केंद्र सरकार तेलंगाना मुद्दे पर विचार विमर्श  के लिए सर्वदलीय बैठक बुलाएगी। केंद्रीय गृहमंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम ने कल नई दिल्ली में ये बात कही। १८ दिन से भी पहले से जारी तेलंगाना आंदोलन पर चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए श्री चिदम्बरम ने प्रदर्शनकारियों से हड़ताल वापस लेने की अपील की।
मेरी अपील है कि जब आंदोलनकारियों ने अपनी बात निश्चित रूप से कह दी है कि रेल रोको और रास्ता रोको जैसी हड़ताल से राज्य की अर्थव्यवस्था को नुकसान पहुंचता है और इससे लोगों को भारी दिक्कतों का सामना करना पड़ता है सरकार केवल आंदोलनकारियों से यह अपील करती है कि अपना पक्ष रख देने के बाद उन्हें इस विरोध को अनिश्चितकाल तक जारी रखने कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है।
नई दिल्ली में प्रधानमंत्री आवास पर कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी  की अध्यक्षता में कांग्रेस कोर समूह की बैठक में भी अलग तेलंगाना राज्य के मसले पर चर्चा हुई। बैठक में रक्षा मंत्री ए.के. एंटनी, वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी और गृहमंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम सहित पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेताओं ने हिस्सा लिया। पार्टी महासचिव और आंध्र प्रदेश मामलों के प्रभारी गुलाम नबी आजाद श्रीमती गांधी को तेलंगाना मसले पर अपनी रिपोर्ट सौंप चुके हैं।
हमारे संवाददाता का मानना है कि कोर समूह ने इस रिपोर्ट पर चर्चा की। श्री आजाद ने इस रिपोर्ट को अंतिम रूप देने से पहले तेलंगाना, रायलसीमा और आंध्र प्रदेश के तटीय क्षेत्रों से पार्टी के मंत्रियों, सांसदों, विधायकों और विधान परिषद के सदस्यों से अलग राज्य की मांग के बारे में विचार विमर्श किया था।

इस बीच, तेलंगाना क्षेत्र में राज्य सरकार के कर्मचारियों,  सिंगरेनी कोयला खदान के कर्मियों और शिक्षकों की आम हड़ताल के कारण जनजीवन प्रभावित हुआ है। हड़ताल आज १९वें दिन भी जारी है और इसके असर को कम करने के लिए आंध्र प्रदेश सरकार अनेक स्तरों पर प्रयास कर रही है।

तेलंगाना में पिछले १८ दिनों से जारी हड़ताल का असर कम करने के लिए मुख्यमंत्री श्री एन.कुमार कुमार रेड्डी ने अधिकारियों को ५०० अतिरिक्त निजी बसें मंगाने का निर्देश दिया है। इस कदम से राज्य सड़क परिवहन निगम कर्मचारियों की हड़ताल के कारण बंद पड़ी परिवहन सेवा में हालत सुधारने में मदद मिलेगी। कल शाम हुई समीक्षा बैठक में मुख्यमंत्री ने अधिकारियों को जितनी संभव हो उतनी अधिक से बिजली देने का निर्देश दिया है क्योंकि यहां दिन में दो करोड़ ३५ लाख यूनिट बिजली की कमी है। त्यौहारों के मौसम को देखते हुए राशन की दुकानों पर चावल देने के लिए भी कदम उठाए जा रहे हैं। दूसरी ओर आम हड़ताल में हिस्सा रहे कर्मचारियों को सितंबर माह के लिए मात्र तेरह दिन का वेतन दिए जाने की संभावना है।

गुजरात में निलंबित आईपीएस अधिकारी संजीव भट्ट को एक सिपाही द्वारा उनके खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज करने के सिलसिले में कल हिरासत में ले लिया गया। संजीव भट्ट पर डराने-धमकाने, झूठे सबूत गढ़ने और गलत तरीके से जेल भेजने जैसे आरोप लगाए गए हैं। संजीव भट्ट ने उच्चतम न्यायालय में एक हलफनामा दायर करके गुजरात दंगों में मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी द्वारा कार्रवाई न करने का आरोप लगाया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने राज्य पुलिस के हवाले से खबर दी है कि भट्ट को गिरफ्तार नहीं किया गया है, बल्कि पूछताछ के लिए हिरासत में लिया गया है।
२००२ के सांप्रदायिक दंगों के दौरान संजीव भट्ट के दौरान काम कर रहे कांस्टेबल के.डी. पंत द्वारा दायर की गई एफ आई आर के अंतर्गत संजीव भट्ट को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। एफ आई आर के अनुसार संजीव भट्ट ने उन्हें १६ जून को अपने घर कुछ काम से बुलाया था और बाद में फर्जी हलफनामे पर जबरदस्ती से दस्तखत करवाये थे। संजीव भट्ट ने २००२ के दंगों के दौरान ढील बरतने का आरोप लगाते हुए मुख्यमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के खिलाफ एक हलफनामा सुप्रीम कोर्ट में दायर किया था। संजीव भट्ट ने उनकी गिरफ्तारी को राजनीतिक हेतुपूर्ण बताई है, जबकि कांग्रेस ने इस कार्रवाई को मोदी सरकार की द्वेष भावना पूर्ण कार्रवाई बताया है।

इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय ने उत्तर प्रदेश के गौतम बुद्ध नगर जिले के नोएडा और ग्रेटर नोएडा में जमीन अधिग्रहण के खिलाफ दाखिल याचिकाओं पर अपना फैसला सुरक्षित रखा है। राज्य सरकार की ओर से विभिन्न अवसरों पर जारी की गई। करीब ६० अलग-अलग जमीन अधिग्रहण अधिसूचनाओं को जमीन मालिकों ने चुनौती दी है।
न्यायमूर्ति अशोक भूषण, न्यायमूर्ति एस यू खान और न्यायमूर्ति वी.के. शुक्ला की पूर्ण पीठ ने तीन हफ्ते तक लगभग रोजाना किसानों, राज्य सरकार, नोएडा और ग्रेटर नोएडा प्राधिकरणों तथा बिल्डरों का पक्ष सुनने के बाद अपना फैसला सुरक्षित रखा। अदालत ने फैसला सुनाने  की तारीख तय नहीं की है।

शिक्षा की बुनियादी व्यवस्थाओं में निवेश करने वाली विदेशी संस्थाओं को अब विदेशी निवेश प्रोत्साहन बोर्ड की मंजूरी नहीं लेनी होगी। सरकार ने  शिक्षा क्षेत्र को प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश की नीति के तहत लागू प्रतिबंधों से छूट देने का फैसला किया है।
मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने नयी दिल्ली में बताया कि इस फैसले से शिक्षा क्षेत्र को न सिर्फ भरपूर प्रोत्साहन मिलेगा, बल्कि शिक्षा के लिए बुनियादी सुविधाओं में मौजूदा खामियां दूर करने में भी मदद मिलेगी। प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश की नई उदार नीति में शिक्षा संस्थानों के निर्माण में विदेशी निवेश की शर्तों को भी सरल बनाया गया है।

संचार और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने रेडियो स्पेक्ट्रम के प्रभावी प्रबंधन के लिए कल राष्ट्रीय आवृत्ति आवंटन योजना यानी नेशनल फ्रीक्वेंसी एलोकेशन प्लान जारी किया। यह योजना आज से लागू होगी। श्री सिब्बल ने कहा कि रेडियो स्पेक्ट्रम जीवन का महत्वपूर्ण अंग होता जा रहा है, इसलिए इसका तर्कसंगत ढंग से प्रबंधन जरूरी है।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने एक बार फिर कहा है कि वह उत्तर प्रदेश में मायावती के नेतृत्व वाली बहुजन समाज पार्टी के साथ भविष्य में कोई चुनावी समझौता नहीं करेगी। लखनऊ में एक पार्टी समारोह में पार्टी के पूर्व अध्यक्ष राजनाथ सिंह ने कहा कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने बहुजन समाज पार्टी को सत्ता से हटाने का संकल्प लिया है।

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आतंकवादी संगठन अलकायदा का एक सरगना अनवर अल-अवलाकी यमन में अमरीकी हवाई हमले में मारा गया है। यमन के एक  अधिकारी ने सना में बताया कि खाशेफ शहर से करीब आठ किलोमीटर दूर अवलाकी के काफिले को निशाना बनाया गया। इस हमले में अवलाकी तथा तीन अन्य लोग मारे गए। अमरीकी अधिकारियों ने अमरीका में जन्मे अवलाकी को अरब प्रायद्वीप में अलकायदा की बाहरी कार्रवाई का सरगना करार दिया था और माना जा रहा था कि वह यमन में छुपा  है।
अमरीका के राष्ट्रपति बराक ओबामा ने वाशिंगटन में कहा है कि अवलाकी का मारा जाना अलकायदा के लिए बड़ा झटका है ।

इराक में राजधानी बगदाद के दक्षिण में हिला शहर के पास कब्रिस्तान में बम विस्फोट में कम से कम १७ लोग मारे गए और दर्जनों घायल हो गए। यह विस्फोट शाम साढ़े ५ बजे बगदाद से १०० किलोमीटर दूर अलखफाजी में एक शिया मस्जिद के बाहर हुआ। प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों ने बताया कि विस्फोट के समय एक स्थानीय शेख के जनाजे में भाग लेने आये कई लोग मौजूद थे।

भारतीय ओलंपिक संघ ने हॉकी इंडिया और भारतीय हॉकी संघ की मंगलवार को आपात बैठक बुलाई है। इस बैठक में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हॉकी संघ कि इस चेतावनी पर चर्चा होगी कि अगर  भारत में खेल प्रशासन से जुड़े मसले  नहीं सुलझाये गये तो लंदन ओलंपिक में भारत की भागीदारी पर रोक लगा दी जायेगी ।
भारतीय ओलंपिक संघ के कार्यवाहक अध्यक्ष विजय कुमार मलहोत्रा ने नई दिल्ली में जारी बयान में कहा कि इस बैठक में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हॉकी संघ  -एफआईएच द्वारा खेल सचिव सिंधुश्री खुल्लर को भेजे पत्र में उठाए गए मसलों पर चर्चा होगी और कोई सौहार्दपूर्ण हल तलाशने की कोशिश की जाएगी।
एफआईएच ने हॉकी इंडिया और इंडियन हॉकी फेडरेशन के बीच लम्बे समय से जारी खींचतान के मद्देनजर इस साल भारत से चैम्पियन्स ट्रॉफी की मेजबानी छीन ली थी।

आज देश और दुनिया में विश्व वृद्धजन दिवस मनाया जा रहा है। इस अवसर पर देशभर में अनेक कार्यक्रम आयोजित किये गये हैं हमारे भोपाल संवाददाता ने बताया है कि मध्य प्रदेश सरकार ने १०० वर्ष की आयु पूरी कर चुके बुजुर्गों का शतायु सम्मान के साथ अभिनंदन करने का फैसला किया है।

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वृद्धजन दिवस पर राज्यस्तरीय कार्यक्रम भोपाल के रविंद्र भवन में आयोजित किया जा रहा है वहीं सभी जिला मुख्यालयों पर जागरूकता शिविर लगाये जायेंगे। इन शिविरों में बुजुर्गों का निशुल्क चिकित्सा परीक्षण किया जायेगा और उनके स्वास्थ्य बीमा से जुड़े मुद्दों और अन्य समस्याओं का निपटारा किया जायेगा। सौ या इससे अधिक उम्र के बुजुर्गों को शतायु सम्मान दिया जायेगा। सम्मान स्वरूप उन्हें एक हज+ार रुपये नकद और शाल और श्रीफल दिया जायेगा। राज्य सरकार ने सरकारी अस्पतालों में वृद्धजन के लिये अलग से वार्ड बनाने का फैसला भी किया है। शारिक नूर, आकाशवाणी समाचार, भोपाल

The Centre is to convene an all party meeting to discuss the Telangana issue. The Home Minister P. Chidambaram said this in New Delhi yesterday. He expressed concern over the 18-day long agitation and appealed to protestors to withdraw their strike saying that it will cripple the economy of the state.
My appeal is that while the protestors have certainly made their point continuation of any strike or Rail Roko or Rasta Roko cripples economic activity and enormously inconveniences the people.
The issue of a separate Telangana state was also discussed at a meeting of the Congress core group at the Prime Minister's residence in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi. It was attended by senior party leaders including Defence Minister A K Antony, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram. Our correspondent understands that the core group discussed the report on the Telangana issue submitted earlier in the day to Mrs. Sonia Gandhi by Party General Secretary and Incharge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Mr. Azad, had interacted with party ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs from Telangana, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions of the state on the statehood demand before finalising his report. Our Hyderabad correspondent reports that the Andhra Pradesh government has taken a number of steps to mitigate the sufferings of common man due to continuous strike.
In order to reduce the impact of the General Strike underway in Telangana region for the past 18 days, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the officials to procure 500 additional private buses. This was to improve the transport services crippled in the region due to the strike by state owned Road Transport Corporation employees. At a review meeting held last evening in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister also directed the officials to ensure maximum possible power supply as the state has been facing 235 million units of power shortage every day. In Gujarat, suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has been arrested in connection with an FIR filed by a police constable against him. Police constable K.D. Pant, who worked under Sanjiv Bhatt during the 2002 Gujarat riots, has registered an FIR accusing Bhatt of threatening him, fabricating false evidence and wrongful confinement. FIR was filed by police constable K.D.Pant who was working under Sanjiv Bhatt during 2002 Godhara riots. According to constable Pant's FIR, he was called by Mr.Bhatt at his residence on 16th June for some work and forced to sign false affidevit. Bhatt who dared to take on Chief Minister Narendra Modi had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging complicity in post-Godhra riots by Chief Minister Mr.Modi. Later, he was charge sheeted and suspended by the State Home department for alleged unauthorised absence from duty. Mr. Bhatt termed his arrest as politically motivated. Communications and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal has released National Frequency Allocation Plan, NAFP-2011 to ensure efficient management of radio spectrum. This Plan will come into effect from today. Releasing the plan, Mr. Sibal said that radio spectrum is becoming very important for all walks of life and needs to be managed rationally. He said NFAP-2011 is a policy document which contains spectrum allocation for various radio communication services and applications in different frequency bands.

Overseas players investing in education infrastructure in India will not require Foreign Investment Promotion Board's approval following government decision to exempt this sector from restrictions imposed under the FDI policy. HRD Ministry officials said in New Delhi that the decision will give a big boost to the education sector and address infrastructure deficiencies.
Under the new liberalised FDI regime, conditions for foreign direct investment in respect of construction of educational institutions have been eased.

The government is to compulsorily register every citizen in the country for creation of a National Population Register. Addressing a conference of Chief Secretaries, State Coordinators and Directors of Census Operations in New Delhi, Home Secretary R K Singh said more than 14 crore records have been digitised and over 50 lakh biometrics taken so far under the NPR. He said the exercise is to be completed by December, 2012.

A fresh drive for summary revision of electoral rolls with January one, 2012 as qualifying date will begin in Delhi from today. Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi Reena Ray said that people will be able to file claims and objections till November 1 and the revised electoral rolls will be published on January 5, 2012. The summary revision of the electoral rolls has been initiated following an Election Commission directive.

The President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has said that there is an excellent potential for harnessing Swiss technologies to meet India's development needs in areas such as renewable energy and energy efficiency. A Yemeni government official said in Sanaa, that an airstrike hit Awlaki's motorcade that killed him and three others, about eight kilometres from the Yemeni town of Khashef. US-born Awlaki described by American officials as the chief of external operations of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula was believed to be hiding in Yemen.

Pakistani authorities have arrested 48 Indian fishermen and seized eight boats on charges of illegally fishing in the country's territorial waters. An official spokesman said in Islamabad that Maritime Security Agency arrested the Indian fishermen on Thursday who strayed in to Pak waters. The IOA has convened an urgent meeting of Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting will discuss International Hockey Federation's threat to stop India's participation in London Olympics if issues relating to the game's governance in the country are not resolved. जहाजरानी मंत्री जी.के वासन ने कहा कि हाल के समय में जहाजरानी क्षेत्र को कई चुनौतियां का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। सोमालिया तट के पास समुद्री डकैती की बढ़ती घटनाएं सबसे बड़ी चुनौती है। उन्होंने कहा कि जहाजरानी मंत्रालय इस समस्या से निपटने के लिए विदेश मंत्रालय, भारतीय नौ-सेना और अन्य अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय एजेंसियों के नजदीकी सहयोग से काम कर रहा है। समुद्र में दुर्घटनाओं और तेल प्रदूषण की समस्या से निपटने के बारे में जहाजरानी मंत्री ने कहा कि उनका मंत्रालय २५ वर्ष से अधिक पुराने जहाजों के परिचालन के नियमन की अधिसूचना जारी करेगा। उन्होंने विश्वास व्यक्त किया कि इस तरह के उपायों से हमारे तट अधिक सुरक्षित और स्वच्छ होंगे।

नौसेना प्रमुख एडमिरल निर्मल वर्मा ने आज विशाखापटनम गोदी में चौथे बेड़े के टैंकर-शक्ति का जलावतरण किया। इटली में निर्मित शक्ति को २३ सितम्बर को औपचारिक रूप से भारतीय नौसेना की पूर्वी कमांड को सौंपा गया था। इस अवसर पर एडमिरल वर्मा ने कहा कि भारतीय नौसेना अपने बेड़े के विस्तार के साथ साथ विश्व के दूरदराज के समुद्री इलाकों में अपनी गतिविधियां बढ़ा रही है।

दिल्ली के एक अदालत ने टू जी स्पैक्ट्रम मामले में आरोपी डी.एम.के सांसद कणिमोझी और कलैग्नार टी वी के प्रबंध निदेशक शरद कुमार की जमानत याचिकाओं पर दलीलें आज स्थगित कर दी। इन लोगों ने कहा था कि जज द्वारा आरोप तय किए जाने के बाद इसकी सुनवाई हो। विशेष सी बी आई जज ओ.पी सैनी ने उनका अनुरोध स्वीकार कर लिया और कहा कि उनकी जमानत याचिकाओं पर १७ अक्तूबर को दलीलें सुनी जा सकती हैं, क्योंकि शायद तक तक आरोपियों के खिलाफ आरोप तय कर दिए जाएं। अदालत ने पांच अन्य आरोपियों की जमानत याचिकाओं पर भी सुनवाई ३ अक्तूबर तक स्थगित कर दी।
कणिमोझी और शरद कुमार की तरफ से पेश हुए वरिष्ठ वकीलों सुशील कुमार और अलताफ अहमद ने जज से कहा कि वे उच्चतम न्यायालय के आदेश का पालन करने के लिए बाध्य हैं। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने २० जून को उनकी जमानत की याचिकाएं खारिज करते हुए कहा था कि इन याचिकाओं पर तभी सुनावाई हो सकती है जब इस मामले में आरोप तय हो जाएं।

लोकसभा अध्यक्ष मीरा कुमार ने नोट के बदले वोट मामले में भाजपा सांसद अशोक अर्गल पर मुकदमा चलाने के लिए दिल्ली पुलिस को मंजूरी दे दी है। भाजपा के चार अन्य सदस्य पहले ही जेल में हैं और उन पर आपराधिक षड़यंत्र रचने तथा भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक कानून के तहत अपराध करने के आरोप लगे हुए हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने सरकारी सूत्रों के हवाले से खबर दी है कि जुलाई २००८ में लोकसभा में विश्वास प्रस्ताव के दौरान हुई घटना में अशोक अर्गल की कथित भूमिका के लिए उन पर मुकदमा चलाने की अनुमति प्राप्त करने के सिलसिले में दिल्ली पुलिस ने श्रीमती मीरा कुमार से सम्पर्क किया था। इसी के बाद श्रीमती मीरा कुमार ने मुकदमा चलाने की अनुमति दी। भाजपा के पूर्व सांसदों फग्गनसिंह कुलस्ते और महावीर भगोरा तथा वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी के पूर्व सहायक सुधीन्द्र कुलकर्णी और भाजपा के एक कार्यकर्ता सुहैल हिन्दुस्तानी को इस मामले में पहले ही गिरफ्‌तार किया जा चुका है। इनके अलावा राज्यसभा के सदस्य अमरसिंह और उनके पूर्व सहायक संजीव सक्सैना भी इस मामले में गिरफ्‌तार हैं।

मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने गुजरात के आई पी एस अधिकारी संजीव भट्ट की गिरफ्‌तारी की कड़ी आलोचना की है। नई दिल्ली में पार्टी के पोलित ब्यूरो के बयान में भट्ट को तत्काल रिहा करने और उन्हें पर्याप्त संरक्षण देने की मांग की गई है। पार्टी ने आरोप लगाया है कि गुजरात सरकार २००२ के साम्प्रदायिक दंगों में अपनी भूमिका छिपाने के लिए डराने-धमकाने के साथ साथ गैर कानूनी उपाय अपना रही है।

आन्धप्रदेश के तेलंगाना क्षेत्र में राज्य सरकार के कर्मचारियों, सिंगरेनी कोयला खान श्रमिकों तथा शिक्षकों की १९ वें दिन भी जारी हड़ताल के कारण जनजीवन प्रभावित है। राज्य सरकार ने हड़ताल के प्रभाव को कम करने के लिए कई कदम उठाए हैं। मुख्यमंत्री एन.किरन कुमार ने अधिकारियों को कर्मचारियों की हड़ताल के कारण प्रभावित परिवहन सेवाओं में सुधार के लिए पांच सौ अतिरिक्त बसों का प्रबंध करने के लिए कहा है। त्यौहारों को ध्यान में रखते हुए सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणाली के ज+रिए चावल और अन्य वस्तुओं की आपूर्ति के लिए उपाय किए जा रहे हैं।

केन्द्र ने राजीव आवास योजना के तहत पंजाब, हरियाणा और हिमाचलप्रदेश के नौ शहरों को झुग्गी-झोपड़ियों से मुक्त बनाने की योजना के प्रारंभिक कार्यों के लिए लगभग आठ करोड़ रूपये जारी किये हैं। केन्द्रीय आवास तथा शहरी गरीबी उन्मूलन मंत्रालय के सूत्रों के हवाले से हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि यह योजना भारत को झुग्गी-झोपड़ी से मुक्त करने की केन्द्र सरकार की योजना का हिस्सा है।

सिक्किम सरकार ने फैसला किया है कि भविष्य में जो भी सरकारी इमारतें बनेंगी, वे भूकम्परोधी होंगी और उनके लिए केन्द्र से आवश्यक तकनीकी मदद और दिशा निर्देश लिये जाएंगे। इसके अलावा राजधानी गंगटोक के दूसरी तरफ राका या पंगथांग पर्वतीय क्षेत्र में राज्य का नया सचिवालय भवन बनाया जाएगा। इस भवन में सरकार के सभी विभागों के कार्यालयों के लिए पर्याप्त स्थान होगा।

जम्मू कश्मीर सरकार ने सत्ताधारी नेशनल कांफ्रेंस के कार्यकर्ता सैयद मोहम्मद युसुफ की मौत की जांच उच्च न्यायालय के सेवारत न्यायाधीश से कराने का आदेश दिया है। युसुफ की शुक्रवार की सुबह श्रीनगर पुलिस अस्पताल में मौत हो गई थी। कहा जाता है कि गृह राज्यमंत्री नासिर असलम वानी ने युसुफ को बृहस्पतिवार को आवश्यक बैठक के लिए मुख्यमंत्री के शिविर कार्यालय में बुलाया था।

स्विटजरलैण्ड की यात्रा पर गईं राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने आज यूरोपीय परमाणु अनुसंधान परिषद का दौरा किया। भारत, विश्व की सबसे बड़ी और प्रतिष्ठित परिषद का प्रेक्षक सदस्य राष्ट्र है। भारत मूल के लगभग दो सौ वैज्ञानिक इसमें काम कर रहे हैं। इस परिषद में विश्वभर के लगभग दस हजार वैज्ञानिक और इंजीनियर तथा पांच हजार अन्य कर्मचारी अंतरिक्ष के रहस्यों का पता लगाने के काम में लगे हैं। १९७० से ही भारत के कई जाने माने वैज्ञानिक इस संस्था में अपना योगदान दे रहे हैं, जिनमें से अधिकतर टाटा मूलभूत अनुसंधान संस्थान के हैं।

पाकिस्तान में रावलपिंडी की आतंकवाद विरोधी अदालत ने पंजाब सूबे के पूर्व गवर्नर सलमान तासीर की हत्या के लिए मुमताज कादरी को दोषी ठहराया है। सलमान तासीर ईश निंदा कानून में संशोधन के पक्षधर थे। अदालत ने आज अपने फैसले में कादरी को मौत की सजा सुनाई। अदालत ने कहा कि किसी भी हालत में किसी को दूसरे की हत्या करने की छूट नहीं दी जा सकती। अदालत ने कहा कि कादरी ने जघन्य अपराध किया है, इसलिए उसे माफ नहीं किया जा सकता।
मुमताज कादरी को सात दिन के भीतर उच्च न्यायालय में फैसले के खिलाफ अपील करने का अधिकार है।

शिक्षा के बुनियादी ढांचे में निवेश करने वाली विदेशी संस्थाओं को अब विदेशी निवेश प्रोत्साहन बोर्ड की मंजूरी नहीं लेनी होगी। सरकार ने शिक्षा क्षेत्र को प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश की नीति के तहत लागू प्रतिबंधों से छूट देने का फैसला किया है।
मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने नयी दिल्ली में बताया कि इस फैसले से शिक्षा क्षेत्र को न सिर्फ भरपूर प्रोत्साहन मिलेगा, बल्कि शिक्षा के बुनियादी ढांचे में मौजूद खामियों को दुरूस्त करने में भी मदद मिलेगी। प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश की नई उदार नीति में शिक्षा संस्थानों के निर्माण में विदेशी निवेश की शर्तों को भी सरल बनाया गया है।

The Union Cabinet has approved the Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation Bill, 2011 aimed at curbing illegal mining and bringing more transparency in the allocation of licences for mining. Breifing News persons in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said the bill has provisions for 26 per cent profit-sharing by coal miners and an amount equivalent to royalty by non coal miners with project- affected people.
Mines and Mineral Minister Dinsha Patel said the Bill is likely to be tabled in Parliament in the Winter Session. Eloborating about the provisions of the bill, Mines Secretary S Vijay Kumar said, a Mineral Development Fund will be created in every district, in which profit and royalty shared by miners will be deposited and spent on the local population and area development. The new Bill also obligates mining firms to pay a 10 per cent cess to State governments and 2.5 per cent to the Centre on the total royalty paid. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik termed the Bill as 'too little too late'. Speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar, he said the Odisha government had asked for much more than what has been approved by the Union Cabinet.

A proposal for setting up of a Central Procurement Agency, CPA, for the Department of Health and Family Welfare has also been approved. Congress General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad today met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and submitted a report on his consultations with party lawmakers from Andhra Pradesh on the Telangana issue. He is in-charge of party affairs in the state. The party sources said, Mr. Azad, briefed Mrs. Gandhi about the situation in the Telangana region in the wake of the fortnight-long strike in support of the creation of a separate state. Mr. Azad, had interacted with party ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs from Telangana, Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions of the state on the statehood demand before submitting the report.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal today released National Frequency Allocation Plan, NAFP-2011 to ensure efficient management of radio spectrum. This Plan will come into effect from tomorrow. Releasing the plan, Mr. Sibal said that radio spectrum is becoming very important for all walks of life and needs to be managed rationally. He said NFAP-2011 is a policy document which contains spectrum allocation for various radio communication services and applications in different frequency bands.

In Gujarat, suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt was detained in connection with an FIR filed by a police constable against him. Police constable K.D. Pant, who worked under Sanjiv Bhatt during the 2002 Gujarat riots, had registered an FIR accusing Bhatt of threatening him, fabricating false evidence and wrongful confinement. Police said, Sanjiv Bhatt has not been arrested but detained for questioning.

The BJP has expressed concern over the rising food prices and government's inaction in tackling corruption. Briefing reporters after the first day of the meeting of the BJP national executive committee in New Delhi today, party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized the planning commission's latest poverty bench mark and described it as a cruel joke on the poor. Mr. Prasad said that the party will not form any alliance with the Samajwadi Party or ruling Bahujan Samaj Party for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled early next year. The Delhi police today submitted to a city court a supplementary charge sheet in the 2008 cash-for-vote scam case. The public pr osecutor told the court that though the Delhi police has completed their investigations in some aspects of the case, their overall probe into the scam is not yet complete. He said the police is still awaiting the Lok Sabha Speaker's sanction to prosecute BJP MP Ashok Argal. The prosecutor said the supplementary charge sheet contains no new names and is in continuation with the investigations carried out earlier.

In Jammu and Kashmir, four day long encounter at Awatkhol Miliai, Kupwara near the Line of Control has concluded. Five militants, one army lieutenant Susheel Khajuria, one army Havaldar Ravi Kumar and two jawans of the J&K police Gulzar Ahmed and Sheeraz Ahmed were killed in the encounter. Lt. Gen. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that the decision to borrow an additional 53,000 crore rupees from the market during the current financial year may not have a bearing on the fiscal deficit. सरकार ने आज कहा कि अलग तेलंगाना राज्य की मांग के मुद्दे पर विभिन्न दलों के साथ और विचार विमर्श करने की जरूरत है। वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने पत्रकारों से बातचीत में कहा कि इसमें कुछ और समय लग सकता है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार स्थिति की गंभीरता और तेलंगाना क्षेत्र में चल रहे आंदोलन से पूरी तरह अवगत है।

इस बीच, आंध्रप्रदेश में बुनियादी ढांचा और निवेश मंत्री कोमति रेड्डी वेंकट रेड्डी ने मंत्रिमंडल और विधायक पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है। उन्होंने आज हैदराबाद में राज्यपाल ई.एस.एल. नरसिन्मन को अपना त्यागपत्र सौंपा। इसे अभी मंजूर नहीं किया गया है।

इससे पहले, उन्होंने कहा कि वे गृहमंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम के बयान से आहत है, क्योंकि उन्होंने अलग तेलंगाना बनाने के लिए किसी समय सीमा का जिक्र नहीं किया है। श्री कोमति रेड्डी इस मुद्दे पर तेलंगाना क्षेत्र से इस्तीफा देने वाले दूसरे मंत्री हैं। इससे पहले, श्री किरण कुमार रेड्डी ने मंत्री पद से इस्तीफा दिया था।

आंध्रप्रदेश की स्थिति पर चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने सरकार से आज तेलंगाना मुद्दे पर तुरंत फैसला करने की मांग की। पार्टी महासचिव प्रकाश करात ने प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह को लिखे एक पत्र में कहा है कि इस मुद्दे पर राजनीतिक दलों के साथ और विचार विमर्श करने की जरूरत नहीं है क्योंकि सभी राजनीतिक दलों और आंध्रप्रदेश के विभिन्न वर्गों ने इस बारे में श्री कृष्णा कमेटी को अपने विचार पहले ही दे चुके हैं।

कांग्रेस का कहना है कि अगर नियंत्रक और महालेखा परीक्षक को टू-जी स्पैक्ट्रम के आबंटन से राजस्व को हुए अनुमानित नुकसान के बारे में संदेह है, तो उसे संशोधित आंकड़े पेश करने चाहिए। यह बात पार्टी प्रवक्ता अभिषेक मनु सिंघवी ने नई दिल्ली में कही।

हम किसी भी आंकड़े को मानने के लिए तैयार है जो वास्तविक है और किसी छानबीन पर आधारित है। अगर कोई आंकड़े काल्पनिक है तो उन्हें बड़ी सावधानी से देखे जाने की जरूरत है। नियंत्रक और महालेखा परीक्षक, सीएजी अगर यह समझता है कि उनके आंकलन में जरा भी संदेह है तो वो अपने आकड़े दूबारा प्रस्तुत करे।

टू-जी स्पैक्ट्रम के आबंटन में अनुमानित घाटे के बारे में लेखा परीक्षकों की टीम के बीच विवाद की खबरों के मद्देनजर पार्टी ने यह बयान दिया है। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि लेखा परीक्षकों में से एक ने टू-जी स्पैक्ट्रम आबंटन में करीब दो हजार छह सौ ४५ करोड़ रूपए का नुकसान बताया है, जबकि नियंत्रक और महालेखा परीक्षक की अंतिम रिपोर्ट में एक लाख ७६ हजार करोड़ रूपए का नुकसान बताया गया है।

दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने टू जी स्पैक्ट्रम मामले में आरोपी डी.एम.के सांसद कणिमोझी और कलेंइग्नार टी वी के प्रबंध निदेशक शरद कुमार की जमानत की अर्जियों पर दलीलें आज स्थगित कर दी। इन लोगों ने कहा था कि जज द्वारा आरोप तय किए जाने के बाद इन पर सुनवाई हो। विशेष सी बी आई जज ओ.पी सैनी ने उनका अनुरोध स्वीकार कर लिया और कहा कि उनकी जमानत की अर्जियों पर इस महीने की १७ तारीख को दलीलें सुनी जा सकती हैं, तब तक उन पर आरोप तय किए जा सकते हैं। अदालत ने पांच अन्य आरोपियों की जमानत की अर्जियों पर सुनवाई सोमवार तक स्थगित कर दी है।

लोकसभा अध्यक्ष मीरा कुमार ने नोट के बदले वोट मामले में भाजपा सांसद अशोक अर्गल पर मुकदमा चलाने के लिए दिल्ली पुलिस को अपनी मंजूरी दे दी है। इस मामले में भाजपा के पूर्व सांसद फग्गनसिंह कुलस्ते और महावीर भगोरा तथा वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी के पूर्व सहायक सुधीन्द्र कुलकर्णी और भाजपा के एक कार्यकर्ता सुहैल हिन्दुस्तानी पहले ही जेल में हैं। राज्यसभा के सदस्य अमरसिंह और उनके पूर्व सहायक संजीव सक्सैना को भी इस मामले में गिरफ्‌तार किया जा चुका है। उन पर षड़यंत्र रचने तथा भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक कानून के तहत आरोप लगाए गये हैं।

गुजरात में अहमदाबाद ग्रामीण न्यायालय ने निलंबित आईपीएस अधिकारी संजीव भट्ट की सात दिनों की पुलिस रिमांड की मांग रद्द कर दी है। न्यायालय ने दोनों पक्षों की दलीलों की सुनवाई के बाद उन्हें न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया। आज देर शाम पुलिस ने श्री भट्ट को अहमदाबाद ग्रामीण न्यायालय में पेश किया।
संजीव भट्ट को कल उनके अहमदाबाद स्थित निवास से गिरतार कर उन्हे घाटलोड़िया थाने ले जाया गया था। सूत्रों के अनुसार श्री भट्ट पर एफआईआर में पुलिस ने आईपीसी की एक और धारा १९४ भी जोड़ दी है, ताकि मामले में एक व्यक्ति को फंसने के उद्देश्य से एक और सबूत मिल जाए।
इससे पहले संजीव भट्ट की पत्नी श्वेता भट्ट ने अपने पति की जान को खतरा होने के बारे में गुजरात के पुलिस महानिदेशक को पत्र लिखा। दूसरी ओर अहमदाबाद नगर पुलिस आयुक्त सुधीर सिन्हा ने ऐसी किसी आशंका से इंकार किया है।

कांग्रेस ने गुजरात में आई पी एस अधिकारी संजीव भट्ट की गिरफ्‌तारी को दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण बताया है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता अभिषेक मनु सिंघवी ने आज नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों से कहा कि गुजरात सरकार के नेतृत्व में तानाशाही झलक रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि नरेन्द्र मोदी की सरकार अदालत में राज्य सरकार के खिलाफ बयान देने वालों को परेशान कर रही है।

केंद्रीय सतर्कता आयुक्त प्रदीप कुमार और केंद्रीय जांच ब्यूरो के निदेशक ए० पी० सिंह ने आज लोकपाल विधेयक की समीक्षा कर रही संसदीय समिति के सामने अपने विचार रखे। सीबीआई की भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक इकाई को भी लोकपाल के दायरे में लाने की टीम अन्ना की मांग के मद्देनजर इन दोनों एजेंसियों से राय मांगी गई थी।
संसदीय समिति प्रस्तावित लोकपाल की भूमिका और उसके अधिकारों के बारे में निर्णय के लिए केंद्रीय सतर्कता आयुक्त के विचार भी जानना चाहती थी।

प्रधानमंत्री ने जहाजरानी उद्योग और बन्दरगाह क्षेत्र के तेजी से विकास के लिए निजी और सार्वजनिक भागीदारी बढ़ाने को कहा है। आज मुम्बई में भारतीय जहाजरानी निगम के स्वर्ण जयंती समारोह में डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि खासकर समुद्री डकैती की घटनाओं के कारण सुरक्षा बढ़ाने की बहुत आवश्यकता है। उन्होंने कहा कि विकास की ओर अग्रसर भारत की अर्थव्यवस्था, जहाजरानी क्षेत्र के लिए बहुत अच्छे अवसर उपलब्ध करा रही हैं। डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि एक राष्ट्रीय परिवहन विकास नीति समिति बनाई गई है, जो इस क्षेत्र के और विकास के लिए सुझाव देगी।

वरिष्ठ नागरिकों के इलाज के लिए जल्द दो राष्ट्रीय संस्थान खोले जाएंगे। ये दिल्ली के अखिल भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान-एम्स और तमिलनाडु में मद्रास मेडिकल कालेज में होंगे। स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण मंत्री गुलाम नबी आजाद ने आज अन्तरराष्ट्रीय वरिष्ठ नागरिक दिवस के सिलसिले में नई दिल्ली में एक समारोह में यह जानकारी दी। उन्होंने बताया कि गंभीर बीमारियों से पीड़ित वरिष्ठ नागरिकों के लिए आठ क्षेत्रीय संस्थान भी जल्द खोले जायेंगे। श्री आजाद ने बताया कि वे कुछ महत्वपूर्ण कार्यक्रमों को आगे बढ़ाने के बारे में जल्दी एक बैठक बुलाएंगे।

अगले दो महीनों में मैं तमाम देश के साथ मंत्रियों की और सेक्रेटियों की और डायरेक्टरों की मिटिंग करने वाला हूं दो दिन की। जिसमें हम नॉन कम्युनिकेवल डिसिजि+ज जो हमने पिछले साल लांच किया है तो उसका आगे कुछ बढ़ नहीं रहा है और इसके साथ ही जो नेशनल प्रोग्राम फॉर हेल्थकेयर पर अलबर्ली हमने लांच किया है, ये आगे कैसे बढ़े जबतक कोई इस चीज को आगे नहीं बढ़ाये पैसे पर हम उनपर निर्भर नहीं।

केंद्र ने देश के विभिन्न जिलों में वरिष्ठ नागरिकों को स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं देने के लिए राष्ट्रीय वरिष्ठ स्वास्थ्य सेवा कार्यक्रम शुरू किया है। आकाशवाणी को एक विशेष भेंट में केंद्रीय सामाजिक न्याय और अधिकारिता मंत्री मुकुल वासनिक ने कहा कि परियोजना के अंतर्गत पहले चरण में शुरूआत में सौ जिलों की पहचान कर वहां वरिष्ठ नागरिकों को इलाज और चिकित्सकीय उपकरण मुहैया कराये जायेंगे।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी नेता अरुण जेटली ने पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी और गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के बीच मतभेद का खण्डन किया है। श्री जेटली नई दिल्ली में आज पार्टी की राष्ट्रीय कार्यकारिणी की दो दिन की बैठक की समाप्ति पर पत्रकारों से बातचीत कर रहे थे। उन्होंने यू पी ए सरकार पर भ्रष्टाचार, महंगाई और आतंकवाद से निपटने में विफल रहने का आरोप लगाया।
इससे पहले पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी ने बैठक को संबोधित करते हुए पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं से चुनावों के लिए तैयार रहने को कहा।

राष्ट्रपति श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल ने यूरोपीय परमाणु अनुसंधान परिषद-सी ई आर एन से जलवायु परिवर्तन की समस्या से निपटने में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाने को कहा है। श्रीमती पाटिल ने परिषद के दौरे के दौरान कहा कि जलवायु परिवर्तन से त्सुनामी, तूफान और भूकंप जैसी प्राकृतिक आपदाएं आती हैं।
सी ई आर एन के महानिदेशक रोल्फ ह्‌यूअर ने श्रीमती पाटिल को बताया की जानकारी देते हुए कहा कि परिषद जलवायु परिवर्तन पर प्रयोग कर रही है और भारत के वैज्ञानिक इसमें बड़े पैमाने पर योगदान दे रहे हैं।
श्रीमती पाटील ने कहा कि भारत इस बारे में अनुसंधान कर रहे अनेक राष्ट्रों के साथ सहयोग कर रहा है तथा वह सी ई आर एन के साथ सहयोग और आगे बढ़ाना चाहता है।

The Government says, more consultations with various parties are needed to resolve the Telengana issue and the exercise may take some more time. The issue figured at a high level meeting of Union Ministers in New Delhi today. Those who attended the meeting include Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Political Secretary to Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel and Union Minister and Congress General Secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, Ghulam Nabi Azad. Talking to news persons later, Pranab Mukherjee said that they are in the process of consultations.
We are in the process of consultations. Yesterday, we discussed it in the Core Group. Today also, some of us had discussion. Further consultations would be needed. is fully aware of the gravity of the situation and the agitation which is taking place. We are in the process of it, therefore, we will have to go for more consultations that will take some time.
Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said, Congress is doing its best to take all leaders from the three regions on board to resolve the issue at the earliest. He called upon all the stakeholders involved in the Telengana issue, to exercise restrain. The meeting took place as TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao arrived in New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other leaders to demand an early solution to the statehood issue.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure and Investments Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy has resigned from the state cabinet and also as legislator. He said, he was hurt that Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s statement did not indicate any time frame for the creation of Telangana state. However, his resignation is yet to be accepted. In Gujarat, Ahmedabad Rural Court has rejected the 7 days police remand of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. The Court sent him to judicial custody after hearing the arguments of both the sides. Bhatt was produced in Ahmedabad rural court by the police late this evening. Police had sought 7 days remand of Sanjiv Bhatt, who was arrested from his Ahmedabad residence and taken to Ghatlodia Police station yesterday. Our Correspondent reports that the police added one more section, 194 of IPC, in the FIR against Bhatt apparently for creating evidence with a view to falsely implicating a person in a case.
Sanjiv Bhatt was booked under 341, 342, 189, 193 and 195 of the IPC following FIR by a Police constable K.D.Pant- for threatening a public servant, fabricating false evidence and wrongful confinement. Wife of Sanjiv Bhatt- Mrs.Shweta Bhatt has wrote to State DGP about the danger to his husband's life. However, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Mr. Sudhir Sinha denied the apprehension and said that there is no threat to Sanjiv Bhatt's life. Police has also raided Sanjiv Bhatt's house twice after his arrest and conducted the search. Earlier, Sanjiv Bhatt had filed an affidavit in Supreme Court alleging complicity in post-Godhra riots by Chief Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. The Congress today termed as unfortunate the arrest of IPS Officer Sanjiv Bhatt by the Gujarat government. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that doctorship is quite visible in the state leadership. Mr. Singhvi said, Narendra Modi led state government is harassing everyone who is opposing it in court of law. On the 2 G spectrum issue, Mr. Singhvi said, Comptroller and Auditor General - CAG should revise its estimated revenue loss in the 2G spectrum allocation, if it is in doubt. He said that party is always open to the figures based on research and actuality but does not believe in the notional figures.
We are always open to any figure which is actual, real, base on some research. If the figures are notional, they deserve to have very careful look. A constitution institution like CAG, to its self revise its estimations, if it finds there is slightest doubt about it.
The Party's statement has come in the wake of reports of differences among the team of auditors who filed the presumptive loss from the 2G allocation.

A Delhi court today deferred the arguments on the bail applications of DMK MP Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar, accused in the 2G spectrum case, on their plea that they may be heard after the Judge frames charges in the case. Special CBI Judge O P Saini agreed to their plea and said, the arguments on their bail applications can be heard on October 17 as it may frame charges against the accused by that time. The court also deferred the arguments on the bail pleas of five other accused to Monday.

BJP leader Arun Jaitley has denied any rift between senior party leader L K Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. He was briefing media in New Delhi today at the end of the two-day National Executive meeting of party. Mr. Jaitley said, an uneasy truce exists between Finance Minister and the Home Minister on the 2G spectrum issue. He charged the UPA government with failure in dealing with corruption, price rise and terrorism. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has called for an accelerated pace of expansion in the shipping industry and the port sector by means of private-public partnership. Afghanistan says the plot to assassinate 's former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani was hatched in Pakistan. Afghanistan intelligence agency said it has handed over evidence for this to Pakistan. The National Directorate of Security said the September suicide bombing that killed Rabbani was planned in Satellite, a suburb of the Pakistani city of Quetta. A spokesman of the Directorate said, the agency has arrested key people involved in Rabbani's murder plot. He said the detainees have provided details about the assassination, linking the suicide bombing to the Taliban leadership. The spokesman said the evidence and documents have been submitted to the Pakistani embassy in Kabul.

The Centre has started a Pilot Project called the National Programme for the Health Care of Elderly in various districts of the country. In an exclusive interview to All India Radio, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Mukul Wasnik said that initially 100 district have been identified under the first phase of the project where medical treatment and equipment will be provided to the elderly person for health care.

Two National Institutes specialized in treating elderly people will be set up soon. The Institutes will be based at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi and the Madras Medical College in Tamil Nadu. Disclosing this in New Delhi today Health and Family Welfare Minster Ghulam Nabi Azad said eight regional institutes will also be started soon for elderly patients suffering from serious ailments. Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik asked the voluntary organizations and NGOs to sensitize people about the provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. Life Expectancy in the country has increased from 40 years in 1951 to 65 at present. Consequently the population of the elderly has increased four times. The number of senior citizens above the age of 60 was over 76 million as per the 2001 Census and it is estimated to reach over 170 million by 2026. Older people suffer from various ailments and there is an urgent need for dedicated health care facilities for the elderly. Government has taken several initiatives for the betterment of senior citizens. A National Programme for Health Care of Elderly, is being implemented in 100 most backward and remote districts of the country. In Jharkhand, Padamshree awardee and Rajya Sabha nominated Member Dr. Ram Dayal Munda was cremated today with full state honor. The cremation took place at his native village Deori in Bundu under Ranchi district in Jharkhand. Dr. Munda died of cancer yesterday in a private hospital at Ranchi. He was 72 .
