छत्तीसगढ़ में सभी लोग सुकमा जिले के कलेक्टर एलेक्स पॉल मेनन की रिहाई के लिए दक्षिण बस्तर के घने जंगलों में माओवादियों के साथ बातचीत के बाद वार्ताकार बी डी शर्मा और प्रोफेसर हरगोपाल के आज रायपुर लौटने की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं। ये दोनों वार्ताकार नक्सल नेताओं के साथ बातचीत के लिए कल रायपुर से माओवादियों के ठिकाने गए थे। सूत्रों का कहना है कि कल ये सुकमा जिले में चिंतलनार तक हेलीकाप्टर से गए और उसके बाद टाडमेटला तक सड़क मार्ग से गए। उन्हें माओवादियों का एक गुट जंगलों में अज्ञात स्थल तक ले गया।  वार्ता दोनों मध्यस्थों के रायपुर पहुंचने के बाद फिर शुरु होगी। माओवादियों के दो मध्यस्थों और सरकार के मध्यस्थों निर्मला बुच और एस के मिश्रा के बीच दो दौर की वार्ता हो चुकी है। उच्चस्तरीय ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि वार्ता सही दिशा में चल रही है।   

खबर के मुताबिक कल रायपुर से हैलीकॉप्टर में चिंतलनार पहुंचने के बाद माओवादियों के दोनों वार्ताकार मोटरसाइकिल में सवार होकर टाडमेटला पहुंचे। वहां से साथ चल रहे कुछ मीडियाकर्मियों को रोक दिया गया और माओवादियों के दस्ता द्वारा उन्हें घने जंगल की ओर ले जाया गया। माओवादी नेताओं के साथ जिलाधीश की रिहाई को लेकर चर्चा के बाद वार्र्ताकारों को रायपुर लौटना है। हालांकि उनके वापसी की कोई निश्चित समय के बारे में पता नहीं चल पाया है। ये जरूर है कि उनके वापसी के बाद ही अपहरण कांड का मुद्दा आगे बढ़ेगा। रायपुर से गिरीश चंद्र दास।  
माओवादियों ने श्री मेनन के बदले जेल में बंद उनके १७ साथियों की रिहाई और उनके खिलाफ चलाए जा रहे अभियान ÷÷ग्रीन हंट'' ऑपरेशन रोकने तथा बस्तर में सुरक्षा बलों को हटाने की मांग की है।

दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने भारतीय जनता पार्टी के पूर्व अध्यक्ष बंगारू लक्ष्मण को फर्जी रक्षा सौदे में एक लाख रुपए की रिश्वत लेने के मामले में चार साल के कठार कारावास की सजा सुनाई है। सजा में नरमी बरतने के अनुरोध को खारिज करते हुए सीबीआई ंके विशेष न्यायाधीश कंवलजीत अरोड़ा ने लक्ष्मण पर एक लाख रुपए का जुर्माना भी लगाया। बाद में उन्हें तिहाड़ जेल ले जाया गया। उनके वकील ने कहा कि वे सजा को उच्च न्यायालय में चुनौती देंगे। वर्ष २००१ में तहलका पोर्टल के स्टिंग ऑपरेशन में बंगारू लक्ष्मण को रिश्वत लेते दिखाए जाने के ग्यारह वर्ष बाद उन्हें सजा सुनाई गई है।
किसी भी राष्ट्रीय दल के अध्यक्ष को पार्टी मुख्यायल में रिश्वत लेने के लिए भ्रष्टाचार का दोषी पाए जाने और जेल की सजा सुनाने का यह पहला मामला है।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने इस फैसले पर प्रतिक्रिया में कहा है कि अदालत ने बंगारू लक्ष्मण के निजी आचरण के लिए उनको दोषी ठहराया है, पार्टी को नहीं। पार्टी प्रवक्ता शाहनवाज हुसैन ने नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों से कहा कि उनकी पार्टी भ्रष्टाचार के विरुद्ध है।

कानून अपना काम कर रहा है और उसमें उनको पूरा अधिकार है कि वो कानून के जरिए अपनी बात को री-अदालत में रखें। ये उनका व्यक्तिगत प्रकरण था। उस पर फैसला आया है। भारतीय जनता पार्टी भ्रष्टाचार को कभी कवरअप नहीं करती। भारतीय जनता पार्टी भ्रष्टाचार से मजबूती से लड़ती है और आगे भी लड़ती रहेगी।
कांग्रेस ने अपनी प्रतिक्रिया में कहा है कि यह बड़ी चिंता की बात है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता राशिद अल्वी ने कहा है कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी को इस पर गम्भीरता से सोचना चाहिए।

किसी भी राजनीतिक दल का राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष रहे हुए नेता को पहली बार शायद आजाद हिन्दुस्तान के अंदर सजा मिली है। मुझे बहुत अफसोस है इस वाक्ये से और मैं समझता हॅूं कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी के लिए ये चिंता का विषय है और साथ-साथ उन्हें अब अपने बारे में आत्मचिंतन करने की जरूरत है।

केंद्र ने गृहमंत्री पी चिदंबरम पर जनता पार्टी अध्यक्ष सुब्रह्‌मण्यम स्वामी द्वारा  लगाए आरोपों को निराधार बताते हुए खारिज कर दिया है। श्री स्वामी ने  एयरसेल-मैक्सिस इक्विटी मामले में गृहमंत्री पर आरोप लगाए थे। नई दिल्ली में  जारी  सरकारी विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि विदेशी निवेश संवर्द्धन बोर्ड के रिकॉर्ड देखने के बाद यह बिल्कुल साफ हो गया कि इस मामले में कोई विलंब नहीं हुआ।
दो दिन पहले ही श्री स्वामी ने तत्कालीन वित्तमंत्री चिदंबरम पर आरोप लगाया था कि २००६ में एयरसेल की मलेशिया स्थित कंपनी मैक्सिस को बेचने की अनुमति में विलंब किया गया ताकि उनके बेटे कार्तिक को आर्थिक लाभ पहुंचाया जा सके।

राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील सेशेल्स और दक्षिण अफ्रीका की ९ दिन की यात्रा पर आज सुबह विक्टोरिया के लिए रवाना हो रही हैं।  राष्ट्रपति के साथ जा रहे हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि दोनों देशों के साथ आपसी व्यापार संबंधों को मजबूत बनाने पर प्रमुख रूप से चर्चा की जाएगी।

भारत और सेशेल्स के व्यापार संबंधों में अब भी बहुत संभावनाएं हैं। वर्ष २०१०-११ में दोनों के बीच चार करोड़ चार लाख डॉलर का कारोबार हुआ। भारत ने सेशेल्स को तीन करोड़ ११ लाख डॉलर का निर्यात किया, जबकि ९२ लाख डॉलर का आयात हुआ। सेशेल्स के साथ जिन क्षेत्रों में व्यापार बढ़ाने की संभावनाएं हैं उनमें पर्यटन, स्वास्थ्य, संचार और सूचना टेक्नोलॉजी, खाद्य प्रसंस्करण, वित्तीय सेवाएं, अक्षय ऊर्जा, इंजीनियरिंग, बिजली का साजो-सामान और कपड़े शामिल हैं। सेशेल्स, छोटे-छोटे द्वीपों का समूह है, इसलिए वहां मछली पकड़ने और उससे जुड़े उद्योगों की काफी संभावनाएं हैं। दक्षिण अफ्रीका के साथ वर्ष-२०१०-११ में भारत का कुल ११ अरब  १२ करोड़ अमरीकी डॉलर का कारोबार हुआ, जिसमें सात अरब १४ करोड़ डॉलर का आयात और तीन अरब ९८ करोड़ डॉलर का निर्यात शामिल है। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए मणिकांत ठाकुर के साथ मैं तौहीद खान।

अफगानिस्तान में दशकों से जारी संघर्ष के राजनीतिक समाधान के लिए अफगान-तालिबान ने कतर में अमरीका के साथ वार्ता शुरू की है। दोनों पक्षों की तरफ से अब तक बातचीत में कोई प्रगति नहीं हुई है। द न्यूज डेली ने एक अज्ञात वरिष्ठ तालिबानी नेता के हवाले से खबर दी है कि दोनों पक्ष वार्ता के शुरुआती दौरों में अपनी कड़ी शर्तों पर अड़े हैं।
तालिबानी नेताओं का कहना है कि उन्हें तत्काल किसी हल की उम्मीद नहीं है।  तालिबान और अमरीकी चाहते हैं कि वार्ता में पाकिस्तान को भी शामिल किया जाए लेकिन अफगानिस्तान सरकार  इसके पक्ष में नहीं हैं।

मिस्र की पार्लियामेंट में दूसरी सबसे बड़ी पार्टी अल-नूर ने राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए अब्दल मोनेम अबल फोतोह का समर्थन करने का फैसला किया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए चार उम्मीदवार मैदान में हैं।

मिस्र में २३ और २४ मई को होने वाले राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में सलाफिस्त पार्टियों ने मुस्लिम ब्रदरहुड के पूर्व प्रचारक रहे अब्दुल मोनेम अबोल फतेह को अपना समर्थन देने का ऐलान किया है। सलाफिस्ट पार्टियों के इस कदम का असर मुस्लिम ब्रदरहुड के आधिकारिक उम्मीदवार फ्रीडम एंड जस्टिस पार्टी के चेयरमैन मलिक मोहम्मद बोरसी की दावेदारी पर पड़ सकता है। मिस्र के संसदीय चुनाव में इस्लामिक पार्टियां दो तिहाई बहुमत जीतकर सामने आईं हैं। सलाफिस्त के ताजा कदम से दो अन्य उम्मीदवारों पूर्व विदेश मंत्री आम्रे मूसा और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री अहमद शफीक की राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए दावेदारी को बल मिलेगा। अतुल तिवारी, आकाशवाणी समाचार।

माली में पिछले महीने के तख्तापलट के नेता अमादू सनागो ने देश में नागरिक शासन की बहाली पर निगरानी के लिए सेना भेजने केक्षेत्रीय गुट इकोवास के फैसले को नामंजूर कर दिया है। इकोवास के मध्यस्थों के साथ राजधानी बमाको में बैठक में सैनिकों ने बाधा पहुंचाई।
माली के सैनिक नेता देश में नागरिक शासन की बहाली की निगरानी और सरकारी विद्रोहियों को नियंत्रित करने के लिए कम से कम तीन हजार सैनिकों का दस्ता भेजने की योजना से नाराज हैं।

मध्य प्रदेश सरकार ने निलंबित आईएएस अधिकारी अरविंद जोशी को बर्खास्त करने का प्रस्ताव केंद्र सरकार को भेजा है। श्री जोशी और उनकी आईएएस पत्नी टीनू जोशी को २०१० में उनके भोपाल निवास पर आयकर के छापे के बाद निलंबित कर दिया गया था। आयकर अधिकारियों ने उनके आवास से तीन करोड़ रूपए से अधिक नकदी बरामद की थी। आयकर विभाग के सूत्रों के अनुसार निलंबित आईएएस दंपती और उनके रिश्तेदारों के पास लगभग २८० करोड़ रुपए से अधिक की संपत्ति हैं

राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल ने कल पांच नए राज्यपालों की नियुक्ति की। श्री ई. एस. एल. नरसिम्हन को आंध्र प्रदेश का और श्री के. शंकर नारायणन को दूसरे कार्यकाल के लिए महाराष्ट्र का राज्यपाल बनाया गया है। कांग्रेस नेता और उत्तराखंड की राज्यपाल श्रीमती मारग्रेट अल्वा को बाकी बचे हुए कार्यकाल के लिए राजस्थान भेजा गया है। डॉ. अज+ीज+ कुरैशी श्रीमती मारग्रेट अल्वा के स्थान पर उत्तराखंड के नए राज्यपाल होंगे। एसपीजी के पूर्व प्रमुख श्री बी. वी. वांचू को गोवा का नया राज्यपाल बनाया गया है।

उत्तर प्रदेश में सत्तारूढ़ समाजवादी पार्टी ने विधान परिषद के पूर्व सदस्य ख्वाजा हलीम का पार्टी से निलंबन रद्द कर दिया है। हमारे लखनऊ संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि हलीम को पार्टी का सदस्य नहीं होने के बावजूद हाल ही में राज्य हज समिति में शामिल किया गया था। राज्य के हज मंत्री मोहम्मद आज+म खान द्वारा हलीम को समिति का सदस्य बनाए जाने से विवाद खड़ा हो गया था। पार्टी अध्यक्ष मुलायम सिंह यादव ने हलीम का निलंबन रद्द करके अटकलों पर विराम लगा दिया है। हलीम को पार्टी विरोधी गतिविधियों में शामिल होने के आरोप की वजह से निलंबित किया गया था।

In Chhattisgarh, all eyes are now focussed on the return of the two Maoists’ negotiators Mr. BD Sharma and Prof. Hargopal to Raipur today after talks with the Maoists in the dense forests of South Bastar for the release of Sukma district collector Alex Paul Menon. The duo travelled from Raipur yesterday to the Maoists’ hideout for discussion with Naxal leaders. Highly placed police sources told All India Radio this morning that the talks are moving in a positive direction. More from our correspondent:
 
”After having air-dashed to Chintalnar in Sukma district by helicopter yesterday, they motored off to Tadmetla from where they were led by a group of Maoists to an undisclosed location in the jungle. Talks on the crisis are expected to resume after their arrival in
Raipur later today. The collector had been taken hostage by the Maoists more than a week ago from village Manjhipara in the Sukma district. Two rounds of talks have already been held between the two negotiators of the MaoistsMr. Sharma and ProfHargopal and the government mediators Nirmala Buch and S.K. Mishra to resolve the issue. A Delhi court has sentenced former BJP President Bangaru Laxman to four years rigorous imprisonment for taking  one lakh rupees as bribe in a fictitious defence deal case. Turning down his  plea for leniency, Special CBI Judge Kanwal Jeet Arora  also imposed a fine of one lakh rupees on Laxman. Later he was taken to Tihar Jail. His counsel said they will move the high court to challenge his conviction.  The sentence comes 11 years after Bangaru Laxman was caught taking bribe  in a sting operation by the Tehelka Portal in 2001.
The court said by accepting the bribe, Bangaru Laxman had agreed to compromise with the security and safety of the nation and the lives of lakhs of soldiers, who fight for the nation without fear for their lives.
This is the first instance of a national party president getting convicted and sentenced to a jail term in a corruption case for accepting bribe in his office chamber at the party headquarters.

The Centre has rejected Janata Party Chief Subramanian Swamy's allegations against Home Minister P Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis equity issue describing these as totally baseless. A government release issued in New Delhi said that after perusing records of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board it is abundantly clear that there was no delay whatsoever. The release said, it is unfortunate that baseless allegations are made without verifying the facts.
The government statement comes two days after Mr Swamy accused Mr Chidambaram, the then Finance Minister of delaying permission for the sale of Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis in 2006 so that his son Karti is financially benefited.

The President, Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has appointed five new Governors. Mr. E.S.L. Narasimhan has been appointed Governor of Andhra Pradesh, while  K. Sankaranarayanan has been appointed Governor of Maharashtra for a fresh term.  The veteran Congress leader and Governor of Uttrakhand, Mrs. Margaret Alva has been shifted as Governor to Rajasthan for the remaining period of her tenure. Dr. Aziz Qureshi will take over in place of  Mrs. Margaret Alva as new  Governor of Uttarakhand.  Former SPG Chief Mr. B.V. Wanchoo, is the new  Governor of Goa.

In Assam, three militants belonging to the banned Garo National Liberation Army, GNLA have been arrested by the police at Gorchuk on the outskirts of Guwahati city today. Acting on a tip off, the Assam and Meghalaya police launched a joint operation in the area and arrested the ultras. The Police recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition besides explosives from the possession of the militants. As many as 10 GNLA militants have been arrested during last few days in the intensified joint operation by the police forces in bordering areas of both the states.

The Madhya Pradesh government has sent a proposal to the centre to sack suspended IAS officer Arvind Joshi.  Joshi and his IAS wife Tinu Joshi had been suspended following a raid at their Bhopal residence by income tax officials in 2010. Income tax officers had recovered more than three crore rupees in cash from their residence. According to Income Tax Department sources the suspended IAS couple and their relative’s unaccounted wealth has been assessed at about 280 crore rupees.

The President Mrs.Pratibha Devi Singh Patil leaves for Victoria this morning on a nine day state visit to the Seychelles and South Africa beginning today. She will discuss issues of bilateral, regional and International concern with her counterparts in the two countries. In the first leg of her two nation tour, the President will arrive in Victoria, the capital of Seychelles this afternoon. Our correspondent reports that augmenting bilateral trade relations with both the African nations is high on the agenda.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has strongly critized the ruling BJP in Karnataka, saying its  double standard on corruption, has been exposed. The Afghan Taliban have resumed talks with the United States in Qatar to find a political solution to the decades-old conflict in Afghanistan. The two sides have, however, been unable to make headway in the parleys so far. Senior unnamed Taliban leaders were quoted as saying by The News daily  that  the two sides are sticking to hard conditions during the initial rounds of talks.
The Taliban had opened an office in
Qatar on January the 3rd and named it their diplomatic office for talks with the United States.  A five-member Taliban delegation led by Tayyab Agha, brother-in-law and spokesman for Afghan Taliban supreme commander Mullah Mohammad Omar, travelled to Qatar three weeks ago and held two rounds of talks with US officials.

सरकार नक्सली हिंसा से प्रभावित नौ राज्यों के दूर-दराज के इलाकों में इस वर्ष के अंत तक दो हजार दो सौ मोबाइल टावर लगायेगी। ये टावर ऐसे इलाकों में लगाए जाएंगे जहां टेलीफोन की सुविधाएं नहीं है। गृह मंत्रालय के अनुरोध पर दूर-संचार विभाग ने भारत संचार निगम लिमिटेड से दूरदराज के दुर्गम इलाकों में मोबाइल टावर लगाने को कहा हैं। सरकारी सूत्रों के अनुसार ये टावर राज्य सरकार से विचार विमर्श के बाद सुरक्षा बलों, पुलिस थानों तथा अन्य संवेदनशील ठिकानों के आसपास लगाये जायेंगे, क्योंकि अकसर नक्सली इन्हीं ठिकानों को निशाना बनाते हैं। यह प्रस्ताव जल्द ही केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल के समक्ष रखा जाएगा। मंजूरी मिलने के बाद इस पर  तत्काल काम शुरू हो जाएगा। इस योजना का लाभ जिन राज्यों को मिलेगा उनमें छत्तीसगढ़, झारखंड, ओडीशा, बिहार, पश्चिम बंगाल और महाराष्ट्र शामिल हैं।

छत्तीसगढ़ में, सुकमा के जिला कलेक्टर एलेक्स पॉल मेनन को छुड़ाने के लिए दक्षिण बस्तर के जंगलों में गए माओवादियों के मध्यस्थ बी.डी. शर्मा और प्रोफेसर हरगोपाल आज चिन्तलनार लौट आए हैं। उनके आज ही राजधानी रायपुर पहुंचने की संभावना है।
चिन्तलनार में उन्होंने मीडिया से कहा कि श्री मेनन नक्सलियों के कब्ज+े में सुरक्षित हैं। लेकिन उन्होंने माओवादियों से हुई बातचीत का ब्यौरा नहीं दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि वे सबसे पहले, सरकार के वार्ताकारों, निर्मला बुच और एस.के. मिश्रा के साथ रायपुर में विचार-विमर्श करेंगे।
सरकारी वार्ताकारों के साथ दो बार की बातचीत के बाद, दोनों मध्यस्थ कल माओवादी नेताओं के साथ चर्चा के लिए सुकमा जिले में ताड़मेटला के जंगलों में गए थे।

असम में गुवाहाटी शहर और उसके आसपास के इलाकों में प्रतिबंधित गारो नेशनल लिबरेशन आर्मी-जी.एन.एल.ए.- के उग्रवादियों को पकड़ने के लिए पुलिस और केन्द्रीय बल संयुक्त अभियान चला रहे हैं। गुवाहाटी के पास असम-मेघालय सीमा पर कई उग्रवादियों के छिपे होने की खबर मिलने के बाद ये अभियान तेज कर दिया गया है। पुलिस को शक है कि मेघालय के गारो पहाड़ी इलाके में इस उग्रवादी गुट के खिलाफ बड़ा अभियान शुरू होने के बाद वे गुवाहाटी इलाके में भाग आए होंगे। असम पुलिस, मेघालय पुलिस और केन्द्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल के जवानों ने कल गुवाहाटी के गारचुक इलाके से जी.एन.एल.ए. के चार उग्रवादियों को गिरफ्‌तार किया है। उनके पास से एक एके-५६ राइफल, एक एचके-राइफल, गोली-बारूद और दस्तावेज बरामद किए गए हैं।

केन्द्र ने राष्ट्रीय कृषि विकास योजना के तहत एक विशेष परियोजना के लिए तीन अरब रुपये दिये हैं। इस योजना का उद्देश्य ज्वार, बाजरा, रागी, कोरा और समई जैसे मोटे अनाजों की पैदावार बढ़ाकर, खासकर गरीब तबकों की खाद्य सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करना है। इस विशेष परियोजना के तहत आंध्रप्रदेश के विशाखापत्तनम जिले में दस एजेंसी मंडलों के १७ ग्राम-समूहों में रागी और समई की खेती में तेजी लाई गई है।

उत्तरप्रदेश में गोरखपुर जिले में आज दोपहर एक बड़ी सड़क दुर्घटना में कम से कम २० लोग मारे गये और कई घायल हो गये। जिला पुलिस प्रमुख ने हमारे लखनऊ संवाददाता को बताया कि जिले के चिलुआताल इलाके में आमने-सामने से आ रही दो बसों के आपस में टकरा जाने के कारण यह दुर्घटना हुई। उन्होंने बताया कि घायलों को बी आर डी मेडिकल कॉलेज अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है। जिला पुलिस प्रमुख ने बताया कि मरने वालों की संख्या बढ़ सकती है क्योंकि कुछ घायलों की हालत गम्भीर है।
उन्होंने बताया कि इनमें से एक बस उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य सड़क परिवहन निगम की थी, जो सोनोली जा रही थी। दूसरी निजी बस गोरखपुर जा रही थी। जिला प्रमुख ने बताया कि हताहतों में निजी बस के यात्रियों की संख्या ज्यादा है। राहत और बचाव कार्य की देखरेख के लिए वरिष्ठ पुलिस और प्रशासनिक अधिकारी दुर्घटनास्थल पर पहुंच गये हैं।

देश में बने राडार इमेजिंग सेटेलाइट रीसेट-वन को उसकी अंतिम कक्षा में स्थापित कर दिया गया है। इसे २६ अप्रैल को छोड़ा गया था। भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन-इसरो के बयान में कहा गया है कि इस उपग्रह की कक्षा की ऊंचाई को बढ़ाकर पांच सौ ३६ किलोमीटर किया गया है और यह ठीक ढंग से काम कर रहा है और जल्द ही सी-बैंड सिंथेटिक अपर्चर राडार का परीक्षण किया जाएगा। बयान में कहा गया है कि रीसेट-वन राडार सूरज की किरणों के बगैर भी पृथ्वी का अध्ययन कर सकेगा, जबकि ऑप्टिकल दूरसंवेदी उपग्रह सूर्यकिरणों पर निर्भर रहते थे।
इससे भेजी गई तस्वीरें कृषि और आपदा प्रबंधन के लिए बहुत उपयोगी होंगी।

राष्ट्रपति पद के उम्मीदवार के नाम पर आम सहमति बनाने के वास्ते यूपीए में शामिल पार्टियों के साथ बातचीत के सिलसिले में आज कांग्रेस नेता और रक्षा मंत्री ए के एंटनी चेन्नई में डीएमके प्रमुख एम करूणानिधि से मिले। वर्तमान राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटील का कार्यकाल २५ जुलाई को समाप्त हो रहा है। एक घंटे से अधिक की बैठक के बाद श्री एंटनी ने पत्रकारों को बताया कि वे डीएमके नेता की राय से कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी को अवगत कराएंगे।
श्री एंटनी की श्री करूणानिधि से मुलाकात से कुछ दिन पहले कृषि मंत्री और राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी के नेता शरद पवार कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष से मिले थे। समझा जाता है कि उन्होंने आम सहमति वाला उम्मीदवार चुनने का आग्रह किया था।

राष्ट्रपति श्रीमती प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील सेशेल्स और दक्षिण अफ्रीका की ९ दिन की यात्रा पर आज सुबह विक्टोरिया रवाना हो गई हैं। वे दोनों देशों के राष्ट्रपतियों के साथ द्विपक्षीय, क्षेत्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्दों पर चर्चा करेंगी। यात्रा के पहले चरण में राष्ट्रपति आज दोपहर बाद सेशल्स की राजधानी विक्टोरिया पहुंचेंगी। राष्ट्रपति के साथ जा रहे हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि दोनों देशों के साथ आपसी व्यापार संबंधों को मजबूत बनाने पर प्रमुख रूप से चर्चा की जाएगी।

भारत और सेशेल्स के व्यापार संबंधों में अब भी बहुत संभावनाएं हैं। वर्ष २०१०-११ में दोनों के बीच चार करोड़ चार लाख अमरीकी डॉलर का कारोबार हुआ। भारत ने सेशेल्स को तीन करोड़ ११ लाख डॉलर का निर्यात किया, जबकि ९२ लाख डॉलर का आयात हुआ। सेशेल्स के साथ जिन क्षेत्रों में व्यापार बढ़ाने की संभावनाएं हैं उनमें पर्यटन, स्वास्थ्य, सूचना और संचार टेक्नोलॉजी, खाद्य प्रसंस्करण, वित्तीय सेवाएं, अक्षय ऊर्जा, इंजीनियरिंग, बिजली का साजो-सामान और कपड़े शामिल हैं। सेशेल्स, छोटे-छोटे द्वीपों का समूह है, इसलिए वहां मछली पकड़ने और उससे जुड़े उद्योगों की काफी संभावनाएं हैं। दक्षिण अफ्रीका के साथ वर्ष-२०१०-११ में भारत का कुल ११ अरब  १२ करोड़ अमरीकी डॉलर का कारोबार हुआ, जिसमें सात अरब १४ करोड़ डॉलर का आयात और तीन अरब ९८ करोड़ डॉलर का निर्यात शामिल है। दो वर्ष पूर्व राष्ट्रपति जैकब जूमा की भारत यात्रा के दौरान वर्ष २०१२ तक १० अरब डॉलर के आपसी व्यापार का लक्ष्य रखा गया था।  यह लक्ष्य पहले ही हासिल कर लिया गया है और अब २०१५ तक १५ अरब डॉलर का नया लक्ष्य तय किया गया है। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए मणिकांत ठाकुर के साथ मैं तौहीद खान।

अमरीका में भारत की राजदूत निरूपमा राव ने अमरीकी छात्रों को संरक्षणवाद के प्रति सतर्क रहने को कहा है, क्योंकि यह आर्थिक उन्नति और विकास में बाधक है। फ्लोरिडा विश्वविद्यालय में छात्रों को सम्बोधित करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि वैश्वीकरण के इस दौर में देश की सीमाएं ज्यादा मायने नहीं रखती, क्योंकि व्यापार, वाणिज्य और आवाजाही में कोई बाधा नही रह गई है। सुश्री राव ने कहा कि ऐसी स्थिति में संरक्षणकारी पहल से आर्थिक उन्नति और विकास बाधित होगा, क्योंकि इससे वस्तुओं,सेवाओं, विचारों, प्रौद्योगिकियों की उपलब्धता कम होती है और लोगों की आवाजाही भी बाधित होती है। सुश्री राव ने आशा व्यक्त की कि अमरीकी छात्र भारत और अमरीका के संबंध और बेहतर करने में मददगार हो सकते हैं।

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय परमाणु ऊर्जा एजेंसी ने पुष्टि की है कि ईरान के विवादास्पद परमाणु कार्यक्रम के बारे में वार्ता वियना में १४ और १५ मई को कराई जाएगी। एजेंसी के प्रवक्ता गिल ट्यूडर ने कहा कि इसका उद्देश्य इस वर्ष शुरू हुई बातचीत को आगे बढ़ाना है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय परमाणु ऊर्जा एजेंसी की फरवरी में जारी रिपोर्ट में कहा गया था कि एजेंसी को ईरान के परमाणु कार्यक्रम के संभावित सैन्य पहलू के बारे में गंभीर चिंताए हैं। वार्ता के दौरान ईरान की परमाणु गतिविधियों की जांच का तकनीकी दायरा बढ़ाने पर मुख्य रूप से चर्चा होगी।

सऊदी अरब ने मानवीय आधार पर अलकायदा नेता ओसामा बिन लादेन के परिवार को देश में रहने की अनुमति दे दी है। सऊदी प्रेस एजेंसी ने एक अधिकारी के हवाले से बताया कि सऊदी अरब में रह रहे परिवार वालों के अनुरोध पर इन लोगों की यात्रा के प्रबंध किए गए हैं। हालांकि खबर में यह नहीं बताया गया है कि बिन लादेन के परिवार के कितने सदस्य जेद्दाह पहुंच चुके हैं, लेकिन इससे पहले की खबरों के अनुसार उसकी तीन पत्नियों, सात बच्चों और चार नाती-पोतों को पाकिस्तान से निकाल दिया गया है। एबटाबाद में अमरीकी कमांडो हमले के बाद से ये पाकिस्तानी सुरक्षा बलों की हिरासत में थे।

लद्दाख रीजन में आज सुबह कई जगहों पर बर्फबारी हुई है। मौसम विभाग के मुताबिक ये बर्फबारी पांच से आठ मिलीमीटर तक रिकॉर्ड की गई और संभावना जताई गई है कि अगले ४८ घंटे तक आकाश में बादल छाये रहेंगे और कहीं कहीं हल्की बर्फबारी भी हो सकती है। आज बर्फबारी की वजह से सुबह की दो फ्लाइट्स  रद्द कर दीं गई जिससे मुसाफिरो ंको काफी परेशानियों का सामना करना पड़ा। हालांकि इसकी वजह से किसानों, पर्यटक काफी खुश नजर आ रहे हैं। खेतों में पानी की कमी की पूर्ति हो गई है वहीं सैलानी इसका लुफ्त उठाते खूब देखे गये। लेह से यांचन के साथ दिवाकर कुमार आकाशवाणी के लिए।

Concerned over poor telephone connectivity in remote Naxal-affected areas, the government is planning to install 2,200 mobile towers in nine Maoist-hit states by the end of this year. Following a request by the Home Ministry, the Department of Telecommunication has roped in the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited to carry out the ambitious project to strengthen the mobile telephone network by setting up the towers in remote inaccessible areas where Maoists have a strong presence. Official sources said, the towers will be set up in consultations with the state governments near establishments of security forces, police stations or other secured locations as the Naxals have often been targeting such towers in the past.
The proposal will be submitted before the Union Cabinet soon and once it gets approval, work will start immediately. They said, the states that will benefit from the project include Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal and Maharashtra.

Both the Maoists’ negotiators, B.D.Sharma and Prof. Hargopal who had been to the jungles of south Bastar in Chhattisgarh, returned to Chintalnar today. They are likely to airdash to capital Raipur today itself. Talking to media at Chintalnar, they disclosed that the Collector Alex Paul Menon is safe in naxal captivity.
They however refused to divulge any further details about their talks with the Maoist leaders. They said, the matter will first be discussed with the government mediators, Nirmala Buch and S.K.Mishra in Raipur. After having two rounds of negotiations with the government mediators, both of them had travelled to the jungles beyond Tadmetla in the Sukma district yesterday to hold discussion with the Maoist leaders for the safe release of Mr. Menon.

Congress leader and Defence Minister A K Antony  met DMK Chief M Karunanidhi in Chennai today as part of consultation process among UPA allies on the Presidential election to arrive at a consensus leader to succeed incumbent Pratibha Patil, who is retiring on July 25. After more than an hour-long meeting, Antony told reporters that he would convey the DMK leader's views on the issue to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Antony's meeting with Karunanidhi comes close on the heels of Agriculture Minister and NCP leader Sharad Pawar's consultation with the Congress President a few days ago. Pawar was understood to have urged the Congress chief on the need for a consensus on the choice.

Congress has identified price rise, lack of intensity in campaigning and failure to highlight the misdeeds of BJP-ruled MCD in the National Capital as major reasons for the defeat of party in the civic body polls. Talking to reporters after a meeting to analyse the poll outcome, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the meeting reviewed the reasons for the defeat and corrective measures to be taken based on the feedback given by party MLAs and Ministers. The indigenously built Radar Imaging Satellite, RISAT-1, launched on April 26, has been placed in its final Polar Sun-synchronous Orbit.  In a statement, ISRO said, as planned, on April 27-28, the satellite propulsion system was used in four orbital maneuvers to raise the height of the orbit of RISAT-1 to 536 km. The satellite is now in its final orbital configuration and in good health.
In the coming days, various elements of the C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar will be tested and calibrated as a prelude to payload operations. The statement said, as compared to the optical remote sensing satellites that depend upon sunlight, the Synthetic Aperture Radar of RISAT-1 transmits its own radar pulses  to study the objects on Earth. This facilitates cloud penetration and imaging even without sunlight. Images sent by the 1,858 kg RISAT-1 will facilitate agriculture and disaster management.

She will discuss issues of bilateral, regional and International concerns with her counterparts in the two countries. Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba is arriving at New Delhi this evening on an official visit to India. During his two-day visit, Mr. Gemba will co-chair the 6th annual India-Japan Strategic Dialogue and the first India-Japan Ministerial-level Economic Dialogue with the External Affairs Minister S M Krishna. In Uttar Pradesh, at least 20 people were killed and several injured in a major road accident in Gorakhpur district this afternoon.    District police chief Ashutosh Kumar told our Lucknow correspondent that the mishap took place when two buses coming from opposite direction, collided head on in Chiluatal area of the district. He said, the injured have been rushed to BRD medical college hospital for treatment.
The District police chief said, the death toll may increase as the condition of some of the injured is stated to be serious. He said that the ill fated UP State Roadways Transport Corporation bus was going to Sonauli. The other vehicle which was a private bus, was going to Gorakhpur. Mr. Kumar said, most of the victims were travelling in the private bus. Senior police and administrative officers have reached the spot to oversee relief and rescue operations.

In Assam, joint operations by police and Central Forces are on in the bordering areas in and around Guwahati city to capture outlawed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) ultras. The operation has been intensified following reports that several top cadres of the banned outfit are taking shelter in Assam-Meghalaya boundary around the Guwahati city.
Police suspect the militants might have migrated to the Guwahati area following large-scale operation launched against the militant group in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills region. The security forces comprising Assam police, Meghalaya police and CRPF personnel arrested four GNLA cadres from Garchuk area of the Guwahati city yesterday. One AK-56 rifle, one HK rifle, live ammunition and incriminating documents were recovered from the militants’ possession.

The Centre has allotted 300 crore rupees for implementation of a special project under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana aimed at ensuring nutritional security to people, particularly the economically weaker sections, by promoting intensive millets production and improving the post harvest technologies in millets covering jowar, bajra, ragi, korra and samai.
Under the special project, ragi and samai cultivation has been intensified in 17 village clusters spread over 10 agency mandals of Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh. A report from our correspondent:
"During the just concluded financial year Cultivation of ragi in 2500 hectares and samai in 2400 hectares has been taken up under special millets production project aimed at encouraging the general public, particularly economically poorer sections to consume nutritional food. This has got a big boost in the district as they have the potential to improve nutrition, boost food security, foster rural development, and support sustainable land care. Millets are unique due to their short growing season and mature early. When stored properly they can be preserved for more than two years. Indian Rail, Catering and Tourism Corporation, IRCTC, will launch a new web portal from next week for providing air tickets online. The passengers can log on to the website www. air.irctc.co.in. to book their tickets. Informing this in New Delhi, IRCTC spokesperson Pradip Kundu said the corporation has tied up with domestic airlines companies in this regard and the service will only be available for domestic airlines.
He said the IRCTC will not levy service charge on tickets and cancellations charge will also be nominal. Mr. Kundu said the corporation is also in touch with some banks to introduce cash back offers for those using their credit cards for tickets. The International Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed that the talks on Teheran’s controversial nuclear program will be held on May 14 and 15 in Vienna. The IAEA Spokesperson Gill Tudor said the purpose of the talks is to continue the negotiations which began this year. An IAEA report had in February said that it continues to have serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program. The focus in IAEA-Iran discussions would be on how to expand technically the inspection of Tehran's nuclear activities.

India's Ambassador to the United States Nirupama Rao has asked American students to be alert to the stifling effects of protectionism as it is retrogressive and hinders economic growth and development in the age of globalisation. Malaysian police today said all 471 people, including a senior opposition lawmaker, arrested during a demonstration for free and fair elections, have been freed. National police spokesman Ramli Yoosuf said all of them have been released, adding that the MP had been identified as Tian Chua from Anwar Ibrahim's Keadilan party.
He said security forces would decide later whether to file charges against the demonstrators. Saudi Arabia has allowed the family of slain Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden into the kingdom on humanitarian grounds. The world’s largest mural painting of its kind ,the ”Caravan of Women” by Lebanese artist Souheil Madi was unveiled in Dubai yesterday. The football field size painting on the Gloria Hotel in Dubai can be seen from high altitudes and helicopters. UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan dedicated the painting to the aspirations of the Emirati people. More from our West Asia Correspondent;
"Imagine a giant flat 3 D painting of the size of a football field which can give you an aerial view as well. One can see it even from an aero plane or a helicopter. The painting spread over a space of nearly 1700 square kilometers is the creation of Lebanese artist Souheil Madi. The mural, “Caravan of Women” depicts the camel caravans that used to pass through the Arabian desert with women on board. Madi said the painting is a tribute to honour mothers, daughters, wives and sisters. He used a simple paintbrush to complete the painting replete with images showcasing the realities of the Arabian desert. Madi said he took 100 hours to complete the painting with the help of an associate working on the eighth floor of the Gloria Hotel in Dubai. Residents of a London apartment block have been told that surface-to-air missiles are likely to be installed on the building to help combat airborne terror threats to the Olympic Games. According to a leaflet distributed to residents, a high-velocity missile system may be situated on the roof and 10 soldiers stationed in the building for two months for the Games, which start on July 27.
It  said the building was chosen because of its excellent view of the surrounding area and the entire sky above the Olympic Park. The leaflet assured residents that the missiles would be used only in the event of specific orders from the highest levels of government in response to a confirmed and extreme security threat.

India's Aditya Mehta today stunned compatriot Pankaj Advani to become only the third Indian ever to clinch the Asian Snooker Championships in Doha. In his third appearance at the event, Aditya started off a bit nervous but won a crucial second frame with a 49 clearance, after being 40 down. सरकार चालू वित्त वर्ष के लिए विनिवेश कार्यक्रम की शुरूआत जून से करेगी। इसके तहत राष्ट्रीय इस्पात निगम लिमिटेड का आईपीओ लाया जा सकता है, जिसके तहत २५०० करोड़ रुपये जुटाए जाएंगे। विनिवेश सचिव मोहम्मद हलीम खान ने पीटीआई को बताया कि वे मई के पहले दो हतों में राष्ट्रीय इस्पात निगम लिमिटेड के दस प्रतिशत हिस्से के लिए जरूरी दस्तावेजों का मसौदा दायर करेंगे। आईपीओ जून के महीने में बाजार में आ जाएगा। इससे पहले आर्थिक मामलों की कैबिनेट समिति ने जनवरी में राष्ट्रीय इस्पात निगम लिमिटेड में दस प्रतिशत विनिवेश को मंजूरी दी थी।

सरकार और माओवादियों के मध्यस्थों के बीच तीसरे दौर की बातचीत आज रायपुर में संपन्न हो गई। बातचीत का ब्यौरा अभी नहीं मिला है। मीडिया के साथ बातचीत में सरकार की मध्यस्थ श्रीमती निर्मला बुच ने बताया कि माओवादियों के मध्यस्थ ने नक्सलवादी नेताओं के साथ हुई बातचीत का ब्यौरा दे दिया है, जिसके बारे में राज्य सरकार को बताया जाएगा। बातचीत के कल भी जारी रहने की संभावना है।

उत्तर प्रदेश में मंडल आयुक्त ने गोरखपुर में हुई दुर्घटना की मजिस्ट्रेट से जांच के आदेश दिये हैं। राज्य सरकार तथा उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य परिवहन निगम दोनों के प्रबंधन ने सड़क दुर्घटना में मारे गए लोगों के परिजनों और घायलों के लिए आर्थिक सहायता की घोषणा की है।
हमारे लखनऊ संवाददाता ने बताया है कि मुख्यमंत्री ने दुर्घटना में मारे गए लोगों के परिजनों के लिए एक-एक लाख रुपये तथा गंभीर रूप से घायलों को २५-२५ हजार रुपये और सामान्य घायलों के लिए दस-दस हजार रुपये आर्थिक मदद की घोषणा की है। राज्य परिवहन निगम प्रबंधन ने भी प्रत्येक मृतक के परिजनों को पचास-पचास हजार रुपये गंभीर रूप से घायल को दस-दस हजार रुपये और सामान्य घायल के लिए पांच-पांच हजार रुपये देने की घोषणा की है।
इस बीच, गोरखपुर में हुई इस सड़क दुर्घटना में ५ और घायलों की मृत्यु होने से मृतकों की संख्या २३ हो गई है। पच्चीस घायलों को बीआरडी मेडिकल कॉलेज अस्पताल में इलाज चल रहा है।
आज दोपहर सोनाली जा रही राज्य परिवहन की बस की मनिराम पुल के पास एक निजी बस से जबरदस्त टक्कर हो गई थी। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि इस दुर्घटना में १५ यात्रियों की मौके पर ही जान चली गई थी।

दुर्घटना निजी बस का स्टेयरिंग फेल हो जाने के कारण हुई। ड्राइवर बस से अपना नियंत्रण खो बैठा और वह पुल की रैलिंग से टकराकर पलट गई, इतने में विपरीत दिशा से आई रही रोडवेज की बस से टकरा जाने के कारण बस में फंसे यात्रियों को घातक चोंटे आई, दो दर्जन से ज्यादा घायलों का अभी भी मेडिकल कॉलेज अस्पताल में इलाज चल रहा है जबकि तीन महीनों और तीन बच्चों समेत १८ मतकों के शव पोस्टमास्टम के लिए भेज दिये गये हैं।

पश्चिम बंगाल में हावड़ा जिले के उदयनारायणपुर में आज तीसरे पहर बिजली गिरने से नौ लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई। सरकारी सूत्रों के अनुसार १६ अन्य  घायल लोगों को स्थानीय अस्पतालों में भर्ती कराया गया है जिनमें से छह की हालत गंभीर बताई जाती है।

श्रीमती पाटील सेशल्स और दक्षिण अफ्रीका के दौरे के प्रथम चरण में आज सेशल्स पहुंच गई हैं।
सेशल्स में श्रीमती पाटील राष्ट्रपति जेम्स एलिक्स माइकल के साथ बैठक करेंगी, जिसमें आपसी संबंधों और क्षेत्रीय तथा अंतरराष्ट्रीय मुद्दों के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर चर्चा किए जाने की संभावना है। कल नेशनल असेंबली के विशेष अधिवेशन में राष्ट्रपति का भाषण इस यात्रा की महत्वपूर्ण बात होगी।
दक्षिण अफ्रीका के बारे में श्रीमती पाटील ने कहा कि दक्षिण अफ्रीका की उनकी यात्रा सहयोग को मजबूत करने और विशेष संबंधों को पुष्ट करने का एक मौका है।
श्रीमती पाटील ने कहा कि विकासशील विश्व में दक्षिण अफ्रीका भारत का घनिष्ठ सामरिक भागीदार है। दोनों देश संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद, जी-२०, इब्सा, ब्रिक्स, आई.ओ.आर.-ए.आर.सी. और अन्य कई अंतरराष्ट्रीय मंचों पर मिलकर काम कर रहे हैं। श्रीमती पाटील ने जोरदार शब्दों में कहा कि सेशल्स और दक्षिण अफ्रीका जैसे मित्र देशों की उनकी यात्रा अफ्रीका में भारत के संबंधों को मजबूत करने के उसके प्रयासों का एक हिस्सा है।

जापान के विदेश मंत्री कोईचिरो गेम्बा भारत की सरकारी यात्रा पर आज शाम नई दिल्ली पहुंचे। अपने दो दिन के प्रवास के दौरान श्री गेम्बा छठी वार्षिक भारत-जापान सामरिक वार्ता की सह-अध्यक्षता करेंगे। वे विदेश मंत्री एस.एम. कृष्णा के साथ पहली भारत-जापान मंत्री स्तरीय आर्थिक वार्ता भी करेंगे। सामरिक बातचीत में दोनों पक्ष आपसी हित और वैश्विक साझेदारी के सभी पहलुओं की समीक्षा करेंगे तथा क्षेत्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय महत्व के आपसी मुद्दों पर विचार करेंगे।

देश में ही निर्मित हल्का लड़ाकू विमान एलसीए तेजस को इस वर्ष भारतीय वायु सेना में शामिल कर लिया जाएगा। रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन डीआरडीओ के अध्यक्ष वी.के. सास्वत ने हैदराबाद में एरोनॉटिकल सोसायटी ऑफ इंडिया के एक समारोह के उद्घाटन के बाद यह जानकारी दी। उन्होंने बताया कि तेजस एक हजार ८५५ घंटे की उड़ान पूरी कर चुका है और अब अंतिम दौर की कार्रवाई की मंजूरी के लिए तैयार है।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने कहा है कि किसी केयरटेकर या एजेंट के पास कोई जमीन अगर काफी लंबे समय तक रहती है तो इसका मतलब यह नहीं कि वह उस संपत्ति का मालिक हो जाता है। न्यायमूर्ति दलवीर भंडारी और न्यायमूर्ति दीपक मिश्रा की खंडपीठ ने कहा है कि चौकीदार, केयरटेकर या संपत्ति की देखभाल के लिए रखे गए किसी नौकर को उस संपत्ति का अधिकार नहीं मिल जाता, चाहे वह उसके पास काफी लंबे समय से हो।

असम में सुरक्षा बलों ने कामरूप जिले के सीमावर्ती इलाके में दूरदराज के एक गांव में  आज तड़के भारी मात्रा में देसी बम बरामद किए हैं। ये विस्फोटक सेना और असम पुलिस की संयुक्त कार्रवाई के दौरान बरामद किए गए। पुलिस के अनुसार सुरक्षाबलों ने सुराग मिलने पर  पांच किलो देसी बम बरामद किये।

गुजरात में ७२ भारतीय मछुआरे अपनी एक नौका के साथ आज पोरबंदर तट पर पहुंच गए। इन्हें भारतीय तटरक्षक दल के हस्तक्षेप के बाद पाकिस्तान के समुद्री सुरक्षागार्डों ने छोड़ दिया था। पाकिस्तान ने अरब सागर में बृहस्पतिवार को जख़ाऊ तट के पास चौदह नौकाओं के साथ ८५ भारतीय मछुआरों को पकड़ लिया था। बाकी तेरह मछुआरे और तेरह नौकाएं अभी तक नहीं छोड़ी गई हैं। ज्यादातर मछुआरे जूनागढ़ जिले के उना ताल्लुका से हैं।

अफगानिस्तान के विदेष मंत्री डॉ. जलमई रसूल भारत की दो दिन की सरकारी यात्रा पर कल काबुल से दिल्ली रवाना हो रहे हैं। अफगानिस्तान के विदेष मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता ने आज काबुल में संवाददताओं को बताया कि डॉ. रसूल अपनी यात्रा के दौरान भारत-अफगानिस्तान साझेदारी परिषद की पहली बैठक में हिस्सा लेंगे जिसकी अध्यक्षता दोनों देषों के विदेषमंत्री संयुक्त रूप से करेंगे। परिषद का गठन पिछले साल अफगान राष्ट्रपति हामिद करज+ई की भारत यात्रा के दौरान दोनों देषों के बीच हुए ऐतिहासिक सामरिक साझेदारी समझौते के तहत किया गया था। डॉ. रसूल प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह, वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार से मुलाकात करेंगे।

पाकिस्तान की एक अदालत में दो याचिकाएं दाखिल कर अदालत की अवमानना के लिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा दोषी ठहराए जाने पर प्रधानमंत्री यूसुफ रजा गिलानी के पद पर बने रहने को चुनौती दी गई है। लाहौर उच्च न्यायालय में कल दाखिल याचिकाओं में श्री गिलानी को यह स्पष्ट करने को कहा गया है कि वह खुद को दोषी करार दिए जाने के बाद किस कानून के तहत इस पद पर बने रहने का दावा करते हैं। याचिकाकर्ता के वकील ने कहा है कि उच्चतम न्यायालय ने राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी के खिलाफ भ्रष्टाचार के मामलों को फिर से खोलने में नाकाम रहने पर गिलानी को दोषी ठहराया और सजा सुनाई।

पाकिस्तान के गृहमंत्री रहमान मलिक ने पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री और विपक्षी नेता नवाज शरीफ और उनके परिवार पर तीन दशमलव दो करोड़ डालर के वित्तीय घोटाले का आरोप लगाया है। गृहमंत्री ने एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन को बताया कि वे इस बारे में अगले सप्ताह नेशनल अकाउण्टेबिलिटी ब्यूरो को लिखित जानकारी देंगे और यदि मांग की गई तो न्यायालय में दस्तावेज पेश करेंगें।

नाइजीरिया में देश के उत्तरी भाग के कानो शहर में आज आतंकवादियों ने एक विश्वविद्यालय परिसर पर जबरदस्त हमला किया, जिसमें कम से कम २० लोग मारे गए। पुलिस प्रवक्ता के अनुसार बयेरो विश्वविद्यालय के दो केंद्रों को मुख्य रूप से निशाना बनाया गया, जहां इसाई लोग प्रार्थना सभा कर रहे थे।

The government will kick start its disinvestment programme for the current fiscal from June with stake sale in steel major Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd through an initial public offering that could fetch about 2,500 crore rupees to the exchequer. Disinvestment Secretary Mohammad Haleem Khan told PTI, that they would be filing the draft papers for 10 per cent stake sale in RINL in the first two weeks of May. The IPO will hit the market in June. Earlier in January, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had approved 10 per cent disinvestment in RINL.

The 3rd round of negotiation between the government and Maoist  mediators has just finished in Raipur. However, the details of the meeting were not revealed. In a brief interaction with the media, the government negotiator Mrs. Nirmala Buch stated that the Moist  mediators have briefed about their talks with the ultra  leaders which the state government will be apprised of. The negotiations are likely to continue tomorrow.
Earlier, the maoists’ negotiators flew back to Raipur this afternoon from Chintalnar in Sukma district after their discussion with naxal leaders in the jungles beyond Tadmetla. The negotiators said that  the collector is safe.

In West Bengal, 9 people were killed in lightening at Udaynarayanpur in Howrah district this afternoon. According to  official sources 16 others who were injured in the mishap have been admitted in a local hospital. Condition of six is stated to be critical.
The West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamata Banerjee announced the compensation of 2 lakh rupees each to the family of the victims.

In Uttar Pradesh, the divisional commissioner has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the road accident in Gorakhpur. The Chief Minister has announced financial assistance of one lakh rupees to the kith and kin of each killed in the accident while 25 thousand rupees will be given to the passengers injured seriously and 10 thousand rupees for minor injuries.
The UPSRTC management has also announced to provide financial assistance of 50 thousand rupees to the relatives of each passenger killed in the accident and 10 thousand rupees for the passengers injured seriously and 5 thousand rupees for minor injuries. Our Correspondent reports that the death toll in the accident has risen to 23 as 8 more injured succumbed in BRD Medical College Hospital.
The accident took place when the driver of ill-fated private bus lost his control over the steering and overturned. The situation worsened when a roadways bus coming from the opposite direction rammed into it. Over two dozen injured passengers are being treated at BRD Medical college hospital while the bodies of 18 dead including three women and three children have been sent for postmortem. The Supreme Court has ruled that long term possession of land by caretakers or agents does not give them the right of ownership of the property.
A bench of Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Dipak Misra said that   watchman, caretaker or a servant employed to look after the property can never acquire interest in the property  irrespective of his long possession. The watchman, caretaker or a servant is under an obligation to hand over the possession forthwith on demand .
The bench dismissed the plea of a watchman claiming ownership of a plot on the basis that his family was taking care of property for two generations.

Indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft, LCA 'Tejas  will be inducted into the Indian Air Force this year. The Defence Research and Development Organisation Chief Dr.V K Saraswat  said this after inaugurating a function of Aeronautical Society of India in Hydrabad. He said after completing almost 1,855 flying hours the LCA  is ready to enter into the final operational clearance phase.  
The LCA has been conceived and designed by DRDO's Aeronautical Development Agency and manufactured at Bangalore- based Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, HAL.

In Assam, the Security forces recovered a huge quantity of IED from a remote village in the border area of Kamrup district in the wee hours today. The explosive was recovered in a joint operation by Indian Army and Assam Police. According to police, the security forces recovered five kgs of IED on a tip off. The explosive could have been carried to Guwahati to trigger blasts. The police said the explosive were defused in the army camp later.

India has said that it is committed to working closely with Seychelles to ensure the safety and security of the Indian Ocean region and to combat piracy and terrorism. Talking to newsmen on board the special aircraft to Seychelles, the President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil today said that Seychelles and India share the waters of the Indian Ocean which is a strong bond between the two countries.
India-Seychelles relations have been characterized by close friendship, understanding and cooperation.  Our diplomatic ties were established with Seychelles at its independence in 1976.  Since then our engagement with Seychelles has been constant and regular.
Mrs. Patil said that both the countries are determined to working together to ensure a secure environment for the mutual benefit of their peoples. She reached Seychelles in the first leg of her two nation tour to Sychelles and South Africa. A highlight of the Seychelles visit is that the President will address the Special Session of the National Assembly tomorrow.
Talking about her visit to South Africa, Mrs. Patil said that India has deep rooted historical ties with this country and shares a truly strategic and multi-faceted relationship. She said, her visit to South Africa is an opportunity to strengthen the framework of co-operation and to reaffirm unique relationship.

In Gujarat, 72 Indian fishermen with one fishing boat- have reached Porbandar Coast today after they were released by Pakistan Marine Security following intervention of Indian Coast Guard.  Pakistan Marine Security had abducted 85 Indian fishermen along with 14 fishing boats on Thursday off Jakhau coast in the Arabian Sea. 13 fishermen with 13 boats are still to be freed. Most of the fishermen hail from  Una taluka in Junagadh district.

Two petitions have been filed in a Pakistani court asking it to restrain Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani from holding office in the wake of his conviction for contempt by the Supreme Court. The petitions filed in the Lahore High Court yesterday asked it to direct Gilani to explain under which law he was claiming to be the chief executive of the country after his conviction. The petitioners' lawyer said the apex court had convicted and sentenced Gilani for failing to reopen corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Nepal’s Chief of Army, General Chhatraman Singh Gurung has said that restructuring of the army has become necessary as it’s current structure is out-dated. Appearing before the Parliament’s State Affairs Committee in Kathmandu today, the Army Chief said the institutional structure of the Nepal army has not been reviewed since 1965 and hence is out dated. Army Chief General Chhatraman Singh Gurung said the strength of the army which stood at 18000 in four decades back has now risen to 90000 . He said a new working plan has been proposed and send to the Ministry as the organizational structure of the Army was too old , irrelevant and incompatible .The new plan is with the vision to make the Nepal Army in line with the other armies of other developed countries. He proposed for increasing existing two posts of Lieutenant general to four and current eighteen posts of major- generals to twenty-four. Japanese Foreign Minister  Koichiro Gemba arrived in New Delhi this evening on an official visit to India. During his two-day visit, Mr. Gemba will co-chair the 6th annual India-Japan Strategic Dialogue and the first India-Japan ministerial-level Economic Dialogue with External Affairs Minister S M Krishna. In the Strategic Dialogue, the two sides will review all aspects of bilateral  and global partnership and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest. Our correspondent reports, several senior ministers and officials from both India and Japan will participate in the ministerial-level Economic Dialogue, which was agreed to by the Prime Ministers of both the countries.

The Afghan Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul will arrive in New Delhi tomorrow on a two day official visit to India. A spokesman of Afghan Foreign Affairs Ministry told reporters in Kabul today that he would take part in the inaugural meeting of the India-Afghanistan Partnership Council which will be jointly presided over by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries.
The Partnership Council was constituted under the historic Indo-Afghan Strategic Partnership Agreement signed by the two countries during the visit of Afghan President Hamid Karzai to India in October last year.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is making a landmark visit to Myanmar to meet Aung San Suu Kyi and press the Government for more democratic reforms.
