• पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री युसूफ रजा गिलानी ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट की अवमानना नोटिस पर इस्तीफा देने की पेशकश की। राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी और अन्य के खिलाफ भ्रष्टाचार के मामले फिर से खोलने में नाकाम रहने पर अदालत ने प्रधानमंत्री को अवमानना का नोटिस दिया।
• देश के सभी बच्चों के टीकाकरण अभियान में तेजी के लिए २०१२ को टीकाकरण वर्ष घोषित किया गया।

पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री यूसुफ रजा गिलानी ने इस्तीफा देने की पेशकश की है। उन्होंने ये पेशकश सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी के खिलाफ रिश्वत के मामले को फिर से खोलने में नाकाम रहने के कारण अवमानना का नोटिस दिए जाने के बाद की है। मीडिया की खबरों के अनुसार श्री गिलानी ने पाकिस्तान पीपुल्स पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेताओं और सत्तारूढ़ गठबंधन के सहयोगियों को बताया कि वे इस्तीफा देने को तैयार हैं, बशर्ते कि उनके इस कदम से सरकार और संसद को मजबूती मिलती हो। श्री गिलानी ने संसद के महत्वपूर्ण सत्र के शुरू होने के पहले पाकिस्तान पीपुल्स पार्टी और सहयोगी दलों की बैठक बुलाई थी। संसद में असैन्य सरकार को मजबूत बनाने के प्रस्ताव पर मतदान होना है। बैठक में राष्ट्रपति जरदारी भी मौजूद थे।
कुछ अन्य सूत्रों ने पी टी आई को बताया कि पाकिस्तान पीपुल्स पार्टी के नेतृत्व ने न्यायपालिका और सेना के साथ सरकार के गतिरोध को समाप्त करने के संभावित उपाय के रूप में प्रधानमंत्री के इस्तीफे के बारे में भी चर्चा की।
इससे पहले पाकिस्तान की सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने प्रधानमंत्री गिलानी को १९ जनवरी को कोर्ट में हाजिर होने का आदेश दिया। ये आदेश जस्टिस नसीरउल मुल्क की अध्यक्षता वाली सात सदस्यों की पीठ ने श्री जरदारी और आठ हजार अन्य लोगों के खिलाफ शीर्ष न्यायालय के मुकदमे से संबंधित मामले की सुनवाई करते हुए दिया। पीठ ने श्री गिलानी को कोर्ट में व्यक्तिगत रूप से हाजिर होकर ये स्पष्ट करने को कहा कि अदालत के आदेश को जानबूझ कर नजरअंदाज करने के लिए उनके खिलाफ क्यों न अवमानना की कार्यवाही चलाई जाए।
सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा नियुक्त एक समिति मेमो कांड की भी जांच कर रही है लेकिन उसकी सुनवाई आज पूरी नहीं हो सकी।

पांचवां विश्व भावी ऊर्जा शिखर सम्मेलन आज संयुक्त अरब अमीरात की राजधानी अबुधाबी में शुरू हुआ। संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव बानकी मून ने इस सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन किया।
चार दिनों के सम्मेलन में पचास देशों के साठ से अधिक शीर्ष नेता ऊर्जा नीतियों और चुनौतियों से संबंधित अंतरराष्ट्रीय मुद्दों पर चर्चा करेंगे। इसमें तीन हजार प्रतिनिधियों और प्रदर्शनी लगाने वाली साढ़े छह सौ कंपनियों सहित २६ हजार लोग भाग ले रहे हैं। इस वर्ष के शिखर सम्मेलन की विषय वस्तु है - सभी के लिए सतत ऊर्जा। संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने २०१२ को सतत ऊर्जा विकास वर्ष घोषित किया

भारत और चीन के बीच सीमा वार्ता का १५वां दौर आज नई दिल्ली में शुरू हुआ। इस बातचीत में भारतीय पक्ष का नेतृत्व राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार शिवशंकर मेनन और चीन के प्रतिनिधिमण्डल का नेतृत्व वहां के स्टेट काउंसलर दाई बिंगगुआ कर रहे हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि दो दिन की इस वार्ता के अंत में सीमा प्रबंधन के बारे में संयुक्त तंत्र स्थापित करने के समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर होने की उम्मीद है।

भारत ने कहा है कि बंगाल की खाड़ी के तटवर्ती देशों का संगठन-बिम्सटेक सदस्य देशों को ग्रामीण विकास और गरीबी उन्मूलन के अपने सर्वोत्तम अनुभवों के आदान-प्रदान का अवसर उपलब्ध कराता है। नेपाल की राजधानी काठमांडू में गरीबी उन्मूलन पर बिम्सटेक के सदस्यों की दूसरी मंत्रिस्तरीय बैठक में भारत के ग्रामीण विकास राज्यमंत्री शिशिर अधिकारी ने कहा कि इससे सदस्य देशों के बीच सहयोग बढ़ाने की नीतियों और कार्यक्रमों को तैयार करने में मदद मिलेगी।

श्रीलंका की चार दिन की यात्रा पर विदेश मंत्री एस. एम. कृष्णा आज कोलम्बो पहुंचे। हवाई अड्डे पर श्रीलंका के विदेश मंत्री जी. एल. पेरीज ने उनकी अगवानी की। पिछले चौदह महीनों में श्री कृष्णा की यह दूसरी श्रीलंका यात्रा है। इस दौरान विदेश मंत्री जातीय समस्या के राजनीतिक समाधान, आपसी सौहार्द तथा तमिलों के पुनर्वास के लिए भारत की सहायता से चलाये जा रहे पचास हजार मकानों के निर्माण कार्य की प्रगति की जानकारी लेंगे।

स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय ने सन्‌ २०१२ को विभिन्न बीमारियों के खिलाफ बच्चों के टीकाकरण में तेजी लाने के उद्देश्य से टीकाकरण वर्ष घोषित किया है। इसका उद्देश्य टीकाकरण कार्यक्रम का विस्तार कर सभी बच्चों को इसके दायरे में लाना है। पिछड़े और दूरदराज के इलाकों के अलावा शहरी क्षेत्रों की झुग्गी-झोपड़ियों में टीकाकरण पर विशेष जोर दिया जाएगा। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार इस वर्ष केवल ६१ प्रतिशत बच्चों को ही टीकाकरण का लाभ मिल रहा है। इस अभियान के तहत देश के दो सौ सबसे पिछड़े जिलों में टीकाकरण को उच्च प्राथमिकता दी जाएगी।

उत्तरप्रदेश में दूसरे चरण के विधानसभा चुनाव की आज अधिसूचना जारी होने के साथ ही नामांकन पत्र भरने का काम शुरू हो गया है। पूर्वी क्षेत्र के संत कबीरनगर, महाराजगंज, गोरखपुर, कुशीनगर, देवरिया, आजमगढ़, मऊ, बलिया और गाज+ीपुर जिलों के ५९ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में ११ फरवरी को वोट डाले जायेंगे।
इस बीच, पहले चरण के चुनाव के लिए अब तक ४५ नामांकन पत्र भरे गये हैं। आठ फरवरी को अवध और पूर्वी क्षेत्रों के ५५ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में वोट डाले जायेंगे।

पंजाब विधानसभा चुनाव में नाम वापस लेने की अंतिम तिथि के बाद आज रात तक चुनाव में उतरने वाले उम्मीदवारों की संख्या स्पष्ट हो जायेगी। इस बीच, निर्वाचन आयोग को चुनाव आचार संहिता के उल्लंघन की एक हजार छह सौ पचास शिकायतें मिली हैं। चण्डीगढ़ में निर्वाचन आयोग के प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि इनमें से सात सौ तीस शिकायतों का निपटारा कर दिया गया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि निर्वाचन आयोग ने पंजाब में अब तक २३ करोड़ रुपये से अधिक की अवैध राशि जब्त की है।
चुनाव आयोग राज्य में चुनाव के दौरान नशीले पदार्थों व शराब के उपयोग को रोकने के लिए काम कर रहा है। राज्य के शराब कारखानों में माइक्रो पर्यवेक्षक तैनात किये गये हैं। जो वहां से बाहर जाने वाली शराब पर कड़ी नजर रख रहे हैं। राज्य पुलिस दल, फौजी बल कानून व्यवस्था की स्थिति पर कड़ी नजर बनाये हुए हैं। आज कई स्थानों पर फ्‌लैग मार्च भी निकाले गये। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए चंडीगढ़ से जितेन्द्र सिंह रंधावा।

उत्तराखंड में करीब एक सौ आठ उम्मीदवारों ने आज अपने नामांकन-पत्र वापस लिए। खबरों के अनुसार नाम वापस लेने के बाद राज्य की ७० विधानसभा सीटों के लिए करीब सात सौ इकसठ उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में रह गए हैं। राज्य में ३० जनवरी को वोट डाले जाएंगे।

इस बीच देहरादून में सत्ताधारी भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए आज घोषणा पत्र जारी किया। पार्टी ने आगामी पांच वर्षो में दो प्रतिशत वार्षिक दर से कृषि ऋण और युवाओं को दस लाख रोजगार देने की बात कही है।

गोवा में आगामी विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए राजनीतिक दलों की गतिविधियां तेज हो गई हैं। राज्य में तीन मार्च को मतदान होगा। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि विभिन्न राजनीतिक दल गठबंधन के लिए प्रयास कर रहे है।

कांग्रेस के प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने आज उत्तर प्रदेश के दागी अधिकारियों की एक सूची निर्वाचन आयोग को सौंपी। कांग्रेस प्रवक्ता अभिषेक मनु सिंघवी ने कहा कि सूची में पन्द्रह अधिकारियों के नाम है, जिनमें चार सचिव स्तर के हैं। इन पर राज्य में सत्तारूढ़ बहुजन समाज पार्टी के इशारे पर काम करने का आरोप है।

पश्चिम बंगाल मंत्रिपरिषद का विस्तार कर उसमें दो नए राज्य मंत्री शामिल किए गए हैं। राज्यपाल एम. के. नारायणन ने आज कोलकाता के राजभवन में श्री अरूप विश्वास और सुश्री चन्द्रिमा भट्टाचार्य को पद और गोपनीयता की शपथ दिलाई। ये दोनों ही तृणमूल कांग्रेस के सदस्य है।

केन्द्रीय ग्रामीण विकास मंत्री जयराम रमेश ने कहा है कि नक्सल प्रभावित इलाकों में विकास कार्यो के लिए धन की कोई कमी नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि केन्द्र और राज्य सरकारें नक्सल समस्या के समाधान के प्रयास कर रही हैं। छत्तीसगढ़ में २३वें जिले सुकमा के उद्घाटन के अवसर पर श्री रमेश ने यह बात कही।
राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री रमण ंिसह ने नये जिले सुकमा का उद्घाटन किया। यह राज्य का सर्वाधिक नक्सल प्रभावित जिला है।

प्रधानमंत्री की आर्थिक सलाहकार परिषद के अध्यक्ष सी.रंगराजन ने कहा है कि मुद्रास्फीति की दर को कम करने के लिए और उपाय करने की आवश्यकता है। उन्होंने नई दिल्ली में थोक मूल्य सूचकांक समीक्षा जारी करते हुए कहा कि अगले सप्ताह मौद्रिक समीक्षा में भारतीय रिज+र्व बैंक को विनिर्मित वस्तुओं की मुद्रास्फीति को ध्यान में रखना चाहिए, क्योंकि इसमें मामूली गिरावट ही आई है।
सरकारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार दिसंबर में खाद्य मुद्रास्फीति दशमलव सात चार प्रतिशत रही। इससे पिछले महीने यह आठ दशमलव पांच चार प्रतिशत थी।

१२ जनवरी को समाप्त हुए सप्ताह में अधिकांश दालों की खुदरा कीमतों में कमी आई है। इनमें चना, अरहर और मूंग की दाल शामिल हैं। उपभोक्ता मामलों के मंत्रालय के आंकड़ों के अनुसार अधिकांश स्थानों में प्याज और टमाटर के मूल्यों में भी कमी दर्ज की गई है।

इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय ने उत्तरप्रदेश में बहुजन समाज पार्टी के चुनाव चिन्ह हाथी को ढके जाने के मामले में अपना फैसला सुरक्षित रखा है। न्यायमूर्ति अमर शरण और न्यायमूर्ति रमेश सिन्हा की पीठ ने इस मामले पर सुनवाई पूरी होने के बाद अपना फैसला सुरक्षित रखा।

जम्मू-कश्मीर के लद्दाख क्षेत्र में भारी हिमपात से आम जीवन अस्त-व्यस्त हो गया है। हमारे लद्दाख संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि बर्फ बारी जारी है।
बर्फबारी का सड़क मार्ग और हवाई सेवाओं पर असर पड़ा है।
मौसम के सबसे भारी हिमपात की वजह से कश्मीर घाटी का देश के बाकी भागों से संपर्क अब भी टूटा हुआ है।
घाटी में आज तीसरे दिन भी हिमपात जारी रहने से सामान्य जनजीवन प्रभावित हुआ है। फुलवा में पुलिस प्रशिक्षण केन्द्र में शट टह जाने से एक पुलिस कर्मी मारा गया जबकि ११ अन्य घायल हो गये। उधर श्रीनगर में भी एक व्यक्ति उस वक्त मारा गया जब वो अपने मकान की छत से बर्फ हटा रहा था। पूर्वी इलाकों में भी कुछ मकानों के क्षतिग्रस्त होने की खबर मिली है। श्रीनगर-जम्मू राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग बंद रहने से घाटी में अब विशेषकर खाना पकाने की गैस की किल्लत पाई जा रही है। मुश्ताक अहमद तांत्रे आकाशवाणी समाचार श्रीनगर।

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today offered to resign after the Supreme Court served him a notice for contempt of court for failing to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

According to a media report, Gilani told a meeting of top leaders of the Pakistan People's Party and its partners in the ruling coalition that he was ready to quit if the step strengthened the government and Parliament. Gilani convened the meeting of the PPP and its allies hours ahead of a crucial session of Parliament that will vote on a resolution to shore up the civilian government.

President Zardari too joined the meeting. Other sources told PTI that the PPP's top leadership had discussed the Premier's resignation as a possible measure to ease the government's standoff with the judiciary and the military. Earlier, Pakistan's Supreme Court asked Prime Minister Gilani to appear before it on the 19th January.

The order was issued by a seven-judge bench led by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk that began hearing the case related to the apex court's orders against Zardari and over 8,000 others. The bench directed Gilani to personally appear in court to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for deliberately disregarding the court's orders.

A Supreme Court-appointed panel is also probing the memo case and held a hearing today that remained inconclusive.

The Health Ministry has declared 2012 as the "Year of Intensification of Routine Immunization" in children against various diseases. The objective of the initiative is to bring all children under the enhanced immunization coverage, particularly in the remote and backward areas as well as in urban slums.

According to an official release, at present only 61 per cent of the children are covered under the immunization programme. Besides this, high priority will be given to the 200 worst performing districts across the country. The strategies which are being adopted by the Health Ministry, include updating of Micro plans to cover all villages and hamlets, intensification of immunization activity by observing immunization weeks in low performing states and special focus on migrant and mobile populations.

The Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has said that there will be no shortage of funds for developmental activities in the naxal-hit areas. The Minister said that the state and the Central government are trying to find ways to solve the naxal problem.

Mr. Ramesh was in Chhattisgarh today in connection with the inauguration of Sukma as the 23^{rd district of the state. The new district which is the most naxal affected district in the state, was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh today.}

In Uttar Pradesh, nominations for the 2nd phase of Assembly election has also begun with the issuance of notification. Polling in 59 constituencies spread over 9 districts of the eastern region would be held on 11 of next month. In Uttarakhand today is the last date for withdrawal of nominations for the assembly elections.

About 108 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers today. As per reports, after withdrawal of nomination, about 761 candidates are in the fray for 70 Assembly seats in the state. The state will go to polls on the 30th of this month. AIR correspondent has filed this report:

Today is the last date for withdrawal of nominations for assembly elections in Punjab. In Punjab, the final list of candidates will be ready tonight as reports of withdrawal are reaching Chandigarh from different districts. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India, ECI has received 1650 complaints regarding violation of the model code of conduct. More from AIR correspondent:

"This is for the first time that Election Commission is determined to curb the use of drugs and liquor during the elections. Micro observers have been deployed in all the distilleries of the state to check the delivery of liquor and distilleries are closed in their presence. In Manipur, 279 candidates are left in the fray for the state assembly elections after withdrawal of candidature. In Goa, hectic political activities are on amongst various parties to forge alliances in the forthcoming assembly polls slated for the 3rd of March.

Inflation fell to a two year low of 7.47 per cent in December, 2011 as against 9.11 percent in the previous month. The Government has expressed confidence that moderation of inflation will continue in the coming months.

The Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee today said that headline inflation will be between six and seven percent by the end of March. Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, C. Rangarajan today said that more steps are required to further moderate inflation. He was speaking to reporters in New Delhi after the release of the Wholesale Price Index Review.

Sounding a note of caution, Mr. Rangrajan said, the RBI should take into account inflation of manufactured goods, which has shown only marginal decline, while deciding to lower policy rates at its monetary review next week.

The retail prices of most of the pulses have registered a decline during the week ending on 12th of this month. The pulses which have shown downward trend in prices include Gram dal, Tur dal and Moong dal. Consumer Affairs Ministry data says, the prices of onion and tomato also registered a fall at most of the centres. The price of Rice, Wheat, Aata, Milk and Potato however remained steady during the week while marginal increase was seen in the price of Mustard Oil.

Rejecting media reports about 40 per cent hike in urea prices, the government today clarified that no such proposal is under consideration and termed the reports baseless and factually incorrect.

The Chemical and Fertilizer Minister Srikant Jena in a statement has said that the retail price of Urea is notified by the Government and it is at present 5310 rupees per metric tonne.

"The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained a modest 35 points, or 0.2 percent, to 16,189, today, as easing inflation boosted investor sentiment. The Nifty rose 8 points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,874. But stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore lost between 1 percent and 1.5 percent, after Standard and Poor's cut the rating of nine European nations. The rupee strengthened 15 paise, to close at a nearly one-and-a-half-month high of 51.38 against the dollar. Gold rose 50 rupees, to 27,890 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. The fifth edition of the World Future Energy Summit began in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi today. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon declared the four day summit open. The four day long summit has brought together more than 60 top leaders from 50 countries to discuss global issues related to energy policies and the challenges. The theme of this year’s World Future Energy Summit is - "Sustainable Energy for All". Our West Asia Correspondent has filed this report:

"The World Future Energy Summit began on a hopeful note as the policy makers from over 50 countries gathered in Abu Dhabi to share and exchange the recent developments in renewable energy sector and energy efficiency. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in his inaugural address called upon the global community to look for and adopt energy solutions which are viable and sustainable in the long run. The Union Minister of Renewable energy resources, Dr. Farooq Abdullah addressed a Ministerial Panel on Sustainable Energy for All. External Affairs minister SM Krishna has reached Colombo on a four day visit to Sri Lanka. He was received at the airport by his Sri Lankan counterpart G L Peires. This is his second visit to the island nation in the last 14 months.

Political solution to the ethnic question, the issue of reconciliation and the review and progress of the India assisted 50,000 housing project for the war displaced Tamil civilians are likely to be the focus of the visit. Mr. Krishna will hold discussions with the leaders of the various Tamil parties.

The Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union will take more time to materialize. European Union Foreign Policy Chief, Baroness Catherine Ashton informed this after holding a Ministerial level meeting with External Affairs Minister S M Krishna in Bangalore today. "The Union Minister S M Krishna termed the talks held today as useful and substantive. He informed that they took stock of the ground covered in various areas of cooperation and reiterated their commitment to take cooperation to the next level. Speaking about the cruise ship concorde, that sank near Italy, S M Krishna informed that an Indian named Rebelo is missing in the accident. On US dialogue with Taliban in Afghanistan, the External Affairs minister hoped that USA will be careful about the red line drawn by India during the negotiation. He meant that USA will be aware about Indian sensibilities and concerns while dealing with Taliban. Sudhindra, Air News,Bangalore."

Fresh snowfall and intermittent rain have hampered normal life in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand today. In Jammu and Kashmir, the Kashmir valley continues to be cut off from rest of the country owing to the season's heavy snowfall. AIR Srinagar Correspondent has filed this report:

"With no let up in snow fall on the third day, the situation in the Kashmir valley has turned grim. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained close for the second day and no flight could operate from Srinagar Airport. Road closures and slippery road conditions have affected supply of essential commodities, particularly cocking gas in Kashmir valley. Mushtak Ahmed Tantrey, Air News, Srinagar."

In the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir heavy snowfall has thrown the normal life out of gear. Our Leh correspondent report that the snowfall that started yesterday afternoon is continuing when report last come in.

The key tourist resort of Manali and other higher mountains of Kullu are experiencing the heaviest snowfall of the season while the mid and high hills of Himachal Pradesh were today hit by intermittent moderate snowfall. Our correspondent has filed this report.

In Uttrakhand, vehicular traffic on the Rishikesh- Gangotri and Rishikesh-Badrinath Highways have been disrupted.
