उत्तर प्रदेश विधानसभा चुनाव में कल पहले चरण में ५५ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में ६२ प्रतिशत से अधिक रिकॉर्ड मतदान हुआ। इस बार पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव की तुलना में १६ प्रतिशत अधिक वोट डाले गए।
मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त एस वाई कुरैशी ने मतदान का प्रतिशत बढ़ने का श्रेय मतदाताओ ंको जागरूक करने और अधिक से अधिक संख्या में नए मतदाताओं के पंजीकरण के लिए चुनाव आयोग के प्रयासों को दिया।
इस बीच, फरूखाबाद जिले में चुनाव अधिकारियों ने कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार लुई खुर्शीद को उपहार बांटने के मामले में कारण बताओ नोटिस दिया है। चुनाव अधिकारी ने उनसे दो दिन के भीतर स्थिति स्पष्ट करने को कहा है नहीं तो उन पर आदर्श आचार संहिता के उल्लंघन की कार्रवाई की जायेगी।
दूसरे चरण के लिए नौ जिलों के ५९ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में प्रचार आज शाम समाप्त हो जाएगा। इस चरण में मतदान शनिवार को होना है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि छठे चरण के लिए नामांकन पत्र भरने का समय आज शाम समाप्त हो रहा है।

दूसरे चरण के चुनाव में कल एक हजार ९९ उम्मीदवार मैदान हैं। इस चरण में पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश के संत कबीरनगर, महाराजगंज, गोरखपुर, देवरिया, कुशीनगर, आजमगढ़, मऊ, बलिया, और गाजीपुर जिलों में मतदान होना है। इस चरण में कई महत्वपूण राजनीतिक व्यक्तियों के चुनाव भाग्य का फैसला होगा। ३१ वर्तमान विधायक और चौबीस पूर्व मंत्री भी चुनाव मैदान में हैं। पांचवे चरण में लिए नाम वापसी का समय समाप्त होने के बाद अब कुल आठ सौ चालीस उम्मीदवार मैदान में रह गए हैं। सुनील शुक्ल, आकाशवाणी समाचार, लखनऊ।

गुजरात में २००२ गोधरा कांड के बाद हुए दंगों की जांच कर रहे विशेष जांच दल-एसआईटी ने अहमदाबाद में एक स्थानीय अदालत में अपनी अंतिम रिपोर्ट दाखिल कर दी है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि पिछले साल १२ सितम्बर को उच्चतम न्यायालय ने दंगों पर काबू पाने में मोदी सरकार की कथित निष्क्रियता पर कोई आदेश देने से इनकार कर दिया था और मजिस्ट्रेट अदालत पर यह जिम्मेदारी छोड़ दी थी कि वह एसआईटी की रिपोर्ट के आधार पर उनके खिलाफ कार्रवाई का फैसला लें।

कल गुजरात हाई कोर्ट द्वारा राज्य की नरेन्द्र मोदी सरकार को २००२ के साम्प्रदायिक दंगों में निष्क्रियता बरतने के लिए बड़ी फटकार मिलने के बाद विशेष जांच दल द्वारा दायर अंतिम रिपोर्ट काफी महत्वपूर्ण है। बंद लिफाफे में दायर की गई अंतिम रिपोर्ट आज खोली जा सकती है। गुलबर्ग हत्या कांड में कांग्रेस के सांसद एहसान जाफरी सहित अनेक लोग मारे गए थे और उनकी पत्नी जकिया जाफरी की शिकायत के आधार पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी सहित ६३ लोगों की भूमिका के बारे में विशेष जांच दल गठित किया था। योगेय पंड्या, आकाशवाणी समाचार अहमदाबाद।

गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय ने इस्लामिक रिलीफ कमेटी ऑफ गुजरात की याचिका पर सुनवाई करते हुए गोधरा दंगों के दौरान ध्वस्त हुए लगभग पांच सौ धार्मिक स्थलों के लिए मुआवजा देने का आदेश दिया। न्यायालय ने कहा कि ऐसे ढांचों की मरम्मत और मुआवजे की जिम्मेदारी राज्य सरकार की है।

केन्द्र ने स्टूडेंट्स इस्लामिक मूवमेंट ऑफ इंडिया-सिमी पर लागू प्रतिबंध  और दो साल के लिए बढ़ा दिया है। इस गुट का पाकिस्तान के आतंकवादी संगठनों लश्कर-ए-तैयबा और इंडियन मुजाहिदीन से संबंध है।
गृह मंत्रालय ने इस संबंध में एक अधिसूचना जारी की है। इससे पहले प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह की अध्यक्षता में हुई सुरक्षा मामलों की मंत्रिमंडल समिति की बैठक में सिमी पर प्रतिबंध बढ़ाने के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दी गई।
यह प्रतिबंध इस महीने के अंत से दो वर्ष की अवधि के लिए लागू रहेगा।

प्रवर्तन निदेशालय ने टूजी स्पैक्ट्रम आवंटन घोटाले के सिलसिले में पूर्व केंद्रीय मंत्री दया निधि मारन और उनके भाई कला निधि पर मनी लांडरिंग का मामला दर्ज किया है।
मनी लांडरिंग निरोधक कानून के तहत दर्ज मामला मारन बंधुओं को एयर सैल - मैक्सिस सौदे में कथित रूप से मिली करीब साढ़े पांच सौ करोड़ रूपये की अवैध रकम से संबंधित है। पूर्व दूर संचार मंत्री दया निधि मारन ने पिछले वर्ष इन आरोपों के बाद त्याग पत्र दे दिया था कि उन्होंने २००४-२००५ में दूर संचार लाइसेंस देने के लिए एयर सैल के मुकाबले मलेशिया के कंपनी मैक्सिस का पक्ष लिया था। श्री मारन ने इन आरोपों से इंकार किया था।
इन आरोपों के सिलसिले में सीबीआई भी श्री मारन और सन टीवी के प्रबंध निदेशक कला निधि मारन की जांच कर रही है। सीबीआई इस सौदे में विदेशी मुद्रा के नियमों के कथित उल्लंघन की भी छानबीन कर रही है।

सरकार ने कहा है कि वह यह सुनिश्चित करेगी कि देश भर में मोबाइल फोन और टावर से होने वाला वि+द्युत-चुम्बकीय विकिरण निर्धारित सीमा के भीतर हो। कल नई दिल्ली में भारत के एसोसिएटिड वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंडल संघ -एसोचैम द्वारा आयोजित अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय स्वास्थ्य सम्मेलन में पत्रकारों से बातचीत करते हुए दूरसंचार मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने कहा कि सरकार ने हाल ही में एक अंतर मंत्रालय समिति गठित की है, जिसका निष्कर्ष है कि बेस ट्रांसीवर स्टेशनों से होने वाला उत्सर्जन निर्धारित सीमा के भीतर है और इसलिए इंसानों को इससे कोई खतरा नहीं है।
मोबाइल फोन और टावर से होने वाले विकिरण के नियमों की समीक्षा की मांग के बारे में उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार विशेषज्ञों से बातचीत करने पर तभी विचार करेगी, जब इस बात को साबित करने के लिए पर्याप्त सबूत होंगे कि निर्धारित मानक सही नहीं है।

ओडीशा में जहरीली शराब पीने से मरने वालों की संख्या ३३ हो गई है। ४२ व्यक्ति अब भी कटक के एस सी बी मेडिकल कॉलेज अस्पताल में जीवन के लिए संघर्ष कर रहे हैं। बहुत से अन्य बीमार लोगों को भुवनेश्वर में निजी अस्पतालों में भर्ती कराया गया है। कटक के महिधरपाड़ा और बलियांता इलाके और पड़ोस के खुरदा जिले के कई गांवों में लोग जहरीली शराब पीने से मरे हैं। ओड़ीशा सरकार ने घटना की न्यायिक जांच कराने के आदेश दिए हैं। लेकिन कांग्रेस ने सी बी आई से जांच कराने और मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक तथा आबकारी मंत्री ए यू सिंह देव के इस्तीफे की मांग की है।

भारत और चीन ने अगले तीन वर्ष में आपसी व्यापार बढ़ाकर एक सौ अरब अमरीकी डॉलर करने का लक्ष्य रखा है। विदेश मंत्री एस एम कृष्णा ने कल पेइचिंग में कहा कि भारत, चीन के साथ आपसी सहयोग और संपर्क को आगे बढ़ाता रहेगा। चीन की सरकारी समाचार एजेंसी शिनहुआ के साथ भेंटवार्ता में श्री कृष्णा ने कहा कि भारत और चीन के बीच आर्थिक और व्यापारिक सहयोग बहुत तेजी से बढ़ा है। दोनों देशों ने आर्थिक संपर्क और सहयोग और बढ़ाने के लिए पिछले वर्ष महत्त्वपूर्ण आर्थिक संवाद तंत्र स्थापित किया था। दोंनों देशो के बीच सीमा के मुद्दे के बारे में पूछे जाने पर श्री कृष्णा ने कहा कि इस पर बातचीत चल रही है।
श्री कृष्णा चीन की यात्रा पर मंगलवार को पेइचिंग पंहुचे थे। कल उन्होंने पेइचिंग में भारतीय दूतावास के नए परिसर का उद्घाटन किया।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने चेतावनी दी है कि अगर राज्यों और केंद्रशासित प्रदेशों के अधिकारी निर्माण मजदूरों के रोजगार और कल्याण संबंधी कानून अपनाने के  उसके निर्देश का पालन नहीं करते तो वह उनके खिलाफ अवमानना की प्रक्रिया शुरू करेगा।
मुख्य न्यायाधीश एस एच कापड़िया, न्यायमूर्ति ए के पटनायक और न्यायमूर्ति स्वतंत्र कुमार की पीठ ने फैसला दिया कि सभी राज्य कल्याण बोर्डों की दो महीने के भीतर महालेखा परीक्षक से ऑडिट कराई जानी चाहिए।
पीठ ने यह निर्देश एक गैर सरकारी संगठन की याचिका पर दिया। इसमें आरोप लगाया गया था कि राज्यों और केंद्रशासित प्रदेशों ने २८ नवंबर २०११ के उच्चतम न्यायालय के निर्देशों पर अमल नहीं किया है।

केन्द्रीय जल आयोग ने कहा है कि इस समय देश की अधिकांश बड़ी नदियों के जलाशयों  में मौजूद पानी की मात्रा पिछले दस साल के औसत से ज्यादा है। आयोग ने एक बयान में कहा कि जनवरी के आखिरी सप्ताह में उपलब्ध आंकड़ों के अनुसार गंगा, सिन्धु, नर्मदा, तापी, माही, साबरमती और कच्छ की नदियों सहित प्रमुख नदियों में पानी पिछले दस वर्षों के औसत से बेहतर है और गोदावरी तथा कृष्णा थालों में सामान्य के करीब है। आयोग ने कहा कि पिछले साल पहली जून से मॉनसून शुरू होने पर इन सभी जलाशयों में उनकी तय क्षमता का २४ प्रतिशत पानी था और इस वर्ष २५ जनवरी तक यह ५५ प्रतिशत था। आयोग का कहना है कि इस समय इनमें पिछले वर्ष के संग्रह का ८९ प्रतिशत और इसी अवधि के दौरान पिछले १० वर्षों के औसत जल संग्रह का १२२ प्रतिशत है।

पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार ने केन्द्र से छोटे और सीमांत किसानों का कृषि ऋण माफ करने का आग्रह किया है। राज्य की मुख्यमंत्री सुश्री ममता बनर्जी ने प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह को इस आशय का एक पत्र लिखा। कोलकाता में यह जानकारी देते हुए सुश्री बनर्जी ने कहा कि उन्होंने केन्द्र से अनुरोध किया कि वह छोटे और सीमांत किसानों के लिए उरर्वक का समर्थन मूल्य घोषित करें। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि राज्य में किसानों की आत्महत्या को ध्यान में रखते हुए सुश्री बनर्जी का केन्द्र को लिखा गया पत्र महत्व रखता है।

पर्थ में त्रिकोणीय एक दिवसीय श्रृंखला के दूसरे मैच में कल भारत ने श्रीलंका को चार विकेट से हरा दिया है। श्रीलंका ने पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए निर्धारित ५० ओवर में आठ विकेट पर २३३ रन बनाए। भारत ने जीत के लक्ष्य को छह विकेट पर ४७वें ओवर में हासिल कर लिया। श्रृंखला का अगला मैच शुक्रवार को ऑस्ट्रेलिया और श्रीलंका के बीच होगा

पूर्वी यूरोप के कुछ हिस्सों में भारी बर्फबारी के बीच पारा शून्य से ४० डिग्री नीचे चला गया है। कड़कड़ाती ठण्ड की वजह से कई गांव बाकी की दुनिया से कट गए हैं। बुल्गारिया में सैकड़ों लोग भारी बारिश और बर्फ में फंस गए हैं। बुल्गारिया के अधिकारियों का कहना हे कि तुर्की की सीमा पर कापितान अंद्रीवो नाम के गांव पर सर्दी की मार पड़ी है। भारी बारिश में एक बांध टूट गया है और पूरा गांव ही तबाह हो गया है। सर्दी की वजह से पूर्वी यूरोप के कुछ हिस्सों में तापमान लगातार गिरता जा रहा है और २५० से ज्यादा लोगों जान जा चुकी है।

सोमालिया की राजधानी मोगादिशू में एक कैफे के नजदीक हुए एक कार बम विस्फोट में कम से कम दस लोग मारे गए और २० से अधिक लोग घायल हो गए। पुलिस के एक कमांडर ने इसे आत्मघाती हमला बताया। इस्लामी उग्रवादी गुट अल-शबाब ने विस्फोट की जिम्मेदारी ली है। इसी जगह पर साल २०१० में भी हमला हुआ था जिसमें छह सांसदों समेत ३२ लोग मारे गए थे।

सीरिया में हत्यांए रूकवाने की एक और कोशिश में अरब लीग ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र से आग्रह किया है कि वहां अरब लीग के साथ मिलकर एक निगरानी दल भेजे। लीग के प्रमुख नबील अल अराबी ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव बान की मून से बात करके संयुक्त निगरानी दल की अध्यक्षता के लिए विशेष दूत नियुक्त करने का आग्रह किया। श्री बान ने सीरिया में हत्याओं पर ंिचंता व्यक्त करते हुए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय से एक स्वर में बोलने को कहा है। उन्होंने कहा है कि ऐसा न होने से सीरिया के लोगों को बहुत नुकसान हुआ है और अपनी जनता का दमन तेज करने के लिए सीरिया सरकार का हौसला बढ़ा है।

In Uttar Pradesh, for the first phase of elections in 55 constituencies, a new record of an over 62 percent voter turnout has been recorded yesterday. In comparison within the last assembly elections about 16 percent increase in voting has been recorded in the first phase of Assembly polling. In each and every poll bound district voting was totally peaceful with no incident of violence reported from any part of the state. Talking to a news agency, Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi attributed it to the efforts of the Election Commission of India to educate voters and to the higher enrollment of fresh voters. To ensure higher voting, he said, the EC had launched a campaign saying voting is a precious right and it should be treated as a duty. Our correspondent reports that electioneering for the second phase of voting for 59 assembly constituencies comes to an end this evening.

A total of 1,099 candidates are in the fray for this phase. The districts going for poll for this phase include Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia and Ghazipur. The second phase would test the electoral fate of many senior leaders, including speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar, state president of BSP Swami Prasad Maurya and BJP president Surya Pratap Shahi. A total of 840 candidates are left in the fray in 49 assembly seats in the fifth phase of elections after ending of withdrawal of nomination papers yesterday. The Special Investigation Team, SIT, probing the post-Godhra 2002 riots in Gujarat filed its final report before a local court in Ahmedabad . Our Correspondent says the report was submitted in a sealed envelope by SIT officials in a magisterial court as directed by the Supreme court.

After the serious criticism by Gujarat High Court for inaction during a post Godhara riots the closer report filed by the the SIT in a sealed covered is likely to be crucial for Narendra Modi Government. The Centre has extended the ban imposed on the Students Islamic Movement of India SIMI by two more years. The Group has links with Pakistan-based terrorist outfits including Lashkar-e-Taiba and its front, the Indian Mujahideen. The Home Ministry issued a notification in this regard after the Cabinet Committee on Security CCS , chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved the proposal of extending the ban on SIMI. The ban would come into effect from this month end for a period of two years. SIMI was declared outlawed in 2001 when it came to light that the outfit was involved in a series of terrorist activities.

The Enforcement Directorate,ED has registered a money laundering case against former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation case. The case, registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, on Tuesday pertains to an alleged illegal gratification of about 550 crore rupees allegedly received by the Maran brothers in the Aircel-Maxis deal.

In Odisha, the death toll in the hooch tragedy has increased to 33 . As many as 42 more persons are still struggling for their lives at the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, while many more have been admitted to other private hospitals in Bhubaneswar. People in several villages spread over Mahidharpada and Balianta areas of Cuttack and adjoining Khurda districts died after drinking spurious liquor. The Odisha Government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident. However, the opposition Congress have demanded a CBI probe into the incident resignation of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and of the Excise Minister AU Singh Deo over the issue.

The Supreme Court has warned that it would initiate contempt proceedings against the concerned authorities of states and union territories if they failed to enforce its direction for implementation of laws regulating the employment of construction workers and their welfare. A three-judge bench of Chief Justice S H Kapadia, A K Patnaik and Swatanter Kumar also in an order ruled that all the State Welfare Boards shall be subjected to audit by the CAG within two months. The bench passed the direction on a contempt petition filed by an NGO accusing states and union territories of failing to implement the apex court's direction of November 28, 2011. Under the Act, states and union territories have to appoint registering officers and all employer should register their establishment and ensure that building workers are given various benefits.

India and China have set a target of scaling up their bilateral trade to 100 billion US dollars in next three years. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said in Beijing that India will continue to carry forward the positive momentum of bilateral cooperation and exchanges with China. In an interview to the state-run Xinhua news agency, Mr Krishna said that economic and trade cooperation between India and China has witnessed a robust growth rate. When asked about the border issue between the two countries, Krishna said it remains under discussion. He said that the working mechanism will address issues and situations that may arise in the border areas that affect the maintenance of peace and tranquility. The Minister said this mechanism is a significant step forward in the direction of maintaining of peace and tranquility along the India-China border.

In a fresh bid to stop the killings in Syria, the Arab League has called upon the United Nations to send a Joint UN-Arab league monitoring team to Syria. The League Chief Nabil Al Arabi spoke to UN secretary General Ban Ki Moon and sought the nomination of a special envoy to head the Joint monitoring mission. Mr. Ban Ki Moon has expressed concern over the killings in Syria and urged the international community to speak in one voice. He said failure to do so is disastrous for the people of Syria which has encouraged the Syrian government to step up its war on its own people. He held a meeting with the Security Council to discuss the developments in Syria. Meanwhile, Turkey has planned to call an international conference with regional and world powers to resolve the crisis in Syria. According to reports from the Syrian opposition Activists and agency sources over 73 people were killed in heavy shelling in the restive province of Homs and Daraa on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters at the International Health Conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India in New Delhi yesterday, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said the government had recently set up an inter-ministerial committee which concluded that emissions from base transceiver stations are within the prescribed limits, and hence safe for human beings. Responding to demands for review of radiation norms from mobile phones and towers, he said, the government will consider a dialogue with experts only if there is substantial evidence to prove the stipulated norms decided are not right.

If you finds substantial sound, sensible evidence to show that what we have decided is not right. We will certainly be open to talks but you cant ask for a review merely because some experts don't agree with it.

Mr Sibal said, the expert group that recommended the emission norms included representative from his Ministry, the Department of Biotechnology, Indian Council of Medical Research, Ministry of environment and Department of Science and Technology. The government adopted recommendation of the inter-ministerial group and notified the radiation norms for mobile phones and towers in November last year. New mobile radiation norms will be implemented in India from September 1, 2012 in which the maximum Specific Absorption Rate will be of 1.6 values, as followed in the United States. Right now the limit is 2.0, which is the European standard.

The Central Water Commission said that water storage position in major rivers of the country at present is better than the average of previous 10 years. The Commission said in a statement that as per data available in the last week of January, storage position in major rivers including Ganga, Indus, Narmada, Tapi, Sabarmati, rivers of Kutch, is better than average of previous 10 years and Godavari and Krishna basins are close to normal. The Commission, which is monitoring the storage position of 82 important water reservoirs across the country, said, the combined live storage in these reservoirs at the beginning of monsoon from June 1 last year was 24 per cent of their designed capacity.

In Somalia, at least 10 people have been killed and more than 20 injured when a car bomb exploded near a cafe in the capital, Mogadishu yesterday. A police commander said it was a suicide attack. The Islamist militant group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the blast. Yesterday's attack was the latest of a series of suicide attacks staged by the Al-Qaeda-linked group in Mogadishu - after being pushed out last August by the Somali government and African Union troops.

सरकार ने राष्ट्रीय शीत भंडारण विकास केन्द्र स्थापित करने और इसके लिए २५ करोड़ रूपए के एकमुश्त अनुदान को मंजूरी दी। आज नई दिल्ली में प्रधानमंत्री डॉ मनमोहन सिंह की अध्यक्षता में केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक में यह फैसला किया गया। भंडारण की समुचित सुविधा उपलब्ध न होने के कारण हर वर्ष ५० हजार करोड़ रूपए से अधिक का नुकसान होता है जिसे देखते हुए सरकार ने फैसला किया है। मंत्रिमंडल ने राष्ट्रीय शीत भंडार केन्द्र को सोसायटी पंजीकरण कानून १८६० के अंतर्गत सोसायटी के रूप में पंजीकृत करने को मंजूरी दी। इस केन्द्र कीे सचिव की अध्यक्षता वाली २२ सदस्यों की संचालन परिषद होगी। इनमें सरकारी अधिकारी, भारतीय उद्योग परिसंघ, भारतीय वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंडल परिसंघ तथा अन्य सम्बद्ध पक्ष शामिल होंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने कहा है कि भारत, दुनिया में बागवानी उत्पादों का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक है।

फलों और सब्जियों की खेती में भारत चीन के बाद दुनिया का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक है। इन उत्पादों में सात करोड़ १५ लाख टन फल १३ करोड़ ३७ लाख टन सब्जियां और एक करोड़ ७८ लाख टन दूसरे पैदावार शामिल हैं, जिसमें फूल, मसाले, नारियल, काजू, मशरूम और मधु प्र्रमुख है। इन सब पैदावारों में से फल, सब्जियां और फूल शीत ग्रहों के अभाव में सड़ जाते है।  एक संसदीय समिति के आंकडे+ के मुताबिक कुल पैदावार का ३५ प्रतिशत बर्बाद चला जाता है, जिसकी कीमत ५० हजार करोड़ रूपये से ज्यादा आंकी गई है। २००८ में सरकार ने समुचित शीत ग्रहों की स्थापना के लिए एक टॉस्क फोर्स बनायी थी। शीत ग्रहों की श्रृंखला के निर्माण पर काबीना द्वारा लिए गए आज के फैसले से अब इस बर्बादी को रोका जा सकेगा। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए दिल्ली से मैं मणिकांत ठाकुर।
एक अन्य फैसले में सरकार ने आंकड़ों के आदान-प्रदान और उन तक पहुंच की राष्ट्रीय नीति-२०१२ को मंजूरी दी। इस नीति से केन्द्र सरकार के आंकड़ों और सूचनाओं को प्राप्त करने में सहायता मिलेगी। ये आंकड़े देश भर में एक नेटवर्क के जरिए ऐसे फार्मेट में उपलब्ध होंगे जिन्हें मशीन से भी और बिना उसके भी पढ़ा जा सकेगा। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि यह नीति राष्ट्रीय नियोजन और विकास के लिए केन्द्र सरकार के आंकड़ों तक पहुंच और आंकड़ों के आदान-प्रदान के लिए बनाई गई है।
केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के रक्षा उपक्रमों द्वारा संयुक्त उद्यम लगाने के लिए दिशा-निर्देशों को भी मंजूरी दी। इन दिशा-निर्देशों से रक्षा क्षेत्र में संयुक्त उद्यम लगाने की प्रक्रिया को सुचारू, निष्पक्ष और पारदर्शी बनाया जा सकेगा। उम्मीद है कि इस दिशा-निर्देशों से सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के रक्षा प्रतिष्ठानों और उनके निजी क्षेत्र की कंपनियों के बीच ज्यादा अच्छी भागीदारी विकसित हो सकेगी।

गुजरात में अहमदाबाद में एक अदालत ने उच्चतम न्यायालय द्वारा नियुक्त विशेष जांच एजेंसी को जकिया जाफरी मामले में सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता तीस्ता सितलवाड़ और मुकुल सिन्हा की दो अलग-अलग याचिका पर नोटिस जारी किए। अपनी याचिकाओं में तीस्ता सितलवाड़ और मुकुल सिन्हा ने इस मामले में विशेष जांच एजेंसी की रिपोर्ट की प्रतियां मांगी है। मामले की अगली सुनवाई सोमवार को होगी।
विशेष जांच एजेंसी ने पूर्व कांग्रेस सांसद एहसान जाफरी की पत्नी जकिया जाफरी की शिकायत के बारे में कल अपनी अंतिम रिपोर्ट सीलबंद लिफाफे में दी थी। इस बारे में आधिकारिक तौर पर कोई पुष्टि नहीं की गई है कि इस रिपोर्ट में मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी को क्लीनचिट दी गई है या नहीं और उनके खिलाफ मामले बंद किए गए हैं या नहीं।
जकिया जाफरी ने अपनी शिकायत में गुजरात के मुख्यमंत्री और ५७ अन्य लोगों पर साम्प्रदायिक दंगे भड़काने और उन्हें सहायता देने का आरोप लगाते हुए मुकदमा चलाने की मांग की थी। हमारे अहमदाबाद संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि पूर्व कांग्रेस सांसद एहसान जाफरी २००२ में गोधरा कांड के बाद हुए दंगों में गुलबर्ग हाउसिंग सोसायटी में मारे गए उन्हत्तर लोगों में शामिल थे।

केरल में राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी ने आज कोच्चि में कश्मीर भर्ती मामले में विशेष अदालत में थाडीयान्तेविदा नासिर, शफाज+ और अन्य अभियुक्तों के खिलाफ आरोप तय किये। अदालत इस बारे में इस महीने की १५ तारीख को फैसला सुनायेगी। यह मामला लश्करे तैयबा संगठन के साथ मिलकर राष्ट्र विरोधी गतिविधियां करने के लिए केरल के कई लड़कों की भर्ती से संबंधित है। अभियुक्तों पर राष्ट्र विरोधी गतिविधियों में शामिल होने और देश के खिलाफ युद्ध छेड़ने के आरोप लगाये गए हैं। इस मामले के २४ अभियुक्तों में से चार की सुरक्षाबलों के साथ मुठभेड़ में मृत्यु हो गई जबकि एक पाकिस्तानी नागरिक वली अब्दुल रहमान सहित दो अन्य फरार हैं।

इलाहाबाद के उच्च न्यायालय ने आज केंद्रीय सरकार से कहा है कि पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश के जिलों में जापानी बुखार निवारण कार्यक्रम के लिए धन उपलब्ध कराते समय सतर्कता बरते। राज्य में नीम-हकीमों के खिलाफ दायर याचिका पर सुनवाई करते हुए न्यायालय ने गौरखपुर और पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश के कई अन्य जिलों में जापान बुखार के मामलों पर स्वयं ही संज्ञान लिया। न्यायालय ने केंद्र सरकार से कोष जारी करने से पहले सावधानी बरतने और राज्य सरकारों के प्रस्तावों की जांच करने को कहा है। न्यायमूर्ति सुनील अम्बावाणी और न्यायमूर्ति मनोज मिश्र ने पाया कि सीबीआई राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन योजना के अंतर्गत दिए जाने वाले फंड के दुरूपयोग की जांच कर रही है।

उत्तरप्रदेश विधानसभा चुनावों के दूसरे चरण का चुनाव प्रचार आज शाम समाप्त हो जायेगा। इस चरण में नौ जिलों के ५९ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में शनिवार को मतदान होगा। दूसरे चरण में ७६ महिलाओं सहित कुल एक हजार ९८ उम्मीदवार के चुनावी भाग्य का फैसला इस चरण में होगा। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि प्रचार के अंतिम दौर में राष्ट्रीय और क्षेत्रीय पार्टियों के कार्यकर्त्ता तथा उम्मीदवार मतदाताओं को लुभाने में कोई कोर कसर छोड़ना नहीं चाहते।

पूर्वांचल अक्सर ये इलाका राजनीतिज्ञों के भविष्य और अगली सरकार का स्वरूप तय करता है। इस पूर्वी इलाकें के लिए बाढ़, गन्ना उत्पादन और दिमागी बुखार की एक समान समस्याएं है, यानी विकास और बुनियादी सुविधाये एक प्रमुख मुद्दा है। राजनीतिक दलों ने इसी पर ज्यादा जोर दिया है। इस बार ओलेमा काउंसिल और पीस पार्टीं जैसी छोटी पार्टियों के उम्मीदवारों के खड़े होने से बड़ी पार्टियों के वोट बैंक में सेंध लगना निश्चित दिख रहा है। पिछले २५ दिनों में इस क्षेत्र में राष्ट्रीय दलों के नेता सोनिया और राहुल गांधी, नितिन गडकरी, लालकृष्ण आडवाणी,  मुरली मनोहर जोशी, मायावती और अमर सिंह चुनाव प्रचार कर चुके है। हर पार्टी अच्छी सरकार और विकास के नाम पर वोट मांग रही है, लेकिन समीकरण जातिगत और समुदायगत आधार पर लगाये जा रहे है। इसी आधार पर ही पार्टी प्रत्याशी की हार जीत का आकंलन भी किया जा रहा है। सलमान हैदर, आकाशवाणी समाचार, गोरखपुर।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने गोवा विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए आज अपने उम्मीदवारों की दूसरी सूची जारी की। इस सूची में छह उम्मीदवारों के नाम शामिल हैं। आज नई दिल्ली में पार्टी की केन्द्रीय चुनाव समिति की बैठक में इन नामों को अंतिम रूप दिया गया। राज्य में ४० सदस्यों की विधानसभा के लिए तीन मार्च को वोट डाले जाएंगे। भाजपा ने अब तक २८ उम्मीदवारों के नामों की घोषणा कर दी है। इनमें बिचोलिम विधानसभा सीट से मनोहर शिरोडकर, तिविम सीट से किरण कांडोलकर और मड़गाव से रूपेश रजनीकांत महात्मे का नाम शामिल है।

बिहार में सुरक्षा बलों ने नक्सल प्रभावित जमुई जिले में माओवादियों के दो बंकरों को नष्ट कर दिया और भारी मात्रा में हथियार और गोली-बारूद बरामद किया। पुलिस ने इस जिले के बारहेट थाने के तहत आने वाले वन क्षेत्र से एक हजार से अधिक जलेटिन की छड़ें, पांच सौ डेटोनेटर, २५ ग्रेनेड और पुलिसवर्दियां बरामद कीं। पुलिस अधीक्षक उपेन्द्र शर्मा ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि माओवादी इस इलाके में शिविर चला रहे हैं। जमुई जिले के वन क्षेत्रों में माओवादियों के ठिकानों का पता लगाने के लिए व्यापक तलाशी अभियान जारी है।

राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने आज नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रपति भवन में आयोजित कार्यक्रम में इंडिया इंटरनेशनल सैन्टर की स्वर्ण जयन्ती पर एक विशेष स्मारक डाक टिकट जारी किया। इस अवसर पर संचार और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी राज्यमंत्री सचिन पायलट ने कहा कि इंडिया इंटरनेशनल सैन्टर ने जनमत बनाने और लोगों को जागरूक करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका अदा की है। उन्होंने कहा कि पांच रूपये के इस डाक टिकट में राष्ट्रीय छवि और देश की समृद्ध बहुमुखी संस्कृति को उभारा गया है। श्री पायलट ने कला, संस्कृति और बौद्धिक  विचार विमर्श में इंडिया इंटरनेशनल सैन्टर के योगदान को रेखांकित किया।
इस अवसर पर सैन्टर के अध्यक्ष पूर्व महाधिवक्ता सोली सोराबजी ने कहा कि इस केन्द्र ने समाज में बहुमूल्य योगदान दिया है और समय की शिला पर अपने पदचिन्ह छोड़े हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि यह टिकट दुनियाभर के डाक टिकट ंसंग्राहकों के लिए बहुत काम का है।

ओड़ीशा में जहरीली शराब पीने से मरने वालों की संख्या ३३ हो गई है। ४० व्यक्ति अब भी कटक अस्पताल में जीवन के लिए संघर्ष कर रहे हैं। बहुत से अन्य बीमार लोगों को भुवनेश्वर में निजी अस्पतालों में भर्ती कराया गया है। कटक के महिधरपाड़ा और बलियांता इलाके और पड़ोस के खुरदा जिले के कई गांवों में लोग जहरीली शराब पीने से मरे हैं। लेकिन ओड़ीशा सरकार ने दावा किया है कि ये मौतें दो दवाइयों को लेने से हुई हैं। इसलिए पुलिस ने राज्य के विभिन्न भागों में दवा की दुकानों पर व्यापक रूप से छापे मारे हैं यह पता लगाने के लिए कि क्या  अब भी दवा की दुकानो ंपर ये दवाएं मिल रही हैं। पुलिस ने दो औषधि कंपनियों पर छापा मारा है और उन्हें इन दवाओं को शराब माफिया को कथित रूप से बेचने के आरोप में सील कर दिया है। पुलिस ने कहा है कि दो मामले दर्ज किये गए हैं और दस लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। इनमें शराब माफिया के तीन रिश्तेदार और औषधि कंपनियों के सात अधिकारी शामिल हैं।

केन्द्रीय प्रवासी मामलों के मंत्री वायलार रवि ने आज केन्द्र और राज्य सरकारों से अनुरोध किया कि  वे गैर संचारी रोगों के उपचार के लिए आयुर्वेद के इलाज को बढ़ावा देने के लिए प्रभावी कदम उठायें। उन्होंने आज तिरूवनंतपुरम में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आयुर्वेद उत्सव २०१२ का उद्घाटन किया। छह दिन के इस उत्सव में बीस देशों के दो हजार प्रतिनिधि भाग ले रहे हैं।

पाकिस्तान के सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कहा है कि अगर प्रधानमंत्री यूसूफ रज+ा गिलानी स्विस अधिकारियों को राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली ज+रदारी के खिलाफ रिश्वत मामले फिर चलाने के लिए पत्र लिख दें तो श्री गिलानी के खिलाफ अदालत की अवमानना कार्रवाई स्वतः रूक जाएगी। मुख्य न्यायाधीश इफ्तिखार चौधरी ने श्री गिलानी की उस अपील पर सुनवाई के दौरान यह टिप्पणी दी। श्री गिलानी ने राष्ट्रपति जरदारी के खिलाफ भ्रष्टाचार का मामला खोलने से इंकार करने के कारण हुई अदालत की अवमानना मामले में आरोप तैयार करने के लिए १३ फरवरी को बुलाए जाने के आदेश के खिलाफ अपील की थी। आठ न्यायाधीशों की खंडपीठ ने श्री गिलानी के वकील ऐतजाज+ अहसान को श्री गिलानी की अपील में से आपत्तिजनक अंश हटाने का भी निर्देश दिया, जिनमें श्री गिलानी ने अपने खिलाफ शुरू की गई अवमानना कार्रवाई पर सवाल उठाया है। हालांकि उन्होंने पूर्व सैनिक शासक परवेज मुशर्रफ के शासन के दौरान गिरफ्तार कई बड़े न्यायाधीशों को रिहा कर दिया था।

इस बीच, पाकिस्तान में उत्तरी वजीरीस्तान में आज तड़के ड्रोन हमले में चार नागरिक मारे गए। जियो न्यूज ने खबर दी है कि मानव रहित ड्रोन विमानों ने उत्तरी वजीरीस्तान के ऊपर चक्कर लगाना जारी रखा। कल इसी प्रान्त में ड्रोन हमलों में दस लोग मारे गए थे और कई घायल हो गए थे।

मालदीव के नये राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद वाहिद ने देशभर में भड़की हिंसा को तुरन्त रोकने के उद्देश्य से मंत्रियों की नियुक्ति कर दी है। पूर्व राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद नाशीद के यह कहने के बाद हिंसा भड़की है कि उन्हें तख्ता पलट के कारण इस्तीफा देना पड़ा। राष्ट्रपति के सहायक मोहम्मद शरीफ ने बताया कि राष्ट्रपति ने सेवा निवृत्त कर्नल मोहम्मद नाजि+म को रक्षा मंत्री और वकील मोहम्मद जमिल अहमद को गृहमंत्री बनाया है। टेलिविजन पर प्रसारित संवाददाता सम्मेलन में पूर्व राष्ट्रपति के इस्तीफे की घोषणा के कुछ घंटों बाद मोहम्मद वाहिद को शपथ दिलाई गई थी। मोहम्मद नाशीद ने बाद में दावा किया कि असल में सुरक्षा बलों की शह पर विपक्षी नेताओं ने तख्ता पलट की कार्रवाई को अंजाम दिया।
इस बीच, राजधानी माले में हजारों नाशीद समर्थकों और सुरक्षा बलों के बीच कल पुलिस और सैनिक मुख्यालयों के नजदीक झड़पे हुई। अपुष्ट खबरों के अनुसार इनमें तीन लोग मारे गए। रात भर हुई तेज वर्षा के कारण आज शहर की सड़कों पर शांति है।
उधर खबर है कि पूर्व राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद नशीद की पत्नी और बेटियां कोलम्बो चली गई हैं। बीबीसी ने अपुष्ट खबरों के हवाले से बताया है कि पूर्व राष्ट्रपति के      खिलाफ गिरफ्तारी वारंट जारी किया गया है।

अरब लीग ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र से आग्रह किया है कि सीरिया में संयुक्त राष्ट्र और अरब लीग का संयुक्त निगरानी दल भेजा जाए। लीग के अध्यक्ष नबी अल अरबी ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव बान-की-मून से बातचीत की और उनसे संयुक्त निगरानी मिशन की अध्यक्षता के लिए विशेष प्रतिनिधि नियुक्त करने को कहा। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि अरब लीग के विदेशमंत्री मिशन के भविष्य के बारे में काहिरा में रविवार को विचार विमर्श करेंगे।

सीरिया में जारी हिंसा को रोकने के लिए अरब लींग ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ के साथ प्रवेक्षक मिशन बनाने का प्रस्ताव रखा है, जिसके प्रमुख संयुक्त राष्ट्र के विशेष दूत होंगे। इसका कार्य क्षेत्र  यापक होगा और इसमें अरब जगत के अलावा अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय प्रवेक्षक शामिल होंगे और उनकी संख्या पहले से ज्यादा होगी। संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव बान की मून ने कहा है कि इस बारे में सुरक्षा परिषद चर्चा कर कोई फैसला लेगी। संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रवेक्षकों को प्रशिक्षण और तकनीकी मदद दे सकता है। अरब लीग के प्रमुख नबीअल अरबी ने कहा कि इस नये मिशन की मंजूरी पर सीरिया की रजामंदी लेनी होगी। दिसम्बर में अरब लीग ने १६५ सदस्यों वाले प्रवेक्षक दल को सीरिया भेजा था। मगर वहां बढ़ती हिंसा के बीच मिशन को रोक दिया गया। छह खाड़ी देशो तथा जॉर्डन और मुरक्को ने अपने प्रतिनिधियों को टीम से वापस बुला लिया था।  मगर बाकी देशों के प्रतिनिधि अभी भी सीरिया में मौजूद है। अतुल तिवारी, आकाशवाणी समाचार।

नेपाल में सरकार ने देश में एक दशक तक चली अस्थिरता के दौरान समानान्तर माओवादी द्वारा सरकार द्वारा किए गए भूमि सौदों को कानूनी बनाने के मंत्रिमंडल के फैसले को लागू न करने का निर्णय लिया है। इस फैसले पर रोक लगाने के सुप्रीम कोर्ट के आदेश और विपक्ष के रूख को देखते हुए नेपाल मंत्रिमंडल की आज सुबह बैठक हुई जिसमें इस फैसले पर अमल न करने का निर्णय लिया गया। स्थानीय विकास मंत्री तोप बहादुर रायामांझी ने कहा है कि सरकार इस बारे में कोई वैकल्पिक समाधान ढूंढने के लिए अन्य दलों के साथ बातचीत करेगी।

शारजाह में अवैध शराब के धंधे और एक पाकिस्तानी की हत्या के आरोपों के आपराधिक मामले में अदालत से सजा पाये १७ भारतीयों को जल्दी ही भारत वापिस भेजे जाने की संभावना है क्योंकि वे छह महीने की कैद की सजा पूरी कर चुके हैं। इन १७ भारतीयों के वकील ने कहा है कि मारपीट की इस घटना में घायल दो लोगों के मुआवजे के मामले का फैसला होने के बाद ये भारतीय स्वदेश लौट सकेंगे क्योंकि वे अपनी जेल की सजा पूरी कर चुके हैं। ये भारतीय २००९ से जेल में हैं।

इथोपिया में  चल रही विभिन्न पर्यटन गतिविधियों में सक्रिय रूचि दिखाते हुए वहां पर्यटन को बढ़ावा देने में भारत से मदद मांगी है। एक आधिकारिक विज्ञप्ति में बताया गया है कि इथोपिया के पर्यटन और संस्कृति राज्य मंत्री ताडेलेक दालचो ने नई दिल्ली में पर्यटन सचिव आर एच ख्वाजा से मुलाकात की और उनसे अपने देश में पर्यटन के विकास में भारत की मदद मांगी। दोनों देशों के बीच लंबे समय से चले आ रहे ऐतिहासिक और सांस्कृतिक संबंधों का हवाला देते हुए श्री ख्वाजा ने कहा कि दोनों देशों के राजनीतिक, वाणिज्यिक, सांस्कृतिक और अन्य क्षेत्रों में सौहार्दपूर्ण संबंध हैं।

मिस्र में प्रधानमंत्री कमाल अल गंज+ूरी ने स्पष्ट किया है कि सैनिक शासक जून तक की निर्धारित अवधि से पहले पद से नहीं हटेंगे। उन्होंने सत्ता तेजी से असैनिक शासकों को सौंपने की मांगों के खिलाफ चेतावनी दी और कहा कि २००३ में अमरीकी हमले के बाद इराक में  किस तरह सैनिक सत्ता खत्म हो गई थी। उन्होंने कहा कि इराक में सैनिक शासन खत्म होने से वहां गृह युद्ध छिड़ गया था। श्री गंज+ूरी ने मिस्र के लोगों से इस संकट की घड़ी में एकजुट रहने की अपील की।

विशाल बांधों और पनबिजली परियोजनाओं के जमाने में असम के एक गांववासी ने बिजली पैदा करने का एक अद्भुत तरीका विकसित किया है। कामरूप जिले के जियाकुर गांव के निवासी नृपेन कालिता ने ऐसा टर्बाइन विकसित किया है जिसमें पानी इकट्ठा करने की जरूरत नहीं है। इस टर्बाइन से चलते पानी से बिजली बनाई जा सकती है और साथ ही ये सिंचाई और अन्य कार्यों के लिए पानी भी पम्प करता है। नृपेन कालिता के अनुसार टर्बाइन लगाने और बिजली पैदा करने पर करीब १२ हजार रूपये की लागत आएगी। ब्यौरा हमारे संवाददाता से-

आवश्यकता ही अविष्कार की जननी है। इस कहावत को सही साबित करते हुए ४८ साल उम्र के एक मैकेनिक ने अपने घर के बिजली उत्पन्न करने के इरादे से टर्बाइन बनाने का काम शुरू किया। वो टर्बाइन और पम्प के दो संस्करण बनाये थे। पहले वो एक बांस के जरिये नदी के प्रवाह से ऊर्जा उत्पन्न करने के लिए पम्प टर्बाइन विकसित किया। बाद में एक स्वयं संस्था की मदद से बांस के जगह टर्बाइन में लोहे जोड़ दिये। ये टर्बाइन हर दिन एक किलोवाट तक बिजली उत्पन्न कर सकता है, जिससे पांच बीघा जमीन पर सिंचाई कर सकते है। इस टर्बाइन का दूसरा पहलू ये है कि ये सादे और पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों में स्थापित किया जा सकता है। नेशनल इनोग्रेशन फेडरेशन पुरस्कार विजेता नृपेन क्रेजा को इस  टर्बाइन के लिए अंतरिम पेटेंट मिल चुके है। मानस प्रतिम शर्मा, आकाशवाणी समाचार, गुवाहाटी।

मध्यप्रदेश में दो दिन का अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सहकारिता सम्मेलन आज से भोपाल में शुरू हुआ। राज्य सरकार के सहयोग से सहकार भारती इस सम्मेलन का आयोजन कर रही है। मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने इस सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन किया। सम्मेलन का विषय रखा गया है-सहकारिता के इस्तेमाल द्वारा सामाजिक और आर्थिक बदलाव। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि सम्मेलन के आठ सत्र होंगे।

बम्बई शेयर बाजार के संवेदी सूचकांक में आज शुरूआती कारोबार में ७८ अंकों से अधिक की गिरावट आई। एशियाई बाजारों में गिरावट के रूख और फंडों की ताजा बिकवाली के कारण ऐसा हुआ। अब से कुछ देर पहले  सेंसेक्स २२ अंक गिरकर  १७ हजार ६८७ पर था।
नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी १५ अंकों की गिरावट के साथ खुला। अब से कुछ देर पहले ५ हजार ३७०  पर था।
रूपया आज डॉलर के मुकाबले १९ पैसे कमजोर हुआ। अंतरबैंक विदेशी मुद्रा बाजार में एक डॉलर की कीमत ४९ रूपये ३४ पैसे बोली गई।

इस वर्ष जनवरी में देश के निर्यात में पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि के मुकाबले दस दशमलव एक प्रतिशत की वृद्धि हुई और ये २५ अरब ४० करोड़ डॉलर का रहा जबकि आयात में २० दशमलव तीन प्रतिशत की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई। वाणिज्य सचिव राहुल खुल्लर ने आज नई दिल्ली में बताया कि जनवरी में ४० अरब दस करोड़ डॉलर का आयात हुआ।

भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कला और सांस्कृतिक धरोहर ट्रस्ट ने ऐतिहासिक स्मारकों के संरक्षण के कार्य में केन्द्र सरकार से और सहायता की मांग की है। ट्रस्ट के अध्यक्ष अवकाश प्राप्त मेजर जनरल एल के गुप्ता ने राजधानी में ऐसी विभिन्न ऐतिहासिक इमारतों के संरक्षण के लिए सरकार से सहायता की मांग की जिनकी देखभाल भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण विभाग नहीं कर रहा है। श्री गुप्ता ने कहा कि उनका ट्रस्ट स्मारकों के संरक्षण में सक्रिय भूमिका निभा रहा है, इसलिए वह ऐसी ऐतिहासिक इमारतों की देखभाल में पूरी सहायता कर सकता है। सांस्कृतिक मामलों की मंत्री कुमारी सैलजा ने कल नई दिल्ली में इस ट्रस्ट के मुख्यालय का दौरा किया।

The government today approved setting up of a national centre for cold chain development and allocated a one-time grant of 25 crore rupees for its corpus fund. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The move comes in the wake of post harvest losses to the tune of 50,000 crore rupees annually in absence of proper storage facilities.

The Cabinet gave its ex-post facto approval for registering National Centre for Cold Chain Development, NCCD, as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The NCCD will be having a Governing Council under the Chairmanship of Secretary with 22 members, covering government officials, Confederation of Indian Industry, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, FICCI and other stake holders.

Our correspondent reports that India is the second largest producer of horticultural commodities in the world. However, a significant portion of the produce, particularly perishables like fruits, vegetables, flowers go waste due to post harvest losses. A robust cold chain infrastructure will go a long way in reducing the losses of perishables.

India, the world's second largest producer of horticulture products after China , accounts for 71.5 million tonnes of fruits, 133.7 million tonnes of vegetables and 17.8 million tonnes of other commodities like flowers, spices, coconut, cashew, mushroom, honey among others. A significant portion of the produce like fruits, vegetables, flowers go waste due to post harvest losses in absence of proper cold storage facilities. A Parliamentary panel has also pointed out that post harvest losses of fruits and vegetables are as high as 35 per cent, valuing more than 50,000 crore rupees annually. Earlier the government had constituted a Task Force in 2008 on cold chain development to assess the situation. The Task Force had recommended formation of a dedicated institution for promoting cold chain development. A robust cold chain infrastructure will go a long way in reducing the losses of perishables. In another decision, cabinet today approved the National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy (NDSAP-2012) to facilitate access to central government owned shareable data and information. The data can be shared in both human readable and machine readable formats through a network across the country.

Our correspondent reports, the NDSAP policy is designed to promote data sharing and enable access to central government owned data for national planning and development. The Union Cabinet also approved the guidelines for establishing Joint Venture Companies by Defence Public Sector Undertakings, DPSUs.

The guidelines will provide a streamlined, fair and transparent framework for entering into Joint Ventures with the ultimate objective of better risk-management, greater-efficiency and enhancing self-reliance in the defence sector as a whole. It is expected that the guidelines will foster better and deeper partnerships between the DPSUs and private partners.

In Gujarat, a magisterial court in Ahmedabad today issued notices to the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigating Agency, SIT, after social activists Teesta Setalvad and Mukul Sinha filed two separate applications in the Zakia Jaffery case. In their applications, Setalvad and Sinha have sought the copies of the SIT report filed in the case. The next hearing in the case will be on monday.

The SIT yesterday filed a closure report in the sealed cover on the complaint of Jaffery, wife of ex-Congress MP Ehsan Jaffery. However, there was no official confirmation whether the closure report had given a clean chit to Chief Minister Narendra Modi and closed the cases against him.

In Kerala, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) framed charges against Thadiyantevida Nasir, Shafaz and other accused in the Kashmir Recruitment case at the NIA Special Court in Kochi today. The court will decide the date of commencement of trial on the 15th of this month.

The case relates to the recruitment of several youths from Kerala to carry out anti-national activities, conspiring with the banned Lakshkar-e-Toiba outfit. The accused are charged with anti-national activities and waging war against the nation.

Of the 24 accused in the case, four died in encounters with the security forces in Kashmir, while two others, including a Pakistan national Wali Abdul Rahman are absconding.

In Uttar Pradesh, the poll campaigning for the second phase of assembly elections will end this evening. 59 assembly segments spread over 9 districts of the state are going to poll in this phase of election on Saturday. A total of the 1098 candidates including 76 females and one eunuch are trying their luck in this phase.

The national parties have fielded 192 candidates including 18 females in the second phase. Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the national as well as newly emerged regional parties are staking their claim in this phase.

Top leaders of the ruling BSP, Samajwadi Party, BJP and Congress have campaigned at micro level.

The BJP today announced the second list of candidates for the Goa Assembly elections. The list which contains the names of six candidates was finalised in the Central Election Committee meeting of the Party held in New Delhi today.

The election in the State for 40 assembly seats will be held on the 3rd of March. With this list, the BJP has so far announced 28 candidates.

The names include Manohar Shirodkar from Bicholim Assembly seat, Kiran Kandolkar from Tivim seat and Rupesh Rajanikant Mahatme from Margao seat.

In Bihar, security forces destroyed two bunkers of Maoists and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in Naxal-affected Jamui district. Police recovered over one thousand gelatin sticks, 500 detonators 25 grenades and police uniforms from forest area under Barhet police station of the district.

The Superintendent of Police Upender Sharma told AIR that Maoists were running camps in the area. Massive combing operation is continuing to locate the hideouts of Maoists in the forest areas of the district.

In Odisha, more than 40 people who fell ill after drinking spurious liquor have been struggling for life at different hospitals of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The killer liquor mixture has so far claimed 33 lives. Deaths have taken place in several villages spread over Mahidharpada and Balianta areas of Cuttack and adjoining Khurda districts of Odisha.

However, the Odisha government has said that the consumption of two medicines, Epee-carm and Concentrated Cinnamon, have caused the illness and deaths. Police launched a crackdown on chemist shops in different parts of the state to find out if the medicines were still available.

They also raided the factories of two pharmaceutical companies in Bhubaneswar and sealed them for allegedly supplying the medicines to the hooch kingpin and to various shops. Police said two cases have been registered and 10 people have been arrested. They include three relatives of the hooch kingpin and seven officials of the pharmaceutical companies.

The Pakistan Supreme Court today said that the contempt of court proceedings against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would automatically end if the Chief Executive writes a letter to Swiss authorities to re-open graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry made the remarks while hearing Gilani's appeal against an order summoning him on February the 13th for the framing of charges in a contempt of court case for refusing to open corruption cases against President Zardari.

The eight-judge bench also directed Gilani's lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan to remove some objectionable paragraphs from Gilani's appeal. In these paragraphs, Gilani had questioned the contempt case initiated against him, even though he had freed several top judges, who had been detained by the regime of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

Yesterday, Ahsan had filed Gilani's appeal against a different bench's order summoning him on February the 13th for the framing on contempt of court charges. On February 2nd, a seven-judge bench of the apex court had summoned Gilani to appear on February 13th in the matter.

New President of the Maldives Mohamed Waheed has made urgent Cabinet appointments to try and contain violence, that has spread across the archipelago, after his predecessor Mohammed Nasheed said that he was forced to resign in a coup.

The Presidential aide Mohamed Shareef today said that the President appointed Retired Colonel Mohamed Nazim as Defence Minister and lawyer Mohamed Jameel Ahmed as Home Minister. Waheed was sworn in on Tuesday just hours after his predecessor announced his resignation in a televised press conference.

Nasheed later claimed that he had been forced to step down in what was an effective coup d'etat orchestrated by opposition leaders with the backing of the security forces. In the capital Male, thousands of pro-Nasheed protesters clashed with security forces near the police and military headquarters yesterday, with unconfirmed media reports of three people being killed.

The streets of the city remained calm today following heavy overnight rain. Meanwhile, the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Robert Blake, will travel to Maldives to have a firsthand assessment of the current crisis in the island nation.

Meanwhile, the wife and daughters of former Maldives' president Mohamed Nasheed have fled to Colombo. BBC quoting unconfirmed reports said that an arrest warrant has been issued for the former President Nasheed.

The UN might train the monitors going to Syria. Arab League Chief Nabil Al Arabi said the new mission would require Syria’s approval. The Observer’s mission earlier went to Syria in December with 165 members, it was suspended by the Arab League on 28th January due to increasing violence there. The 17 Indians sentenced by a Sharjah Appeal court in a criminal case on charges of bootlegging and murder of a Pakistani are likely to be deported to India shortly since they have already completed their Six-month jail term.

The defence lawyer for the 17 Indians said once the civil case in which two of the injured are seeking compensation is settled, the 17 Indians will be able to return to India since they have served their term in prison.

The 17 Indians have been in jail since 2009 for bootlegging murder of a Pakistani and assaulting three others in the Al Sharjah camp. An Appellate Court in Sharjah pronounced six month jail term for 17 Indians for consuming and selling alcohol.

In Egypt, the Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri has made it clear that the military rulers will not leave office before the end of June as scheduled. He warned against calls for the speedy transfer of power to a civilian administration, recalling the fall of the Iraqi army after the U.S. invasion in 2003. He said the Iraqi army’s demise pushed the country down the path to civil war.

Ganzouri urged Egyptians to unite in the hour of crisis. He said the conditions in Egypt are worse than after the country’s crushing military defeat in 1967 against Israel. Ganzouri also warned that Egypt was the backbone of the Middle East, a region in flux at the moment, and if Egypt falls, the whole region will follow.

In South Korea, the parliamentary speaker Park Hee-tae announced his exit today amid allegations that he attempted to bribe his way to the chairmanship of the ruling party in 2008. Park said in a statement read by parliamentary spokesman Han Jong-tae that he feels responsible for the problems and intend to resign.

Park has been under pressure to resign after Koh Seung-duk of the ruling Saenuri Party, formerly the Grand National Party, claimed Park's aide offered him an envelope containing over 2,680 U.S. dollars in an attempt to buy his vote before the party leadership contest. Park, has denied his involvement in the alleged vote-buying scandal.

In a period of mega dam and hydro electric projects, a villager of Assam has developed a unique method to generate electricity. Nripen Kalita, a resident of Jiakur village in Kamrup district developed the Zero -Head Water turbine which generates electric energy from moving water and concurrently pumps the water for irrigation and other purposes.

Talking to AIR, Nripen Kalita said that it cost around 12 thousand rupees to set up the turbine and produce electricity. A Report;

It is said that necessity is the mother of invention. Proving the saying true, the 48 years old mechanic initially designed the turbine to generate electricity for his home. He designed two variants of turbine and pump models. At first, he developed a water turbine using bamboo for harnessing the flow energy from the river to pump water to other places. Later with the help of a voluntary organisation; he developed the turbine by replacing bamboo with iron. The turbine could generate 1 kilowatt electricity daily. The rupee depreciated by 19 paise to 49.34 rupees per dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today. It had closed at 49.15 against the American currency yesterday. Dealers said besides dollar gains against other Asian currencies, a weak opening in the stock market amid foreign fund outflows put pressure on the rupee.

Exports grew by 10.1 per cent year-on-year to 25.4 billion US dollar in January while imports increased by 20.3 per cent. Speaking to Media persons in New Delhi today, Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar said imports stood at 40.1 billion US dollar in January this year resulting in a trade deficit of 14.7 billion dollars. He said, during April-January 2011-12, the country's exports increased by 23.5 per cent to 242.8 billion US dollar. Mr Khullar said, imports grew by 29.4 per cent to 391.5 billion US dollar during the 10 months period.

सरकार ने, रक्षा क्षेत्र में सार्वजनिक और निजी कंपनियों के संयुक्त उद्यम लगाने के रक्षा मंत्रालय के दिशा-निर्देशों को मंजूरी दे दी है। इससे विदेशी स्रोतों से आधुनिक प्रौद्योगिकी प्राप्त करने के अवसर बढ़ेंगे। यह फैसला, प्रधानमंत्री की अध्यक्षता में हुई मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक में लिया गया। इन दिशा-निर्देशों से हिस्सेदारों के चयन में पारदर्शिता और निष्पक्षता आएगी।
एक अन्य फैसले में मंत्रिमंडल ने केन्द्र सरकार के आंकड़ों और सूचनाओं को प्राप्त करने में मदद के लिए राष्ट्रीय डाटा आदान-प्रदान और उस तक पहुंच की राष्ट्रीय नीति को भी मंजूरी दे दी है।
सरकार ने राष्ट्रीय शीत भंडारण के विकास के लिए राष्ट्रीय केन्द्र बनाने को मंजूरी दे दी है। इसके लिए २५ करोड़ रुपये के एक मुश्त अनुदान को भी स्वीकृति दे दी गई है।
केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने आज सोसायटी पंजीकरण अधिनियम के अंतर्गत राष्ट्रीय शीत भंडारण केन्द्र के सोसायटी के रूप में पंजीकरण की अनुमति दे दी है।

प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने केन्द्रीय मंत्रालयों को रेलवे की माल गलियारा परियोजना को उच्च प्राथमिकता देने को कहा है। इस परियोजना पर लगभग एक लाख करोड़ रूपये की लागत आएगी। आज शाम नई दिल्ली में प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय में हुई एक बैठक में राज्यों के प्रतिनिधियों और मुख्य सचिवों ने इस परियोजना के लिए पूरा सहयोग देने का आश्वासन दिया। बैठक में यह फैसला किया गया कि इस परियोजना के लिए तेजी से जमीन लेने और इससे जुड़े अन्य मुद्दे सुलझाने के लिए राज्य सरकारें निगरानी समितियां बनाएंगी।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि ये परियोजना तीन हजार तीन सौ किलोमीटर से अधिक के दायरे में देश के विभिन्न स्थानों को जोड़ेगी।

खाद्य, उपभोक्ता मामलों और सार्वजनिक वितरण राज्य मंत्री के. वी. थॉमस ने कहा है कि केन्द्र सरकार, अनाज की ढुलाई के लिए रेलवे के साथ मिलकर विशेष रेललाइनों, खास किस्म के वैगन और वाहन तैयार करने के बारे मे काम रही है। उन्होंने बताया कि सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणाली पर आज दिल्ली मे संपन्न दो दिन के सम्मेलन में खाद्य सुरक्षा विधेयक से संबंधित मुद्दों पर विचार किया गया। श्री थॉमस ने बताया कि सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणाली के आधुनिकीकरण और फर्जी राशन कार्ड की समस्या से निपटने के प्रयास जारी हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि गुजरात, आंध्रप्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र और छत्तीसगढ़ सहित कई राज्यों से कम्प्यूटरीकरण, आधार और बॉयो- मीट्रिक प्रणाली के कारण काफी अच्छे नतीजे मिले हैं।

कई राज्यों ने बहुत अच्छा काम किया हैं। राज्यों को किसी भी आधुनिक योजना को अपनाने की आजादी है। हमने उन्हें कम्प्यूटरीकरण का सुझाव दिया है। राज्यों ने वित्तीय और तकनीकी सहयोग मांगा है और इस पर हमारा रूख सकारात्मक है।

योजना आयोग के उपाध्यक्ष मोंटेक सिंह अहलुवालिया ने राज्यों से खाद्यान्नों की खरीद, भंडारण और वितरण को सुचारू बनाने को कहा है। आज नई दिल्ली में एक सम्मेलन में उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसा करके हर वर्ष सात हजार करोड़ रुपये की बचत की जा सकती है। श्री मोंटेक सिंह ने कहा कि भंडारण सुविधाओं के आधुनिकीकरण, खाद्यान्न उत्पादन बढ़ाने तथा वितरण में आधुनिक प्रौद्योगिकी अपनाने जैसे उपाय करने की जरूरत है। उन्होंने कहा कि इन सभी कार्यों में राज्य सरकारों को महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभानी होगी।

ओड़ीशा के आबकारी मंत्री ए. यू. सिंहदेव ने जहरीली शराब त्रासदी की नैतिक जिम्मेदारी लेते हुए आज अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया।
इस दुखद घटना में अब तक ३३ लोगों की मौत हुई है। इस घटना को लेकर श्री सिंहदेव के इस्तीफे के लिए विपक्षी दलों - कांग्रेस और भारतीय जनता पार्टी का काफी दबाव था। जहरीली शराब पीने वाले चालीस से अधिक लोग अब भी कटक और भुवनेश्वर के विभिन्न अस्पतालों में जिन्दगी के लिए संघर्ष कर रहे हैं।

उत्तर प्रदेश विधानसभा चुनाव के दूसरे चरण का प्रचार आज शाम समाप्त हो गया। इस चरण में पूर्वी क्षेत्रों के नौ जिलों की ५९ सीटों के लिए शनिवार को वोट डाले जाएंगे। ये जिले है- संतकबीर नगर, महाराजगंज, गोरखपुर, कुशीनगर, देवरिया, आजमगढ़, मऊ, गाजीपुर और बलिया। इस चरण में एक हजार ९८ उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि चुनाव के दौरान अपराधियों और समाज विरोधी तत्वों पर नजर रखने के लिए अंतर्राज्यीय सीमा सील कर दी गई है।

राज्य के दूसरे चरण के मतदान के लिए करीब ४८ घंटे का ही समय बचा है पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश के नौ जिलों की ५९ विधानसभा सीटों पर होने वाले चुनाव में लगभग एक करोड़ ९२ लाख मतदाता वोट डाल सकेंगे। राज्य के पहले चरण के चुनाव में खराब मौसम के बावजूद हुए भारी मतदान ने यह विश्वास दिलाया की इस दौर में भी बढ़ी संख्या में लोग अपना मताधिकार का इस्तेमाल करेंगे। सुरक्षा के व्यापक बंदोबस्त के बीच पूर्वी जि+लों की नेपाल से लगने वाली सीमाओं पर भी कड़ी नज+र रखी जा रही है।

कांगे्रस ने भारतीय जनता पार्टी पर भ्रष्टाचार को बढ़ावा देने और घटिया राजनीति करने का आरोप लगाया है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता अभिषेक मनुसिंघवी ने आज नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों को बताया कि कर्नाटक के मंत्रियों द्वारा विधानसभा में अश्लील चित्र देखे जाने की घटना ने भारतीय जनता पार्टी का पर्दाफाश कर दिया है। श्री सिंघवी का कहना था कि गुजरात में भारतीय जनता पार्टी की सरकार को सांप्रदायिक हिंसा की कोई चिंता नहीं है और उत्तराखंड में भाजपा सरकार भ्रष्टाचार में लिप्त है।

अनुसूचित जातियों और जनजातियों के सदस्यों को किसी भी प्रकार के अत्याचार का शिकार होने पर मिलने वाली न्यूनतम राहत राशि बढ़ा दी गई है। अभी तक इन लोगों, इनके परिवारजनों और इनके आश्रितों को बीस हजार रूपये से ढाई लाख रूपये की राहत दी जाती थी, लेकिन इसे पचास हजार रूपये से पांच लाख रूपये कर दिया गया है।

रेल विभाग ने एसी श्रेणी में इंटरनेट के जरिए बुक किये गये टिकट पर यात्रा करने वालों के लिए पहचान पत्र अनिवार्य करने का फैसला किया है। यह व्यवस्था १५ फरवरी से लागू होगी। इससे रेल गाड़ियों के आरक्षित टिकटों के दुरूपयोग और उसके हस्तांतरण में कमी आएगी। रेल मंत्रालय के अनुसार एसी श्रेणी के यात्रियों को मूल पहचान पत्र दिखाने होंगे। ऐसा नहीं करने पर उस यात्री को बिना टिकट माना जायेगा और नियमानुसार उससे जुर्माना लिया जायेगा।

Government today approved Defence Ministry guidelines for its public sector units (PSUs) to establish joint ventures, JV , with private firms to increase opportunities to obtain advanced technologies from foreign sources. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held in New Delhi under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

It is expected that the guidelines will foster better and deeper partnerships between the DPSUs and private partners, in order that substantive self-reliance is adequately achieved in the synergised environment.

In another decision, cabinet today approved the National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy to facilitate access to Central Government owned shareable data and information. Our correspondent reports, the NDSAP policy is designed to promote data sharing and enable access to central government owned data for national planning and development.

The government also approved setting up of a national centre for cold chain development and allocated a one-time grant of 25 crore rupees for its corpus fund.The Union Cabinet today gave its ex-post facto approval for registering National Centre for Cold Chain Development (NCCD) as a society under the Societies Registration Act.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has directed the central ministries to give top priority to the Dedicated Freight Corridor Project costing nearly one lakh crore rupees. In a meeting held in the Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi this evening, the Chief Secretaries and the representatives of the States assured their full cooperation in taking forward this important project.

It was decided that Monitoring Committees will be constituted by the State Governments to resolve the issues relating to the Dedicated Freight Corridor project especially land-acquisition in an expeditious manner. The representatives of the nodal authority Dedicated Freight Corridor Cooperation India Limited will be overseeing progress of work with the targeted project completion date being March 2017.

The Prime Minister’s Office will be closely monitoring progress of the project so that necessary action is taken in a time-bound manner.

It’s just about 48 hours left for the second phase of polling in the state.More than one crore 92 lakh voters could exercise their right in 59 constituencies of Nine eastern UP districts .Despite bad weather record polling was registered in the first phase elections.In the midst of strict security arrangements special surveillance have been kept on the bordering districts of indo- Nepal border. More than 120 people are still struggling for life in different hospitals of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar who fell ill following drinking of spurious liquor. Some of them are stated to be in a critical condition. Deaths due to drinking of spurious liquor have taken place in several villages spread over Mahidharpada and Balianta areas of Cuttack and adjoining Khurda districts of Odisha. Most of the dead and affected people are labourers. Police have so far arrested 10 persons in the case. The Odisha Government has already directed a judicial probe by a retired justice of Odisha High Court into the hooch tragedy. However, the opposition Congress and BJP have been demanding an impartial probe by CBI.

Both members of Congress and Janatha Dal (Secular) in Karnataka Assembly and Council met Governor H. R. Bharadwaj separately and sought dismissal of BJP led Government in Karnataka. Speaking to the media persons after submission of memorandum, the Congress legislative party leader Siddaramaiah said that Speaker of the Assembly K. G. Former Advocate General of Karnataka B.V. Acharya has said that he resigned after state government put pressure on him to quit as special public prosecutor in the wealth case against Tamilnadu Chief Minister. His comments are contradicting the Karnataka Chief Minister's claim who said government did not pressure him to resign as special public prosecutor. DMK has charged the BJP of forcing Acharya to resign to meet its political ends. The BJP has however, denied it.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mrs. Ambika Soni described the incident as unfortunate.

New President of the Maldives Mohamed Waheed made urgent Cabinet appointments today in an effort to contain violence in the country. After his predecessor Mohammed Nasheed said that he was forced to resign in a coup.

The ex-president of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed, who claims he was forced from office in a coup, said he expected to be arrested today as protests and violence escalated in the holiday paradise. Nasheed, the Indian Ocean country's first democratically elected president, told AFP at his home in the capital that a court order had been issued for his detention and he anticipated being sent to jail.

Maldives police commissioner Abdulla Riyas said 18 police stations had been attacked on outlying islands in the archipelago, while numerous court and government buildings had been looted and torched. The violence began yesterday when thousands of Nasheed supporters massed in the capital Male following his resignation the day before.

The Bombay High Court has ordered Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods Institute to return 20 acres of land in suburban Goregaon to the Maharashtra government. A Division Bench of the court ordered Subhash Ghai to immediately vacate and hand over the 14.5 acre plot. Keeping in mind the duration of ongoing courses at the film training institute, the court asked the state government to take over the remaining 5.5 acre land, on which the institute stands, on 31^st July, 2014. The court has also restrained Whistling Woods from granting admissions to students for courses which will go beyond 2014^.
