    तमिलनाडु में डीएमके गठबंधन को एआईए डीएमके का जबर्दस्त झटका।

    लोकसभा उपचुनाव में वाई एस आर कांग्रेस के वाई एस जगनमोहन रेड्डी ने आंध्र प्रदेश में कडप्पा सीट फिर जीती, जबकि छत्तीसगढ़ में बस्तर सीट पर भाजपा के दिनेश कश्यप विजयी।
    उच्चतम न्यायालय का सीबीआई को  टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम आवंटन मामले में धन के लेन-देन पर ३१ मई तक रिपोर्ट दाखिल करने का निर्देश। सीबीआई का दल सोमवार को मॉरीशस जायेगा।
    प्रधानमंत्री का अफगानिस्तान को पुनर्निर्माण कार्यों में भारत की मदद जारी रखने का आश्वासन।

संयुक्त प्रगतिशील गठबंधन - यूपीए को पश्चिम बंगाल, असम और केरल विधान सभा चुनाव में जीत मिली है लेकिन तमिलनाडु में ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डी एम के ने उसे करारी मात दी है। पुदुचेरी में एन आर कांग्रेस - अन्ना डी एम के गठबंधन ने कांग्रेस से सत्ता छीन ली है।
पश्चिम बंगाल में तृणमूल कांग्रेस गठबंधन और तमिलनाडु में अन्ना डी एम के मोर्चे ने तीन चौथाई बहुमत लेकर जबर्दस्त उलट-फेर किया है। तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने वाम मोर्चे का ३४ साल का शासन समाप्त करके ऐतिहासिक जीत दर्ज की है। केरल में कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व में संयुक्त लोकतांत्रिक मोर्चे को मामूली बहुमत मिला है जबकि असम में कांग्रेस पार्टी भारी बहुमत के साथ लगातार तीसरी बार सत्ता में लौटी है। उधर, पुद्दुचेरी में पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री रंगास्वामी के नेतृत्व में एन आर कांग्रेस-अन्ना डी एम के गठबंधन को बहुमत मिला है।
जबर्दस्त जीत के बाद तृणमूल कांग्रेस की नेता ममता बनर्जी ने कोलकाता में राज्यपाल से मिल कर सरकार बनाने का दावा पेश किया। पश्चिम बंगाल में श्री बुद्धदेब भट्टाचार्य जाधवपुर सीट पर श्री मनीष गुप्ता से हार गए हैं। हमारे संवाददाता का कहना है कि वाम मोर्चे के अधिकतर दिग्गज अपनी सीट नहीं बचा सके।
राज्य में रिकार्ड लगातार सात बार से चुनावी जीत हासिल कर रहे वाममोर्च का किला इस आंधी में ढह गया। जानकारों का मामना है कि वाममोर्च के भूमि अधिग्रहण और औद्योगिकीकरण नीति और राज्य में आधार भूत संरचनाओं की कमी की वजह से यह दिन देखना पड़ रहा है। तृणमूल कांग्रेस गठबंधन ने भी सरकार की इन कथित विफलताओं को जमकर हवा दिया है। नई सरकार के समक्ष बड़ी जिम्मेदारी होंगी। जिन मुद्दों को लेकर वह वाममोर्चा सरकार पर हमलावर रही है उन मुद्दों पर उसका खुद का रवैया क्या होगा। उधर वाममोर्च को भी अपनी पराजय के प्रति आत्मसमीक्षा करनी होगी क्योंकि उसके सामने भी एक जिम्मेदार विपक्ष की भूमिका निभाने का दायित्व है। इस बीच राज्य में सरकार बनाने की गतिविधियां तेज हो गई हैं। सुनील शुक्ल आकाशवाणी समाचार कोलकाता।

उधर, तमिलनाडु में एम करुणानिधि थिरूवरूर सीट पर जीत गए लेकिन उनके अधिकांश मंत्री चुनाव हार गए। अन्ना डी एम के प्रमुख जयललिता श्रीरंगम सीट से विजयी रहीं।

केरल में हर पांच वर्ष में सत्ता परिवर्तन की परंपरा जारी है। १४० सदस्यों वाली विधानसभा में कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व में यूडीएफ मोर्चे ने ७२ सीटें लेकर बहुमत हासिल कर लिया है जबकि एलडीएफ को ६६ सीटें मिली हैं और दो निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार जीते हैं।
असम में १२६ सदस्यों की विधानसभा में कांग्रेस ने ७८ सीटों के साथ पूर्ण बहुमत हासिल कर लिया है।

पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव के मुकाबले कांग्रेस को इस बार भारी सफलता मिली है। पार्टी को २५ सीटों का फायदा हुआ है और उसे ७८ सीटें हासिल हुई है। एआईयूडीएफ १८ सीट जीतकर दूसरी बड़ी पार्टी के रूप में उभरकर सामने आया है। असम गणपरिषद को १४ और भाजपा को पांच सीटों का नुकसान हुआ है। बोडोरन पीपुल्स फ्रन्ट को एक सीट का फायदा हुआ है और उसे बारह सीट हासिल हुई है। तृणमूल कांग्रेस आठों सीट जीतकर पहली बार असम में अपनी उपस्थिति दर्ज की है। वामपंथी दल और एनसीपी को इस बार चुनाव में खाता नहीं खुला है। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए गुवाहाटी से मैं कृष्ण कुमार लाल।

पुदुचेरी में एन आर कांग्रेस-अन्ना डी एम के गठबंधन विधानसभा की ३० में से २० सीटें जीत कर सत्ता में आ गया है। एन आर कांग्रेस को १५ और अन्ना डी एम के को ५ सीटें मिली हैं। कांग्रेस ने सात और डी एम के ने २ सीटें जीती हैं जबकि एक निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार विजयी रहा है।
एन आर कांग्रेस के नेता पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री रंगास्वामी ने बताया कि शपथग्रहण की तारीख अगले कुछ दिनों में तय कर ली जाएगी।
चुनाव परिणामों के विश्लेषण से पता चलता है कि पश्चिम बंगाल में तृणमूल कांग्रेस गठबंधन को ७६ प्रतिशत से अधिक वोट मिले हैं जबकि तमिलनाडु में अन्ना डी एम के मोर्चे ने ८६ दशमलव ८ प्रतिशत वोट हासिल किए। असम में कांग्रेस ६१ दशमलव ९ प्रतिशत वोट लेकर जीती। केरल में यू डी एफ को ५१ दशमलव ९ प्रतिशत और एल डी एफ को ४७ दशमलव ९ प्रतिशत वोट मिले।
प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने अन्ना डी एम के नेता जे जयललिता और तृणमूल कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष ममता बैनर्जी को उनकी जीत पर बधाई दी।

 वरिष्ठ कांग्रेस नेता प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा है कि पांच राज्यों के विधानसभा चुनाव नतीजों ने यह साबित कर दिया है कि लोगों ने स्थिरता और बदलाव के पक्ष में वोट दिया है। कल नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों से बातचीत में उन्होंने कहा कि उनकी पार्टी पूरी विनम्रता और सम्मान के साथ जनादेश स्वीकार करती है।

बंगाल के लोगों ने स्पष्ट रूप से ममता बैनर्जी के पक्ष में जनादेश दिया है। केरल में, जैसी कि परम्परा रही है लोगों ने परिवर्तन के पक्ष में वोट दिया है। असम में हमें फिर से जनादेश प्राप्त हुआ है। यह स्थिरता, विकास और सुलह-सफाई के पक्ष में जनादेश है। तमिलनाडु में परिवर्तन को वोट दिया गया है और हम इसे पूरी विनम्रता से स्वीकार करते हैं। हम कोशिश करेंगे कि अपनी भूलों को सुधार सकें और भविष्य में उनके भरोसे के काबिल बनें।

तृणमूल कांग्रेस प्रमुख ममता बनर्जी ने अपनी पार्टी की विजय को ऐतिहासिक बताते हुए जनता के प्रति आभार व्यक्त किया है। सुश्री बनर्जी ने कहा कि ये उन गरीब और कमजोर लोगों की जीत है, जो पिछले ३४ वर्षों के वामपंथी शासन के दौरान बुनियादी सुविधाओं से वंचित थे।

ये लोकतंत्र की जीत है, ये लोगों की जीत है। बंगाल के लोग इस जीत के लिए वर्षो से इंतजार कर रहे थे। हम इस जीत को राज्य के सभी लोगों को समर्पित करना चाहते है।

मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी की नेता वृदा करात ने कहा कि यह वोट पश्चिम बंगाल में परिवर्तन के लिए दिया गया। उन्होंने कहा कि केरल में यू डी एफ को मामूली अंतर से जीत मिली है।
वामदलों ने मान लिया है कि पश्चिम बंगाल में जनादेश उनके गठबंधन के खिलाफ रहा है। भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के नेता गुरूदास दास गुप्ता ने कहा कि मोर्चा लोगों की अपेक्षाओं के अनुरूप खरा नहीं उतर सका।
ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डी०एम०के० की सुप्रीमो जयललिता ने कहा है कि यह जनता और लोकतंत्र की जीत है और तमिलनाडु के लोगों ने इस चुनाव में धन-बल को हरा दिया।
इस बीच, भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने चुनाव नतीजों पर संतोष व्यक्त किया है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता प्रकाश जावड़ेकर ने कहा कि पार्टी ने सभी पांच राज्यों में अपना खाता खोलकर अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया है।

 आंध्र प्रदेश में कडप्पा लोक सभा सीट वाई एस आर कांग्रेस के वाई. एस. जगनमोहन रेड्डी ने फिर जीत ली है। इस सीट के लिए हुए उप-चुनाव में उन्होंने राज्य के स्वास्थ्य मंत्री डी. एल. रवीन्द्र रेड्डी को पांच लाख इक्कीस हजार वोटों से मात दी।
भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने छत्तीसगढ़ में बस्तर लोकसभा सीट को फिर अपनी झोली में कर लिया है।
कर्नाटक में सत्तारूढ़ भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने विधानसभा उपचुनाव में सभी तीन सीटों पर आसान जीत दर्ज की।

सी बी आई का एक दल टू जी स्पेक्ट्रम आवंटन घोटाले में शामिल विभिन्न दूरसंचार कंपनियों में लगाए गए पैसे की छानबीन करने सोमवार को मॉरिशस जाएगा। सीबीआई के वकील वरिष्ठ एडवोकेट के के वेणुगोपाल ने उच्चतम न्यायालय को बताया कि दल की रिपोर्ट अदालत में पेश की जाएगी। न्यायमूर्ति जी एस सिंधवी और ए के गांगुली की पीठ ने सीबीआई को यह रिपोर्ट ३१ मई तक पेश करने का निर्देश दिया और सुनवाई ६ जुलाई तक स्थगित कर दी।

प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह दो दिन की अफगानिस्तान यात्रा के बाद कल देर शाम स्वदेश लौट आए। अपने प्रवास के दौरान डॉ. सिंह ने अफगानिस्तान के साथ महत्वपूर्ण सहयोग के लिए एक दृष्टिकोण पत्र जारी किया। प्रधानमंत्री और अफगानिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति हामिद करज+ई के बीच बातचीत के बाद संयुक्त वक्तव्य में दोनों देशों ने आतंकवाद, मादक पदार्थों की तस्करी और काले धन का इस्तेमाल रोकने सहित विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में मिल कर काम करने की घोषणा की। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह अफगानिस्तान की संसद के संयुक्त सत्र को संबोधित करने वाले पहले विदेशी नेता हैं। प्रधानमंत्री ने यह दुर्लभ अवसर प्रदान करने के लिए अफगानिस्तान की संसद और वहां की जनता के प्रति आभार व्यक्त किया।

The UPA alliance wins assembly poll in three states of West Bengal, Assam and Kerala while DMK alliance suffered severe drubbing by AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. Mamata Banerjee unseated Left Front in West Bengal in 34 years. In Puducherry, N.R. Congress-AIADMK alliance wrest power from the Congress.  

In a major upheaval in the state electoral politics, the Trinamool Congress alliance has swept the assembly polls in West Bengal and AIADMK front in Tamil Nadu with both posting three fourth majorities. Trinamool Congress unseated the Left Front in West Bengal from power after 34 years of rule in a historic performance.  AIR correspondent has filed this report.

The people of the state expressed their confidence in the clarion call for Pariwartan given by the Trinamool Congress Chief Ms. Mamata Banerjee.  After seven consecutive victories, the Left Front government in West Bengal collapsed in the wind of Pariwartan mooted by the opposition Trinamool Congress.  The Left Front Chairman Mr. Biman Basu said on record that the debacle is unexpected and they are assessing the cause of it.  According to the political expert the main reason for the Left Front Government's defeats are its industrial, land acquisition policies and the lack of infrastructure in the State.  With Sunil Shukla and Sudeep Banerjee, Arijit Chakraborty, AIR News, Kolkata.

Congress led UDF gained a narrow majority in Kerala , while Congress party returned to power in Assam for the third term in a row. In another change of government, N.R. Congress - AIADMK alliance led by former Chief Minister Rengasamy gets majority in Puducherry.

Following the massive win of her alliance, Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee met the Governor and staked her claim to form the Government. Ms. Banerjee has invited TMC allies Congress and SUCI to join her government. Both West Bengal Chief Minister Buddadeb Bhattacharya and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi have resigned following poll debacle of their alliances in the assembly elections. The Governors have asked them to continue till alternative arrangements are made.

In Kerala, the Congress led UDF Front has won the majority by winning 72 seats in the 140 member assembly continuing the tradition of UDF and LDF winning alternatively in every assembly polls.

In Assam, the Congress has won absolute majority by winning 78 seats in the 126 member assembly. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has won his native constituency Titabor for the third time in a row. More from AIR Guwahati correspondent .

The ruling Congress in Assam has received overwhelming support by getting 41 per cent votes from the electorates to lead the party to get absolute majority in the 126-members State Assembly. The AIUDF emerged as the main opposition party in the State.  The BJP and AGP suffered a major jolt. Both the parties could not cross the two figure mark. The BJP state president Ranjit Dutta and the AGP President Chandra Mohan Patowary lost the election. Left parties and the Nationalist Congress Party were wiped out in this election. In Puducherry, the N.R. Congress - AIADMK alliance has won an absolute majority. N.R. Congress has won 15 seats and AIADMK five taking the tally of the combine to 20 in the 30 member assembly.

In the by-elections in Andhra Pradesh, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy of YSR Congress has retained Kadapa Lok Sabha seat with a huge majority of 5 lakh, 21 thousand votes over his nearest rival, State Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy of the Congress. His Mother and Widow of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Vijayamma has been re-elected from Pulivendula Assembly seat. The BJP has retained the Bastar Lok Sabha seat in Chhattisgarh. Its candidate Dinesh Kashyap won the seat by a margin of over 88 thousand votes, defeating his nearest Congress rival Kawasi Lakhma.

The ruling BJP in Karnataka has made a clean sweep in Assembly bye-elections winning all the three seats by comfortable margins. The Party wrested Bangarapet and Jagalur seats from Congress and Chennapatna from JDS.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party has won Pipraich Assembly by-election.

Home Minister P Chidambaram described the victory of the TMC-Congress alliance in West Bengal and Congress in Assam, as spectacular. Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee, describing her win as historic, thanked the people for her landslide victory. Ms Banerjee said that it is the victory of Maa, Matti and Manus.

This is the victory of the democracy, this is the victory of the people, the victory of Maa, Maati, Manus and it's a long struggle what the Bengal people are waiting since 35 years.  And I think this is just like a freedom struggle.  We want to dedicate our victory to our people, the motherland.

CPI(M) has accepted its defeat in West Bengal. Party leader Brinda Karat said that it is the vote for change in West Bengal.

AIADMK Chief Jayalalitha said it is the victory for the people and the democracy and people have defeated money power in this election.

This is a victory for democracy.  People were just waiting for a change to throw out the DMK government and bring back the AIADMK government again.

The BJP, has expressed satisfaction over the results.   Party Spokesman Prakash Javedekar said that the party has performed well in these states.

A CBI team would be leaving for Mauritius on Monday to track the trail of money invested in various telecom companies involved in the 2G spectrum allocation scam. CBI Counsel Senior advocate K.K. Venugopal told the Supreme Court yesterday that the team would file its report before the court on the investigation done by it. A bench of justices G S Singhvi and A.K. Ganguly directed the agency to file its report on the probe into the money trail by the 31st of this month and posted the matter for further hearing on July 6. The bench also directed the CBI to expedite its enquiry against a journalist who had allegedly tried to bribe an Enforcement Directorate official who was inquiring into 2G scam.

In a major set back to the ruling BJP in Karnataka, the Supreme Court yesterday quashed Assembly Speaker's decision to disqualify 16 MLAs ahead of the no confidence motion in October last year which had ensured survival of the Yeddyurappa government. A bench headed by justice Altamas Kabir while quashing the speaker's decision said basic constitutional values and principles of natural justice were not observed by Speaker K G Bopaiah in disqualifying the 11 rebel BJP and five independent legislators. AIR correspondent reports that the apex court passed  the order while setting aside the Karnataka High Court order upholding the Speaker's decision.

It is a mixed bag of development for BJP government in Karnataka. They won all the three seats in the by-election but on the other side Supreme Court slashed disqualification order passed by the Speaker against 11 BJP and five Independent MLAs. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has welcomed the apex court order and said party strength in the Assembly has gone up. He said that the Court has Judged that these MLAs still continue to remain in BJP hence with their support, the strength has gone up. The legal experts say that the verdict has just saved the petitioners from losing their Assembly membership. Former Prime Minister Deve Gowda has also said that the Speaker should resign to uphold the decorum of the office. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh returned to New Delhi from Kabul late yesterday evening after a two day visit to Afghanistan.  Dr. Singh unveiled a vision document for strategic partnership with Afghanistan during his visit.   In the joint declaration, signed following one on one talks between Dr.Manmohan Singh and Afghan President Hamid Karzai both the countries decided to work together in various sectors including combating terrorism, drug trafficking and money laundering. Dr. Singh reassured Kabul of New Delhi's continued help in its reconstruction process. He however made it clear that the development of Afghanistan is to be done and decided by the people of Afghanistan.

"Bengal makes her - story" remanks the Indian Express, while the Times of India says "Jaya ho Mamta! No Karuna left".

The Mail Today calls Mamta Banerjee as "Demolition Didi" as she routs the reds and sweeps to a landslide win, ending 34 years of unbroken Left rule in West Bengal. The Asian Age speculates that " FICCI's Amit Mitra tipped for Didi's dream team", and could get either the finance or industry portfolios.

The Economics Times writes on its front page that the Former Chief Secretary Manish Gupta has defeated his ex-boss Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya from his Jadavpur seat.

पश्चिम बंगाल, असम, तमिलनाडु, केरल और पुडुचेरी के विधानसभा चुनाव परिणाम आने के बाद इनमें नई सरकार के गठन की सरगर्मियां तेज हो गई हैं।
पश्चिम बंगाल में तीन-चौथाई बहुमत हासिल करने के बाद तृणमूल कांग्रेस की प्रमुख ममता बैनर्जी सरकार के गठन पर विचार के लिए आज शाम कोलकाता में कांग्रेस नेता प्रणव मुखर्जी के साथ बैठक करेंगी। सूत्रों ने कहा है कि सुश्री बैनर्जी श्री मुखर्जी से गठबंधन सरकार में शामिल होने का औपचारिक रूप से अनुरोध करेंगी। समझा जाता है कि दोनों नेता मंत्रिमंडल के गठन और विधान परिषद बनाने पर विचार विमर्श करेंगे। कल रात विधानसभा की सभी २९४ सीटों के परिणाम घोषित कर दिये गये। तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने अकेले १८१ सीटें जीती हैं। कांग्रेस को ४२ सीटें मिली हैं। दो सीटें तृणमूल कांग्रेस के सहयोगी दल एस यू सी आई ने हासिल की हैं।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि तृणमूल कांग्रेस और कांग्रेस पार्टी के नव-निर्वाचित सदस्यों की कल कोलकाता में बैठक होगी जिसमें भावी कार्यवाई पर विचार किया जायेगा। राज्य के लोगों को नयी सरकार से काफी उम्मीदें हैं।
पश्चिम बंगाल में अब राजनीतिक तस्वीर साफ हो गई है। कांग्रेस, तृणमल कांग्रेस गठबंधन के नेता और कार्यकर्ता एक ओर जहां विधानसभा चुनाव में अपनी एक तरफा जीत के बाद जश्न मनाने में मशगूल हैं, वहीं सीपीएम कार्यालय पर सन्नाट पसरा हुआ है। राज्य के वामपंथी गठबंधन सरकार के मुख्यमंत्री सहित अधिकांश मंत्री चुनाव हार गए हैं। इनमें कई ऐसे हैं जिन्हें पहली बार पराजय का मुंह देखना पड़ा है। वामपंथी गठबंधन पश्चिमी मिदनापुर, पुरुलिया, बांकुरा और बर्धमान जैसे जिलों में भी अपनी बढ़ बचाने में विफल रहा है, जहां उसने पिछले लोकसभा चुनाव में बेहतर प्रदर्शन किये थे। कांग्रेस-तृणमूल गठबंधन ने इन इलाकों में वाममोर्चे से कई सीट छीन ली हैं। संभवतः राज्य में पिछले तीन दशकों में ऐसा पहली बार हो रहा है कि सीपीएम को तीसरे स्थान पर संतोष करना पड़ा है। यहां तक कि कांग्रेस से भी कम सीटें उसे मिली हैं। लेकिन अब कांग्रेस, तृणमूल-कांग्रेस गठबंधन के सामने लोगों की अपेक्षाओं पर खरा उतरने की जिम्मेदारी है। लोगों को नयी सरकार से काफी उम्मीदे हैं। खासतौर से बेहतर कानून व्यवस्था में सुधार और आधारभूत संरचनाओं में बढ़ोतरी सभी के लिए अपेक्षित है।

तृणमूल कांग्रेस प्रमुख राज्य में विधान परिषद भी बनाना चाहती हैं ताकि उसमें प्रबुद्ध लोगों को शामिल किया जा सके, जो सिंगूर और नन्दीग्राम आन्दोलन के समय से वाम मोर्चा सरकार के खिलाफ उनका साथ दे रहे हैं।

असम में नव-निर्वाचित कांग्रेस विधायकों की कल गुआहाटी में बैठक होगी जिसमें औपचारिक रूप से नेता का चुनाव किया जायेगा। हमारे गुआहाटी संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि मुख्यमंत्री तरूण गोगोई के कांग्रेस विधायक दल का सर्वसम्मति से नेता चुने जाने की उम्मीद है। विधानसभा चुनाव में कांग्रेस ने १२६ सीटों में से ७८ जीतकर बहुमत प्राप्त किया है। ऑल इंडिया युनाइटेड डेमोक्रेटिक फ्रन्ट १८ सीटें जीतकर दूसरी सबसे बड़ी पार्टी के रूप में उभरी है। बोडोलैण्ड पीपुल्स फ्रन्ट ने १२ सीटें जीती हैं। तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने हाजो विधानसभा सीट जीतकर राज्य विधानसभा में अपना खाता खोला है। असम गण परिषद को १० और भारतीय जनता पार्टी को पांच सीटें मिली हैं। वाम दलों और राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी ने एक भी सीट नहीं जीती है जबकि दो सीटें निर्दलीय उम्मीदवारों के पक्ष में गई हैं।
इस बीच, श्री गोगोई की अपना त्यागपत्र देने के लिए आज राज्यपाल जानकी वल्लभ पटनायक से मिलने की सम्भावना है। श्री गोगोई ने कहा है कि राज्य की नई सरकार १९ मई से पहले शपथ लेगी।

वरिष्ठ कांग्रेस नेता मधुसूदन मिस्त्री और मोहसिना किदवई को केरल के लिए तथा प्रणव मुखर्जी और दिग्विजय सिंह को असम के लिए पार्टी प्रेक्षक बनाया गया है। व,े इन दोनों राज्यों में नये मुख्यमंत्रियों के चयन से पहले पार्टी विधायकों से विचार विमर्श करेंगे। पार्टी महासचिव जर्नादन द्विवेदी ने आज यह घोषणा की। कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व वाले यू डी एफ गठबंधन ने केरल में कड़े मुकाबले में एल डी एफ को हराया है जबकि असम में कांग्रेस पार्टी लगातार तीसरी बार सत्ता में आई है।

केरल के मुख्यमंत्री वी.एस अच्युतानंदन ने विधानसभा चुनाव परिणाम आने के बाद अपना इस्तीफा राज्यपाल आर.एस.गवई को सौंप दिया है, हालांकि वे नई सरकार के गठन तक कामकाज देखते रहेंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व वाले यू डी एफ ने नई सरकार के गठन पर विचार-विमर्श शुरू कर दिया है। यू डी एफ ने ७२ सीटें जीतकर साधारण बहुमत प्राप्त किया है।
मुख्यमंत्री पद से इस्तीफे के बाद श्री अच्युतानन्द ने कहा कि वे रचनात्मक और सकारात्मक विपक्ष की भूमिका में रहेंगे। उन्होंने सत्त्ता में वापसी न होने के लिए विधानसभा वार समीक्षा की बात भी कही। उधर, कांग्रेस नेतृत्व वाले यूडीएफ के नेता राज्य में सरकारबनाने की कवायद में जुट गए हैं। प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष रमेश चेत्रिथला ने बताया कि पार्टी के राज्य प्रभारी मधुसूदन मिस्त्री की उपस्थिति में विधायक दल के नेता के बारे में विचार किया जाएगा। इस बीच जानकारा दो सीटों से मिले बहुमत को यूडीएफ के लिए राजनीतिक चुनौती बता रहे हैं। खासकर सरकार के गठन में बीस सीटों वाले मुस्लिम लीग समेत एक-एक सीट वाले छोटे घटक दलों को संतुष्ट करने के साथ ही सदन में सशक्त विपक्ष के मुकाबले को।

तमिलनाडु में ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डी एम के पार्टी के नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों की अपना नेता चुनने के लिए कल चेन्नई में बैठक होगी। पार्टी की बैठक में आज फैसला लिया गया कि ए आई ए डी एम की प्रमुख गठबंधन सहयोगी डी एम डी के विधानसभा में मुख्य विपक्षी पार्टी होगी, क्योंकि उसके ३३ विधायक चुने गए हैं। नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों ने डी एम डी के नेता विजयकांत को विपक्ष का नेता बनाने का भी फैसला किया है।
हमारे संवाद्दाता ने खबर दी है कि ए आई ए डी एम के प्रमुख सुश्री जयललिता के निवास पर बधाई देने वालों का तांता लगा हुआ है। यू पी ए अध्यक्ष श्रीमती सोनिया गांधी और कई नेताओं ने जयललिता को जीत के लिए बधाई दी हैं।
चेन्नई की धड़कन कहे जाने वाले माउंट रोड़ और कई दूसरे इलाकों में एआईडीएमके की जीत की खुशियां जगह-जगह लगे बैनरों और पार्टी के झंडों में दिखाई दे रही हैं। अन्ना द्रमुक कार्यकर्ता शहर में अभी भी जगह-जगह पार्टी की जीत की खुशी मना रहे हैं। जयललिता आज अपनी पार्टी मुख्यालय का दौरा करेंगी, जहां एआईएकडीएमके के संस्थापक और अपने राजनीति गुरू एम.जी. रामचन्द्रन की प्रतिमा पर पुष्पांजलि अर्पित करेंगी। डीएमके सरकार का कार्यकाल कल औपचारिक तौर पर खत्म हो रहा है। एआईएडीएमके प्रमुख जयललिता कल राज्यपाल से मिलकर अपनी सरकार बनाने का दाव पेश कर सकती हैं।

दिल्ली में एक विशेष अदालत ने टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम मामले में आज फैसला शुक्रवार तक के लिए टाल दिया है। केन्द्रीय जांच ब्यूरो-सीबीआई के विशेष जज ओ. पी. सैनी ने डीएमके प्रमुख एम करूणानिधि की बेटी कनिमोढी सहित सभी आरोपियों की मौजूदगी सुनिश्चित करने के बाद ये घोषणा की।
सीबीआई के वकील ए० के० सिंह ने अदालत के बाहर संवाददाताओं को बताया कि न्यायाधीश ने फैसला इसलिए नही सुनाया कि वह तैयार नहीं था। अदालत ने कलाईग्नर टीवी के प्रबंध निदेशक शरद कुमार की जमानत की अर्जी पर संबंधी आदेश भी २० मई तक स्थगित कर दिया।
उच्चतम न्यायालय ने इस विशेष अदालत का गठन टू-जी मामले पर फैसले के लिए खासतौर से किया था। अदालत को कनिमोढी के भविष्य का फैसला करना है जिस पर शाहिद उस्मान बलवा की कंपनी डीबी रियल्टी से कलाईग्नर टीवी के लिए दो अरब रुपये की रिश्वत लेने का आरोप है। सीबीआई ने कनिमोढी पर पूर्व दूरसंचार मंत्री ए० राजा के साथ मिलकर साजिश रचने का आरोप लगाया है।

सी बी आई का एक दल टू जी स्पेक्ट्रम आवंटन घोटाले में शामिल विभिन्न दूरसंचार कंपनियों में लगाए गए पैसे की छानबीन करने सोमवार को मॉरिशस जाएगा। अदालत ने सीबीआई से उस पत्रकार के खिलाफ जांच भी तेज करने के निर्देश दिए जिसने टू जी घोटाले की जांच कर रहे प्रवर्तन निदेशालय के अधिकारी को कथित रूप से रिश्वत देने की कोशिश की थी।

कर्नाटक में विपक्ष के नेता कांग्रेस के सिद्धरमैया ने राज्य के १६ अयोग्य ठहराये गये विधायकों के पक्ष में उच्चतम न्यायालय के कल के फैसले के बाद राज्य की भाजपा सरकार को बर्खास्त किये जाने की मांग की है। आज बंगलूरू में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री सिद्धरमैया ने कहा कि अगर मुख्यमंत्री तुरन्त त्यागपत्र नहीं दिया और विधानसभा भंग नहीं की तो वे राज्यपाल से अनुच्छेद-३५६ के तहत सरकार भंग करने के लिए संवैधानिक कदम उठाने को कहेंगे। श्री सिद्धरमैया ने कहा कि उच्चतम न्यायालय के आदेश से पता चलता है कि विधानसभा अध्यक्ष ने राज्य सरकार को बचाने के लिए अयोग्य ठहराये गये विधायकों के खिलाफ पूर्वाग्रह से काम किया। उन्होंने इन १६ विधायकों के खिलाफ भेदभावपूर्ण कार्रवाई करने के लिए अध्यक्ष के इस्तीफे की मांग की।

जम्मू कश्मीर में पंचायत चुनाव के नवें चरण में सोमवार को नौ प्रखंडों में मतदान होगा। इनमें चार खंड जम्मू डिवीजन मे हैं और पांच ब्लॉक कश्मीर घाटी में हैं। राज्य में पंचायत चुनाव १६ चरणों में कराये जाने हैं जिनमें से आठ चरणों का मतदान शांतिपूर्वक संपन्न हो चुका है।

मणिपुर मंत्रिमंडल ने आंदोलनकारी यूनाइटेड नगा काउंसिल (यूएनसी) के साथ ३० मई को बातचीत करने का फैसला किया है। यह वार्ता सेनापति जिला मुख्यालय में होगी। सूचना और जनसम्पर्क मंत्री टी.एन.हाओकिप के नेतृत्व में मंत्रियों का एक दल वार्ता में राज्य सरकार का प्रतिनिधित्व करेगा। इसमें केन्द्रीय गृह मंत्रालय के अधिकारी भी भाग लेंगे। हमारे संवाद्दाता ने बताया है कि यू एन सी केन्द्र और राज्य सरकार के साथ अगले दौर की त्रिपक्षीय वार्ता शुरू करने पर जोर दे रहा है। यूएनसी नगा समुदाय के लिए एक वैकल्पिक प्रशासनिक व्यवस्था की मांग पर जोर दे रही हैं।

महाराष्ट्र में आतंकवाद निरोधक दस्ते ने पश्चिम बंगाल से आए दस नक्सलियों को गिरफ्तार किया है। वे पुणे जिले में शिरूर में छिपे हुए थे। आतंकवाद निरोधक दस्ते के प्रमुख राकेश मारिया ने कहा कि ये नक्सली पश्चिम बंगाल के सिधु-कान्हू नक्सली ग्रुप से जुड़े हैं और पश्चिमी मेदिनीपुर जिले से आए थे। उनसे चार पिस्तौल और नक्सली साहित्य बरामद किया गया। पुलिस ने बताया कि पांच नक्सलियों पर पश्चिम बंगाल में मुकदमें चल रहे हैं। पुणे की एक अदालत ने इन नक्सलियों को २३ मई तक ए टी एस की हिरासत में भेज दिया है।

बिहार में माओवादियों ने रोहतास जिले के चुटिया थाने के इलाके में परइया गांव से चार किसानों को बंधक बना लिया है। पुलिस सूत्रों के अनुसार ४० से अधिक माओवादियों ने कल रात गांव पर धावा बोला और बंदूक की नोंक पर इन किसानों को अज्ञात स्थान पर ले गए। माओवादियों से किसानों को सुरक्षित छुड़ाने के लिए कई जगहों पर छापे मारे जा रहे हैं।

मध्यप्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय ने यूनियन कार्बाइड कारखाने के जहरीले कचरे को हटाने की समयबद्ध कार्ययोजना उपलब्ध न कराने के लिए केन्द्र की आलोचना की है। न्यायालय ने पिछले महीने की २७ तारीख को केन्द्र सरकार को स्पष्ट कार्ययोजना प्रस्तुत करने का निर्देश दिया था। न्यायालय ने केन्द्र से कहा है कि वह २७ जून तक साफ-साफ बताये कि इस फैक्टरी के कचरे को कब और किस तरह निपटाया जाएगा।

अमरीका ने कहा है कि भारत अफगानिस्तान में रचनात्मक भूमिका निभा सकता है और वह अफगानिस्तान में भारत की भूमिका का स्वागत करेंगा। अमरीका के विदेश विभाग के प्रवक्ता ने वाशिंगटन में अपने दैनिक संवाददाता सम्मेलन में कहा कि भारत के साथ अमरीका के आपसी सम्बन्ध बहुत नजदीकी और महत्वपूर्ण हैं और वह इस क्षेत्र में भारत की भूमिका की सराहना करता है।
अमरीका के दक्षिण और मध्य एशिया मामलों के सहायक विदेश मंत्री रॉबर्ट ब्लेक ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह की काबुल यात्रा से पता चलता है कि भारत अफगानिस्तान को सुरक्षित और स्थिर बनाने के अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय प्रयासों में कितना योगदान दे रहा है। वाशिंगटन में भारत-अमरीका सम्बन्धों पर बोलते हुए श्री ब्लेक ने कहा कि डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह ने पाकिस्तान के साथ सम्बन्धों को सामान्य बनाने की दिशा में पहल की है। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत एक बड़ी आर्थिक शक्ति के रूप में उभर रहा है जिससे पाकिस्तान के लिए कई अवसर पैदा हो रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि दोनों देशों के बीच आर्थिक सम्बन्ध सामान्य होने से दोनों ही देशों के लाखो उद्यमियों किसानों और व्यापारियों को लाभ होगा।

डीम्ड एक्सपोर्ट्स के संबंध में सरकार ने अपनी नीति की समीक्षा के लिए एक विशेषज्ञ समिति बनाई है। ऐसा इसलिए किया गया है, क्योंकि इस क्षेत्र में उपलब्ध योजना के गलत इस्तेमाल के मामले सामने आए हैं। डीम्ड एक्सपोर्ट्स वैसे निर्यात होते हैं जिनमें उपभोक्ताओं को सप्लाई किया गया माल देश से बाहर नहीं जाता और जिनकी अदाएगी भारतीय या विदेशी मुद्रा की जा सकती है, कल शाम नई दिल्ली में जारी एक बयान में वित्त मंत्रालय ने कहा है कि सरकार ने पिछले सप्ताह एक समिति बनाई है, ताकि इस नीति को बेहतर और स्पष्ट स्वरूप दिया जा सके जिससे इस नीति के अलग-अलग अर्थ न निकाले जा सके।

भारत और कोलंबिया ने दोहरे कर से बचने के लिए समझौते पर दस्तखत किये हैं। कल शाम नई दिल्ली में जारी वित्त मंत्रालय की विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार, इस समझौते से लोगों को कर-स्थिरता का लाभ मिलेगा और दोनों देशों के बीच आर्थिक सहयोग आसान होगा। समझौते से निवेश, प्रौद्योगिकी और सेवाओं के प्रवाह में भी तेजी आएगी। इस समझौते में बैंकिंग और कर-संग्रह सहित अन्य सूचनाओं के आदान-प्रदान की व्यवस्था भी है। यह सुनिश्चित करने के प्रावधान भी किये गये हैं कि इसका लाभ दोनों देशों के पात्र नागरिकों को मिले।

सीरिया सरकार का राष्ट्रीय संवाद का प्रस्ताव ऐसे समय आया है जब देश लगातार चल रहें प्रदर्शनों के कारण गंभीर संकट से गुज+र रहा हैं। राजनीतिक सुधारों के वायदों आपात काल के हटाए जाने और सुरक्षा बलों की कार्यवाही के बावजूद प्रदर्शनों का सिलसिला जारी हैं और विपक्षी पार्टियां देश में व्यापक राजनीतिक सुधारों, सत्ता पर पार्टी के एकाधिकार के खात्में और राष्ट्रपति असद के सत्ता छोडने की मांग कर रहें हैं। विपक्ष सरकार पर प्रदर्शनों के विरूद्ध हिंसक बल प्रयोग का आरोप लगाता रहा है तो सरकार का कहना है कि हिंसा अराजक तत्वों द्वारा की जा रही है। इस बीच सीरिया सरकार परदबाव बनाने के लिए अमेरीका और यूरोपीय संघ ने कुछ प्रतिबंध लगाये हैं और संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार समिति ने मानवाधिाकर उल्लंघनों की जांच के लिए एक समिति की नियुक्ति की है।

जम्मू कश्मीर के राज्यपाल एन एन वोहरा ने कल चंदनवाड़ी और पहलगाम का दौरा किया तथा वार्षिक अमरनाथ यात्रा के लिए किये जा रहे प्रबन्धों की समीक्षा की। अमरनाथ यात्रा २९ जून को शुरू होगी। श्री वोहरा, श्री अमरनाथजी श्राइन बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष भी हैं। उन्होंने चंदनवाड़ी और पहलगाम में चल रही तैयारियों की प्रगति की समीक्षा की।
सरकारी प्रवक्ता के अनुसार राज्यपाल को बताया गया कि
पहलगाम-चंदनवाड़ी सड़क का सुधार किया जा रहा है और इसका एक बड़ा हिस्सा यात्रा शुरू होने से पहले ठीक कर लिया जायेगा।

आज कश्मीर घाटी में भूकंप के झटके महसूस किये गये। इसे चार दशमलव नौ मापा गया। अधिकारियों ने श्रीनगर में बताया कि सुबह तीन बजकर नौ मिनट पर आये इस भूकंप का केन्द्र अफगानिस्तान में हिन्दुकुश की पहाड़ियों में था। भूकंप से किसी नुकसान की खबर नहीं है।

उधर, आज आस्ट्रेलिया के क्रिसमस द्वीप और इंडोनेशिया के जावा द्वीप के बीच समुद्र में भी पांच दशमलव दो तीव्रता का भूकंप आया। क्रिसमस द्वीप से दो सौ २४ किलोमीटर दूर और जावा में तसिकमलय शहर से तीन सौ तीन किलोमीटर दूर, स्थानीय समय के अनुसार सुबह चार बजकर ४३ मिनट पर भूकंप के झटके महसूस किये गये।

After securing three-fourths majority in the assembly elections in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerji will meet Congress leader Pranab Mukherji in Kolkata this evening to discuss the government formation. Sources said, Ms. Banerji will formally request the Congress leader to join the coalition government and is also likely to deliberate on the cabinet formation. Of all the 294 results declared last night, Trinamool Congress alone secured 181 seats, while Congress bagged 42 seats. Two seats went to Trinamool partner SUCI. Our correspondent reports that Mamata Banerji has already declared that she will keep the size of the cabinet smaller than that of the Left Front.



Meanwhile, the newly elected members of both the Trinamool Congress and Congress party will meet in Kolkata tomorrow to chart out the future course of action.

Ms. Banerjee is planning to revive the West Bengal Legislative Council after her party and ally Congress secured a resounding victory in the Assembly elections. Trinamool Congress sources said the Trinamool chief was mulling the creation of Upper House, essentially to accommodate civil society members who have been backing her against the Left Front government since the Singur and Nandigram agitation days.

On 21st March 1969, a resolution was passed by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for the abolition of the Legislative Council. Subsequently, the Parliament passed the West Bengal Legislative Council (Abolition) Act, 1969 abolishing the Legislative Council with effect from 1st August 1969.

In Assam, the newly-elected Congress legislators are meeting in Guwahati tomorrow to elect their leader formally. Our Correspondent reports, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is likely to be elected unanimously as the new Congress Legislature Party leader in the Assembly. The Congress swept the Assembly elections with convincing majority by winning 78 of the 126 seats. The All India United Democratic Front emerged as the second largest party in the Assembly with 18 seats. The Bodoland People’s Front won almost all the 12 seats in the Bodo belt. The Trinamool Congress managed to open its account in the State by winning the Hajo Assembly constituency. The Asom Gana Parishad bagged 10 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party five. Two seats went to Independents.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gogoi is likely to meet the State Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik today to submit his resignation. Mr. Gogoi said, the new Government in the State is to take the oath before the 19th of this month.

In Kerala, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has submitted his resignation to Governer R.S. Gawai subsequent to yesterday's assembly election results. However, he will continue in office till the next government assumes charge. Our Correspondent reports, Congress led UDF which has secured a very thin majority by securing 72 seats is in the process of starting government formation discussions.



In Kerala, Congress party is in the process of initiating government formation discussions with other constituent parties of UDF. AICC General Secretary Madhusudhan Mistry who is in charge of Kerala will be reaching Thiruvananthapuram this evening. Meanwhile, Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan has clarified that LDF will function as a constructive opposition in the state. To a question whether VS factor has helped CPIM in the poll he did not give a direct answer. At the same time, Achuthanandan has opined that the disastrous performance of CPIM in West Bengal is a temporary phenomenon.

The Tamilnadu Sate Congress President K. V Thangabalu has tendered his resignation to Party chief today. Speaking to media persons in Chennai Mr. Thangabalu has accepted his party’s defeat. He said that he has decided to resign from the party president post because of poor performance of congress party in the Assembly elections. The congress which contested in 63 seats was able to mange only five seats.

Senior Congress leaders Madhushudhan Mistry and Mohsina Kidwai were today made central observers for Kerala while Pranab Mukherjee and Digvijay Singh have been entrusted with the task for Assam. Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Siddaramaiah has sought dismissal of the BJP government in Karnataka following yesterday's Supreme Court order in favor of sixteen disqualified MLAs. Speaking to the media persons in Bangalore today, Siddaramaiah said if the Chief Minister does not resign and dissolve the Assembly immediately then they will approach the Governor to initiate constitutional steps under Article 356 to dissolve the Government. He observed that Supreme Court order shows that Speaker acted with prejudice against the disqualified MLAs, just to save the Government. He sought the resignation of the Speaker for being partial in his action against the sixteen MLAs. Meanwhile Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has said, the eleven BJP MLAs who won the case yesterday against their disqualification are part of the Government and the BJP's strength has now gone up from 105 to 121.

A special court in Delhi today deferred the pronouncement of its order till May 20th on the 2G spectrum case. Special CBI Judge O P Saini made the announcement after marking the presence of all the accused including 43-year-old Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi. CBI lawyer A K Singh told reporters outside the court that the only reason which the judge gave for not pronouncing the order was that it was not ready. The court also adjourned its pronouncement of order till May 20 on the bail plea of Sharad Kumar, MD and CEO of Kalaignar TV.

The special court, designated by the Supreme Court to deal exclusively with the 2G case, has to decide the fate of Kanimozhi who has been accused of taking 200 crore rupee bribe for Kalaignar TV from Shahid Usman Balwa's firm DB Realty.

The CBI has accused her of conspiring with former Telecom Minister A. Raja. She has also been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act for taking bribe through Kalaignar TV--a channel run by the DMK -- in which the bribe of the 2G scam was routed.

Earlier, the court had on May 7th reserved its order on the bail pleas of Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar after hearing extensive arguments.

Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) has arrested 10 Maoists, hailing from West Bengal, from their hideout at Shirur in Pune district. ATS chief Rakesh Maria said the ultras, associated with Sidhu-Kanhu naxal group of West Bengal from West Midnapore district, were apprehended near Pune railway station when they were planning to flee from the state. He said four pistols and Naxal literature were recovered from their possession. Police said that five maoists have criminal cases pending against them in West Bengal. All 10 were booked under relevant sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Arms Act and remanded in ATS custody till May 23 by a local court in Pune.

In Bihar, suspected Maoists have abducted four farmers from Pararya village of Rohtas district. According to police, over 40 armed Maoists raided the village late last night and took four farmers to an unknown place at gunpoint. Raids are on in the area to secure release of the farmers and apprehend the ultras.

In Manipur, the government has decided to hold talks with the agitating United Naga Council (UNC) on the 30th of this month. The talks will be held at Senapati. A group of Ministers led by Information and Public Realtions Minister T N Haokip will represent the state government in the talks. Union Home Ministry officials will also attend the talks as facilitator.
Our correspondent reports, the UNC has been pressing the Centre for initiating the next round of tripartite talks with the Centre and the state government. They reiterated their demand for an alternate arrangement of administration for the Nagas in Manipur.

The US has said, India can play a constructive role in Afghanistan and it will welcome New Delhi's involvement in the war-torn nation. State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters at his daily news conference in Washington that America's bilateral relationship with India is quite close and robust. It recognises India's role in the region and is frankly encouraged by it playing a more active and constructive role. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake said, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Kabul underscored India's strong efforts to support international efforts to rebuild a secure and stable Afghanistan. Blake, speaking on India-US relations at a Washington-based think tank, noted that Dr. Singh has spearheaded initiative to normalise relations with Pakistan. He said, India's economic rise presents an enormous opportunity to Pakistan, and the normalisation of economic ties could provide immense benefits to millions of entrepreneurs, farmers and businessmen in both the countries.

In Pakistan, a joint session of parliament has unanimously called for a review of security and foreign policies. It demanded an end to United States' drone attacks, and said the government should consider stopping the transit of supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan.

In Syria, the government has announced to hold a national dialogue to resolve the crisis in the country. Minister of Information Dr. Adnan Mahmoud said in a press conference in Damascus last evening that the comprehensive national dialogue will include all Syrian governorates. According to official news agency Sana, Dr. Mahmoud added that the government is currently implementing a comprehensive reform package that includes political, economic and social reform. Meanwhile reports quoting witnesses say, six people were killed in the country yesterday due to firing by security personnel on demonstrators. India has signed Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, DTAA, with Republic of Colombia for Avoidance of Double Taxation and for Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on income. According to the Finance Ministry release issued in New Delhi last evening, the agreement will provide tax stability to the residents of the two countries and facilitate mutual economic cooperation along with stimulating the flow of investment, technology and services. The Agreement also incorporates provisions for effective exchange of information, including banking information, and assistance in collection of taxes between the tax authorities of the two countries in line with internationally accepted standards.

Corporate Affairs Minister Murli Deora has called for expediting the process of liquidation of companies. In the conference of Official Liquidators organised by the Ministry, Mr Deora said, changes in the rules regarding liquidation are also being considered. During the meeting, it was decided to set up specific time-bound targets for the process of liquidation and to augment the manpower available with the liquidators. The meeting also took note of various new guidelines drafted by the Ministry for better preservation of assets of companies under liquidation ensuring that the creditors and shareholders get what is due to them. It was opined during the meeting that the time taken for liquidation of companies is one of the major factors responsible for India’s low rank in the global "doing business survey" conducted by the World Bank.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has pulled up the Centre for not filing a time-bound action plan for removal of toxic waste from the closed Union Carbide factory. The court had directed the central government on the 27th of last month to file a time- bound action plan in this regard. It has asked the centre to come out with a clear stand as when and in what manner the waste will be disposed by the next hearing on 27th June.

More than 231 lakh tonnes wheat has been procured by various government agencies during the current Rabi marketing season. Total procurement has touched the figure of over 231 lakh tonnes till yesterday against the procurement of about 214 lakh tonnes during the last marketing season. Maximum procurement of over 106 lakh tonnes has been recorded in Punjab, while Haryana has procured about 67 lakh tonnes and Madhya Pradesh 36 lakh 78 thousand tonnes. Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have also procured significant quantity which is over 12 and Eight lakh tonnes respectively.

The government has formed an expert committee to review deemed exports policy where there have been incidents of misuse of the scheme. Deemed exports refer to those transactions in which goods supplied to the users do not leave the country and payment for such supplies is received either in Indian currency or in foreign exchange. According to a Commerce Ministry statement issued in New Delhi last evening, the government constituted a panel last week to improve drafting of the policy aimed at avoiding multiple interpretations. Besides, the group would examine whether the scheme properly reflects the government priorities. The committee has invited comments from stakeholders in this regard. It would also meet RBI Governor D Subbarao and Planning Commission Member B K Chaturvedi for discussions and is expected to submit its report to the Commerce Ministry by August.

पेट्रोल की कीमत में पांच रूपये प्रति लीटर की वृद्धि की गई है। ये वृद्धि आज मध्य रात्रि से लागू होंगी। तेल कंपनियों- इंडियन ऑयल, भारत पेट्रोलियम और हिन्दुस्तान पेट्रोलियम ने दिल्ली में चार रूपये 99 पैसे और पांच रूपये एक पैसे के बीच दाम बढ़ाने का फैसला किया है।
दिल्ली में इंडियन ऑयल के पेट्रोल पंपो में 63 रूपये 37 पैसे प्रति लीटर की दर पर पेट्रोल मिलेगा, जबकि मुंबई में 68 रूपये 33 पैसे की दर पर। कोलकाता में 67 रूपये 71 पैसे प्रति लीटर पेट्रोल मिलेगा तो चेन्नई में ं67 रूपये ं22 पैसे प्रति लीटर। भारत पेट्रोलियम और हिन्दुस्तान पेट्रोलियम के पेट्रोल की कीमतों में कुछ पैसों का मामूली अंतर रहेगा।
पिछले वर्ष जून में तेल की कीमत पर से सरकारी नियंत्रण हटा लिया गया था।

कर्नाटक के राज्यपाल हंसराज भारद्वाज ने कहा है कि उच्चतम न्यायालय ने भारतीय जनता पार्टी के बागी विधायकों को अयोग्य घोषित करने के खिलाफ जो फैसला दिया है वो विधानसभा के अध्यक्ष और मुख्य मंत्री के खिलाफ एक गंभीर टिप्पणी है। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने भाजपा के बागी विधायकों को अयोग्य घोषित करने के अध्यक्ष के फैसले को कल निरस्त कर दिया था।
प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह के साथ शिष्टाचार मुलाकात के बाद राज्यपाल ने कहा कि सदन के भीतर विभिन्न दलों की संख्या के आधार पर शक्ति परीक्षण होना चाहिए।

कर्नाटक में विपक्षी दलों ने अयोग्य घोषित किये गये विधायकों के बारे में उच्चतम न्यायालय का फैसला आने के बाद मुख्यमंत्री बी एस येडुयुरप्पा और विधानसभा अध्यक्ष के जी बोपैय्‌या के इस्तीफे की मांग की है। विधानसभा में विपक्ष के नेता सिद्दरमैय्‌या ने कहा है कि वे राज्यपाल हंसराज भारद्वाज से मिलेंगे और अनुच्छेद 356 के अंतर्गत राज्य की भाजपा सरकार को बर्खास्त किये जाने के लिये सिफारिश करने का अनुरोध करेंगे। लेकिन मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा है कि अदालत के आदेश के बाद जिन विधायकों की सदन की सदस्यता बनी हुई है वे भाजपा में बने रहेगें और उनकी सरकार अपना कार्यकाल पूरा करेगी।

येडुयुरप्पा की पार्टी ने उपचुनाव में तीनों स्थान जीतने का हर्ष व्यक्त किया तभी सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के नतीजे ने एक और संकट पैदा किया है। सोमवार से विधानसभा अधिवेशन आरम्भ करने की कैबिनेट निर्णय को राज्यपाल का ठप्पा लगना बाकी है। बीजेपी को 109 विधायकों का समर्थन प्राप्त है उनको बहुमत के लिए 112 विधायकों का समर्थन चाहिए। इस सिलसिले में अब 11 बीजेपी रेबिल विधायकों का निर्णय अधिवेशन में प्रमुख पार्ट निभायेगा। सुधीन्द्र आकाशवाणी समाचार बैंगलुरू।

पांच विधानसभा चुनावों के नतीजों की घोषणा के बाद नई सरकारों के गठन के लिए गतिविधियां तेज हो गई हैं।
तृणमूल कांग्रेस के नव-निर्वाचित विधायकों की बैठक कल कोलकाता में होगी। पार्टी प्रमुख ममता बनर्जी को तृणमूल कांग्रेस विधायक दल की नेता सर्वसम्मति से चुने जाने की पूरी संभावना है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि सुश्री ममता बैनजी ने नई सरकार में शामिल होने के लिए कांग्रेस को आमंत्रण दिया है।

नई सरकार के गठन के लिए तृणमूल कांग्रेस प्रमुख ममता बैनर्जी कांग्रेस के वरिष्ठ नेता प्रणब मुखर्जी के साथ प्रारम्भिक दौर की चर्चा कर चुकी हैं। उन्होंने नई सरकार में शामिल होने के लिए कांग्रेस को आमंत्रण भी दे दिया है। इस पर अंतिम निर्णय कांग्रेस हाईकमान को लेना है। ममता बैनर्जी घोषित कर चुकी हैं कि उनके मंत्रिमंडल का आकार पिछली वामपंथी सरकार की तुलना में छोटा होगा। इस बीच तृणमूल कांग्रेस नेतृत्व ने पार्टी के चुनावी घोषणा पत्र को लागू करने की कार्ययोजना तैयार करने के लिए कौर समूहों को सक्रिय कर दिया है। सुनील शुक्ल आकाशवाणी समाचार कोलकाता।
कांग्रेस ने भी पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार में शामिल होने के बारे में अपने नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों की राय जानने के लिये कल उनकी बैठक बुलायी है। 294 सदस्यों वाली पश्चिम बंगाल विधानसभा में तृणमूल कांग्रेस गठबंधन ने तीन चौथाई सीटें जीती हैं। सुश्री बनर्जी ने 34 वषोर्ं के बाद पश्चिम बंगाल में पहली बार गैर कम्युनिस्ट सरकार के गठन के लिए अपना दावा पेश किया है।
असम में नवनिर्वाचित कांग्रेस विधायकों की बैठक कल गुवाहाटी में हो रही है जिसमें औपचारिक रूप से मुख्यमंत्री तरूण गोगोई को सर्वसम्मति से विधायक दल का नया नेता चुने जाने की संभावना है। श्री गोगोई ने कहा कि नई सरकार 19 मई को शपथ ग्रहण करेगी। वरिष्ठ कांग्रेस नेता मधुसूदन मिस्त्री और मोहसिना किदवई को केरल के लिये जबकि श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी और श्री दिग्विजय सिंह को असम के लिये केन्द्रीय पर्यवेक्षक बनाया गया है। केरल में नई सरकार के गठन के बारे में विचार के लिए कांग्रेस विधायक दल और यू डी एफ के अन्य घटक दलों की बैठकें कल तिरूअनंतपुरम में अलग-अलग होंगी। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि मुख्यमंत्री वी एस अच्युतानंदन ने अपना इस्तीफा केरल के राज्यपाल को सौंप दिया है।

प्रदेश में यूडीएफ सरकार के गठन के लिए गतिविधियां तेज हो गयी हैं। कांग्रेस हाईकमान के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में पार्टी महासचिव मधुसूदन मिस्त्री और श्रीमती मोहसिना किदवई कल तिरूअनंतपुरम पहुंचने वाले हैं। इन दोनों ही नेताओं की उपस्थिति में विधायक दल के नेता के बारे में निर्णय लिया जायेगा। जानकारों की मानें, तो श्री ओम्मन चांडी के नेतृत्व में नयी सरकार के अगले सप्ताह सत्तारूढ़ होने के पुख्ता संकेत हैं। इस बीच यूडीएफ नेताओं ने मोर्चे के पूरी तरह एकजुट होने का दावा किया है। राघवेश पांडेय आकाशवाणी समाचार तिरूअनंतपुरम।

पुद्दुचेरी म,ें एन आर कांग्रेस नेता एन रंगासामी ने कहा है कि वे शीघ्र ही राज्य के मुख्यमंत्री का पद संभालेंगे। सेलम में पत्रकारों से बातचीत करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार गठबंधन की होगी या नही इसके बारे में फैसला बाद में लिया जाएगा। इस बीच, मुख्यमंत्री वी वैद्यलिंगम ने उपराज्यपाल को अपना इस्तीफा सौपने के बाद कहा है कि नई विधानसभा में कांग्रेस एक जिम्मेदार विपक्ष की भूमिका निभायेगी।

तमिलनाडु में आल इण्डिया अन्ना डी एम के पार्टी के नवनिर्वाचित विधायकों की बैठक चेन्नई में कल होगी जिसमें पार्टी के नेता का चुनाव किया जायेगा। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि जयललिता को आल इण्डिया अन्ना डी एम के विधायक दल का नेता चुने जाने की पूरी संभावना है और उसके बाद वह सरकार बनाने का दावा पेश करने के लिये राज्यपाल सुरजीत सिंह बरनाला से मिलेंगी।

अन्ना द्रमुक नेता जयललिता राज्य में तीसरी बार मुख्यमंत्री की कुर्सी पर बैठने जा रही हैं। ए आई ए डी एम के की प्रमुख जयललिता राज्यपाल से मिलकर अपनी सरकार बनाने का दावा पेश करेंगी। सुश्री जयललिता ने फिर कहा है कि चुनाव के दौरान किये गये वादों को डेढ़ साल में पूरा कर दिया जायेगा। उधर चुनाव नतीजों में डीएमके सहित धराशाही हो गईं तमाम पार्टियां अब अपनी हार का कारण खोज रही हैं। संजय प्रताप सिंह आकाशवाणी समाचार चैन्नई।
234 सदस्यीय विधानसभा में आल इण्डिया अन्ना डी एम के पार्टी और उसके सहयोगी दलों को 203 सीटें मिली हैं। पार्टी ने 160 सीटों पर अपने उम्मीदवार खड़े किये थे जिनमें से 150 सीटों पर वह विजयी हुई है और इसकी पूरी संभावना है कि वह अकेले सरकार बनाये।
डी एम डी के पार्टी के नव-निर्वाचित विधायकों की आज बैठक हुई जिसमें विजयकांत को नेता चुना गया। आल इण्डिया अन्ना के ने ए आई ए डी एम के पार्टी ने साथ मिलकर चुनाव लड़ा था और 41 सीटों में से 29 सीटों पर उसकी जीत हुई है और वह विधानसभा में दूसरी सबसे बड़ी पार्टी बनकर उभरी है।
इस बीच, तमिलनाडु प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी के अध्यक्ष के वी थंगवालू ने कहा है कि चुनाव में पार्टी की हार के लिये नैतिक जिम्मेदारी स्वीकार करते हुए वे अपना इस्तीफा पार्टी अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी को भेज रहे हैं।

दिल्ली में विशेष सी.बी.आई. अदालत ने टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम घोटाला मामले में फैसला 20 मई शुक्रवार तक टाल दिया है।
सी.बी.आई. के वकील ए0 के0 सिंह ने बताया कि फैसला तैयार न होने की वजह से सुनाया नहीं जा सका। अदालत ने कलईयंर टीवी के प्रबंध निदेशक शरद कुमार की जमानत याचिका संबंधी आदेश भी 20 मई तक स्थगित कर दिया।
उच्चतम न्यायालय ने इस विशेष अदालत का गठन टू-जी मामले पर खासतौर से किया था। डी.एम.के. प्रमुख करूणानिधि की बेटी कणिमोरी पर शाहिद उस्मान बलवा की कंपनी डीबी रियल्टी से कलईयंर टीवी के लिए दो अरब रुपये की रिश्वत लेने का आरोप है।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने सरकार को देश के 150 जिलों के लिए 50 लाख टन अतिरिक्त अनाज आवंटित करने का निर्देश दिया है। न्यायमूर्ति दलबीर भंडारी और दीपक वर्मा की एक पीठ ने सरकार से कहा है कि वह न्यायमूर्ति डी0 पी0 वाधवा समिति के दिशानिर्देश में, समाज के सबसे कमजोर तबके के लिए गर्मी के महीनों में अतिरिक्त अनाज उपलब्ध कराये।

मध्यप्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय ने यूनियन कार्बाइड कारखाने के जहरीले कचरे को हटाने की समयबद्ध कार्ययोजना उपलब्ध न कराने के लिए केन्द्र की आलोचना की है। न्यायालय ने पिछले महीने की 27 तारीख को केन्द्र सरकार को स्पष्ट कार्ययोजना प्रस्तुत करने का निर्देश दिया था। न्यायालय ने केन्द्र से कहा है कि वह 27 जून तक साफ-साफ बताये कि इस फैक्टरी के कचरे को कब और किस तरह निपटाया जाएगा।

भारतीय अंतरीक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन-इसरो अगले शुक्रवार को फ्रैंच गयाना में कोउरू से जी-सैट-8 उपग्रह छोड़ेगा। इसरो के अध्यक्ष राधाकृष्णन ने बंगलौर में इसकी जानकारी देते हुए कहा कि 3100 किलोग्राम भार वाले उपग्रह में के.यू. बैंड के 24 ट्रासपोंडर लगाये गये हैं, जिनसे डी.टी.एच. टेलीविजन सेवाएं भी मिल सकेंगी। उन्होंने कहा कि उपग्रह छोड़े जाने के आधे घंटे के भीतर कर्नाटक के हासन में मास्टर कन्ट्रोल रूम से इसका नियंत्रण हो जाएगा। यह उपग्रह ंजून से काम करना शुरू कर देगा।

तीन दिवसीय मानव तस्करी रोकथाम कार्यशाला आज नई दिल्ली में समाप्त हो गई। सभी राज्यों और केन्द्र शासित प्रदेशों के वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारियों ने कार्यशाला में हिस्सा लिया जिसमें देश भर में तीन सौ मानव तस्करी विरोधी ईकाइयां स्थापित करने का फैसला किया गया। कार्यशाला में इसके लिये करीब दस हजार पुलिसकर्मियों को तीन साल में प्रशिक्षित करने का फैसला किया गया है जो मानव तस्करी के शिकार लोगों के बचाव और पुनर्वास का काम देखेंगे।

Petrol Price has gone up by five rupees a litre. This comes in to effect from midnight tonight. Oil Marketing companies - Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum - decided to hike rates between 4.99 rupees and 5 rupees one paise rupees per litre in Delhi. Petrol in Delhi currently costs 58 rupees 37 paise a litre.

The new price of petrol in Indian Oil outlets in other metros will be 63 rupees 37 paise in Delhi, 68 rupees 33 paise in Mumbai, 67 rupees 71 paise in Kolkata and 67 rupees 22 paise in Chennai. Price at Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum outlets will vary by a few paise. The government had freed petrol price from government control in June last year.

Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj says, the Supreme Court judgement on disqualifying rebel BJP MLAs is a stricture against the Assembly Speaker and the Chief Minister of the state. The apex court yesterday had quashed the Speaker's decision to disqualify rebel BJP MLAs. After a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, which he described as courtesy call, the Governor said the judgement reversing the High Court verdict on this issue as an endorsement of his stand that the floor test should be taken on the respective strength of the parties in the Assembly.



The Governor refused to comment on whether he will advice for seeking a trust vote to the Karnataka Government. He said he will first study the case and then write to the state government.

Meanwhile, the Congress today charged the BJP with orchestrating constitutional conspiracy in Karnataka. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Party Spokesman Manish Tewari said that the BJP has converted the minority government into a manufactured majority in the State. Opposition parties in Karnataka have sought resignation of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Speaker K G Boppaiah following Supreme Court verdict on disqualified MLAs. The Chief Minister however has said that MLAs who have retained their Assembly membership due to court order will continue in BJP and his government will complete its tenure. The Opposition is banking upon Governor to act against the Government and is targeting the Speaker. The session to be scheduled from Monday is yet to receive nod from the Governor. Governor, who is in Delhi, is likely to come to Bangalore tomorrow. BJP has the support of 109 MLAs. With one vacant seat in the Assembly, BJP needs 112 MLAs to gain majority. Hence the decision taken by the rebel BJP MLAs who survived anti-defection law provisions, will play a crucial role in deciding the fate of the Government, when the session begins here. Hectic parleys are on after yesterday's poll verdict in the Assembly elections on formation of new governments. The newly elected members of the Trinmool Congress are meeting in Kolkata tomorrow to elects its leader in West Bengal Assembly. The Party Chief Mamata Benerjee is all set to be elected as the next Chief Minister to head the first non Communist party Government in West Bengal after 34 years. In Tamil Nadu, the newly elected M.L.A’s of the AIADMK party will be meeting in Chennai tomorrow to elect the leader of the party. Our correspondent reports that Jayalalitha is all set to be elected the leader of the AIADMK legislative party, after which she will call on Governor Surjit Singh Barnala to stake her claim to form the government. The Party which contested 160 seats won in 150 constituencies and is most likely to form a government on its own.



Speaking to news persons Jayalalitha said the people had reposed great confidence in the AIADMK and reiterated that she would fulfill the promises made by her party in the election manifesto.

The newly elected members of the DMDK party met and elected Vijayakanth as leader of the party. Earlier, speaking to reporters Vijayakanth had hinted that DMDK may work as a constructive opposition party, pinpointing mistakes and support welfare schemes. The DMDK which contested the elections as an ally of the AIADMK finished second winning 29 out of the 41 seats. Ruling DMK has been pushed to 3rd position.

In Kerala, separate meetings of Congress Parliamentary party and constituent parties of UDF will be held tomorrow at Thiruvananthapuram to form the new government. Our Correspondent reports that Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan has submitted his resignation to Kerala Governor.



Sources indicate that senior congress leader Oomen Chandy will be the next Chief Minister of Kerala. However, the same will be decided after final approval of Congress highcommand in coming days. Indian Space Research Organisation - ISRO - is to launch GSAT 8 satellite on next Friday from Kourou in French Guiana. Disclosing this to news persons in Bangalore today ISRO Chairman Radhakrishnan said the 3100 kilogram satellite has 24 Ku transponder for Direct to Home television services and Ku band relay. He said, within half an hour of the launch, the Master Control Facility in Hassan in Karnataka will receive the signals from the satellite. The satellites will start functioning from June.

A special court in Delhi today deferred the pronouncement of its order till May 20 on 2G spectrum case. Special CBI Judge O P Saini made the announcement after marking the presence of all the accused including 43-year-old Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi. CBI lawyer A K Singh told reporters outside the court that the only reason which the judge gave for not pronouncing the order was that it was not ready.The court also adjourned its pronouncement of order till May 20 on the bail plea of Sharad Kumar, MD and CEO of Kalaignar TV.The special court, designated by the Supreme Court to deal exclusively with the 2G case, has to decide the fate of Kanimozhi who has been accused of taking 200 crore rupee bribe for Kalaignar TV from Shahid Usman Balwa's firm DB Realty.

Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) has arrested 10 Maoists, hailing from West Bengal, from their hideout at Shirur in Pune district. ATS chief Rakesh Maria said the ultras, associated with Sidhu-Kanhu naxal group of West Bengal from West Midnapore district, were apprehended near Pune railway station when they were planning to flee from the state. He said four pistols and Naxal literature were recovered from their possession.Police said that five maoists have criminal cases pending against them in West Bengal.
