राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए यूपीए के उम्मीदवार प्रणब मुखर्जी ने वित्त मंत्री पद से अपना इस्तीफा प्रधानमंत्री को सौंप दिया है। इससे पहले उन्होंने नार्थ ब्लाक के अपने कार्यालय में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में कहा कि राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए उन्हें मिल रहे समर्थन से वे सम्मानित महसूस कर रहे हैं।

आज मैं एक नई यात्रा पर निकलने के लिए तैयार हू। राष्ट्रपति पद के चुनाव के लिए मुझे यूपीए के साथ समाजवादी पार्टी, बीएसपी, जेडीयू, शिवेसना, मार्क्सवादी कम्यूनिस्ट पार्टी, फारवर्ड ब्लाक और दूसरी पार्टियों का समर्थन प्राप्त है। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि वित्त मंत्री के रूप में उन्होंने जनता के हित में कई कड़े फैसले लिए। श्री मुखर्जी राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए अपना नामांकन-पत्र बृहस्पतिवार को दाखिल करेंगे।

उधर, भारतीय जनता पार्टी के राष्ट्रपति पद के उम्मीदवार पी. ए. संगमा ने तृणमूल कांग्रेस प्रमुख और पश्चिम बंगाल की मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी से मुलाकात कर उनसे अपनी उम्मीदवारी के लिए समर्थन मांगा है। श्री संगमा ने आज कोलकाता में सुश्री बनर्जी और उनकी पार्टी के नेताओं के साथ लगभग आधे घंटे बातचीत की। बाद में श्री संगमा ने संवाददाताओं को बताया कि वे बातचीत के परिणाम से संतुष्ट हैं। मैं पश्चिम बंगाल की माननीय मुख्यमंत्री से मिलने आया हॅू। मैं यहां उनसे राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए अपनी उम्मीदवारी का समर्थन देने के लिए निवेदन करने आया हॅू। मैं उनसे बातचीत के नतीजों से काफी खुश हू और बहुत उम्मीद लेकर जा रहा हॅूं। बैठक में उपस्थित तृणमूल कांग्रेस के राष्ट्रीय महासचिव और रेल मंत्री मुकुल राय ने बताया कि श्री संगमा को समर्थन के मुद्दे पर पार्टी के अंदर विचार-विमर्श के बाद ही फैसला लिया जाएगा।

राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के लिए सात और उम्मीदवारों ने अपने नामांकनपत्र भरे हैं। राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के निर्वाचन अधिकारी और राज्यसभा के महासचिव वी के अग्निहोत्री ने दिल्ली के जीवन कुमार मित्तल का नामांकनपत्र रद्द कर दिया है। उन्होंने मतदाता सूची की प्रमाणित प्रतिलिपि और १५ हजार रुपए की जमानत राशि भी नहीं जमा कराई थी। आज तक कुल ३१ लोगों ने अपने नामांकनपत्र भरे हैं, जिनमें से आठ उम्मीदवारों के नामांकनपत्र खारिज कर दिए गए हैं।

राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवीसिंह पाटील ने अति लघु, लघु और मझौले उद्योगों के मंत्री वीरभद्र सिंह का मंत्रिपरिषद से त्याग-पत्र स्वीकार कर लिया है। श्री वीरभद्र ने हिमाचल प्रदेश की एक अदालत द्वारा भ्रष्टाचार के एक मामले में उनके खिलाफ आरोप तय किए जाने के बाद इस्तीफा दे दिया था। अति लघु, लघु और मझौले मंत्रालय का कार्यभार विज्ञान तथा टेक्नोलॉजी मंत्री विलासराव देशमुख को सौंपा गया हैं।

श्री वीरभद्र सिंह ने संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में कहा कि उन्होंने इसलिए त्याग-पत्र दिया है कि अदालत द्वारा उन पर आरोप तय हो जाने के बाद वे पार्टी को असमंजस की स्थिति में नहीं डालना चाहते थे।
मैं नहीं चाहता कि मेरी वजह से मेरी पार्टी को और मेरे प्रधानमंत्री को मेरी सरकार को किसी प्रकार का........लेकिन इसका मतलब यह नहीं है कि मेरे ऊपर जो आरोप लगे हैं वे सही हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि वे हिमाचल प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री रहने के अलावा ५० साल से ज्यादा समय से राजनीति में हैं। उन्होंने दावा किया कि उन्हें फंसाया जा रहा है और कहा कि उनकी ईमानदारी और निष्ठा पर किसी ने भी कभी उंगली नहीं उठायी है।

कांग्रेस ने आशा व्यक्त की है कि श्री वीरभद्र सिंह सभी आरोपों से मुक्त हो जाएंगे और हिमाचल प्रदेश में अपने विरोधियों का सफलतापूर्वक सामना करेंगे। पार्टी महासचिव जनार्दन द्विवेदी ने कहा कि श्री वीरभद्र सिंह पर भ्रष्टाचार के आरोप अभी तक साबित नहीं हुए हैं। उनके विरूद्ध आरोप पत्र पेश हुआ है। वे अपराधी नहीं सिद्ध हुए मामला अदालत में हैं। कानूनी लड़ाई चलेगी और हमे पूरी आशा है कि वे उसमें से साफ आरोपविहीन होकर निकलेंगे।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने श्री वीरभद्र सिंह के त्याग-पत्र का स्वागत किया है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता जगत प्रकाश नाड्डा ने कहा कि भ्रष्टाचार के आरोपों से घिरे अन्य मंत्रियों के खिलाफ भी कार्रवाई होनी चाहिए।

पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी द्वारा भारतीय नागरिक सरबजीत सिंह की फांसी की सजा को आजीवन कारावास में बदल दिए जाने के बाद अब उसे रिहा किया जा रहा है। सरबजीत सिंह को १९९० में पाकिस्तान के पंजाब प्रांत में बम धमाकों के आरोप में पाकिस्तानी अदालत द्वारा मौत की सजा सुनाई गई थी। इन धमाकों में १४ लोगों की मृत्यु हुई थी। सरबजीत सिंह १४ साल से अधिक जेल की सजा काट चुका है। सरकारी सूत्रों ने बताया है कि श्री जरदारी ने अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिया है कि यदि सरबजीत सिंह ने कैद की अवधि पूरी कर ली है, तो उसे छोड़ दिया जाए। सरबजीत सिंह ने अपने को निर्दोष बताते हुए कहा था कि उसे गलत पहचान पर दोषी ठहराया गया है।

भारत और पाकिस्तान के विदेश मंत्रियों की अगले महीने नई दिल्ली में प्रस्तावित बैठक, भारत में इसी दौरान राष्ट्रपति पद का चुनाव होने के कारण स्थगित कर दी गई है। विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता सईद अकबरूद्दीन ने कहा कि बैठक की तारीख में परिवर्तन दोनों देशों के बीच किसी नए तनाव का संकेत नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि नई तारीख तय की जा रही है।अकबरूद्दीन ने कहा कि पाकिस्तान के राजनीतिक घटनाक्रमों को भी ध्यान में रखना होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि लगभग एक सप्ताह पहले न्यायपालिका के फैसले के बाद प्रधानमंत्री यूसुफ रज गिलानी को त्याग-पत्र देना पड़ा था।
ऐसा शुद्ध रूप से दो महत्वपूर्ण कार्यक्रमों की तारीखों के टकराव के कारण किया गया है। पहले जो तारीख निर्धारित की गई थी उसके बाद से पाकिस्तान में जो बदलाव आए है उससे हम सब वाकिफ है और निश्चय ही नई तारीख तय करते वक्त दोनों पक्ष इन बातों का ख्याल रखेंगे। श्री अकबरूद्दीन ने कहा कि संसद का मानसून सत्र २२ जुलाई को शुरू होने वाला है, इसलिए विदेश मंत्रियों की बैठक अब अगस्त के प्रारम्भ में संभव है।

मुम्बई पुलिस ने २००८ के मुम्बई आतंकी हमलों के आरोपी अबू जुंदाल को हिरासत में लेने के लिए दिल्ली की एक अदालत में याचिका दायर की है। अबू जुंदाल इस समय दिल्ली पुलिस के विशेष सैल की हिरासत में है। मुम्बई पुलिस हत्या, हत्या के प्रयास और भारतीय दंड संहिता तथा सशस्त्र कानून के तहत विभिन्न अपराधों के मामलों में उसे हिरासत में लेना चाहती है।
अदालत ने दिल्ली पुलिस को कल तक इस अजर् पर अपना जवाब देने को कहा है। जुंदाल उर्फ अबू हमज उर्फ सैयद जबुद्दीन को दिल्ली पुलिस के विशेष सैल ने इन्दिरा गांधी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाईअड्डे से गिरफ्तार किया था और बृहस्पतिवार को उसे चीफ मैट्रोपोलिटन की अदालत में पेश किया।

झारखंड में कल रात रांची जिले से १३ हजार से अधिक डेटोनेटर और एक टन विस्फोटक बरामद किया गया। इस सिलसिले में तीन संदिग्ध नक्सलियों सहित सात लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधीक्षक ने बताया कि पुलिस ने रांची के पास तुपुदाना में छापा मार कर ये विस्फोटक बरामद किए। उन्होंने बताया कि गिरफ्तार लोग एक वांछित नक्सली कुंदन पाहन को विस्फोटक सौंपने की तैयारी कर रहे थे।

दिल्ली विद्युत नियामक आयोग -डी ई आर सी ने राजधानी में बिजली की दरों में वृद्धि करने की घोषणा की है। यह जानकारी डी ई आर सी अध्यक्ष पी डी सुधाकर ने एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में दी। उन्होंने बताया कि बढी हुई बिजली की दरें एक जुलाई से लागू होंगी। उन्होंने बताया कि घरेलू बिजली दर में लगभग २४ प्रतिशत की वृद्धि करने का निर्णय किया गया है,जबकि औसतन सभी वर्गों में लगभग २१ प्रतिशत की वृद्धि की गयी है। यह फैसला गैस और कोयले के मंहगे होने के कारण किया गया है। उधर, ओर दिल्ली प्रदेश कांगे्रस और प्रदेश भाजपा दोनों ने इस वृद्धि का विरोध किया है।

समूचे उत्तर भारत में गर्मी का प्रकोप जारी है। लंबे समय से मॉनसून का इंतजार कर रही राजधानी दिल्ली में दक्षिण-पश्चिम मॉनसून के अभी आने की संभावना नहीं है। मौसम विभाग ने पहले यह अनुमान लगाया था कि शुक्रवार तक दिल्ली में मॉनसून दस्तक दे देगा। मौसम विभाग के निदेशक डॉक्टर आर सी वशिष्ठ ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि अगले पांच-छह दिनों में राजधानी में मॅानसून की वर्षा होने की संभावना नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि मौसम के लक्षणों में हो रहे बदलाव के कारण मानसूनी हवाएं रुक गई हैं और वे दिल्ली तथा उत्तर पश्चिम भारत की ओर नहीं बढ पा रही हैं।

उधर, अरूणाचल प्रदेश के कई हिस्सों में पिछले एक हफ्ते के दौरान मूसलाधार वर्षा की वजह से बाढ़ आ गई है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि भारी बारिश भूस्खलन के कारण ईटानगर, नहालगन और निरजौली में पेयजल आपूर्ति को भारी नुकसान पहुंचा है। राजधानी क्षेत्र जिला उपायुक्त ने एक नोटिस जारी कर नदी, नालों और पहाड़ियों पर रहने वाले लोगों से सावधानी बरतने को कहा है। जिला उपायुक्त ने कहा है कि लगातार हो रही भारी बारिश को देखते हुए अनाधिकृत स्थानों पर दुघर्टनाओं की संभावनाओं से इंकार नहीं किया जा सकता । उन्होंने अनाधिकृत स्थानों पर रहने वाले लोगों से किसी अन्य सुरक्षित स्थानों पर चले जाने को कहा है। पेयजल आपूर्ति को बहाल करने के लगभग सभी उपाए किए जा रहे हैं। इधर, अंजाव जिला मुख्यालय तेजों हवाई मार्गों पर भारी भूस्खनल के कारण राज्य के अन्य स्थानों से कट गया है। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए ईटानगर से मुरारी गुप्ता।

कुआलालुम्पुर में १९ वर्ष से कम आयु वर्ग के एशिया कप क्रिकेट टूर्नामेंट में भारत ने नेपाल को डकवर्थ लुईस पद्धति से ८१ रन से हराकर सेमीफाइनल में प्रवेश कर लिया। भारत ने पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए निर्धारित ५० ओवर में १७६ रन बनाए। जिसके बाद बारिश के कारण नेपाल को ४७ ओवर में १७३ रन का संशोधित लक्ष्य दिया गया। लेकिन उसकी पूरी टीम ९१ रन पर ही सिमट गई।

मुंबई शेयर बाजार का सेंसक्स २४ अंक बढ़कर १६ हजार ९०७ पर बंद हुआ। वैश्विक बाजारों में मंदी के बावजूद बाजार में ये बढ़त आई। नेशनल स्टाक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी ६ अंक बढ़कर पांच हजार १२१ पर बंद हुआ। रूपया डालर के मुकाबले सिर्फ एक पैसे कमजोर हुआ और एक डालर की कीमत ५७ रूपये २ पैसे दर्ज हुई। सोना दिल्ली के सर्राफा बाजार में ३३० रूपये महंगा होकर ३० हजार ६०० रूपये प्रति दसग्राम दर्ज हुआ। चांदी का मूल्य भी एक हजार दो सौ रूपये के उछाल से ५४ हजार ४०० प्रति किलो हो गया।

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at his residence. Talking to media outside Prime Minister's residence, Mr. Mukherjee said that he has tendered his resignation to the Prime minister. Earlier speaking to newsmen at his North Block office on his last day as Finance Minister, Mr. Mukherjee said, he is hounoured and humbled by the support extended to him as he stands ready for the Presidential elections as the candidate of UPA-II.
Today, I stand ready to embark on a new journey. I feel honoured and humble on my nomination as a candidate to contest the Presidential election by UPA-II supported by Samajwadi Party, BSP, JDU, Shiv Sena, CPIM, Forward Bloc and some other parties.
Pranab Mukherjee said, as finance minister he has taken tough decisions in the interest of the people. He also thanked the media for their appreciation and their criticism and asked them to continue their duty as long he continues in public office. Mr Pranab Mukherjee is to file nomination papers for the Presidential election on Thursday.
Seven more candidates have filed their nomination for the Presidential Election 2012 today. Returning officer for the Presidential Election and Secretary General of Rajya Sabha V K Agnihotri rejected the nomination of Jeevan Kumar Mittal of Delhi for not submitting certified copy of electoral roll entry. Till date 33 nominations were filed by 31 candidates, but eight candidate’s nomination were rejected by the Returning Officer. Former speaker P A Sangma have also not filed his nomination for the Presidential Election yet.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has accepted Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's resignation and forwarded it to the President. In a letter written to Mr. Mukherjee, Dr. Singh said, he has accepted it and forwarded the resignation to the President with the recommendation that it be accepted with immediate effect. The Prime Minister said , the government owes a deep debt of gratitude to him for his invaluable contribution over the last eight years. <><><>
The Presidential nominee of the bjp Mr. P. A. Sangma met the Trinamul Congress Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Ms. Mamta Banerjee to seek her support for his candidature. Mr. Sangma had about 30 minute meeting with Ms. Banerjee and her party leaders in Kolkata this afternoon. Later, Mr. Sangma told newsmen that besides the Presidential poll both the sides discussed the present political situation in the country. I had come to meet honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal. I have come here to request for her support of my candidature in the coming Presidential election. I am very happy with the outcome of the meeting and I am going back with lots of hope.
The All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress and Railway Minister Mr Mukul Roy who was also present at the meeting said that the final decision on the issue will be taken after discussions within the party.
Party will see, party will discuss and then we will intimate the decision of our party later on. There is a time so there is no hurry.

President Pratibha Patil today accepted the resignation of Union Minister Virbhadra Singh who stepped down from his post following framing of corruption charges against him by a Himachal Pradesh court. A Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said, the President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Virbhadra Singh from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect.
78-year-old Singh was Minister for Small, Micro and Medium Industries. The statement said the President has directed that Vilasrao Deshmukh, who is Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences, shall be assigned the additional charge of the Cabinet portfolio held by Singh.
Earlier in the day, talking to media persons in New Delhi, Mr Virbhadra Singh said he did not want to embarrass the party and the Prime Minister following the framing of charges against him by a Himachal Pradesh court.
I don't want that because of me, my party, my Prime Minister and my government faces any embarrasment. I have resigned that does not mean that what ever charges are levelled against me, are true.
The Congress today hoped that Mr Virbhadra Singh will come out clean and free from the charges and face his adversaries in Himachal Pradesh successfully. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwwivedi said that his guilt in the alleged corruption case has not yet been established.
A Charge sheet has been filed against him. He is not proved to be guilty. The matter is in the court and there will be a legal battle. We are hopeful that we will come out of it, clean.
Meanwhile, the BJP today welcomed the resignation of Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Briefing reporters the Party Spokesman Jagat Prakash Nadda said the BJP, however, is not satisfied with Singh's resignation and demands that action should be taken against other ministers who are allegedly facing graft charges.

After being on the death row for 20 years over bombing charges, Indian national Sarabjit Singh is being released with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari today commuting his death sentence. Zardari commuted Sarabjit's death sentence to life term which he has already completed having been in jail beyond 14 years. The 49-year-old Sarabjit, convicted and sentenced to death for alleged involvement in a string of bombings in Punjab in 1990 that killed 14 people has maintained his innocence and said that his was a case of "mistaken identity".
Following the summary or official proposal issued by the presidency, Law Minister Farooq Naek today asked the Interior Ministry to take steps to immediately release Sarabjit as he had completed a life term.
PTI quoting sources said, Sarabjit could be released in the next few days after the Interior Ministry and the Home Department of Punjab complete necessary formalities.

Mumbai Police today moved a Delhi court seeking custody of alleged 26/11 Mumbai terror attack key handler Abu Jundal who is currently in the custody of Special Cell of Delhi Police. The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police approached the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav for Jundal's custody in connection with various cases of murder, attempt to murder and other offences under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, which are being probed by Crime Investigation Department (CID), Mumbai.

A planned meeting between the Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers next month in New Delhi has been postponed due to clash of dates with India’s presidential election. The external affairs spokesman Syed Akbaruddin stressed that the rescheduling was not a sign of any new tensions between the two neighbours. External affairs Minister S.M. Krishna had been scheduled to travel to Islamabad on July 18th to hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar. Akbaruddin said India’s presidential election on July 19th had forced the change of dates.
It is purely a scheduling issue because of conflict of another engagement. So again please do not mix it with the substance of the relationship. Since the original date was fixed, there have been changes that we are all aware of in Pakistan, and these of course will be factored in both by their side and by our side while finalizing on a new date.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained a modest 24 points, or 0.1 percent, to 16,907, amid subdued global markets, today. The Nifty rose 6 points, to 5,121.But stock markets in Japan, China, South Korea, and Singapore declined between 0.1 percent and 0.8 percent. The rupee depreciated just one paise, to close at 57.02 against the dollar. Gold spurted 330 rupees, to 30,600 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. Silver surged 1,200 rupees, to 54,400 rupees per kilo. The elctricity will cost more for the consumers in the national capital as the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission- DERC has announced to increase the existing power tariff charges for the year 2012-13. The new rates will come into effect from 1st of next month.
Briefing reporters, the DERC Chairman P. D Sudhakar said that the domestic tariff of electricity has been raised by 24.15 percent while the commercial tariff by 19.49 per cent and the industrial tariff will go up by nearly 20 percent in the city. He said, however the average increase in all categories will be 20.87 per cent.

In Jharkhand, over 13,000 detonators and one tonne explosives were recovered and seven persons, including three suspected Maoists, were arrested in Ranchi district today. Senior Superintendent of Police Saket Kumar Singh told reporters that police raided some places at Tupudana on the outskirts of Ranchi and recovered the explosives last night. Three Maoists and four arms suppliers were arrested in this connection.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Naushad Alam said the arrested persons were preparing to handover the explosives to Kundan Pahan, the most wanted Maoist. Among several cases, Pahan is wanted in the beheading of Special Branch Inspector Francis Indwar in 2009.

The Centre is planning to increase the financial assistance for NGOs and other organisations to tackle the menace of drug trafficking. Addressing a function on the International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in New Delhi today, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr Mukul Wasnik also stressed the need to create awareness among the youth about the twin evils of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Mr Wasnik said that his ministry will organise a painting competition across the country in November this year to senstize people, especially the youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The much awaited south-west monsoon may not reach the national capital Delhi on Friday as predicted by the Met office earlier. Director, Met department, Dr R.C. Vashisth told AIR News that there will be no monsoon rains in the next five to six days in the capital.
