The Commonwealth has called for coordinated and timely emergency relief efforts to deal with immediate food crisis. The Declaration adopted at the end of CHOGM at Perth yesterday said the Food Security Principles should have regional and global approach. Calling for preventing food crisis from occurring it said the efforts should aim at mitigating their impacts and on building resilience.
Reaffirming everyone's right to have access to safe, sufficient and nutritious food, the declaration urged members to improve market access for food producers. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said the Declaration commits to the importance of reducing barriers to trade in agriculture.
The first declaration on food security setting out principle that should guard us as we grapple with this challenge. The declaration commits us to the importance of reducing barriers to trade in agriculture, improving agricultural productivity and making it easy to farming in developing countries to grow foods and to get it to markets
The Common Wealth Heads of Government meeting at Perth has decided to go in for further discussions on the issue of appointing a Commissioner for Human Rights. At a joint press briefing with Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma said there are a variety of views on the issue among member countries and further consultations are required. He said the report by the Eminent Persons' Group on the reforms in the Commonwealth only suggests that there should be a Commissioner for Human Rights but is silent on the modalities of it. He said there are 106 recommendations. Our correspondent reports from Perth that the leaders from the Commonwealth which consists of 54 countries met at a retreat to chalk out their response to a series of proposals they had commissioned.
Though two significant decisions like Australian assistance for Polio eradication programme, the adoption of Perth declaration on Food Security Principles stole the show at CHOGM, the divide on the issue of Human Rights commissioner did take away some sheen from the Perth Agenda. Prime Minister Gillard could work out a compromise formula to lessen the sharp differences between the developed and the developing countries. Ahmad Badawi, the chair of the Eminent Persons’ report on reforms stole the day with his warning that CHOGM 2011 will be doomed if it does not embrace bold reforms on human rights and other contentious issues.

India is all set to witness its maiden Formula One grand prix extravaganza today at the Budh International Circuit in Greater Noida. Our correspondent covering the event reports that the spectacular event will begin to unfold at three this evening and will finish by five.
When 24 Formula one drivers rev up their cars at the 1,700 crore rupee over five kilometre Buddh International Circuit for the blockbuster Indian Grand Prix race today, it will be a red letter day for Indian motorsports. India now has the honour of hosting a formula one Grand Prix, something not many countries can boast of. Some of the world's top F1 drivers - Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button - will display their talents and skills in navigating the hairpin bends at the virgin track that the hosts are so justifiably proud of. India's very own Force India will challenge the other top teams: Renault, McLaren-Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari, and their glamorous drivers. With the western economies dropping into a lower gear, India has become an important pit stop for the future of F1 as a sport, and the Bernie Ecclestone-led Formula One Management is aggressively looking for new spectators and sponsors in emerging economies. This is Manikant Thakur for AIR News.
The new formula one world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull yesterday scorched his way to the pole position while five drivers were imposed penalty for different breaches in the inaugural Indian Grand Prix qualifying session.

"It was new formula one world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull who drank Champagne out of maiden Indian Grand Prix cup after storming to position one at the Event. Great race, great event, great people, this is how he tried to sum up the spectacular sports extravaganza which saw a great fanfare right from the  beginning. A slow middle sector in lap 39 slowed Jenson Button down too much for him to offer any challenge for Vettel who won his 11th race of the year. He eventually finished 8.4 seconds slower while Fernando Alonso, who came in third, was 15.8 seconds off Vettel. The best competition on the track for most of the second half was between Mark Webber and Alonso and between Michael Schumacher and Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, both battles between two seconds of the competing cars. Schumacher finished fifth while Alonso came in third despite Webber’s late effort which saw him pull to within a second of the Spaniard in the Ferrari. Williams’ Pastor Maldonado was the first retirement of the race because of a gearbox problem while Sebastian Buemi, who had showed some great skill through the early half of the race, threw in the towel after his car began to pour out smoke.Vettel, who led from start to finish , is now on course to equal Schumacher’s 2004 record of 13-wins in one season.
