    "The star of the 2008
Beijing Games Sushil Kumar will be India’s flag bearer at the London Summer Olympics, coming at your doorsteps this 27th. Along with shooter Abhinav Bindra and pugilist Vijender Singh, Sushil Kumar did wonders in Beijing as he got India a medal in Wrestling after 56 years. It was the 1952 Helsinki Games, when KD Jadhav became the first man from India to clinch a medal in Wrestling. And in the last edition of the Games, Sushil Kumar bagged a bronze medal, ending India’s decades long wait. Besides leading India’s largest ever challenge to the Olympics, Sushil Kumar is heading the 5-player wrestling contingent, which also features India's first ever female wrestler, Geeta Phogat. A lot has been said about India’s chances at the London Games. Who-so-ever wins, the Olympic motto ‘Citius, Altius and Fortius’, which is Latin for ‘Faster, Higher and Stronger’ - will reverberate in the hearts of every player present at the biggest sporting extravaganza of 2012.

Mr. Pranab Mukherjee today became the 13th President of India. He was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India Sarosh Homi Kapadia at an impressive ceremony in the historic Central Hall of Parliament.

The veteran leader took the oath in English in the name of God to a thunderous applause and thumping of desks by those in the packed Central Hall that included Vice President Hamid Ansari, Speaker Meira Kumar, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and outgoing President Pratibha Patil. The gathering also included Cabinet Ministers, leaders of opposition, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, senior BJP leader L. K. Advani, Governors, Chief Ministers, MPs and  diplomats. Just after he took oath, he was offered a 21 gun salute marking the assumption of office of the highest Constitutional post in the country.
In his address, Mr. Mukherjee called corruption an evil that can depress the nation's  mood and sap its progress the new President affirmed that the greed of a few cannot be allowed to hijack the progress of the nation.

"Corruption is an evil that can depress the nation`s mood and sap its progress. We cannot allow our progress to be hijacked by the greed of a few."
Mr. Mukherjee also asserted that for the real development of the country, poorest of the land must feel that they are part of the narrative of rising India and poverty erased from the dictionary of modern India.

"There is no humiliation more abusive than hunger. Trickle-down theories do not address the legitimate aspirations of the poor. We must lift those at the bottom so that poverty is erased from the dictionary of modern India."
Terming terrorism as the fourth world war that the international community is facing, Mr. Mukherjee said that India has been on the frontlines of this war long before many others could recognize its consequences.  Mr. Mukherjee sounded firm in his opinion that those who instigate violence and perpetuate hatred need to understand the truth that few minutes of peace will achieve far more than many years of war. He reiterated that India will not be deflected in its mission by noxious practitioners  of terror.

"The war against terrorism is the fourth; and it is a world war because it can raise its evil head anywhere in the world. India has been on the frontlines of this war long before many other recognized its vicious depth or poisonous consequences."
Mr. Mukherjee said that the country has achieved much in the field of agriculture, industry and social infrastructure, but it is nothing compared to what India, led by the coming generations,  will create in the decades ahead.
Highlighting the importance of non-violence in nation building, Mr. Mukherjee said that violence is external to human nature.  Quoting Swami Vivekanand, he said that India will rise not with the power of flesh but with the power of spirit.

"Bring all the forces of good together. Do not care what be your colour-green, blue or red, but mix all the colours up and produce that intense glow of white, the colour of love. Ours is to work, the results will take care of themselves."
Our correspondent reports that Mr. Mukherjee was given a 21-gun salute  after which he signed the oath register amid thunderous applause and thumping of desks.  After the short ceremony Mr. Mukherjee and Mrs. Patil were escorted out of the Central Hall amid the roll of drums and blowing of trumpets. The war against terrorism is the fourth; and it is a world war because it can raise its evil head anywhere in the world. India has been on the frontline of this war long before many other recognized its vicious depth or poisonous consequences."

Speaking to newsmen, Mrs. Soni said, the government is already working on the issue of corruption and a strong Lokpal Bill. Reacting to Team Anna's agitation at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, Mrs. Soni said, Team Anna's demonstration seemed to be a futile exercise and the people have understood the gimmick.
The Lok Pal bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha but because it was not complete and had a lot of ammendments it could not go through the Raj Sabha and was sent to the Select Committee.
