पंजाब, उत्तरप्रदेश, उत्तराखंड, मणिपुर और गोवा में विधानसभा चुनाव के बाद नई सरकार के गठन के लिए राजनीतिक गतिविधियां तेज हो रही हैं।
पंजाब में शिरोमणि अकाली दल के अध्यक्ष सुखबीर सिंह बादल ने आज चंडीगढ़ में अपनी पार्टी के नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों की बैठक बुलाई है। आज शाम चंडीगढ़ में पार्टी की कोर समिति की भी बैठक होगी, जिसमें राजनीतिक स्थिति पर चर्चा की जाएगी। शिरोमणि अकाली दल और भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों की संयुक्त बैठक अब आज के बजाय कल होगी। इस बैठक में गठबंधन के नेता का चुनाव किया जाएगा। राजनीतिक सूत्रों के अनुसार नई सरकार को ग्यारह मार्च को शपथ दिलाई जा सकती है। इस बीच राज्यपाल शिवराज वी पाटिल ने १३वीं विधानसभा भंग कर दी है। इससे राज्य की १४वीं विधानसभा के गठन का रास्ता साफ हो गया है।

उत्तर प्रदेश में राज्यपाल बी एल जोशी आज सोलहवीं विधानसभा के गठन की अधिसूचना जारी करेंगे।
इससे पहले मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी उमेश सिन्हा नव निर्वाचित विधायकों की सूची राज्यपाल को सौंपेंगे। अधिसूचना जारी हाने के बाद चुनाव आचार संहिता हटा ली जाएगी।

इस बीच समाजवादी पार्टी के अखिलेश यादव को मुख्यमंत्री बनाने की कई नेताओं की मांग के बीच, पार्टी विधायक दल की बैठक अब शनिवार को होने की संभावना है।

समाजवादी पार्टी के नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों की बैठक होली बाद दस मार्च को लखनऊ में बुलाई गई है। इसमें विधायक दल के नेता का औपचारिक रूप से चुनाव होगा। पार्टी के प्रदेश अध्यक्ष अखिलेश यादव और राष्ट्रीय महासचिव किरणमय नंदा ने कहा है कि मुलायम सिंह यादव राज्य के अगले मुख्यमंत्री होंगे और पार्टी के ससंदीय बोर्ड की बैठक में यह सर्वसम्मति से निर्णय लिया गया है। पार्टी के संसदीय बोर्ड की बैठक कल लखनऊ में हुई थी। मुलायम सिंह यादव ने राजभवन में राज्यपाल से मुलाकात की है। पार्टी सरकार बनाने का अपना औपचारिक दावा विधायकों की बैठक के बाद प्रस्तुत करेगी। मुख्यमंत्री मायावती ने अपना इस्तीफा राज्यपाल को सौंप दिया है।

उत्तराखंड में सरकार के गठन के लिए कांग्रेस और भारतीय जनता पार्टी दोनों की राजनीतिक सरगर्मी जारी है। कांग्रेस विधायक दल ने अपना नेता चुनने का अधिकार पार्टी अध्य+क्ष सोनिया गांधी को सौंप दिया है।
राजनीतिक पर्यवेक्षकों का मानना है कि सरकार के गठन में समय लग सकता है, क्योंकि निर्दलीय, बी एस पी, और उत्तराखंड क्रांति दल पी के विधायक किसी एक पार्टी को समर्थन देने पर अभी कोई राय नहीं बना सके हैं।

मणिपुर विधानसभा चुनाव में दो तिहाई से अधिक बहुमत हासिल करने के बाद अब कांग्रेस पार्टी अपनी रणनीति तैयार करने में जुटी है।

मणिपुर में विधानसभा चुनाव खत्म होने के बाद राजनीतिक सरगर्मियां बढ़ गई हैं। ६० में से ४२ सीटें जीतकर दो तिहाई से अधिक बहुमत हासिल करने बाद कांग्रेस ने तीसरी बार सरकार बनाने के लिए प्रयास तेज कर दिये हैं। इसी सिलसिले में कांग्रेस के दो केंद्रीय पर्यवेक्षकों ने कल देर रात तक मुख्यमंत्री इबोबी सिंह प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष और नवनिर्वाचित कांग्रेस विधायकों के साथ कांग्रेस विधायक दल का नेता चुनने के लिए विचार विमर्श किया। केंद्रीय पर्यवेक्षकों द्वारा आज पार्टी हाईकमान को दिल्ली में अपनी रिपोर्ट सौंपे जाने की उम्मीद है। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए के इम्फान से इरोमचा शर्मा साथ राजीव रुस्तगीं।

श्री मनोहर पारिकर को गोवा के नए मुख्यमंत्री पद की शपथ लेंगे। वे भारतीय जनता पार्टी और महाराष्ट्रवादी गोमांतक पार्टी गठबंधन सरकार का नेतृत्व करेंगे। उन्हें दो निर्दलीय विधायकों का समर्थन भी प्राप्त है। चालीस सदस्यीय गोवा विधानसभा के चुनाव में भारतीय जनता पार्टी को २१ और महाराष्ट्रवादी गोमांतक पार्टी को तीन सीटें मिली हैं।

कांगे्रस के कोर गु्रप की बैठक कल नई दिल्ली में प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह के आवास पर हुई। इसमें प्रधानमंत्री के अलावा पार्टी अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी और अन्य सदस्यों ने हिस्सा लिया। समझा जाता है कि बैठक में संसद के बजट सत्र के बारे में विचार-विमर्श किया गया।

सरकार, देशवासियों के बायोमीट्रिक आंकड़े जुटाने के काम में मदद देने के लिए भारतीय विशिष्ट पहचान प्राधिकरण को वैधानिक अधिकार देने संबंधी विधेयक संसद के मानसून सत्र में पेश करेगी। योजना आयोग के उपाध्यक्ष मोन्टेक सिंह अहलुवालिया ने कल नई दिल्ली में कहा कि बजट सत्र में अधिक कामकाज होने की वजह से विशिष्ट पहचान प्राधिकरण से संबंधित विधेयक मानसून सत्र में पेश किया जा सकेगा। योजना आयोग से ऐसे विधेयक का प्रारूप तैयार करने को कहा गया है, जिससे प्राधिकरण को वैधानिक मान्यता मिल सके। इस समय यह प्राधिकरण सरकार के आदेश के तहत काम कर रहा है।

नई दिल्ली में कल राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटिल ने २०११ के स्त्री शक्ति पुरस्कार प्रदान करते हुए कहा हालांकि पिछले दशक में देश में स्त्री-पुरुष अनुपात में सुधार हुआ है, इसके बावजूद यह अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अनुपात से कम है।

अमरीका ने एक भारतीय गैर सरकारी संगठन चिन्तन को महिलाओं और बालिकाओं के सशक्तीकरण के लिए पहले अभिनव पुरस्कार के लिए चुना है। ये पुरस्कार राशि रॉंक फेलर फाउंडेशन देगा। हरित क्षेत्र में रोजगार, समर्थन और समुदाय का संगठन करके पर्यावरणीय न्याय में वृद्धि और पारिस्थितिकी संतुलन बनाने की दिशा में काम करने के लिए चिन्तन को चुना गया है।

तमिलनाडु सरकार ने तमिल कवयित्री अव्‌वइयर के नाम पर महिलाओं के लिए वार्षिक पुरस्कार शुरू करने की घोषणा की है। राज्य की मुख्यमंत्री जे जयललिता आज ये पुरस्कार प्रदान करेंगी।

रंगों का त्यौहार होली आज देश भर में हर्षोल्लास के साथ मनाया जा रहा है। इस अवसर पर राष्ट्रपति, उप राष्ट्रपति और प्रधानमंत्री ने देशवासियों को शुभकामनाएं दी हैं। राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने अपने संदेश में कहा है कि रंगों का त्यौहार होली लोगों की जिंदगी में खुशी, आशा और संतुष्टी लाता है। उप राष्ट्रपति मोहम्मद हामिद अंसारी ने कहा है कि यह त्यौहार वसंत के आगमन का प्रतीक है, जो शांति, खुशियां और राष्ट्रीय एकता को बढ़ावा देता है। प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा है कि रंगों का त्यौहार होली देश की समृद्ध और विविध सांस्कृतिक विरासत का हिस्सा है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह त्यौहार भाई-चारे और सद्भाव के साथ मनाया जाता है।
राजधानी में आज एयरपोर्ट मैट्रो सेवा, दिल्ली मेट्रो और दिल्ली परिवहन निगम की बसें दोपहर दो बजे तक बंद रहेगी।

रंगों और उमंगों का त्योहार होली आज समूचे उत्तर प्रदेश में भी उत्साह और धार्मिक उल्लास के साथ मनाया जा रहा है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि राज्य में आज सुरक्षा के कड़े इंतजाम किए गए हैं।
पूरे राज्य में होली का माहौल कल रात से होलिका दहन के बाद से ही दिखाई दे रहा है। बहुत सी जगहों पर लोग खासकर बच्चों ने समूहों में निकलकर होली खेलना शुरू कर दिया है। बच्चों के हाथों में स्टाइलिश पिचकारी इस माहौल को एक नया रंग दे रही है। परंपरागत होली के मशहूर मथुरा, वृंदावन और वाराणसी में बड़ी संख्या में लोग होली मनाने पहुंचे हैं। होली के अवसर पर राज्यभर में सुरक्षा के व्यापक इंतजाम किये गये हैं। पुलिस पीएसी के साथ-साथ रैपिड एक्शन फोर्स भी तैनात की गई है।

रवि नाम से लोकप्रिय प्रख्यात संगीतकार रविशंकर शर्मा का लम्बी बीमारी के बाद कल रात मुम्बई में निधन हो गया। वे ८६ वर्ष के थे, उन्होंने ७० से ज्यादा हिन्दी फिल्मों और १४ मलयालम फिल्मों को संगीतबद्ध किया। उन्होंने अपनी अंतिम सांस बॉम्बे अस्पताल में ली। तीन मार्च १९२६ को दिल्ली में जन्मे रवि की लोकप्रिय रचनाओं में चौदहवीं का चॉद हो, तोरा मन दर्पण कहलाये, बार-बार देखो हजार बार देखो, मिलती है जिन्दगी में मोहब्बत कभी-कभी, और ओ मेरी ज+ौहरा ज+बीं जैसे सदाबहार गीत शामिल हैे।

आशा भोसले की आवाज में शास्त्रीय संगीत से सजी इस सुरीली धुन के रचनाकार रवि ने कभी शास्त्रीय संगीत नहीं सीखा, बचपन में पिता के गाए भजन सुने, ख्ुाद हारमोनियम और दूसरे साजों से सबक लिए। घर खर्च चलाने के लिए इलेक्ट्रिशियन का काम किया, पर मन नहीं माना और १९५० में गायक बनने की चाह लिए बंबई पहुंच गए। हेमंत कुमार ने आनंदमठ में वंदेमातरम्‌ की रिकॉर्डिंग में कोरस में गाने का मौका दिया।

फिर रवि ने मुडकर नहीं देखा और आशा भोसले से लेकर महेंद्र कपूर तक एक से एक नायब आवाजों के साथ हिट संगीत देते रहे।

Political activities are taking place in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Manipur to form new governments. In Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has convened a meeting of the newly elected legislators of his party at Chandigarh today. A meeting of the core committee of the party will also be held at Chandigarh in the evening to discuss the political situation, while a joint meeting of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP legislators has been postponed till tomorrow. Political sources said, the new government may take oath on 11th of this month. Meanwhile, Punjab Governor Shiv Raj V. Patil has dissolved the 13th Punjab Vidhan Sabha thus paving the way for the 14th Vidhan Sabha. In Uttar Pradesh, notification for constitution of the 16th assembly is being issued today by the governor Mr. BL Joshi. Our correspondent reports that state Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha will submit the list of the newly elected MLAs to the Governor before the notification. After notification, the model code of conduct imposed by the Election Commission will be lifted from the state. More from our correspondent;

"Meeting of newly elected MLAs of Samajwadi Party has been called on 10th of this month after Holi festival to elect its new leader. Earlier this meeting was scheduled on yesterday. President of state unit of the Party Akhilesh Yadav and its one of the general Secretary Kironmoy Nanda have announced that Mulayam Singh Yadav will be next chief Minister. They said that in the meeting of Party`s Parliamentary Board it was decided unanimously. Mulayam Singh Yadav met the Governor at Raj Bhawan. SP has termed it a courtesy meeting. In Uttarakhand, the Congress Legislature Party has authorised Party President Sonia Gandhi to elect the its new leader. Our correspondent reports that political experts say, formation of a government will take time in the state as Indepdents, BSP and UKD(P) MLAs are still not clear on the issue of support. After gaining an over two-third majority in the Manipur Assembly elections, the Congress party high command has sent Luzinho Faleiro and Hemant Biswa Sarma as central observers to decide on the further course of action. Our correspondent has filed this report;

"After day-long hectic consultations by the two central observers of Congress party Luizinho Faleiro and Hemanta Biswa Sarma with newly elected legislators and state leaders, election of CLP leader has been left to the party high command.With this all eyes are on 10 Janpath to decide who will become the new Chief Minister of Manipur. In Goa, Manohar Parrikar will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the state on Friday evening. He will be heading the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party combine. Parrikar will also take the support of two independent candidates. The strength of the combine has already reached twenty six in the forty-member assembly.

A meeting of the Congress core group was held at the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's residence in New Delhi yesterday. The meeting was attended by Dr Singh, Party President Sonia Gandhi and other members of the party. The core group is understood to have deliberatied on the upcoming budget session of Parliament.

Today is International Women's Day. The day is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This day is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. In India, seminars, symposia and other programmes are being organised to mark the day. Addressing a function in New Delhi yesterday after presenting the Stree Shakti Puraskar for the year 2011, the President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil said that though the gender ratio has risen in the last decade, it falls short of the global ratio. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced the institution of an award for women in the name of Tamil Poetess 'Avvaiyar.'

An Indian NGO, Chintan has been chosen for America's first Innovation Award for the Empowerment of Women and Girls. The Award funded by the Rockefeller Foundation through the Secretary's International Fund for Women and Girls will be formally announced by Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and the Rockefeller Foundation President Dr Judith Rodin on Friday. In a statement in Washington, the State Department said, the Secretary's Innovation Award is given to 'Chintan' in support of its work to reduce ecological footprints and increase environmental justice amongst the informal sector through green jobs, advocacy and community organising. Chintan has been selected for the award along with NGOs from Kenya and Tanzania.

The government will introduce a bill during the Monsoon Session of Parliament to give legislative powers to the Unique Identification Authority of India, UIDAI to facilitate its work relating to collection of biometric data of residents. Talking to reporters in New Delhi yesterday, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said, there are other things to be done in the Budget Session. The Planning Commission, which is providing administrative support to the Authority, has been asked to draft the Bill that would provide legal sanctity to the UIDAI. The Authority is currently working under an executive order. Earlier, the bill for providing legislative powers to the authority was put off by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance headed by former Finance Minster Yashwant Sinha in December.

The Supreme Court has ruled that Doctors possessing medical degrees from an off-shore overseas campus cannot practice in India if the certificate awarded to them is not recognised by the country in which the college is located. A bench of justices R M Lodha and H L Gokhale passed the ruling dismissing a bunch of appeals by students of the Tamil Nadu-based Vinayaka Medical Research Foundation, challenging refusal of the Medical Council of India to recognise their degree from the varsity's off-shore campus in Thailand. The Medical Council of Inidia had refused to recognise the degree on the ground that the same was not recognised by Thailand.

Holi the festival of colours is being celebrated across the country today. The President, Vice President and the Prime Minister have greeted the nation on the ocassion. In her message, the President Mrs Pratibha Devisingh Patil said that Holi is a festival of colours that heralds joy, hope and fulfilment in the lives of people. In a message the Vice President, Mohammed. Hamid Ansari said, this festival marks the onset of spring and will bring peace happiness and promote national integration. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, in his message, has said that the festival of colours is a part of the country's rich and diverse cultural heritage. Holi is being celebrated with fun, fervour and religious enthusiasm across Uttar Pradesh today. Our correspondent reports that strict security arrangements have been made in the state today.

Australia will clash with Sri Lanka in the third and deciding final of the tri-nation ODI Cricket series at the Adelaide today. Both teams are evenly placed from the earlier two finals played on Tuesday and Sunday. Australia will go without its skipper Michael Clarke due to his serious left hamstring injury. Noted musician Ravi Shankar Sharma, popularly known as Ravi, passed away in a Mumbai Hospital yesterday due to cardio-respiratory arrest. The 86-year old music maestro composed music for several Hindi and Malayalam films, such as ‘Waqt’, ‘Neel Kamal’, ‘Phool Aur Patthar’, ‘Humraaz’, ‘Nikaah’, ‘Do Badan’, ‘Aankhen’, ‘Chaudhvin Ka Chand’ and ‘Gumraah’. "Ravi had no formal training in classical music. He learned music from listening to his father sing bhajans. In 1950, he decided to shift to Bombay and become a professional singer. He was discovered by Hemant Kumar, who hired him to sing backing vocals in Vande Mataram from the film Anand Math Ravi. Ravi gave several hit songs.

He was also instrumental in making Mahendra Kapoor a popular singer in Bollywood. In 1982, he gave music for the Hindi film and one of the film's songs Dil ke armaan aansooyon main beh gaye sung by Salma Agha won her the Filmfare Best Female Playback Award."

चुनाव के नतीजे आने के बाद पांच राज्यों की राजधानियों में नई सरकारें बनाने के लिए राजनीतिक गतिविधियां तेज हो गइर्ं हैं। पंजाब में प्रकाश सिंह बादल को आज शिरोमणि अकाली दल विधायक दल का नेता चुना गया।
हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि शिरोमणि अकाली दल और भाजपा विधायकों की एक संयुक्त बैठक कल चण्डीगढ़ में होगी और बाद में यह गठबंधन नई सरकार बनाने का दावा पेश करेगा। शिरोमणि अकाली दल और भाजपा ने राज्य की ११७ सदस्यीय विधानसभा में ६८ सीटें जीती हैं।
उत्तरप्रदेश में शनिवार को लखनऊ में समाजवादी पार्टी के नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों की बैठक के बाद पार्टी सरकार बनाने का अपना दावा औपचारिक रूप से पेश करेगी। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि पार्टी ने मुलायम सिंह को अगला मुख्यमंत्री बनाना तय कर लिया है।

मणिपुर में अखिल भारतीय कांग्रेस कमेटी के दोनों पर्यवेक्षकों ने प्रदेश इकाई के नेताओं और नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों के साथ विचार-विमर्श किया। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि नई सरकार का गठन होली के पांच दिन के उत्सव के बाद होगा।
कांग्रेस के दो केंद्रीय पर्यवेक्षक लूई जिनो फलेरो और हेमेंत विश्वशर्मा मणिपुर के मुख्यमंत्री ओकरम इबोबी सिंह, प्रदेश पार्टी अध्यक्ष और नव-निर्वाचित कांग्रेस विधायकों से मिलने के बाद आज नई दिल्ली लौट गए। नई दिल्ली में कांग्रेस पर्यवेक्षक, पार्टी अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी को अपनी रिपोर्ट सौपेंगे। ऐसा माना जा रहा है कि मणिपुर में कांग्रेस विधायक दल के नेता के नाम पर अंतिम निर्णय सोनिया गांधी ही लेंगी। हालांकि नव वर्तमान मुख्यमंत्री राज्य विधानसभा चुनावों में पार्टी को तीसरी जीत दिलाने वाले ओकर इबोबी सिंह को विधायक दल के नेता चुने जाने की संभावना को नकारा नहीं जा सकता। इंफाल से राजीव रस्तोगी।
उत्तराखंड विधानसभा चुनाव के खंडित जनादेश को देखते हुए कांग्रेस और भारतीय जनता पार्टी, दोनों ही नवनिर्वाचित निर्दलीय तथा बहुजन समाज पार्टी विधायकों का समर्थन पाने के प्रयासों में जुटे हुए हैं।
कांगे्रस ७० सदस्यीय विधानसभा में ३२ सीटें लेकर सबसे बड़ी पार्टी के रूप में उभरी है और भारतीय जनता पार्टी को एक सीट कम मिली है।
प्रदेश कांगे्रस इकाई के उपाध्यक्ष सूर्यकांत धसमाना ने दावा किया है कि एक हते के अन्दर सरकार बन जायेगी।
उन्होंने कहा है कि तीन निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार समर्थन के लिए आगे आ गये हैं और सरकार बनाने के लिए समर्थन हासिल करने के लिए यूकेडी-पी के साथ बातचीत अंतिम चरण में है।
दूसरी तरफ भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने दावा किया है कि वह भी सरकार बनाने की दौड़ में है और गैर कांगे्रसी विधायकों का समर्थन हासिल करने के लिए बातचीत जारी है। पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता भगत सिंह कोशियारी ने कहा है कि निर्दलीय और अन्य विधायक सरकार बनाने के लिए उनकी पार्टी को समर्थन देंगे।
गोवा में मनोहर पर्रिकर को कल शाम पांच बजे राज्यपाल के० शंकरनारायणन पणजी में कम्पाल के एस०ए०जी० ग्राउंड में शपथ दिलायेंगे। भाजपा-एमजीपी गठबंधन के कुछ मंत्रियों को भी कल शपथ दिलायी जायेगी।

कांग्रेस ने मध्यावधि चुनाव की संभावना से इंकार किया है। पार्टी नेता और केंद्रीय मंत्री जयंती नटराजन तथा राजीव शुक्ला ने कहा कि यूपीए सरकार पूरी तरह स्थिर है और लोकसभा चुनाव, २०१४ में ही होंगे। श्रीमती नटराजन ने कहा कि कांग्रेस के अपने सभी सहयोगियों के साथ बहुत अच्छे संबंध हैं। कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी पहले ही कह चुकी हैं कि सभी सहयोगी दलों के साथ सम्पर्क जारी रहेंगे और यूपीए सरकार अपना कार्यकाल पूरा करेगी। श्री शुक्ला ने कहा कि उत्तर प्रदेश विधानसभा चुनाव में समाजवादी पार्टी के प्रदर्शन का लोकसभा चुनाव पर कोई असर नहीं पड़ेगा।

रेल मंत्री और तृणमूल कांग्रेस नेता दिनेश त्रिवेदी ने आज पुरजोर शब्दों में कहा कि तृणमूल कांगे्रस यूपीए सरकार को नहीं गिरायेगी। उन्होंने मध्यावधि चुनाव के बारे में अपनी टिप्पणी को यह कहते हुए खारिज किया कि वह एक मंच पर महज विचारों का आदान-प्रदान था। उन्होंने जोर देकर कहा कि इसे किसी और संदर्भ में नहीं लिया जाना चाहिए।

मध्य प्रदेश में मुरैना जिले के बाडमौर इलाके में आज अवैध खनन माफिया ने आई पी एस अधिकारी नरेन्द्र कुमार की हत्या कर दी। इलाके में अवैध खनन की जानकारी मिलने पर एस.डी.ओ. नरेन्द्र कुमार ने वहां अवैध तरीके से पत्थर ले जा रही टे्रक्टर ट्राली को रोकने की कोशिश की, तभी ट्राली चालक ने उन्हें कुचल दिया। गंभीर रूप से घायल नरेन्द्र कुमार को ग्वालियर ले जाया गया जहां उनकी मृत्यु हो गयी। चालक को गिरफ्‌तार कर लिया गया है। राज्य के गृहमंत्री उमाशंकर गुप्ता ने कहा है कि दोषियों के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की जायेगी।

केरल में राज्य विधानसभा की समिति ने पाया है कि पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री वी एस अच्युतानंदन ने अपने बेटे वी. ए. अरूण कुमार को सूचना और संचार प्रौद्योगिकी अकादमी का निदेशक नियुक्त करके अपने पद और अधिकार का दुरूपयोग किया। रिपोर्ट आज सदन में पेश की गई। रिपोर्ट में यह भी कहा गया है कि इससे पहले बिना पूरी योग्यता और अध्यापन अनुभव के श्री कुमार को मानव संसाधन विकास संस्थान में नियुक्ति किया गया और उन्हें पदोन्नति दी गई।

जम्मू-कश्मीर में सीमावर्ती शहर राजौरी में एक धार्मिक जुलूस पर पत्थर फैंकने के बाद तनाव पैदा होने और बाद में आंसू गैस के गोले छोड़े जाने के बाद आज कर्यू लगा दिया गया। पुलिस सूत्रों के अनुसार, कर्यू एहतियात के तौर पर लगाया गया। शांति बनाए रखने के लिए शहर के संवेदनशील इलाकों में और सुरक्षा दस्ते तैनात किए गए हैं। किसी अप्रिय घटना की खबर नहीं है। जुलूस में शामिल लोग रविवार को विश्व हिंदू परिषद के नेता प्रवीण तोगड़िया की टिप्पणियों का विरोध कर रहे थे।

ओबीसी कोटे में जाटों को आरक्षण के मुद्दे पर आज भी हरियाणा में विरोध जारी रहा। आंदोलनकारियों ने मय्‌यर में एक फैक्ट्री को नष्ट कर दिया और फतेहाबाद में गाजुवाला में पुलिस पर पत्थर फेंके। गाजुवाला में स्थिति तनावपूर्ण बतायी जाती है। हिसार के उपायुक्त अमित कुमार अग्रवाल के अनुसार भैनीमियाखुर्द में एक मार्ग को छोड़कर सभी राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग खोल दिये गये है। उन्होंने कहा कि यातायात सामान्य ढंग से शुरू हो गया है तथा कानून और व्यवस्था की स्थिति में सुधार हुआ है।
इस बीच, खाप नेताओं ने आरक्षण मुद्दे पर भावी रणनीति तय करने के लिए कल जींद में बैठक बुलाई है।

रंगों का त्यौहार होली आज देश भर में पारंपरिक श्रद्धा और हर्षोल्लास के साथ मनाया गया। इस अवसर पर राष्ट्रपति, उप राष्ट्रपति और प्रधानमंत्री ने देशवासियों को शुभकामनाएं दी। वृंदावन के इस्कॉन मंदिर के होली कार्यक्रमों में बड़ी संख्या में विदेशी पर्यटकों ने भाग लिया। वहीं मथुरा के बरसाने में होली की धूम रही। देश के अन्य हिस्सों से भी होली मनाए जाने की खबर है। विदेशों में भी होली पर कई रंगा-रंग कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए गए।
लेकिन मुम्बई में होली के रंग उस समय फीके पड़ गए, जब बच्चों सहित एक सौ ४० से अधिक लोग जहरीले रंग के इस्तेमाल से बीमार पड़ गए, उनमें से अनेक लोगों को अस्पताल में भर्ती करना पड़ा। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि यह घटना धारावी के शास्त्रीनगर इलाके में हुई।

After the poll verdicts, Political activities have picked up in the five state capitals on the formation of new governments. Prakash Singh Badal will be sworn in as Punjab Chief Minister next Wednesday and Manohar Parrikar in Goa tomorrow. Newly elected Samajwadi Party MLAs will meet in Lucknow on Saturday to elect their leader with the Party's parliamentary Board already approving Mulayam Singh Yadav for the Chief Minister post. Some members suggested his son Akilesh singh Yadav for the post.

Congress members of the new Manipur Assembly have left the choice of selecting the Chief Minister to party chief Sonia Gandhi though star campaigner and state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh cannot be ruled out for the slot again. In Uttarakhand, uncertainty continues over formation of a new government following a split verdict in the state with Congress claiming the support of Independents as also the BJP to form the Government.

Prakash Singh Badal was elected leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal Legislature Party in Punjab at a meeting in Chandigargh today. Addressing a rally of SAD workers after paying obeisance at Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib, he announced free education for all girl students up to MA. Earlier, the scheme was upto graduation. Badal also announced extension of free bicycle scheme to girl students of 9th and 10th class.

Our Correspondent reports that a joint meeting of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP Legislators will be held at Chandigarh tomorrow and the alliance will stake its claim later to form the new government.

In Madhya Pradesh, mining mafia killed an IPS officer Narendra Kumar in Banmore area of Morena district today. After getting a tip off about illegal mining in the area, Sub Divisional Officer of Police, Banmore Narendra Kumar went there and tried to stop a tractor-trolley illegally carrying stones.

The Driver of the tractor-trolley crushed the young police officer by overturning the tractor-trolley over him. Narendra Kumar was seriously injured in the incident and he was referred to Gwalior where he succumbed to injuries. Narendra Kumar was an IPS officer of 2009 batch.

In Haryana, the protest for reservation for Jats in OBC turned violent in Narnound this evening. The administration has deployed Rapid Action Force in some pockets of Narnound. The force took flag march to control the situation.

Educational institutions in Narnound will remain closed tomorrow. The Police has registered a case against the RAF jawan at Hansi Police station, who had fired and killed a young boy of Mayyer village on Tuesday during clash between police and protesters.

The agitators destroyed a factory at Mayyer and pelted stones on Police at Gajuwala in Fatehabad. The situation is said to be tense at Gajuwala. The agitators also jammed link roads and national highways at Panipat, Jind and Hisar including Rohtak-Panipat road.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Curfew was today imposed in border town of Rajouri district in Jammu Division following communal tension after stone-pelting on a religious procession and subsequent tear gas shelling. According to police sources curfew was imposed in Rajouri border town this morning as a precautionary measure because of the tension. Additional security personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas of the town to maintain peace and tranquility. No report of any untoward incident has been reported so far.

In Kerala, the Committee constituted by the State Assembly has found that former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has misused his office and authority in facilitating posting to his son V A Arun Kumar as Director of the Information and Communication Technology Academy. The report placed in the House today notes that earlier without enough qualification and teaching experience he also got posting and promotion in the Institute of Human Resource Development, IHRD.

Addressing a press conference, Chairman of the Committee V D Satheesan said that the committee came to the conclusion after analysing 5000 page records. He said that present opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and former Education minister M A Baby gave conflicting reports before the Committee. The allegation against V A Arun Kumar was one of the main political issues during the last assembly elections in Kerala.

Holi, the festival of colour was celebrated today with a riot of colour and revelers thronging lanes and by-lanes dancing to the accompaniment of drums in several parts of the country.

However, the festivities were marred in Mumbai as more than 140 people, mostly children, suffered colour poisoning and many were hospitalized. The incident occurred in Shastrinagar area of Dharavi this afternoon where several people developed allergic reaction to the colours and rushed to the Lokmanya Tilak municipal general hospital at Sion. Our correspondent quoting hospital sources says that 144 cases of colour poisoning came to the hospital and 50 people were admitted.

The Hospital sources informed that toxins in the colour are said to be the cause of the infection. The officials informed that patients reportedly suffered from dizziness and vomiting. In Punjab, lakhs of devotees have gathered at Sri Anand Pur Sahib to celebrate the three day festival, which began yesterday.

In West Bengal also,large number of people have gathered in Shantiniketan to witness the Vasanta Utsav started by Gurdev Rabindranath Tagore.

President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh greeted the people on the occasion.

Pakistan's Supreme Court today directed Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to ask Swiss authorities to revive graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari and to submit a report on the issue on March the 21st. The apex court said in an order that Gilani should write a letter to the Swiss authorities without waiting to seek the advice of his legal experts. It asked him to file a report giving details of the action taken by him at the next hearing.

Osama Bin Laden's three widows have been charged by Pakistan with illegally entering the country. Pakistan's interior Minister Rehman Malik said the women, reported to be two Saudis and a Yemeni, had been charged but did not say when the hearing took place. The wives and about 10 children were taken into custody last May when US commandos raided their safe house. A Pakistani legal expert says that the maximum term the women could get is five years.

India's star cricketer Rahul Dravid has called a press conference in Bangalore tomorrow, prompting speculation that he may announce his retirement from international cricket. Though there has been no official word from him the speculation was fuelled by the fact that the BCCI president N Srinivasan will be present at the press conference. The 39-year-old Dravid has been playing International cricket for over 15 years. He took 210 catches mostly in the slip cordon.
