• भारत ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र से समुद्री डकैती की चुनौती से निपटने के व्यापक उपाय ढूंढने की पहल करने का आग्रह किया। प्रधानमंत्री ने इथियोपिया की संसद के संयुक्त अधिवेशन को सम्बोधित किया।
• डेविड हेडली ने शिकागो की अदालत को बताया कि पाकिस्तान की खुफिया एजेंसी आई एस आई ने मुम्बई हमलों से पहले उसे जासूसी का विशेष प्रशिक्षण दिया।
• अमरीका का कहना है कि बलूचिस्तान सूबे के अलगाववादी आंदोलन की वजह भारत नहीं, पाकिस्तान की अपनी घरेलू नीतियां हैं।

 भारत ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र से कहा है कि लालसागर और सोमालिया के पास समुद्री डकैती की समस्या से निपटने के लिए मिलकर व्यापक प्रयास शुरू किये जाएं, ताकि समुद्र के रास्ते सुचारू रूप से व्यापार हो सके। प्र्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय को सोमालिया में स्थिरता बहाल करने के प्रयास जारी रखने चाहिए।
 आज इथियोपिया की संसद के दोनों सदनों की संयुक्त बैठक को संबोधित करते हुए डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि भारत और अफ्रीका  को सभी लोगों विशेष रूप से विकासशील देशों के करोड़ों लोगों के  हितों के लिए एक-दूसरे के साथ मिलकर काम करना चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत-अफ्रीका को विकास के मार्ग में अपना स्वाभाविक सहयोगी और भागीदार मानता है।

भारत अफ्रीका का बहुत आभारी है, क्योंकि यहीं पर महात्मा गांधी ने यहीं अपनी राजनीतिक और अध्यात्मिक जागृति का अनुभव किया था। अफ्रीका की धरती पर ही उन्होंने पहली बार अंहिसा और सत्याग्रह के अपने दर्शन का प्रयोग किया, जिसने उस समय की साम्राज्यवादी शक्तियों को हिला कर रख दिया। भारत और अफ्रीका के स्वाधीनता संग्राम के दौरान हमारे नेताओं का आपसी सहयोग हमारे साझा इतिहास का एक स्वर्णिम अध्याय है।
 कृषि उत्पादो की कीमतों में उतार-चढाव पर चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि जी-२० देशों ने बाजारों पर नजर रखने और इनके नियमन के लिए कई उपाय कियें है॥ जलवायु परिवर्तन के बारे में प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि धनी देशो को विशेष प्रयास करने होंगे।

हमें अपनी समृद्ध जैव-विविधता और पारंपरिक ज्ञान का संरक्षण करना चाहिए। यह जरूरी है कि अमीर देश जलवायु परिवर्तन के आर्थिक बोझ को साझा करे, शोध और विकास कार्यों में हिस्सा लें और तकनीक के हस्तांतरण को बढ़ावा दें, ताकि हरित विकास सुनिश्चित हो सकें।
 प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि पश्चिम एशिया और उत्तरी अफ्रीका मे परिवर्तन की लहर चल रही है और भारत का मानना है कि सभी लोगों को अपना भविष्य तय करने और विकास का अपना रास्ता चुनने का पूरा अधिकार है। डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने अफ्रीका को उसके विकास कार्यो के लिए भारत द्वारा दिये जा रहे आर्थिक पैकेजों तथा तकनीकी और आर्थिक सहयोग कार्यक्रमों की विस्तार से चर्चा की।

 प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह तंजानिया की तीन दिन की सरकारी यात्रा पर आज शाम दारेसलाम पंहुचेंगे। वहां वे तंजानिया के राष्ट्रपति जकाया म्रिशो किकवेते ;श्रांंलं डतपेीव ज्ञपाूमजमद्ध के साथ बातचीत करेंगे। दोनों ही देशों के बीच आपसी हित वाले कुछ समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर भी किए जायेंगे। प्रधानमंत्री, दारेसलाम सी-डेक द्वारा लगाये गये ए-सुपर कम्पयूटर का भी शुभारम्भ करेंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि वहां का भारतीय समुदाय, प्रधानमंत्री की यात्रा की उत्सुकता से प्रतीक्षा कर रहा है।

तंजानिया में कृषि, खनन और व्यापार से लेकर समाजिक क्षेत्रों तक में भारत और भारतीयों की सशक्त उपस्थिति देखी जा सकती है। भारत न केवल तंजानिया में दूसरो सबसे बड़ा निवेशक देश है, बल्कि यहां शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य और सामाजिक क्षेत्र में भी भारतीय सहयोग से कई परियोजनाएं चल रही है। दोनों देशों के बीच व्यापार जहां, एक अरब डॉलर को पार कर चुका है, वहीं कृषि, सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी और टेलीकॉम में भारतीय कंपनियों की सक्रिय भागीदारी है। तंजानिया में भारतीय उच्चायुक्त के.वी. भागीरथ के अनुसार प्रधानमंत्री की तंजानिया के शीर्ष नेतृत्व के साथ वार्ता में आतंकवाद और समुद्री डाकुओं जैसी दोनों देशों की साझा समस्याओं पर चर्चा होगी। तंजानिया में रह रहे करीब ४० हजार भारतीयों को प्रधानमंत्री की इस यात्रा से काफी उम्मीदें है और उनका मानना है कि उद्योग और व्यापार के क्षेत्र को इस यात्रा से नए आयाम मिलेंगे। अनुराग वाजपेयी, आकाशवाणी समाचार, दारेस्लाम।

 पाकिस्तान की खुफिया एजेसी आई एस आई ने २६ नवम्बर के मुंबई हमलों के अभियुक्त डेविड हेडली को हमलों से पहले जासूसी करने का विशेष प्रशिक्षण दिया था। लश्करे तैयबा के आतंकवादी हेडली ने शिकागो की अदालत में यह जानकारी दी। इन हमलों के एक और पाकिस्तानी मूल के अभियुक्त कनेडियाई नागरिक तहव्वुर राणा पर मुकदमे के दौरान बचाव पक्ष के वकील चार्ल्स डी० स्विफ्ट हेडली से जिरह कर रहे थे। हेडली ने कहा कि पाकिस्तानी खुफिया एजेंसी की तरफ से यह प्रशिक्षण उसे मेजर इकबाल ने दिया, जो आई एस आई में उसका संपर्क सूत्र और आका था। यह प्रशिक्षण उसे लाहौर में हवाई अड्डे के निकट सड़कों और एक दो मंजिला मकान में दिया गया।
 हेडली ने अदालत को बताया कि जब २००६ में वह मेजर इकबाल से मिला तो उसने लश्करे तैयबा द्वारा उसे दिये गये जासूसी और सैन्य प्रशिक्षण पर अंसतोष व्यक्त किया था। मेजर इकबाल ने हेडली से कहा कि लश्करे तैयबा से उसे जो प्रशिक्षण मिला है, वह बहुत अच्छा और पर्याप्त नहीं है इसलिए उसने हेडली को और प्रशिक्षण देने का फैसला किया।
 हेडली के इन खुलासों से भारत के यह आरोप और पुख्ता होते है कि मुंबई आतंकी हमलों में आई एस आई का हाथ था और ये खुलासे संघीय अभियोजनकर्ताओं द्वारा अदालत में पेश दस्तावेज+ों में दी गई जानकारी से मेल खाते हैं।
  बार-बार पूछे जाने के बावजूद हेडली ने कहा कि उसे मेजर इकबाल का पूरा नाम नहीं पता, लेकिन उसे पक्का पता है कि वह आई एस आई का था। हेडली ने कहा कि उसकी मुलाकात मेजर इकबाल से इसी नाम के साथ करायी गई थी। हेडली ने कहा कि मेजर इकबाल कभी भी सैनिक वर्दी में उसके सामने नहीं आया, लेकिन कई बार वो उससे मिलने सैनिक जीप में आया और उसके सहकर्मी सैनिक रैंक के थे।
 नये दस्तावेज के अनुसार फरवरी २००२ में हेडली ने लश्करे तैयबा की तरफ से पाकिस्तान में प्रशिक्षण शिविरों में हिस्सा लेना शुरू किया था।

 अमरीका सरकार ने भारत द्वारा पाकिस्तान को पचास वांछित आतंकवादियों की सूची सौेपे जाने का समर्थन किया है। अमरीका के सहायक विदेश मंत्री रॉबर्ट ब्लेक ने कहा कि यह पाकिस्तान द्वारा किये जाने वाले उपायों के बारे में दोनों देशों के बीच जारी वार्ता का हिस्सा है। उन्होंने कहा कि इन वांंिछत अपराधियों की सूची में अमरीका की कोई भूमिका नहीं थी।
 श्री ब्लेक ने यह भी कहा कि पाकिस्तान के ब्लूचिस्तान सूबे में अलगाववादी आंदोलन को भारत ने नहीं बल्कि पाकिस्तान की अपनी घरेलू नीतियों ने हवा दी है। उन्होंने कहा कि ब्लूचिस्तान में आतंकवादी या अलगाववादी आंदोलन को भारत से किसी भी तरह की आर्थिक या कोई और सहायता नही ंमिली। भारत ब्लूचिस्तान के विद्रोहियों को समर्थन देने के पाकिस्तान के आरोपों का स्पष्ट रूप से खंडन कर चुका है।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने पूर्व क्रिकेट कप्तान सौरव गांगुली को पश्चिम बंगाल में दी गई ६३ एकड़ जमीन का आवंटन रद्द कर दिया है। यह जमीन तत्कालीन वाम मोर्चा सरकार ने उन्हें वर्ष २००० में कोलकाता के सॉल्ट लेक इलाके में क्रिकेट अकादमी बनाने के लिए दी थी। न्यायमूर्ति ए० के० गांगुली की अध्यक्षता में न्यायालय की पीठ ने जमीन आवंटन में सही प्रक्रिया न अपनाने के कारण इस फैसले को रद्द कर दिया। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने सौरव गांगुली को दो हफ्‌ते के भीतर राज्य सरकार को जमीन लौटाने का आदेश दिया है। जमीन आवंटन के खिलाफ एक गैर सरकारी संगठन ने न्यायालय में याचिका दायर की थी। संगठन ने याचिका में कहा था कि कॉलेज के लिए निर्धरित यह जमीन अवैध तरीके से गांगुली को दे दी गई।

दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने टूजी स्पेक्ट्रम मामले में सिनेयुग फिल्म्‌स के निदेशक करीम मोरानी की जमानत अर्जी पर अपना फैसला सुरक्षित रखा है। बहस के दौरान सीबीआई के वकील ए.के. सिंह ने कहा कि मोरानी ने डी.बी. रियल्टी से कलईंग्नार टेलीविजन के दो सौ करोड़ रूपये के लेनदेन में मदद की थी। कलईंग्नार टीवी में डीएमके सांसद कनिमोरी का २० प्रतिशत हिस्सा है। सीबीआई ने कहा कि मोरानी ने इस लेनदेन के बदले छह करोड़ रूपये लिये।
मोरानी के वकील सिद्धार्थ लूथरा ने कहा कि सीबीआई को जमानत का विरोध नहीं करना चाहिये, क्योंकि उसने जांच के दौरान मोरानी को गिरफ्तार नही किया था। उन्होंने कहा कि मोरानी का आरोपी सरकारी कर्मचारियों से कोई संबंध नही है। मोरानी ने अग्रिम जमानत की अर्जी खारिज होने और अदालत के सामने उपस्थित होने के निर्देश के बाद २४ मई को जमानत की अर्जी दाखिल की थी।
 सीबीआई ने अपने दूसरे आरोप पत्र में स्वान टेलीकॉम एण्ड डॉयनामिक्स रियल्टी के प्रोमोटर्स शाहिद उस्मान बलवा और विनोद गोयनका पर आरोप लगाया है कि डीएमके द्वारा संचालित कलईंग्नार टेलीविजन को कुसेगांव फू्रट्स एण्ड वेजिटेबल प्राईवेट लिमिटेड और मोरानी की सिनेयुग फिल्म्‌स प्राईवेट लिमिटेड के जरिये दो सौ करोड़ रूपये दिए गये।
 इससे पहले अदालत ने मोरानी की मेडिकल आधार पर अग्रिम जमानत की अर्जी खारिज कर दी थी। मुम्बई के जे.जे. अस्पताल की रिपोर्ट में उसकी हालत स्थिर और सामान्य बताई गई थी।

 पंचकुला की एक अदालत ने समझौता एक्सप्रैस विस्फोट मामले में आरोपी असीमानंद की न्यायिक हिरासत अगले महीने की ७ तारीख तक बढ़ा दी है। राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी ने अदालत को विश्वास दिलाया कि वह अगली सुनवाई पर आरोप पत्र दाखिल कर देगी। अदालत की यह सुनवाई विडियो कॉन्फ्रेंस के जरिये की गई। असीमानंद अंबाला की सेन्ट्रल जेल में बंद है।
 असीमानंद की जमानत अर्जी सत्र अदालत ने इस महीने की १२ तारीख को खारिज कर दी थी। उसने इस बात का खंडन किया है कि वह समझौता एक्सप्रेस विस्फोट कांड में शामिल था।
पानीपत के दिवाना गांव में समझौता एक्सप्रेस में हुए विस्फोट में ६८ लोग मारे गये थे, जिनमें अधिकांश पाकिस्तानी थे।
इससे पहले सात मई को जयपुर में सीबीआई अदालत ने २००७ में अजमेर दरगाह विस्फोट मामले में असीमानंद की जमानत अर्जी खारिज कर दी थी।

महाराष्ट्र के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री सुशील कुमार शिंदे ने आदर्श सोसायटी घोटाला जांच आयोग के सामने आज हलफनामा दायर किया। इस हलफनामे में श्री शिंदे ने कहा है कि जिस जमीन पर विवादास्पद आदर्श हाऊसिंग सोसायटी खड़ी है, वह राज्य सरकार की ज+मीन है। उन्होंने कहा कि ये भूखंड रक्षा कर्मियों या करगिल युद्ध के शहीदों के परिवारों के लिए आरक्षित नहीं था। अपने हलफनामे में श्री शिंदे ने कहा है कि मई २०.०३ से नवम्बर २००४ तक उनके मुख्यमंत्री पद पर रहने के दौरान उन्हें आदर्श सोसायटी को भूमि के आंवटन में किसी तरह की अनियमितताओं के बारे में कोई शिकायत नहीं मिली थी। उन्होंने कहा कि यह जमीन तटवर्ती नियमन क्षेत्र-दो के अंतर्गत आती है। श्री शिंदे ने कहा कि उनके कार्यकाल के दौरान उनके सामने मंजिलें या इमारत की ऊंचाई बढ़ाने या पर्यावरण संबंधी मंजूरी के बारे में कोई मुद्दा नहीं आया।
 इस बीच, आदर्श घोटाला जांच आयोग ने महाराष्ट्र के एक अन्य पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री अशोक चव्हाण को अपना हलफनामा १३ जून तक दायर करने की अनुमति दे दी है, क्योंकि वे शहर से बाहर हैं महाराष्ट्र के जल संसाधन मंत्री सुनील तातकरे आज आयोग के सामने अपना हलफनामा दायर करेंगे।
 इससे पहले, कल आयोग ने एक अन्य पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री विलासराव देशमुख को भी अपना हलफनामा दायर करने के लिए नौ जून तक का समय दिया था।

 राष्ट्रीय सलाहकार परिषद ने सरकार को गरीबों की पहचान के नये सर्वेक्षण की अनुमति दे दी है। समझा जाता है कि श्रीमती सोनिया गांधी की अध्यक्षता वाली परिषद ने गरीबों की संख्या का पता लगाने के सरकार के तौर तरीकों को स्वीकार कर लिया है। इन तरीकों से अनुसूचित जाति और जनजाति के ६६ प्रतिशत परिवारों के गरीबों की श्रेणी में आने की संभावना है। इस काम के लिए त्रि-आयामी नीति बनायी गई है, जिसमें सम्पन्न परिवार स्वतः ही गरीबों की श्रेणी से अलग हो जाएगे और विपन्न परिवार शामिल हो जाएंगे और इसके अलावा गरीबों की पहचान के लिए सात मानक तय किये गये है।

 खाद्य पदार्थों की मुद्रास्फीति एक दशमलव शून्य आठ प्रतिशत बढ़+कर  आठ दशमलव पांच पांच प्रतिशत हो गई है। १४ मई को समाप्त हुये सप्ताह में फल, अनाज और प्रोटीनयुक्त वस्तुओं के दाम में बढ़ोतरी हुई। थोक मूल्य सूचकांक पर आधरित मुद्रास्फीति की यह दर पिछले तीन सप्ताहों से लगातार गिर रही थी।
 फलों के दाम ३२ दशमलव तीन सात प्रतिशत, दूध पांच दशमलव पांच तीन प्रतिशत तथा अण्डा, मांस और मछली के दाम आठ दशमलव दो छह प्रतिशत बढ़े। चावल के मूल्य में भी दो दशमलव छह तीन प्रतिशत की बढ़ोतरी हुई। आलू का दाम भी वार्षिक आधार पर दशमलव एक सात प्रतिशत बढ़ा।
 सब्जी के मूल्य में एक दशमलव चार छह प्रतिशत और दालों में नौ दशमलव चार नौ प्रतिशत की गिरावट दर्ज हुई। गेंहू भी वार्षिक आधार पर दशमलव तीन प्रतिशत सस्ता हुआ। प्राथमिक वस्तुओं की श्रेणी में वार्षिक आधार पर मुद्रास्फीति की दर ग्यारह दशमलव छह प्रतिशत रही। दूसरी तरफ अखाद्य प्राथमिक वस्तुओं के दाम २३ दशमलव दो दो प्रतिशत बढ़े। फाइबर ६१ प्रतिशत और खनिजों के दाम ग्यारह दशमलव सात आठ प्रतिशत बढ़े।

 बम्बई शेयर बाजार के सेन्सेक्स आज शुरूआती कारोबार में १३७ की वृद्धि हुई। कल यह १६४ अंक की गिरावट के साथ बंद हुआ था। अब से कुछ देर पहले यह १०७ अंक की वृद्धि के साथ १७ हजार ९५४ पर था।
 नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी ३१ अंक बढ़कर ५ हजार ३८० पर है।
 अन्तरबैंक विदेशी मुद्राबाजार में डॉलर के मुकाबले रूपये की कीमत में ४ पैसे की वृद्धि हुई। एक डॉलर की कीमत ४५ रूपये २८ पैसे बोली गयी।
 उधर एशियाई बाजारों में आज कच्चे तेल के भाव फिर बढ़े। जुलाई की डिलीवरी के लिए न्यूयॉर्क का लाइट स्वीट क्रूड ३६ सेंट महंगा होकर १०१ डॉलर ६८ सेंट प्रति बैरल हो गया। लंदन के ब्रेंट नॉर्थ सी क्रूड की कीमत में ३० सेंट की वृद्धि हुई और एक बैरल ११५ डॉलर २३ सेंट का हो गया।

 भारत ने जोर दिया है किसी भी विश्व संस्था के प्रमुख की नियुक्ति के मामले में उभरती अर्थव्यवस्था वाले देशों की आवाज सुनी जानी चाहिए। नई दिल्ली में वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा कि अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष के प्रबंध निदेशक की नियुक्ति में विकासशील देशों की उम्मीदवारी मजबूत हो रही है। अमरीका में एक महिला के साथ बलात्कार के प्रयास के आरोपी डॉमिनिक स्ट्रॉस कान के इस्तीफे के बाद अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष के प्रमुख का पद खाली हो गया है। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि वे उभरती अर्थव्यवस्था वाले देशों के वित्तमंत्रियों के सम्पर्क में है।
 ब्राजील, रूस, भारत, चीन और दक्षिणी अफ्रीका के संगठन ब्रिक्स ने एक संयुक्त बयान में पहले ही अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष के प्रमुख की नियुक्ति यूरोप से ही किए जाने का विरोध किया है। संगठन ने कहा है कि राष्ट्रीयता पर आधारित इस तरह की धारणा से अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्रा कोष की वैधानिकता कम होती है।
 इस बीच, फ्रांस की वित्तमंत्री क्रिस्टीन लार्गाद ने दस जून की अंतिम तिथि से पहले ही अपनी उम्मीदवारी की घोषणा कर दी है। उनको यूरोपीय देशों का समर्थन प्राप्त  है। इन देशों को अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्राकोष में ज्यादा मताधिकार हासिल है।

 मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय ने केन्द्र और राज्य सरकारों से कहा है कि वे तमिलनाडु  के तटवर्ती समुद्र से भटक कर श्रीलंका के जल क्षेत्र में गये, भारतीय मछुआरों की रक्षा के लिए एक तंत्र स्थापित करे। न्यायमूर्ति एस.राजेश्वरन्‌ और के.बी.के वासुकी की खंडपीठ ने जनहित याचिका पर सुनवाई के दौरान यह आदेश दिया।
 याचिका में कहा गया है कि भारत-श्रीलंका अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय जल क्षेत्र में जाते हुए भारतीय मछुआरे भयभीत रहते है, इससे उनके जीविकोपार्जन के अधिकार का हनन होता है। समस्या के समाधान के लिए तमिलनाडु के तटवर्ती जल क्षेत्र में स्वचालित पहचान प्रणाली केन्द्र स्थापित किये जाने का सुझाव दिया गया है।

 नागर विमानन महानिदेशालय ने एक छोटे एम्बुलेंस विमान के     फरीदाबाद के रिहायशी इलाके में गिर जाने की जांच शुरू कर दी है। निदेशालय का छह सदस्यीय दल दुर्घटनास्थल का दौरा कर रहा है।  यह दल विमान के मलबे सहित ऐसी सभी वस्तुओं को अपने कब्जे में लेगा जिन्हें सबूत के तौर पर पेश किया जा सकता है और बाद में जांच अदालत गठित होने पर उसे सौंप देगा।
 कल रात १० बजकर ३५ मिनट पर फरीदाबाद में वायुसेना स्टेशन के पास जवाहर नगर इलाके में इस विमान के गिरने से मकान में रहने वाले तीन लोगों सहित १० लोग मारे गये थे। इस विमान में गम्भीर रूप से बीमार एक व्यक्ति को इलाज के लिए पटना से दिल्ली लाया जा रहा था।
 हरियाणा सरकार ने दुर्घटना  में मृत महिलाओं के परिजनों को दो-दो लाख रूपये की अनुग्रह राशि देने की घोषणा की है। क्षतिग्रस्त मकानों की मरम्मत के लिए मुआवजा भी दिया जाएगा।

अहमदाबाद से मुम्बई जा रहे किंगफिशर के विमान को आज अहमदाबाद के सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल हवाई अड्डे पर एक पक्षी के टकरा जाने के कारण उतारना पड़ा। भारतीय हवाई अड्डा प्राधिकरण के एक अधिकारी के अनुसार किंगफिशर की उड़ान संख्या- आई टी - ३१७२ को उड़ान भरने के कुछ मिनट बाद ही उतारना पड़ा। इस विमान के यात्रियों को मुम्बई जा रही अन्य उड़ानों से भेजा गया।

 तमिलनाडु में सत्ताधारी ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डीएमके पार्टी के श्री डी. जयकुमार ने विधानसभा अध्यक्ष और श्री पी. धनपाल ने उपाध्यक्ष के लिए नामांकन भरा है। श्री डी. जयकुमार को पार्टी प्रमुख जयललिता ने विधानसभा अध्यक्ष पद के लिए नामाकित किया है। वे रॉयापुरम से चार बार  चुने गये और पार्टी के शासनकाल में मंत्री भी रह चुके है। उपाध्यक्ष पद के लिए पार्टी के उम्मीदवार पी. धनपाल भी विधानसभा के लिए चार बार चुने गये है और एम.जी. रामचन्द्रन के शासनकाल में मंत्री रह चुके है।

 आंध्र प्रदेश में तेलुगूदेशम पार्टी-टीडीपी ने पार्टी पोलित ब्यूरो के सदस्य नगम जनार्दन रेड्डी को पार्टी विरोधी गतिविधियों के कारण निलंबित कर दिया। कल देर रात टीडीपी पोलित ब्यूरो की बैठक में इस आशय का फैसला लिया। नागरकुरनूल विधानसभा सीट से चुने गये श्री जनार्दन रेड्डी पिछले कुछ दिनों से तेलगांना समर्थित कार्यक्रमों में खुलकर हिस्सा ले रहे थे। वे टीडीपी सरकार में १२ साल तक मंत्री भी रहे। टीडीपी में पहली बार ऐसा हुआ है कि पोलित ब्यूरो के किसी सदस्य को बिना कारण बताओ नोटिस दिये निलंबित कर दिया गया।

बिहार में पूर्व मंत्री और भाजपा विधायक रामाधार प्रसाद सिंह को १४ दिन की न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया है। औरंगाबाद की अदालत ने उनकी जमानत याचिका खारिज कर दी। इससे पहले, श्री रामाधार प्रसाद सिंह ने अदालत के सामने आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया। उनके खिलाफ गैर जमानती वारंट जारी किया गया था। अदालत ने उन्हें १९९५ में भगोड़ा घोषित कर दिया था। हमारे पटना संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि रामाधार प्रसाद सिंह को इस महीने की १८ तारीख को मंत्रिपद से इस्तीफा देना पड़ा था।

 जम्मू कश्मीर सरकार राज्य के वरिष्ठ नागरिकों के समन्वित विकास के लिए एक विशेष कोष बनाने पर विचार कर रही है। राज्य की समाज कल्याण मंत्री सकीना इतू ने राज्य स्तर की सलाहकार परिषद की पहली बैठक की अध्यक्षता करते हुए यह जानकारी दी। उन्होंने कहा कि वृद्धों की बढ़ती आबादी को देखते हुए यह कोष बनाने का फैसला किया गया है। सुश्री सकीना ने कहा कि इस कोष के लिए धन जुटाने और अन्य तौर-तरीकों पर विचार करने के लिए एक समिति बनाई जा रही है। उन्होंने बताया कि राज्य सरकार महिलाओं से संबंधित कार्यक्रम तैयार करने और उन्हें लागू करने के लिए महिला सलाहकार बोर्ड को स+क्रिय करेगी। सुश्री सकीना ने कहा कि राज्य में महिलाओं के हितों की रक्षा के लिए महिला आयोग पहले से ही काम कर रहा है लेकिन इसे मज+बूत करने और इसकी गतिविधियों का दायरा बढ़ाने की जरूरत है।

 उच्चतम न्यायालय ने केन्द्रीय माध्यमिक शिक्षा बोर्ड की अखिल भारतीय इंजीनियरी प्रवेश परीक्षा को फिर से कराने की याचिका खारिज कर दी है। न्यायमूर्ति जी.एस.सिंघवी और सी.के. प्रसाद की खंडपीठ ने कुछ विद्यार्थियों की याचिका को खारिज कर दिया, जो दोबारा निर्धारित की गई परीक्षा में शामिल नहीं हो पाये थे। अदालत ने परीक्षा प्रक्रिया में हस्तक्षेप करने से इंकार कर दिया और कहा कि करीब दस लाख विद्यार्थी इस परीक्षा में शामिल हुये थे और इसे फिर से कराने में उनको परेशानी होगी।
 एक मई को अखिल भारतीय इंजीनियरी प्रवेश परीक्षा का प्रश्न पत्र लीक होने के कारण रद्द होने से इसमें शामिल न हो सके विद्यार्थियों के लिए दोबारा परीक्षा कराई गई थी।

 सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री श्रीमती अम्बिका सोनी ने कहा है कि उनके मंत्रालय का दूरदर्शन की डायरेक्ट टू होम सर्विस के लिए दो सौ चैनल का पैकेज देने का प्रस्ताव है। श्रीमती सोनी ने कहा कि लोक प्रसारण सेवा के लिए सरकार का एक अरब रूपये का निवेश करने का प्रस्ताव है। उन्होंने कल नई दिल्ली में ३२ श्रेणियों में दूरदर्शन पुरस्कार प्रदान करते हुए यह घोषणा की।

 देश में  पोलियो के मामलों में उल्लेखनीय कमी हुई है। नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों से बातचीत में केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य मंत्री गुलाम नवी आजाद ने बताया कि पिछले वर्ष पोलियों के बयालीस मामलों के मुकाबले इस वर्ष के पहले पांच महीनों में सिर्फ एक मामला सामने आया है। उन्होंने कहा कि उनका मंत्रालय टीकाकरण कार्यक्रम को सुचारू बना रहा है। इस कार्यक्रम के लिए पूरी सहायता, केन्द्र सरकार देती है।
 श्री आजाद ने बताया कि केंद्र ने सभी राज्यों से कहा है कि वह सरकारी स्वास्थ्य संस्थानों में गर्भवती महिलाओं को प्रसव की निशुल्क सेवायें उपलब्ध करायें।  उन्होंने कहा कि पिछले दो वर्षों में यूपीए सरकार ने कई नये प्रयास किये हैं। स्वास्थ्य मंत्री ने बताया कि केंद्र राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन के तहत दवाओं ओर विभिन्न सेवाओं के लिए राज्यों को शत-प्रतिशत वित्तीय सहायता उपलब्ध करा रहा है।

 मौसम विभाग ने कहा है कि दक्षिण पच्च्िचम मॉनसून के अगले तीन दिन में दक्षिण अंडमान तक पहुंच जाने की उम्मीद है। इस बार मॉनसून एक हफ्ते की देरी से आ रहा है। वैज्ञानिकों का मानना है कि इस देरी का केरल पर कोई असर नहीं पड़ेगा। मौसम विभाग के एक अधिकारी ने बताया कि केरल में इसी महीने की ३१ तारीख तक मॉनसून पहुंच जाने की संभावना है। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि उत्तरी बंगाल की खाड़ी में कम दबाव बनना शुरू हो गया है, जिससे मॉनसून के बेहतर रहने की उम्मीद है।

India today made a strong pitch to the United Nations to take the lead in evolving a comprehensive response to the threat of international piracy in the Red Sea and off the coast of Somalia to ensure unhindered maritime trade. Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh said, the international community should continue with its effort to restore stability in Somalia. Addressing the joint session of two  Houses of Ethiopian parliament, Dr.Manmohan Singh has said India and Africa have to work together to make global Inter dependence work for the benefit of all  people.

Dr.Singh said India sees Africa as a natural partner in its growing engagement in the world.  Referring to the historic ties, the Prime Minister said India owes the debt of deep gratitude to Africa for it was here that Mahatma Gandhi experienced his political and spiritual awakening.

Expressing concern over the prices of many agricultural commodities remaining volatile he said, G-20 countries have taken the initiative of supporting work on regulation and supervision of commodity derivative markets.   On climate change, Prime Minister said it is essential for rich countries to share financial burden of combating climate change.

Pointing out that wind of change are blowing in West Asia  and North Africa, he said India believes it is the right of all people to determine their own destiny and choose their own part of development.  Dr.Singh dwelt at length on the financial packages and its technical and economic cooperation  programmes offered to Africa to help the continent in reaching  its development goals.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will today reach Dar-es-Salaam on  a three day state visit to Tanzania. Prime Minister will hold talks with the President of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and some agreements of mutual interest would be signed during his visit. Prime Minister will also inaugurate A  super computer installed by C-Dec in Dar-es-Salaam. Our correspondent reports that Indian community is eagerly waiting for Prime Minister's visit.

Pakistan's spy agency ISI provided special surveillance training to Mumbai attacks accused David Headley  ahead of the 26/11 carnage. Headley who belongs to Lashkar-e-Taiba told this to a Chicago court when he was grilled by the defence attorney Charles D Swift on the third day of the trial today of Pakistani-Canadian Tahawwur Rana.  Rana is another co-accused in the 26/11 attacks. The 50-year-old Mumbai terror accused told jury during the course of questioning by Swift that the training by the Pakistan intelligence agency to Headley was provided by Major Iqbal, who was his ISI handler, on the streets and in a two-storey safe house in Lahore near the airport. Headley told the court that when he met Major Iqbal in 2006, he expressed dissatisfaction at the military and espionage training that he had received from the LeT earlier. Major Iqbal, who was identified by Headley as 'Chaudhery Khan', told him that the training received from LeT was not very good and was very elementary, so he decided to give instructions to him. The statements formed part of the testimony of Headley, who has pleaded guilty. These disclosures, which further cements India's charges that elements of ISI were involved in the 26/11, is also corroborated by information given by federal prosecutors in the documents to the court, which have been unsealed. Despite repeated questioning, Headley said that he did not know the full name of Major Iqbal, but was sure that he was from the ISI. He was introduced to him as Major Iqbal.

Washington today said that the separatist movement in Pakistan's Balochistan province is fuelled by the country's domestic policies and not India. US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake said in his interaction with Defense Writers Group  in Washington that  the existence of a terrorist or a separatist movement in Balochistan is not fuelled by Indian financing or anything like that but by domestic issues that are internal to Pakistan. India, has been categorically denying Pakistan's allegations of supporting the rebels in Balochistan.

The Obama Administration today supported India's move to hand over the list of its 50 most wanted fugitives to Pakistan. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake said this is a part of the ongoing dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad  about steps that Pakistan can take to again reduce the threat from Pakistan based terrorists against India. He denied any coordination by Washington on the list of fugitives. He said, Pakistan has not fully resolved many of the Indian concerns and lauded New Delhi's decision to hold talks with Islamabad.

The Supreme Court has quashed the land allotment to cricketer Sourav Ganguly by West Bengal Government in 2000. Quashing the allotment of 63.04 'katha' land in the posh Salt Lake city, a bench headed by Justice A K Ganguly directed the cricketer to surrender the land within two weeks. The court passed the order on a petition filed by a West Bengal-based NGO, Humanity and others, challenging the Calcutta High Court's order which had upheld the state government's decision of allotting the land to Ganguly. Allowing the appeal of NGO, the bench quashed the allotment and also directed the government to refund the money paid by Ganguly for the land. The NGO had alleged that the land was illegally allotted to Ganguly as it was earmarked for a college.

A Panchkula court today extended the judicial custody of Samjhauta blast case accused Swami Aseemanand till the seventh of next month. The National Investigating Agency, NIA assured the Judge that a charge sheet will be filed against him before the next date of hearing. The hearing in the case took place through video-conferencing with the accused lodged in central jail in Ambala. The Accused Swami Aseemanand's, whose bail plea was rejected by a session’s court   on May 12, had already denied having made any statement to the National Investigation Agency about his involvement in the Samjhauta blast case. A total of 68 people, mostly Pakistanis, were killed in Samjhauta Express blast, at Panipat's Diwana village.

A Delhi court today reserved its order on the bail plea of Cineyug Films Director Karim Morani, an accused in the 2G spectrum case. During the arguments on bail, CBI prosecutor A K Singh said that Morani facilitated the transaction of  200 crore rupees from DB Realty to Kalaignar TV, in which DMK MP Kanimozhi holds 20 per cent stake. The CBI said Morani took six crore for facilitating this 200 crore transaction. Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, appearing for Morani, submitted that the CBI should not oppose the bail plea of his client as they had not arrested him during the investigation of the case. He said that Morani has no links with the public servants who are among the accused in the case. Morani had filed his regular bail plea on May 24 after the court had denied anticipatory bail and directed him to appear before it.

The Supreme Court today refused to direct the CBSE to conduct a fresh All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). A vacation bench of justices G S Singhvi and C K Prasad dismissed the petition filed by some students who could not appear for the rescheduled test. The court refused to interfere in the examination process saying that around 10 lakh students have appeared for the examination and they would suffer because of fresh examination. The examination came under the light of controversy when some its questions were leaked and the test was rescheduled for those who could not appear for the exam on May 1st.

Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Sushil Kumar Shinde today filed an affidavit before the Adarsh scam inquiry commission. In his affidavit, Shinde has said that the plot on which the controversial Adarsh Housing Society now stands belongs to State Government. He said that the plot was not reserved for defence personnel or Kargil war heroes. Shinde also denied allegation of receiving favours from the Society members. He said the allotment of the land to Adarsh Society was done by the government only after proper scrutiny of all records. He claimed that he did not know anything about change of road width. In his affidavit, Shinde said that during his tenure as Chief Minister from May 2003 till November 2004, he did not get any complaint about any alleged irregularity in allotment of the land to Adarsh Society. He said the land falls under Coastal regulation Zone (CRZ)-2. Shinde said that during his tenure he did not deal with any issue of FSI or raising of building height or giving environmental clearance.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation DGCA  today started an inquiry into the crash of a small medical ambulance aircraft in a residential area in Faridabad. A six-member DGCA team is inspecting the site of the crash and will take charge of all material evidence including the wreckage of the plane. According to the official sources the inspector of inquiry will hand over the material evidence to the Court of Inquiry when it is set up.  Three persons on the ground were among the 10 dead when the P-12 single- engine turboprop aircraft crashed in Jawaharnagar locality near the IAF station in Faridabad at around 10. 35 PM yesterday.  The Haryana Government has announced compensation of two lakh rupees each for next of kin of those women from Faridabad, who were killed in the crash. The Government has also decided to give compensation for the repair of damaged houses.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party has suspended its Politburo member Nagam Janardhan Reddy for his alleged anti-party activities. The TDP Politburo met late last night and passed a resolution suspending him with immediate affect from the party. The Polite Bureau has endorsed the resolution passed by the Telangana Telugu Desam Forum three days ago that the senior leader be suspended. Janardhan Reddy elected from the Nagarkurnool assembly constituency has been openly taking up pro-Telangana programmes for the past few days. He served as a minister for 12 years in the cabinets of TDP Governments.

The Madras High Court has issued a notice to the Centre and the State Governments on a petition seeking to set up a system along the Tamil Nadu Coast to protect the lives of Indian fishermen straying into  Srilankan waters. The public interest litigation came up for hearing yesterday. The petitioner has said that the fishermen were afraid to go near the India-Srilanka International Maritime Boundary line and claimed that they have been deprived of their fundamental right to a livelihood. Pointing out that it was very difficult for them to identify the boundary line, he said that it was the main reason for all the problems. Suggesting that the solution would be to provide a chain of Automatic Identification System stations along the Tamilnadu Coast, he said that the process would also not be very expensive. The public interest litigation came up for hearing before the bench of Justices S.Rajeswaran and KBK Vasuki. The Assistant Solicitor General of India J. Ravindran took notice on behalf of the Union Government. The matter was posted on June 13 for further hearing.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi today the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that developing nations are coming together to firm up their position for the candidacy of Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, IMF.   The post of IMF Managing Director fell vacant following the exit of Dominique Strauss-Kahn who is being tried for charges of sexual assault in the US. Mr. Mukherjee said that he is in touch with Finance Ministers of the emerging economies to take a view on the developing situation.

Food inflation has shot up to 8.55 per cent for the week ended May 14. The rise is attributed to escalation of prices of fruits, cereals and protein-based items escalated. Food inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index or WPI, was on a declining trajectory for the previous three weeks. The figure for the seven-day period under review was 1.08 percentage points higher than the 7.47 per cent inflation rate recorded in the previous week.    Prices of fruit rose by 32.37 per cent, milk by 5.53 per cent and eggs, meat and fish by 8.26 per cent. Rice also became 2.63 per cent more expensive and potatoes 0.17 per cent costlier on an annual basis. Prices of vegetables and pulses declined by 1.46 per cent and 9.49 per cent, respectively. Also, wheat became cheaper by 0.30 per cent on an annual basis.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 138 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 17,985 in opening trade, this morning, on fresh buying in select stocks, amid positive Asian bourses. Rising further, the Sensex later regained the 18,000 level, only to slip back once again, and stand 137 points, or 0.8 percent in positive territory, at 17,984, in afternoon deals, a short while ago. Stock markets in Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan were up by between 0.2 percent and 2.8 percent, today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 0.3 per cent higher, overnight.

Oil rose in Asian trade today, tracking gains in US equities markets. New York's main contract, light sweet crude for July delivery, gained 36 cents to 101 dollars 68 cents a barrel, while Brent North Sea crude for the same month was up 30 cents to   115 dollars 23 cents.

The first Semi-final match of the 65th Senior National Santosh Trophy football Championship will be played this evening between Manipur and Services at Guwahati Nehru Stadium. Both the teams are prepared for the match.

Manipur, who won the trophy in 2002, have an edge in the Semi-final considering the performance in the tournament so far. In the quarterfinal league, Manipur defeated Tamilnadu and Chattishgarh.On the other hand; Services, who reached the final in 2008, did not manage a win in the quarter-final league match. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has said that her Ministry has proposed a 200 channels pack on free-to-air category of Doordarshan Direct To Home service.  Mrs. Soni added that the government has proposed to invest about one hundred crore rupees to upgrade the services of Public Broadcaster. विदेश मंत्री एस.एम. कृष्णा ने कहा है कि एक अमरीकी अदालत में २००८ के मुम्बई आतंकी हमले सहित विभिन्न आतंकवादी गतिविधियों में आई एस आई का हाथ होने के बारे में डेविड कोलमैन हेडली के बयानों के बाद पाकिस्तान को न केवल भारत बल्कि पूरी विश्व बिरादरी को कई सवालों के जवाब देने होंगे। अदीस अबाबा में श्री कृष्णा ने पत्रकारों से कहा बताया कि भारत ने हमेशा ही आतंकवादियों को ही नहीं बल्कि इस गंभीर अपराध की साजिश रचने वाले लोगों को भी सज+ा दिलाने के लिए पाकिस्तान पर दबाव बनाया है। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत को उम्मीद है कि पाकिस्तान आपसी सम्बन्धों के हित में कार्रवाई करेगा। एक भारतीय राजनयिक की पुत्री को अमरीका में हिरासत में लिये जाने के सवाल के जवाब में उन्होंने कहा कि उन्होंने उसकी रिहाई के लिए व्यक्तिगत रूप से इस मामले में हस्तक्षेप किया है। उन्होंने आशा व्यक्त की कि अमरीका अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मापदण्डों और सुस्थापित प्रक्रियाओं तथा संधियों का पालन करेगा।

पाकिस्तान की खुफिया एजेसी आई एस आई ने २६ नवम्बर के मुंबई हमलों के अभियुक्त डेविड हेडली को हमलों से पहले जासूसी करने का विशेष प्रशिक्षण दिया था। लश्करे तैयबा के आतंकवादी हेडली ने शिकागो की अदालत में यह जानकारी दी।

भारत और अमरीका, कल नई दिल्ली में होने वाली सुरक्षा वार्ता में २६ नवम्बर २००८ के मुम्बई हमलों की जांच में प्रगति, आतंकवाद के बारे में जानकारी का आदान प्रदान, समुद्री सुरक्षा और अवैध धन की समस्या से निपटने जैसे मुद्दों पर प्रमुखता से बातचीत करेंगे। गृह मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों के अनुसार दोनों देशों के प्रतिनिधि साइबर सुरक्षा , आतंकवाद से निपटने , सुरक्षा उपकरणों के आदान-प्रदान और जांच में परस्पर सहयोग तथा क्षमता विकास जैसे परस्पर हित के मुद्दों पर भी विचार कर सकते हैं। भारतीय प्रतिनिधि मंडल का नेतृत्व गृह मंत्री पी चिदम्बरम करेंगे, जबकि अमरीकी प्रतिनिधि मंडल का नेतृत्व वहां की आंतरिक सुरक्षा मंत्री जेनेट नेपोलितानो करेंगी।

कश्मीर घाटी में शोपियां जिले में सुरक्षाबलों के साथ मुठभेड़ में एक आतंकवादी मारा गया है और एक अन्य को एक घर में घेर लिया गया है। एक सरकारी प्रवक्ता ने हमारे श्रीनगर संवाददाता को बताया कि हत्याओं और सुरक्षाबलों पर हमलों के विभिन्न मामलों में वांछित विदेशी आतंकवादी क़ारी ज+ुबैर एक घर में छिपा हुआ है। बताया जाता है कि पाकिस्तान का रहने वाला कारी ज+ुबैर काफी दिनों से इस क्षेत्र में सक्रिय था। दो दिन में इस तरह की यह दूसरी मुठभेड़ है, इससे पहले की मुठभेड़ में पाकिस्तान का ही रहने वाला एक विदेशी आतंकवादी कुपवाड़ा जिले के जचिलदारा क्षेत्र में कल मारा गया था।

दिल्ली पुलिस आयुक्त बी.के. गुप्ता ने आज केन्द्रीय गृहमंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम से मुलाकात की और उन्हें, दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय के बाहर कल के विस्फोट के बारे में प्रारम्भिक जांच रिपोर्ट सौंपी। बैठक के बाद श्री गुप्ता ने पत्रकारों को बताया कि विस्फोट की तीव्रता कम थी, इसलिए इसका मकसद कोई बड़ा नुकसान पहुंचाने का नहीं था।

पंचकुला की एक अदालत ने समझौता एक्सप्रैस विस्फोट मामले में आरोपी असीमानंद की न्यायिक हिरासत ७ जून तक बढ़ा दी है। राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी ने अदालत को विश्वास दिलाया कि वह अगली सुनवाई पर आरोप पत्र दाखिल कर देगी। अदालत की यह सुनवाई विडियो कॉन्फ्रेंस के जरिये की गई। असीमानंद अंबाला सेन्ट्रल जेल में बंद है।

भारत ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र से लाल सागर और सोमालिया के पास समुद्री डाकुओं के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय खतरे से निपटने के लिए व्यापक स्तर पर कार्रवाई करने में अग्रणी भूमिका निभाने का आग्रह किया है। प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय को सोमालिया में स्थिरता बहाल करने के अपने प्रयास जारी रखने चाहिए।
इथियोपिया की संसद के दोनों सदनों के संयुक्त अधिवेशन में डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि लोगों विशेषकर विकासशील देशों में रहने वाले करोड़ों लोगों के कल्याण के लिए भारत और अफ्रीका को मिलकर काम करना चाहिए।

सरकार ने दोहराया है कि सभी संबंधित पक्षों के साथ आम सहमति बनाने के बाद भूमि अधिग्रहण विधेयक को संसद के आगामी मॉनसून सत्र में पेश कर दिया जायेगा। मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने आज नई दिल्ली में कहा कि विधेयक को अंतिम रूप देने के लिए यूपीए गठबन्धन के सहयोगी दलों सहित सभी राजनीतिक पार्टियों की सलाह ली जायेगी।

श्री सिब्बल ने कहा कि राष्ट्रीय सलाहकार परिषद तथा इस मुद्दे पर गठित मंत्रिसमूह के साथ तृणमूल कांग्रेस प्रमुख ममता बैनर्जी के विचारों को भी विधेयक में उचित स्थान दिया जायेगा।
श्री सिब्बल ने कहा कि साम्प्रदायिक तथा लक्षित हिंसा रोकथाम विधेयक - २०११ भी आगामी सत्र में पेश किया जायेगा। उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया कि विधेयक को पेश करने से पहले उसे संसदीय समिति को भेजा जायेगा, जो इस पर अपने सुझाव देगी।
आई आई टी और आई आई एम के बारे में श्री सिब्बल ने कहा कि बदलते परिदृश्य में इन संस्थानों को अनुसंधान प्रधान बनाने पर जोर दिया जा रहा है। श्री सिब्बल ने कहा कि जल्दी ही इन संस्थानों से विभिन्न मुद्दों पर विश्व समाधान उपलब्ध हो सकेंगे।

सरकार, कल रात फरीदाबाद में एक एम्बुलेंस विमान के गिरने की घटना की जांच के लिए समिति नियुक्त करेगी। नागर विमानन मंत्रालय में सचिव नसीम जैदी ने आज नई दिल्ली में बताया कि यह समिति दुर्घटना के कारणों का पता लगायेगी और भविष्य में इस प्रकार की घटनायें न हों इसके लिए उपाय सुझायेगी। उन्होंने बताया कि मंत्रालय को इस दुर्घटना की प्रारंभिक रिपोर्ट मिल गयी है। इसमें बताया गया है कि ऐसा लगता है कि दुर्घटना का प्रमुख कारण तकनीकी गड़बड़ी और तेज हवायें थीं। श्री जैदी ने बताया कि इस विषय में समीक्षा के लिए एक कार्य दल का गठन किया गया है।

मंत्रालय ने यह निर्णय किया है कि एक वकिर्ंग ग्रुप सेटअप किया जायेगा जो अपने देश में जनरल एविएशन एनएसओपी होल्डर्स का ऑपरेशन और एम्बुलेंस एयर क्राफ्टस के ऑपरेशन के सुरक्षा के दृष्टिकोण से जो हमारा वर्तमान में रेगुलेटिव फे्रम वर्क हैं उसमें क्या-क्या सुधार किये जाए। ताकि जर्नल एविएशन की सेफ्टी ऑपरेशनस को प्रोत्साहन किया जा सके।
इस दुर्घटना में दस लोग मारे गये थे, जिनमें सात लोग विमान में सवार थे और तीन महिलाएं थीं, जो उस जगह मौजूद थीं, जहां यह विमान गिरा था।

केंद्रीय गृह मंत्रालय ने आज दक्षिण-पश्चिम मॉनसून के लिए राज्यों की तैयारियों की समीक्षा की और आपदाओं से निपटने के उपायों पर विचार किया। गृह सचिव जी के पिल्लई ने नई दिल्ली में राज्यों के राहत आयुक्तों और आपदा प्रबंधन विभाग के सचिवों की वार्षिक बैठक का शुभारंभ करते हुए आपदा प्रबंधन के महत्व पर जोर दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि प्राकृतिक और अन्य आपदाओं के बढ़ने और जलवायु परिवर्तन के दुष्प्रभावों को देखते हुए आपदा प्रबंधन पर अधिक ध्यान देना जरूरी हो गया है। आपदा प्रबंधन के उपायों पर श्री पिल्लई ने कहा कि भवन निर्माण के नियमों में संशोधन एक प्रमुख मुद्दा है।

राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने १९९३ में दिल्ली बम विस्फोटों में दोषी ठहराए गए प्रोफेसर दविंदर पालसिंह भुल्लर की दया याचिका नामंजूर कर दी है। उसे २००१ में मौत की सजा सुनाई गई थी। भुल्लर २००४ के बाद ऐसे पहले व्यक्ति होंगे, जिन्हें फांसी दी जाएगी।

खाद्य मुद्रास्फीति एक दशमलव शून्य आठ प्रतिशत बढ़+कर आठ दशमलव पांच पांच प्रतिशत हो गई है। १४ मई को समाप्त हुये सप्ताह में फल, अनाज और प्रोटीनयुक्त वस्तुओं के दाम में बढ़ोतरी हुई। थोक मूल्य सूचकांक पर आधरित मुद्रास्फीति की यह दर पिछले तीन सप्ताहों से लगातार गिर रही थी।

External Affairs Minister S.M Krishna has said that Pakistan has so much to answer not only to India but also to the International community following David Coleman Headly's revelations in the US Court about ISI's involvement in various terrorist activities including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Speaking to reporters at Addis Ababa, Krishna said, India has also always kept up the pressure on Pakistan to bring to Justice not only the terrorists but also the brains involved in the heinous crime. He said, New Delhi hopes, Pakistan will act in the larger interest of bilateral relations. Replying to question on the detention of an Indian Diplomat's daughter in the US, Mr. Krishna said, he had personally intervened to get her released. Mr. Krishna said, he expected the US to follow international norms and well established practices and conventions.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has reached Dar-es-Salaam on a three-day state visit to Tanzania. President of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrishmo Kikwete welcomed the Prime Minister at the Julius Nyarere airport. Earlier, Prime Minister made a strong pitch to the United Nations to take the lead in evolving a comprehensive response to the threat of international piracy in the Red Sea and off the coast of Somalia to ensure unhindered maritime trade. Dr. Singh said, the international community should continue with its effort to restore stability in Somalia. Addressing the joint session of two Houses of Ethiopian parliament, Dr. Singh said India and Africa have to work together to make Global Inter Dependence work for the benefit of all people, particularly for the millions who live in the developing world. Dr. Singh said, India sees Africa as a natural partner in its growing engagement in the world.

Progress on the investigations into the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, sharing of data on terrorism, coastal security,countering illicit financing and trans-national crimes are high on the agenda of the Homeland Security Dialogue between India and the United States being held in New Delhi tomorrow. According to Home Ministry officials, the two delegations are also likely to discuss issues of mutual interest including mega city policing, cyber security, transfer of counter-terrorism and homeland security equipment to each other, capacity building and mutual assistance in investigations.

Government has appointed a Committee of Enquiry to look into the crash of an air ambulance aircraft in Faridabad last night. Secretary of Civil Aviation Ministry Nasim Zaidi told reporters in New Delhi today that the committee will determine causes and contributory factors which led to the crash and give recommendations in order to prevent such accidents in future. Mr Zaidi said that the Ministry has received a preliminary report on the incident.

In the tragic accident, an air ambulance aircraft holding Non Schedule Operator’s Permit crashed in Faridabad last night, due to bad weather just fifteen minutes before it was schedule to land at the Delhi’s IGI airport. Ten people were killed in the crash including all seven on board and three on ground.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.K Gupta today met the Union Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram and submited the premilinary investigation report in connection with the yesterday's blast outside Delhi High Court. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Gupta said that the explosion was not aimed at creating any major damage as its intensity was low. Mr. Gupta said that the report of Central Forensic Science Laboratory is still awaited. A crude bomb had yesterday triggered a low intensity explosion outside the Delhi High Court creating a security scare.

President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has rejected the mercy petition of 1993 Delhi bomb blast convict Prof. Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar. He was sentenced to death in 2001. Bhullar will be the first person to be hanged after 2004. Our correspondent reports that the Supreme Court had sought on Monday the Delhi Government's response on death row convict and Punjab terrorist Bhullar for reducing his sentence to life term as mercy petition was pending before the President for the past eight years. Bhullar was sentenced to death by designated TADA court on 25th August 2001 for his role in September 10, 1993 Delhi bomb blast tagetting the cavalcade of car carrying the then All India Youth Congress President M. S. Bitta.

Government today reiterated that the Land Acquisition Bill will be tabled in the coming Monsoon Session of Parliament after reaching a consensus with all the stake-holders on the issue. Briefing the media in New Delhi, Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said, all political parties including UPA allies will be taken on board before finalisation of the bill.

Mr. Sibal said, Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill, 2011 will also come up in the coming session. Responding to a query, the Minister clarified that before introducing the bill, it will be presented to the parliamentary committee which will also add its suggestions to it.

Dealing with a number of questions relating to IITs and IIMs, Mr. Sibal said that in the changing scenario more emphasis is being put on making these institutions research oriented. Mr. Sibal said IITs and IIMs will soon reach critical mass and will provide global solutions to various issues.

In Bangladesh, the special parliamentary committee on constitutional amendments is working towards finalizing its report and placing it before the parliament in the current session. Briefing reporters today in Dhaka, Co-Chairman of the committee Suranjit Sengupta said that the committee will be meeting on Saturday to finalise its report which will be later discussed with the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before it is placed in the house. Meanwhile the committee today held a meeting with the Sector Commader’s forum, a platform of the sector commanders of the country’s liberation war in 1971. The forum members have put forward a three point demand which includes adding a provision in the constitution for banning religion-based political parties and to remove the provision of Islam as the state religion keeping in line with the secular spirit of the original constitution of 1972.

The committee is now in the process of finalizing its report after holding discussions with political parties eminent lawyers, constitutional experts, editors of media organizations and civil society organizations. The main opposition party the BNP has however so far stayed away from the discussions and its leaders have been urging the government to hold a referendum on the amendments likely to be proposed. The Co-Chairman of the committee Mr.Suranjit Sengupta has however dismissed the demand saying that there is no such provision in the constitution for holding a referendum on constitutional amendments and the committee will submit its report to the parliament soon. In Iraq, thousands of Iraq’s Shiite Sadrist al-Mahdi supporters led by their Leader Muqtada al-Sadr took to the streets of Baghdad today opposing US military presence in the country. Voice of Iraq news agency reported that Iraqi Army forces closed the main roads, leading to Al-Sadr city, where the demonstration started from and spread to most of its streets and districts.

In Yemen, fighting continues between government forces and opposition tribal militia in the capital Sana. Reports say that fighting, which started on 23rd of this month, has claimed more than 70 lives so far. Tribesmen loyal to powerful tribal chief Sadeq al-Ahmar have also seized some public buildings in Sanaa amid gun battles with Yemen's security forces. US President Barack Obama has called on Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh to immediately honour his promise to transfer power in a deal with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab states that would see him leave in 30 days.

India US, Canada and Australia, have been ranked among the nations with the best cultures in the world for people to start a new business. According to a new global poll conducted by the BBC World Service, while India finds itself bracketed with the better ranked countries, Colombia, Egypt, Turkey, Italy and Russia are the least friendly to innovation and entrepreneurship. US and China are also among the most favourable countries for innovation and creativity. The results were drawn from a survey of 24,537 adult citizens across 24 countries.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), headed by noted Bharatnatyam dancer and choreographer Leela Samson, was today reconstituted by the government with the appointment of 15 members. An official release says, these members have been appointed with immediate effect for a period of three years until further orders.
