भारत और पाकिस्तान व्यापार के नए मार्ग खोलने पर सहमत हो गए हैं। नई दिल्ली में कल वाणिज्य मंत्री आनंद शर्मा और पाकिस्तान के वाणिज्य मंत्री मखदूम अमीन फहीम की वार्ता के बाद जारी संयुक्त वक्तव्य में कहा गया है कि दोनों देशों ने अपने-अपने अधिकारियों से और सीमा शुल्क चौकियां खोलने की संभावानाओं का पता लगाने को कहा है। इससे भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच व्यापार की संभावनाएं बढ़ेगीं और आपसी आर्थिक सम्बंध और प्रगाढ़ होंगे, ताकि दोनों देशों के लोगों की समृद्धि बढ़ सके। दोनों देश दक्षिण एशियाई मुक्त व्यापार समझौते-साफ्टा के तहत युक्तिसंगत सूची बनाने के उद्देश्य से एक दूसरे के शुल्क प्रावधानों पर विचार करने पर भी सहमत हुए। भारत और पाकिस्तान अगली गृह सचिव स्तर की वार्ता में आपसी व्यापार को बढ़ाने के लिए व्यापार वीजा की नई व्यवस्था की औपचारिक घोषणा कर सकते हैं। लेकिन तिथि अभी तक तय नहीं हुई है।-----------

प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह कल नई दिल्ली में आंतरिक सुरक्षा पर मुख्यमंत्रियों के सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन करेंगे। केन्द्रीय गृह मंत्री पी. चिदम्बरम सम्मेलन में उद्घाटन भाषण देंगे। आधिकारिक विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार सम्मेलन में देश में आंतरिक सुरक्षा स्थिति की समीक्षा की जाएगी। पुलिस सुधार, क्षमता निर्माण और मौजूदा नए उपायों पर मुख्य रूप से चर्चा होगी। आतंकवाद निरोधक क्षमताओं और खुफिया उपायों को मजबूत करने, अपराध तथा क्राइम एण्ड क्रिमिनल ट्रैंकिंग नेटवर्क सिस्टम, वाम उग्रवाद, सीमा प्रबंधन और तटीय सुरक्षा पर भी विचार-विमर्श किया जाएगा।-----------
दिल्ली में नवगठित तीन नगर निगमों के चुनाव के लिए आज वोट डाले जा रहे हैं। कुल दो सौ बहत्तर सीटों के लिए दो हजार चार सौ से ज्यादा उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में हैं। दक्षिणी और उत्तरी दिल्ली नगर निगमों में से प्रत्येक में एक सौ चार और पूर्वी दिल्ली नगर निगम में ६४ वार्ड हैं। मतदान शाम साढ़े पांच बजे तक चलेगा। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि दिल्ली राज्य निर्वाचन आयोग ने स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष मतदान सुनिश्चित करने के लिए व्यापक प्रबंध किये हैं।दिल्ली नगर निगम चुनाव को लेकर मतदाताओं में काफी उत्साह देखा जा रहा है। इस चुनाव में एक करोड़ से ज्यादा मतदाता अपने मताधिकार का प्रयोग करेंगे। दिल्ली राज्य चुनाव आयोग ने स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव कराने के व्यापक इंतजाम किए हैं। चुनाव कार्य में ७५ हजार से ज्यादा कर्मचारी तैनात किए गए हैं। अगले वर्ष होने वाले दिल्ली विधानसभा चुनाव को देखते हुए निगम का यह चुनाव कांगे्रस और विपक्ष बीजेपी के लिए महत्वपूर्ण समझा जा रहा है। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए आनंद कुमार।

यूपीए सरकार महात्मा गांधी ग्रामीण रोजगार गारंटी कार्यक्रम, मनरेगा जैसी योजना शहरी क्षेत्रों के लिए बनाने पर विचार कर रही है। केंद्रीय संसदीय कार्यमंत्री पवन कुमार बंसल ने कल नई दिल्ली में जारी एक विज्ञप्ति में यह जानकारी दी। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि समाज के सभी वर्गों को स्वास्थ्य सुविधाएं मुहैया कराने के लिए स्वास्थ्य का अधिकार विधेयक तैयार किया जा रहा है।-----------
पश्चिम बंगाल की मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी के आपत्तिजनक कार्टून इंटरनेट पर डालने वाले जादवपुर विश्वविद्यालय के प्रोफेसर पर हमले के सिलसिले में कल चार लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया। पुलिस ने बताया है कि प्रोफेसर अंबिकेश महापात्रा द्वारा शिकायत दर्ज कराने पर ये गिरफ्तारियां की गई हैं। शिकायत में कहा गया है कि इंटरनेट पर कार्टून डालने के बाद बृहस्पतिवार की रात को पंद्रह लोगों के एक गुट ने उनसे मारपीट की थी। बाद में चारों लोगों को रिहा कर दिया गया।-----------
जम्मू-कश्मीर में गर्मी के मौसम आरंभ होने से पहले सेना और सुरक्षा एजेंसियों ने आज श्रीनगर में एक बैठक कर राज्य में सुरक्षा परिदृश्य की समीक्षा की। इस मौसम में प्राकृतिक रास्ते खुलने से विदेशी आतंकवादियों की घुसपैठ बढ़ जाती है। एक रक्षा प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि बैठक में सेना, पुलिस, केंद्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल, सीमा सुरक्षा बल, खुफिया एजेंसियों तथा नागरिक प्रशासन के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने हिस्सा लिया। सुरक्षा से जुड़े कई मुद्दों पर विचार विमर्श किया गया।-----------
संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद ने सीरिया में युद्धविराम की निगरानी के लिए पर्यवेक्षक भेजे जाने का प्रस्ताव सर्व सम्मति से पारित कर दिया है। सीरिया में संयुक्त राष्ट्र के छह पर्यवेक्षकों का अग्रिम दल आज पहुंचेगा। शुरु में तीस पर्यवेक्षक भेजे जाएंगे जिनकी तादाद कुछ दिन में बढ़ा कर २५० कर दी जाएगी। भारत ने सुरक्षा परिषद के सभी १५ सदस्यों के साथ मिल कर प्रस्ताव के पक्ष में मतदान किया। भारत ने सीरिया में संयुक्त राष्ट्र पर्यवेक्षक तैनात किए जाने के सुरक्षा परिषद के प्रस्ताव का स्वागत किया है। आबु धाबी में कल आकाशवाणी से बातचीत में विदेश राज्य मंत्री ई अहमद ने कहा कि इससे सीरिया में शांति और स्थिरता बनाए रखने में मदद मिलेगी।-----------

देश के पूर्वी तट के आस पास कल रात से मछली पकड़ने पर ४७ दिन का प्रतिबंध लगाया गया है। मछलियों के प्रजनन के मौसम में मछली संरक्षण के उद्देश्य से भारत सरकार ने यह प्रतिबंध लगाया है। ब्यौरा हमारे संवाददाता से।एक जून की मध्य रात्रि तक कोई भी नौका या ट्रॉलर समुद्र में मछली पकड़ने नहीं उतरेगा। मछली पालन विभाग ने मछुआरों से सहयोग की अपील की है, ताकि मछलियों की तादाद कम न हो। आंध्रप्रदेश के विशाखापत्तनम में लगभग सभी छह सौ मोटर बोट तट पर लंगर डाले खड़ीं है। मछुआरे प्रतिबंध की अवधि के दौरान सरकार से वित्तीय सहायता और की मांग कर रहे हैं, क्योंकि इस दौरान वे बेरोजगार रहेंगे। हालांकि परम्परागत तरीके से मछली पकड़ने पर रोक नहीं होगी। विशाखापत्तन से हेनरी की रिपोर्ट के साथ समाचार कक्ष से मैं सतपाल।

उत्तर प्रदेश के ७५ जिलों में आज से पल्स पोलियो अभियान की शुरूआत हो रही है। राष्ट्रीय टीकाकरण दिवस के अवसर पर यह अभियान चलाया जा रहा है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि इसके लिए एक लाख केन्द्र स्थापित किए गए हैं।यात्रा कर रहे मलिन बस्तियों और असंगठित क्षेत्रों में रह रहे बच्चों को पोलियों की दवा पिलाने के लिए लगभग दस हजार स्पेशल दस्ते बनाए गए हैं और इन्हें रेलवे और बस स्टेशनों और हवाई अड्डों पर लगाया गया है। आज पोलियो बूथ पर आकर दवा लेने से जो बच्चे छूट जाएंगे, उनके लिए कल से चिन्हित तीन करोड़ ४३ लाख से ज्यादा घरों में जाकर दवा पिलाने के लिए ६१ हजार से ज्यादा टीमें गठित की गई है। पड़ोसी देश से आने वाले बच्चों को पोलियों की रूराक पिलाने के लिए पोलियो बूथ बनाए गए है। राज्य में पिछले वर्षों से पोलियो संक्रमण का एक भी मामला सामने नहीं आया है। आकाशवाणी समाचार, लखनऊ।

India and Pakistan have agreed to open new trade routes. A joint statement issued at the end of the talks between Commerce Minister Anand Sharma and his Pakistani counterpart Makhdoom Mohammad Amin Fahim in New Delhi yesterday said, both ministers directed their officials to explore the possibilities of opening more land customs stations between both countries. This would enhance greater economic engagement between the business communities of both sides and deepen bilateral cooperation for the mutual prosperity of their people.
It was agreed that discussions would continue at the official level, to draw a roadmap for further reductions in the SAFTA sensitive lists. While reducing the SAFTA lists, both sides would appropriately consider requests received for tariff lines to be removed.
Both India and Pakistan are likely to formally announce a new business visa regime to boost bilateral commerce at the next secretary level talks between the two countries.
The leaders expressed satisfaction at the ongoing efforts for complete normalization of trading of goods and services, including investment, between the two countries. India and Pakistan also expressed satisfaction at the joint and coordinated efforts that have been made for making the new gates at the Attari Integrated Check Post functional for trade.

Former Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir will be Pakistan's new High Commissioner to India. Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Ahmed Khan announced in Islamabad yesterday that 60-year-old Bashir has been appointed the new envoy to India in place of Shahid Malik.
Speaking to a New Delhi English daily, Salman Bashir said, working to ensure Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Pakistan will be a priority for him. On India's demand for bringing Hafiz Saeed and the other 26/11 perpetrators to justice, he said the two sides need to move on all tracks.

Army and security agencies reviewed the security scenario of Jammu and Kashmir at a meeting in Srinagar yesterday. A defence spokesman said, General Officer Commanding of Srinagar-based Chinar corps Lt General S A Hasnain co-chaired the core group meeting with Director General of State police Kuldeep Khoda at the Badami Bagh cantonment in Srinagar. In West Bengal, four persons were arrested yesterday following a complaint of assault lodged by a Jadavpur University professor, who posted a cartoon on the internet allegedly showing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in poor light. According to the police, the arrests were made after Prof. Ambikesh Mohapatra lodged a complaint that he was assaulted by a group of about 15 people on Thursday night for posting the cartoons. However all four, were given bail on personal security bonds of 500 rupees each by the Alipore court.

The UN Security Council has voted unanimously for sending observers to monitor the ceasefire in Syria. An advance team of six UN observers would be arriving in Syria today. 30 observers will be sent to begin with and their number will be increased to 250 over the coming days. India voted for the resolution along with the entire 15 member council. India has welcomed the UN security Council decision to deploy UN Observers in Syria. Talking to AIR in Abu Dhabi yesterday, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, E.Ahamed said the move will help in maintaining peace and stability in Syria.

The fresh round of talks between Iran and six world powers over Tehran’s disputed nuclear program came to an end in Istanbul. The US and other countries hailed the meeting as a constructive development. They have also agreed to meet again next month. The European Union’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who led negotiations for the six world powers, said in Istanbul that the next round of talks with Iran in Baghdad on 23rd May. Saeed Jalili, the chief Iranian negotiator said, there had been differences of opinion but some important points had been agreed upon.

External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna arrived on a three day visit to the UAE capital Abu Dhabi last night. Mr. Krishna will co-chair the 10th session of the India-UAE Joint Commission with his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan today. More from our West Asia correspondent;

A 47-day ban on fishing along the east coast of the country came into effect from last night. Our correspondent reports that the ban was imposed by the Government of India in an effort to conserve fish in their breeding season. More from our correspondent;
"No boat or trawler would venture into the sea till mid-night of June 1. The Fisheries Department has asked the fishermen to cooperate the efforts to increase fish wealth during the recess. Almost all 600 mechanised boats at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh were anchored in the fishing harbour. State as well as federal authorities will be strictly monitoring the ban along the entire east coast. The fishermen are demanding the government for financial assistance and supplies of ration during the ban period. Traditional crafts have however been exempted from venturing into the sea. In Uttar Pradesh, a five day long pulse polio Immunisation drive begins today in all 75 districts of the state. Our correspondent reports that this drive is being initiated under the National Immunisation Day.
"More than 10 thousand transit and mobile teams have been deployed at railway and bus stations, apartments in urban areas and slum dwellers for Immunisation to the children in journey and for the children living in the scattered places. During the drive, about 61 thousand teams have been set up for visiting door to door to target 3 core 43 lakhs houses from tomorrow to administer polio drops to the children who would not have visited Immunisation booths. Not a single case of polio infection has come out in the state from last two years and if continues for one more year then state will be declared Polio Free. केन्द्र ने उच्चतम न्यायालय को बताया है कि उसने सरकारी सब्सीडी पर हज यात्रा, जीवन में केवल एक बार करने की सीमा निर्धारित करने का फैसला किया है। इससे पहले सब्सिडी पर पांच वर्ष में एक बार हज+ पर जाने की अनुमति थी। उच्चतम न्यायालय के समक्ष पेश शपथपत्र में सरकार ने कहा है कि नये दिशा निर्देशों का उद्देश्य यह सुनिश्चित करना है कि उन आवेदकों को प्राथमिकता दी जाए जो कभी हज पर नहीं गए। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने २४ फरवरी को इस मामले में कुछ प्रश्न उठाये थे, जिनके उत्तर में केन्द्र ने ये शपथपत्र प्रस्तुत किया है।

केन्द्र सरकार ने जम्मू-कश्मीर में पचास-पचास करोड़ रुपये की तीन पर्यटन परियोजनाओं को मौजूदा वित्त वर्ष में मंजूरी देने पर सहमति जताई है। ये परियाजनाएं कश्मीर के सूफी सर्किट, जम्मू के स्प्रीचुअल सर्किट और लेह में बुद्धिस्ट सर्किट के रूप में चिन्हित की गई है। यह जानकारी जम्मू कश्मीर के पर्यटन और संस्कृति मंत्री नवांग रिगजि+न जोरा ने जम्मू में दी। उन्होंने बताया कि इस संबंध में दो परियोजनाओं के लिए विस्तृत परियोजना रिपोर्ट को अंतिम रूप दे दिया गया है और तीसरी परियोजना के लिए विस्तृत परियोजना रिपोर्ट तैयार होने के अंतिम चरण में है। श्री जोरा ने बताया कि जम्मू में पर्यटन स्थलों के विकास और वहां जरूरी सुविधाएं मुहैया कराकर जम्मू की पर्यटन सम्भावनाओं को बढ़ाया जा रहा है। ----

पाकिस्तान में बन्नू जेल पर आतंकवादियों के हमले के बाद वहां से ३८१ कैदी भाग गये हैं। आतंकवादियों ने आज सवेरे रॉकेटों और हथगोलों से हमला किया था। पुलिस ने बताया कि इन कैदियों में २२ ऐसे हैं, जिन्हें मौत की सजा सुनाई जा चुकी है। हमले में जेल के चार कर्मचारी घायल हो गये। पुलिस ने घेरा डाल लिया और भाग रहे कुछ कैदियों को पकड़ लिया। तहरीके-तालिबान-पाकिस्तान ने हमले की जिम्मेदारी ली है और कहा है कि वह २५ आतंकवादियों को छुड़ाने में सफल रहा है। ----

अफगानिस्तान में सुरक्षा बलों ने पिछले चौबीस घंटों के दौरान तालिबान के ४७ आतंकवादियों को मार गिराया और ३१ घायल हो गए। अफगानिस्तान के गृहमंत्री ने एक वक्तव्य जारी कर बताया कि राष्ट्रीय सेना और नाटो के नेतृत्व वाले संयुक्त बलों के सहयोग से अफगान राष्ट्रीय पुलिस ने काबुल सहित कई प्रांतों में ११ संयुक्त अभियान चलाये, जिसमें ये आतंकवादी मारे गए और २१ गिरतार कर लिये गये। ----

The Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of CPI (Maoist), holding the legislator, has withdrawn the name of dreaded Maoist Cheda Bhusanam alias Ghasi from the release list of prisoners to be freed.

The release of abducted BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka is getting complicated with every passing day. A new audio message released by Comrade Aruna on behalf of Maoist leader Jagabandhu of Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee says the MLA would be released if 29 prisoners are released excepting dreaded Maoist Cheda Busanam alia Ghasi. Maoists have said they would release Hikaka in Balipeta of Maoist-hit Narayanpatna of Koraput district only if the MLA's wife comes with all the prisoners along with a lawyer. They have warned the state administration not to send any police and intelligence officials during the swapping process. Odisha Home Secretary, Upendra Nath Behera, told All India Radio at Bhubaneswar that bail applications are being organised for 15 activists of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha and eight Maoists for the release of the abducted MLA. He said as per the demand of 29 prisoners, the government has decided to facilitate bail for 23 prisoners from Koraput district and two others from Kandhamal district. The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that it has decided to restrict Haj pilgrimage at government subsidy to Muslims only as a "once in a lifetime" affair as against the existing policy of "once in five years". In an affidavit filed before the apex court, the government said, the new guidelines have been framed to ensure that priority is given to those applicants who have never performed Haj. It said, priority will be given to those who are in the 70 plus category and those who had unsuccessfully applied thrice earlier for the subsidy.
The Centre's affidavit comes in the backdrop of certain searching questions raised by the apex court on February 24. A bench of Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai had directed the Centre to provide details of subsidy given by it and criteria adopted for allocation of seats to state committees.

Centre has agreed to sanction three Tourism Mega Projects (TMP) of 50 crore rupees each to Jammu and Kashmir during current financial year. These three mega projects have been identified as Sufi Circuit for Kashmir, Spiritual Circuit for Jammu and Buddhist Circuit for Leh. This was stated by J&K Minister for Tourism and Culture, Nawang Rigzin Jora in Jammu. He said that in this regard Detailed Project Report (DPRs) of two projects have already been formulated and finalized and the DPR of third project is in final stage. Jora said that pilgrim tourism potential of Jammu is being explored fully by developing pilgrim sites and creation of infrastructure there. He said after development of Shiv Khouri holy temple, focused attention would be given to develop other holy shrines and temples like Sudh Mahadev and Chandi Mata.

In Jammu and Kashmir a terrorist hideout was busted in Ramban District yesterday. Acting on a tip off, troops of Rashtriya Rifles and J&K Police launched a joint search operation in Maswa Deeda area and came across the hide out. They smashed the hideout from where they recovered a large amount of arms and ammunitions. It is believed the hideout was used by Lashkar-e-Toiba ultras.

In Assam, three NSCN-Issac-Muivah cadres, including a self-styled lieutenant, were apprehended in a joint operation by Assam Rifles and police at Halflong in North Cachar Hills district last night. Security forces recovered two grenades, one nine mm pistol and an extortion note from the possession of the ultras. Police said the militants were camping in the area to expand their organizational activities and launch its extortion drive.The interrogation of the militants are on.

Around20 per cent voting is reported in the first four hours of the Delhi Municipal Corporations elections. Voting to the all 272 seats, spread over the three newly constituted Municipal Corporations of Delhi is in progress. According to the Delhi State Election Commission official, so far voting is peceful at all 11543 polling stations across the city and and no untoward incident has been reported. Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Commission to ensure free and fair election.
AIR correspondent reports that the polling started at 8.00 A.M. and it will continue till 5.30 P.M. Over 2400 candidates are in the fray. Both South and North Delhi Municipal Corporations have 104 wards each while East Delhi has 64 wards. These local bodies have been carved out from the earlier Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The elections for the five municipal corporations in Maharashtra is on. The polling for Malegaon, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Latur, Chandrapur and Parbhani municipal corporations began at 7.30 in the morning and will continue till 5.30 in the evening.

The President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has said that electoral reforms are absolutely necessary to maintain the country’s secular and democratic character. In an interview with a leading daily published today she said education, empowering women and focus on moral values should at the heart of the reforms.

In Pakistan, 381 prisoners escaped from the District Jail in Bannu‚ following an attack by militants with rockets and hand grenades early this morning. Police said those escaped also included twenty-two prisoners awaiting execution. Four jail personnel were injured in the attack. Police cordoned off different outlets and re-arrested some prisoners. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack and said they succeeded in freeing twenty-five militants.

The External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna has welcomed the UN Security Council decision to send observers in Syria as a step in the right direction. He hoped that the move will bring in peace in Syria. The External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Syed Akbaruddin told AIR in Abu Dhabi that Mr. Krishna spoke to UN Special envoy Kofi Annan from Moscow before the resolution came for a vote in the UN Security Council.
The Minister said , he expects the Syrian opposition to renounce violence and co-operate fully with Kofi Annan’s peace plan.Mr. Krishna is meeting Indian Ambassadors from the Gulf region in Abu Dhabi today to discuss the developments in the region and their implications for India. In Uttar Pradesh, booths have been established at public places, while mobile teams of health workers are administering polio drops to the children on move. In Madhya Pradesh, Pulse Polio drops are being administered to children up to five years across the state today. AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that arrangements have also been made for giving polio drops at railway stations and bus stands.
The health department has made elaborate arrangements to administer pulse polio drops to more than one crore children in the state. More than 76 thousand polio vaccination booths have been set up for this purpose. With a view to cover all the children up to five years in each and every pocket, about two thousand mobile teams and more than two thousand transit camps have been set up. More than one lakh 70 thousand workers and 13 thousand supervisors have been deployed at the polio booths. A low-intensity earthquake measuring 4.1 on Richter scale shook parts of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours today. A disaster management cell official said in Srinagar, the epicentre of the tremor which rocked at 2.20 AM, was India-China border in Ladakh region. It was located 209 km east of Leh town near the border between Ladakh and Xinjiang region of China.The tremor, however, was not felt in the Kashmir Valley.There were no reports of any casualties.

To root out corruption in implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), the state government recently introduced to pay workers through biometric smart cards, which is a first in the entire north-eastern region. State government has also performed better than national average in implementation of MGNREGA in giving ‘person days’ to every eligible household. A strong earthquake of 6.5-magnitude struck off the coast of the South Pacific island of Vanuatu this morning. The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at a relatively shallow depth of eight kilometres, around 150 kilometres south east of the capital Port Vila. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage and no tsunami warning was issued. A moderate 5.9-magnitude quake also struck Indonesia's Sunda Strait early today but no tsunami warning was issued. There were no immediate reports of damage. In Afghanistan, security forces have killed 47 Taliban militants and injured 31 others over the past 24 hours. The Interior Ministry, in a statement released today said, the Afghan National Police in harmony with the National Army and backed by the NATO-led Coalition Forces launched 11 joint operations in several provinces including Kabul during which 47 armed insurgents were killed, 31 wounded and 21 others were arrested. However, it did not say if there were any casualties on security forces.

ओडिशा में बीजू जनता दल विधायक झिना हिकाका का अपहरण करने वाले माओवादियो ने अपनी मांगे पूरी करने के लिए सरकार को दी गई समय सीमा बुधवार तक बढ़ा दी है। अपहरणकर्ता गुट सीपीआई-माओवादी की आंध्र-ओडिशा सीमा विशेष क्षेत्रीय समिति ने विधायक की रिहाई के बदले जिन कैदियों को छोड़ने की मांग की थी उनमें से खूंखार माओवादी चेडा भूषणम उर्फ घासी का नाम वापस ले लिया है। समिति के नेता ने अपने गुट के वकील को भेजे ताजा संदेश में कहा है कि चासीमुलिया आदिवासी संघ और सीपीआई माओवादियों के २९ कैदियों की रिहाई के बाद विधायक को छोड़ दिया जाएगा। उन्होंने कहा है कि वे अपने वकील की उपस्थिति में श्री हिकाका को उनकी पत्नी को सौपेंगे।
बाद में माओवादी हिंसा पर एक अलग सत्र होगा, जिसमें माओवाद से प्रभावित नौ राज्यों के मुख्यमंत्री भाग लेंगे।

सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र की तेल कंपनियों ने जेट ईंधन की कीमत में १७० रूपये प्रति किलो लीटर की कटौती की घोषणा की है। आज मध्य रात्रि से दिल्ली में जेट ईंधन की कीमत १६९ रूपये ३० पैसे यानी शून्य दशमलव दो-पांच फीसदी घटकर ६७ हजार ६३१ रूपये प्रति किलो लीटर हो जाएगी। इंडियन ऑयल कारपोरेशन ने इसकी घोषणा की है।

अफगानिस्तान में आज तीसरे पहर राजधानी काबुल में राजनयिक क्षेत्र के पास बंदूकधारियों ने रॉकेटों और स्वचालित हथियारों से कई हमले किए। अफगान पुलिस और नैटो सूत्रों के अनुसार स्थिति नियंत्रण में है। काबुल के किसी भी हिस्से से किसी के मरने की खबर नहीं है। नैटो के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सहायता बल-आई एस ए एफ ने ट्विटर पर पुष्टि की है कि शहर में किसी के हताहत होने की खबर नहीं है।राजनयिक इलाके में संयुक्त राष्ट्र के कार्यालय और नैटो के नेतृत्व वाले आई एस ए एफ मुख्यालय और कई देशों के दूतावास हैं। हमलावरों ने सबसे पहले केन्द्रीय काबुल के जम्बाक चौक के पास काबुल स्टार होटल को निशाना बनाया। दूसरा निशाना अफगानिस्तान की संसद को बनाया गया, जहां कई हमलावरों ने नजदीक की इमारतों से गोलीबारी की। शहर के कुछ अन्य स्थानों पर भी गोलीबारी और विस्फोट हुए लेकिन पुलिस ने किसी के हताहत होने की पुष्टि नहीं की है।
तालिबान ने कहा है कि यह तो हमलों की शुरूआत है।
काबुल में अलर्ट घोषित कर दिया गया है। अमरीकी दूतावास और आई एस ए एफ ने सतर्कता की घोषणा की है और अपने कर्मचारियों को अलर्ट रहने को कहा है। शहर के कई इलाकों से रूक रूक कर गोलीबारी की आवाज सुनाई पड़ रही है। भारतीय दूतावास और वहां काम करने वाले सभी कर्मचारी सुरक्षित हैं। मीडिया की खबरों के अनुसार तालिबान ने इन हमलों की जिम्मेदारी ली है।
अफगानिस्तान में सर्दी के बाद का मौसम विद्रोहियों का युद्ध का समय माना जाता है इन दिनों उत्तर और उत्तर पूर्वी अफगानिस्तान की बर्फ से ढके इलाकों में गहरी बर्फ पिघलने लगती है और पहाड़ी दर्रों के रास्तों में विद्रोहियों की आवाजाही आसान हो जाती है। इधर पिछले कुछ सालों से अफगानिस्तान में एक नई बात देखने में आई है पिछले साल सर्दियों में हमलों में कोई कमी नहीं देखी गई थी पूरे साल हमले लगातार जारी रहे। इस बीच अफगानिस्तान में सुरक्षा हस्तातंरण की प्रक्रिया भी दूसरे चरण में विदेशी सेनाएं देश की सुरक्षा की जिम्मेदारी अब अफगान सुरक्षाबलों को सौंप रही हैं। यह ऐसा वक्त है जब अफगान सुरक्षा बलों को बेहद चौकना रहना होगा।

पाकिस्तान में बन्नू जेल पर आतंकवादियों के हमले के बाद वहां से ३८१ कैदी भाग गये हैं। आतंकवादियों ने आज सवेरे रॉकेटों और हथगोलों से हमला किया था। पुलिस ने बताया कि इन कैदियों में २२ ऐसे हैं, जिन्हें मौत की सजा सुनाई जा चुकी है। हमले में जेल के चार कर्मचारी घायल हो गये। पुलिस ने घेरा डाल लिया और भाग रहे कुछ कैदियों को पकड़ लिया। तहरीके-तालिबान-पाकिस्तान ने हमले की जिम्मेदारी ली है और कहा है कि वह २५ आतंकवादियों को छुड़ाने में सफल रहा है।-------
दिल्ली में नवगठित तीन नगर निगमों की २७२ सीटों के लिए आज शांतिपूर्वक लगभग ५८ प्रतिशत मतदान होने की खबर है। राज्य चुनाव आयुक्त राकेश मेहता ने संवाददाताओं को बताया कि मतदान की वास्तविक प्रतिशत कल सुबह तक पता चलेगा, क्योंकि कई मतदान केन्द्रों पर शाम साढ़े पांच बजे के बाद भी मतदान जारी था। नगरनिगम चुनाव में आज मतदान केन्द्रोंपर मतदाताओं की लम्बी कतारें देखी गईं। राज्य चुनाव आयोग के द्वारा चलाये गये जागरूकता अभियान के कारण मत प्रतिशत में बढ़ोत्तरी हुई। कुछ स्थानों पर इलेक्ट्रानिक वोटिंग मशीनों में आई खराबी की शिकायतों को छोड़कर मतदान शांतिपूर्ण सम्पन्न हो गया। आयोग ने निष्पक्ष मतदान सुनिश्चित करने के लिए मतदान केन्द्रों की गतिविधियों की विडियों रिकार्डिंग करवाई है। वहीं आयोग ने मतदान केन्द्रों पर ७५ हजार से ज्यादा कर्मचारियों को तैनात किया था। १७ अप्रैल को होनी वाली मतगणना के दिन ही पता चलेगा कि जनता ने किस के सिर पर सेहरा बाधा है।

भारत और संयुक्त अरब अमीरात के संयुक्त आयोग के अधिकारी स्तर की बैठक अबुधाबी में हुई। सोमवार को विदेश मंत्री एस.एम. कृष्णा आयोग के मंत्रिस्तरीय बैठक की सहअध्यक्षता संयुक्त अरब अमीरात के विदेश मंत्री शेख अब्दुल्ला बिन जायेद अल नाहयाम के साथ करेंगे। दोनों देश दोहरे कराधान से बचने और पासपोर्ट वीजा नियमों को सरल बनाने के समझौते पर दस्तखत करेंगे। बैठक के एजेंडे में आर्थिक और व्यापारिक सहयोग बढ़ाने का मुद्दा सबसे ऊपर है। सन २०१०-११ में दोनों देश के ६७ बिलियन डॉलर का कारोबार हुआ जिसकी ओर भी आगे ले जाने की गुंजाइश है।

In Afghanistan, gunmen launched multiple attacks with rocket propelled guns and automatic weapons across the capital Kabul this afternoon. NATO sources say, at least 14 insurgents were killed in the attack. However, according to Afghan police and NATO sources, the situation is under control. There is no report of any casualty from any part of the city. A spokesman for NATO's International Security Assistance Force, ISAF, has confirmed through twitter that there are no reports of casualties from any place in the city so far.
Several huge explosions and bursts of gunfire were heard near the high security diplomatic area which houses embassies of many countries including UN offices and the NATO led ISAF headquarters. The attackers first targeted Kabul Star hotel near Zambaq Square of central Kabul which is very near to the US embassy and the ISAF Headquarter. The next target was the Afghan Parliament where several attackers exchanged fire from nearby buildings. Gunfire and blasts also took place in some other places of the city but police has not confirmed any casualties from anywhere.
The whole of Kabul city has been put on maximum alert and there is no traffic on the roads. The US embassy and the ISAF have sounded alarm and warned their staff to remain on maximum alert. Sounds of intermittent gunfire can still be heard from different parts of the city. Indian embassy and all the staff working there are safe. According to media reports, the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Taliban says, the attacks are the start of the spring offensive. More from our correspondent
Second phase of security transition in Afghanistan is continuing and foreign troops are handing over responsibility of defending the country to the Afghan security forces. Today’s coordinated attacks show that Afghan security forces will have to be more vigilant and take every precaution so that insurgents do not get undue advantage of security transition in the country. Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement said it was in constant touch with the Embassy in Kabul and all Indians are reported to be safe.
ITBP Director-Gneral Ranjit Sinha said there was no threat to the Indian embassy as it was located three to four km away from the scene of the attack this afternoon by the Taliban gunmen.

In Pakistan, 381 prisoners escaped from the District Jail in Bannu‚ following an attack by militants with rockets and hand grenades early this morning. Police said those escaped also included twenty-two prisoners awaiting execution. Four jail personnel were injured in the attack. Police cordoned off different outlets and re-arrested some prisoners. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack and said they succeeded in freeing twenty-five militants.

External Affairs Minister S.M.Krishna has welcomed the UN Security Council decision to send observers in Syria as a step in the right direction. He hoped that the move will bring peace in Syria. The election to the 272 wards spread over three newly constituted Municipal Corporations of Delhi today, passed off peacefully. Delhi State Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta told the media in New Delhi today that around 55 to 58 per cent polling has been reported. He said, the final figure of voting will be available tomorrow.
Elaborate arrangements were made by the Commission to ensure free and fair election. Over 2400 candidates are in the fray. Both South and North Delhi Municipal Corporations have 104 wards each while East Delhi has 64 wards.These local bodies have been carved out from the earlier Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

A new audio message released by Comrade Aruna on behalf of Maoist leader Jagabandhu of Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee says the MLA would be released if 29 prisoners are released excepting dreaded Maoist Cheda Busanam alia Ghasi. Odisha Home Secretary, Upendra Nath Behera, told All India Radio at Bhubaneswar that bail applications are being organised for 15 activists of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha and eight Maoists for the release of the abducted MLA. He said as per the demand of 29 prisoners, the government has decided to facilitate bail for 23 prisoners from Koraput district and two others from Kandhamal district. State-owned oil companies today announced a reduction in jet fuel prices by a marginal 170 rupees per kilolitre. The price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), or jet fuel, in Delhi was reduced by 169.30 rupees per kiloliltre, or 0.25 per cent, to 67,631 rupees effective from midnight tonight. Indian Oil Corporation has made this announcement on behalf of the industry.
The marginal reduction comes on the back of steep hikes in rates effected on March 1, March 16, and April 1st. Our correspondent reports, no immediate comment was available from the airlines on the impact of the price reduction on passenger fares.

The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that it has decided to restrict Haj pilgrimage at government subsidy to Muslims only as a "once in a lifetime" affair as against the existing policy of "once in five years". In an affidavit filed before the apex court, the government said, the new guidelines have been framed to ensure that priority is given to those applicants who have never performed Haj. It said, priority will be given to those who are in the 70 plus category and those who had unsuccessfully applied thrice earlier for the subsidy.
A bench of Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai had directed the Centre to provide details of subsidy given by it and criteria adopted for allocation of seats to state committees.

Registration for this year’s Annual holy pilgrimage to Baba Amarnath shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas will start from the 8th of next month. According to Official sources, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board which operates yatra to holy cave shrine, has designated branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Yes Bank and Cooperative Banks for registration. One hundred Post Offices have also been designated to register the yatris.

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme scheme is being implemented very successfully in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu. The district administration focused attention on the rural areas and started an immense IEC awareness campaign. The district got the National Award for Effective Initiative under MGNREGS for the year 2010-11.
The scheme is being implemented in all the 228 village panchayats in the district. Around two lakh twenty-five thousand people belongs to one lakh fifty seven thousand households were provided job cards under this scheme. Six days of work is being providing to the workers in a week.

A US official says, there may be human remains embedded in the mud of the North Atlantic where the New York-bound Titanic came to rest when it sank 100 years ago. The director of maritime heritage at the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration said forensic evidence indicates signs of human remains at the shipwreck site.
James Delgado said on Saturday that one 2004 photograph shows a coat and boots in the mud. He says the way they are "laid out" makes a "compelling case" it is where "someone has come to rest." He released the full image this week to coincide with the disaster's centenary. It was previously seen in a cropped version.
