संयुक्त प्रगतिशील गठबंधन -यूपीए ने वरिष्ठ कांग्रेसी नेता और वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी को राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए अपना उम्मीदवार मनोनीत किया है। यूपीए ने सभी राजनीतिक दलों से श्री मुखर्जी को समर्थन देने की अपील की है। यूपीए अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी ने कल शाम प्रधानमंत्री निवास पर हुई यूपीए बैठक में श्री मुखर्जी के नाम की घोषणा की।यूपीए सभी राजनीतिक दलों के संसद सदस्यों और राज्य विधानसभाओं के सदस्यों से राष्ट्रपति पद के उम्मीदवार प्रणब मुखर्जी के समर्थन की अपील करता है।अपनी उम्मीदवारी पर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करते हुए श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने यूपीए अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी को धन्यवाद दिया। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि उन्होंने पूरी विनम्रता के साथ उम्मीदवारी स्वीकार की है और राष्ट्रपति पद के यूपीए का उम्मीदवार होना उनके लिये सम्मान का विषय है ।
मैं बहुत भाग्यशाली हूँ कि मुझे अपनी पार्टी के सहयोगियों का प्यार, स्नेह और विश्वास मिला है। साथ ही मैं अन्य राजनीतिक दलों के सदस्यों और नेताओं का भी आभारी हूँ। अगले कुछ हफ्तों में अब एक बार फिर मैं उनसे कृपा और सहयोग की मांग करूंगा।नई दिल्ली में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि पांच दशकों के अपने लम्बे राजनीतिक जीवन में उन्हें अपनी पार्टी के सहयोगियों तथा सभी राजनीतिक दलों के नेताओं और सदस्यों का स्नेह और विश्वास पाने का सौभाग्य मिला है। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि यूपीए सभी पार्टियों के साथ सलाह मशविरा करेगा। तृणमूल कांग्रेस की प्रमुख ममता बनर्जी को अपनी बहन बताते हुए श्री मुखर्जी ने राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में उनकी पार्टी से भी सहयोग का अनुरोध किया।वित्त मंत्रालय छोड़ने के बारे में पूछे जाने पर श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह स्वयं जाने माने अर्थशास्त्री हैं और वे किसी भी स्थिति से निपट सकते हैं। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि यूपीए अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी और प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह नये वित्तमंत्री के बारे में फैसला लेंगे।

यूपीए अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी द्वारा राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए प्रणबमुखर्जी की उम्मीदवारी की घोषणा के तुरंत बाद कई राजनीतिक दलों ने श्री मुखर्जी को समर्थन देने की एलान किया है। समाजवादी पार्टी प्रमुख मुलायम सिंह यादव ने अपनी पार्टी के समर्थन की घोषणा करते हुये कहा कि श्री मुखर्जी एक योग्य, अनुभवी और प्रबुद्ध सांसद हैं।बहुजन समाज पार्टी की प्रमुख सुश्री मायावती ने भी श्री मुखर्जी को अपनी पार्टी का समर्थन देने की बात कही है।डीएमके प्रमुख एम करूणानिधि ने भी राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए श्री मुखर्जी की उम्मीदवारी का समर्थन करते हुए कहा कि श्री मुखर्जी का व्यक्तित्व बहुआयामी है। राष्ट्रीय जनता दल के अध्यक्ष लालू यादव और लोक जनशक्ति पार्टी के प्रमुख रामविलास पासवान ने भी श्री मुखर्जी को समर्थन देने की घोषणा की है।----
निर्वाचन आयोग १९ जुलाई को होने वाले राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए आज अधिसूचना जारी करेगा। इसके साथ ही राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए नामांकन भरने की प्रक्रिया शुरू हो जायेगी। नामांकन पत्र आज सुबह ११ बजे से भरे जा सकेंगे और यह प्रक्रिया ३० जून तक चलेगी। दो जुलाई को नामांकन पत्रों की जांच होगी और चार जुलाई तक नाम वापस लिये जा सकते हैं। राष्ट्रपति चुनाव १९ जुलाई को गुप्त मतदान के जरिये होंगे और २२ जुलाई को मतगणना होगी। वर्तमान राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटिल का कार्यकाल २४ जुलाई को समाप्त हो रहा है।निर्वाचन आयोग ने केंद्र सरकार से परामर्श के बाद राज्यसभा के महासचिव को निर्वाचन अधिकारी नियुक्त करने का फैसला किया है। सभी राज्यों की राजधानियों में सहायक निर्वाचन अधिकारी नियुक्त किये जायेंगे।----
महाराष्ट्र में उस्मानाबाद जिले में कल रात एक सड़क दुर्घटना में कम से कम ३२ तीर्थयात्रियों की मौत हो गई और १६ घायल हो गये। यह दुर्घटना उस समय हुई जब तीर्थयात्रियों को ले जा रही बस के ड्राइवर ने नियंत्रण खो दिया और बस नदी में जा गिरी। दुर्घटनाग्रस्त बस हैदराबाद से शिरडी जा रही थी। घायलों को उस्मानाबाद और शोलापुर के सरकारी अस्पतालों में भर्ती करा दिया गया है। पुलिस ने बताया कि सभी यात्री आंध्र प्रदेश के थे।----
उधर, राजस्थान में दो अलग-अलग सड़क हादसों में २३ लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई। जालौर जिले में सांचोड़ के पास कल एक सड़क दुर्घटना में १९ लोगों की मौत हो गई और ४० घायल हो गये। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि घायलों को पास के अस्पतालों में भर्ती कराया गया है।यह दुखद हादसा साचौड़ से बाड़मेर जा रही एक बस के सिबाड़ा गांव के पास ट्रक से टकरा जाने के कारण हुआ। इस भीषण टक्कर के बाद दोनों वाहनों में आग लग गई। बस के पिछले हिस्से में आग की लपटें उठने और टक्कर के कारण दरवाजा जाम हो गया जिससे यात्री अपने आप को बचा नहीं सके और एक के बाद एक लपटों की चपेट में आने लगे। मुख्यमंत्री अशोक गहलोत ने इस दुर्घटना पर दुख व्यक्त करते हुए जिला प्रशासन से पीड़ित लोगों को पूरी मदद करने की हिदायत दी है।

प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह आज मैक्सिको और ब्राजील की एक सप्ताह की यात्रा पर रवाना हो रहे हैं। वे मैक्सिको के लॉस काबोस में पैसिफिक रिसॉर्ट में जी-२० शिखर सम्मेलन में भाग लेंगे। बाद में डा. सिंह सतत विकास के बारे में रियो प्लस ट्वंटी सम्मेलन में शामिल होंगे।विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता सैयद अकबरउद्दीन ने कल नई दिल्ली में संवाददाताओं को बताया कि प्रधानमंत्री मेैक्सिको के राष्ट्रपति फिलिप केलड्रॉन, जर्मनी की चांसलर एंगेला मर्केल और रूस के राष्ट्रपति ब्लादिमीर पुतिन के साथ अलग अलग बैठक करेंगे। डा. सिंह जी-२० सम्मेलन के दौरान फ्रांस के राष्ट्रपति फ्रांक्वा ओलांद से भी मुलाकात करेंगे।यूरोज+ोन संकट की पृष्ठभूमि में हो रहे इस शिखर सम्मेलन में वित्तीय प्रणाली को मजबूत बनाने तथा समावेशी आर्थिक विकास के उपायों पर चर्चा होगी। श्री अकबरउद्दीन ने कहा कि मेजबान देश मैक्सिकों ने पांच मुख्य विषय तय किये हैं जिन पर जी-२० देशों के नेता विचार-विमर्श करेंगे।
पहली बात है विकास और रोजगार के आधार को मजबूत करने के लिये आर्थिक स्थिरता और सरंचनात्मक सुधार लाना, दूसरी आर्थिक विकास को प्रोत्साहन देने के लिए वित्तीय प्रणाली और समावेशी वित्त को मजबूत करना है। तीसरा है कि सभी देशों को एक साथ जोड़ने वाले अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वित्तीय योजना तैयार करना, चौथा खाद्य सुरक्षा और कीमतों के उतार-चढ़ाव को नियंत्रित करना और पांचवां जलवायु परिवर्तन की चुनौती का मुकाबला करना तथा पर्यावरण के अनुकूल सतत विकास को बढ़ावा देना है।उन्होंने बताया कि रियो सम्मेलन के दौरान प्रधानमंत्री नेपाल के प्रधानमंत्री बाबूराम भट्टराई, श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति महेंदा राजपक्षे से भी मिलेंगें। डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ब्राजील के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति लुला द सिल्वा से भी मुलाकात करेंगे।

आंध्र प्रदेश में वाई एस आर-कांगे्रस ने १८ विधानसभा सीटों के लिये हुए उपचुनाव में १५ सीटें जीत ली हैं। कांगे्रस को दो विधानसभा सीटों पर जीत हासिल हुई। वाई एस आर कांग्रेस ने नेल्लूर लोकसभा सीट का उपचुनाव भी जीत लिया है। पार्टी के उम्मीदवार राजामोहन रेड्डी ने अपने निकटतम प्रतिद्वंद्वी टी सुब्बारामी रेड्डी को दो लाख ९१ हजार से भी अधिक मतों के अंतर से पराजित किया।----
सरकारी क्षेत्र की तेल कंपनियों ने विमान इर्ंंधन यानी एटीएफ की कीमत में पांच प्रतिशत की कमी की है। फरवरी २०१० के बाद विमान ईंधन की कीमतों में यह सबसे बड़ी गिरावट है। इंडियन ऑयल कॉरपोरेशन के अनुसार ईंधन कीमतों में कमी कल रात से लागू हो गईं। अब दिल्ली में एटीएफ की कीमत तीन हजार २६० रुपये प्रति किलोलीटर कम होकर ६२ हजार ४१० रुपये प्रति किलोलीटर हो गई है। कीमतें घटने से आर्थिक मंदी से जूझ रही एयरलाइंस को कुछ राहत मिलेगी।----

अमरीका के वॉल स्ट्रीट में भारतीय मूल के कामयाब अमरीकी कारोबारी रजत गुप्ता को बाजार की गोपनीय सूचनाओं को लीक करने का दोषी पाया गया है। मैनहटन में एक अमरीकी अदालत ने गोल्डमैन के पूर्व निदेशक ६३ वर्षीय श्री गुप्ता को अपने पूर्व मित्र और गैलीयोन हेज फंड के संस्थापक राजा रत्नाम को अंदरूनी सूचनाएं प्रदान करने का दोषी ठहराया। अदालत १८ अक्टूबर को गुप्ता की सजा का ऐलान करेगी।----

The United Progressive Alliance, the UPA has nominated senior Congress leader and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as their candidate for the Presidential poll. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi announced Mr. Mukherjee candidature at an UPA meeting that took place at the Prime Minister's residence last evening. Mrs. Gandhi said, Mr Mukherjee has long experience of public service and enjoys wide spread support cutting across party lines. The UPA Chairperson appealed to all parties to extend their support to Mr. Mukherjee.
The UPA appeals to all political parties and all Members of Parliament and Members of State Legislative Assemblies to support the candidature of Shri Pranab Mukherjee for the office of President.
Reacting to his nomination, Mr Mukherjee thanked UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for his nomination. Mr. Mukherjee said he has accepted the candidature with humility and feels deeply honoured to be the UPA nominee for the President's post.
"I am deeply honoured on the nomination as a candidate for the election to office to the President of India by my party and UPA too, I am grateful to congress president Sonia Gandhi for this recognition. I accept this offer with all humility."
Describing Trinamool Congress Chief, Mamata Banerjee as his sister, Pranab Mukherjee also sought the support of her party in the Presidential polls.
Soon after Mrs. Gandhi announced Pranab Mukherjee's candidature for the President's post, a number of political parties extended their support for the veteran Congress leader. Announcing his party's support, Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said, Mr. Mukherjee is an able, experienced and scholarly parliamentarian. BSP chief Mayawati also extended her party's full support to Mr. Mukherjee. She said, Mr. Mukherjee is the most capable, mature and correct presidential candidate. DMK chief M. Karunanidhi also welcomed Mr. Mukherjee's candidature for the President's post. Rashtriya Janta Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan have also extended their parties' support to Mr. Mukherjee.

The process for filing of nominations for the July 19th Presidential poll will start today with the issuance of notification by the Election Commission. The filing of nominations will start at 11 AM today and will continue till the 30th of this month. After scrutiny on July 2nd, candidates can withdraw their nominations by July the 4th. The Presidential election is slated on July 19 through secret ballot which will be counted on July the 22nd. The term of incumbent President Pratibha Patil ends on July the 24th.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Y S R Congress party has bagged the Nellore Lok Sabha Constituency and 15 Assembly seats, with the Congress winning two assembly constituencies in the bye-polls. YSR Congress party candidate Rajamohan Reddy retained the seat by over 2 lakh 91 thousand votes over his nearest rival, T Subbarami Reddy. The party won from 15 assembly constituencies including Narsannapet, Payakaraopet, Polavaram and Tirupati. The Congress won from Ramachandrapuram and the Narsapuram assembly constituencies.

In Maharashtra, at least 32 pilgrims were killed and 16 injured in a road accident in Osmanabad district last night. The accident occurred when the driver of the ill-fated bus lost control and it fell into a river. The bus was going Shirdi from Hydeabad. The injured have been admitted to Government hospitals in Osmanabad and Solapur. Police said, all passengers were were from Andhra Pradesh.

Twenty three people have been killed and more than 60 injured in two separate accidents in Rajasthan. In Jalore district, 19 passengers were killed in a road accident near Sanchore yesterday. The incident occurred when the bus in which they were travelling caught fire after colliding with a truck on a highway in Siwana area. While 15 people were burnt alive, four succumbed to their injuries in various hospitals. Our correspondent reports that more than 40 others were injured in the incident.
The ill fated bus was on its way to Barmer from Sanchore when it collided head on with a truck near Siwada village. Both the vehicles caught fire after this severe collision. The rear portion of bus caught fire first while the gate was blocked after collision leaving no chance for the passenger to escape. The passengers were trapped inside the bus and were caught in the flames. The Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressing shock over the incident has directed the District Administration to provide all possible relief to the affected persons. Prem Bhartai, AIR News, Jaipur.
In another incident in Bikaner, four persons were killed and 23 injured when a bus carrying a wedding party overturned during the wee hours yesterday. The bus was returning to the groom's village after the wedding at Hiran Camp when the mishap occurred under the Doongargarh police station area.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh leaves on a week-long visit to Mexico and Brazil today. During his visit, Dr Singh will participate in the crucial G-20 Summit in the Pacific resort of Los Cabos and will also attend the Rio + 20 conference on Sustainable development. Briefing media persons in New Delhi yesterday, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the Prime Minister will had bilateral meetings with leaders of Mexico, Germany, France and Russia. Mr Akbaruddin said, the host country has listed 5 areas on which the G-20 countries will deliberate.
Number one is economic stabilization and structural reform as foundations for the growth and employment. Number two is strengthening the financial system and fostering financial inclusion to promote economic growth. Three, improving international financial architecture in an inter connected world. Four, enhancing food security, addressing commodity price volatility and number five, promoting sustainable development, green growth and fight against climate change.

The economist turned Prime Minister, whose advice is sought as such global platforms, is expected to give his preion on how the crisis in the Eurozone could be resolved. राष्ट्रपति पद के चुनाव के लिए निर्वाचन आयोग द्वारा अधिसूचना जारी किए जाने के साथ ही आज नामांकन पत्र भरने की प्रक्रिया शुरू हो गई। १९ जुलाई को होने वाले इस चुनाव के लिए ३० जून तक नामांकन भरे जाएंगे। दो जुलाई को इनकी जांच होगी और ४ जुलाई तक नाम वापस लिए जा सकेंगे। राष्ट्रपति पद के चुनाव के लिए गुप्त मतदान के जरिए डाले गए वोटों की गिनती २२ जुलाई को होगी। मौजूदा राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटील का कार्यकाल २४ जुलाई को समाप्त हो रहा है। राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के निर्वाचन मंडल में ४ हजार ८९६ मतदाता हैं जिनमें से ७७६ संसद के दोनों सदनों के सदस्य हैं और ४ हजार १२० राज्य विधानसभाओं के सदस्य हैं। इनमें दिल्ली और पुडुचेरी विधानसभाओं के सदस्य भी शामिल हैं। संयुक्त प्रगतिशील गठबंधन-यूपीए ने राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए वरिष्ठ कांग्रेस नेता और वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी को अपना उम्मीदवार बनाया है। यूपीए ने सभी दलों से श्री मुखर्जी को समर्थन देने की अपील भी की है। यूपीए अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी ने कल शाम प्रधानमंत्री के निवास पर हुई बैठक में श्री मुखर्जी की उम्मीदवारी की घोषणा की।

कर्नाटक में सीबीआई ने आज बंगलौर के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री बी एस येदियुरप्पा के पुत्रों और दामाद को पूछताछ के लिए बुलाया। सूत्रों के अनुसार सीबीआई ने उनसे खनन कंपनियों को लाभ पहुंचाने के बदले दान लेने के मामले में उनसे पूछताछ की। इस मामले का खुलासा अवैध खनन के बारे में लोकायुक्त की रिपोर्ट से हुआ था जिसके बाद उच्चतम न्यायालय ने मामले की जांच के लिए केन्द्रीय अधिकार प्राप्त समिति बनाई थी और सीबीआई को मामले की जांच का काम सौंपा था। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने सीबीआई से तीन महीने के अंदर जांच पूरी करने को कहा है। आरोप है कि यदियुरप्पा के पुत्रों ने बंगलौर में वह जमीन २० लाख रूपये में खरीदी, जिसकी अधिसूचना रद्द की गई थी और यह जमीन साउथ-वेस्ट खनन कंपनी को २० करोड़ रूपये में बेची। ये आरोप भी है कि खनन क्षेत्र में लाभ प्राप्त करने के बदले येदियुरप्पा के पुत्रों के प्रेरणा ट्रस्ट को पैसा दिया गया था। ---
न्यूयॉर्क की एक अदालत ने शेयर निवेश मामलों में धोखाधड़ी करने और षडयंत्र रचने के मुकदमे में गोल्डमेन सैक्स के पूर्व निदेशक भारतीय मूल के रजत गुप्ता को दोषी करार दिया है। रजत गुप्ता पर आरोप था कि उन्होंने श्रीलंकाई मूल के अरबपति हेज एण्ड फंड मैनेजर राज राजारत्नम को गैरकानूनी तौर पर गोल्डमैन सैक्स और बर्कशेयर जैसी कंपनियों की खुफिया जानकारी दी थी जिसके आधार पर शेयर बाजार में अवैध रूप से शेयरों की खरीद-फरोख्त की गयी थी। राज राजारत्नम पहले ही दोषी करार दिये जा चुके हैं और उन्हें ग्यारह साल कैद की सजा सुनायी जा चुकी है। रजत गुप्ता को १८ अक्तूबर को सजा सुनायी जायेगी। तब तक वह आजाद रहेंगे। उन्हें २५ साल तक की कैद हो सकती है। ---
पाकिस्तान के उत्तर-पश्चिमी सूबे में आज खैबर कबाइली इलाके में एक भीड़ भरे बाजार में शक्तिशाली विस्फोट में कम से कम १४ लोग मारे गए और २० लोग घायल हो गए। अधिकारियों ने कहा है कि यह विस्फोट खैबर एजेंसी के लांदी कोटल कस्बे में हुआ। दस लोगों की मौके पर ही मौत हो गई जबकि चार लोगों ने अस्पताल में दम तोड़ा। मरने वालों में एक बच्चा भी शामिल है। गंभीर रूप से घायलों को पेशावर के अस्पतालों में भेजा गया है। पुलिस और सुरक्षा बलों ने पूरे इलाके को घेर लिया है और तलाशी अभियान शुरू किया है। किसी भी गुट ने फिलहाल इस विस्फोट की जिम्मेदारी नहीं ली है। ---

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has urged G-20 countries to work in coordination to implement policies to revive sustained global growth. In his statement prior to his departure for Mexico and Brazil today, Dr. Manmohan Singh voiced concern that continuing problems in the euro zone will further dampen the global market and adversely impact economic growth. He asserted that there is a need to revive global growth and he will focus on the development dimension in the G-20 deliberations and the need to focus on investment in infrastructure as a means of stimulating growth. The Prime Minister said this is essential as the world economy is facing the heat in the backdrop of the Euro zone crisis.
Dr. Singh made it clear that European leaders will have to take resolute action to resolve this crisis. The Euro crisis is affecting the global economic growth as it accounts for a major share of the global economy and is also India's major trade and investment partner. On the coordination on BRICS countries the Prime Minister said that the leaders of grouping have agreed to work with the international community to ensure healthy economic recovery.
On the Earth Summit in Rio, the Prime Minister said the cardinal principles of Rio 1992 must not be diluted, particularly the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities as well as equity. The UN Conference on Sustainable Development is a historic opportunity to give meaningful content to the paradigm of sustainable development. The Rio+20 Conference is likely to debate complex and contentious issues such as green economy and Sustainable Development Goals.
"It should reaffirm commitment to the Rio principles and common but differentiated responsibilities which is essential to preserve global partnership on sustainable development. We want to reaffirm the Right to food, to safe drinking water, sanitation, health and education and respect human rights based approaches."
During his visit, Dr. Manmohan Singh is expected to hold

With the issue of notification the process for Presidential poll has been set in motion. The filing of nominations will continue till the 30th of this month and the 19th of next month is the scheduled date for elections.
The counting will take place on the 22nd of July. The term of incumbent President Pratibha Devisingh Patil ends on 24th of July. Our Correspondent adds, the electoral college for the Presidential poll is 4896, comprising 776 Members of both Houses of Parliament and 4120 Members of legislative assemblies.
The United Progressive Alliance, UPA has nominated senior Congress leader and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as their candidate for the Presidential poll. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi announced Mr. Mukherjee's candidature after an UPA meeting last evening and sought support for Mr. Mukherjee from all parties.
"The UPA appeals to all political parties and all Members of Parliament and Members of State Legislative Assemblies to support the candidature of Shri Pranab Mukherjee for the office of President."
Reacting to his nomination, Mr Mukherjee said he has accepted the nomination with humility.
"I am deeply honored on the nomination as a candidate for the election to office to the President of India by my party and UPA too. I accept this offer with all humility. I also join them in seeking the cooperation and support of all political parties who constitute the electoral college. "
Soon after UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi announced Pranab Mukherjee's candidature for the President's post, a number of political parties extended their support for the veteran Congress leader. Announcing his party's support, Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said, Mr. Mukherjee is an able, experienced and scholarly parliamentarian.
BSP chief Mayawati also extended her party's unequivocal support to Mr. Mukherjee. She said, Mr. Mukherjee is the most capable, mature and correct presidential candidate. DMK chief M. Karunanidhi also welcomed Mr. Mukherjee's candidature for the President's post.
Rashtriya Janta Dal chief Laloo Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan have also extended their parties' support to Mr. Mukherjee. The opposition National Democratic Alliance is yet to finalise its strategy for the Presidential poll.

The Congress today expressed the hope that Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee will accept the candidature of Pranab Mukherjee for the post of President. Union Coal Minister and Congress leader Sri Prakash Jaiswal said, people give their candidature but after that whatever decision is taken is accepted by everyone.
The BJP core group is meeting this evening in New Delhi to discuss the presidential polls. The party is expected to finalise its stand in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the NCP has asked P A Sangma to withdraw from contesting the Presidential polls. Senior Party leader and Union Minister Praful Patel said in New Delhi that, the party's line was to unconditionally support Pranab Mukherjee for the top constitutional post. Mr. Patel also said that, Mr Sangma does not enjoy the support of the NCP and he should not defy the party's direction or the line of thinking.

One of the best known names known on Wall Street, Rajat Gupta has been found guilty of insider trading, by a court in New York. It held the 63-year-old former Goldman director guilty of providing inside information to Galleon hedge fund founder and his former friend Rajaratnam who was sentenced last year to 11 years in prison for insider trading.
The court will pronounce the sentence on October 18. Securities fraud carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years while conspiracy carries a five-year maximum prison sentence.

In Maharashtra, 32 pilgrims were killed and 21 injured in a bus accident in Osmanabad district last night. They include 16 male and 14 female passengers. Police sources said, the injured were rushed to government hospital in Solapur where the condition of 5 is reported to be critical.
All those traveling by the ill fated bus hailed from various places from Andhra Pradesh namely Hyderabad, Guntur, Vishakhapattanam and Nampalli. Identification of only one victim has been done so far. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Government has sent medical teams to Osmanabad to provide relief and medical assistance to the Shirdi accident victims.

A powerful explosion today ripped through a crowded market in the restive Khyber tribal region of northwest Pakistan, killing at least 14 people and injuring over 20. Officials said, the blast occurred in Landi Kotal town of Khyber Agency. Ten people were killed instantly while four more succumbed to their injuries in hospital. A child was among the dead.
Those with serious injuries were shifted to hospitals in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Several shops were destroyed by the blast. The nature of the explosion could not be ascertained immediately.
According a media report, the bomb was planted in a truck. Police and security forces cordoned off the site and launched a search operation. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Japan is restarting two nuclear reactors, the first to go back online since all 50 were shut down for routine maintenance after the meltdown at the Fukushima power plant, which was triggered by a massive earthquake and tsunami. It is a very controversial and unpopular move. But Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said he would personally take responsibility to restart the reactors.
They were declared safe in April after the government carried out tests to reassure people living nearby that they can resist strong earthquake. There were strong opposition from local communities however to allow them to be restarted. But earlier this morning the Governor of Fukui prefecture, Kazumasa Nishikawa met with the Prime Minister and gave him his approval.
The Prime Minister has urged support for the move, saying Japan faces a summer of power shortages. Mr. Noda held talks with the minister of economy, the minister in charge of the nuclear accident and the chief cabinet secretary, before making the announcement.

Polling has begun in Egypt to elect its new President. More than 50 million voters are eligible to cast their votes across 13000 polling stations spread over 27 districts over the next two days. In the final round of Presidential elections, Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Mursi is pitted against
Ahmed Shafiq, the last premier under Mubarak regime. More than 2 lakh policemen and security forces have been deployed to ensure free and fair elections. 80 foreign observers will be monitoring the polls. Our West Asia Correspondent has filed this report:

In Myanmar, state media reported today that 50 people have died and 54 injured between May 28 and June 14 in Rakhine state, which has been rocked by communal violence. A state of emergency is in force in Rakhine today after the unrest, which poses a serious challenge to Myanmar's reform-minded government.
Nearly 31,900 people are being housed in 37 camps across Rakhine. The Myanmar government considers the Rohingya to be foreigners, while many citizens see them as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and view them with hostility.

The White House has said, President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have broad agreement on the steps that needs to be taken to spur the global economic growth. Speaking at a news conference in Wshington, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes said, Mr. Obama spoke to Dr. Singh a day earlier over phone ahead of the G-20 Summit.
They talked about the G-20 agenda. Both the leaders would be attending next week's G-20 summit in Los Cabos in Mexico. However, no bilateral meeting between the two has been scheduled. He said, the US has continued its strategic dialogue with India that runs across a range of different sectors.
Rhodes said, the two countries want to see deeper strategic cooperation in dealing with the future security of South Asia and Afghanistan as the United States draws down there. In reply to a question, he said, Washington would like to see deeper economic cooperation, including increased US exports and commercial ties with New Delhi.

In China, the Ministry of Commerce today welcomes the decision of the World Trade Organization to rule in China's favor over duties China imposed on U.S. steel exports. China imposed countervailing and anti-dumping duties in April 2010 on U.S. steel products. The punitive duties were imposed after domestic steel makers, including Baosteel Group and Wuhan Iron and Steel Group, complained about imports from the United States.

The U.S. military will not build new bases in the Asia-Pacific as it rebalances its strategic priorities to the region, but will rather rely on allies and partners to pick up the tab. A senior Pacific Command Commander Samuel Locklear said during a press briefing at the Pentagon yesterday. In Assam, 20 people were rescued safely after a country boat capsized in Champavati river at Bongaigaon district last night. The boat was sailing from Chapar in Dhubri district to Oudubi in Bongagion when it capsized. Talking to AIR, Deputy Commissioner of Bongagaion, Santanu Prasad Gotmare said that, 20 to 25 passengers, along with cattle were on board the boat. He said, rescue operation is on.

In Karnataka, former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s sons and son-in-law were summoned by CBI in Bangalore today. CBI interrogated them regarding the ‘donation for mining favour scam’ that had been revealed by Lokayuktha report on illegal mining. The Reserve Bank of India has directed state and central co-operative banks to stop levying penalty on pre-payment of home loans on floating interest rates with immediate effect. In a notification, it said, though many banks have in the recent past voluntarily abolished pre-payment penalties on floating rate home loans, there is a need to ensure uniformity across the banking system.
Earlier this month, RBI had also asked the commercial banks to stop charging such penalties. RBI said the removal of foreclosure charges or pre-payment penalty on home loans will lead to reduction in the discrimination between existing and new borrowers and competition among banks will result in finer pricing of the floating rate home loans.

प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने जी-ट्वेंटी देशों से सतत् विश्व विकास के लिए काम करने का आग्रह किया है। मेक्सिको और ब्राजील की आठ दिन की यात्रा पर रवाना होने से पहले एक बयान में डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह ने यूरो जोन की समस्याओं के बारे में चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि इससे विश्व बाजार में और मंदी आएगी तथा आर्थिक विकास पर विपरीत प्रभाव पड़ेगा। डॉ० सिंह ने स्पष्ट किया कि यूरोपीय नेताओं को इस संकट के समाधान के लिए ठोस कदम उठाने होंगे। यूरो संकट से दुनिया के आर्थिक विकास पर असर पड़ रहा है, क्योंकि विश्व अर्थव्यवस्था में उसका हिस्सा काफी बड़ा है और भारत भी यूरोपीय देशों का एक बड़ा व्यापार और निवेश साझेदार है।ब्रिक्स देशों के साथ सहयोग के बारे में उन्होंने कहा कि इस संगठन के देशों ने आर्थिक स्थिति में सुधार सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय के साथ मिलकर काम करने पर सहमति व्यक्त की है।

वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा है कि सरकार सुधारों के बारे में चुप नहीं बैठी है। उन्होंने संकेत दिया कि सोमवार को भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक की मुद्रानीति की समीक्षा में ब्याज दरों में कमी की जा सकती है, जिससे आर्थिक विकास में गिरावट की दर को रोका जा सकेगा।अगले महीने होने वाले राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए यू पी ए का उम्मीदवार बनाए जाने के बाद एसोचैम सम्मेलन में अपने पहले सार्वजनिक भाषण में वित्त मंत्री ने कहा कि सरकार स्टैंडर्ड एण्ड पूअर्स जैसी विश्व एजेंसियों और उद्योग जगत द्वारा व्यक्त की जा रही चिंताओं को दूर करने के लिए आवश्यक कदम उठा रही है। श्री मुखर्जी ने पैट्रोलियम सब्सिडी के बारे में राज्यों से आग्रह किया कि वे अपने करों में कटौती करें। उन्होंने बताया कि उन्होंने राज्यों को पत्र लिखा है कि केन्द्र भी इस बारे में जरूरी कार्रवाई करेगा, लेकिन इसका संतुलित होना जरूरी है। उन्होंने कहा कि यूरो जोन संकट और रूपये की कीमत में गिरावट को लेकर उन्हें चिंता है, क्योंकि लगभग तीस प्रतिशत निर्यात यूरोप को होता है।

आंध्र प्रदेश में एक सेवानिवृत जिला न्यायाधीश टी वी चलपति राव और निलंबित सी बी आई न्यायाधीश टी पट्टाभिरामा राव के पुत्र को जमानत के लिए रिश्वत मामले में आज हैदराबाद में गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। सूत्रों के अनुसार ये गिरफ्तारियां भ्रष्टाचार-निरोधक ब्यूरो द्वारा की गई हैं।इससे पहले ब्यूरो ने हैदराबाद में पट्टाभिरामा राव और चलपति राव के आवासों पर छापे मारे। इसके अलावा गुन्टूर जिले में चलपति के रिश्तेदार पी. श्रीनिवास राव और एक वरिष्ठ वकील ई. उमा महेश्वर राव के हैदराबाद स्थित आवास पर भी छापे मारे गये। छापों में कुछ आपत्तिजनक सामग्री भी बरामद हुई। सी. बी. आई. को हैदराबाद में पांच लॉकरों से करीब एक करोड़ साठ लाख रूपये भी मिले हैं।

कर्नाटक में सी बी आई ने आज बंगलौर में पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री बी एस येदियुरप्पा के पुत्रों और दामाद को पूछताछ के लिए बुलाया। सूत्रों के अनुसार सरकारी लाभ पहुंचाने का लालच देकर येदियुरप्पा के पुत्रों और दामाद की कंपनियों ने साउथ-वेस्ट माइनिंग कंपनी से कथित रिश्वत लेने के मामले में सी बी आई ने उनसे पूछताछ की। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि रिश्वत के उस मामले के समय येदियुरप्पा राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री थे।सीबीआई इन्क्वायरी के सिलसिले में येदियुरप्पा के बेटे और दामाद को एंटीसिपेट्री बेल की गुरारिश हाईकोर्ट में की है। सीबीआई कोर्ट द्वारा उनकी जमानत की अपील रद्द कर दी गई थी। इसलिए अब उन्होंने हाईकोर्ट का दरवाजा खटखटाया है। सोमवार को इस मुकदमें की सुनवाई हाईकोर्ट में होगी। येदियुरप्पा के परिवार सदस्य की पूछताछ कल भी रहने की संभावना है। सैंट्रल एनपॉवर कमेटी के सुझावों पर सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने सीबीआई को इस घोटाले की छानबीन करने के निर्देश दिये थे।

निर्वाचन आयोग द्वारा आज अधिसूचना जारी किये जाने के साथ ही १९ जुलाई को होने वाले राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए नामांकन पत्र भरने का काम शुरू हो गया है। ३० जून तक नामांकन पत्र दाखिल किये जाएंगे। दो जुलाई को इनकी जांच होगी और चार जुलाई तक नामांकन वापस लिए जा सकेंगे।अगर जरूरी हुआ तो राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए मतदान १९ जुलाई को होगा और मतगणना २२ जुलाई को होगी। वर्तमान राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटील का कार्यकाल २४ जुलाई को समाप्त हो रहा है।

कांगे्रस ने आशा व्यक्त की है कि तृणमूल कांगे्रस प्रमुख ममता बनर्जी राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए प्रणब मुखर्जी की उम्मीदवारी को स्वीकार कर लेंगी। कोयला मंत्री और कांगे्रस नेता श्री प्रकाश जायसवाल ने कहा कि राष्ट्रपति पद के उम्मीदवार के बारे में कांगे्रस और समाजवादी पार्टी के बीच कोई सौदा नहीं हुआ है।राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी ने पी ए संगमा से राष्ट्रपति चुनाव से हट जाने का अनुरोध किया है। पार्टी नेता और केन्द्रीय मंत्री प्रफुल्ल पटेल ने आज नई दिल्ली में कहा कि उनकी पार्टी श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी की उम्मीदवारी का बिना शर्त समर्थन करती है। उन्होंने कहा कि श्री संगमा को उनकी पार्टी का समर्थन प्राप्त नहीं है। लेकिन बीजू जनता दल ने राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए श्री संगमा की उम्मीदवारी का समर्थन किया है।
भाजपा के नेतृत्व वाले एन डी ए के एक प्रमुख सहयोगी, जनता दल-यू के सूत्रों के अनुसार उनकी पार्टी श्री मुखर्जी के बारे में आम सहमति का समर्थन करेगी। पार्टी प्रमुख शरद यादव ने आज शिरोमणि अकाली दल के नेताओं से मुलाकात के बाद कहा कि कल की बैठक के बाद एन डी ए इस बारे में कोई सामूहिक निर्णय लेगा।

बंगलादेश की एक विशेष अदालत ने आज फरवरी २००९ में पीलखाना मुख्यालय विद्रोह में शामिल छह सौ ग्यारह जवानों को जेल और एक-एक सौ टका जुर्माने की सजा सुनाई है। ये सभी बंगलादेश राइफल्स की तेरहवीं बटालियन के जवान थे। अब इस बटालियन को बार्डर गार्डस बंगलादेश के नाम से जाना जाता है। सजा के अनुसार इन सभी को चार महीने से लेकर सात वर्ष तक की जेल और एक-एक सौ टका के जुर्माने की सजा दी गयी है।ब्रिगेडियर जनरल अबू सईद खान के नेतृत्व में तीन सदस्यीय विशेष अदालत-८ ने इन जवानों को दोषी माना है।
२००९ के उस सैन्य विद्रोह के दौरान सत्तावन सैन्य अधिकारी सहित कुल तिहत्तर लोग मारे गए थे।

पाकिस्तान में एक ट्रक में रखे गए बम के विस्फोट में आज खैबर एजेंसी के एक बाजार में २५ लोग मारे गये। अस्पताल के अधिकारियों के अनुसार बच्चों समेत पचास से भी अधिक व्यक्ति घायल हुए हैं और मरने वालों की संख्या में वृद्धि हो सकती है। सुरक्षा अधिकारियों ने बताया कि लगता है लंडी कोतल शहर में एक कबायली नेता को निशाना बनाया गया था जो तालिबान के खिलाफ सरकार का साथ दे रहा था। एक स्थानीय व्यक्ति के अनुसार विस्फोट बहुत ही शक्तिशाली था और इससे पास की इमारतों को नुकसान पहुंचा।-----
सीमा सुरक्षा बल ने पंजाब के गुरूदासपुर जिले में भारत-पाक सीमा के पास डेरा बाबा नानक सैक्टर में सत्रह किलोग्राम हेराइन बरामद की है। सीमा सुरक्षा बल के अधिकारियों ने बताया है कि कल रात पाकिस्तानी तस्करों ने इसे भारतीय क्षेत्र में भेजने के प्रयास किये, लेकिन सीमा सुरक्षा बल ने उन्हें चुनौती दी। दोनों ओर से गोलीबारी हुई। पाकिस्तानी तस्कर कुछ समय बाद हेरोइन छोड़कर भाग गए।-----

The Prime Minister, now on his way to Mexico and Brazil to attend G -20 and Rio summits, has called for working to revive sustained global growth. Dr.Manmohan Singh, who has reached Frankfurt a shortwhile ago, will travel to Los Cabos in Mexico tomorrow after an overnight halt. In his statement prior to his departure for an 8 day visit to the two countries, Dr. Manmohan Singh voiced concern over the continuing problems in the euro zone. He said it will further dampen global market and adversely impact economic growth. Dr. Singh made it clear that European leaders will have to take resolute action to resolve this crisis. Dr. Singh asserted that there is a need to revive global growth and he will focus on the development dimension in the G-20 deliberations. He said there is also need to focus on investment in infrastructure as a means of stimulating growth. On the coordination on BRICS countries the Prime Minister said that the leaders of the grouping have agreed to work with international community to ensure healthy economic recovery. On the Earth Summit in Rio, the Prime Minister said the cardinal principles of Rio 1992 must not be diluted, particularly the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities as well as equity. The Rio+20 Conference is likely to debate complex and contentious issues such as green economy and Sustainable Development Goals. During his visit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold separate meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Nepalese Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and other leaders.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that the government is not sitting idle on reforms and indicated cut in interest rates by RBI in its review of Monitory policy on Monday to arrest the slowdown in the Economic growth. In his first public address after being nominated as the UPA candidate for the Presidential elections at Assocham conference in Mumbai today, he said, government is taking steps to address concerns expressed by global agencies like Standard & Poor's and the industry. He said as Finance Minister, he cannot ignore the ground realities.
Indicating that RBI too will be joining the government in dealing with the slowdown, he said he is confident that keeping in view all the factors, the RBI will adjust the monetary policy as Government is adjusting the fiscal policy. Mr. Mukherjee listed growing burden of petroleum subsidy as one of the difficult areas before the Centre for which he appealed to the States to reduce their taxes. He said he has written to the States that Centre will also respond but it has to be balanced because if the federal finance becomes weak, nobody will be able to bailout Indian economy.

The Congress has expressed the hope that Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee will accept the candidature of Pranab Mukherjee for the post of President. Union Coal Minister and Congress leader Sri Prakash Jaiswal said, people give their candidature but later, whatever decision is taken with consensus, is accepted by everyone. In reply to a question, Mr. Jaiswal said that, there was no deal between Congress and SP on the Presidential candidate issue. NCP has asked Mr. P A Sangma to withdraw from contesting the Presidential polls. Senior Party leader and Union Minister Praful Patel said in New Delhi that the party's line is to unconditionally support Mr.Pranab Mukherjee for the top Constitutional post. BJD, however, has stuck to its stand to back Mr.Sangma as Presidential candidate. BJD Parliamentary Party leader Arjun Sethi told reporters that as of now, there is no change in their decision on the Presidential poll. Sources in JD-U, a key ally of the BJP-led coalition, said the party would favour a consensus around Mukherjee. It feels, a contest should be avoided as it could be embarrassing, as neither Abdul Kalam has so far agreed to contest, nor the NDA has the numbers. JD-U chief Sharad Yadav who met Shiromani Akali Dal leaders today, said after the meeting that NDA will take a collective decision on the matter after its meeting tomorrow.

The BJP will take a final call on the selection of a Presidential candidate after the National Democratic Aliance-NDA meet tomorrow. BJP core committee today met this evening in New Delhi to discuss the issue realated to the Presidential candidate. Meanwhile, the Presidential poll process got rolling today with the issue once of notification by the Election Commission, paving the way for filing of nominations for the July 19th election. As per the notification, the last date for making nominations is fixed as the 30th of this month and the scrutiny of nominations will take place on July 2nd, while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is July 4th. Polling if necessary, will take place on July 19th between 10 AM and 5 PM, and counting on July 22nd. The term of incumbent President Pratibha Devisingh Patil ends on July 24th.

In Andhra Pradesh, a retired district judge T V Chalapathi Rao and son of the suspended CBI judge T Pattabhirama Rao, were arrested in the cash-for-bail case in Hyderabad today. Officials said the arrests were made by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Earlier in the day, the Bureau had conducted raids on the residences of Pattabhirama Rao and Chalapathi Rao in Hyderabad. The case was first cracked by CBI after Pattabhirama Rao, who was additional special judge for CBI court, granted bail to former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy in the Obulapuram Mining Company scam.

In Karnataka, the CBI questioned two sons and son-in-law of former Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa in Bangalore today. CBI is conducting inquiry into the allegations of kickback allegedly received by companies managed by Yeddyurappa’s sons and son in law from South West mining company, in return for favours from the government, when Yeddyurappa was the Chief Minister. CBI has filed chargesheet against Yeddyurappa, his sons and his son in law in this regard.
In the background of CBI enquiry, yeddyurappa and his family members have applied for anticipatory bail. The CBI court has already rejected their plea for bail. High court will continue to hear arguments from advocates of Yeddyurppa on Monday. On anticipatory bail it is learnt that CBI may continue to interogate Yeddyurappa’s family members tomorrow also. All those traveling by the ill fated bus hailed from various places from Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has ordered an inquiry into the Shirdi bus incident.

In Bangladesh, a special court today sentenced 611 jawans for their involvement in the mutiny at Pilkhana headquarters in February 2009. The soldiers belonged to the 13th Battalion of Bangladesh Rifles, now been renamed as Border Guard Bangladesh. The sentences varied from four months jail term to the maximum punishment of seven years and also a fine of 100 taka each. Our correspondent reports that a total of 73 people, including 57 army officers, were killed during the mutiny.
"The trial conducted by the special court -8 of the Border Guards Bangladesh is part of the legal process approved by the Bangladesh government to conduct the trial of those involved in the February 2009 mutiny by a number special courts set up under the erstwhile BDR act. More than three thousand jawans have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment over the last three years by the various special courts of the BGB. Apart from the trial in the special courts which can award a maximum punishment of seven years, a separate trial is also being conducted in a civil court based on the charge sheet filed by the criminal investigation department against 801 jawans and 23 civilians on charges of conspiracy, murder, arson looting and torture. Reports today said the violence that shocked the whole country erupted yesterday at a private ranch, northeast of the capital Asuncion. Nehwal will take on China's Zhou Ruyi Lee in the finals. Earlier,Olympic-bound P.Kashyap failed to clear the semi-final hurdle of Indonesia Super Series after suffering a straight-game defeat against world number nine Simon Santoso in the men's singles badminton competition . He went down 15-21, 12-21 to Simon Santoso. Kashyap will next play in the Singapore Open from June 19 at Singapore City.
