जाट आरक्षण संघर्ष समिति ने केंद्र और हरियाणा सरकार के आश्वासनों के बाद अपना आंदोलन छह महीने के लिए स्थगित कर दिया है। समिति के अध्यक्ष यशपाल मलिक ने हमारे संवाददाता को बताया कि यह फैसला आज हरियाणा में हिसार में समिति की कोर ग्रुप की बैठक में किया गया। श्री मलिक ने कहा कि उत्तर प्रदेश के ज्योतिबाफुले नगर में काफूरपुर में कल जाट महापंचायत होगी। इसमें हरियाणा, पंजाब, राजस्थान और अन्य राज्यों से जाट नेताओं के शामिल होने की संभावना है। श्री मलिक ने यह भी बताया कि अगले महीने पंजाब में अमृतसर से जाट जागरण यात्रा शुरू की जाएगी।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि हरियाणा में जाट नेता रेल पटरियों से अपना धरना हटाने लगे हैं।
जाट नेताओं द्वारा फिलहाल आंदोलन वापस लिये जाने के बाद आंदोलनकारी लगभग सारे रेल ट्रेकों से हट गये हैं। जाट नेताओं को हालांकि पूरा विश्वास है कि उनकी मांगे पूरी की जायेंगी फिर भी उन्होंने कहा है कि वे 13 सितम्बर तक इंतजार करेंगे अगर उनकी मांगे नहीं मानी गईं तो उसी दिन फिर से आंदोलन शुरू किया जायेगा। हरियाणा में जाटों के प्रमुख नेता हवासिंह सांगवान ने बताया है कि  एक महीने में पिछड़ा वर्ग आयोग बनाने और ओ बी सी के कोटे में जाटों को आरक्षण देने की उनकी मांग मुख्यमंत्री ने स्वीकार कर ली है। उन्होंने यह भी बताया कि आंदोलनकारियों पर दर्ज किए गए मामले वापस ले लिए जाएंगे।
चंडीगढ़ में मुख्यमंत्री ने एक महीने के अंदर हरियाणा पिछड़ा वर्ग आयोग स्थापित करने की घोषणा की है। यह आयोग रोड़, जाट, जाट सिक्ख, त्यागी, बिश्नोई तथा पिछड़े वर्गों के दायरे में आने के इच्छुक अन्य समुदायों की मांगों पर विचार करेगा। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि जाट आंदोलन स्थगित होने से उत्तर प्रदेश में भी लोगों ने राहत की सांस ली है।
जाट आंदोलन स्थगित किये जाने की घोषणा से प्रदेश के आम लोगों और विशेष रूप से प्रशासनिक अमले को विशेष रूप से राहत मिली है। लगभग 3 सप्ताह से ज्यादा समय से चल रहे इस आंदोलन की वजह से राज्य में पश्चिमी जिलों में लोग अनेक समस्याओं से झुझने के लिए व्यस्त थे रेल और सड़क यातायात के साथ साथ हिंसात्मक गतिविधियों के कारण लोग असुरक्षित भी महसूस कर रहे थे। जाटा आरक्षण संरक्षण समिति द्वारा 28 मार्च को दिल्ली इलाके बंद की घोषणा से प्रदेश का प्रशासनिक अमला भी काफी सक्रिय था क्योंकि सर्वोच्च न्यायालय और इलाहबाद उच्च न्यायालय ने इस पर रोक लगाने के कड़े निर्देश दिये थे। जाट आंदोलन को देखते हुए केंद्र ने आज उत्तर प्रदेश , हरियाणा और राजस्थान में रेल और सड़क यातायात तथा कानून और व्यवस्था की स्थिति की समीक्षा की। नई दिल्ली में इस बैठक में केंद्रीय गृहसचिव जी0 के0 पिल्लई ने इन राज्यों के पुलिस और प्रशासन के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों से विचार विमर्श किया।

प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा है कि भारत विश्व आर्थिक मंच पर एक प्रमुख शक्ति के रूप में उभरने के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार है। उन्होंने कहा कि बचत और निवेश की उच्च दरों वाली विश्व की एक उभरती अर्थ व्यवस्था के रूप में भारत अपनी विवेकपूर्ण नीतियों और ठोस आर्थिक प्रबंध के जरिए दहाई में विकास दर हासिल कर सकता है और उसे बनाये रख सकता है। डा0 सिंह आज आई. आई. एम. अहमदाबाद के दीक्षान्त समारोह को सम्बोधित कर रहे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि आज से बीस साल पहले देश में आर्थिक सुधारों की शुरूआत हुई थी और अब भारत विश्व आर्थिक प्रगति का एक हिस्सा बनता जा रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि हाल के विश्व आर्थिक संकट में भारत का प्रदर्शन काफी अच्छा रहा। विदेशी मुद्रा का भंडार बढ़ा और औद्योगिक तथा सेवा क्षेत्रों में प्रगति हुई। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत, सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी, अनुसंधान और विकास तथा नवीकरण के विश्व केन्द्र के रूप में भी उभर रहा है। प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि देश के वित्तीय संस्थान और पूंजी बाजार उन्नत हो गए हैं और अब वे हमारी निवेश की भारी आवश्यकताओं के अनुरूप संसाधन जुटाने में समर्थ हैं।

तमिलनाडु में विधानसभा चुनावों के लिए नामांकन पत्र दाखिल करने का काम आज शाम समाप्त हो गया। चेन्नई में 16 निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों के लिए 379 नाम दाखिल हुए। इनमें से 180 नामांकन  अन्तिम दिन भरे गए। कल तक 234 निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों के लिए ढ़ाई हजार से अधिक नामांकन पत्र भरे जा चुके थे।
राजनीतिक पार्टियों के महत्वपूर्ण नेता अपने-अपने मोर्चों के लिए वोट जुटाने के वास्ते राज्य का दौरा कर रहे हैं।

इधर, राज्य में भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने कहा है कि सेतु समुद्रम की वैकल्पिक योजना  लागू की जायेगी और रामार पुल को एक ऐतिहासिक स्मारक घोषित किया जायेगा। ये आश्वासन पार्टी के चुनाव घोषणा पत्र में दिए गए हैं। इसे आज चेन्नई में वरिष्ठ भाजपा नेता बंगारू लक्ष्मण ने जारी किया।

पुड्डुचेरी में विधानसभा चुनावों के लिए नामांकन पत्र दाखिल करने का काम आज समाप्त हो गया। मुख्य मुकाबला सत्तारूढ़ कांग्रेस और विपक्षी दल आल इंडिया एन आर कांग्रेस के गठबंधनों के बीच होने की संभावना है। पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री एन रंगास्वामी के नेतृत्व वाली एन आर कांग्रेस का आज सवेरे आल इंडिया अन्ना द्रमुक पार्टी के साथ सीटों के बंटवारें के बारे में समझौता हो गया। इसके अनुसार एन आर कांग्रेस 17 सीटों पर और आल इंडिया अन्ना द्रमुक 13 सीटों पर चुनाव लड़ेगीं।

केरल में अगले महीने होने वाले विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए नामांकन भरने का आज अंतिम दिन था। निर्वाचन आयोग की प्रारंभिक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार अभी तक एक हजार तीन सौ नामांकन पत्र भरे गए हैं। विपक्षी नेता ओमान चांडी ने आज अपना नामांकन पुथुपल्ली से दाखिल किया। सोमवार को इन नामांकन पत्रों की जांच की जाएगी और नामांकन पत्र वापिस लेने की तारीख 30 मार्च निर्धारित की गई है।

उधर, पश्चिम बंगाल में विधानसभा चुनाव के पहले चरण के लिए अब तक 36 नामांकन पत्रा दाखिल किए जा चुके हैं।
इस बीच, राज्य के मुख्य सचिव समर घोष ने आज कोलकाता में  कहा कि विधानसभा चुनावों के लिए राज्य में केन्द्रीय बलों की करीब छह सौ साठ कंपनियां तैनात की जायेंगी।
उधर, राज्य के मुख्य चुनाव अधिकारी सुनील गुप्ता ने आज कोलकाता में पत्रकारों को बताया कि निर्वाचन आयोग ने चुनावों के दौरान पड़ोसी राज्यों से अपराधी तत्व, अवैध शराब और  पैसा रोकने के लिए सीमावर्ती इलाकों में चौकसी तेज करने के निर्देश दिए हैं।

दिल्ली पुलिस ने फर्जी फ्‌लाइंग लाइसेंस घोटाले के सिलसिले में चार व्यक्ति गिरफ्‌तार किये हैं। इनमें नागरिक उड्डयन महानिदेशालय डी जी सी ए का अधिकारी प्रदीप कुमार, पायलट प्रदीप त्यागी और दो दलाल शामिल हैं। इनमें से एक की पहचान ललित जैन के रूप में की गई है। इस घोटाले में अब तक दस लोग हिरासत में लिए जा चुके हैं।
डी जी सी ए ने फर्जी दस्तावेजों के आधार पर व्यावसायिक लाइसेंस हासिल करने के लिए चौदह पायलट ड्यूटी से हटा दिये हैं। व्यावसायिक लाइसेंस उस व्यक्ति को दिया जाता है जिसने प्रशिक्षण के दौरान दो सौ घंटे की उड़ान पूरी की हो।

पंजाब में 2008 में शहीद-ए-आज+म भगत सिंह की जन्म शताब्दी के समारोहों में करोड़ों रूपये का गबन करने के आरोप में पंजाब सतर्कता ब्यूरो ने एक पूर्व आई ए एस अधिकारी डॉक्टर स्वर्ण सिंह तथा उसके तीन साथियों पर कार्रवाई की है।
डॉक्टर स्वर्ण सिंह पंजाब कला परिषद के पूर्व अध्यक्ष हैं। इसी परिषद ने भगत सिंह के जन्म शताब्दी के समारोहों का आयोजन किया था। उनके तीन साथी हैं - विकास मेहरा, संजय घेरा और सतबीर सिंह बाजवा। विकास और संजय फरीदाबाद की एक एंटरटेनमेंट कंपनी के मालिक हैं और बाजवा चंडीगढ़ में एक कंपनी चलाता है। इन सभी पर भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक कानून तथा भारतीय दंड संहिता की अलग अलग धाराओं के अनुसार मामले दर्ज किये गए हैं।

भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच विश्व कप क्रिकेट का सेमीफाइनल मैच देखने के लिए पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति और प्रधानमंत्री को डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह के निमंत्रण को पाकिस्तानी मीडिया ने अमन का छक्का बताया है। डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कल पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली ज+रदारी और प्रधानमंत्री युसुफ रज+ा गिलानी को मैच देखने के लिए भारत आने का निमंत्रण दिया था। इस खबर को पाकिस्तान के अखबारों ने आज प्रमुखता से प्रकाशित किया है।

भारत ने पाकिस्तान के कब्जे वाले कश्मीर से जम्मू-कश्मीर आने वाले लोगों की, राज्य में ठहरने की अवधि बढ़ाकर छह महीने करने का फैसला किया है। इस अवधि में वे कई बार भारत आ सकते हैं। इससे नियंत्रण रेखा के दोनों ओर रहने वाले लोगों में परस्पर सम्पर्क बढे+गा। विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि एन्ट्री परमिट की वैधता भी बढ़ाकर छह सप्ताह कर दी गई है, जो पहले चार सप्ताह थी।

पाकिस्तान में रावलपिंडी की एक आतंकवाद-विरोधी अदालत ने, 2008 के मुंबई हमलों में शामिल अजमल कसाब और एक अन्य संदिग्ध आतंकवादी फहीम अंसारी को भगोड़ा घोषित करने की याचिका रद्द कर दी है। अदालत ने कहा है कि ये लोग जानबूझकर पाकिस्तान में हो रही अदालती कार्रवाई से बचने की कोशिश नहीं कर रहे।

The Jat Arakashan Sangarsh Samiti has suspended its agitation for six months in view of the assurances given by the Centre and the Haryana Government.  President of the Samiti  Yashpal Malik told our Lucknow correspondent this afternoon that this was decided at a meeting of the core group of the Samiti held today at Hissar in Haryana. He said a Jat Mahapanchayat will be held tomorrow at Kafurpur in Jyotiba Phule Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.  Jat leaders from different states including Haryana ,Punjab and Rajasthan are likely to participate. Mr. Malik said it has also been  decided that a Jat Jagaran Yatra will start next month from Amritsar in Punjab. AIR Chandigarh Correspondent reports that the Jat leaders have started lifting their Dharnas from the railway tracks in Haryana.

Special arrangements are also being made including supply of coal to start the Panipat Power Plant which remains closed for the last ten days due to the agitation. After the Allahabad High Court intervention, Jat agitators had removed their blockade from rail tracks in Jyotiba Phule Nagar under Moradabad rail division, in Uttar Pradesh.

Rail and road traffic was badly affected during more than three week long Jat agitation and common men were forced to face lot of miseries in Jat dominating western districts of the state. Civil and police officers were on their feet in the view of Jat Sangharsh Samiti announcement to siege national capital on day after tomorrow. Supreme Court and Allahabad High Court had directed the neighboring states for ensuring undisrupted rail and road traffic and supply of essential commodities to Delhi. Security had been tightened and several administrative measures have been taken in view of the courts direction. Meanwhile Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for abetting the Jat agitation. He has accused that Jat stir was sponsored, promoted and flared by Mayawati government in the state.

In New Delhi, the Union Home Secretary G. K. Pillai reviewed the law and order situation as well as road and rail traffic movement with top civil and Police officials of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan in the wake of Jat agitation.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that India has become one of the most preferred global destinations for foreign investors. Delivering the convocation speech at the 46th Convocation of IIM Ahmedabad this evening, Dr. Singh said that India has emerged as the world’s fastest growing economies with its savings and investment rates giving confidence that with prudent policies and sound economic management, the country can achieve double digit growth.

Dr. Singh said that the success of reforms  unleashed 20 years back is evident.  The Prime Minister however said the people should also recognize that our high growth is not sustainable unless it is made more inclusive to reduce social disparities.

In Tamil Nadu, filing of nominations for the Assembly elections came to a close this evening. In Chennai which comprises of 16 constituencies, 379 nominations have been filed including 180 nominations on the last day today. With the election commission keeping a close watch, graffiti, huge cuts outs and posters , blaring music from cone speakers, serial lights , late night meetings are a thing of the past. Voters are being lured with freebies. If in the last assembly elections it was free color televisions and Rs 2 per kg rice for all ration card holders that caught the popular imagination, this time around, it is fan, mixie, grinder, laptops, 4 grams of gold, even goats are being offered for free to get the crucial vote.

The Tamil Nadu BJP has said that party would implement the Sethu Samudram scheme on an alternative route and action will be taken to declare the Ramar Bridge as a historical monument. The assurance was given in the party election manifesto released by the senior leader  Bangaru Laxman in Chennai today. Besides other things, the party also promised free laptop computers to all Plus one and Plus two school students and college students.

In Kerala, as the last day for submission of nomination papers ended today as per initial reports from election commission, 1300 nomination papers have been submitted so far for the next month's assembly elections. Opposition leader Oommen Chandy also submitted his nomination paper from Puthuppally today. Scrutiny will be done on Monday and 30th is the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers.

In Puducherry, battle-lines have been drawn with the ruling Congress and the Opposition All India NR Congress forming alliances, as filing of nominations came to a close this evening. Former Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy led NR Congress entered into a seat sharing agreement with the AIADMK this morning. According to the deal, the NR Congress will be contesting in 17 seats and AIADMK has been allotted 13 seats. Meanwhile, the left parties which are a part of the AIADMK front in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, have convened a meeting of the Puducherry executive committee this evening, to decide on the strategy for this election. The ruling congress which had allotted 10 seats to the DMK has entered into an agreement with the PMK and VCK, forging a formidable alliance.

Thirty three candidates remain in fray for the by-election to Jagalur, Bhangarpet and Channapatna Assembly constituencies in Karnataka. On the last day of withdrawing nominations today, 14 candidates withdrew their nominations. The by-election will be held on April 9th and results will be out on May 13th.

Four persons, including a DGCA official and a pilot, have been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with the fake flying license scam. Police said, they have arrested DGCA official Pradeep Kumar, pilot Pradeep Tyagi and two touts. One of them has been identified as Lalit Jain.With the fresh arrests, 10 people have been taken into custody in connection with the racket.DGCA had already grounded 14 pilots for obtaining their commercial pilot licenses, CPL, by submitting fake records and documents pertaining to their flying experience. They are alleged to have got fake certificates from a fake flying training institute in Rajasthan. DGCA chief E K Bharat Bhushan had recently said that  the CPLs of around 10,000 pilots are under the scanner, besides about 4,000 holders of Airlines Pilots Training License. He also said that DGCA would conduct third-party audit of all the 40 flying schools in the country.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau today booked a retired IAS officer and three others for their alleged involvement in embezzling crores of rupees in the Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s birth centenary celebrations  held in 2008.

A former President of Punjab Arts Council, which organized the event, Dr. Swaran Singh, a retired IAS officer and three others have been booked by the Bureau under various sections of the IPC.

In Orissa, opposition Congress today moved a privilege motion in the state assembly against revenue and disaster management Minister SN Patro, accusing him of misleading the House by saying that the Centre did not give any financial aid to the state for last year's drought and unseasonal rain. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna is in Saudi Arabia on an official visit during which he is expected to discuss the entire gamut of bilateral issues and sign an agreement on the Haj. Mr Krishna will meet with officials and Ministers in Saudi Arabia and discuss various issues of importance to both the countries.

In Libya, rebels backed by allied air raids, have seized control of the frontline oil town of Ajdabiya from Muammar Gaddafi's forces.  Reports say, there are scenes of jubilation among the insurgents. Gaddafi loyalists had seized the town last week. The town fell to the rebels after seven nights of bombardment by allied forces, enforcing a UN-mandated no-fly zone. According to a report, about 20 Libyan government tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery pieces have been either abandoned or destroyed. Large explosions were also heard in the Libyan capital Tripoli this morning. Witnesses said, a military radar site was on fire in city's suburb of Tajura.

Gaddafi is said to have ordered a universal promotion for everyone in the army and police, and proposed arming of civilian volunteers. Reports say, pro-Gaddafi forces are still trying to recapture Misrata, a  major western town in rebel hands.

In Nepal, at least six persons have been injured, two critically when a bomb went off inside a passenger bus along the Kohalpur-Nepalgunj road in Banke district this afternoon. Police suspect, the bomb might have been planted under a seat.

In Myanmar, rescuers today struggled to reach remote  towns hit by a powerful earthquake of 6.8 magnitude which killed 75 people. Officials said, the death toll could rise as there might be some places which could not be reached because of the communication and transportation problems.  The towns of Tarlay, Tachileik and villages in  Shan state appear to have been most severely affected by the quake.

India has offered all help to the quake hit Myanmar. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today wrote to Senior General Than Shwe that  India stands ready to render any assistance that his  government may require.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister Mrs. Ambika Soni has called for better implementation of pro-women legislations for an equitable society. Addressing the first regional conference of South Asian Women in Media in New Delhi today, she said the Government should be proactively involved in creating a safe and equitable work environment to facilitate entry of more women into media.

At the R. Premadasa Stadium, chasing a modest target of 230 for win, the co-hosts were 179 for no loss in 33 overs, a short while ago.
