Similar sentiments were shared by the EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton. She said she would approach the talks as a serious set of discussions that can lead to concrete results. Ashton represents United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany in the talks with Iran.. Negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program resumed in Istanbul in April after a gap of almost 15 months, and are due to resume on 23rd May in Baghdad. The sanctions have targeted Iran’s energy and banking sectors since the beginning of this year, and the EU is preparing for a total embargo on the purchase of Iranian crude oil in July. The Minister also asked the striking Air India pilots to apologise to passengers. He reminded the pilots that Air India is almost bankrupt and public money is being pumped in to revive the national carrier.
The minister said the process of revival is bound to see many problems and asked the airline employees to be patient. He said, pilots  should firmly say their views but not inconvenience the passengers and make Air India lose credibility.
We are still ready to talk.  The High Court said that the strike is illegal.  Pilots should call off their strike keeping passangers in their mind. Whatever the problems they have, we are ready to discuss.
Mr. Ajit Singh said, the government is mulling taking some aircraft on wet lease, as in such cases the planes come with a crew. He said that the government is also in touch with some retired pilots besides rationalising the flights operated by Air India.
Meanwhile, with the agitation by Air India pilots entering the fifth day today, the national carrier cancelled 16 flights from Delhi  and Mumbai even as senior pilots sought the Prime Minister's intervention to end the impasse.
