केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमडल ने नकदी संकट से जूझती एयर इंडिया के लिए नौ साल की अवधि में ३० हजार करोड़ के निवेश से कंपनी की स्थिति सुधारने और उसके वित्तीय पुनर्गठन की योजनाओं को मंजूरी दी है। इससे इस एयर लाइन को अपने +ऋणों के पुनर्गठन और अपनी परिचालन कुशलता बढ़ाने में मदद मिलेगी। नई दिल्ली में कल नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री अजीत सिंह ने कहा कि आर्थिक मामलों की मंत्रिमंडलीय समिति ने एयर इंडिया को छह हजार सात सौ पचास करोड़ रुपए की पूंजीगत सहायता की मंजूरी दी है।
केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने नई पेंशन प्रणाली के तहत स्वावलंबन योजना लागू करने के वास्ते सभी अंशदाताओं के लिए धन उपलब्ध कराने की अवधि वर्तमान तीन साल से बढा कर पांच साल करने की भी मंजूरी दी है।  मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक के बाद मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने यह जानकारी दी।

नई पेंशन प्रणाली के तहत अंशदाताओं को ६० साल की आयु के स्थान पर ५० वर्ष की आयु में या २० वर्ष की न्यूनतम अवधि पर योजना की सदस्यता छोड़ने के लिए योजना में ढील भी दी है
केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने सार्वजनिक खरीद विधेयक २०१२ का भी अनुमोदन किया है, जिसमें पचास लाख रुपए से अधिक की सरकारी खरीद को नियमित करने और बोली लगाने वालों के साथ उचित व्यवहार करने में मदद मिलेगी।
एक अन्य फैसले में मंत्रिमंडल ने संसद के बजट सत्र के दौरान जन्म तथा मृत्यु पंजीकरण अधिनियम १९६९ को संशोधित करने वाले एक विधेयक को भी मंजूरी दी। इसमें विवाह का पंजीकरण भी शामिल होगा। मंत्रिमंडल ने आनंद विवाह अधिनियम १९०९ को भी अनुमोदित किया, जिसके तहत सिखों के विवाह के पंजीकरण का प्रावधान है।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि प्रस्तावित विधेयक से महिलाओं को वैवाहिक  तथा भरण-पोषण के मामलों में अनावश्यक परेशानियों से बचने में मदद मिलेगी। श्री सिब्बल ने बताया कि मंत्रिमंडल संसद में एक विधेयक को पेश किए जाने वाले प्रस्ताव को भी मंजूरी दी, जिससे पांच राज्यों की ग्यारह जातियों और समुदायों को अनुसूचित जातियों की सूची में शामिल किया जा सकेगा या निकाला जा सकेगा।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने शिक्षा का अधिकार अधिनियम - २००९ की संवैधानिक वैधता बरकरार रखी है। इसके अनुसार देशभर के सरकारी और गैर सहायता प्राप्त निजी स्कूलों में गरीब छात्रों के लिए २५ प्रतिशत सीटें आरक्षित रखने की व्यवस्था है। न्यायालय ने स्पष्ट किया कि उसका फैसला  कल से लागू हो गया है। इससे पहले हुए दाखिलों पर इसका कोई असर नहीं होगा।
मुख्य न्यायाधीश एस० एच० कपाड़िया, न्यायमूर्ति के० एस० राधाकृष्णन और न्यायमूर्ति स्वतंत्र कुमार की पीठ ने बहुमत के फैसले से कहा कि यह कानून गैर सहायता प्राप्त निजी अल्पसंख्यक स्कूलों को छोड़कर सभी सरकारी और गैर सहायता प्राप्त निजी स्कूलों पर समान रूप से लागू होगा। मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने इस फैसले पर प्रसन्नता व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि इससे स्थिति स्पष्ट हो गई है और सभी विवाद समाप्त हो गए हैं।         
मानव संसाधन विकास राज्यमंत्री श्रीमती डी. पूरनदेश्वरी ने आकाशवाणी के साथ विशेष भेंटवार्ता में कहा कि इसका पालन न करने वाले स्कूलों पर दंडात्मक कार्रवाई की जाएगी।

इनको लागू करना ही पड़ेगा क्योंकि ये जो राइट टू एजुकेशन है, ये ट्वेंटी फाइव परसेंट आरक्षण ही नहीं देते बच्चों को बल्कि हमें यह समझना चाहिए कि हम ऐसे बच्चों को गुणवत्ता विद्या देंगे, जो पिछड़े हुए वर्गों से हों या इक्नॉमिक्ली बैकवर्ड स्टेटस से हों।

केन्द्र ने पिछले वित्त वर्ष के दौरान अल्पसंख्यक छात्रवृत्ति योजना के तहत मैट्रिक के बाद की शिक्षा के लिए सात लाख से ज्यादा छात्रवृत्तियां दीं। इस योजना के तहत पांच लाख छात्रवृत्तियां प्रदान करने का लक्ष्य रखा गया था। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार ५३ प्रतिशत से ज्यादा छात्रवृत्तियां छात्राओं को दी गईं। अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों के छात्रों को ग्यारहवीं कक्षा से पीएचडी स्तर की शिक्षा के लिए यह छात्रवृत्तियां प्रदान की जाती हैं। इस योजना के शुरू होने के बाद से अब तक कुल मिलाकर १८ लाख छात्रों को छात्रवृत्ति दी जा चुकी है।

उत्तर प्रदेश में नवगठित अखिलेश यादव सरकार ने घोषणा की है कि राज्य के सरकारी कॉलेजों में लड़कियों को निःशुल्क इंजीनियरिंग और चिकित्सा शिक्षा प्रदान की जाएगी।
लखनऊ में एक समारोह में मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि सरकार, विज्ञान की शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देने के लिए राज्य भर में सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी पार्क बनाएगी। श्री अखिलेश यादव ने बताया कि उनकी सरकार महिलाओं में शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देने के लिये कन्या विद्या धन योजना फिर से शुरू कर रही है। उन्होंने युवाओं का आह्‌वान किया कि वे नयी प्रौद्योगिकी अपनाएं और उसे राज्य की प्रगति के लिए इस्तेमाल करें।

अखिलेश यादव सरकार राज्य के सभी सरकारी और सरकार से सहायता प्राप्त कॉलेजों में स्नातक स्तर की पढ़ाई छात्राओं को निःशुल्क देने की घोषणा पहले ही कर चुकी है। इसके अलावा हाई स्कूल के आगे की पढ़ाई जारी रखने के लिए प्रत्येक मुश्लिम लड़की को ३० हजार रुपये एक मुश्त देने का भी एलान कर चुकी है। लखनऊ के मशहूर इक्नोवेल कॉर्बोन कॉलेज के १२५वें साल गृह के मौके पर आयोजित समारोह में मुख्यमंत्री ने लड़कियों के छात्रावास के लिए एक करोड़ रुपये दिए जाने की घोषणा की। सुनील शुक्ल, आकाशवाणी समाचार, लखनऊ।

ऐसी खबरें है कि उत्तर कोरिया का लम्बी दूरी का रॉकेट परीक्षण विफल हो गया है। दक्षिण कोरिया और जापान ने कहा है कि यह रॉकेट, छोड़े जाने के तुरंत बाद टूट गया और समुद्र में गिर गया। जापान, दक्षिण कोरिया और अमरीका का कहना है कि रॉकेट परीक्षण विफल हो गया है।
जापान के रक्षा मंत्री नाओकी तनाका ने पत्रकारों को बताया कि उत्तर कोरिया ने आज सुबह रॉकेट छोड़ा जो एक मिनट के बाद ही समुद्र में गिर गया। दक्षिण कोरिया के विदेश मंत्रालय का कहना है कि रॉकेट का मलबा दक्षिणी जेओला प्रांत के गुनसान शहर से तकरीबन १९० किलोमीटर दूर समुद्र में गिरा। उत्तर कोरिया ने रॉकेट के प्रक्षेपण के बारे में कोई टिप्पणी नहीं की है।

पाकिस्तान की संसद ने अमरीका के साथ मौजूदा तनावपूर्ण संबधों को नई दिशा देने के उपायों को सर्वसम्मति से मंजूरी दे दी है। पाकिस्तान ने मांग की है कि अमरीका ड्रोन हमलों पर तत्काल रोक लगाए और नैटो के हवाई हमलों में २४ पाकिस्तानी सैनिकों के मारे जाने की घटना पर माफी मांगे।  पाकिस्तान की नेशनल एसेम्बली और सीनेट की संयुक्त बैठक में पारित प्रस्ताव में पाकिस्तान की विदेशी नीति के बारे में राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा से संबंद्ध संसदीय समिति की १४ सिफारिशें शामिल है।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद ने मांग की है कि सूडान और दक्षिणी सूडान के बीच चल रही लड़ाई तत्काल और बिना शर्त खत्म हो । सुरक्षा परिषद ने दोनों देशों के बीच लगातार बढ़ रहे संघर्ष को अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय शान्ति के लिए खतरा बताया और दोनो ंदेशों से अपील की कि वे अपनी सेनायें वापिस बुला लें। दक्षिण सूडान से हवाई बमबारी रोकने को भी कहा गया है। लेकिन दक्षिणी सूडान ने हेगलिंग से अपनी सेनाएं हटाने से इंकार कर दिया है।

पंजाब में बैसाखी का पर्व आज परंपरागत हर्षोल्लास के साथ मनाया जा रहा है। आज भारतीय पंचांग के अनुसार बैसाख मास का पहला दिन है। इसे सर्दियों के समाप्ति और गर्मियों के शुरूआत भी माना जाता है। आज ही के दिन १६९९ में सिखों के दसवें गुरु गुरुगोबिंद सिंह ने खालसा पंथ की स्थापना की थी। इस सिलसिले में आज राज्य स्तरीय कई कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जा रहे हैं।

आज बैशाखी के अवसर पर खालसा पंथ का जन्मोत्सव मनाने के लिए लोग बड़ी मात्रा में गुरूद्वारों में पहुंच रहे हैं। श्रद्धालु गुरुद्वारों के साथ बने हुए सरोवरों में स्नान आदि कर रहे हैं। सुबह से ही गुरुद्वारों में गुरुवाणी कीर्तन चल रहा है। खालसा के जन्म-स्थान अनंतपुर साहेब, हरमंदर साहेब अमृतसर और भटिंडा जिले के त्रिवन्डी साहबों में बड़ी मात्रा में लोग एकत्र हुए हैं। आज दिन में जगह-जगह लंगरो का भी इंतजाम किया गया है। आज से ही किसान फसल की कटाई शुरू करना शुभ मानते हैं। जसविंदर सिंह रंधावा, आकाशवाणी समाचार, चंडीगढ़।

राष्ट्रपति सचिवालय ने मीडिया की उन ख़बरों को गलत बताया है, जिनमें कहा गया था कि राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने पुणे में सेवानिवृत्ति के बाद अपना आवास बनाने के लिए अपनी पात्रता से अधिक जमीन पर कब्जा किया है। इस संबंध में जारी स्पष्टीकरण में कहा गया है कि यह जमीन रक्षा मंत्रालय की है और यह रक्षा मंत्रालय के पास ही रहेगी। जमीन और मकान, जहां राष्ट्रपति रहेंगी वह सरकार के पास ही रहेगा और इसलिए निजी लाभ के आरोप में कोई सच्चाई नहीं है।
राष्ट्रपति की परिलब्धियां और पेंशन अधिनियम, १९५१ के तहत कार्यभार समाप्ति के बाद राष्ट्रपति, आवास प्राप्त करने का पात्र होता है, इसलिए राष्ट्रपति को सरकारी आवास में रहने की कानूनी अधिकार है और सभी पूर्व राष्ट्रपतियों ने इस सुविधा का लाभ उठाया है।

शिक्षा का अधिकार कानून २००९ को सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा संवैधानिक तौर पर वैध ठहराये जाने की खबर आज के तमाम अखबारों की सुर्खियों में है। बकौल उमर उजाला- आर.टी.ई. को सुप्रीम कोर्ट की हरी झंडी, गरीब बच्चों को बड़ा तोहफा, नंदू, मुनिया भी जायेंगे प्राइवेट स्कूल। हिन्दुस्तान के अनुसार- अमीर स्कूलों में पढ़ेंगे गरीब बच्चे।

The government has approved a Turn Around Plan, TAP and Financial Restructuring Package, FRP with a 30 thousand crore rupee infusion over a nine year period for cash trapped Air
India.  The plan envisages a massive fund infusion into the Airline, debt restructuring and higher operational efficiency.  Briefing the media in New Delhi yesterday, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved an upfront equity support of 6,750 crore rupees to Air India.

"Finally the cabinet has approved the turn around plan, for Air
India and also the financial restructuring package.  Under the turn around plan, the Air India will hive of two subsidiaries, one is for the transport that is basically passenger related and the other would be MRO, Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul.  They will become independent companies fully on subsidiary."
Mr. Singh said, Air
India will also be able to gain further equity for cash deficit support of 4,552 crore rupees till 2021. He said the Airline will also be able to raise equity for the already guaranteed aircraft loan of 18,929 crore rupees till 2021. Mr. Singh said that Air India has been allowed to raise government guaranteed non-convertible debentures of 7,400 crore rupees.

The Union Cabinet has approved introduction of the bill in the ongoing Budget Session to amend the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 to include registration of marriages as well.  Cabinet also approved introduction of the Anand Marriage Act, 1909 to provide for registration of marriages of Sikhs under the act, fulfilling a long standing demand of the community.
Cabinet also approved the extension of funding support for implementing the Swavalamban scheme under the New Pension System, NPS from present three years to five years for all subscribers. Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said the exit norms of the scheme have been relaxed to enable subscribers under Swavalamban to exit at the age of 50 years instead of 60 years, or a minimum tenure of 20 years, which ever is later.

"For that the Cabinet has approved an additional funding of 2065 crores to the Swavalamban scheme upto 2016-17 as government's co-contribution to the subscribers and also for promotional and developmental activities.  Now this will benefit about 70 lakh workers in the unorganised sector till 2016-17."        
The  Cabinet approved Public Procurement Bill 2012 that seeks to regulate public procurement of above 50 lakh rupees and provide fair treatment to bidders. The Bill, likely to be introduced in the ongoing Budget session of Parliament, will not apply to purchases below 50 lakh rupees.

The Supreme Court has upheld the constitutional validity of the Right to Education Act, 2009, which mandates 25 per cent free seats to the poor in government and private unaided schools uniformly across the country. The apex court clarified that its judgement will come into force from April 12 but will only have a prospective affect and not retrospective effect. A three judge bench of Chief Justice SH Kapadia and justices KS Radhakrishnan and Swatanter Kumar said by a majority view that the act will apply uniformly to government and unaided private schools except unaided  private minority schools.

 The Centre has distributed over 7 Lakh Post-Matric Scholarships under Minority scholarship scheme during the last fiscal. According to an official release, over 53 percent of the Scholarships have been given to girl students. It is against the target of over 5 lakh scholarships. The Post-Matric Scholarships are provided to students belonging to the minority communities for studies from class Eleven to Ph.D. level.

Uttar Pradesh government has announced free engineering and medical education for girls in government colleges of the state. Addressing a function in
Lucknow, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said the government will set up information technology parks across the state to promote the science education. More from our correspondent:

"The Akhilesh Yadav government has already announced free education to girls at graduation level in all government and aided colleges. Similarly the government has also already announced to provide 30 thousand rupees to every Muslim girl to continue her education after high school. Addressing a function on 125th year celebrations of the famous Isabella Thoburn college at Lucknow, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav announced 1 crore rupees for the girls' hostel in the college. He announced that his government would revive Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme to promote education among girls. Sunil Shukla, AIR News,

The President's Secretariat has dismissed media report that Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil has grabbed land much in excess of her entitlement to build her post retirement home in Pune. A clarification in this regard said  that the land belongs to the Ministry of Defence and will continue to remain with the Ministry of Defence. The title of the land is not being alienated in any manner whatsoever.

The launch of a long-range rocket by
North Korea appears to have failed. Early reports from Japan, South Korea and the US say that North Korea's rocket launch has failed.  US media reports say there have been a larger than expected flare 90 seconds into the flight.
Japanese Defense Minister Naoki Tanaka  also told reporters the rocket that
North Korea launched this morning fell into sea after flying for more than a minute. The South Korean defence ministry said the wreckage of the rocket fell into waters about 190  kilometers west off Gunsan, South Jeolla Province of South Korea. There is no comment from North Korea about the launch.

Pakistan's Parliament has unanimously approved a resolution for resetting the country's troubled relations with the US. It called for an immediate cessation of American drone strikes and an apology for the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers in a NATO air strike. A joint sitting of the National Assembly and Senate adopted a resolution containing 14 recommendations made by the Parliamentary Committee on National Security for ties with the US and overall foreign policy.

Punjab, the Integrated Check Post, ICP at Attari-Wagah border between India and Pakistan will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram, today.

भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच पहली एकीकृत चौकी - आई.पी.सी आज से पंजाब में अटारी सीमा पर खोल दी गयी है। गृहमंत्री पी चिदम्बरम ने आज शाम अटारी सीमा पर इस चौकी का उद्घाटन करते हुए कहा कि इससे दोनों देशों के बीच व्यापार सुविधा और लोगों का आपसी सम्पर्क मजबूत होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत ने पाकिस्तान के लिए उदार वीज व्यवस्था को अंतिम रूप दे दिया है। श्री चिदम्बरम ने आशा व्यक्त की कि पाकिस्तान भी जल्द ही ऐसा करेगा।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने टू जी स्पेक्ट्रम मामले में अपने फैसले पर सरकार की पुनर्विचार याचिका आज सुनवाई के लिए स्वीकार कर ली। सरकार ने सर्वोच्च न्यायालय से पूछा है कि क्या प्राकृतिक संसाधनों को केवल नीलामी के जरिये निजी कंपनियों को आवंटित किया जाए। न्यायालय ने उन टेलीकॉम कंपनियों की सुनवाई से इन्कार कर दिया, जिन्होंने लाईसेंस रद्द होने के बाद पुनर्विचार याचिकाएं दाखिल की थी। न्यायमूर्ति जी एस सिंघवी और न्यायमूर्ति के एस राधाकृष्णन की खंडपीठ ने
गैर-सरकारी संगठन सेंटर फॉर पब्लिक इंटरेस्ट लिटिगेशन-सीपीआईएल तथा जनता पार्टी अध्यक्ष सुब्रह्मण्यम स्वामी को नोटिस जारी करके उनसे जवाब मांगा है। न्यायालय ने स्पष्ट किया कि नोटिस जारी करने का यह अर्थ नहीं निकाला जाना चाहिए कि संबंधित फैसले के अमल पर किसी तरह की रोक लग गई है। न्यायालय ने कहा कि वह सरकार की पुनर्विचार याचिका पर सुनवाई की तारीख बाद में तय करेगा।

भारत ने न्यूयार्क हवाई अड्डे पर फिल्म अभिनेता शाहरूख खान के रोके जाने पर कड़ी प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त की है। विदेश मंत्री एस एम कृष्णा ने आज कहा कि रोके जाने और फिर माफी मांगना अमरीका की आदत बन गई है, जो जारी नहीं रह सकती और इस मुद्दे को अमरीका में उच्च स्तर पर उठाया जाएगा। भारत ने वाशिंगटन में अपनी राजदूत निरूपमा राव से कहा कि वे इस मुद्दे को वहां के उच्च अधिकारियों के सामने उठाएं। शाहरूख खान, अमरीका के येल विश्वविद्यालय में छात्रों को संबोधित करने के लिए जा रहे थे। एक निजी विमान से हवाई अड्डे पर पहुंचने के बाद उन्हें आव्रजन अधिकारियों द्वारा करीब दो घंटे तक रोका गया और भारतीय महावाणिज्य दूतावास के हस्तक्षेप के बाद उन्हें आव्रजन अनुमति दी गई।

सरकार वर्तमान वित्त वर्ष के दौरान सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों में लगभग १५ अरब रूपये लगाएगी ताकि उनकी वित्तीय स्थिति मजबूत हो सके। वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा कि सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों की पूंजी क्षमता बेहतर बनाने के लिए सरकार वर्ष २०१२-१३ में उन्हें १५ अरब रूपये उपलब्ध कराएगी।

भारतीय रजर्व बैंक - एक हजार रुपये के ऐसे करेंसी नोट जारी करेगा, जिनमें नम्बर क्रम में नहीं होंगे। आरबीआई ने अपनी विज्ञप्ति में कहा है कि एक पैकेट में हमेशा की तरह सौ नोट होंगे। आरबीआई ने पिछले वर्ष जून में पांच सौ रुपये के ऐसे ही नोट जारी किए थे, जिनके नम्बर क्रम में नहीं थे। ऐसे पैकेटों पर लिखा होगा कि इनमें सौ नोट है, जिनके नम्बर क्रम में नहीं हैं।

First Integrated check post, ICP between India and Pakistan was opened today at Attari border in Punjab. Inaugurating the check post, Union Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram said that the ICP will facilitate smooth trade between the two countries apart from strengthening people to people contact. He stated that India has finalised a new liberal Visa regime for Pakistan. He expressed hope that Pakistan will also finalise a similar regime soon.
We have approved the new visa regime, I was told by my counterpart Mr. Rehman Malik. Then very soon Pakistan will approve the visa regime and I look forward to the day when representatives will sign the new visa regime and the new visa regime will become operative.
Our Correspondent reports that the new 150-crore rupees integrated customs check post, has sophisticated equipment to scan entire containers.
The new check post is expected to reduce congestion at Wagah border crossing.
The ICP was inaugurated by the Home Ministers alongwith commerce minister of two countries. Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and his counterpart from across the border ,Shahbaz Sharif, were also present on the occasion.<>
India today said that it will allow Foreign Direct Investment, from Pakistan, paving the way for industries from the neighbouring country to set up businesses in the growing Indian market. After meeting his Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Amin Fahim in New Delhi today, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said that in-principle decision has been taken in this regard.
India has taken in principle decision as part of the process even on economic engagements to allow Foreign Direct Investments from Pakistan and India . The procedural requirements of the process are underway and it will be notified soon.

The Supreme Court today admitted the Government's plea seeking review of its 2G ruling that natural resources should be allotted to private companies only through auction. The apex court however refused to hear affected telecom firms whose petitions for reconsideration of the verdict cancelling their licences were dismissed.
A bench of justices G S Singhvi and K.S. Radhakrishnan issued notices to the NGO, Centre for Public Interest Litigation and Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy, seeking their response on Government's plea seeking review of the February 2 judgement by which the first-come-first-serve policy was held as flawed.
The bench, said it will indicate a date for hearing the review petition in open court. The Court made it clear that the issuance of notice in the matter did not mean a stay on the operation of its directives in the judgement cancelling the licences and asking allocation of spectrum through auction.

Dr. Singh expressed the hope that the new Companies Bill, which seeks to update corporate law and promote Corporate Social Responsibility, will be passed by Parliament shortly.
The Companies Bill presently under consideration of our Parliament, seeks to provide a further fillip to the cause of Corporate Social Responsibility, corporate governance and investor protection. I expect the Bill to be passed shortly.
The new Companies Bill, will replace the Companies Act 1956 and make it mandatory for firms to maintain their documents in electronic format.

A money laundering case has been registered against Vectra chief Ravinder Rishi and his firms by the Enforcement Directorate to probe alleged generation of illegal funds in the defence deal between Tatra Sipox UK and defence PSU BEML.
The CBI has earlier questioned Rishi many times in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Tatra truck supply to the Army.

India has reacted sharply to Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan's detention at a New York airport . External affairs minister S M Krishana said today detention and apology have become a habit with the US which cannot continue and it will take up the matter at the highest level there. New Delhi has asked its Ambassador Nirupama rao in Washington to take up the issue with the highest authorities. On his way to address students at Yale University, Shahrukh was detained by immigration officials for nearly two hours after arriving from India in a private plane and was given immigration clearance after intervention by Consulate General of India .
Agencies quoting official sources report that New Delhi today summoned the US Deputy Chief of Mission to register its protest over the issue.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has stressed the need for change in the working style of zonal cultural centres. Inaugurating the Silver Jubilee celebrations of seven Zonal cultural centres at Panchkula today, Dr. Singh said the report submitted by a committee headed by Mani Shankar Aiyer, has suggested that 70 per cent of the allocated funds should be used to encourage the new talents in villages and slums.

In Kolkata a professor of the Jadavpur University and one of his neighbors were arrested for allegedly circulating defamatory cartoons of West Bengal Chief Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee and some other Trinamool Congress leaders on a social networking site today. The arrest of Ambikesh Mohapatra, a chemistry professor sparked an outrage with opposition CPI (M) and the academic community saying that the police action is highly atrocious and attack on the democratic freedom of expression. The professor was later granted bail by the Alipur Court in the city.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange dropped 238 points, or 1.4 percent, to a 2-week low of 17,095, on heavy selling in IT stocks, amid weak European markets, today. The Nifty slipped 69 points, or 1.3 percent, to 5,207.But, stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore rose between 0.3 percent and 1.8 percent. The rupee appreciated 28 paise, to 51.30 against the dollar. Gold gained 210 rupees, to 29,090 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. Silver jumped 800 rupees, to 56,900 rupees per kilo. Capital market regulator, SEBI today said both public and private sector companies will have to increase public shareholding to a minimum of 25 per cent by August 2013 and there will be no relaxation of the guidelines. The Supreme Court today accepted the recommendations of a Central Empowered Committee, CEC, that no new mining leases should be granted in Bellary, Tumkur and Chitradurga districts of Karnataka unless rehabilitation plans for the existing leases were executed.
