दक्षिण एशियाई संघ को यूरोपीय संघ की तर्ज पर बनाने पर जोर देते हुए प्रधानमंत्री डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा है कि इस क्षेत्र के देशों को अपनी योग्यता का मिलकर उपयोग करना चाहिए और दक्षिण एशिया को अपनी असल पहचान बनाने के रास्ते में आने वाली बाधाएं दूर करने के लिए काम करना चाहिए। पुदुचेरी विश्वविद्यालय में शांति और विकास के लिए दक्षिण एशिया क्षेत्रीय सहयोग के यूनेस्को मदनजीत सिंह संस्थान का उद्घाटन करते हुए डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि यूरो जोन की घटनाओं का असर दक्षिण एशियाई एकजुटता और अंततः एक दक्षिण एशियाई संध बनाने के प्रयासों पर नहीं पड़ना चाहिए।डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि हम एक ऐसा संयुक्त दक्षिण एशिया बनाने के प्रति अधिक उत्साही नहीं रहे हैं जिससे कि हमारे देश आपसी विकास के जरिए और एक दूसरे की ताकत के बूते पर इस क्षेत्र में आर्थिक और सामाजिक स्वतंत्रता के लिए काम कर सकें।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि दुनिया एक कठिन दौर से गुजर रही है और हाल के वर्षों में यूरोप जिस वित्तीय और आर्थिक संकट से घिर गया है, उससे एशियाई क्षेत्र कई सबक ले सकता है।
स्थिर, समृद्ध और एकजुट यूरोप को दुनिया के लिए जरूरी बताते हुए डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि यूरोपीय परियोजना एशिया सहित विश्व में क्षेत्रीय सहयोग का एक मार्गदर्शी सिद्धांत साबित हुई है।
सार्क के बारे में प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि भारत इस संगठन को मजबूत करने के प्रति वचनबद्ध है। उन्होंने प्रसन्नता व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि दक्षिण एशिया के बारे में कई महत्वपूर्ण प्रयास साकार हो रहे हैं।
दक्षिण एशियाई विश्वविद्यालय शुरू हो गया है और जल्दी ही दिल्ली से बाहर इसका एक संपूर्ण परिसर होगा। आपदा प्रबंधन, स्वास्थ्य और शिक्षा से संबंधित मुद्दों को अधिक बारीकी से समझने के लिए आपस में सहयोग करना होगा और उन्हें सम्पूर्णता तथा क्षेत्रीय परिप्रेक्ष में सुलझाना होगा।
प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय में राज्यमंत्री वी नारायणसामी, पुृदुचेरी के राज्यपाल इकबाल सिंह और मुख्यमंत्री एन रंगास्वामी भी इस समारोह में शामिल हुए।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी की कर्नाटक प्रदेश इकाई में फूट एक-बार फिर सामने आ गई है। पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री बी एस येडियुरप्पा के समर्थक आठ मंत्रियों ने मुख्यमंत्री सदानन्द गौड़ा को अपने त्यागपत्र सौंप दिए हैं। ग्रामीण विकास और पंचायत राज मंत्री जगदीश शेट्टर ने इस्तीफा देने के बाद पत्रकारों को बताया कि ये मंत्री अपने-अपने निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में विकास कायोर्ं के लिए धन जारी करने में देरी से निराश थे। उन्होंने कहा कि वे भारतीय जनता पार्टी के प्रति अब भी वफादार हैं और उन्होंने विधायक के रूप में त्यागपत्र नहीं दिया है। उन्होंने पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय नेताओं से कहा कि वे मुख्यमंत्री सदानन्द गौड़ा से विधायक दल की बैठक बुलाने को कहें ताकि विधायक अपने-अपने निर्वाचन क्षेत्र की समस्याओं पर विचार कर सकें।हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री श्री येडियुरप्पा के समर्थक विधायक कल से श्री शेट्टर के निवास पर बैठकें कर रहे हैं। ये गुट मुख्यमंत्री सदानन्द गौड़ा की जगह नये नेता के रूप में श्री शेट्टर को अपनी पसंद बता रहा है।

छत्तीसगढ़ के बीजापुर जिले के बसागुडा में कल रात भर चली मुठभेड़ में कम से कम बीस संदिग्ध नक्सलवादी मारे गए हैं। सी आर पी एफ के छह जवान घायल हुए हैं। दो संदिग्ध माओवादियों को गिरफ्तार भी किया गया है। यह मुठभेड़ बस्तर क्षेत्र में सिलगर के इलाके में हुई। सी आर पी एफ के सूत्रों ने बताया है कि तीन और नक्सलवादियों के मारे जाने की खबर है।सूत्रों का कहना है कि छत्तीसगढ़ में इस साल नक्सलवादियों के गढ़ पर सुरक्षा बलों का यह सबसे बड़ा अभियान है।
केन्द्रीय गृह मंत्रालय ने इस घटना की राज्य सरकार और सी आर पी एफ से विस्तृत रिपोर्ट मांगी है।

गृह मंत्री पी चिदम्बरम ने कहा हैे कि २६ नम्वबर २००८ के मुम्बई आतंकी हमले के एक मुख्य आरोपी अबू जुन्दाल को पाकिस्तान में पनाह मिली हुई थी। नई दिल्ली में अपने मंत्रालय की मासिक रिपोर्ट जारी करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि भारत मानता है कि हमलावर आतंकवादियों को निर्देश देने के लिए कंट्रोल रूम, बिना सरकारी सहयोग के, स्थापित नहीं किया जा सकता था। गृहमंत्री ने कहा कि पाकिस्तान को यह स्वीकार करना चाहिए कि अबू जुन्दाल २६ नवम्बर के आतंकी हमले के समय कंट्रोल रूम में उपस्थित था तथा उसके साथ लश्कर -ए -तैयबा का सरगना हाफिज सईद भी कंट्रोल रूम में था।पाकिस्तान को ये स्वीकार करना चाहिए कि अबू जिंदाल पाकिस्तान गया था। अबू जिंदाल उस गु्रप का एक सदस्य था जिसने कसाब और नौ अन्य को तैयार किया। अबू जिंदाल उस कंट्रोल रूप में इस हमले के मास्टर मांइड के साथ मौजूद था। वास्तव में जांच के दौरान २६ नवम्बर के षड्यंत्र के कई तथ्य अब हमारे सामने आ गए हैं।
गृह मंत्री पी चिदम्बरम ने कहा कि सुरक्षा और खुफिया एजेंसियां भविष्य में ऐसे हमलों के प्रति हमेशा सतर्क रहेंगी। उन्होंने कहा कि पाकिस्तान ने, मुम्बई हमले की जांच के लिए न्यायिक आयोग भेजने के भारत के आग्रह का अभी तक कोई जवाब नहीं दिया है।

प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय ने कहा है कि कर चोरी रोकने के सामान्य नियमों- जी ए ए आर गार- के मसौदे को सरकारी वेबसाइट पर डाल दिया गया है और लोगों से इन पर प्रतिक्रिया देने को कहा गया है। प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय द्वारा आज जारी विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि इस बारे में अंतिम निर्णय प्रधानमंत्री की मंजूरी के बाद लिया जाएगा।प्रस्तावित दिशा निर्देशों में कराधान के मुद्दों पर , निवेशकों की समस्याओं का समाधान करने की कोशिश की गई है। मसौदे में कहा गया है कि गार के प्रावधानों को उन्हीं मामलों में लागू किया जाएगा, जिनमें विदेशी निवेशक संस्थाएं , दोहरे कराधान से बचने से संबंधित संधियों का फायदा उठाना चाहती हों। मसौदे में कहा गया है कि ये प्रावधान पहली अप्रैल २०१३ को या उसके बाद करदाताओं को प्राप्त होने वाली आय पर ही लागू होंगे।
दिशा निर्देशों के मसौदे के बारे में सुझाव, २० जुलाई तक भेजे जा सकते हैं।

अल्फा के एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने अपने अध्यक्ष अरविंद राजखोवा के साथ आज नई दिल्ली में गृहसचिव आर के सिंह से मुलाकात की। प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने श्री सिंह के साथ लगभग दो घंटे तक अपनी मांगों के सिलसिले में बातचीत की। बैठक के बाद संवाददाताओं से बातचीत करते हुए श्री राजखोवा ने कहा कि गृहसचिव के साथ बातचीत सार्थक रही।------
सरकार ने न्यायपालिका स,े लंबित मामले तेजी से निपटाने के लिए, एक और अभियान शुरू करने को कहा है। उच्च न्यायालयों के मुख्य न्यायाधीशों को भेजे पत्र में विधि और न्याय मंत्री सलमान खुर्शीद ने सुझाव दिया है कि अदालतों को इस वर्ष जुलाई से दिसम्बर के बीच, पांच साल से लंबित सभी मामले निपटा देने चाहियें। श्री खुर्शीद ने समाज के कमजोर वर्गों तथा विचाराधीन कैदियों के मामलों को प्राथमिकता देने को कहा।------
इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय ने वरिष्ठ आई ए एस अधिकारी राकेश बहादुर को नोएडा और संजीव सरन को गे्रटर नोएडा का मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी नियुक्त करने पर उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार से हलफनामा दायर करने को कहा है। एक जनहित याचिका पर सुनवाई के दौरान न्यायमूर्ति अरूण टंडन और आर एस मौर्य की खंडपीठ ने यह आदेश दिया। अगली सुनवाई ३१ जुलाई की है।------
सरकार ने पासपोर्ट आवेदनों के तेजी से निपटारे के लिए और पासपोर्ट मेले आयोजित करने का फैसला किया है। इस मेले में लोग सीधे अपना आवेदन जमा करा सकते है। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार विशाखापट्टनम, चेन्नई, कोयंबतूर , पुणे, नागपुर, गोवा और मलापुरम में पासपोर्ट सेवा केंद्र सहित क्षेत्रीय पासपोर्ट कार्यालय कल खुले रहेंगे।सूरत, मदुरई , अहमदाबाद, बडोदरा और तिरूपति में पासपोर्ट सेवा केंद्र रविवार को भी खुले रहेंगे। दिल्ली और बंगलूरू में क्षेत्रीय पासपोर्ट कार्यालय तथा पासपोर्ट सेवा केंद्र में शनिवार और रविवार दोनों दिन कामकाज होगा।

सी बी आई ने आज देवघर भूमि घोटाले के सिलसिले में झारखंड में ५२ स्थानों और बिहार में एक स्थान पर छापे मारे। सी बाई आई सूत्रों ने हमारे रांची संवाददाता को बताया कि दिनभर चली तलाशी के दौरान कई महत्वपूर्ण प्रमाण जब्त किए गये और ६४ अधिकारियों पर मामले दर्ज किए गए। देवघर की आठ सौ एकड़ से भी अधिक जमीन को नकली दस्तावेजों के आधार पर बेच दिया गया था जबकि इस जमीन को बेचना प्रतिबंधित था। यह बिक्री कई विभागों के सरकारी अधिकारियों की मिलीभगत से हुूई। इससे पहले राज्य सतर्कता कार्यालय ने ५२ अधिकारियों के खिलाफ जांच की थी।------
भारत एक शांतिपूर्ण और सुरक्षित एशिया चाहता है जो आतंकवाद, परमाणु हथियारों के प्रसार, समुद्री डकैतियों और देशों के बीच विवादों से मुक्त हो। यह बात विदेश मंत्रालय में सचिव-पूर्व, संजय सिंह ने आज नई दिल्ली में भारत, जापान और दक्षिण कोरिया के बीच पहली त्रिपक्षीय वार्ता का उद्घाटन करते हुए कही। उन्होंने कहा कि ये तीनों देश, सुचारू समुदी्र आवाजाही बनाए रखने, आतंकवाद का मुकाबला करने और समावेशी आर्थिक विकास को बढावा देने के लिए वचनबद्ध हैं।------
राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा सलाहकार शिवशंकर मेनन ने आज श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति महिन्दा राजपक्षे से मुलाकात की। हमारी संवाददाता ने बताया है कि श्री मेनन ने रक्षा सचिव गोटाभाया राजपक्षे और आर्थिक विकास मंत्री बैसिल राजपक्षे के साथ अहम बैठकें की।स्वदेश रवाना होने से पहले श्री मैनन ने मीडिया से बातचीत करते हुए कहा कि हालांकि तमिल मसले का राजनीतिक हल तथा युद्ध से विस्थापित तमिल नागरिकों को पुनर्वास किया जाना विशेषकर श्रीलंकाई मुद्दा है। पर भारत इसमें सभी सम्बन्धित पक्षों को जरूरत पड़ने पर आवश्यक मदद दे सकता है। श्री मैनन ने तमिल नेशनल एलाएंस के लीडर आर सम्मतन से भी मुलाकात की और उन्होंने भी संयुक्त श्रीलंका के भीतर तमिल मसले के राजनीतिक समाधान पक्ष को सामने रखा। मछुआरों की समस्या, समुद्री सहयोग और सुरक्षा से सम्बन्धित अन्य मुद्दों पर भी श्रीलंकाई नेताओं से बातचीत हुई। युद्ध प्रभावित उत्तरी क्षेत्र में चुनाव करावाने के बारे में श्री मैनन ने कहा कि श्रीलंका सरकार ने आश्वासन तो दिया है लेकिन समय सीमा पर कोई चर्चा नहीं हुई। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए कोलम्बो से कंचन प्रसाद।

वैश्विक बाजारों के मजबूत संकेतों के साथ-साथ कराधान सम्बन्धी कानूनों पर स्पष्टता होने से आज बाजार में उत्साह रहा। ब्यौरे के साथ अमित गोयल।मुम्बई शेयर बाजार का संवेदी सूचकांक ४३९ अंक के उछाल से १७ हजार ४३० के स्तर पर दर्ज हुआ। इस वर्ष सेंसेक्स में यह एक दिन में हुई सर्वाधिक बढ़त है। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी १३० अंक उछलकर पांच हजार २७९ के स्तर पर बंद हुआ। मुद्रा बाजार में रुपये में आज एक रुपये १९ पैसे का उछाल रहा और एक डॉलर ५५ रुपये ६१ पैसे के स्तर पर दर्ज हुआ। दिल्ली सर्राफा बाजार में आज सोना स्टैंडर्ड ३६० रुपये के नुकसान से ३० हजार ६० रुपये प्रति दस ग्राम के स्तर पर दर्ज हुआ। चांदी भी ५५० रुपये लुढ़क कर ५२ हजार ५९० रुपये प्रति किलोग्राम के स्तर पर दर्ज हुई। अमरीका में कच्चे तेल के वायदा भाव बढ़त के साथ ८० डॉलर प्रति बैरल के ऊपर दर्ज हुए।

भारत १९ वर्ष से कम आयु वर्ग के एशिया कप क्रिकेट टूर्नामेंट के फाइनल में पहुंच गया है। कुआलालम्पुर में सेमीफाइनल में भारत ने श्रीलंका को छह विकेट से हराया। श्रीलंका ने टॉस जीतकर पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए निर्धारित ५० ओवर में सात विकेट पर २४४ रन बनाए। जीत के लिए २४५ रन के जवाब में भारत ने ४७ ओवर और एक गेंद में २४७ रन बनाकर मैच जीत लिया। फाइनल में भारत मुकाबला रविवार को पाकिस्तान से होगा।------
सरकार ने इस बात को पूरी तरह गलत बताया है कि सुरजीत सिंह को पाकिस्तान में खुफिया एजेंसियों ने जासूस के तौर पर भेजा था। केन्द्रीय गृह सचिव राजकुमार सिंह ने कहा है कि यह कहना बिल्कुल गलत है कि सुरजीत सिंह एक जासूस था। श्री सिंह ने आज नई दिल्ली में एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में कहा कि भारत इस तरह की गतिविधियों में शामिल नहीं होता।------
यात्रियों को तत्काल टिकट उपलब्ध कराने की दिशा में सुधार की दृष्टि से रेल मंत्रालय ने घोषणा की है कि तत्काल सेवा के अंतर्गत टिकट की बुकिंग यात्रा से एक दिन पहले सवेरे दस बजे शुरू होगी। अब तक यह बुकिंग सवेरे आठ बजे से होती थी। रेल मंत्रालय के अनुसार यह व्यवस्था अगले महीने की दस तारीख से लागू हो जायेगी। नई व्यवस्था के अनुसारा किसी भी अनधिकृत एजेंट को दस बजे से बारह बजे तक तत्काल टिकट बुक नहीं करने दिया जायेगा।हमारे सवाददाता ने बताया है कि तत्काल सेवा इस लिए शुरू की गई थी ताकि लोग आपात स्थिति में यात्रा के लिए टिकट बुक करा सकें।

Pitching for building a South Asian Union on the lines of the European Union, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today said that countries in the region should pool their wisdom and work to remove the roadblocks that prevent South Asia from realizing its true destiny. Inaugurating the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute for South Asian Regional Cooperation for Peace and Development at the Pondicherry University this evening, Dr Singh said, the events in the Euro zone should not cast a shadow over efforts at building unity and eventually a South Asian union.
On SAARC, the Prime Minister said, New Delhi is strongly committed to strengthening the grouping. He said India was happy that important initiatives that symbolize the idea of South Asia are taking shape.
Dr Manmohan Singh arrived in Puducherry this evening on a two day visit to the Union Territory.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram today said that Abu Jundal, the key operator of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, had a safe haven in Pakistan. Talking to the media in New Delhi while presenting his Ministry’s monthly report, Mr Chidambaram said, said that Pakistan should admit that Abu Jundal was present in the control room established for the 26/11 terror attacks,and state support to it is all obvious.
We think such a control room could not have been established without some kind of state support. Yes, others were present and we think one among them was Hafiz Saeed. I think the apprehension of Abu Jindal is an important development as far as our investigations are concerned. Infact many of the missing pieces of the 26/11 conspiracy are now known to us through the interrogation of Abu Jindal.
Mr. Chidambaram said that after 26/11, as India pressurised Pakistan to take action against those involved, Jundal was moved to Rawalpindi from Karachi.
The Home Minister added that Pakistan has also not responded to India’s request for sending a Judicial Commission in connection with the 26/11 terror attack’s further investigations.

The government has described as completely wrong that Surjeet Singh, the Indian prisoner who has just returned from Pakistan, had been sent by intelligence agencies to that country as a spy. Union Home Secretary, Raj Kumar Singh said, it was completely wrong to say that Surjeet Singh was sent by Indian intelligence agencies for espionage in Pakistan. Mr. Singh said at a press conference in New Delhi that neither we do spying nor do we send spies.

In Karnataka, the growing dissident activity within the BJP in Karnataka has come to the fore again with eight Ministers submitting their resignation letters to the Chief Minister. After submitting the resignation letter, the Rural Development Minister Jagadish Shetter informed media persons that they have resigned as Ministers, as they are frustrated over delay in release of funds to their constituencies for development works. He clarified that they are still loyal to the BJP and will not resign as MLAs. He asked the BJP national leaders to direct the Chief Minister to convene a legislative party meeting to discuss problems faced by MLAs in their respective constituencies.
Our Correspondent adds that MLAs loyal to Yeddyurappa, held frequent meetings since yesterday at the residence of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar. Yeddyurappa camp has portrayed Mr. Shetter as their choice to replace the present Chief Minister Sadanand Gowda.

In Chhattisgarh, at least 20 suspected naxalites were killed and six CRPF jawans injured after a fierce overnight encounter in the jungles of Basaguda in Bijapur district. Two suspected Maoists were also arrested after the encounter. The encounter took place in the forests of Silger, an uncharted Maoist zone between Jagargunda and Basaguda in Bijapur district of Bastar region. It was launched last night in a joint operation by CRPF and state police personnel from three directions. CRPF sources said, there were reports of three more naxals being killed.
According to official sources, six CRPF men including two Cobra commandos sustained bullet injuries and they have been air-lifted for medical treatment to the state capital Raipur. Talking to media in New Delhi, Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram said that this was a planned operation.
This was a planned operation by the CRPF and state Police based on information. But the information related to one particular place. While the first group of Cobra and CRPF was on its way to the place, they were at ambushed in another village on the road.

An ULFA delegation led by its Chairman Mr. Arabinda Rajkhowa today met Home Secretary Mr. R K Singh in New Delhi today. The delegation had talks with Mr. Singh for about two hour on their demands submitted by ULFA. Talking to the media after the meeting, Mr. Rajkhowa said that the talks with the Home Secretary were positive. He said there is some progress in resolving some issues.

The CBI today conducted raids at 52 places in Jharkhand and one place in Bihar in connection with the land scam of Deoghar. CBI sources told our Ranchi Correspondent that important evidences were seized in the day-long search operations and cases were registered against 64 officers.
Our Ranchi Correspondent reports that more than 800 acres of non-saleable land of Deoghar were sold by forging the documents in which many government officers of different departments had connived. The case was transferred to the CBI on the 15th of this month. The scam is estimated to be of around 1000 crore rupees.

With a view to further improve the delivery of Tatkal tickets to passengers, the Ministry of Railways has announced that the booking of tatkal ticket under tatkal schemes will start from 10 AM on the previous day of journey in stead of existing system of 8 AM. According to the Ministry of Railways, the amendment to this effect will come into effects from 10th of next month.
The move comes in the wake of the various complaints of misuse of tatkal schemes. Under new amendment of the tatkal scheme , no authorised agents including agents of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation will be allowed to book tatkal tickets from 10 A.M to 12 in noon. The existing restriction of not allowing these agents booking of general tickets on the opening day from 8.AM to 10 A.M will also continue.

The Prime Minister's Office today said that Draft Guidelines on General Anti-Tax Avoidance Rules, GAAR, have been put on the government website to get wide-ranging feedback on the issue. An official release issued by the PMO says, the final decision will be taken with the approval of the Prime Minister who holds the Finance portfolio.
The proposed guidelines seek to address investor concerns over taxation issues. The draft said that GAAR provisions would be invoked only in cases where FIIs choose to take the benefit of double tax avoidance treaties. The provisions, it said, will apply only to the income arising to taxpayers on or after April 1, 2013.
According to the Finance Ministry release, the Central Board of Direct Taxes, CBDT has invited suggestions on draft Guidelines regarding the implementation of GAAR. Details are available on the websites www.pib.nic.in and www.finmin.nic.in and www.incometaxindia.gov.in.

Rising for the fourth straight session, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange posted its biggest single-day gain this year, of 439 points, to 17,430, today, as investors cheered clarity on tax-avoidance rules, an upgrade of the Indian markets, and as global market gained ground. The Nifty shot up 130 points, or 2.5 percent, to 5,279. Stock markets in Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Singapore rallied between 1 percent and 2 percent, on encouraging euro zone news. The rupee logged its second biggest gain in nearly a decade, strengthening a whopping 119 paise, or 2.1 per cent, to close at a two-week high of 55.61 per dollar. Gold tumbled 360 rupees, to 30,060 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. Silver shed 550 rupees, to 52,590 rupees per kilo. In a silver lining for the Indian economy, the country's eight core sectors posted a higher growth rate of 3.8 per cent in May 2012, compared to an expansion of just 2.2 per cent in April 2012. The infrastructure sector had grown at 5.8 per cent in May 2011. However, the cumulative growth rate of infrastructure industries in April-May 2012 was lower, at 3.4 per cent, against 5 per cent in the same period last year, according to government data released today.

Assam government has declared the current flood as the worst since 2004.The flood wave damaged bridges, crop land, fisheries, educational institutions, health centres and roads across the state. Central Water Commission report said that the Brahmaputra and its tributaries started to recede at a few places .National Disaster Response Force evacuated villagers and cattle at Southern Majuli. So far 1 lakh 66 thousand people have been sheltered at 173 relief camps. In China, at least 20 people have been killed and 14 others injured when a tanker carrying 40 tones of petrol crashed with another truck on a bridge near the city of Guangzhou in the south, setting fire to a timber mill underneath. Most of the victims are believed to be workers of the mill.

In Odisha, the world-famous return cart festival "Rath Yatra' of Lord Sri Jagannath, Sri Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, was held in the holy city of Puri today. The pulling of the three chariots began in Gundicha Temple followed by the sweeping ceremony of the three chariots with the golden broom, by Gajapati King of Puri, Dibyasingha Deb. The three chariots were pulled by lakhs of devotees and all the three chariots reached Sri Jagannath Temple this evening.
