निवर्तमान राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने सरकार और जनता दोनों से एक मजबूत, प्रगतिशील, संगठित और भ्रष्टाचार मुक्त भारत बनाने का आह्‌वान किया है। आज शाम राष्ट्र के नाम अपने विदाई संदेश में भ्रष्टाचार को विकास और सुशासन का शत्रु बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि राष्ट्र निर्माण सामूहिक जिम्मेदारी है और प्रत्येक नागरिक को इसमें योगदान करना चाहिए।

किसी भी बहुलवादी समाज में सबसे बडी ताकत उसकी एकता में होती है। हरेक चुनौती पर तभी विजय पा सकेंगे। जब हममे एकता होगी। फुट डालने वाले किसी भी विचार को अपने विचारों में न बसने दें और न ही उससे स्वयं को विचलित होने दें।

श्रीमती पाटील ने कहा कि लोकतंत्र ने देश के हर नागरिक को इसकी स्वतंत्रता और प्रगति में भागीदार बनने का अवसर दिया है।
उन्होंने कहा कि लोकतंत्र की भावना को आत्मसात्‌ किया जाना चाहिए, ताकि यह सबके व्यवहार में दिखाई दे। श्रीमती पाटील ने आगाह किया कि नकारात्मक नजरिए से संशय और निराशा फैलती है, जो देश के हित में नहीं है।
उन्होंने कहा कि भारत में लोकतंत्र की मतबूती तथा सफलता, सामाजिक सौहार्द, उत्तरदायित्वपूर्ण व्यवहार, सकारात्मक नजरिया और मूल्यों की प्रतिबद्धता पर निर्भर है।
श्रीमती पाटील ने कहा कि स्वथ्य लोकतंत्र के साथ ही, स्वस्थ समाज का होना जरूरी है। यह अत्यंत दुख की बात है कि दहेज और बाल विवाह, कन्या भू्रण हत्या तथा कन्या शिशु हत्या आज भी जारी है। श्रीमती पाटील ने कहा कि यह पूरी तरह अस्वीकार्य है और सभी को इसका विरोध करना होगा।

उन्होंने कहा कि जब लोग सामाजिक बुराइयों के खिलाफ खड़े होते हैं, तो वे परिवर्तन का दूत बन जाते हैें।

जब लोग सामाजिक बुराईयों के विरूद्ध खड़े होते हैं। तो वो परिवर्तन के दूत बन जाते हैं। उन्हें सरकार तथा समाज का सहयोग मिलना चाहिए। इससे सामाजिक बुराईयों से लड़ने तथा सभी स्तरों पर अधिक सहानुभूतिपूर्वक समाज के निर्माण को अधिक प्रोत्साहन मिल सकेगा।
राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि नवान्वेषण, परिवर्तन की कुंजी है और समाज में हर स्तर पर सृजन की भावना मौजूद होनी चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि महिलाओं की क्षमताओं का पूरा इस्तेमाल नहीं हुआ है और उनकी शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में बहुत कुछ करने की जरूरत है। उन्होंने प्रबुद्ध समाज के लिए प्रत्येक बालक और बालिका को शारीरिक शिक्षा देने पर बल दिया। श्रीमती पाटील ने स्कूल और कॉलेज के विद्यार्थियों से ज्ञान अर्जित करने तथा प्रगतिशील नजरिया विकसित करने पर ध्यान देने को कहा, ताकि वे एक नए और गतिशील ज्ञान-युग की जरूरतों को पूरा करने के लिए तैयार रहें।

मैं स्कूल तथा कॉलेजों के विद्यार्थियों से आग्रह करूंगी की वे ज्ञान प्राप्त करने पर तथा प्रगतिशील और सहानुभूतिपूर्ण नजरियां विकसित करने पर ध्यान दें ताकि वे नये तथा गतिशील ज्ञानयुग की जरूरतों को पूरा करने के लिए तैयार रहे।

श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी को कल देश के नये राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ दिलाई जायेगी। शपथ-ग्रहण समारोह संसद भवन के केन्द्रीय कक्ष में होगा। श्री मुखर्जी के शपथ लेने के बाद २१ तोपों की सलामी दी जाएगी। इसके बाद राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी भाषण देंगे।
केन्द्रीय कक्ष में समारोह सम्पन्न होने के बाद वे राष्ट्रपति भवन रवाना होंगे, जहां सेना के तीनो अंगों की टुकड़ी उन्हें गॉर्ड ऑफ ऑनर पेश करेगी और निवर्तमान राष्ट्रपति श्रीमती पाटील को सम्मानपूर्वक विदाई दी जाएगी।
आकाशवाणी से शपथ ग्रहण समारोह का सीधा प्रसारण सुबह दस बजकर ५० मिनट से किया जाएगा।
आकाशवाणी के साथ एक साक्षात्कार में श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा कि देश लगातार और निर्बाध गति से संसदीय प्रणाली, आर्थिक विकास और प्रगति के पथ पर आगे बढ़ रहा है, यह हमारी लोकतांत्रिक प्रणाली और लोकतांत्रिक संस्कृति की मजबूती का सबूत है।

राजधानी के नॉर्थ ब्लॉक और साउथ ब्लॉक क्षेत्रों में स्थित सरकारी कार्यालय कल दोपहर तक बंद रहेंगे। यह निर्णय कल दिन के साढ़े ग्यारह बजे नवर्निवाचित राष्ट्रपति प्रणव मुखर्जी का संसद के केंद्रीय कक्ष में आयोजित  शपथग्रहण समारोह को ध्यान में रखकर लिया गया है। बंद रहने वाले कार्यालयों में राष्ट्रपति भवन, संसद भवन, रेल भवन, कृषि भवन, उद्योग भवन और संसद के आसपास के अन्य कार्यालय शामिल हैं।
वहीं दूसरी ओर सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को मद्देनजर केन्द्रीय सचिवालय, उद्योग भवन और खान मार्किट मेट्रो स्टेशन भी सुबह नौ बजे से ग्यारह बजे तक बंद रहेगा। हालांकि यात्री केन्द्र्रीय सचिवालय पर मेट्रो बदल सकते हैं।

प्रधानमंत्री ने आज जातीय हिंसा से प्रभावित असम की स्थिति का जायजा लिया। प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय के प्रवक्ता ने नई दिल्ली में कहा कि डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने असम के मुख्यमंत्री तरूण गोगोई से कहा है कि स्थिति पर काबू पाने के सभी संभव प्रयास करें और प्रभावित लोगों के राहत और पुनर्वास के लिए कारगर कदम उठायें। प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि मुख्यमंत्री ने उन इलाकों में सरकार द्वारा उठाये गये कदमों की जानकारी प्रधानमंत्री को दी।
कोकराझार में बोडोलैंड टेरिटोरियल जिले के पुलिस महानिरीक्षक ने बताया कि रामपुर और चापरकाटा इलाकों में हिंसा में लगे चार और लोग आज पुलिस गोलीबारी में मारे गये। इसके साथ ही हिंसा में मरने वालों की संख्या ३२ हो गयी है। सत्तर हजार से अधिक लोगों ने राहत शिविरों में शरण ले रखी है।
मुख्यमंत्री तरूण गोगोई ने बताया है कि राज्य सरकार ने स्थिति से प्रभावी ढंग से निपटने के लिए शरारती तत्वों को देखते ही गोली मारने के आदेश दिये हैं। धुबरी और बिलासीपाड़ा में कल से कर्फ्‌यू लगा दिया गया है।

हमने २० कंपनियां भेज दी है और इसके अलावा सेना की कुछ यूनिट भी लगाई गई हैं। संयुक्त सचिव भी वहां जा रहे हैं। मैंने स्वयं बड़े नेताओं और मुस्लिम दोनों नेताओं से बात की है। हम उनके साथ लगातार संपर्क में है। मैंने उन्हें बता दिया है और कुछ भी आवश्यकता होगी दी जाएगी।

यूपीए सरकार ने भ्रष्टाचार की समस्या से निपटने के लिए कई कदम उठाए हैं। भ्रष्टाचार उन्मूलन पर बनाई गई, मंत्री-समूह की दो रिपोर्टों के बाद सरकार ने निर्देश दिया है कि सक्षम अधिकारी को मुकदमा चलाने की अनुमति देने के अनुरोध पर तीन महीने के भीतर फैसला करना होगा। यह भी फैसला किया गया है कि प्रभारी मंत्री, संयुक्त सचिव स्तर से ऊपर के केंद्रीय सरकार के अधिकारियों के खिलाफ जांच शुरू करने के मामले में सक्षम अधिकारी होंगे।

सरकार ने लगभग १५ अरब ८४ करोड़ रूपये के १४ प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश प्रस्तावों को मंजूरी दी है। वित्त मंत्रालय की विज्ञप्ति में बताया गया है कि मंजूरी किए गए प्रस्तावों में छह अरब ७४ करोड़ रूपये महाराष्ट्र की अभिजीत पावर कंपनी के लिए है। दूरसंचार क्षेत्र में एक अरब ८३ करोड़ रूपये के प्रत्यक्ष विदेशी निवेश का प्रस्ताव नेट मैजिक सॉल्यूशन्स कंपनी के लिए है।

सरकार, पाकिस्तान और बंगलादेश से लगी सीमा पर चौकसी बढ़ाने के लिए पांच सौ से अधिक सीमा चौकियां बनाएगी। इसके बाद दो चौकियों के बीच की दूरी घटकर साढ़े तीन किलोमीटर रह जाएगी और इससे सीमा पर कारगर ढंग से चौकसी रखने में मदद मिलेगी। केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम ने आज नई दिल्ली में अपने मंत्रालय से संबद्ध सलाहकार समिति को संबोधित करते हुए यह जानकारी दी।

गुवाहाटी मामले के मुख्य अभियुक्त अमर ज्योति कालिता को आज उत्तर प्रदेश में वाराणसी की एक स्थानीय अदालत ने पांच दिन के ट्रांजिट रिमांड पर असम पुलिस को सौंप दिया। कालिता को कल वाराणसी में विश्वविद्यालय के मुख्य द्वार के पास से गिरफ्‌तार किया गया था। कालिता को अब पूछताछ के लिए गुवाहाटी ले जाया जा रहा है। उसे पकड़वाने वाले को एक लाख रूपये के पुरस्कार की घोषणा की गयी थी।
इस गिरफतारी के साथ १७ में से १४ अभियुक्त गिरफ्‌तार हो चुके हैं।

लंदन ओलंपिक विशेष श्रृंखला में आज कुश्ती में भारतीय पहलवानों की संभावनाओं पर एक नजरः-

साल २००८ के बीजिंग ओलंपिक में भारतीय कुश्ती ने ५६ साल बाद एक उपलब्धि हासिल की जब पहलवान सुशील कुमार ने देश को कॉस्य पदक दिलाया। इससे पहले १९५२ के ओलंपिक खेलों में के.डी. जाधव ने कुश्ती में भारत को पदक दिलाया था। इस बार भी २०१० के विश्व चैम्पियन सुशील कुमार लंदन ओलंपिक में भारतीय चुनौती की अगुवाई कर रहे हैं। उनके साथ एशियन चैम्पियन योगेश्वर दत्त भी अपनी किस्मत आजमाएंगे। पुरुष वर्ग में भारत की तरफ से अमित कुमार और नरसिंह यादव भी दो ऐसे पहलवान है जो ओलंपिक में अपनी दावेदारी रखेंगे। चार पुरुष पहलवानों के अलावा गीता फोगाट महिला वर्ग में भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व करेंगी। धर्मेन्द्र मणि राजेश, आकाशवाणी समाचार

हम्बनटोटा में दूसरे एकदिवसीय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट मैच में आज श्रीलंका ने भारत को नौ विकेट से हराकर पांच मैचों की श्रृंखला में एक-एक की बराबरी कर ली है। टॉस जीतकर पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए भारत की  पूरी टीम ३३ ओवर और तीन गेंद में सिर्फ १३८ रन पर ही सिमट गई। जीत के लिए १३९ रन का लक्ष्य श्रीलंका ने २०वे ओवर में सिर्फ एक विकेट के नुकसान पर हासिल कर लिया। दोनों देशों के बीच तीसरा मैच शनिवार को कोलम्बो में खेला जाएगा।

हरियाणा में मानेसर के मारूति सुजुकी कारखाने में पिछले सप्ताह भड़की हिंसा के बाद आसपास के इलाके में निषेधाज्ञा लागू कर दी गयी है। उस इलाके में पिस्तौल, तलवार, छुरी, साइकिल की चैन और लाठी जैसे हथियार लाने ले जाने पर भी प्रतिबंध लगा दिया गया है।
हरियाणा सरकार ने छह और श्रमिकों को कथित रूप से आगजनी और लूटमार में शामिल होने के आरोप में गिरफ्‌तार कर लिया है।

Out going President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil today called on both the Government and the people to jointly build a strong, progressive, cohesive and corruption free India.  In her farewell address to the nation this evening Mrs. Patil termed corruption as the enemy of development, and of good governance. She also said the nation building is a collective responsibility and every citizen has a valuable contribution to make.

That nation building is a collective endeavour and each will have role to play and contribute according to his or her might.  Each will have to work hard maintain harmony  and be discipline for the growth of the nation and the well being of the society.

Mrs. Patil said, Democracy has given every citizen of the country a participatory stake in in its freedom and progress.  She said, the essence of democracy should also be internalized so that it is reflected in our patterns of behaviour.  She said, stability and success of democracy in India rests on social harmony, responsible behaviour, positive attitude and commitment to values.

Mrs. Patil said, alongwith healthy democracy, there should also be a healthy society.  Mrs. Patil said, it is matter of deep distress that social evils of dowry and child marriage, practice of female foeticide, female infanticide continue to exist. Mrs. Patil said, these are unacceptable and must be opposed by all.

Mrs. Patil also said, the potential of women has not been fully realized and still a long way from the goal of gender education.

The President elect Mr. Pranab Mukherjee will be sworn-in as the 13th President of the country tomorrow.  The swearing-in ceremony will take place in the central hall of Parliament .The Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Mohammad Hamid Ansari, the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the Chief Justice of India, Justice S H Kapadia, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Mrs Meira Kumar, Members of Council of Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Members of Parliament and Principal Civil and Military Officers of the Government of India will assemble in the Central Hall for the ceremony.

The swearing in ceremony of the oath taking to be held  in Central Hall of Parliament.  It will be broadcast live by All India Radio from 10.50 am.

According to an official release, the President Mrs Pratiba Devisingh Patil and the President-elect Mr Pranab Mukherjee will arrive at the Central Hall in a ceremonial procession. After the President-elect takes the oath, a 21-Gun Salute will be given. He will then deliver an address. Mr Pranab Mukherjee will be given by an inter-services guard of honour in the forecourt  of Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Ahead of taking over in an interview to All India Radio, Mr. Mukherjee said that Parliamentary system, economic development and progress of the country are moving upwards uninterrupted. He said, this speaks of the strength of the democratic system and democratic culture.

The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on telecom, headed by Home Minister P Chidambaram that met today has deferred a decision on one-time spectrum fee on existing telecom operators till the outcome of Presidential Reference. Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal told reporters in New Delhi that all the issues were placed before the EGoM. He said, the EGoM has decided to wait for the outcome of Presidential Reference and then decide on these issues. The government had in April, filed a Presidential Reference in the Supreme Court to understand the impact of apex court's judgement that cancelled 122 telecom licences.

The UPA Government has taken several measures to tackle the menace of corruption.  Following the two reports submitted by the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Anti corruption set up in January last year, the Government has directed that requests for sanction of prosecution are to be decided upon by the competent authority within a period of three months. It was also decided that the Minister-in-charge will be the competent authority for initiating enquiry or investigation against all officers of the central government above the rank of Joint Secretary.

The government will construct 509 more Border Out Posts, BOPs, to maintain vigil along the borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. The BOPs will reduce the inter-border out post distance to 3.5 Kilometers and help in effective monitoring of the borders. This was informed by Home minister P Chidambaram while addressing the members of consultative committee of his ministry in New Delhi today. The Home Minister also informed the members that the Centre is exploring use of modern technology in border management by proper fencing, flood lights and other latest technologies available in this field.

Union Minister of State for Science and technology, Dr. Ashwani Kumar said that enough resources are available in the country  in order to tap the scientists in the field of advancements and that the total Research & Development  expenditure in the country is likely to increase to 2 percent from existing 1 percent  of the GDP. Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh today he said that a sum of on one lakh crore rupees is likely to be allocated for Science , technology and innovation in the 12th five year plan.

The Minister has expressed concern over the situation in drought affected areas of Andhra Pradesh, Marathwara and Karnataka. He said that rain is 22 percent deficit in the country so far. He added that there is no shortage of food grains in the country.

The government has approved 14 proposals of Foreign Direct Investment - FDI  amounting to around 1584 crore rupees. According to a release issued by the  Ministry of Finance, the approval to this effect was given on the recommendations of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board.

The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh today took stock of the situation in Assam where ethnic clashes have taken place. A spokesperson in the Prime Minister's Office  said in New Delhi that he has asked Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi  to do everything possible to control the situation and  take effective steps for relief and rehabilitation of the affected. The spokesman said that the chief minister informed the Prime Minister about the steps taken by the government in the localities where clashes took place.  State Home Secretary told our correspondent that five persons were killed today in police firing.  He said, that the total number of killed in the violence has risen to 32 with reports of deaths of some more persons coming late.

Over 70,000 people are housed in the relief camps.  The state government has issued shoot at sight orders to effectively deal with the situation. A Curfew has been clamped in Dhubri and Bilasipara sub divisions of Bilasipara district since yesterday.

Home Secretary RK Singh has assured the Assam government that the Centre will help maintain law and order in the State. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today he said he is in constant touch with forces and lawmakers in the state. The Home Secretary said that he had also spoken to the leaders of Bodos and Minorities in the state.

Meanwhile, BJP today decided to send a fact-finding team in Assam to ascertain the reasons that led to the clashes in the state.

The main accused in the Guwahati molestation case Amar Jyoti Kalita, was sent to a five-day transit remand to Assam police by a Local court today at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Kalita was arrested yesterday in Varanasi from Lanka police area near BHU main gate.  A Police spokesperson has told our Allahabad correspondent that he has accepted his involvement into the case during interrogation.

BJP has sought an immediate intervention by the Central government in providing better amenities to the pilgrims of  Amarnath Yatra. A BJP delegation today met Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram in New Delhi in connection with the rising deaths of pilgrims during the Yatra. Talking to reporters after the meeting, senior party leader and the Leader of  Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj alleged that Jammu and Kashmir government and Amarnath Shrine Board  are not providing better facilities to the pilgrims. She also demanded to extend the period of Amarnath Yatra.

A Delhi court today asked the Delhi Police to file status report on a complaint against Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely for alleged corruption in grant of fitness certificate to commercial vehicles.

Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal directed the Anti-Corruption branch of Delhi Police to file its status report within six weeks detailing the steps it has taken on the complaint filed by RTI activist Vivek Garg.

Sri Lanka humbled India today by defeating the visitors by nine wickets in the second ODI in Hambantota. Having dismissed India for 138 in the 34th over, Sri Lanka openers raced to chase the target of 139 and the islanders achieved it in just 19.5 overs for the loss of one wicket.  Sri Lanka has thus levelled the 5 ODI series 1-1.

India’s prospects in Wrestling in London Olympics

"The 2008 Beijing Olympics saw Wrestler Sushil Kumar winning a bronze medal, a moment of glory in Indian wrestling which came 56 years after K. D. Jadhav had done India proud in 1952 Olympics. Sushil Kumar, the 2010 World Champion leads the Indian challenge this time too, along with the Asian Champion Yogeshwar Dutt. Now participating in his third Olympics, Yogeshwar had narrowly missed a medal last time in Beijing when he lost in Quarterfinals. Amit Kumar and Narsingh Yadav are the other two grapplers from the Men’s section who hold promise for India. Amit, the 18 year old lad from Sonepat had struck gold in Asian qualifying event to make it to the Olympics while Narsingh Yadav is a gold medallist from 2010 Commonwealth games. Apart from the four male grapplers , Geeta Phogat would represent the country in the women’s section. Geeta, the first Indian woman wrestler to have qualified for Olympics had won a gold in Asian qualifying event in the run up to the Olympics." Varun Bhardwaj for AIR News.

Prohibitory orders were today clamped around the Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant which was rocked by violent labour unrest last week. The orders, issued, also prohibited carrying of weapons like fire arms, swords, knives, cycle chains and lathis. Taking out any type of procession without prior permission of the administration has also been banned.

Meanwhile, Haryana government has asked Maruti Suzuki to pay 235 crore rupees to Haryana State Industries and Infrastructure Development Corporation, HSIIDC as enhanced compensation to farmers for land acquisition under a Supreme Court order.
