US President Barack Obama has said that the Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who lived in a compound in Abbottabad for six years, had some kind of support infrastructure inside Pakistan.  The United States' charge sheet against five Pakistani nationals responsible for planning and executing Mumbai terror attacks in November 2008 conclusively proves involvement of terrorists based in Pakistan and indicts Pakistani  intelligence agency ISI. Vindicating India's stand, it also nails the denials of Islamabad that Pakistan had no knowledge about the terror attacks. The charge sheet  was filed by the United States in a Chicago trial court regarding conspiracy to bomb public places in India. Those named in the charge sheet are  Sajid Mir alias Sajid Majed, Abu Qahafa, Manzhar Iqbal alias Abu Alqama, Lashkar and Major Iqbal. Our correspondent reports that the charge sheet  makes it   clear that there can not be double standards in dealing with terrorism.

The dossier has made it emphatically clear that  planning, financing and execution of the Mumbai terror attacks was planned in Pakistan. Two senior LeT commanders whose names figure in the charge sheet were responsible for directing ,training and providing  financial and logistic support  for carrying Mumbai attack besides providing finances and other logistical support to David Coleman Hadley for conducting surveillance of the targets . The involvement of Major Iqbal of  ISI, said to be  the brain behind  in planning and executing the terror attack proves the involvement of ISI. Notwithstanding India's commitment to continue dialogue with Pakistan, it is high time for Islamabad, particularly after Osama's killing near Army Military Academy on its soil, to take stern action against the state and non state actors responsible for terrorist activities against India and the world for peace and stability .Vijay Raina,AIR News Delhi

In Andhra Pradesh, polling is progressing peacefully for Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly by-elections in Andhra Pradesh. Heavy turn out of voters has been reported in the first few hours. Over 52% polling was reported when reports last came in. State Chief Electoral officer Bhanwar Lal told our Hyderabad Correspondent that no untoward incident has been reported so far. More from Our Correspondent:

Though Polling began at 8 o clock this morning, Kadapa voters started making serpentine queues before Polling Stations from 6 o clock onwards. The rising temperatures have been one of the reason for them to come for early voting, while the repeated assurances given by the Election Authorities for free and fare poll has also enthused them to arrive at Polling booths in the first hour. Huge forces of over 11,100 central and state armed police personnel besides mobile parties and striking forces are continuously monitoring the law and order situation ensuring peaceful poll in the sensitive Kadapa Lok Sabha seat. The polling officials have immediately replaced the Electronic Voting Machines which developed technical snags initially.

Around 22 per cent polling has been reported by till noon in the bye-election to the Bastar Lok sabha seat in Chhattisgarh. Besides the Congress, the BJP and the CPI five other candidates are also in the fray. More than 1700 polling centres have been set up across the Bastar division where about 12 lakh voters are to exercise their franchise by 4 pm today. Our correspondent has filed this report:
The 8th of May that is today itself will decide the fate of 8 candidates during 8 hours of polling as to who will represent the people of Bastar, largely tribals, in the Lok Sabha. The Bastar bye election in the state has generated enough heat seemingly for two main reasons:- first, it is being held under the threat of a naxalite boycott and second, the seat has become a prestige issue as much for the BJP to retain it as for the Congress to snatch it away. The seat which fell vacant after the recent demise of the BJP MP Mr, Baliramn Kashyap lies in the hot bed of naxalism in the state. For this, adequate security arrangements like the deployment of about 15 thousand security personnels, 5 helicopters for aerial vigilance and the sealing of the inter-state borders have been made for a smooth conduct of the polls.

In Uttar Pradesh, polling for Pipraich Assembly constituency of Gorakhpur district is going on peacefully with 29% voters exercising their franchise till noon. The polling stopped for some times at two booths due to technical snag in the Electronic Voting Machines but was soon restored. Our correspondent reports, heat and harvesting season is the reason behind low voters’ turn out.
The voters’ turnout has come down as the day is progressing due to high temperature while the farmers are busy harvesting their crops. The women outnumbered men in early cast of vote. The security is tight and video camera have been put in place to observe the voting process. As much as 45 micro observers have been deployed to monitor the poll process. The election is being held due to casual vacancy and the general election is due next year. In view of this the BSP and Congress have not fielded their candidates and the fight is triangular between Samajwadi Party, BJP and an independent candidate who have been minister in the state. The widow of departed sitting MLA, Rajmati is contesting as a Samajwadi Party candidate.
