Centre has decided to roll back the ban on cotton exports.  The Commerce and Textile Minister Mr. Anand Sharma today said in New Delhi that the formal order will be made public tomorrow. He said that keeping in view the interests of the farmers, industry and trade,  a balanced view has been considered by the Group of Ministers to roll back the ban. Our correspondent reports that the ban was imposed on the 5th of this month.  The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had asked the Group of Ministers to review the ban on cotton exports after receiving representations on the issue  from various quarters.
The decision to withdraw the ban on the export of cotton is a good news for cotton growers. They have been opposing the ban as it would affect their exports and incomes.  Cotton producers in Vidharbha region of Maharashtra have been resorting to suicides over the years for a variety of reasons and the ban on exports would have further aggravated their problems. India being the second largest producer of cotton, the interests of cotton producers need to be taken care of.
