लोकपाल विधेयक के मुद्दे पर विचार के लिए प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह द्वारा आयोजित सर्वदलीय बैठक में कल रात आम सहमति नहीं बन सकी। विभिन्न दलों ने सी बी आई और निचली श्रेणी के सरकारी कर्मचारियों को लोकपाल के दायरे में लाने जैसे कुछ प्रमुख मुद्दों पर अलग-अलग राय दी। यह सुझाव भी दिया गया कि संसद का विशेष अधिवेशन आयोजित किया जा सकता है, ताकि सहमति बनाने के लिए समय मिल जाए। प्रधानमंत्री ने इस ऐतिहासिक विधेयक को संसद के इसी सत्र में पारित करने के लिए राजनीतिक दलों से सहयोग मांगा। उनका कहना था कि विधेयक को दलगत राजनीति से अलग रखा जाना चाहिए, क्योंकि सरकार आम सहमति के आधार पर संसद में यह विधेयक पारित कराना चाहती है। डॉ० सिंह ने बताया कि राज्यों में लोकायुक्त का गठन करने और निचली श्रेणी के सरकारी कर्मचारियों को उचित प्रक्रिया के माध्यम से लोकपाल के दायरे में शामिल करने और नागरिक चार्टर के मामले पर संसद सिद्धांत रूप से सहमत हुई थी। बैठक में विप+क्षी दलों की राय अलग-अलग थी। भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने ग्रुप सी और ग्रुप डी के कर्मचारियों को लोकपाल के दायरे में लाने पर जोर दिया तो भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने इसका विरोध किया। भारतीय जनता पार्टी और अन्य विपक्षी दलों ने केन्द्रीय जांच ब्यूरो की जांच शाखा को लोकपाल के दायरे में लाने की मांग की, लेकिन भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के नेता गुरदास दासगुप्ता ने कहा कि उनकी पार्टी की राय में ग्र्रुप सी और ग्रुप डी के करोड़ों कर्मचारी हैं और उन्हें लोकपाल के दायरे में नहीं लाया जा सकता।
इस मामले में मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी की राय अलग थी। उसके नेता सीताराम येचुरी का कहना था कि इन श्रेणियों के कर्मचारी लोकपाल के दायरे में आने चाहिए।

लोकसभा ने कल कालेधन पर भारतीय जनता पार्टी नेता लाल कृष्ण आडवाणी का स्थगन प्रस्ताव ध्वनिमत से नामंजूर कर दिया। प्रस्ताव पर हुई बहस के जवाब में वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा कि सरकार विदेशों में अवैध रूप से जमा कालेधन का पता लगाना चाहती है, लेकिन यह फैसला संसद को करना है कि इससे कैसे निपटा जाए। उन्होंने बताया कि ६६ हजार करोड़ रूपये के कालेधन का पता लगाया गया है। हमने ६६ हजार करोड़ के कालेधन का पता लगाया है और आयकर विभाग विभाग में एक अपराध नियंत्रण शाखा बनाई है। कर चोरी करने वाले बहुत होशियार हैं और उन्हें पता है कि क्या करना है और कैसे करना है। इसलिए आयकर नियमों को लागू करने वालों और कर चोरी करने वालों के बीच बराबर टकराव रहता है।
विदेशों में जमा कालेधन को वापस लाने के मामले में ढिलाई के विपक्ष के आरोपों को खारिज करते हुए श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि कालेधन का पता लगाने के लिए पांच सूत्री रणनीति अपनायी जा रही है। वित्तीय अध्ययनों में विशेषज्ञता वाले तीन राष्ट्रीय संस्थानों से विदेशों में जमा कालेधन का स्वतंत्र रूप से आकलन करने को कहा गया है। वित्त मंत्री ने सदन को आश्वासन दिया कि सरकार इस मुद्दे पर श्वेत-पत्र लाएगी।
श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि स्विट्जरलैंड सहित साठ देशों के साथ दोहरा कराधान रोकने के समझौते किए गए हैं। उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया कि विदेशों से प्राप्त जानकारी पुराने सौदों के बारे में नहीं, बल्कि भावी सौदों के बारे में होगी। विदेशी बैंकों में अवैध खातों वाले भारतीयों के नाम बताने की सदस्यों की मांग के जवाब में उन्होंने कहा कि विदेशी बैंकों में खाताधारियों के नाम बताना संभव नहीं होगा, क्योंकि इनमें कारोबारी उद्देश्यों से धन जमा करने वाले खाताधारी भी हो सकते हैं।
इससे पहले, स्थगन प्रस्ताव पेश करते हुए श्री आडवाणी ने सरकार पर विदेशी बैंकों में जमा कालेधन को वापस लाने में नाकामी का आरोप लगाया।

विपक्ष के आरोपों को खारिज करते हुए कांग्रेस के मनीष तिवारी ने आरोप लगाया कि पूर्व एन डी ए सरकार ने ही दूसरे देशों में धन के प्रवाह को आसान बनाने के लिए मारीशस मार्ग में ढील दी थी। बहस में भाग लेते हुए समाजवादी पार्टी के मुलायम सिंह ने विदेशी बैंकों में जमा कालेधन को वापस लाने के लिए कारगर उपाय करने को कहा। बहस में दूसरी पार्टियों और निर्दलीय सदस्यों ने भी हिस्सा लिया।

राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने वर्षा सिंचित इलाकों में खेती और नवीनतम जानकारी के उपयोग पर चर्चा के लिए आज नई दिल्ली में राज्यपालों की समिति की बैठक बुलायी है। दिनभर की इस बैठक में बरानी खेती, पशुपालन और मछली पालन संबंधी कार्यक्रमों की भी समीक्षा की जाएगी। इनके अलावा किसान-उद्योग भागीदारी, कृषि संबंधी बुनियादी सुविधाओं के विकास में पंचायतों की भूमिका पर भी प्रमुख रूप से चर्चा होगी। पंजाब, राजस्थान, महाराष्ट्र, गोवा, जम्मू-कश्मीर, मेघालय, कर्नाटक, बिहार, उत्तराखंड, नगालैंड, असम, छत्तीसगढ़, तमिलनाडु और मिजोरम के राज्यपाल बैठक में हिस्सा लेंगे। बैठक इस साल अक्तूबर में हुए राज्यपाल सम्मेलन में हुई चर्चा के अनुरूप आयोजित की गई है।

पश्चिम बंगाल में जहरीली शराब पीने से मरने वालों की संख्या बढ़कर ६३ हो गई है। दक्षिणी चौबीस परगना जिले के संग्रामपुर इलाके में कल जहरीली शराब पीने से सौ से ज्यादा लोग बीमार पड़ गये थे। पीड़ितों में ज्यादातर गरीब हैं। ७० लोगों को बांगुर अस्पताल में और अन्य को अलग-अलग अस्पतालों में भर्ती कराया गया है। राज्य सरकार ने मरने वाले प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के करीबी रिश्तेदार को दो लाख रुपए की अनुग्रह राशि देने की घोषणा की है। --
महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री पृथ्वीराज चव्हाण ने विदर्भ, मराठवाड़ा और खानदेश क्षेत्रों में कपास, सोया और धान उगाने वाले किसानों को राहत देने के लिए दो हजार करोड़ रुपये की पैकेज की घोषणा की है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि राज्य विधानसभा के शीतकालीन अधिवेशन के तीसरे दिन कल नागपुर में श्री चव्हाण ने मुसीबत में फंसे किसानों को वित्तीय सहायता देने के मामले पर लम्बी बहस के बाद दोनों सदनों में इसी तरह की घोषणाएं की।महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री श्री पृथ्वीराज चव्हाण ने राज्य के आपदाग्रस्त किसानों की मदद के लिए घोषित विशेष पैकेज के बारे में बताया कि इससे कपास के सभी उत्पादकों के साथ २५ प्रतिशत से अधिक नुकसान को झेलने वाले सोयाबीन तथा धान उत्पादकों को भी राहत दी जाएगी। राज्य के लगभग ८५ लाख हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र के किसान इससे लाभांवित होंगे। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए नागपुर से मै सुनील दबीर

सरकार अगले पांच महीनों में नई नागरिक उड्डयन नीति ला सकती है। इसका लक्ष्य तेजी से बढ़ते नागरिक उड्डयन क्षेत्र में अगले दस वर्षों में निवेश और बुनियादी सुविधाएं बढ़ाना है। नई दिल्ली में एक सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन करते हुए नागरिक उड्डयन सचिव एस. नसीम जैदी ने कल कहा कि नये दशक की चुनौतियों से निपटने के लिए मंत्रालय ने नई नागरिक उड्डयन नीति पर काम शुरू कर दिया है। इसके तहत क्षेत्र में टिकाऊपन, व्यवहारिकता और मानव संसाधन जैसे विषयों पर गौर किया जाएगा। --

तेल का उत्पादन तीन करोड़ बैरल प्रतिदिन के वर्तमान स्तर पर रखने के तेल निर्यातक देशों के संगठन ओपेक के फैसले से तेल कीमतों में ठहराव आएगा। इस साल फरवरी में ब्रैंट क्रूड की कीमत दो साल की सर्वाधिक १२७ डॉलर ०२ सेंट प्रति बैरल हो गई थी। ओपेक के इस फैसले से तेल के प्रमुख उपभोक्ताओं को राहत मिलेगी, जिन्हें अगले वर्ष के कोटे पर तेल निर्यातक देशों में मतभेदों का बुरा प्रभाव पड़ने का अंदेशा था। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि समझौते के अनुसार बारह सदस्य देश अगले साल भी वर्तमान स्तर पर ही उत्पादन करेंगे। इसमें लीबिया भी शामिल है, जिसने संघर्ष समाप्त होने के बाद तेल का निर्यात शुरू कर दिया है। अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजार में तेज का उत्पादन ३० मिलियन डॉलर प्रति बैरल बनाए रखने का ओपेक का फैसला तेल की आपूर्ति और कीमतों में संतुलन बनाए रखने की कोशिश है। जानकारों की राय में तेल के दाम अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजार में १०० से ११० डालर प्रति बैरल के बीच बने रहने के आसार हैं। ओपेक के फैसले के फौरन बाद बेंच मार्क बै्रंट क्रूड के भाव एक डालर ५६ सेंट गिरकर एक सौ सात दशमलव ९६ डालर प्रति डालर पर आ गए। इन फैसलों से उन देशों को राहत मिली है जो तेल के बड़े ग्राहक हैं। अतुल तिवारी, आकाशवाणी समाचार।

काले धन पर सरकार के श्वेत पत्र लाने संबंधी बयान को जनसत्ता और हिन्दुस्तान ने महत्व दिया है, हालांकि राष्ट्रीय सहारा ने वित्त मंत्री के इस बयान को सुर्खी बनाया है कि ब्लैक मनी वालों के नाम नहीं बता सकते। बकौल दैनिक ट्रिब्यून आडवाणी का प्रस्ताव वनिमत से नामंजूर।

The all-party meeting called by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last night could not reach a consensus on the Lokpal Bill, with parties voicing divergent views on some key elements like inclusion of the CBI and the lower bureaucracy. There were suggestions that a special session of Parliament be convened to allow time to evolve a consensus.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sought the cooperation of political parties to ensure passage of the momentous bill during the current session. He said the Bill should not become a subject of party politics as the government was keen to get it passed in Parliament based on consensus. The Prime Minister wanted the leaders of political parties to indicate how far the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee meet the sense of Parliament and how far the various provisions are feasible and efficacious. Dr. Singh said that Parliament had agreed in-principle on matters of the Citizen's Charter, the inclusion of lower bureaucracy under the Lokpal through an appropriate mechanism and the establishment of Lokayuktas in the states.
The meeting saw divergent views being aired by opposition parties, with the BJP pitching for inclusion of Group C and D employees under the Lokpal, while the CPI opposed it. The BJP and other opposition parties also demanded that the CBI's investigative wing come under the Lokpal. However, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said his party feels that Group C and D employees cannot be brought under the Lokpal because there are crores of such employees. The CPI(M) struck a discordant note with the CPI on Group C and D employees being under Lokpal, with its leader Sitaram Yechury saying that they should be brought under the purview of the Lokpal.

The Lok Sabha rejected the adjournment motion moved by the BJP on black money. The motion moved yesterday by senior BJP leader L.K. Advani was defeated by a voice vote. Replying to the debate, the Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee assured the House to bring a white paper on black money. Dismissing opposition charges, Mr. Mukherjee said, it is for Parliament to decide on how to get rid of this menace. He informed the House that the government has achieved concrete success on the front of unearthing black money despite the heavy odds.
"We have unearthed 66 thousand crore of rupees. We have established a criminal wing in the income tax department now. Those who are the tax evaders they are equally clever persons. And they know what to do, how to operate. Therefore, this is a constant battle between the tax evaders and those who are implementing the tax laws."
The reason is that there may be genuine account holders as well as those who have parked their money in these banks for business purposes. Moving the adjournment motion earlier, BJP leader LK Advani alleged that the government has failed in bringing back the black money stashed in foreign banks. He pleaded for stringent laws to curb the flow of illegal money through Hawala channels, which is mostly being used to fund terrorist activities in the country. Mr Advani demanded a white paper on the black money issue.
"Don't hide the names which you have received. We demand a white paper in which the government should mention all the efforts made to bring the black money back."

A meeting of the Committee of Governors will be held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi today to discuss rain-fed area farming and application of knowledge in these areas. It will be chaired by the President Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil. Programmes for dry land farming, animal husbandry and fisheries for sustainable agriculture in these regions will also come up for review in the day-long deliberations.

The government is likely to come up with a new Civil Aviation policy in the next five months, aimed at boosting investment and infrastructure for the fast-growing sector over the next ten years. Inaugurating a conference in New Delhi, the Civil Aviation Secretary S Nasim Zaidi said the Ministry has started fresh work on the new Civil Aviation policy to meet the challenges of the new decade. It will look into the issues of sustainability, viability and human resource of the sector. He said that the new policy would encourage private sector investments and lay emphasis on setting up an air cargo promotion board. Zaidi added that Civil Aviation ministry is also working on a new economic regulatory mechanism for pricing of air tickets as the industry has been passing through a turbulent phase despite growth in passenger traffic.

The death toll in the hooch tragedy in West Bengal has mounted to 63. The incident occurred yesterday when more than hundred fell ill after consuming illicit liquor in Sangrampur area of the South 24 Parganas district. The dead and the ill are mostly from poor background. Those rendered ill were admitted to different hospitals. 70 people have been admitted to the Bangur Hospital. Police arrested five persons in this connection. Our correspondent reports that the State Government has announced compensations for the victims.
"The victims were largely poor labourers and rickshaw pullers. Their ticket to cheap fun turned out to their ticket to death, the biggest question now doing the rounds is, as to how so many illicit liquor joints could operate at Sangrampur, right under the nose of the police and the administration. Although five people have been arrested and two lakh rupees declared as ex-gratia, for the death and their kins it is all too little, all too late. Sudeep Banerjee, AIR News, Kolkata."

The Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Prithviraj Chavan has announced a package of two thousand crore for the distressed cotton, soya and paddy growers mainly belonging to the Vidarbha, Marathwada and Khandesh regions of the state. Our correspondent has details.
"Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Prithviraj Chavan said that the fiscal package would cover all the cotton farmers and only those soya and paddy growers, who suffered crop losses of more than 25 per cent. It would cover a total area of 85 lakh hectares, including 40 lakh hectares of cotton, 30 lakh hectares of soya and 15 lakh hectares of paddy cultivation. The aid would be given on per hectare basis and the particulars of the said amount in respect of each crop would be made known later during the current session. Sunil Dabir, reporting from Nagpur."

The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh accompanied by a high level delegation will leave for Moscow today to participate in the 12th Indo-Russian Annual Summit 2011 on December the 16th. Briefing media persons on the eve of the visit, Foreign Secretary Mr Ranjan Mathai said that bilateral ties with Russia are a key pillar of India‘s foreign policy. India views Russia as a time-tested, trustworthy and reliable strategic partner. The foreign secretary informed that during the Prime Minister's visit several agreements will be signed. Replying to media questions on the status of units III and IV of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project, the Foreign Secretary said that discussions are going on and are in the final stages. He also said that construction of Kudankulam I and II nuclear power plant units are nearing completion with Russian technology. The Foreign Secretary said that besides delegation level talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Dr Manmoham Singh will also have an interaction with the Russian and Indian CEO’s forum. OPEC has decided to maintain the oil output at 30 million barrels a day. The output targets for the 12 member nations for the next year would remain the same as the current levels. At a meeting in Vienna, member nations also agreed to lower their output if the global demand for crude drops. Our West Asia correspondent has filed this report.
"The OPEC decision to maintain the output targets at current levels to 30 million barrels a day reflects its intent to strike a balance in supply and the pricing of oil. Experts say, the oil prices are likely to remain in the range of $100 per barrel. After the OPEC announcement, the benchmark Brent Crude fell $1.56 to $107.96 a barrel. The move will also provide relief to major oil consumers who were expecting the worst in the wake of differences on quota among the member nations. Atul Tiwary, AIR News."

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has been discharged from a Dubai hospital, where he was being treated for a heart condition. Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said in a statement that the President has moved to his private residence in the Emirates to recuperate.

The Hindu writes that there is a question mark on adoption of the Lokpal Bill in the current Session of Parliament. The Hindustan Times writes, "Anna isolated, don't rush Lokpal bill, all parties tell Government".
The Government rejecting the opposition parties vehement demand to make public the identity of Indians holding undisclosed bank accounts in foreign tax havens, is also highlighted by the Press. The Tribune writes, "Its now official". The Government has the names of 36,000 Indians holding foreign bank Accounts, but won't disclose them merely to satisfy the inquisitiveness of parliamentarians.
The Hindustan Times writes that the Prime Minister is hopeful of implementing foreign direct Investment in retail after March 2012, when the Assembly elections in states such as UP would be over and Inflation would also have come down.
The Hindu writes that while a decision was deferred on the National Food Security Bill in the Union cabinet meeting on Wednesday, officials indicated the cabinet may meet again on Sunday to discuss the legislation.
Hindustan Times reports that the much awaited Companies Bill that was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, takes a serious view on insider trading, and an offender may be fined between 5 lakhs and 25 crore rupees or three times the amount of profit made out of insider trading.

संसद में विपक्ष ने आज दिल्ली के एक होटल मालिक एस पी गुप्ता के खिलाफ तीन एफ आई आर वापस लेने के लिये , गृह मंत्री पी चिदम्बरम द्वारा हस्तक्षेप करने की खबरों को लेकर शोर शराबा किया। इस कारण दोनों सदनों की कार्यवाही में बाधा आई। विपक्ष ने आरोप लगाया कि गृह मंत्री ने होटल मालिक की मदद के लिए अपने पद का दुरूपयोग किया। लोकसभा में भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने गृह मंत्री के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की मांग करते हुए शोर-शराबा किया । इस कारण सदन की कार्यवाही कई बार स्थगित करने के बाद दिन भर के लिये स्थगित कर दी गयी।राज्यसभा में भी इस मुद्दे को लेकर हंगामे के कारण कार्रवाही दोपहर तक स्थगित की गयी। भारतीय जनता पार्टी और भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के सदस्यों ने कहा कि श्री चिदम्बरम पर लगे ये आरोप विश्वसनीय लगते हैं।
इस बीच, गृह मंत्रालय ने कहा है कि एस पी गुप्ता के खिलाफ एफ आई आर वापस लेने के मामले में श्री चिदम्बरम की कोई भूमिका नहीं थीं।

कांगे्रस ने कहा है कि सरकार सशक्त लोकपाल विधेयक जल्द लाने के लिए हरसंभव प्रयास कर रही है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता मनीष तिवारी ने नई दिल्ली में संवाददाताओं से कहा कि हाल में किसी भी विधेयक पर इतनी तेजी से काम नहीं हुआ है, जितना कि लोकपाल विधेयक पर । उन्होंने टीम अन्ना को धैर्य रखने की सलाह दी है।बाइट-मनीष तिवारी
लोकपाल के कानून के उपर विचार विमार्श चल रहा है इस कानू का मसौदा तेयार करने के लिए सरकार की तरफ से जो भी कदम उठाने उचित है या बनते है, सरकार सारे कदम उठा रही है। इसके साथ साथ विभिन्न संस्थानों की अपनी एक राय हो सकती है, वो राय उन्होनें स्थाई समिति के सामने भी रखी थी, सरकार के सामने भी रख रहे है तो इन सभी चीजों को एक परिपेक्षा में लेते हुए विधेयक का मसौदा तैयार करने की कौशिश की जा रही है और हमारी इनको यही राय होगी कि जल्द बाजी की जरूरत नही है।
भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता यशवंत सिन्हा ने कहा है कि सरकार को संसद के शीतकालीन सत्र में ही सशक्त और प्रभावी लोकपाल विधेयक पारित करना चाहिये।

कर्नाटक उच्च न्यायालय ने विदेश मंत्री एस.एम. कृष्णा के खिलाफ अवैध खनन के कथित मामले में लोकायुक्त पुलिस की जांच पर अंतरिम रोक लगा दी है। न्यायमूर्ति बी.बी. पिन्टो ने श्री कृष्णा के वकील उदय ललित की दलील सुनने के बाद यह आदेश दिया। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि श्री कृष्णा ने सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता अब्राहम की शिकायत के खिलाफ कर्नाटक उच्च न्यायालय में अपील की थी।कट-सुधीन्द्रा
न्यायालय ने विदेश मं+त्री एस एम कृष्णा के खिलाफ अवैध करण की जांच पर चार सप्ताह के लिए अंतरिम रोक लगाकर उन्हें राहत प्रदान की है। न्यायालय ने अब्राहाम को आपत्ति दर्ज करने के लिए जनवरी छह तारीख को मुकर्रर की है कृष्णा के वकील उदय ललित ने न्यायालय में दलील दी है कि लोकायुक्त रिपोर्ट में एस एम कृष्णा के नाम का कोई उल्लेख नहीं किया गया है, लिहाज उनके खिलाफ प्रथम दृष्टीय कोई मामला नहीं बनता है उन्होंने यह भी दलील दी कि लोकायुक्त रिपोर्ट में २००६ के बाद हुए अवैध खनन के जांच संबंधी विवरण है और उस समय धरम सिंह राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री थे।
श्री कृष्णा पर आरोप है कि १९९९ से २००४ के बीच राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री रहते हुए वे वनों के संरक्षण के आदेश को खनन के उद्देश्य से वापस लेने के लिए उत्तरदायी थे।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने विवादास्पद मुल्लपेरियार बांध मुद्दे के हल के लिए प्रधानमंत्री से अपील करने से आज परहेज किया। केरल की इस मांग पर तमिलनाडु द्वारा एतराज जताये जाने के बाद पांच न्यायाधीशों की संविधान पीठ ने प्रधानमंत्री से अपील नहीं करने का फैसला किया।इस बीच, तमिलनाडु सरकार ने विधानसभा में सर्वसम्मति से एक प्रस्ताव पास कर एक सौ १६ वर्ष पुराने बांध पर राज्य का अधिकार फिर से जताया है। केरल सरकार सुरक्षा के नाम पर इस बांध के स्थान पर नया बांध बनाना चाहती है।
उधर, केरल सरकार ने आज राज्य उच्च न्यायालय में अर्जी लगाई कि मुल्लपेरियार बांध के अचानक टूटने से पानी के बहाव वाले क्षेत्र में ४० लाख से अधिक लोगों को जान-माल की हानि उठानी पड़ेगी।

सब्जियों, प्याज, आलू और गेहूं जैसे उत्पादों के मूल्य में गिरावट के चलते तीन दिसंबर को समाप्त सप्ताह के दौरान खाद्य मुद्रास्फीति की दर लगभग चार वर्षों के न्यूनतम स्तर चार दशमलव तीन पांच प्रतिशत, पर आ गई। इससे पिछले सप्ताह ये छह दशमलव छह प्रतिशत थी। थोक मूल्यों पर आधारित खाद्य मुद्रास्फीति पिछले वर्ष के इसी सप्ताह में दस दशमलव सात आठ प्रतिशत थी।----

झारखंड उच्च न्यायालय ने, चार संदिग्ध माओवादियों को दी गई मौत की सजा पर रोक लगा दी है। गिरिडीह जिला अदालत ने २००७ में जिले के चिलकारी गांव में पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री बाबूलाल मरांडी के बेटे अनूप मरांडी सहित उन्नीस लोगों की हत्या के आरोप में मौत की सजा सुनाई थी।2100 HRS.

West Bengal government has ordered a CID probe, as the toll mounted to 143 in yesterday’s liquor tragedy in south 24 Paraganas district. More than 50 persons have been admitted into different hospitals. We spoke to the Superintendent of police 24 south pargana Laxminarayan Meena.

"92 has been admitted in the hospital. Their conation is stable and we are conducting raids against the culprits. Till now we have arrest 10 persons and further raids are goingon."
Announcing the probe in the State Assembly today Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee said that ten persons have been arrested in connection with the incident so far. But the owner of the liquor Den named in the FIR is still absconding. Our correspondent reports that the state government has called an all party meeting on 19th of this month to find out ways and means against the menace of illicit liquor. It had already announced 2 lakh rupees compensation to the next of kin of the victims. Minister of state for Information and Broadcasting C.M Jatua visited the hospitals to see the patients .A left party delegation also visited the Sangrampur area of south 24 paraganas district where the incident took place .

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh arrived at the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow this evening. He is in Moscow to attend the 12th Indo-Russia Annual Summit tomorrow at the invitation of President Dmitry Medvedev. Dr. Manmohan Singh was received at the airport by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister A N Borodavkin and given a ceremonial welcome. Official sources on board the Prime Minister’s aircraft told AIR Special Correspondent that besides bilateral talks the Indian and Russian leadership would be exploring new pathways of co-operation in the face of uncertainties in the functioning of the global economy.

Karnataka High Court has ordered interim stay on investigation by Lokayukta police against External Affairs Minister S.M Krishna in the alleged illegal mining case. Justice B.B Pinto issued the order after hearing arguments by senior counsel , who appeared for S.M Krishna. Krishna had appealed in the High Court against a private complaint lodged by a Social Activist , who had alleged in his complaint that during his Tenure as Chief Minister between 1999 and 2004, S.M Krishna was responsible for de-reservation of forest for mining purpose causing loss to the state. The court has asked the respondent named Abraham to make a submission on January 6.

The Supreme Court has refrained from making an appeal to the Prime Minister for his intervention to solve the vexed Mullaiperiyar dam row as sought by Kerala Government. A five-judge Constitution Bench took the decision after Tamil Nadu objected to it on the ground that the apex court-appointed empowered committee's report is awaited.
The apex court, however, recorded an affidavit from Kerala that it will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of Mullaperiyar dam, other installations and properties of Tamil Nadu in the state from any form of vandalism. Centre's senior counsel Ashok Bhan also assured the apex court that central forces can be deployed at the dam site provided Kerala granted permission or if there is any order from the bench to the effect. Meanwhile Tamil Nadu Assembly today passed a unanimous resolution reasserting the state's right over the 116-year old dam, which Kerala wants to be demolished to build a new one on safety concerns.

Opposition today targeted Home Minister P Chidambaram over a media report on the withdrawal of three FIRs against a Delhi-based hotelier.This led to the disruption in proceedings in the two houses. They accused the Home Minister of misusing his official position to help a former client.The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after repeated adjournments as noisy scenes were witnessed with oppossition BJP members demanding action against the Home Minister.

Congress today said that government is doing its best to bring a strong Lokpal Bill at the earliest. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party spokesman Manish Tewari said that no bill has been taken up with such a pace in the recent past as Lokpal. He advised Team Anna to keep patience as government is reconciling various divergent views from different stakeholders. BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said that government should pass a strong and effective Lokpal Bill in the winter session itself.

Food inflation fell to a nearly 4-year low of 4.35 per cent during the week ended December 3, from 6.6 per cent in the previous week. The fall reflected a decline in prices of items like vegetables, onions, potatoes and wheat. Food inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index, had stood at 10.78 per cent in the corresponding week last year.

The Reserve Bank today swung into action to check slide in rupee value against dollar and speculations. It has imposed restrictions with immediate effect on forward trading in the local currency by Foreign Institutional Investors and traders and capped banks exposure to the forex market. The Reserve Bank has also decided to withdraw the facility of re-booking forex contracts by companies and reduced across-the board exposure limits of banks which are authorised to deal in the foreign currency.

In Jharkhand, large numbers of crows are dying because of ‘bird flu’ and the state government is planning better safety steps to meet the challenge. Speaking to reporters at Ranchi, state Animal Husbandry Minister Satya Nand Jha said that Central government Lab in Bhopal-High Security Animal Disease Laboratory has now confirmed that the cause of the large number of death is due to H5N1 virus, which is commonly known as bird flue. The bird section of the zoos in the state are closed for safety reasons. Speaking to reporters at Ranchi today, Chief Forest Conservator A K Gupta said that apart from confining the birds in the zoos, other steps are also taken to ensure safety of the birds.
