करीब साढ़े चार करोड़ मतदाता २७४८ उम्मीदवारों के भाग्य का आज फैसला करेंगे। इस बार १४१ महिला उम्मीदवार भी चुनाव मैदान में हैं। चुनाव आयोग ने स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव के लिए बड़े पैमाने पर इंतजाम किए हैं। पूरे राज्य में केंद्रीय सुरक्षा बलों और राज्य पुलिस बल के जवान तैनात किए गए हैं। वहीं संवेदनशील मतदान केंद्रो की दिल्ली और चेन्नई स्थिति चुनाव अधिकारियों द्वारा वैब कैमरों के जरिए निगाह रखी जाएगी। इस बार चुनाव आयोग की ओर से पहली बार मतदाताओं को वोटर सिलिप का वितरण किया गया है। संजय प्रताप सिंह, आकाशवाणी समाचार, चेन्न्ई।

अमरीका ने पाकिस्तान को, मुंबई हमलों के आतंकवादियों के खिलाफ कानूनी कार्रवाई करने की उसकी खास जिम्मेदारी के बारे में याद दिलाया है और कहा है कि वह जल्द ये कार्रवाई करे। अमरीका के विदेश विभाग के प्रवक्ता मार्कटोनर ने वांशिगटन में अपने दैनिक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में यह बात कही। उन्होंने तहव्वुर हुसैन राणा के बयान पर टिप्पणी करने से यह कहते हुए इन्कार कर दिया कि मामला अदालत में विचाराधीन है। मुंबई हमलों के आरोपी, पाकिस्तानी मूल के कनाडा के नागरिक तहव्वुर हुसैन राणा ने इससे पहले अदालत में कहा था कि उसने इस मामले से जुड़े आतंकवादियों को महत्वपूर्ण सहायता, आतंकवादी गुट लश्करे तैयबा के कहने पर नहीं, बल्कि पाकिस्तान सरकार और उसकी खुफिया एजेंसी आई एस आई के कहने पर उपलब्ध कराई थी।
कल रात नई दिल्ली में जारी विदेश मंत्रालय के बयान के अनुसार भारतीयों को एक चार्टर विमान बोइंग ७३७ से घाना की राजधानी अकरा ले जाया गया और वहां भारतीय उच्चायोग के अधिकारियों ने उन्हें आवश्यक सहायता उपलब्ध कराई।

जापान के प्रधानमंत्री नाओतो कान ने कहा है कि पिछले महीने भूकंप और त्सुनामी से प्रभावित फुकुशिमा संयंत्र से विकिरण लीक होने के बावजूद उसके आस-पास के क्षेत्र में उत्पाद खाने के लिए सुरक्षित हैं। उन्होंने लोगों से आग्रह किया कि वे सामान्य जीवन की ओर लौट आएं । संयुक्त राष्ट्र के परमाणु विशेषज्ञों ने भी इस क्षेत्र में खाने पीने की चीजों को सुरक्षित बताया है।जापान द्वारा फुकुशिमा में परमाणु खतरे को अधिकतम स्तर तक घोषित करने के बाद श्री कान ने यह बात कही।

नागर विमानन महानिदेशालय-डीजीसीए ने करीब एक सप्ताह पहले गोआ हवाई अड्डे पर कुछ महत्वपूर्ण मार्गदर्शक उपकरणों की मरम्मत के कारण इस महीने की तीस तारीख तक विमान न उतारने के निर्देशों का उल्लंघन करने के लिए चार कम्पनियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की है। डी जी सी ए प्रमुख ई के भारत भूषण ने बताया कि इन कम्पनियों ने इस बारे में नोटिस जारी करने के बावजूद उड़ानों का संचालन किया। उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसी कंपनियों को इसके लिए खामियाजा भुगताना होगा।.....................................

Voting for the 14th assembly elections has just begun in Tamil Nadu. There are 2748 candidates in fray for 234 Assembly seats. The ruling DMK party is contesting from 119 seats while the AIADMK is contesting from 160 seats .And now we have online our Chennai correspondent Sanjay Ghosh.

In Puducherry, all necessary arrangements have been made for peaceful polling for the 30 member Assembly. Our correspondent reports:
Polling party 30 assembly seats in the Union territory of Puducherry just began on brisk note today. Long queues particularly of women have been seen in front of several booths even before the schedule time of 8 to come on poll. More than 8 Lakh 10 thousand electorate will decide the electoral fortunes of 187 candidates. Elaborate security arrangement have been made to ensure fair and free polling, with Ratnam reporting for Puducherry.

In Jammu and Kashmir, multi-phase panchayat polls begin today. All necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure free and fair elections to be held after a gap of 10 years. Eight blocks including Bishnah, Samba and Udhampur in Jammu district and Kangan, Budgam, Quimouh and Kupwara in Kashmir region will go to the polls in the first phase.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that the BRICS countries- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa should combine their huge potential to continue enhancing their coordination on major issues of common concern. Dr. Singh told Chinese news agency Xinhua ahead of the summit that the grouping should coordinate better on issues such as the world economy, democratic and equitable world order and global governance reform. The Prime Minister said there is a substantive agenda for the summit. That includes discussions on the international situation, international economic and financial issues, development and sectorial cooperation. On cooperation with China, Dr. Manmohan Singh said India and China are both witnessing rapid growth. Expressing concern over the trade deficit between the two countries, the Prime Minister asserted that more efforts need to be made to promote Indian exports to China. AIR correspondent reports that the two high profile meetings of Prime Minister with the Presidents of China Hu Jintao, and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev are scheduled to be held today.
Reviving t` military exchanges, staple visa issue and the situation in Libya and other countries are expected to dominate the agenda of talks between Dr. Singh and Hu Jintao apart from enhancing the trade ties .The focus of trade talks will be on reducing the trade balance between the two countries. China has promised to open market for Indian Pharma industry and IT sectors to address this concern. The trade ministers meeting of the BRICS countries will fine tune the pact to enable members of the grouping to have regional credit lines in their own currencies which is scheduled to be signed at the end of the summit. Meanwhile Authoritative sources said in New Delhi India and China that the two countries will have joint military exercises this year. Both countries had suspended high level defence exchanges after a senior officer of the northern command was denied a visa last year. Sources said that the staple visa issue is also moving forward and that New Delhi is keeping a watch over developments. Dismissing reports about slow progress in the development of border infrastructure, sources said that most of the roads along the border have been completed and maintained that the border with China has been calm.

A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court will hear today the Centre's plea for prosecuting the Bhopal gas tragedy case accused, who have escaped with lighter punishment of two year jail term, under the stringent penal provision attracting a maximum of ten years of imprisonment. The bench headed by Chief Justice S H Kapadia will take up the curative petition seeking to recall the apex court's 14-year-old judgment that had diluted the charges against the accused who were prosecuted just for the offence of being negligent.

The United State has reminded Pakistan of its "special" responsibility to bring perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks to justice and asked it to do so "urgently". State Department spokesman Mark Toner told this to reporters at his daily news conference in Washington. However Mr Toner has refused to make any comment on the statement by Tahawwur Hussain Rana arguing that this is sub-judice. Rana, the Pakistani Canadian accused in the Mumbai terror attack case, has earlier claimed before a court that he provided "material support" to the terrorists at the behest of the Pakistan Government and its spy agency the ISI and not the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Sixty six Indian nationals, including 11 women and 12 children, were safely evacuated from Abidjan, the capital of civil war-torn Ivory Coast and taken to the neighbouring country Ghana. According to a statement of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi last night,the Indians were flown to Ghanian capital Accra on a Boeing 737 aircraft chartered by the Ministry and were given necessary consular and other assistance by the Indian High Commission officials there. Contrary to earlier reports, the United Nations says the former President of Ivory Coast Laurent Gbagbo is still being held in the country's main city, Abidjan.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation the (DGCA) cracked the whip on four airlines for violating its directive not to operate flights to Goa during certain hours when ground navigational aids at the airport are not operational. About a week ago, the DGCA had issued a notice to airmen in this regard. DGCA chief E K Bharat Bhushan told PTI that despite the warnings to respect curfew hours, some airlines have violated this directive and that they will have to pay for it.
