उत्तराखण्ड में नया मुख्यमंत्री चुनने के लिए कांग्रेस विधायक दल की बैठक देहरादून में चल रही है। बैठक में सभी कांग्रेसी विधायक उपस्थित हैं। केन्द्रीय प्रेक्षक के रूप में अम्बिका सोनी, जर्नादन द्विवेद्वी और गुलाम नबी आजाद भी मौजूद हैं। माना जा रहा है कि केन्द्रीय मंत्री हरीश रावत के नाम को नए मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में मंजूरी दे दी जाएगी। उसके फौरन बाद नए मुख्यमंत्री को राजभवन में शपथ दिलायी जाएगी।
श्री हरीश रावत आज सवेरे नई दिल्ली से देहरादून पहुंचे। कांग्रेस विधायक दल की बैठक सुचारू रूप से चलना सुनिश्चित करने के लिए उन्होंने राज्य के कार्यवाहक पार्टी अध्यक्ष यशपाल आर्य और पौड़ी गढ़वाल से सांसद सतपाल महाराज से मुलाकात की।

दिल्ली में अरूणाचल प्रदेश के एक छात्र की मृत्यु की घटना के बारे में दिल्ली पुलिस अपनी विस्तृत रिपोर्ट आज गृह मंत्रालय को सौंपेगी। बताया जा रहा है कि दिल्ली के लाजपतनगर इलाके में बृहस्पतिवार को कुछ दुकानदारों के साथ कहासुनी के बाद इस छात्र, नीडो तानिया की पीट कर हत्या कर दी गयी थी। दक्षिण-पूर्व दिल्ली के पुलिस उपायुक्त पी करूणाकरन ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि रिपोर्ट तीसरे पहर तीन बजे तक सौंपे जाने की उम्मीद है। उन्होंने कहा कि पुलिस ने लाजपत नगर थाने में हत्या का मामला दर्ज कर लिया है और अब तक पूछताछ के लिए तीन लोगों को हिरासत में ले लिया है। दिल्ली सरकार ने कल इस मामले की मजिस्ट्रेट से जांच कराने के आदेश दिए हैं।
हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि दिल्ली में रह रहे पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र के लोगों में इस घटना को लेकर रोष है। उनके प्रतिनिधियों ने घटनास्थल पर विरोध प्रदर्शन किया और दोषियों के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की मांग की।

उधर, अरुणाचल प्रदेश की राजधानी ईटानगर में बड़ी संख्या में विद्यार्थियों और लोगों ने इस घटना के विरोध में आज रैली निकाली। यह रैली आकाशदीप मार्केट से शुरू होकर राजभवन तक गयी जहां प्रदर्शनकारियों ने राज्यपाल निर्भय शर्मा को ज्ञापन सौंपा। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने छात्र निदो तानिया के मारे जाने और दिल्ली में पूर्वोत्तर के छात्रों के खिलाफ हुई अन्य घटनाओं के विरोध में नारे लगाये।
इस बीच, अरुणाचल के विधायक तथा स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण संसदीय सचिव निदो पवित्रा के पुत्र तानिया का शव आज शाम गुवाहाटी से ईटानगर पहुंच रहा है।

असम में कारबी आंगलांग जि+ले में दो अलग अलग घटनाओं में पुलिस ने छह उग्रवादियों को गिरफ्तार किया है। कारबी आंगलांग के पुलिस अधीक्षक मुग्ध ज्योति महन्त ने बताया कि इनमें से चार उग्रवादी नेशनल डेमोक्रेटिक फ्रंट ऑफ बोडोलैंड संघ बिजित गुट के हैं। हमारे संवाददाता के अनुसार इन्हें खटखटी इलाके से गिरफ्तार किया गया।

संग बिजित गुट के चार उग्रवादियों की गिरफ्तारी प्रदेश में सुरक्षाबलों द्वारा किए जा रहे आतंकवाद विरोधी कार्रवाई का परिणाम है। पुलिस अधीक्षक के मुताबिक इनमें से तीन उग्रवादी म्यामां में प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त किया है और हामरन सबडिविजन में हिंसात्मक गतिविधियों में शामिल है। इन उग्रवादियों द्वारा दिए गए जानकारी के आधार पर पुलिस ने हथियार और गोलाबारूद भी बरामद किया। एक दूसरे घटना में दीपू शहर में आज सुबह सुरक्षाबलों ने यूनाइटेड कारबी पीपुल्स फोर्स नाम के एक नए उग्रवादी संगठन के स्वयंभू अध्यक्ष और सेना प्रमुख को गिरफ्तार किया। मानस प्रतिम शर्मा, आकाशवाणी समाचार, गुवहाटी।

महाराष्ट्र में राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा योजना आज से लागू की जा रही है। नवी मुंबई में कृषि मंत्री शरद पवार ने कल इस महत्वपूर्ण योजना की शुरूआत की। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि दिल्ली, हरियाणा, राजस्थान, हिमाचल प्रदेश, पंजाब, छत्तीसगढ़ और कर्नाटक के बाद महाराष्ट्र आठवां राज्य हैं, जो खाद्य सुरक्षा योजना लागू कर रहा है।

योजना के तहत हर लाभार्थी को प्रति महीने पांच किलो का अनाज जैसे-गेंहू, चावल तथा दाल आदि अनुदानित दरों में प्राप्त होने की सुविधा मिलेगी। खाद्य सुरक्षा योजना द्वारा गर्भवती और समापन करने वाली माताओं के लिए अतिरिक्त लाभ मिलेंगे, जिनमें छह हजार रुपये तक का मासिक लाभ शामिल है। इसके अलावा यह योजना पंचायती राज और महिला बचत समूह को सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणाली के निगरानी और योजना का समाजिक अनकेशन जैसे खास अधिकार प्रदान किए गए हैं। राज्यभर में कुल सात करोड़ जनता को इस योजना से लाभ मिलेगा। निवेदिता के साथ अभिषेक कुमार, आकाशवाणी समाचार, मुम्बई।

बिहार में भी राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा योजना आज से शुरू हो गयी है। मुख्यमंत्री नीतिश कुमार ने आज राजधानी पटना में यूपीए सरकार के इस महत्वपूर्ण कार्यक्रम को लागू किया। योजना के बेहतर क्रियान्वयन के लिए एक कॉल सेंटर और सार्वजनिक वितरण तथा आपूर्ति की इलेक्ट्रोनिक प्रबंधन प्रणाली भी शुरू की गयी है। बिहार देश में खाद्य सुरक्षा कानून लागू करने वाला नौवां राज्य है, जहां लगभग आठ करोड़ लोग इस कानून से लाभान्वित होंगे।

दिल्ली में बिजली अधिभार बढ़ाने के निर्णय पर मुख्यमंत्री अरविन्द केजरीवाल ने दिल्ली विद्युत नियामक आयोग पर सवाल उठाया है। बिजली वितरण कंपनियों ने अधिभार बढ़ाने की मांग की थी।
श्री केजरीवाल ने नई दिल्ली में कहा कि अगर ये कंपनियां वित्तीय समस्या का सामना कर रही हैं तो उन्हें नियंत्रक और महालेखा परीक्षक-सीएजी से अपने खातों की जांच का विरोध नहीं करना चाहिए।

इनके अकाउन्ट्स के अंदर बहुत सारे प्रश्न चिन्ह लगे थे। सीएजी का ऑडिट ऑर्डर किया गया है। सीएजी की ऑडिट की रिपोर्ट आ जाए। उनको कॉपरेट करना चाहिए, इससे और एक शक पैदा होता है कि इनके अकाउन्ट्स के अंदर गड़बड़ तो नहीं है, तो सरकार चुप नहीं बैठने वाली। अगर ये ज्यादा वो करेंगे तो लाइसेंस कैंसिल करने में सरकार हिचकिचाएगी नहीं और दूसरी कंपनियां ले आएंगी।
दिल्ली विद्युत नियामक आयोग ने कल राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में बिजली अधिभार आठ प्रतिशत तक बढ़ाने का फैसला किया था। बिजली वितरण की लागत को समायोजित करने के लिए ऐसा किया गया है।
इस बीच, भारतीय जनता पार्टी की दिल्ली इकाई ने बिजली अधिभार बढ़ाने और वितरण कंपनियों द्वारा बिजली कटौती की चेतावनी के विरोध में पूर्वी दिल्ली के कुछ इलाकों में प्रदर्शन किया। पार्टी की दिल्ली इकाई के अध्यक्ष विजय गोयल ने कहा कि आम आदमी पार्टी सरकार बिजली और पानी के दामों में कटौती का अपना वायदा पूरा करने में विफल रही है।

जो सरकार यह कहती थी कि बिजली के दाम पचास प्रतिशत कम कर देगें। पचास प्रतिशत कम करने की जगह अभी बिजली के दाम आठ प्रतिशत और बढ़ गए हैं और पानी के दाम दस प्रतिशत बढ़ गए।
हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि पूर्वी और मध्य दिल्ली में बिजली सप्लाई सामान्य है। बिजली वितरण कंपनियों ने अभी तक बिजली कटौती की कोई सारणी जारी नहीं की है।

यूपीए अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी ने आज कर्नाटक में गुलबर्गा में ईएसआई सुपर स्पेशिएलिटी अस्पताल और मेडिकल कालेज का उद्घाटन किया। इस अवसर पर कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री सिद्धारमय्‌या, केन्द्रीय मंत्री वीरप्पा मोइली, मल्लिकार्जुन खड़गे, ऑस्कर फर्नांडीस, रहमान खान और राज्य के अनेक मंत्री भी उपस्थित थे। पांच सौ बिस्तर वाले इस अस्पताल और एम बी बी एस की सौ सीटों वाले कालेज के निर्माण में आठ सौ तिरानवें करोड़ रूपये की लागत आयी है। इसके साथ नर्सिंग और डेन्टल कालेज भी बनाए गए हैं।
बाद में एक जनसभा में क्षेत्र के विकास कार्यों के लिए अनुच्छेद ३७१ जे-संशोधन लाने के लिए श्रीमती सोनिया गांधी का अभिनन्दन किया गया। इस संशोधन के माध्यम से हैदराबाद- कर्नाटक के पिछड़े इलाके के युवाओं को शिक्षा और नौकरी में आरक्षण उपलब्ध कराया गया है।

देश की पहली मोनोरेल सेवा आज से मुम्बई में शुरू हो रही है। महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री पृथ्वीराज चह्‌वाण लगभग नौ किलोमीटर लम्बे वडाला-चेम्बूर खण्ड पर मुम्बई मोनोरेल के पहले चरण का उद्घाटन करेंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि आम लोगों के लिए ये सेवा कल से शुरू हो जायेगी।

अत्याधुनिक सुविधा से सजे इस वातानुकूलित यातायात सेवा का न्यूनतम टिकट शुल्क रुपया पांच तथा अधिकतम टिकट बीस रुपया रखा गया है। मानो रेल की सुविधा से मुम्बई के नगर वढाला से चैम्बूर के बीच का अंतर बीस मिनट की अवधि में तय किया जाएगा। गुलाबी, हरे और नीले रंगों में बनी इस नयी रेल में सीसीटीवी कैमरा, अंतर्गत संदेश वाहन सेवा और बिजली की बचत करने के यंत्र का समावेश है। निवेदिता के साथ देवप्रिय भट्टाचार्जी, आकाशवाणी समाचार मुम्बई।

पश्चिम बंगाल में सियालदह रेल खण्ड में आज एक लोकल ट्रेन के पटरी से उतर जाने के कारण रेल सेवायें आंशिक रूप से बाधित हुई हैं। रेलवे सूत्रों के अनुसार रानाघाट से सियालदह जाने वाली लोकल ट्रेन की चार बोगियां आज सवेरे पटरी से उतर गईं। किसी के हताहत होने की ख़बर नही है। बोगियों को पटरी से हटाए जाने के प्रयास किये जा रहे हैं।

पाकिस्तान के खैबर पख्तूनख्वा प्रांत के स्वाबी जिले में तलाशी अभियान के दौरान कम से कम चार संदिग्ध आतंकवादी मारे गए और पचास पकडे+ गये हैं। पुलिस और सुरक्षा बलों का अभियान अब भी जारी है। सरकारी सूत्रों ने बताया कि स्वाबी जिले के खानपुर गांव के एक स्कूल में आतंकवादियों के छिपे होने की सूचना मिलने के बाद पुलिस और सुरक्षा बलों ने वहां छापा मारा। दोनों पक्षों के बीच एक घंटे से अधिक समय तक गोलीबारी हुई। सुरक्षा बलों ने बड़ी संख्या में हथियार और गोली-बारूद बरामद किए हैं।

इराक सरकार ने कहा है कि जनवरी में देश में हिंसा भड़कने से एक हजार से अधिक लोग मारे गए हैं। इराक के स्वास्थ्य, गृह तथा रक्षा मंत्रालयों द्वारा तैयार रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि हिंसा के फलस्वरूप एक हजार तेरह लोग मारे गए और दो हजार से अधिक घायल हो गए। इससे पहले, अप्रैल २००८ में एक ही महीने में एक हजार ७३ लोग मारे गए थे। इससे पता चलता है कि देश में सुरक्षा की स्थिति कितनी नाजुक है।

सीरिया मामलों पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र के विशेष दूत लख्दर ब्राहिमी ने कहा है कि दूसरे दौर की वार्ता में सीरिया सरकार और विपक्ष के बीच मतभेद दूर करने के प्रयास जारी रहेंगे। दोनों पक्षों के बीच पहले दौर की आठ दिन की प्रत्यक्ष वार्ता कल जिनेवा में संपन्न हो गई। ब्यौरा हमारे पश्चिम एशिया संवाददाता से -

पिछले तीन साल से जारी इस संघर्ष के बाद सीरिया सरकार और विपक्ष बीच पहली बार जिनेवा में हुई सीधी बातचीत के बाद संयुक्त राष्ट्र के विशेष दूत लख्दर ब्राहिमी ने माना कि दोनों पक्षों के बीच दूरियां काफी हैं। लेकिन साथ ही उन्होंने कहा कि आम सहमति के दस मुद्दों का पता चला है और दोनों पक्ष बातचीत से पीछे नहीं हटे जो एक सार्थक शुरूआत है। ब्राहिमी ने बताया कि सीरियाई विपक्ष दस फरवरी से दूसरे दौर की बातचीत को राजी है। विपक्षी गठबंधन के नेता अहमद जर्बा ने बताया कि वे बातचीत के जरिए पहले सीरिया में अंतरिम सरकार के गठन पर जोर देते रहेंगे। सीरिया सरकार की ओर से विदेशमंत्री वालिद अल मोअल्लम ने कहा कि जिनेवा बैठक का ब्यौरा उनकी टीम राष्ट्रपति असद का सौंपेगी। जिसके बाद यह तय होगा कि विपक्ष के साथ अगली बातचीत कब हो। अतुल तिवारी, आकाशवाणी समाचार, दुबई।

यूके्रन में विपक्ष के वरिष्ठ नेता आरसिनी यात्सेन्युक ने अपने देश में राजनीतिक गतिरोध समाप्त करने के लिए पश्चिमी देशों से और सहयोग मांगा है। द्वितीय विश्वयुद्ध के बाद यूरोपीय देशों को अमरीकी सहायता का जिक्र करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि यूक्रेन को मार्शल लॉ की नहीं बल्कि मार्शल योजना की जरूरत है। जर्मनी में म्यूनिख सुरक्षा सम्मेलन के अवसर पर श्री यात्सेन्युक विदेशी नेताओं से बातचीत कर रहे हैं।

दक्षिण सूडान में संयुक्त राष्ट्र मिशन ने युद्धग्रस्त देश में भारतीय सेना के डॉक्टरों के अभूतपूर्व कार्य की सराहना की है। सरकार और विद्रोही सेनाओं के बीच युद्ध के दौरान भारतीय डॉक्टरों ने सैंकड़ों रोगियों का उपचार किया।

हरियाणा में २८वां अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सूरजकुंड शिल्प मेला आज से फरीदाबाद के सूरजकुंड में शुरू हो गया है। हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री भुपेन्द्र सिंह हुड्डा ने गोवा के मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर पर्रिकर की उपस्थिति में मेले का उद्घाटन किया। एक पखवाड़े का यह मेला इस महीने की १५ तारीख तक चलेगा। विभिन्न राज्यों के शिल्पियों के अलावा २० देशों के कला शिल्पी भी इस महोत्सव में भाग ले रहे हैं। ४० एकड़ के मेला क्षेत्र में ७५० से अधिक स्टॉल बनाये गये हैं। इस वर्ष मेले का विषय है- गोवा।

Union Minister Harish Rawat, expected to become the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, reached Dehradun this morning from New Delhi. Soon after his arrival, Mr Rawat met acting state party chief Yashpal Arya and Pauri Garhwal MP Satpal Maharaj, in a bid to ensure smooth conduct of the Congress Legislative Party meeting. The CLP meeting being held in the presence of central party observers Ambika Soni, Janardan Dwivedi and Ghulam Nabi Azad, is expected to finalise Mr Rawat's name as the new Chief Minister, after which he would take oath at Raj Bhawan.

The Delhi Police will submit a detailed report today to the Home Ministry over the incident leading to the death of an Arunachal Pradesh student in Delhi. Nido Tania, a student, was allegedly beaten to death by some shopkeepers following an altercation at Lajpat Nagar on Thursday.
DCP- South East, P Karunakaran told AIR that the report is likely to be submitted by 3 PM. He said, police has registered murder case at Lajpat Nagar police station and three persons have been detained for interrogation so far. The Delhi Government had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death yesterday.
Our correspondent reports that people from the north eastern region residing in the city are agitated over the incident. Their representatives protested in South Delhi where the incident took place and demanded stern action against the culprits.
In Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar, hundreds of students and members of the civil society today took out a protest rally against the killing of Nido Tania. More from our correspondent:-
The protestors demanded immediate arrest of the persons involved in the incident and fitting punishment to them within the shortest possible time through fast track court. The protesters said such quick action of the Delhi and NCR administrations could earn the trust of the North Easterners who have by and large lost confidence in them. They also urged the state Govt to take up the matter with the Centre and Delhi Govt seriously for prompt delivery of justice so that instances of racial discrimination do not recur in the mainland in future. Family members, hundreds of students and sympathizers are now waiting eagerly with teary eyes at the Naharlagun Helipad for the arrival of the body of Nido Tania who is the lone son of the Arunachal MLA. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has questioned the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission, DERC, for raising the power tariff on the demand of power distribution companies.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi, today Mr Kejriwal said, why are power distribution companies opposed to the CAG audit if they are facing financial difficulties. He said the audit will make it clear where exactly the money received from consumers is going.
There are several question marks in their accounts. We should wait for the CAG report. If they continue in this manner, then the government will not hesitate to cancel their licence, and bring in new companies.
Yesterday, DERC, had decided to increase power tariff in the national capital region by up to eight per cent.
Meanwhile workers of BJP Delhi unit staged protest in some parts of East Delhi against the power hike and power distribution company's threat to resort to load shedding. Party Delhi unit president Vijay Goel said the AAP government has completely failed to fulfill its promises relating to reduction in power and water tariffs.
This government had promised to bring down the electricity rates by fifty per cent. Now instead of bringing down the rates by fifty per cent. The rates have gone up by 8 per cent and water has become costlier by ten per cent.
Our correspondent reports, power supply in east and central Delhi is reported to be normal and the power companies have not issued any power shedding schedule so far.

The National Food Security Scheme which guarantees Right to Food through subsidized food grains, is being implemented in Maharashtra from today. Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar launched the ambitious Scheme in Maharashtra in Navi Mumbai yesterday. Maharashtra is the 8th state in India to implement this scheme after Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka. Details from our Mumbai correspondent:
The National Food Security Act each entitled person will receive 5 kg of food grains per month which includes rice at Rs 3, wheat at Rs 2 or coarse grains at Rs 1. While, the poorest of the poor will continue to get 35 kg food grains per household per month under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana; the scheme has additional advantage for pregnant women and lactating mother, who will get maternity benefit of Rs. 6000. In Bihar also the UPA government's Flagship food guarantee scheme has been formally launched by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today. For the better implementation of the scheme a Call Centre and Electronic Public Distribution Supply Management system have been launched on this occasion. In Assam, security forces have apprehended 6 cadres of militant outfits in two separate incidents in Karbi Anglong district today. Karbi Anglong SP, Mughdya Jyoti Mahanta said 4 cadres of banned outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction) were arrested at Khatkhati area. In another incident, the self-styled Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of United Karbi People’s Force were arrested at Diphu. The police said, three of them had obtained trainings in Myanmar and involved in subversive activities at Hamren sub-division of Karbi Anglong district. On the basis on their information, police also recovered arms and ammunitions. In another incident, the self-styled Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of United Karbi People’s Force were arrested at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district. The arrested leaders of the little known outfit were trying to recruit cadres’ .But the police successfully able to thwart their nefarious designs.

India’s first monorail service is being flagged off today in Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will inaugurate the first phase of Mumbai Monorail comprising the 8.9 km long Wadala-Chembur section. More details from our Mumbai correspondent.
Mumbai is all set to get India’s first monorail service today. With the commercial operations to commence from tomorrow, Mumbai Monorail service will initially operate between 7 am and 3 pm at an interval of 15 minutes. The fully air-conditioned monorail’s minimum fare will be five rupees while maximum fare will be twenty rupees. The first phase, constructed at the cost of Rs. 1,900 crore will have seven stations. The service connecting Mumbai’s central and eastern suburbs is expected to reduce the travel time between Wadala and Chembur from 40 minutes at present to nearly 21 minutes. As MMRADA officials declared mono rail has the glittering features like advanced passenger driven communication, CCTV cameras and it will use regenerative braking system thus enabling about 25% saving in power consumption. In Karnataka, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi inaugurated ESI Super Speciality hospital and Medical college in Gulbarga today. The 500 bed hospital and MBBS college with 100 seats was built at a cost of 893 crore rupees. A nursing and dental college is also attached with the facility. The AICC president thereafter participated in a public rally where she was felicitated for introducing Article 371J amendment to usher in development in the backward regions of Hyderabad - Karnataka region. UN Special envoy on Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi has said efforts are on to bridge the gap between the Syrian Government and the opposition for a second round of talks. The first round of direct talks between the two sides aimed at finding a comprehensive political solution to the crisis in Syria ended after eight days of intense negotiations in Geneva yesterday. After the first round of direct talks in three years between the Syrian Government and the opposition in Geneva, UN Special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi admitted there is a wide gap between the two sides. However, he has found 10 areas of possible common ground and both sides have engaged in talks which is a modest beginning. Brahimi said the opposition has committed to join a second round of talks in Geneva on February 10. Syrian opposition chief Ahmad al-Jarba said his side was committed to more talks and insisted on setting up of a transitional ruling council with full executive powers to run the country. The Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said he would report back to the Syrian President Assad on what took place during the talks. Then it would be decided when to return to Geneva to meet again with the opposition. He also dismissed the opposition's demand for a new governing body to transfer power from President Assad. In Haryana, the 28th International Surjkund crafts Mela started today at Surajkund in Faridabad district. This fortnight long festival of craft will continue till the 15th of this month. Beside craftsmen of Indian states, craftsmen of 20 countries are also participating in this festival. This year Goa is the theme state. In the Mela area of 40 acres more than 750 stalls are being put up by craftsmen. In Puducherry, normal life is partially affected due to the 10 hour Bandh call given by the Pradesh Congress Committee. About 100 youth Congress workers who staged a dharna near the New Bus Stand, Puducherry were arrested. Security has been beefed up and police pickets have been put up at all important junctions. No untoward incident has been reported so far. The bandh has been called to protest against poor maintenance of law and order and to seek the arrest of culprits involved in planting a powerful bomb in a car parked outside Union Minister Mr.V.Narayanasamy's residence on the 29th of January.

A goods train has derailed a few hours ago at Gangaghat near Ranchi railway station. This has affected railway traffic between Ranchi and Muri section. Railway sources told our Ranchi correspondent that routes of five trains arriving Ranchi has been cut short. Meanwhile, the accident relief train has reached the spot and work to clear the track has begun.
