राष्ट्रपति पद के चुनाव में मतों की गिनती आज की जायेगी। यूपीए के उम्मीदवार श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी का मुकाबला कुछ विपक्षी दलों के उम्मीदवार श्री पी.ए. संगमा से है। मतगणना दिन में ११ बजे शुरु होगी। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच सभी राज्यों से मतपेटियां नई दिल्ली लाई गई हैं। सबकी निगाहें संसद भवन पर रहेंगी जहां १९ जुलाई को हुए राष्ट्रपति चुनाव का परिणाम घोषित होगा। यूपीए उम्मीदवार श्री प्रणव मुखर्जी को सहयोगियों-पार्टियों, बहार से समर्थन दे रही एसपी, बीएसपी, आरजेडी और जेडीएस के साथ-साथ एनडीए के सहयोगियों जनता दल यूनाइटेड और शिवसेना ने समर्थन किया। सीपीआईएम और वाईएसआर कांग्रेस और फारवर्ड ब्लाक ने भी श्री मुखर्जी के पक्ष में समर्थन किया। लोकसभा के पूर्व अध्यक्ष पी ए संगमा बीजेडी और ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डीएमके प्रारम्भिक समर्थन के साथ राष्ट्रपति चुनाव मैदान में कूदे। बीजेपी और अकाली दल ने भी उन्हें समर्थन देने का फैसला किया। कुलश्रेष्ठ कमल आकाशवाणी समाचार दिल्ली।

उधर, उपराष्ट्रपति पद के लिए चुनाव में यूपीए के उम्मीदवार मोहम्मद हामिद अंसारी और एनडीए के उम्मीदवार जसवंत सिंह के बीच मुकाबला होगा। श्री अंसारी और श्री सिंह के नामांकन पत्र जांच के बाद सही पाए गए। लेकिन २९ उम्मीदवारों के नामांकन पत्र खारिज कर दिए गए। उपराष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए सात अगस्त को मतदान होगा। इसमें कुल ७९० सांसद वोट डाल सकेंगे।----
तृणमूल कांग्रेस प्रमुख और पश्चिम बंगाल की मुख्यमंत्री ममता बैनर्जी ने स्पष्ट रूप से कहा है कि उनकी पार्टी यूपीए में बनी रहेगी। कोलकाता में जनसभा को संबोधित करते हुए उन्होंने केंद्र से अनुरोध किया कि राज्य सरकार को कर्ज के भुगतान में तीन साल की छूट दी जाए। उन्होंने कहा कि राज्य में पंचायत चुनाव दुर्गापूजा के बाद कराए जाएंगे। ममता बनर्जी ने कहा कि उनकी पार्टी अकेले पंचायत चुनाव लड़ेगी । उन्होंने इस महीने की २९ तारीख को दार्जिलिंग में गोरखा लैंड क्षेत्रीय प्रशासन परिषद के चुनाव में अपनी पार्टी के सभी १७ उम्मीदवार हटाने का भी ऐलान किया। हमारे कोलकाता संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि १९९३ में पूर्ववर्ती वाम मोर्चा के शासन के दौरान पुलिस गोलीबारी में मारे गए युवा कांग्रेस के १३ कार्यकर्ताओं की स्मृति में जनसभा आयोजित की गई। ममता बनर्जी उस समय राज्य में युवा कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष थी। कांगे्रस की राज्य इकाई ने हत्या की जांच के लिए तृणमूल कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व वाली सरकार द्वारा बनाए गए जांच आयोग के कार्य में तेजी लाने की मांग करते हुए प्रदेश पार्टी अध्यक्ष प्रदीप भट्टाचार्य के नेतृत्व में अलग आयोजन किया।

सरकार ने कहा है कि अच्छी बारिश न होने और कृषि पर उसके विपरीत असर की स्थिति से निपटने के लिए वैकल्पिक योजना बना ली गई है। ंइसमें किसानों को दलहन और अल्पकालिक फसलों की खेती के लिए अच्छे किस्म के बीज उपलब्ध कराने जैसे प्रबंध शामिल हैं। हालांकि कृषि सचिव आशीष बहुगुणा का यह भी कहना था कि देश के अधिकतर भागों में फसलों की स्थिति अच्छी है। वे कल नई दिल्ली में मॉनसून के देर से आने से प्रभावित राज्यों में फसलों की स्थिति की समीक्षा के बाद संवाददाताओं से बातचीत कर रहे थे। ----
सुपरसोनिक क्रूज मिसाइल ब्रह्मोस शीघ्र ही रूस की रक्षा सेवाओं में शामिल किया जाएगा। इसे रूसी रक्षा सेवाएं तैनात करेंगी जिसके लिये तौर-तरीकों को अंतिम रूप दिया जा रहा है। इससे पहले ब्रह्मोस मिसाइल भारतीय सेना और नौसेना में शामिल की जा चुकी है। ब्रह्मोस एयरो स्पेस के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी और प्रबंध निदेशक ए. शिवथनु पिल्लई ने कोयंबतूर में संवाददाताओं को बताया कि रूस के उप-प्रधानमंत्री के नेतृत्व में उच्च स्तरीय शिष्टमंडल ने हाल ही में कंपनी का दौरा किया और भारतीय सेना तथा नौसेना में ब्रह्मोस मिसाइल को शामिल करने की प्रक्रिया की सराहना की। विचार-विमर्श के बाद ब्रह्मोस को रूस की सेनाओं में शामिल करने का फैसला किया गया है। ----
उत्तर प्रदेश में इटावा जिले में कल रात हुई सड़क दुर्घटना में छह महिलाओं और पांच लड़कियों समेत १३ लोग मारे गए और चार गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए। पुलिस प्रवक्ता ंने हमारे इलाहाबाद संवाददाता को बताया कि ट्रक चालक के नियंत्रण खो देने पर सड़क किनारे बैठे १७ लोग कुचले गए। यह दुर्घटना इटावा-फर्रूखाबाद मार्ग पर बड़ालोकपुर गांव के निकट हुई। पुलिस ने चालक को गिरफ्तार कर लिया है। ----
मारुति सुजूकी ने हिंसा की घटना की जांच पूरी होने तक हरियाणा में मानेसर कारखाने में तालाबंदी की घोषणा की है। मारुति सुजूकी के अध्यक्ष आर सी भार्गव ने कहा कि कारखाने में उत्पादन के बजाय सहयोगियों की सुरक्षा ज्यादा महत्वपूर्ण है। उन्होंने कहा कि मारुति अपने कर्मचारियों के जीवन और सुरक्षा का जोखिम नहीं ले सकती। उत्पादन शुरू नहीं कर सकते, जिंदगी को खतरा है। कारखाने में काम ठप्प है, लेकिन कारखाना मानेसर से कहीं और नहीं ले जाएंगे। यह पता लगाएंगे कि क्या गलत हुआ और इसके कारण क्या हैं। हम जरूरी कदम उठाएंगे। मानेसर में फिर से उत्पादन शुरू करेंगे।
श्री भार्गंव ने कहा कि सरकार को यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए ठोस उपाय करने चाहिए कि कारखाने में फिर से हिंसा न हो। श्री भार्गव ने कहा कि राज्य सरकार ने जांच पूरी करने के लिए कोई समय सीमा निर्धारित नहीं की है। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि यह हरियाणा सरकार के हित में है कि जांच तेजी से पूरी हो। श्री भार्गव ने कहा कि मारुति का कारखाना मानेसर से कहीं और नहीं ले जाया जाएगा और वैकल्पिक स्तर पर उत्पादन शुरू करने की कोई योजना नहीं है।

मध्य प्रदेश में इंदौर में सीबीआई की विशेष अदालत ने आरटीआई कार्यकर्ता सहला मसूद हत्या मामले में कल सभी पांच अभियुक्तों पर आरोप तय कर दिए। हमारे संवाददाता की रिपोर्ट :-इंदौर के अतिरिक्त सेशन कोर्ट के जज ने शहला मसूद के पिता की उस दलिल को खारिज कर दिया है जिसमें उन्होंने मामले की सुनवाई को भोपाल की आदालत में स्थानांतरित करने की मांग की थी। अब इस मामले की सुनवाई इंदौर में ही एक अगस्त से शुरू की जाएगी। चूंकी यह हत्याकांड राजधानी भोपाल में घटित हुआ था। इसी आधार पर ज+ाहिदा परवेज+ सहित पांचों आरोपियों के वकील ने इस मामले की सुनवाई भोपाल की अदालत में करने की मांग की थी। सीबीआई द्वारा २५ मई को दायर किए गए आरोप पत्र में इन पांचों को हत्या का दोषी ठहराया गया है। सुनील तिवारी आकाशवाणी समाचार, इंदौर।

पाकिस्तान के उत्तर-पश्चिमी इलाके में आत्मघाती बम हमले में कई बच्चों समेत करीब नौ लोग मारे गए हैं। आत्मघाती हमलावर विस्फोटक से लदा वाहन लेकर कुर्रम में पूर्व तालिबान कमांडर के परिसर के प्रवेश द्वार तक पहुंचा। इस्लामाबाद से अधिकारियों के हवाले से मिली खबर में कहा गया है कि विस्फोट के समय दर्जनों आतंकवादी परिसर में मौजूद थे। आतंकवादी, स्थानीय कमांडर मोलाना नबी के वफादार थे। मौलाना नबी हाल ही में पाकिस्तानी तालिबान से अलग हो गए थे और उन्हें सरकार समर्थक माना जाता था। ----
दक्षिण-पूर्व तुर्की में अग्निशमन कर्मचारियों ने तेल पाइप लाइन में लगी आग बुझा दी है। इस पाइप लाइन से इराक का एक चौथाई तेल निर्यात किया जाता है। आग बुझने के बावजूद अभी ये स्पष्ट नहीं है कि तेल की आपूर्ति कब शुरू होगी। सीरिया की सीमा के निकट मरदिन प्रांत में मिदियात कस्बे के निकट किरकुक-कीहान पाइप लाइन में शुक्रवार को आग लग गई थी। तुर्की के अधिकारियों ने पाइप लाइन में विस्फोट के लिए कुर्द अलगाववादियों को जिम्मेदार ठहराया है। ----

The counting of votes in the presidential poll will take place today. Mr. Pranab Mukherjee is the UPA candidate in the contest against Mr P.A. Sangma, supported by some opposition parties. Our correspondent reports that the ballot boxes from all the states have been brought to New Delhi under tight security for the counting, which will begin at 11 AM.
Parliament House will be the centre of attraction where the results of Presidential election will be announced. Besides the UPA and its supporting parties SP, BSP, RJD, JD(S) , NDA partners JDU and Shiv Sena have also extended their support for Mr Pranab Mukherjee. CPIM, YSR Congress and Forward Bloc have also lent their support for the UPA nominee. Former Lok Sabha speaker P A Sangma jumped in to the fray with initial support of the BJD and AIADMK . In the Vice Presidential polls, the main contest will be between UPA nominee Mohammad Hamid Ansari and his NDA counterpart Mr Jaswant Singh. The nomination papers of Mr Ansari and Mr Singh were accepted during scrutiny yesterday while papers of 29 others were rejected on various grounds for failing to meet the requirements.
790 MPs are eligible to cast their vote on the 7th of August to elect the Vice President of the country.

The Trinamool Congress Supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamta Banerjee has categorically said that her party will remain in the UPA. Addressing a public rally in Kolkata, she urged the centre for a moratorium for three years on the debt burden of the state. Ms. Banerjee also announced advancing of Panchayat Elections in the state after the Durga Puja festival and withdrawal of all 17 party candidates from the Gorkha land territorial administration election in Darjeeling scheduled to be held on the 29th of this month. She said, the TMC will go it alone in the Panchayat elections.
Our Kolkata correspondent reports that the rally was organised in memory of the 13 youth Congress activists who were killed in police firing during the previous left front rule in 1993. She was the Youth Congress President in the state at that time. The state Congress also observed the day separately with the state party president Pradeep Bhattacharjee demanding speedy work of the inquiry commission set up by the Trinamool Congress led government to probe the killings.

Supersonic cruise missile Brahmos, successfully inducted into the Indian Army and Navy, will soon be deployed by Russian defence services, for which modalities are being worked out. CEO and Managing Director of Brahmos Aerospace, A. Shivathanu Pillai told reporters in Coimbatore that a high level delegation, led by the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, recently visited the company and appreciated the induction process of Brahmos missiles into the Indian Army and Navy. He said, the delegation would soon work out modalities to induct them into their services, particularly the Naval fleet.

Maruti Suzuki India has declared a lockout at it's violence-hit Manesar plant in Haryana till the probe into the violence is completed. Its Chairman R.C. Bhargava said that to him the safety of his colleagues is more important than production at the unit. He said that Maruti cannot risk the life and safety of its employees. He said production will not resume till the completion of the investigation into the incident and corrective steps are taken by the government to ensure that no recurrence of violence in the plant will be allowed. Mr Bhargava said that the state government has not set a time frame to complete the investigation. He said, it is in the interest of the Haryana government that the investigation is concluded fast. Mr Bhargava said the Maruti Unit is not moving out of Manesar and there is no plan to shift the production facility to an alternative site.

In Uttar Pradesh, at least 13 persons including 6 women and five girls were crushed to death and 4 seriously injured last night in a road accident in Etawah district. A police spokesperson told our Allahabad correspondent that the accident happened when a driver of a truck chassis lost control over his vehicle and crushed 17 persons sitting on the road side on the Etawah Farrukhabad road near Baralokpur village in the district.
The Police have arrested the driver of the vehicle. Agitated over the accident, local people blocked road traffic which was removed after the intervention of senior district officers.

In Uttar Pradesh, the monsoon is very active and heavy rain lashed several parts of the state during the last 24 hours. Heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life in many districts in the eastern region. Our Allahabad correspondent reports that the maximum of 15 Centimetres of rainfall was received in Sultanpur district.
Following incessant rains in eastern district districts, water level of many rivers have increased. Due to heavy rainfall road traffic, telecommunication and power supply system are badly affected in several districts. State has received 30 less rains in the comparison of normal rainfall. Weather experts say that deficiency of rain will be fulfilled in coming days. Current spell of shower is very beneficial for the sowing of corps.Sunil Shukla, AIR News Allahabad.
In Maharashtra, even though nearly one and half months period of the Monsoon is over, rain fall in 256 tehsils of the state is uneven and scanty. Our correspondent says, the average rainfall of about 50 percent was lowest in 202 tehsils.
In Maharashtra, barring the Konkan division, the other divisions like Marathwada, Khandesh Western Maharashtra and Vidarbha are still reeling under the shadow of drought. Nearly 85 per cent area of the agricultural land depends on the monsoon. In this Kharif season, sowing has been done over 85 per cent of the total one crore and 32 lakh hectare area. The storage of water except the Konkan division in the State has reduced to the alarming extent. In more than two thousand reservoirs, only 15 per cent water is available. A CBI special court in Indore yesterday framed charges against all five accused in the RTI activist Shehla Masood murder case. More from our Indore correspondent: Along with framing the charges, the Indore additional sessions court judge rejected the plea of Shehla's father who was seeking transfer of her murder trial to Bhopal. The trial will start from August 1. All the five accused, had sought trial at Bhopal, on the ground that offence had taken place there. The charge sheet filed by CBI on May 25 blamed Zahida, Saba and Saqib for the murder of Shehla. Shehla was shot dead in front of her house at Koh-e-Fiza area on August 16, 2011 by alleged sharp shooters. Sunil Tiwari, AIR News, Indore.

The Pakistan Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf says, all stakeholders in his country believe that the solutions to problems facing the people lie in the strengthening of democracy and not in depriving the people of their right to choice. He said this in an interview with the state-run APP news agency. His remarks came days ahead of the hearing of two crucial cases by the Supreme Court that could decide Ashraf's fate. In Syria, the opposition activists have reported clashes between Syrian troops and opposition fighters in the outer neighborhoods of Damascus and Aleppo. Syrian Television said the Midan area along with several other pockets have been cleared of the rebels. While Syrian troops launched their counter offensive to push back the rebels, the Free Syrian Army has seized two Syrian border posts along the Iraqi border and one along the Israeli border. Fire fighters in southeast Turkey have put out a fire in a pipeline carrying one fourth of Iraq's oil exports. But it is still not clear when oil will resume flowing. The fire broke out on Friday night on the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline near the town of Midyat in Mardin province, near the Syrian border. Turkish authorities have held the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) responsible for the pipeline blast.

राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के मतों की गिनती, संसद भवन में चल रही है। ताजा खबरों के अनुसार सांसदों के वोट गिने जा चुके हैं।राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए यूपीए के उम्मीदवार प्रणव मुखर्जी के अधिकृत प्रतिनिधि और संसदीय कार्यमंत्री पवन कुमार बंसल ने पत्रकारों को बताया कि ७४८ सांसदों में से ७३३ के मत वैध पाये गये हैं। इस मतगणना के बाद राज्यसभा के महासचिव और चुनाव अधिकारी वी के अग्निहोत्री ने बताया कि श्री मुखर्जी को ५२७ और उनके प्रतिद्वन्द्वी तथा पूर्व लोकसभा अध्यक्ष पी० ए० संगमा को २०६ मत मिले हैं। १५ वोट अवैध घोषित किये गये।
श्री पी ए संगमा को २०६ मत मिले है। इनकी वैल्यू एक लाख ४५ हजार ८४८ है। श्री प्रणव मुखर्जी को पांच सौ २७ मत मिले हैं। इनकी वैल्यू तीन लाख ७३ हजार एक सौ साठ है

असम के कोकराझार जिले में कानून और व्यवस्था बनाये रखने के लिए सेना के दस्ते बुलाये गये हैं। यह जानकारी बोडो क्षेत्रीय स्वायत्त जिला - बी टी ए डी - के पुलिस महानिरीक्षक एस० एन० सिंह ने आकाशवाणी को दी। उन्होंने बताया कि अर्द्ध्रसैनिक बलों और पुलिस के ११ और दस्ते तैनात कर दिये गये हैं। असम सरकार ने भी पुलिस के दस और वरिष्ठ अधिकारी इस इलाके में भेजे हैं। असम के मुख्यमंत्री तरूण गोगोई ने सभी सम्बद्ध विभागों को निर्देश दिया है कि वे कानून और व्यवस्था की स्थिति बनाये रखने के सभी उपाय करें। अज्ञात लोगों ने पिछले ४८ घंटों में नौ लोगों की हत्या कर दी है और आठ को घायल कर दिया है। गोरांग नदी के रेलवे पुल के पास आज दो और शव मिलने से मरने वालों की संख्या ११ हो गई है। कोकराझार के डिप्टी कमीशनर ने आज कहा कि स्थिति तनावपूर्ण लेकिन नियंत्रण में है। उन्होंने बताया कि जिले में धारा - १४४ लगा दी गई है।

मुंबई पुलिस की अपराध शाखा का कहना है कि लश्करे तैयबा के आतंकवादी अबू जुंदाल की आवाज के नमूने जल्द लिए जाएंगे। अपराध शाखा के एक अधिकारी के अनुसार २००८ के मुंबई हमलों के दौरान खुफिया एजेंसियों द्वारा रिकॉर्ड की गई, टेलीफोन पर जुदांल की बातचीत की आवाज से इन नमूनों से मिलान किया जाएगा। जुदांल पर मुंबई हमलो ंका एक प्रमुख साजिशकर्ता होने का आरोप है। उसे कल दिल्ली से मुंबई लाया गया और एक स्थानीय अदालत मे ंपेश किया गया। अदालत ने उसे ३१ जुलाई तक पुलिस हिरासत में भेज दिया।----
तमिलनाडु कें पेरंबलूर जिले में एक निजी स्कूल के नौवीं कक्षा के एक छात्र की पिटाई के लिए गिरफ्तार किये गये तीन शिक्षकों को १५ दिन की न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया है। इन्हें निलंबित किया जा चुका है। छात्र के अभिभावकों ने शिकायत की है कि इन शिक्षकों ने उसे स्वमूत्र पीने के लिए मजबूर भी किया। मुख्य शिक्षा अधिकारी श्रीमती मल्लिका ने घटना की जांच के बाद बताया कि शिक्षकों का कहना है कि उन्होंने इस बच्चे को तम्बाकू खाने के लिए सिर्फ डांटा था। ----

उत्तर प्रदेश में मनरेगा के तहत एक करोड़ ४५ लाख ८४ हजार गरीबों को रोजगार कार्ड दिए गए हैं। ग्रामीण इलाकों में लगभग ११ लाख ४९ हजार लोगों को २५८ से ज्यादा दिनों का रोजगार मुहैया कराने पर लगभग ४५६ लाख रूपये खर्च किए गए हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने सरकारी सूत्रों के हवाले से बताया है कि मनरेगा के तहत, अनुसूचित जाति और अनुसूचित जनजाति के परिवारों को लगभग १२६ दिनों का रोजगार उपलब्ध कराया गया है। राज्य की महिलाओं को ५३ लाख से ज्यादा दिनों का रोजगार मिला।राज्य में रोजगार-कार्ड के वितरण में अनियमितता की शिकायतों को देखते हुए सरकार इस मामले की जांच करवाने की तैयारी कर रही है।

केन्द्र सरकार ने महाराष्ट्र में नागपुर में राष्ट्रीय बौद्धिक संपदा प्रबंधन संस्थान में, भारतीय राष्ट्रीय बौद्धिक संपदा फाउंडेशन स्थापित करने का फैसला किया है। केन्द्रीय वाणिज्य मंत्री आनन्द शर्मा ने संस्थान के नये भवन के उद्घाटन अवसर पर यह घोषणा की। उन्होंने कहा कि इससे देश में बौद्धिक संपदा अधिकारों को अधिक प्रभावी बनाने में मदद मिलेगी। श्री शर्मा ने कहा कि इससे महाराष्ट्र, देश में बौद्धिक संपदा पर अनुसंधान का केन्द्र बन सकेगा। उन्होंने बताया कि राष्ट्रीय बौद्धिक संपदा प्रबंधन संस्थान को राजीव गांधी राष्ट्रीय बौद्धिक संपदा प्रबंधन संस्थान का नाम दिया गया है। श्री शर्मा ने कहा कि श्री राजीव गांधी नवाचार और प्रौद्योगिकी को बहुत महत्व देते थे और उन्होंने देश में सूचना युग की आधार शिला रखी थी।----
दिल्ली बिजली नियामक आयोग - डी ई आर सी - ने एक महत्वपूर्ण फैसले के तहत, बिजली की ज्यादा और कम खपत वाले समय के लिए अलग-अलग दरें लागू करने का फैसला किया है। इस व्यवस्था का उद्देश्य, बिजली की सबसे ज्यादा मांग वाले समय में उपभोक्ताओं को बिजली की खपत सीमित रखने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना है। फिलहाल यह व्यवस्था प्रायोगिक आधार पर शुरू की जा रही है। अनुमान है कि इस से वाणिज्यिक उपभोक्ता भी, ज्यादा मांग वाले समय में बिजली का उचित उपयोग करने के लिए प्रेरित होंगे जिससे आवासीय इलाकों में लोड शेडिंग कम होगी। दिल्ली यह योजना लागू करने वाला पहला राज्य होगा।----
पंजाब में पिछले कई साल में वन्य क्षेत्र में भारी कमी को देखते हुए, राज्य को हरा-भरा बनाने के लिए विशेष अभियान शुरू किया गया है। इसके तहत अगले आठ साल में राज्य में ४० करोड़ पौधे लगाये जाएंगे। मुख्यमंत्री प्रकाश सिंह बादल ने कहा है कि हर व्यक्ति कम से कम एक पेड़ लगाये और तीन वर्ष तक उसकी देखभाल करें। इससे पर्यावरण प्रदूषण रोका जा सकेगा और कैंसर, दमा और मधुमेह जैसे खतरनाक रोगों पर काबू पाने में मदद मिलेगी। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि पंजाब में वन क्षेत्र कम होकर केवल सात प्रतिशत रह गया है, जबकि नियमानुसार यह ३३ प्रतिशत से अधिक होना चाहिए। इस अभियान से उम्मीद है कि राज्य में वनक्षेत्र, कम से कम १५ प्रतिशत बढ़ेगा।अभियान के शुरू हो जाने से दो वर्षों के भीतर राज्य की १५ प्रतिशत भूमि वनों के तहत आ जाने की उम्मीद है। इस कार्य के लिए एक समर्पित फंड भी स्थापित किया गया है। राज्य वन मंत्री सुरजीत कुमार ध्यानी ने बताया कि इसे ३५ करोड से बढाकर ७२ करोड रूपये कर दिया गया है। राज्य के सभी बोर्डों को भी इस फंड में योगदान डालने को कहा गया है। सभी डिप्टी कमिश्नरों को निर्देश दिये गये हैं कि वह अपने जिलों में खाली सरकारी जगह पर पौधे लगाने को यकीनी बनाये और इस कार्य की साप्ताहिक प्रगति रिपोर्ट मुख्यमंत्री दफ्तर में प्रस्तुत करें। राजेश बाली, आकाशवाणी समाचार, जालंधर।

चीन की राजधानी पेइचिंग में जबरदस्त बारिश में कम से कम दस लोग मारे गए हैं। मुख्य हवाई अड्डे पर हजारों यात्रियों को परेशानियों का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। बीजिंग न्यूज के अनुसार, मुख्य हवाई अड्डे की पांच सौ से ज्यादा उड़ानें रद्द की गई हैं। सरकारी मीडिया ने बताया है कि कल तीसरे पहर शुरू हुई बारिश, रात भर जारी रही। कई सड़कों पर पानी भर गया है। ज्यादातर मौतें छतें ढहने, बिजली गिरने और करंट लगने से हुई हैं।सरकारी समाचार एजेंसी शिन्हुआ ने बताया है कि पेइचिंग के फांगशान जिले में ६६० मिलीमीटर वर्षा दर्ज की गई है। पेइचिंग में औसत वर्षा १७० मिलीमीटर रही है। शिन्हुआ ने कहा कि साढ़े १४ हजार लोगों को बचाया गया है। पेइचिंग के नगर प्रशासन ने चेतावनी दी है कि मौसम और खराब हो सकता है। इस बार पेइचिंग में वर्षा ने पिछले ६० साल से भी ज्यादा समय का रिकॉर्ड तोड़ दिया है।

The counting of votes in the presidential poll is on in Parliament House. Latest reports say, counting of votes of Members of Parliament has been concluded. Talking to reporters, Parliamentary affairs Minister Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, who is also the official representative of Mr Pranab Mukherjee, said that out of 748 votes of MPs, 733 were found valid. UPA's nominee Mr Pranab Mukherjee got 527 votes while the former Lok Sabha Speaker Mr P A Sangma polled 206 votes. Fifteen votes are found invalid.
Our correspondent reports, that the process of counting began at 11 this morning in the presence of authorised representatives of both the candidates. The results are likely to be declared late this afternoon. Besides the UPA and its supporting parties SP, BSP, RJD, JD(S), NDA partners JD U and Shiv Sena have also extended their support to Mr Pranab Mukherjee. CPIM, YSR Congress and Forward Bloc have also lent their support for the UPA nominee.
Former Lok Sabha speaker P A Sangma jumped in to the fray with initial support of the BJD and AIADMK. The BJP and Akali Dal decided to back him. Mr Sangma had quit NCP, the party which he founded with Mr Sharad Pawar to contest the presidential election. New President will be administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of India on Wednesday at the historic Central Hall of Parliament.

Army has been called in to maintain law and order situation in Kokrajhar district of Assam. Disclosing this to AIR, IGP of Boro Territorial Autonomous District, S.N. Singh said, 11 additional paramilitary and police forces have been deployed. Assam government has also deputed 10 additional senior police officials to maintain law and order. The State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has instructed the concerned departments to take necessary measures to maintain the law and order situation in Kokrajhar district.
Unidentified miscreants killed nine people and injured another eight in the last 48 hours. Another two bodies were recovered today near the Railway Bridge on Gaurang River. With this, the death toll has gone up to 11. The Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar today said that situation is tense but under control. He said that prohibitory orders under section 144 have also been issued in the district.

The State government has already announced an ex-gratia of 3 lakh rupees to the next of kin of the deceased and 50 thousand rupees to the injured. Various civil society organizations urged the people to maintain peace and harmony. District administration organized peace meeting involving people from various walks of life.

Crime Branch official of Mumbai Police today said that taking the voice samples of LeT operative Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal will be among the top priorities. The official informed that forensic expert will be called soon to conduct Jundal’s voice measurement through audio spectrometer.
A local court in Mumbai yesterday had remanded Jundal to 10 days police custody. According to Crime branch official Jundal's voice samples will be matched with the telephonic talks intercepted by intelligence agencies during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, in which 166 people, including some foreigners, were killed.
Speaking on the same line Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said that Security agencies in Delhi might have already taken Jundal's voice samples but as a probe agency of 26/11 attack, Crime branch will also take Jundal’s voice samples very soon.

The Centre has decided to provide skill-development training to one member of each family, which has completed 100 man days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, MGNREGA. Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh revealed this in Guwahati yesterday during the launch of a joint initiative by an education business group and Assam Government .
Lauding the efforts of Assam government in introducing computers in schools, Mr. Ramesh said that computer-based vocational education in schools is a major achievement of the state. A report from our correspondent.
"Assam has become the first state to start job oriented curriculum under National Vocational Education Qualification Framework .Initially vocational skills centres will be set up at 10 schools. The courses will be introduced for class 9th standard student from next month in retail and computer hardware and IT. S Ramadorai, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Skill Development hoped that vocational education in schools will harness the potential of youth and provide employment opportunities. In a major reform initiative, Delhi's power regulator DERC has decided to introduce a new system under which tariff will be charged according to electricity consumption in peak and off peak hours. According to officials in Delhi Regulatory Electricity Commission, the proposed mechanism, aimed at encouraging consumers to limit their power consumption in peak hours, will be introduced on a pilot basis.
The system, known as Time of Day (TOD) metering, is also expected to discourage commercial users from consuming more power during peak hours and result in minimising load shedding in residential areas when the demand goes up substantially. If implemented, Delhi will be the first state in the country to have such a metering system, which experts said, would benefit everybody including the consumers.

In Uttar Pradesh, the incessant rain has caused swelling of major rivers across the state. Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports, heavy to very heavy rain occurred in several eastern districts during the past twenty four hours.
The rain is still pouring in several eastern district whereas the sky is cloudy in several others. The monsoon is fully active in the area. Some western districts have also experienced moderate to heavy rain. The water level of several rivers including Sharda in Palia Kalan, and Rapti in Balrampur has reached near the danger level. The level of river Yamuna is rising in Naini in Allahabad while the Ganga is on rising trend between Allahabad and Ghazipur. Thousands of people are reported to have fled the Syrian city of Aleppo to escape fighting between government forces and rebels. Aleppo, until recently, a relatively secure government stronghold, has become the latest focus of the revolt against President Bashar Al-Assad. A report from Lebanon says, the clashes in Aleppo are an ominous development for the regime. Until just last weekend, both Damascus and Aleppo were relatively untouched by the uprising and remained strongholds of the regime.

The heaviest rainfall to hit China's capital Beijing in 60 years, has left 10 people dead and stranded thousands at the main airport. State media said, the deluge struck yesterday afternoon and continued into the night, flooding major roads. Roof collapses, lightning strikes and electrocution from downed power lines were among the causes of the deaths.
According to the Beijing News, more than 500 flights were cancelled at the main airport. State news agency Xinhua said, flooding and landslides also killed four people in northern Shanxi province and six in south-western Sichuan province.
It said, 460 mm rain fell in the capital's Fangshan district, with the capital as a whole averaging 170 mm. Xinhua said, 14,500 people, mostly in outlying districts, had to be evacuated. Beijing city government has warned there could be further large-scale storms or extreme weather.

About 200 protesters brought parts of central Hanoi to a brief halt today in the third rally this month against Beijing's perceived territorial assertiveness in the South China Sea. Demonstrators shouting anti-China slogans brought traffic around Hoan Kiem Lake in the centre of the Vietnamese capital to a standstill as they marched towards the Chinese embassy.
According to witnesses, the protesters were prevented from getting close to the mission building by security forces, but no arrests were made. The protests come at a time of rising regional tensions over the South China Sea, which is believed to contain vast oil and gas deposits and is the subject of a web of competing claims between Beijing and its neighbours.

In Pakistan, ten militants were killed in air strikes carried out by the security forces in Upper Orakzai Agency today. According to reports‚ the fighter jets pounded the hideouts of terrorists and destroyed four of their sanctuaries.

It has been confirmed that President Barack Obama is to go to Colorado later today to visit the survivors of the horrific attack on the cinema-goers in which 12 people were killed and nearly 60 injured. Police in the suburb of Amoura have spent two days to remove trip-wires and explosive devices which were set up inside the apartment of the suspected lone gunman, James Holms.
An FBI agent explained how the operation was made extremely hazardous by the number of booby-traps that were laid. A disposal robot cleared a trip-wire and then it controlled explosion to remove the threat of a bigger blast. The flat was cleared of chemicals and devices, which police said, would have killed anyone who entered.
The FBI is now sifting through the possessions for any evidence related to the attack in a movie theatre. Neighbours, who have been evacuated, are being allowed to return to their homes. The suspect, James Holms is expected to appear in court tomorrow. All the victims of the shooting have been identified.

The NATO-led coalition has said that three NATO soldiers have been killed in two separate incidents in restive eastern Afghanistan. In a statement issued today, two International Security Assistance Force, ISAF, service members died following an improvised explosive device attack in eastern Afghanistan today and another soldier was killed in an insurgent attack also in eastern part of the country yesterday.
The statement gave neither the nationalities of the victims nor the details about the incidents under the ISAF policy. Troops mostly from United States have been stationed in eastern Afghanistan within the framework of ISAF to curb Taliban-linked insurgency there. A total of 247 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far in this year.

In Iraq, at least five people were killed and 14 injured in a car bomb explosion in the holy Shiite city of Najaf today. An Interior Ministry source said, the attack occurred in the morning, when a booby-trapped car went off outside a popular restaurant in central Najaf, some 160 km south of Baghdad. The source said the powerful blast also destroyed parts of the restaurant and badly damaged several nearby shops and buildings.

In Egypt, gunmen bombed a gas pipeline in Sinai Peninsula last night for the 15th time since last February. A local security official today said the bombing of the conduit, which leads to Jordan, occurred about 2 kilometres from Arish, sending raging blazes to at least 15 meters high.
The official said no casualties were reported so far in the explosion, adding that local security forces rushed to the place to monitor the situation and firefighters were still trying to extinguish the fire. According to eyewitnesses, a group of masked gunmen driving cars bombed the pipeline. So far no group has claimed responsibility.

A US military fighter jet today crashed into the sea off northern Japan and its solo pilot is waiting for rescue at sea after ejecting. A spokesman at the Japan Coast Guard said the F-16 jet crashed off Nemuro, about 1,000 kilometres north of Tokyo. He said the pilot ejected and is now waiting for rescue at sea.

Keeping in view the massive deforestation in Punjab in the last many years, the state government has launched ‘Greening Punjab Campaign’ to plant 40 crore saplings across the state in the next eight years. The process has already started. The Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal has given a clarion call to the people of the State to plant at least one tree each and maintain it for at least three years.
Our Jalandhar Correspondent reports that the forest cover in Punjab has gone down to just 7 per cent against the required cover of more than 33 per cent as per the Government of India norms. With this campaign, the state is expecting to enhance the cover to a minimum of 15 per cent in the coming years.
"A dedicated “Greening Punjab Fund” has been constituted for this purpose. State Forest Minister, Surjit Kumar Jayani has told AIR that the fund has also been increased from 35 to 72 crores rupees per year. He said every board has also been asked to contribute towards the fund. All the deputy commissioners have been asked to identify vacant government land in their respective districts for ensuring massive plantation on it and also submit weekly progress reports in the CMO. Union Human Resource Development Ministry has decided to take up preservation of Jammu and Kashmir's rich manu wealth under national preservation mission. Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said that his Ministry will also take up translation of standard books of different languages into local languages of Jammu and Kashmir and vice versa. He was speaking at a function organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at Srinagar last evening. A power point presentation was also made on the multi-crore 'Tehzeeb Mahal', being set up in Srinagar as the hub of art, culture and literary activities.
