गृहमंत्री पी. चिदंबरम ने राष्ट्रीय आतंकवाद रोधी केन्द्र के मसले पर आशंकाओं को दूर करते हुए दस मुख्यमंत्रियों को पत्र लिखे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि आतंकवाद से निपटने की जिम्मेदारी सबकी है। उन्होंने याद दिलाया कि केन्द्र तथा राज्य सरकारों के बीच इस बात पर सहमति हो चुकी है कि आतंकवाद देश के लिए एक गंभीर खतरा है और इससे सभी को मिलकर निपटना होगा।

मंत्रियों के समूह ने आज यूरिया के क्षेत्र में नई निवेश नीति को मंजूरी दी। इस नीति से देश यूरिया के मामले में आत्मनिर्भर बन सकेगा। वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी की अध्यक्षता में मंत्रियों के समूह ने सचिवों की समिति की सिफारिशों को मान लिया है। इसके मसौदे में सचिवों की समिति ने नये पौधे लगाने और पुराने पौधों का इलाका बढ़ाने के लिए प्रोत्साहन दिए जाने का सुझाव दिया था। देश में इस समय दो करोड़ बीस लाख टन यूरिया का उत्पादन होता है और इसकी खपत दो करोड़ ९० लाख टंन है। मांग और आपूर्ति के बीच ७० लाख टन यूरिया की कमी को आयात से पूरा किया जाता है।
सरकार ने यूरिया का उत्पादन बढ़ाने के लिए २००८ में भी नई निवेश नीति की घोषणा की थी, लेकिन यह सफल न हो सकी। मांग और आपूर्ति की बढ़ती कमी को पूरा करने के लिए सरकार ने २०१० में नई नीति बनाने की घोषणा की थी। पिछले वर्ष योजना आयोग के सदस्य सौमित्र चौधरी की अध्यक्षता में सचिवों की एक समिति बनाई गई थी।

राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग ने तमिलनाडु के पुलिस महानिदेशक, चेन्नई के जिला अधिकारी और वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिक्षक से चेन्नई में एक पुलिस मुठभेड़ में पांच लोगों के कथित रूप से मारे जाने की घटना की जांच करने को कहा है। दिल्ली में जारी प्रैस विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार आयोग ने मीडिया रिपोर्ट पर आधारित शिकायत पर इन अधिकारियों को नोटिस जारी किया है। अपने नोटिस में आयोग ने इन अधिकारियों से आठ सप्ताह के भीतर जवाब देने का निर्देश दिया है। आयोग ने यह भी कहा है कि आयोग के दिशानिर्देशों के अनुसार घटना के बारे में मजिस्ट्रेटी जांच, पोस्टमार्टम, स्वतंत्र जांच, रिपोर्ट भी पेश की जानी चाहिए।

सरकार ने तमिलनाडु के कुडनकुलम क्षेत्र में काम कर रहे तीन गैर सरकारी संगठनों के लाइसेंस रद्द कर दिए हैं क्योंकि वे समाज कल्याण के लिए दिए गए धन को परमाणु विरोधी प्रदर्शनों को भड़काने के लिए इस्तेमाल कर रहे थे। केन्द्रीय मंत्री वी नारायणसामी ने आज बताया कि ये गैर-सरकारी संगठन विदेशी धन को कुडनकुलम में परमाणु विरोधी अभियान पर खर्च कर रहे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार को जब यह पता लगा कि कुछ गैर सरकारी संगठन अमरीका और स्केंडीनीवियाई देशों से प्राप्त धन को आंदोलन पर खर्च कर रहे थे तो सरकार ने आवश्यक कार्रवाई की। श्री नारायणसामी ने बताया कि ये संगठन विदेशी अंशदान नियमन कानून- एफ सी आर ए के दिशानिर्देशों का उल्लंघन कर रहे हैं और इन्हें जिस उद्देश्य के लिए धन मिलता है उसके लिए इस्तेमाल नहीं करते।

केन्द्रीय सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्री अम्बिका सोनी ने आज कहा कि सरकार मीडिया पर सेंसर लगाने के पक्ष में नहीं है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय प्रेस संस्थान के भारत क्षेत्र के पत्रकारिता में २०११ को उत्कृष्टता पुरस्कार प्रदान करने के बाद श्रीमती सोनी ने आज नई दिल्ली में यह बात कही। यह संयुक्तरूप से तहलका और द वीक पत्रिकाओं को दिया गया। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार मीडियां की विषयवस्तु का कोई नियमन नहीं करना चाहती, पर चाहेगी कि मीडिया स्वयं नियमन करे और विश्वसनीयता, खबरों में निष्पक्षता मीडिया द्वारा गुण दोषों का विश्लेषण और धन देकर खबरें लगवाना जैसे सार्वजनिक विवाद के विषयों पर स्वयं ध्यान दे। श्रीमती सोनी ने कहा कि मीडिया के लिए स्वयं नियमन व्यवस्था को मजबूत किए जाने की व्यवस्था के सकारात्मक नतीजों के लिए सरकार काम कर रही है।

हम सेल्फ सेगुलेशन चाहते हैं कि जो कानून है जो सेल्फ रेगुलेशन के लिए पार्लियामेंट ने केबल रेगुलेटरी एक्ट पारित किया है तो उसका उल्लंघन नहीं होना चाहिए।
एक सवाल के जवाब में श्रीमती सोनी ने कहा कि यह मीडिया की भी जिम्मेदारी है कि वह देश की सकारात्मक भावना को सामने लाए। आंदोलनों के बारे में पूछे जाने पर श्रीमती सोनी ने कहा कि इसके लिए हर कोई स्वतंत्र है और जिन सिद्धांतों में हम विश्वास करते हैं उनके लिए आवाज उठाना गलत नहीं है।

उत्तर प्रदेश में विधानसभा चुनाव के छठे और सातवें चरण के लिए प्रचार जोरों पर है। हमारे इलाहबाद संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि छठे चरण में पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश की ६८ सीटों पर चुनाव होगा।

विभिन्न दलों के स्टार प्रचारकों ने आज राज्य के कई पश्चिमी जिलों में तमाम जनसभायें की हैं। प्रचार के दौरान इन इलाकों में विकास से जुड़े मुद्दों के साथ साथ किसानों की समस्याओं पर भी बड़े नेताओं ने अपनी बातें रखी हैं। कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी ने जनसभा में कहा कि पिछले दो दशकों में विपक्ष की सरकारों ने आम लोगों के बीच सामाजिक भेदभाव को बहुत बड़ा दिया है। उन्होंने जनता से अभी मायाजाल से बाहर निकलने का आहवान किया। वहीं वासपा प्रमुख मुख्यमंत्री मायावती ने अपनी सरकार के कामों को गिनाते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने विकास के लिए ही अलग पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य बनाने के लिए पहले ही कदम उठा चुकी हैं। समाजवादी पार्टी के अध्यक्ष मुलायम सिंह यादव ने मतदाताओं को राज्य में कानून के शासन का भरोसा दिलाया है। वहीं भाजपा नेता लालकृष्ण आडवाणी ने राज्य के विकास की उपेक्षा के लिए विपक्षी दलों की आलोचना करते हुए कहा है कि केवल भाजपा ही एक अच्छी सरकार दे सकती है। राष्ट्रीय लोकदल के नेता अजीत सिंह ने भी लोगों को तेजी से विकास का भरोसा दिलाया है। संजय प्रताप सिंह आकाशवाणी समाचार इलाहबाद।

सी.बी.आई. ने उत्तरप्रदेश में राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन में चिकित्सा सामग्री आपूर्ति में कथित अनियमितताओं से जुड़े  चार नए मामले आज दर्ज किए और बाईस जिलों में तलाशी अभियान चलाया। जांच एजेंसी ने आज सुबह व्यापक तलाशी अभियान के दौरान लखनऊ के अमीनाबाद इलाके में दवा बाजारों सहित तीस स्थानों पर छापे मारे। सी.बी.आई. ने अब तक राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन के तहत आबंटित केंद्रीय कोष में कथित गबन के बारह मामले दर्ज किए हैं। सी.बी.आई. द्वारा दर्ज की गई नई एफ.आई.आर. में कई डॉक्टरों और दवा विक्रेताओं के नाम शामिल हैं।

भारत ने आज फिर कहा कि केरल तट के पास इटली के एक जहाज के कर्मचारियों द्वारा दो भारतीय मछुआरों को मारे जाने के मामले में भारत का कानून लागू होगा। इटली के उपविदेश मंत्री स्टेफन डे मिस्टुरा द्वारा विदेश मंत्रालय में सचिव एम गणपति के साथ मुलाकात के बाद विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता सैयद अकबरूद्दीन ने कहा कि जांच सही दिशा में चल रही है।
हमारे देश की न्याय प्रणाली खुली, स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष है। अगर देश का कानून अपना काम कर सके तो यह सबसे अच्छी बात होगी।
श्री अकबरूद्दीन ने बताया कि इटली के विदेशमंत्री इस बारे में और बातचीत के लिए मंगलवार को भारत आएंगे।
श्री मिस्तुरा ने खुशी जाहिर की कि इटली के विशेषज्ञों को सच्चाई जानने देने के लिए बेलिस्टिक टेस्ट करने दिया गया।

बंगलादेश ने आज कहा कि वह अपनी धरती पर भारत विरोधी गतिविधियों को बर्दाश्त नहीं करेगा। उसने आश्वासन दिया कि दोनों देशों के बीच प्रत्यर्पण संधि पर शीघ्र ही हस्ताक्षर कर लिए जाएंगे। नई दिल्ली में बंगलादेश की गृहमंत्री शहारा खातून ने भारत के गृहमंत्री पी चिदम्बरम के साथ एक संयुक्त संवाददाता सम्मेलन में कहा कि भारत की तरह बंगलादेश भी आतंकवाद का शिकार है इसे दूर करने के लिए हरसंभव प्रयास करेगा। भारत और बंगलादेश के बीच गृहमंत्री स्तर की बातचीत के बाद शहारा खातून ने यह बात कही।
श्री चिदम्बरम ने बताया कि प्रत्यर्पण संधि बंगलादेश के विचाराधीन है। इस संधि के हो जाने के बाद अल्फा नेता अनूप चेतिया को भारत को सौंपने का रास्ता साफ हो जाएगा। चेतिया इस समय ढाका जेल में है।
भारत के गृहमंत्री ने कहा कि प्रतिनिधि स्तर की बातचीत में सीमा प्रबंधन, आपसी कानूनी सहायता संधि, कैदियों की वापसी और वीजा से संबंधित विषयों पर चर्चा हुई।

भारत, अमरीका, रूस और चीन समेत बाईस अन्य देशों ने फैसला किया है कि वो यूरोपीय एयरलाइंस पर अपने-अपने देशों में अत्यधिक कार्बन उत्सर्जन न करने का दबाव बनाएंगे। इन देशों ने कहा है कि कार्बन उत्सर्जन की सीमा लांघने पर दंड लगाया जाएगा।
हाल में यूरोपीय संघ ने अपनी हवाई सीमा का इस्तेमाल कर रहे सभी विमान कंपनियों पर कार्बन टैक्स लगाने का फैसला किया है, जिसके जवाब में इन बाईस देशों ने भी यूरोपीय विमानन कंपनियों पर कार्बन उत्सर्जन दंड लगाने का फैसला किया। मॉस्को में हुई एक बैठक में सभी देशों ने सर्वसम्मति से यह फैसला किया और इस बारे में संयुक्त वक्तव्य जारी किया।

बाम्बे स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का सेंसेक्स आज १५५ अंक की गिरावट के साथ १७ हजार ९२४ पर बंद हुआ। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज के निफ्‌टी में भी ५४ अंक की गिरावट हुई और यह ५ हजार ४२९ पर बंद हुआ। निवेशकों द्वारा मुनाफा वसूली से शेयर बाजारों में गिरावट हुई है।
डॉलर के मुकाबले रुपया २६ पैसे मजबूत हुआ। एक डॉलर की कीमत ४८ रुपये ९३ पैसे रही।
सोना सौ रुपये कमजोर हुआ। दस ग्राम सोने की कीमत २८ हजार ९४० रुपये रही। चांदी की कीमत नौ सौ रुपये बढ़ी एक किलो चांदी खरीदने के लिए ५८ हजार तीन सौ रुपये देने पड़े।

Home Minister P Chidambaram has written to ten Chief Ministers allaying their fears on the issue of National Counter Terrorism Centre. He said that countering terrorism is a shared responsibility. He reminded them that both Centre and the States have agreed that terrorism is a grave threat to the country and it has to be dealt with collectively.

A Group of Ministers, GoM today approved a new investment policy for the urea sector, to make the nation self-sufficient in the key soil nutrient. The GoM, headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, approved the policy as per the Committee of Secretaries, CoS recommendations. In the draft policy, the CoS has suggested incentives for setting up of Greenfield (new plants) and Brownfield (expansion of existing plants) facilities. At present, the country faces a shortfall of 7 million tonnes, which is met through imports. Domestic urea production is estimated at 22 million tonnes, while the consumption is pegged at 29 million tonnes.

The government in 2008, had announced a New Investment Policy to boost urea production, but the scheme failed to attract fresh investments. With demand-supply gap of urea widening, the government in 2010 decided to frame a new policy. Last year, a CoS headed by Planning Commission Member Soumitra Choudhary, was set up for this purpose.

CBI today registered four fresh cases relating to alleged irregularities in medical supplies in the National Rural Health Mission scam in Uttar Pradesh and carried out searches in 22 districts. Agency teams swooped down on 30 locations, including the medicine market in Aminabad locality in Lucknow, as part of a massive search operation this morning. With the registration of fresh cases, CBI has so far registered 12 cases in connection with alleged embezzlement in Central funds allocated under the NRHM. The agency has named several doctors and medicine suppliers under the new set of FIRs.

The CBI action comes days after it questioned former Family Welfare Minister of the state, Babu Singh Kushwaha, who is a prime accused in the scam, and his close aide BSP MLA, Ram Prasad Jaiswal. According to sources, residences of some doctors and medicine suppliers were also covered in the operation.

India today reiterated that the law of the land will prevail with regard to the killing of two Indian firshermen by Italian crew, off the Kerala coast. Talking to media persons in New Delhi after Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Steffan De Mistura called on the Secretary-West, M. Ganapathi in the Ministry of External Affairs, the External Affairs Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin asserted that the country's judicial system is open, free and fair.

We have a free and independent Judiciary and it is best if the law of the land takes its own course.

Talking to newsmen, Mr. Mistura expressed happiness that Italian experts have been allowed to conduct a ballistic test to seek the truth.

They are allowing Italian experts to be present during this crucial issue of ballastic test is a sign of wanting transparency and to make sure that we all feel comfortable with the proceedings and that will help all of us.

The Kerala High Court today directed the Cochin Port authorities, not to grant permission for the Italian vessel Enrica Lexie to sail from the port till 5 pm on Monday. A Division Bench comprising passed the interim order on an appeal filed by the wife of one of the fishermen killed by Italian marines. The appeal was against a single bench order detaining the vessel until a bank guarantee of 25 lakh rupees is furnished.

Meanwhile, the Italian vessel Enrica Lexie has been brought back to Cochin Port for ballistic examination and inspection of weapons on board.

The BJP National President Nitin Gadkari has ruled out reinstating former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister of Karnataka until he is absolved of all corruption charges. Speaking to media persons after inaugurating the Chintan Manthan Baithak in Bangalore today, the Party President however admitted that there are problems in the state BJP, which will be resolved through dialogue.

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has asked the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police as well as District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police of Chennai to investigate death of five suspected robbers in a police encounter in Chennai. NHRC, while acting on a complaint based on media reports, issued notices to them in this regard.

In its notice, the Commission has directed them to respond within eight weeks along with the Magisterial inquiry report, the post-mortem report and the independent investigation report into the incident as per the guidelines of the Commission.

The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mrs. Ambika Soni today said, the Government is not in favour of censorship for the media. Mrs. Soni said this in New Delhi today after giving away the International Press Institute, India Chapter Award for Excellence in Journalism-2011, jointly to Tehelka and The Week magazines. She said, the government is against any content regulation and would favour self regulation by the media to address issues of public debate, adding that Act in this regard should be adhered to.

We all want self regulation. The cable regulatory act which has been passed by the Parliament should not be violated.

Government has cancelled the licences of three NGOs active in the Kudankulam region after a Home Ministry inquiry revealed that they were using funds meant for social causes to fuel the anti-nuclear protests. Union Minister V Narayanasamy today said, these NGOs were found to be diverting foreign funds for the anti-nuclear campaign in Kudankulan in Tamil Nadu. He said, the government had taken action after it found that some NGOs, receiving funds from the US and Scandinivian countries, were spending huge amounts of money on the agitation.

Mr. Narayanasamy said, NGOs were found to be violating the FCRA guidelines by not using the funds for the cause they were received for. He said the Prime Minister's observation on anti-nuclear activists using foreign funds came from the inquiry.

Falling for the third straight session, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange dropped 155 points, or 0.9 percent, to close below the 18,000 level, at 17,924 today, on continued profit- booking by investors. The Nifty declined 54 points, or 1 percent, to 5,429. But stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea rose between 0.1 percent and 1.3 percent. The rupee appreciated 26 paise, to 48.93 against the dollar. Gold slipped 100 rupees, to 28,940 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. But silver spurted 900 rupees, to 58,300 rupees per kilo. And climbing to a fresh nine-month high, US crude oil futures approached 109 dollars a barrel, while Brent crude stood near 124 dollars a barrel. Pradeep Kumar, AIR News.)

In an appeal to the trade unions, the Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mr. Kharge has assured trade unions that the government is always open to discuss the issues relating to labour and resolve the same amicably through consultations.

Bangladesh today said, it will not tolerate any anti-India activity on its soil and gave an assurance that the much awaited extradition treaty between the two countries would be signed soon. At a joint press conference in New Delhi with Home Minister, P Chidambaram, Bangladesh Home Minister Shahara Khatun said, like India, her country too was a victim of terrorism and it would do everything to eradicate the menace from its soil. She said this after the Home Minister-level dialogue between the two sides.

Mr. Chidambaram said, the extradition pact was in the final stages of consideration by the Bangladesh government. The treaty would facilitate handing over of ULFA leader Anup Chetia, currently lodged in a Dhaka jail, to India.

The Indian Home Minister said India has given visas to 5 lakh Bangladeshi nationals to travel to India and therefore there was no reason for any Bangladeshi to cross over illegally.

A group of over 60 countries and multilateral agencies are meeting in Tunisian capital, today to call upon the Syrian Government to stop immediately the crackdown and allow humanitarian aid to reach the affected people. The opposition activists in Syria said shelling by the security forces in the besieged city of Homs continues and over 52 persons were killed on Thursday.

In Pakistan, suicide bombers attacked a police station, killing at least four police officers. Authorities said, three attackers, armed with guns and hand grenades, stormed the station early today in the city of Peshawar.

The bombers opened fire while entering the compound and then detonated their explosives. Six police officers were wounded in the assault. Officials said the station was targeted because it is one of the largest in Peshawar and houses hundreds of new police recruits.

The Indian Women today entered the finals of Olympics Hockey Qualifying round, defeating Italy one-nil. At the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi, the winning goal for India was scored by Ritu Rani in the 55th minute of the play. India will clash with South Africa in the finals on Sunday.

In other matches for women, Ukraine beat Poland by 1-nil and South Africa defeated Canada, 4-1.

In the Olympics Hockey Qualifiers for men, the match between India and Poland is now in progress at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi. Both teams were evenly poised each scoring one goal, till the half time break. If India wins the match, it will enter the finals to be held at the same stadium on Sunday.

The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Prasar Bharati, Mr. Jawahar Sircar has categorically said, there is no scope of sensationalisation in AIR and DD News despite provocation from private channels. Talking to AIR in Kolkata , Mr. Sircar said that the tradition in this regard has to be maintained at any cost. Mr. Sircar stressed the need for better use of the Direct to Home (DTH) services for All India Radio and Doordarshan programmes to reach more people.
