patnaik at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati last evening, Mr. Gogoi said he will finalize the list of 18 ministers to be included in his cabinet in consultation with the party high command. Mr. Gogoi said first-time MLAs will not be given ministerial berth. In spite, a number of parliamentary secretary posts will be created to accommodate the ministerial position aspirants. Mr.Gogoi announced to offer one ministerial berth for the Congress-ally Bodoland Peoples Front, BPF.  In Kerala, Senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy will be sworn in as the Chief Minister today. Six leaders of the Congress led UDF are also to take oath along with Mr Chandy as ministers in the swearing ceremony to be held this afternoon at Rajbhawan in Thiruvananthapuram. In a neck to neck fight the Congress led UDF had secured a very thin majority to the 140 member Kerala assembly in the recent election. Our correspondent reports that Mr Chandy will be expanding his cabinet by next week.
 For the second time, the popular leader of Congress party and thorough gentleman of Kerala politics is taking oath as the Chief Minister of the state.  Mr. Chandy alongiwht KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala have been instrumental in ensuring victory of Congress-led UDF in Kerala in the recent elections including last month's assembly poll.  The number of ministerial berths and portfolio of the constituent parties of the UDF have been decided after intense discussions yesterday.  The name of the speaker is to be declared later.  Ram Krishna Pillai, AIR News, Thiruvananthpuram.
 In West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress-led new Government will be sworn-in on Friday.  State Governor M.K. Narayanan has invited Mamta Banerjee to take oath as Chief Minister of the state after her election as  leader of the Trinamool Congress Legislature Party. According to a Raj Bhavan release, Governor Narayanan has appointed  Gyan Singh Sohanpal, Protem Speaker of the newly constituted West Bengal Assembly. He will take oath today.
 Preparations are on for swearing in ceremony at Raj Bhawan.  Around 3,000 invitees will be present to witness the oath taking ceremony.  Giant screens have also been installed in and around Raj Bhawan so that commoners can also have a glimpse of the function.  State Governor Mr. M.K.  In Bihar, polling is underway for the tenth and the final phase of Panchayat elections at 504 Gram Panchayats located in 30 blocks of the state amidst tight security. The polling began at 7 am and will continue up to 5 this afternoon. In the Naxal affected five blocks, polling will be up to 3 pm. Seven thousand one hundred sixty eight polling stations have been made for polling. Our correspondent reports that about thirty lakh voters will decide the fate of 52 thousand 188 candidates.
 Jawans of central para military forces have been deployed at every booths to ensure free and fair polls. The Deputy Inspector General of Police are camping in the naxal affected area to oversee the situation. Meanwhile the administration has filed chargesheet against 864 persons including 604 mukhia candidates for their involvement in poll violence.  In Chattisgarh, seven Jawans of the central reserve Police Force, were killed in a landmine blast by the Naxalites in Dantewada district last evening.  Two others are also reported to have been injured in the blast.  The incident took place near Borguda village between Konta and Sukma when the Naxalites triggered a landmine targeting a vehicle carrying the police party.
                     In another incident , Naxalites  torched about nine vehicles of a contractor engaged in road construction work in Kanker district of the state yesterday.

 In Uttar Pradesh, a two-day convention of the state Congress is beginning today at Varanasi. It will be inaugurated by national general secretary of the party Rahul Gandhi. State Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi said that the  convention will discuss the party's strategy for the 2012 Assembly elections, besides planning agitation to protest the high-handedness of the Mayawati government to acquire agricultural land from farmers.

  The Lokayukta in Uttar Pradesh has ordered realisation of about 94 lakh rupees released from the discretionary fund of legislators to educational organisations run by state minister Haj Anis Ahmad Khan alias Phool Babu in Pilibhit district. Lokayukta N K Malhotra has sent a report to Chief Minister Mayawati for realizing the money given to the minister’s educational institutions from the discretionary fund of legislators by flouting norms. He has also recommended a disciplinary action against the then Chief Development Officer of Pilibhit district for releasing the fund ignoring the rules and regulations.

 Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa paraded MLAs supporting his government before President  Pratibha Devisingh  Patil at Rastrpati Bhawan in New Delhi  last evening  in a  show of strength and seeking rejection of the State Governor's recommendation for the imposition of President's rule in the state. Yeddyurappa arrived at Rashtrapati Bhavan  along with 114 MLAs and five letters of support to prove his majority. It was claimed that one MLA was in hospital. BJP stalwarts Sushma Swaraj ,Arun Jaitley, M Venkaiah Nadu  and scores of party supporters accompanied him.
 Meanwhile, the NDA has demanded recall of the Karnataka governor for his so called unconstitutional activities. However, Bhardwaj has defended his recommendation and said that  the Constitutional mechanism has broken down in the state because of collusion between the Speaker and the Chief Minister.
        In a two page Press Communique issued yesterday in Bangalore, the Raj Bhavan explained as to why the Governor recommended the invoking of Article 356(1) in Karnataka. It says that the recommendation was made after examining the judgment of the Supreme Court and its implications and the various other developments in recent months.

 In Odisha, the land acquistion process for the mega POSCO steel project is likely to begin from today near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district. District Magistrate and Collector of Jagatsighpur, Narayan Chandra Jena,  said the officials would resume the land acquisition work in the proposed plant site villages anytime today. The land acquisition work for the biggest Foreign Direct Investment in the country to the tune of  52,000 crore rupees was stopped about nine months ago due to stop work order by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

केरल में वरिष्ठ कांग्रेस नेता ओमान चांडी को आज तीसरे पहर तिरूवंनतपुरम में मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में शपथ दिलाई गई। अब से कुछ देर पहले तिरूवनंतपुरम में राजभवन में कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व वाले यूडीएफ में शामिल अन्य दलों के छह नेताओं ने उनके साथ मंत्रियों के रूप में शपथ ली। ये मंत्री हैं - पी के कुन्हा लिकुटी, के एम मणि, के पी मोहनन, टी एम जैकब, के बी गणेश कुमार और शिबु बेबी जोन। श्री चांडी दूसरी बार केरल के मुख्यमंत्री बने हैं। इससे पहले वे २००४ से २००६ तक राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री थे। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि वे २३ मई को अपने मंत्रिमंडल का विस्तार करेंगे।

असम में श्री तरूण गोगोई आज लगातार तीसरी बार राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री पद की शपथ लेंगे । राज्यपाल जानकी बल्लभ पटनायक गुवाहाटी में राजभवन के दरबार हॉल में दिन में तीन बजे उन्हें पद और गोपनीयता की शपथ दिलायेंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि वकील से राजनीतिज्ञ बने ७५ वर्षीय तरूण गोगोई राज्य के १४वें मुख्यमंत्री होंगे।

बिहार में पंचायत चुनाव के दसवें और अंतिम चरण में कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच मतदान शांतिपूर्वक चल रहा है। लगभग तीस लाख मतदाता राज्य के तीस ब्लॉकों की ५०४ ग्राम पंचायतों के ५२ हजार १८८ उम्मीदवारों के चुनावी भाग्य का फैसला करेंगे। मतदान शाम पांच बजे तक चलेगा, लेकिन नक्सल प्रभावित पांच ब्लॉकों में तीन बजे तक ही वोट डाले जाएंगे।
हमारे पटना संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि मधुबनी, दरभंगा और मुजफ्फरपुर जिलों में गुटों के बीच छिटपुट झड़पों को छोड़कर हिंसा की किसी बड़ी घटना की खबर नहीं है। एहतियात के तौर पर ढाई सौ से ज्यादा लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। इनके पास से ३५ हजार रुपये बरामद हुए हैं। प्रशासन ने चुनावी अपराधों के सिलसिले में ८६४ लोगों के खिलाफ मामले दायर किए हैं। राज्य चुनाव आयोग ने फास्ट ट्रैक अदालतों को ये मामले शीघ्र निपटाने का निर्देश दिया है।

छत्तीसगढ़ के दंतेवाड़ा जिले में कल शाम नक्सलियों द्वारा बिछाई गई एक बारूदी सुरंग के फटने से केंद्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल-सीआरपीएफ के सात जवान मारे गए। विस्फोट में दो लोगों के घायल होने की भी ख्+ाबर है। कोंटा और सुकमा के बीच बोरगुडा गांव के नजदीक नक्सलियों ने पुलिस दल को ले जा रहे एक वाहन को निशाना बनाकर बारूदी सुरंग में विस्फोट किया।
एक अन्य घटना में नक्सलियों ने कल राज्य के कांकेर जिले में  सड़क निर्माण कार्य में लगे एक ठेकेदार के करीब नौ वाहनों को आग लगा दी।

ओड़िशा में जगतसिंहपुर जिले में पारादीप के निकट ५२ हजार करोड़ रूपये की पास्को इस्पात परियोजना के लिए भूमि अधिग्रहण का काम आज सुबह कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच फिर शुरू हुआ। यह काम गढ़ कुजंगा ग्राम पंचायत के तहत पोलांगा गांव में साठ से अधिक सरकारी अधिकारियों के चार दल कर रहे हैं। अब तक कहीं से किसी अप्रिय घटना का समाचार नहीं है। हालांकि पास्को प्रतिरोध संघर्ष समिति बलितूथा के निकट एक विशाल विरोध रैली निकाल रही है।
इस परियोजना के लिए भूमि अधिग्रहण की प्रक्रिया पिछले वर्ष छह अगस्त को पर्यावरण और वन मंत्रालय के काम रोकने के आदेश के बाद रोक दी गई थी। कुछ दिन पहले देश में सीधे विदेश निवेश की इस सबसे बड़ी परियोजना को कई शर्तों के साथ फिर से काम शुरू करने की  मंजूरी दी गई। और ब्यौरा हमारे संवाददाता से -

एक तरफ सरकारी अधिकारी भूमि अधिग्रहण में लगे हुये है। दूसरी तरफ परियोजना का विरोध करने वाली पास्को प्रतिरोध संग्राम समिति ने बलितूथा के पास एक बड़ी रैली का आयोजन किया है। इसमें सीपीआई, सीपीआईएम, आरजेडी और फॉरवर्ड ब्लॉक जैसे पांच राजनैतिक दल के नेताओं ने शामिल होते हुए कहा है कि जगतसिंहपुर की इस प्रस्तावित परियोजना स्थान पर इस्पात फसल नहीं होने देगे। उस तरफ पास्को संयुक्त समिति के बैनर के तले परियोजना को समर्थन दे रहे गांव वालों ने भी भूमिअधिग्रहण में सहयोग नहीं किया है। लेकिन भूमि अधिग्रहण के समय किसी भी तरह का विरोध देखने को नहीं मिला है। अब यह देखना है कि अगले कुछ दिनों में भूमि अधिग्रहण का विरोध करने वाले ग्रामवासियों का रूख कैसा रहता है। प्रकाशदास, आकाशवाणी समाचार, भुवनेश्वर।

योजना आयोग ने प्राथमिक शिक्षा और साक्षरता पर कार्यदल बनाया है, जिसकी अध्यक्षता मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय में प्राथमिक शिक्षा और साक्षरता विभाग के सचिव करेंगे। यह १२वीं पंचवर्षीय योजना के दौरान शत प्रतिशत साक्षरता के लक्ष्य को हासिल करने के लिए राज्यों को प्रोत्साहन उपलब्ध कराएगा और लिंग, क्षेत्रीय और सामाजिक आयाम पर जोर देते हुए निरक्षरता कम करने के लिए आवश्यक सुझाव देगा।  हमारे संवाददाता का कहना है कि कार्यदल शिक्षा सूचकों में बदलाव और शिक्षा निर्देशिका की समीक्षा के लिए सलाह देगा, जो जमीनी हालात को दर्शाए। कार्यदल अनुसूचित जातियों, जनजातियों, अन्य पिछड़े वर्गों, अल्पसंख्यकों को ध्यान में रखकर बनाए गए कार्यक्रमों तथा बालिका शिक्षा की समीक्षा करेगा। इसके अलावा यह गरीब छात्रों को बेहतर शिक्षा उपलब्ध कराने के लिए वैकल्पिक प्रणाली शुरू करने की संभावनाओं के बारे में भी सलाह देगा।

गृह सचिव जी के पिल्लै ने कहा है कि उनका मंत्रालय पाकिस्तान को सौंपी गई पचास सबसे वांछित आतंकवादियों की सूची में हुई गड़बडी की जिम्मेदारी स्वीकार करता है। इस सूची में मुम्बई आतंकी हमलों के एक ऐसे आरोपी का नाम शामिल था जो ठाणे में रहता है। कल शाम नई दिल्ली में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री पिल्लै ने कहा कि इसके लिए एक दूसरे पर आरोप प्रत्यारोप लगाने का कोई मतलब नहीं हैं। लेकिन उन्होंने कहा कि इसके लिए केवल मुम्बई पुलिस को ही दोषी नहीं ठहराया जा सकता। श्री पिल्लै ने कहा कि इस गड़बड़ी से पाकिस्तान से वांछित आतंकवादी को सौंपे जाने की भारत की मांग पर कोई असर नहीं पड़ेगा।

झारखंड में राज्य संयुक्त इंजीनियरिंग और मेडिकल प्रवेश परीक्षा के प्रश्नपत्र लीक होने की घटना के बारे में तथ्य जुटाने के लिए पुलिस रांची के विभिन्न भागों में छापे मार रही है। हमारे रांची संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि प्रशासन को सूचना मिली थी कि आज होने वाली परीक्षा के लिए पांच से सात लाख रूपये में प्रश्नपत्र और उसके उत्तर बेचे जा रहे थे।

भारत और उजबेकिस्तान के बीच २० करोड़ अमरीकी डॉलर के व्यापार समझौतों के अलावा अनेक महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रों में समझौता ज्ञापनों पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए हैं। आज नई दिल्ली में भारत यात्रा पर आए उजबेक राष्ट्रपति इस्लाम करीमोफ और प्रधानमंत्री डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह के बीच शिष्टमंडल स्तर की बातचीत के बाद इन पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए। इनमें तेल और गैस, हाइड्रोकार्बन, खनिज और धातु, औषधि, सूचना और संचार प्रौद्योगिकी तथा कृषि जैसे महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्र शामिल हैं। सूत्रों के अनुसार क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा और अफगानिस्तान में शांति तथा स्थिरता लाने पर भी चर्चा हुई।
नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रपति भवन के प्रांगण में रस्मी स्वागत के बाद श्री करीमोफ ने कहा कि भारत उभरती हुई शक्ति है और अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय मामलों में उसकी सहभागिता बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। श्री करीमोफ ने विस्तारित संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद में भारत की सदस्यता की पुरजोर वकालत की।

कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री बी एस येदीयुरप्पा और राज्यपाल हंसराज भारद्वाज आज बंगलौर में कर्नाटक लोक सेवा आयोग के हीरक जयन्ती समारोह में एक ही मंच पर दिखाई दिये। समारोह से अलग संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में राज्यपाल हंसराज भारद्वाज ने कहा कि केन्द्र सरकार को विशेष रिपोर्ट भेजकर उन्होंने अपनी संवैधानिक जिम्मेदारी पूरी की है और यह श्री येदियुरप्पा के खिलाफ कुछ भी व्यक्तिगत नहीं है। समारोह में भी राज्यपाल ने मुख्यमंत्री की कड़े परिश्रम के लिए सराहना की। उन्होंने कहा कि मुख्यमंत्री को बहुमत प्राप्त है लेकिन कर्नाटक में राष्ट्रपति शासन की उनकी सिफारिश उच्चतम न्यायालय द्वारा की गई संवैधानिक टिप्पणियों पर आधारित है। मीडिया की इन खबरों को खारिज करते हुए कि वे त्यागपत्र देंगे। राज्यपाल ने कहा कि वे ऐसा नहीं करेंगे और पांच वर्ष के लिए राज्यपाल के रूप में अपना काम करते रहेंगे। उन्होंने भेदभावपूर्ण रवैया अपनाने के आरोपों को खारिज किया और कहा कि वे सभी को बराबर समझते हैं और संविधान के अनुसार काम करते हैं। भाजपा के सूत्रों ने कहा है कि मुख्यमंत्री आज शाम चार बजे राजभवन जायेंगे और दो जून से विधानसभा अधिवेशन के लिए राज्यपाल की मंजूरी मांगेगे। वे इसे अपनी सरकार के शक्ति प्रदर्शन के रूप में नहीे पेश करेंगे।

भारत ने एड्स का टीका विकसित करने के प्रति अपनी वचनबद्धता दोहराई है। विश्व एड्स टीका दिवस पर आज एक बयान में केन्द्रीय विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्री पवन कुमार बंसल ने टीके विकसित करने और उनके परीक्षण के लिए नए तरीके खोजने की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि एड्स के टीके विकसित करने के रास्ते में आने वाली वैज्ञानिक चुनौतियों के हल के लिए वैश्विक भागीदारी जरूरी है। श्री बंसल ने कहा कि युवा और उत्साही वैज्ञानिकों की नई पीढ़ी को प्रशिक्षण देने की जरूरत है जो एड्स के टीके विकसित करने के प्रति समर्पित हो।
हमारे संवाददाता का कहना है कि पिछले तीन दशकों के दौरान विश्व में ६० करोड़ से अधिक लोग एचआईवी से प्रभावित हुए हैं और लगभग ३० लोगों की मौत हुई है।

मुंबई में कल रात की गोलीबारी के मामले में गिरफ्तार दो अभियुक्तों को मझगांव अदालत ने इस महीने की २६ तारीख तक पुलिस हिरासत में भेज दिया है। उनकी पहचान २९ वर्षीय सैयद अली और २७ वर्षीय इन्द्र खत्री के रूप में की गई है। अली, मुम्ब्रा का और खत्री, शायद नेपाल का रहने वाला है। सरकारी वकील ने बताया कि इन दोनों पर भारतीय दण्ड संहिता और शस्त्र कानून की धाराओं के तहत अभियोग लगाया गया है।
इस बीच, मुंबई पुलिस ने दावा किया है कि दक्षिण मुंबई में गोलीबारी की घटना के समय माफिया सरगना दाउद इब्राहीम का भाई इकबाल कासकर वहां मौजूद नहीं था। इस घटना में उसका अंगरक्षक मारा गया था। मुंबई में पुलिस उपायुक्त राजकुमार वाटकर ने संवाददाताओं को बताया कि अभियुक्तों से पूछताछ की जा रही है और जांच चल रही है।

उत्तर भारत मंें भीषण गर्मी पड़ रही है। उत्तरप्रदेश में गर्मी के कारण जनजीवन प्रभावित है। तापमान सामान्य से चार डिग्री सेल्सियस ज्यादा हो गया है। सिद्धार्थ नगर और महाराजगंज जिलों में जबर्दस्त गर्मी से छह लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई है। झांसी राज्य का सबसे बड़ा गर्म स्थान रहा। वहां तापमान ४७ डिग्री सेल्सियस से अधिक रिकार्ड किया गया। हमारे गोरखपुर संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि गर्मी बढ़ने से राज्य में बिजली की मांग भी बढ़ गई है।

मध्यप्रदेश के अधिकतर हिस्सों में जबर्दस्त गर्मी के कारण जनजीवन पर असर पड़ा है। हमारे भोपाल संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि पिछले २४ घंटों में खजुराहो ४७ डिग्री सेल्सियस डिग्री तापमान के साथ राज्य का सबसे गर्म स्थान रहा।

पिछले तीन दिनों से उत्तरी और पश्चिमी मध्यप्रदेश में तापमान ४४ से ४६ डिग्री सेल्सियस रिकार्ड किया जा रहा है। राजधानी भोपाल में तापमान ४४ डिग्री तक पहुंच गया है। यहां लोगों द्वारा सूरज के कहर से बचने के लिए सभी सुरक्षा उपाय किये जाने के बाद भी गर्मी महसूस की जा रही है। मौसम विभाग का कहना है कि आने वाले दिनों में भी तापमान में गिरावट की कोई संभावना नहीं है। शारिक नूर, आकाशवाणी समाचार, भोपाल।

राजस्थान में चूरू में ४८ दशमलव ६ डिग्री सेल्सियस के साथ तापमान सबसे अधिक रहा जो सामान्य से आठ डिग्री अधिक है।

राष्ट्रीय राजधानी दिल्ली में पारा ४० डिग्री सेल्सियस के आस-पास है। आज सुबह न्यूनतम तापमान सामान्य से ६ डिग्री अधिक, तीस दशमलव सात डिग्री सेल्सियस था। कल मौसम का सबसे अधिक तापमान ४४ दशमलव एक डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया। आज का अधिकतम तापमान ४२ डिग्री और न्यूनतम ३१ डिग्री के आस-पास रहने की संभावना है। मौसम विभाग के अनुसार अभी कुछ दिनों तक दिल्लीवासियों को भीषण गर्मी से राहत मिलने की कोई उम्मीद नहीं है।

विशाखापट्टनम में आई.एन.एस. अरिहंत के ड्राईडॉक में एक गंभीर दुर्घटना में चार नौसेना कर्मियों की मृत्यु होने और आठ के घायल हो जाने की खबर है। डाईडॉक में एक विस्फोट के बाद अचानक पानी भर गया। प्रारंभिक खबरों में बताया गया है कि इससे परमाणु ऊर्जा चालित पनडुबी आई.एन.एस अरिहंत को कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ है और उसका रियक्टर सामान्य ढंग से काम कर रहा है। ब्यौरे की प्रतीक्षा है।

राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग ने असम के कोकराझार जिले में कथित टोने-टोटके करने वाली महिलाओं के विरूद्ध हिंसा की घटनाओं पर पुलिस से चार सप्ताह के अंदर रिपोर्ट पेश करने को कहा है। आयोग के पैनल ने इस बारे में कोकराझार के पुलिस अधीक्षक के पास एक शिकायत भेजी है और उनसे कार्रवाई रिपोर्ट देने को कहा है। एक वकील और मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता ने शिकायत की थी कि जिले में १५ अप्रैल से अब तक कथित रूप से टोना-टोटका करने की वज+ह से चार महिलाओं की हत्या की जा चुकी है।
इस तरह की बढ़ती घटनाओं से चिंतित पुलिस महानिदेशक शंकर बरूआ ने हाल में कहा था कि समस्या से निपटने के लिए पुलिस, राज्य महिला आयोग और गैर-सरकारी संगठनों को मिलकर काम करना होगा।
राष्ट्रीय अपराध रिकॉर्ड ब्यूरो के अनुसार वर्ष २००८ में झारखण्ड, हरियाणा, आन्ध्र प्रदेश, ओड़िशा, मध्यप्रदेश और छत्तीगढ़ सहित विभिन्न राज्यों से टोने-टोटके से जुड़ी हत्याओं के १७५ मामले सामने आए थे।

केन्द्रीय कार्मिक और प्रशिक्षण विभाग ने लोक प्रशासन में उत्कृष्टता के लिए प्रधानमंत्री पुरस्कार के वास्ते नाम आमंत्रित किए हैं। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार केन्द्र और राज्य सरकारों के सभी अधिकारी व्यक्तिगत रूप से या समूह में अथवा संगठन के तौर पर इसके पात्र होंगे। यह पुरस्कार केन्द्र और राज्य सरकार के अधिकारियों द्वारा किए गए विशिष्ट और अभिनव कार्यों के लिए दिया जाता है।

वाणिज्य राज्यमंत्री ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया ने कहा है कि निर्यात में बढ़ोतरी के लिए स्थिर नीति व्यवस्था जरूरी है। वे आज नई दिल्ली में ई पी सी ई एस निर्यात पुरस्कार प्रदान करने के बाद पत्रकारों से बात कर रहे थे।

विश्व संग्रहालय दिवस के अवसर पर आज देश के सभी प्रमुख संग्रहालयों में प्रवेश निःशुल्क कर दिया गया है। यह दिवस विश्वभर में विकास में संग्रहालयों की भूमिका के बारे में लोगों में जागरूकता पैदा करने के लिए मनाया जाता है। इसकी शुरुआत १८ मई १९७७ में की गई थी और इस वर्ष का विषय है- संग्रहालय तथा स्मृतियां। भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण विभाग के तहत देश में ४० से अधिक संग्रहालय हैं।
अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय परिषद का कहना है कि संग्रहालय में ऐसी अनेक चीजें सुरक्षित रखी जाती हैं जो मानव सभ्यता की याद दिलाती हैं। परिषद ने कहा है कि ंसंग्रहालयों में रखी गई वस्तुएं प्रकृति और सांस्कृतिक धरोहरों को प्रदर्शित करती हैं।

बम्बई शेयर बाजार के शुरूआती कारोबार में आज सेन्सेक्स में ७८ अंकों की वृद्धि हुई। पिछले लगातार दो सत्रों में सेन्सेक्स ३९४ अंकों की गिरावट आई थी। अब से कुछ देर पहले यह ५३ अंक की वृद्धि के साथ १८ हजार ८३ पर था।
नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी २३  अंक गिरकर ५ हजार ४१४ पर है।
अन्तरबैंक विदेशी मुद्राबाजार में आज रूपया डॉलर के मुकाबले ९ पैसे मजबूत हुआ। एक डॉलर की कीमत ४५ रूपये ६ पैसे बोली गयी।
उधर एशियाई बाजारों में कच्चा तेल महंगा हुआ। जून की डिलीवरी के लिए न्यूयॉर्क का लाइट स्वीट क्रूड ८० सेंट महंगा होकर ९७ डॉलर ७१ सेंट प्रति बैरल हो गया। लंदन के ब्रेंट नॉर्थ सी क्रूड की कीमत में भी ५७ सेंट की वृद्धि हुई और एक बैरल ११० डॉलर ५६ सेंट का बोला गया

अफगानिस्तान में ताखर प्रान्त के उत्तरी शहर तालोकान में सैंकड़ों लोगों ने कल रात की नाटो की बमबारी के विरोध में प्रदर्शन किया। बमबारी में चार लोग मारे गए थे, प्रदर्शनकारियों का कहना है कि वे नागरिक थे। प्रदर्शनकारी दो महिलाओं और पुरुषों के शव लिए हुए थे और उन्होंने अफगान राष्ट्रपति और अमरीका के खिलाफ नारे भी लगाए। पुलिस ने उस समय गोली चलाई, जब प्रदर्शनकारियों ने पुलिस मुख्यालय और एक जर्मन सैन्य ठिकाने पर पथराव किया। फायरिंग में तीन लोग घायल हो गए। नैटो ने एक बयान में कहा है कि उसके हमले में चार आतंकवादी मारे गए हैं, जबकि ताखर प्रान्त के गवर्नर अब्दुल जबार ने कहा है कि नैटो ने हमले के बारे में सरकार को कोई सूचना नहीं दी थी और उसकी यह कार्रवाई एकतरफा थी।

मिस्र के सरकारी मीडिया अहराम ने खबर दी है कि अपदस्थ राष्ट्रपति हुस्नी मुबारक ने एक पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर कर, देश में अपनी सभी संपत्तियों और परिसंपत्तियों का दावा छोड़ दिया है। मुबारक इन दिनों शर्म-अल-शेख के सलाम अस्पताल में नजरबंद हैं। उन पर भ्रष्टाचार और आपराधिक जांच के मामले चल रहे हैं। उन पर यह भी आरोप है कि मिस्र में क्रांति के पहले कुछ दिनों के दौरान उन्होंने प्रदर्शनकारियों की हत्या करवाई।
मुबारक की पत्नी सुजै+न थाबित को इसी तरह के पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर के बाद रिहा कर दिया गया था।

नेपाल की राजधानी काठमांडू में डी ए वी स्कूल ने बी पी कोइराला फाउंडेशन के सहयोग से दो दिन का देवनागरी जागरण सम्मेलन  आयोजित किया है। काठमांडू में भारतीय दूतावास में डिप्टी चीफ ऑफ मिशन जयदीप मजूमदार ने इसका उद्घाटन करते हुए आशा व्यक्त की कि सम्मेलन से न केवल देवनागरी लिपि के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ेगी, बल्कि इससे भारत और नेपाल के संबंध भी मजबूत होंगे। हिंदी, संस्कृत, नेपाली और पाली भाषाएं देवनागरी लिपि में लिखी जाती हैं। श्री मजूमदार ने कहा कि भारत ने संस्कृत और नेपाली को संविधान की आठवीं अनुसूची में शामिल किया है।
काठमांडू संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि सम्मेलन के दौरान हिन्दी, नेपाली, संस्कृत और पाली में कई प्रतियोगिताएं आयोजित की गई हैं, जिनमें नेपाल के ६० स्कूल भाग ले रहे हैं।

In Kerala,  Senior Congress Leader Oommen Chandy has been sworn in as Chief Minister of Kerala for the second time.  In Assam, Tarun Gogoi will take oath this afternoon as the Chief Minister of the State for a third consecutive time. State Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the new Chief Minister at the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati at 3 pm. Our correspondent reports that the 75-year-old lawyer-turned politician Tarun Gogoi will be sworn-in as the 14th Chief minister of the state.
 Born on first April, 1936 at Rangajan in Jorhat district of Assam, a veteran Congressman Mr. Tarun Gogoi is taking the charge of the State as the Chief Minister today. He has been the Chief Minister of the State for the third term in a row since 17th May, 2001. On being re-elected as the CLP leader, Mr. Gogoi admitted that he would face a tough time to pick up 18 ministers among the 90 legislators comprising 78 from Congress and 12 from its BPF ally. In Karnataka, Chief Minister Yeddyurappa is gearing up to stage another show of strength of the BJP government in the state before the Raj Bhavan in Bangalore this evening. Yeddyurappa had staged a similar parade of MLAs at before the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi yesterday. Our  correspondent reports that the BJP has sought time to meet the governor, and the governor has asked the delegation to meet him at 4.00 pm today. This will be the first meeting of Yeddyurappa with Governor Bhardwaj after the latter dispatched a special report to the Centre recommending imposition of President’s rule in the State.
A two page Press Communique issued by Raj Bhavan yesterday in Bangalore, explained as to why the Governor recommended invoking of Article 356(1) on imposition of President's rule in Karnataka. The Communique said, the recommendation was made after examining the judgment of the Supreme Court and its implications and the various other developments in the recent months. The Communique further substantiates that intervention is called for whenever there is breakdown of constitutional mechanism in the state. It states that the actual breakdown is due to tampering with the composition of the Legislative Assembly in unconstitutional manner as mentioned by the Supreme Court verdict.
Meanwhile the agitation by the BJP to recall the Governor and the counter agitation by the Congress to sack the BJP Government has intensified in the state. Yesterday the Congress organized protests charging the BJP of corruption and subversion of constitution to gain majority. The BJP on the other hand held ‘Governor hatao-democracy bachao’ agitation in all the district headquarters.

In Bihar, the tenth and the final phase of Panchayat elections is progressing peacefully amidst tight security arrangements. Elections are being held at 504 Gram Panchayats spread in 30 blocks of the state. Polling will continue till 5 in the evening, however in Naxal affected five blocks, the polling will end at 3 pm. Our correspondent reports that moderate voter turnout has been reported since morning due to the intense heat. There was no reports of major incidents of violence barring a few skirmishes between rival groups in Madhubani, Darbhanga and Muzaffapur districts. Over two hundred fifty persons have been arrested as a preventive measure. 35 thousand rupees were recovered from the possession of arrested persons. About thirty lakh voters will decide the fate of 52 thousand 188 candidates.
Meanwhile, the administration has filed chargesheets against 864 persons including 604 candidates for mukhia and zila parishad posts in connection with poll related offences during the panchayat election. The State Election Commission has instructed to start speedy trial against these persons in the fast track court.

Trade agreements  worth over 200 million US dollars besides several other MoUs in strategic sectors have been signed between India and Uzbekistan. These were signed  following the delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the visiting Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov in New Delhi today. The important sectors include oil and gas, hydrocarbons,minerals and metals, pharmaceuticals, information and communication technology, besides, agriculture, cotton and other fields.  Both the countries  also discussed bilateral,regional and international issues of mutual concern. According to sources ,the security scenario in the region besides ways and means to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan was also discussed.
Speaking at the ceremonial reception at the forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi this morning, Mr.Karimov  said that India is a growing power and India's participation in the global affairs is of vital importance. Mr. Karimov strongly pleaded for India's membership in the expanded UN Security Council.      
Mr. Karimov  arrived in New Delhi last evening on a two-day state visit.  He will also call on the Vice President and the leader of opposition. President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will host a banquet in his honour later in the evening.

In Odisha, land acquisition work for the 52,000 crore rupee, Posco steel project near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district resumed this morning amidst tight security. The work is being undertaken by four teams comprising over 60 government officials at Polanga village under Gada Kujanga gram panchyat. No untoward incidents have so far been reported even as the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), an anti-Posco project body, is holding a massive protest rally near Balitutha, the gateway to the proposed steel project. The land acquisition process was halted on August 6 last year following a stop work order from the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the larges Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) project in the country was given a go-ahead signal a few days ago with a number of conditions. After a gap of about nine months, land acquisition for the Posco project has started peacefully this morning at Polanga in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. Five betel vines were destroyed by the land acquistion officials and cheques of about Rs 8 lakh were paid to the betel vine farmers as compensation. Home Secretary G K Pillai has said that, his ministry has accepted the blame for the goof-up on a Mumbai terror accused being listed in the 50 most wanted fugitives in Pakistan but was found living in Thane. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi yesterday evening, Mr Pillai said there is no blame game. He, however, said that the Mumbai Police can not be blamed at all. Mr. Pillai maintained that the goof-up would not affect India's case seeking handing over of terrorists wanted from Pakistan.

In Mumbai, the two arrested accused in last night’s shootout case have been remanded to police custody today till the 26th of this month by Mazgaon court. They have been identified as 29year old Syyed Ali, a resident of Mumbra and 27year old Indra Khatri, possibly from Nepal. Public prosecutor informed that the duo has been charged under Section 302, 34 of the IPC and Section 3 25, 327 of Arms Act.
Meanwhile, Mumbai police today claimed that Iqbal Kaskar, the brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was not present when gunmen opened fire in south Mumbai last night killing his bodyguard. Addressing media persons in Mumbai today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Rajkumar Vatkar said that Kaskar was not there at the place of firing. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange climbed 79 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 18,216 in opening trade, today, on emergence of selective buying by investors, amid a firm trend on the other Asian bourses. But the Sensex later gave up all its intial gains, and stood 48 points, or 0.3 percent in negative territory, at 18,089, in afternoon trade, a short while ago.  The 30-share Sensex has lost almost 400 points in the last two trading sessions.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a report within four weeks from the police in Kokrajhar district of Assam on several incidents of suspected witch-hunting cases.  The rights panel has forwarded a complaint in this regard to the Superintendent of Police of Kokrajhar and asked him to submit an action-taken report.
The complaint from a lawyer and rights activist  had drawn the Commission's attention to killing of four women in the district since April 15 for allegedly practising witchcraft.
Increasing incidents of witch-hunting have caused concern in Assam with Director General of Police Shankar Baruah recently saying that the department will join hands with State Women's Commission and NGOs to tackle the problem.
According to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), 175 cases of witchcraft-related murders were reported in 2008 from various states, including Jharkhand, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

In Egypt, the official media Ahram reports that the country’s ousted President Hosni Mubarak has signed a waiver by which he relinquished all his assets and properties in the country. Mubarak is under detention at the Salam Hospital in Sharm El-Sheikh pending corruption and criminal investigations against him. In a statement marking the occasion of World AIDS Vaccine Day today,  Union Science and Technology Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal emphasised the need to stimulate innovation to seek new ways of developing and testing such a vaccine. He said strategic global partnerships should be created to address scientific challenges in the path of the discovery of an AIDS vaccine.
Mr. Bansal said there is need to train a new generation of young and enthusiastic scientists who are willing to dedicate themselves to the discovery of an AIDS vaccine. Six persons have succumbed to intense heat in Siddhartha Nagar and Mahrajganj districts. Jhansi remained the hottest place recording over 47 degrees. In Madhya Pradesh, normal life has been hit badly due to heat wave conditions in most parts of the state. Our correspondent reports that Khajuraho with 47 degrees Celsius remained the hottest spot during the last 24 hours.
Temperatures in northern and western parts of the state are being recorded between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius since last three days. Datia recorded maximum temperature of 46 degrees while Sheopur, Rewa, Gwalior , Guna and Morena recorded maximum temperature of 45 degrees. Capital Bhopal recorded maximum temperature of 44 degrees. During the day people used maximum protection against sun yet they felt the heat very severely. There is no respite in sight as the Met office said that there are no chances of temperatures going down.

Weather man says, Delhites are not expected to get relief from the oppressive heat soon. The maximum and minimum temperatures today are likely to oscillate between 42 and 31 degrees.

असम और केरल में आज नए मुख्यमंत्रियों ने पदभार संभाल लिया है। असम में कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता तरुण गोगोई ने लगातार तीसरी बार राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री पद की शपथ ली। राज्यपाल जानकी बल्लभ पटनायक ने गुआहाटी में राजभवन के दरबार हॉल में उन्हें पद और गोपनीयता की शपथ दिलाई। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि 75 वर्षीय श्री तरुण गोगोई ने राज्य के चौदहवें मुख्यमंत्री का पदभार संभाला है। श्री गोगोई ने कहा की कि उनकी सरकार आर्थिक विकास को बढ़ावा देने, बेरोजगारी दूर करने और राज्य में शांति बहाली जैसे मुद्दों पर मुख्य रूप से ध्यान देगी।

श्री उम्मन चांडी ने राज्य में पेट्रोल की कीमतों में एक रुपये बाईस पैसे प्रति लीटर कमी करने का फैसला किया है।

कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री बी एस येदुउरप्पा ने आज राज्यपाल हंसराभारद्वाज से मुलाकात की और अगले महीने की दो तारीख से विधानमंडल के दोनों सदनों की बैठक बुलाने का अनुरोध किया ताकि ंपूर्ण बजट तुरंत पास किया जा सके। बाद में बंगलौर में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि राज्यपाल ने उनसे कहा है कि वे केंद्र सरकार को भेजी गयी रिपोर्ट के जवाब का इंतजार करें। यह पूछे जाने पर कि उच्चतम न्यायालय की टिप्पणी के मददेनजर क्या विधानसभा अध्यक्ष को बदला जायेगा, श्री येदिरूरप्पा ने ऐसे किसी परिवर्तन से इंकार किया। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री और गृह मंत्री ने उन्हें विश्वास दिलाया है कि राज्यपाल की रिपोर्ट पर वे कोई भी असंवैधानिक फैसला नहीं करेंगे।

विशाखापत्तनम नौसेना डॅाकयार्ड के ड्राईडॉक के एक जल द्वार में गड़बड़ी के कारण हुई दुर्धटना में नौसेना के चार कर्मियों की मौत हो गई है। पानी के अचानक तेज बहाव से तीन कर्मियो की घटनास्थल पर ही मृत्यु हो गयी और एक ने अस्पताल ले जाते समय दम तोड़ दिया। नौसेना प्रवक्ता कमांडर पी वी एस सतीश ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि इस दुर्घटना में नौसेना डॅाकयार्ड में किसी और प्रकार का कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस घटना की जांच के आदेश दे दिये गये हैं।

दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने राष्ट्रमंडल खेल आयोजन समिति के पूर्व अध्यक्ष सुरेश कलमाडी की न्यायिक हिरासत अगले महीने की पहली तारीख तक बढ़ा दी है। सीबीआई के विशेष न्यायाधीश तलवन्त सिंह ने खेल आयोजन समिति के दो अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों- संयुक्त महानिदेशक
ए. एस. वी. प्रसाद और उपमहानिदेशक सुरजीत लाल की जेल हिरासत की अवधि भी अगले महीने की पहली तारीख तक बढा दी है। इन तीनों को राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में टाइमिंग स्कोरिंग रिजल्ट प्रणाली के लिए स्विटजरलैंड की एक कंपनी को बहुत अधिक मुनाफे पर ठेका देने के आरोप में पिछले महीने गिरफतार किया गया था। इस ठेके से सरकार को 90 करोड़ रूपये से अधिक का नुकसान हुआ था। न्यायालय ने आयोजन समिति के पूर्व महासचिव ललित भनोट और पूर्व महानिदेशक वी के वर्मा की न्यायिक हिरासत की अवधि इस महीने की 24 तारीख तक बढा दी है। गिरफ्‌तारी के बाद इन अभियुक्तों के खिलाफ आरोप पत्र दाखिल करने की 90 दिन की अवधि इसी दिन समाप्त हो रही है।

ओडिशा में फूलबनी की त्वरित कार्रवाई अदालत ने वर्ष 2008 के कंधमाल दंगों में शामिल तेरह लोगों को पांच वर्ष के कारावास की सजा सुनाई है। इन पर दो-दो हजार रूपये का जुर्माना भी लगाया गया है।

मुंबई में कल रात की गोलीबारी के मामले में गिरतार दो अभियुक्तों को मझगांव अदालत ने इस महीने की 26 तारीख तक पुलिस हिरासत में भेज दिया है। उनकी पहचान 29 वर्षीय सैयद अली और 27 वर्षीय इन्द्र खत्री के रूप में की गई है।
इस बीच, मुंबई पुलिस ने दावा किया है कि दक्षिण मुंबई में गोलीबारी की घटना के समय माफिया सरगना दाउद इब्राहीम का भाई इकबाल कासकर वहां मौजूद नहीं था। इस घटना में उसका अंगरक्षक मारा गया था।

योजना आयोग ने नगालैंड के लिए वर्ष 2011-12 के वास्ते एक हजार आठ सौ दस करोड़ रुपये की वार्षिक योजना मंजूर की है। यह फैसला आज योजना आयोग के उपाध्यक्ष मोंटेक सिंह अहलुवालिया और नगालैंड के मुख्यमंत्री निफु रियो के बीच बैठक में किया गया। श्री अहुवालिया ने बैठक के दौरान कहा कि नगालैंड विकास की गति तेज करने के लिए सराहनीय प्रयास कर रहा है।

पाकिस्तान के उत्तर-पश्चिमी शहर पेशावर में आज तड़के सुरक्षाबलों के साथ मुठभेड़ में 20 आतंकवादी मारे गए और कई घायल हो गए। स्थानीय उर्दू टी.वी. चैनल डॉन के अनुसार लगभग सौ आतंकवादियों ने शहर के मंजूर शहीद चैक पोस्ट पर हमला किया। सुरक्षाबलों की जवाबी कार्रवाई में बीस आतंकवादी मारे गए। इस मुठभेड़ में दो सुरक्षाकर्मियों की भी मौत हो गई।

पाकिस्तानी सेना की खुफिया एजेंसियों ने अल कायदा प्रमुख ओसामा बिन लादेन की मौत के बाद अलकायदा के अन्य आतंकवादियों की तलाश के लिए व्यापक अभियान शुरु किया है। खुफिया एजेंसियों के अधिकारियों ने कुछ दिन पहले इस्लामाबाद, रावलपिंडी, अटक और झेलम में कई मदरसों पर छापे मारे और छात्रों के रिकॉर्डों की जांच की।

रूस के राष्ट्रपति दिमित्री मेदवेदेव ने कहा है कि उनका देश सीरिया के बारे में संयुक्तराष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद के प्रस्ताव का समर्थन नहीं करेगा। उन्होंने यह नहीं बताया कि संभावित प्रस्ताव को रूस वीटो करेगा या नहीं। श्री मेदवेदेव ने यह भी कहा कि रूस, सीरिया के आंतरिक मामलों में विदेशी हस्तक्षेप के खिलाफ है।

उत्तर प्रदेश के विभिन्न भागों में आज अचानक जोरदार आंधी के साथ वर्षा हुई, जिसमें कम से कम बारह लोग मारे गये और अनेक घायल हुए। सबसे अधिक आठ लोग सिद्धार्थ नगर जिले में मारे गये हैं। विभिन्न जिलों के पुलिस नियंत्रण कक्ष में आंधी से संबंधित घटनाओं की खबरें मिल रही हैं और पुलिस दल घटनास्थल पर भेजे जा रहे हैं।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि इलाहाबाद, वाराणसी, गोरखपुर, कानपुर और राज्य के कई अन्य पूर्वी जिले इस तूफान से प्रभावित हैं।

राज्य के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों खासकर पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश में तेज आंधी से कई इलाकों में जालमाल का नुकसान हुआ है। दोपहर बाद आई तेज आंधी ने कई जगहों पर पेड़, दीवारे और कच्चे मकान गिर गये। कई शहरी इलाकों में जगह-जगह बिजली का तार टूट जाने के कारण विद्युत आपूर्ति में बाधा आई है। वहीं विभिन्न मार्गों पर पेड़ों के गिरने से यातायात भी बुरी तरह प्रभावित हुआ है। संजय प्रताप सिंह आकाशवाणी समाचार इलाहाबाद।

टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम घोटाले की जांच कर रही संयुक्त संसदीय समिति-जेपीसी ने आज दूरसंचार मंत्रालय को 1994 से जारी करीब 281 लाइसेंसों की पूरी जानकारी उपलब्ध कराने का निर्देश दिया है । कांगे्रस नेता पी सी चाको की अध्यक्षता में जेपीसी की दूसरी बैठक को दूरसंचार सचिव आर चन्द्रशेखर ने 1998 से 2009 तक की दूरसंचार नीति से अवगत कराया गया। बैठक के पहले सत्र में सदस्यों को वायरलैस सलाहकार अशोक चन्द्रा सहित दूरसंचार विभाग के अधिकारियों द्वारा स्पेक्ट्रम और टेलीफोन के लिए इस्तेमाल किये जाने वाले सिग्नलों के एम्पलीफिकेशन जैसे मुद्दों से भी अवगत कराया गया।

और न्यूयार्क मर्केटाइल एक्सचेंज में कच्चे तेल की कीमत एक डॉलर 49 सेंट बढ़कर 98 डॉलर प्रति बैरल से ऊपर पहुंच गई।

In Assam, veteran Congress leader, Tarun Gogoi took oath as the Chief Minister of the state for the third consecutive term this afternoon. State Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new Chief Minister at the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati.
Talking to media-persons after the swearing-in ceremony, the Chief Minister said, economic development, solution of unemployment problem and restoration of peace in the state, would be his high priority area. Our correspondent reports, the 75-year-old lawyer-turned politician, Mr. Gogoi has been sworn in as the 14th Chief Minister of the state.

In Kerala, Congress led UDF Government has been sworn in with Mr. Oommen Chandy as Chief Minister. Six leaders of constituent parties of UDF, have also taken oath as Ministers. Kerala Governor R.S Gavai administered the oath of office to Mr. Chandy and others. The swearing in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. The former Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan, Central Ministers from Kerala, leaders of prominent political parties and thousands of UDF workers from across the state have attended the ceremony. 68-year old Oommen Chandy is assuming the office of Kerala Chief Minister for the second time. Mr. Chandy will expand his Cabinet next week after consultation with Congress High command .

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, B S Yeddyurappa met Governor H R Bharadwaj today and requested him to convene both Houses of Legislature from June 2nd, to urgently pass the full Budget. Speaking to media persons in Bangalore, the Chief Minister said, the Governor asked him to wait till the Central Government replies to the Report sent by him. When asked whether the Speaker will be changed in the background of Supreme Court strictures, the Chief Minister ruled out any change. Mr. Yeddyurappa also said that Prime Minister and Home Minister have assured him that no unconstitutional decision will be taken on the Governor's report.

In Bihar, an estimated 63 per cent voters today exercised their franchise in the ninth and final phase of panchayat polls in the state. Election was today held at 504 panchayats in 30 blocks of the state. AIR Patna correspondent reports that no untoward incident was reported from any part of the state during today's polls. The state Election Commissioner J K Dutta told that Purnea district recorded the highest voter turnout at 73 per cent, while Nawada district witnessed the lowest turn out at 52 per cent.

The judicial custody of sacked CWG Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi has been extended till the first of next month by a Delhi court. CBI Special Judge Talwant Singh also extended the same jail period for the custody of two other top officials of the Games organising committee - Joint Director General (Sport) A S V Prasad and Deputy Director General (Procurement) Surjit Lal.
The trio had been arrested on the 25th of last month for awarding the lucrative contract to the Swiss firm to install a Timing-Scoring-Result system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games at an exorbitant cost, causing a loss of over 90 crore to the exchequer. The court also extended the judicial custody of Organising Committee's former Secretary General Lalit Bhanot and former Director General V K Verma till the 24th of this month.
Meanwhile, Lal and Prasad moved the court for bail and their pleas will be heard day after tomorrow. Kalmadi too had earlier sought bail from the court, which has reserved its order for Saturday.

Four Navy personnel have been killed in a fatal accident that occurred at Vishakhapatnam Naval Dockyard in Andhra Pradesh, when one of the sluice gates at the drydock malfunctioned. The heavy gush of water killed three personnel on the spot and another reported brought dead to the hospital. Talking to All India Radio, the Navy spokesperson Commmandar P.V.S. Satish said that no damage has occurred to any other asset of the Navy placed at the Naval Dockyard. He said, the Navy has ordered a board of inquiry into the incident for better safe-keeping of Naval assets on the dockyards.
In Mumbai, the two arrested accused in last night’s shootout case have been remanded to police custody today till the 26th of this month by Mazgaon court. They have been identified as 29year old Syyed Ali, a resident of Mumbra and 27year old Indra Khatri, possibly from Nepal. Public prosecutor informed that the duo has been charged under various sections of IPC and the Arms Act.
Meanwhile, Mumbai police today claimed that Iqbal Kaskar, the brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was not present when gunmen opened fire in south Mumbai last night killing his bodyguard. Addressing media persons in Mumbai today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Rajkumar Vatkar said that Kaskar was not there at the place of firing. He said the accused are being questioned and investigations are on.

Congress has reiterated its demand for judicial inquiry into alleged atrocities against farmers and other developments at Bhatta Parsaul village at Gautam Buddha Nagar districts. Inaugurating two day convention of Uttar Pradesh Congress today at Varanasi, party's general secretary, Rahul Gandhi refuted the claims of state government that normalcy was prevailing at the village. He said, if claims of the state government were correct then why it was ignoring impartial inquiry into the incidents. He said that congress will intensify its struggle against state government for exploitation of farmers. Our correspondent reports that on the first day of the convention, detailed discussions were held on 23 resolutions based on several political, social and economical issues.

The convention will be wrapped up by Congress president Sonia Gandhi tomorrow when she is also slated to address a public meeting.

In Uttar Pradesh, sudden storm and rain lashed several parts of the state this afternoon. According to police, at least 12 people have lost their lives while several others injured in the state. Police control rooms in many districts are receiving reports of storm related incident and police teams are reaching to the spot.
Eight people died in Siddharth Nagar district due to the storm while at least two persons died in Ambedkar Nagar district. Our Allahabad correspondent reports that eight people including three women and a child died in Siddarth Nagar district when a tree fell on a jeep passing from Bansi- Basti road.
In another incident, one child was killed in a wall collapse incident in the same district. In Kanpur, a child lost his life when a tree fell on him.
The late afternoon storm affected Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur and many other eastern districts.

In Pakistan, at least 20 militants have been killed and several others injured as some 100 militants attacked a checkpost in the north-western city of Peshawar in the early hours today. The security forces fought back, killing over 20 militants and injuring several others. Two security personnel were also killed in the crossfire.

In Afghanistan, at least 11 people were killed and more than 50 injured today during protest in northern town of Taloqan against the alleged killings of four civilians by NATO-led forces. Police had to open fire to control the mob of around two thousand but it was not immediately clear whether those killed were due to firing from police or from some other source. A police official blamed some opportunists and violence-seeking elements for infiltrating the protests and turning them violent.
