कैंसर रोग उपचार के लिए तिरूवंतपुरम क्षेत्रीय कैंसर केन्द्र, देश का एक प्रमुख संस्थान है, जहां हर साल करीब १३ हजार कैंसर रोगियों का इलाज होता है। तेजी से बढ़ रहा स्तन कैंसर चिंता का विषय है। अकेले केरल में ही हर साल स्तन कैंसर के १७ सौ रोगियों के मामले सामने आते हैं। इस केन्द्र में जल्द ही स्तन कैंसर का पता लगाने के लिए ढ़ाई करोड़ लागत वाली डिजिटल मैमोग्राफी मशीन लगाई जाएगी। इस केंद्र के १२वीं पंचवर्षीय योजना में राष्ट्रीय कैंसर केन्द्र बन जाने की संभावना है। राज्य के पांच जिलों में इस तरह के केन्द्र खोलने के लिए डॉक्टरों और उनके सहयोगियों की टीम को इस क्षेत्रीय कैंसर केंद्र में प्रशिक्षण दिया जाएगा।

राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटिल ने राज्यों से आतंकवादी गतिविधियों को कतई सहन न करने की कारगर व्यवस्था कायम करने की अपील की है। उन्होंने कहा कि देश की सुरक्षा को मजबूत बनाने के लिए केन्द्र और राज्य सरकारों को मिलकर काम करना होगा। कल नई दिल्ली में राज्यपालों के दो दिन के सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन करते हुए श्रीमती पाटिल ने देश की बाहरी और आंतरिक सुरक्षा पर सबसे अधिक ध्यान देने पर जोर दिया और कहा कि आतंकवाद के कारण देश को अनेक चुनौतियों का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। इसमें वामपंथी उग्रवाद भी शामिल है। श्रीमती पाटील ने कहा कि वैश्विक आर्थिक मंदी और मुद्रास्फीति के दबाव के बावजूद हमारी अर्थव्यवस्था का आधार मजबूत बना हुआ है।

अरुणाचल प्रदेश में पूर्वी कामेंग जि+ले के सेप्पा में कल शाम एक अस्थाई पुल ढह जाने से ६ लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई। २५ लोग लापता हैं। पुलिस सूत्रों ने बताया कि सेप्पा शहर को जोड़ने वाला और कामेंग नदी पर बना यह पुल उस समय ढह गया जब लोग इसे पार कर रहे थे। अधिकारियों ने बताया कि इस घटना में अब तक २९ लोगों को बचा लिया गया है। उनमें से ५ की हालत चिंताजनक है। उन्होंने बताया कि बचाव कार्य अब भी जारी है।----
गुजरात में जूनागढ़ जि+ले में सोमनाथ-वेरावल के निकट गादू गांव में एक मिनी बस और एक ट्रक के बीच हुई आमने-सामने की टक्कर में तीन महिलाओं और २ बच्चों सहित १३ लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई और २५ घायल हो गये। यह दुर्घटना कल दोपहर बाद उस समय हुई जब एक प्राइवेट मिनी बस यात्रियों को लेकर जूनागढ़ से वेरावल जा रही थी।-----
टाटा मोटर्स ने कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालय के एकल न्यायाधीश के उस आदेश को चुनौती देने वाली एक अपील इसी उच्च न्यायालय में ं दाखिल की है, जिसमें सिंगूर भूमि पुनर्वास तथा विकास अधिनियम २०११ को उचित ठहराया गया था। इस अधिनियम के ज+रिये पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार ने सिंगूर में छोटी कार परियोजना के लिए टाटा मोटर्स को ज+मीन पट्टे पर दी थी। अवकाश के बाद कल यह याचिका उच्च न्यायालय की खण्डपीठ के समक्ष पेश किये जाने की संभावना है। न्यायमूर्ति आई पी मुखर्जी ने इस साल २८ सितम्बर को सिंगूर भूमि पुनर्वास और विकास अधिनियम २०११ को संवैधानिक बताया था। हालांकि न्यायालय ने इस आदेश पर २ नवम्बर तक रोक लगा दी थी, ताकि कोई भी प्रभावित पक्ष इस मामले में अपील दाखिल कर सके।-----

अफगानिस्तान में कल काबुल में हुए एक आत्मघाती कार बम विस्फोट में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सहायता बल के १३ सदस्यों, तीन नागरिकों और अफगानिस्तान के एक पुलिसकर्मी सहित १७ लोग मारे गये। आत्मघाती हमलावर ने काबुल के दक्षिण-पश्चिम में उप-नगरीय इलाके दारूल-अमन चौक में अमरीका के नेतृत्व वाले अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सहायता बल के काफिले को निशाना बनाया। कंधार प्रान्त में एक अन्य घटना में सुबह की परेड के दौरान आस्ट्रेलिया के तीन सैनिक और अफगानिस्तान का एक दुभाषिया मारा गया और सात लोग घायल हो गये। पूर्वी कुनार प्रान्त में हुई तीसरी घटना में एक महिला आत्मघाती हमलावर ने कल असद-आबाद में एक पुलिस कार्यालय के बाहर खुद को बम विस्फोट से उड़ा दिया।अफगानिस्तान में एक लाख ३० हजार से अधिक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सैनिकों की मौजूदगी के बावजूद आत्मघाती संख्या को लेकर बढ़ोतरी को लेकर चिंता होना स्वभाविक है। इतिहास इस बात का गवाह है कि ताक़त के जोर पर दुनिया में कहीं भी स्थाई शांति नहीं हुई है। वक्+त का तकाजा है कि अफगान मसले का मिल बैठकर बातचीत के जरिए कोई स्थाई समाधान खोजा जाए। आगामी इस्ताम्बूल और बोन सम्मेलन इसी दिशा में किये जा रहे प्रयास हैं, लेकिन इससे अफगानिस्तान में स्थाई शांति लाने में कितनी सफलता मिलेगी ये तो आने वाला वक्+त ही बतायागा। राजेन्द्र उपाध्याय आकाशवाणी समाचार काबुल।

The Commonwealth has called for coordinated and timely emergency relief efforts to deal with immediate food crisis. The Declaration adopted at the end of CHOGM at Perth yesterday said the Food Security Principles should have regional and global approach. Calling for preventing food crisis from occurring it said the efforts should aim at mitigating their impacts and on building resilience.
Reaffirming everyone's right to have access to safe, sufficient and nutritious food, the declaration urged members to improve market access for food producers. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said the Declaration commits to the importance of reducing barriers to trade in agriculture.

The Common Wealth Heads of Government meeting at Perth has decided to go in for further discussions on the issue of appointing a Commissioner for Human Rights. At a joint press briefing with Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma said there are a variety of views on the issue among member countries and further consultations are required. He said the report by the Eminent Persons' Group on the reforms in the Commonwealth only suggests that there should be a Commissioner for Human Rights but is silent on the modalities of it. He said there are 106 recommendations. Our correspondent reports from Perth that the leaders from the Commonwealth which consists of 54 countries met at a retreat to chalk out their response to a series of proposals they had commissioned.
Though two significant decisions like Australian assistance for Polio eradication programme, the adoption of Perth declaration on Food Security Principles stole the show at CHOGM, the divide on the issue of Human Rights commissioner did take away some sheen from the Perth Agenda. Prime Minister Gillard could work out a compromise formula to lessen the sharp differences between the developed and the developing countries. Ahmad Badawi, the chair of the Eminent Persons’ report on reforms stole the day with his warning that CHOGM 2011 will be doomed if it does not embrace bold reforms on human rights and other contentious issues.

In Afghanistan, at least 17 people including 13 International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) members, three civilians and one Afghan policeman were killed in a suicide car bomb attack in Kabul yesterday. The suicide bomber targeted a convoy of the US-led ISAF forces in Darul-aman Square in a south-western suburb of the city. The dead include one Canadian and 12 U.S. nationals. According to media reports the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In another incident in Kandhar province, three Australian soldiers and an Afghan interpreter were killed and seven others wounded during morning parade when a man dressed in Afghan Army uniform opened indiscriminate fire on them. In the third incident in eastern Kunar province, a woman suicide bomber blew herself up outside police office in Asad Abad yesterday.

Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia says, India will be supportive of any reasonable multilateral effort to further tackle the soverign debt crisis in the Eurozone. Welcoming the recent Eurozone plan to stabilize debt ridden Greece, he said the Eurozone crisis is a global problem.

Tata Motors has filed an appeal before the Calcutta High Court challenging the single judge order of the Court which had upheld the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011. By this act, the West Bengal government had vested the land leased to Tata Motors at Singur for the company's small car project. The petition is likely to be moved before a division bench of the high court after it reopens tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Public sector Steel Authority of India Ltd, SAIL is holding talks with the Railways to set up a Metro Rail coach factory in West Bengal. This was disclosed by the SAIL Chairman C S Verma in a statement. The West Bengal government has suggested Singur as a site for the same. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, the SAIL has expressed interest to set up a coach factory of the Metro Rail and that she would be happy if the Railways, SAIL and the state government jointly set up the same at Singur.

The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd will purchase land in Mehsana district of Gujarat to set up a manufacturing facility. This was decided at the company's board meeting yesterday. It will be Maruti's third manufacturing facility and its first major establishment outside of its base in Haryana. In a statement, the company said, this purchase will be subject to final negotiations on price and all on legal formalities being completed.

In Arunachal Pradesh, six people were killed and 25 reported missing after a wirerope suspension bridge collapsed last evening at Seppa in East Kameng district. Police said, the hanging bridge over the Kameng river at the entrance to Seppa town collapsed as people were crossing it. Officials said, 29 people have been rescued so far and the condition of five among them is serious.

In Gujarat, 13 people, including three women and two children, were killed and 25 others injured in a head-on collision between a mini bus and a truck at Gadu village near Somnath-Veraval in Junagadh district. The mishap occurred yesterday afternoon, when private minibus carring passengers from Junagadh to Veraval collided with the truck. Five people were killed on the spot, while others succumbed to their injures.

In Jharkhand, a Maoist, who had masterminded the May 3 landmine blast that killed 11 policemen, was arrested yesterday. Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar told reporters that Akshaya, alias Vinod Singh, a sub-zonal commander of the CPI (Maoist), was arrested from Lohardaga district. A revolver, a pistol, four bullets and Naxal literature were recovered from him.

In Assam, the health department has undertaken a special initiative to improve the health condition of pregnant women. Our correspondent reports that the main purpose of the initiative is to reduce Maternal Mortality Ratio, in the state.
Lack of nourishment and care for the would-be mother, sanitation and hygiene are a few reasons which increase Maternal Mortality Ratio. In 2005-2006, Assam has registered 480 MMR per lakh which is declined to 381 as per recent government survey report. The state has also recorded the highest decline rate in the country in terms of maternal mortality ratio. Encouraged by the data, state National Rural Health Mission has decided to launch Iron Sucrose Injection programme by the end of next month in 14 districts to further bring down the mortality ratio.

प्रधानमंत्री ने सार्वजनिक जीवन में भ्रष्टाचार रोकने के लिए प्रशासन की प्रक्रियाओं में सुधार पर जोर दिया है। आज नई दिल्ली में राज्यपाल सम्मेलन के समापन के अवसर पर डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि इस दिशा में बढ़ने का यह सही समय है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार को पारदर्शिता और जवाबदेही बढ़ाने के लिए हर संभव प्रयास करना चाहिए। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि सरकार भ्रष्टाचार को रोकने के लिए सभी संभव उपाय करने के लिए वचनबद्ध है।डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि हाल के महीनों में खाद्य मुद्रास्फीति की उच्च दर चिंता का एक विषय रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार ने उत्पादकता बढ़ाने और कृषि तथा संबद्ध क्षेत्रों में उत्पादन बढ़ाने के जरिए इस मुद्दे के समाधान के लिए कई कदम उठाए हैं। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि मुद्रास्फीति के दबाव को कम करने के लिए सरकार और भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक जरूरी राजकोषीय और मौद्रिक उपाय जारी रखेगी।

सरकार ने राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा विधेयक का मसौदा फिर से तैयार करने का फैसला किया है ताकि खाद्यान्नों का उत्पादन बढ़ने की स्थिति में आम परिवारों को सस्ती दरों पर तीन किलोग्राम से अधिक खाद्यान्नों की आपूर्ति करने का विकल्प खुला रह सके। खाद्य मंत्री के. वी. थॉमस ने कहा कि खाद्य सुरक्षा विधेयक मसौदे पर सार्वजनिक टिप्पणियां और राज्य सरकारों के विचार प्राप्त होने के बाद केंद्र ने विधेयक को अंतिम रूप देते समय कुछ परिवर्तन करने का फैसला किया है।विधेयक के मौजूदा मसौदे में खाद्य मंत्रालय ने प्रस्ताव किया है कि सरकार आम परिवारों की श्रेणी में आने वाले प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को हर महीने तीन किलोग्राम चावल और गेहूॅं की आपूर्ति न्यूनतम समर्थन मूल्य के ५० प्रतिशत पर करेगी।
राष्ट्रीय खाद्य सुरक्षा विधेयक के मसौदे में देश के ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों की ७५ प्रतिशत और शहरी क्षेत्रों की ५० प्रतिशत जनसंख्या को सस्ती दर पर खाद्यान्न पाने का कानूनी अधिकार देने का प्रावधान है।
श्री थॉमस ने कहा कि गर्भवती महिलाओं को छह महीने के लिए प्रति माह एक हजार रूपये का नकद भुगतान ५२ जिलों के बजाय पूरे देश में किया जायेगा।

अरूणाचल प्रदेश में बचाव दल ने पूर्वी कामेंग जिले में कामेंग नदी से तीन महिलाओं का शव बरामद किया है जहां कल शाम को पुल ढह गया था। अस्पताल ले जाते समय एक १२ वर्षीय बच्चे ने भी दम तोड़ दिया। मृतकों की संख्या बढ़ने की संभावना है क्योंकि १४ और लोग अभी भी लापता हैं। सरकारी सूत्रों ने बताया कि इस हादसे में ३० लोग बच गए हैं जिनमें कुछ की हालत गंभीर है।-------
केरल में राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन के अंतर्गत पांच जिला अस्पतालों में कैंसर पहचान केन्द्र स्थापित किये जायेंगें। प्रत्येक अस्पताल को केन्द्र की गैर संचारी रोग नियंत्रण योजना के अंतर्गत सात करोड़ रूपये दिये जायेंगे। नवीनतम आकंड़ों के अनुसार केरल के शहरों में स्तन कैंसर के मामले बढ़ते जा रहे हैं।कैंसर रोग उपचार के लिए तिरूवंतपुरम क्षेत्रीय कैंसर केन्द्र, देश का एक प्रमुख संस्थान है, जहां हर साल करीब १३ हजार कैंसर रोगियों का इलाज होता है। तेजी से बढ़ रहा स्तन कैंसर चिंता का विषय है। अकेले केरल में ही हर साल स्तन कैंसर के १७ सौ रोगियों के मामले सामने आते हैं। इस केन्द्र में जल्द ही स्तन कैंसर का पता लगाने के लिए ढ़ाई करोड़ लागत वाली डिजिटल मैमोग्राफी मशीन लगाई जाएगी। इस केंद्र के १२वीं पंचवर्षीय योजना में राष्ट्रीय कैंसर केन्द्र बन जाने की संभावना है। राज्य के पांच जिलों में इस तरह के केन्द्र खोलने के लिए डॉक्टरों और उनके सहयोगियों की टीम को इस क्षेत्रीय कैंसर केंद्र में प्रशिक्षण दिया जाएगा।

ऑस्ट्रेलिया के शहर पर्थ में आज राष्ट्रमण्डल के शासनाध्यक्षों का सम्मेलन-चोगम संपन्न हो गया। सम्मेलन में सदस्य देशों ने संकल्प लिया कि वे आतंकवादी गतिविधियों के लिए अपनी जमीन का इस्तेमाल नहीं होने देंगे। चौव्वन देशों के नेताओं ने एक ऐसी कानूनी व्यवस्था लागू करने पर भी सहमति व्यक्त की, ताकि आतंकवादी धन न जुटा सकें और आतंकवादी तथा आतंकी संगठन धन की उगाही और उसका इस्तेमाल न कर सकें। उन्होंने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आतंकवाद के बारे में व्यापक संधि पर बातचीत पूरी करने के प्रयासों में तेजी लाने का भी प्रयास किया। विदेश मंत्रालय में अतिरिक्त सचिव दिलीप सिन्हा ने इसे भारत की एक जीत बताया है।सदस्य देशों ने हथियारों के प्रसार और छोटे और हल्के हथियारों के अवैध कारोबार को भी रोकने पर जोर दिया। इस अवसर पर जारी एक विज्ञप्ति में समुद्री डाकुओं का मुकाबला करने और समुद्री सुरक्षा को मजबूत करने के प्रयासों में भी तेजी लाने को कहा गया है। शिखर सम्मेलन की समाप्ति के बाद मीडिया से बातचीत में आस्ट्रेलिया की प्रधानमंत्री जूलिया गिलार्ड ने कहा कि शासनाध्यक्षों ने राष्ट्रमण्डल सुधारों के बारे में प्रख्यात व्यक्तियों की रिपोर्ट की ३० सिफारिशों को स्वीकार कर लिया है और ४३ अन्य सिफारिशों को जांच के लिए भेजा है। उन्होंने कहा कि नेताओं ने राष्ट्रमण्डल में सुधार से संबंधित कई फैसले लिए।
विज्ञप्ति में खाद्य सुरक्षा सिद्धांतों के बारे में पर्थ घोषणा के पारित होने का भी उल्लेख किया गया। इस घोषणा में तत्काल संकट से निपटने के लिए समय पर समन्वित क्षेत्रीय और वैश्विक आपात राहत उपायों पर जोर दिया गया।

श्री कमलेश शर्मा अगले चार साल के लिए फिर राष्ट्रमंडल महासचिव नियुक्त किए गए हैं। ऑस्ट्रेलिया की प्रधानमंत्री और इस साल के चोगम सम्मेलन की आयोजक जूलिया गिलार्ड ने आज पर्थ में, राष्ट्रमंडल देशों के प्रमुखों के तीन दिन के सम्मेलन की समाप्ति पर यह घोषणा की। विदेश मंत्रालय में अपर सचिव दिलीप सिन्हा ने श्री शर्मा के दोबारा चुने जाने का ब्यौरा दिया।
राष्ट्रमंडल शिखर सम्मेलन में भारत के श्री कमलेश शर्मा को चार और वर्षों के लिए पुनःनिर्वाचित किया गया है। ये निर्णय शिखर के अध्यक्षों ने एकमत में यह निर्णय लिया। ये चार वर्ष की अवधि एक अप्रैल २०१२ से प्रारम्भ होगी। ये भारत के लिए बड़े गर्व की बात है। श्री कमलेश शर्मा दुबारा इस पद के लिए निर्वाचित हुए है। ये प्रस्ताव उपराष्ट्रपति ने सम्मेलन में दिया पाकिस्तान ने इसका समर्थन किया और अन्य अध्यक्षों ने एक मत से स्वीकार किया।
राष्ट्रमंडल देशों के नेताओं के प्रति आभार प्रकट करते हुए श्री कमलेश शर्मा ने कहा कि वे राष्ट्रमंडल देशों की जनता की उम्मीदों पर खरा उतरने की पूरी कोशिश करेंगे।

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has called for improved processes of governance to curb corruption in public life. Speaking at the concluding session of the Governors' conference in New Delhi today, he said, it is the right time to move decisively in this direction. He said, government should do the utmost to improve transparency and accountability. The Prime Minister said that our government is committed to take all possible measures to curb corruption. The Prime Minister said, Left Wing Extremism continues to pose a major threat to internal security, but concerted efforts made by the Centre and the States in the past few years, have shown some positive results. The quantum of violence in the current year has declined in comparison to the corresponding period last year.
Dr. Singh sought to dispel the notion that the Centre does not pay attention to the advice of state Governors, but that accepted there was scope for further attention.The Prime Minister urged the Governors to take active interest in the implementation of these development programmes. President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil in her address suggested the setting-up of a Committee of Governors to evolve mutually beneficial models for a farmer-industry partnership. Covering other issues the President said, there was a recommendation by Governors to provide an enabling climate for them to discharge their statutory duties.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the leadership crisis within the ruling Congress seems to be heading towards a conclusion with the Congress High Command calling for a state CLP meeting in Itanagar tomorrow. Highly placed sources said, the observers - Sushil Kumar Shinde, Dhaniram Sandil and Bijoy Krishna Handique will be proceeding to Itanagar for the crucial meeting. In Andhra Pradesh, three sitting legislators from Telangana region today resigned from the ruling Congress party and joined the Telangana Rastra Samithi. Jupalli Krishna Rao, a former State Minister, Dr Rajaih and S. Stayanarayana tendered their resignations to Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President B Satyanarayan this morning. The MLAs said, they have resigned after getting tired of the inconclusive stand of the party over the issue of statehood for Telangana.

Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh, who was granted bail on medical grounds in the cash-for-vote case, was today discharged from the AIIMS where he was undergoing treatment for over a month for kidney-related problems. Curtains came down on the Common wealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Perth with the adoption of a communiqué which commits the member countries to unequivocally prevent the use of their territories for the support, and incitement to terrorist acts. The leaders from the 54 countries also agreed to implement the necessary legal framework for the suppression of terrorist financing, and preventing the raising and use of funds by terrorists, terrorist front organisations, and transnational terrorist organisations. They have also decided to accelerate efforts to conclude negotiations on a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism The member countries will also combat proliferation and trafficking of illicit small arms and light weapons. The communiqué calls for accelerating efforts to combat piracy and strengthen maritime security. Briefing media after the conclusion of the summit, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said, the Heads of Governments have adopted 30 recommendations of Eminent Persons Report on commonwealth reforms and 43 others have been sent for further analysis. She said, leaders took several decisions to reform the Commonwealth.

The government has decided to redraft the National Food Security Bill to keep an option open for supplying more than three kilograms of subsidised foodgrains to general households in case of increased output. Speaking to media, Food Minister K V Thomas said, after receiving public comments and views of state governments on the draft Food Bill, the Centre has decided to make some changes while finalising the Bill. The draft National Food Security Bill seeks to provide a legal entitlement to subsidised foodgrains to 75 per cent of the country's rural population and 50 per cent of urban India.

In Kerala, dedicated cancer detection centres will be set up in five district hospitals of the state under the National Rural Health Mission, NRHM, in the near future. Each hospital will be provided seven crore rupees under the Non-communicable disease control scheme of the Centre. Our correspondent reports that as per the latest data, the cases of cancer, especially breast cancer, are rising fast in a highly urbanised state like Kerala.
"Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvanathapuram, a premier cancer institute of the country treats about 13000 cancer patients in an year. Fast increasing breast cancer cases is a matter of serious concern. Every year 1700 new breast cancer is detected in Kerala. Regioal Cancer Centre will soon have most modern breast imaging and biopsy centre with digital mammography machine worth 2.5 crore rupees. Rare few hospitals in the country have this facility to be inaugurated on coming Tuesday. RCC, Thiruvananthapuram is very likely to become a National Cancer Centre under the 12th five year plan. A slow middle sector in lap 39 slowed Jenson Button down too much for him to offer any challenge for Vettel who won his 11th race of the year. He eventually finished 8.4 seconds slower while Fernando Alonso, who came in third, was 15.8 seconds off Vettel. The best competition on the track for most of the second half was between Mark Webber and Alonso and between Michael Schumacher and Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, both battles between two seconds of the competing cars. Schumacher finished fifth while Alonso came in third despite Webber’s late effort which saw him pull to within a second of the Spaniard in the Ferrari. The portals of the Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath and Yamnotri were closed for pilgrims on Friday. A large number of pilgrims were present for the last darshan of Akhand Jyoti at both the temples. All the four shrines in Garhawal region of the state are closed amid vedic rituals every year in the month of October and November for the winter season and re-open in the month of April-May as the area remains snow-bound.
