सरकार देश के वनों की स्थिति में सुधार लाने के लिए अगले वर्ष हरित भारत मिशन शुरू करेगी। मिशन का कार्यकाल दस वर्ष का रहेगा और इस पर चार खरब साठ अरब रूपए खर्च होने का अनुमान है। केन्द्रीय पर्यावरण और वन राज्यमंत्री जयराम रमेश ने कल नई दिल्ली में कहा कि जलवायु परिवर्तन पर प्रधानमंत्री परिषद पहले ही इस मिशन की मंजूरी दे चुकी है। जलवायु परिवर्तन पर राष्ट्रीय कार्ययोजना के तहत मंजूर आठ मिशनों में ये मिशन भी शामिल है। मिशन के तहत ग्राम सभाओं के जरिये वानिकी कार्यक्रम लागू किए जाएंगे। इससे देश के एक करोड़ हेक्टेयर वन क्षेत्र का बेहतर रख-रखाव होगा और उनकी स्थिति में सुधार आएगा। जनवरी २०१३ तक सरकार वनों पर लगातार निगरानी रखने की स्थिति में आ जाएगी। श्री जयराम रमेश ने कहा कि विकास के साथ-साथ पर्यावरण संरक्षण को भी पूरा महत्व दिया जाएगा।हमारे सामने दो चुनौतियां हैं विकास आगे बढ़ांए, विकास के दर को आगे बढ़ांए और तेजी से बढ़ांए परन्तु उस तरीके से बढ़ांए जो पर्यावरण को सुरक्षित रखे।

कांग्रेस ने कहा है कि पार्टी साम्प्रदायिक ताकतों के खिलाफ राष्ट्रव्यापी अभियान शुरू करेगी। यह फैसला पार्टी अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी की अध्यक्षता में हुई पार्टी पदाधिकारियों की बैठक में किया गया। इस बैठक में केन्द्रीय मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी, पी चिदम्बरम, ए के एंटनी, कपिल सिब्बल और पार्टी अध्यक्ष के राजनीतिक सचिव अहमद पटेल ने भाग लिया। पार्टी नेता गुलाम नबी आजाद, मुकुल वासनिक, वीरेन्द्र सिंह और जगदीश टाइटलर भी बैठक में उपस्थित थे। बैठक के बाद वरिष्ठ पार्टी नेता जनार्दन द्विवेदी ने कहा कि पिछले संसदीय चुनाव में हारने वाले राजनीतिक दल डर और भय दिखाकर अपना खोया जनाधार पाने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि सभी राज्य इकाईयों से कहा जाएगा कि वे सरकार की उपलब्धियों को उजाकर करें और मौजूदा अभियान के पीछ इनके असली इरादों का पर्दाफाश करें।.......................
मुम्बई में अनुमानित समय से पांच दिन पहले ही कल मॉनसून की पहली वर्षा हुई। दक्षिण-पश्चिम मॉनसून आम तौर पर मुम्बई में १० जून को पहुंचता है लेकिन पिछले पांच वर्षों में इस बार यह समय से पहले आ गया है।मौसम विभाग के पश्चिमी क्षेत्र की उपमहानिदेशक डॉ. आर वी शर्मा के अनुसार अरब सागर में चल रही मानॅसून की तेज हलचल और शहर पर हवा के घुमाव के कारण मुम्बई में मॉनसून का समय से ही पहले आगमन हो गया। पिछले नौ घंटों में कोलाबा में १९ दशमलव सात मिलीमीटर बारिश दर्ज हुई। वहीं सैंटाक्रूज में ५९ प्रतिशत बारिश पांच मिलीमीटर बारिश दर्ज हुई है। बहरहाल आ ज सुबह से शहर में मौसम खुशनुमा बना हुआ है। मौसम विभाग की भविष्यवाणी के अनुसार आने वाले २४ घंटों में शहर के कुछ भागों में भारी बारिश हो सकती है।

कोंकण में भी कुछ जगहों पर वर्षा हुई। महाराष्ट्र में मराठवाड़ा समेत कई इलाकों में बारिश पड़ी। अगले दो तीन दिनों में दक्षिण गुजरात, मध्य महाराष्ट्र के कुछ हिस्सों, मराठवाड़ा, कर्नाटक के कुछ इलाकों और पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों के कुछ हिस्सों में मॉनसून पहुंचने की अनुकूल परिस्थितियां बनी हुई है। लेकिन पश्चिम राजस्थान के कुछ हिस्सों तथा सौराष्ट्र और कच्छ में कहीं कहीं भीषण गर्मी पड़ रही है।
उत्तर भारत में कई इलाको में तापमान ४० डिग्री सैल्सियस से ऊपर है। राजधानी दिल्ली में लोगों को भीषण गर्मी का सामना करना पड़ रहा है और तापमान सामान्य से दो डिग्री अधिक होकर ४२ दशमलव दो डिग्री सेल्सियस तक पहुंच गया है।
पंजाब और हरियाणा में अधिकतर जगहों पर तापमान ४० डिग्री सेल्सियस से ऊपर बना हुआ है। हिसार में सर्वाधिक तापमान ४३ दशमलव ५ डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया।
उत्तर प्रदेश में भी गर्मी का प्रकोप जारी है। वाराणसी और इलाहाबाद में तापमान ४३ डिग्री सेल्सियस रिकॉर्ड किया गया। लेकिन उत्तराखंड में हल्की बारिश से मौसम खुशगवार हो गया है।
तेज हवाओं साथ ओलावृष्टी और फिर बारिश से राजधानी देहरादून के लोगों को गर्मी से राहत मिली है। प्राप्त सूचना के अनुसार उत्तरकाशी के यमुना घाटी में धूल भरी आंधी और कुछ अन्य स्थानों पर तेज हवाओं के साथ बारिश से विद्युत आपूर्ति पर असर पड़ा है। मौसम विभाग ने आने वाले २४ घंटों में राज्य के पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों में खासकर सीमांत जिले उत्तरकाशी चमौली और पिथौरागढ़ में बौछार पड़ने की संभावना व्यक्त की है।

कश्मीर घाटी मे तापमान में बढ़ौतरी हुई है। श्रीनगर में तापमान ३० डिग्री सेल्सियस रहा जो कि सामान्य से दो डिग्री अधिक है।
हिमाचल प्रदेश में अधिकतम तापमान २६ डिग्री सेल्सियस था जिससे मौसम सुहाना बना हुआ है। उत्तराखंड के कुछ जिलों में कल बारिश हुई।

गोवा में भारतीय भाषा सुरक्षा मंच ने प्राथमिक विद्यालयों में शिक्षा के माध्यम के मुद्दे पर राज्यव्यापी बंद का आह्वान किया है। यह संगठन अंग्रेजी माध्यम के विद्यालयों को अनुदान देने के सरकार के फैसले का विरोध कर रहा है। अभी तब सरकारी अनुदान केवल मराठी और कोंकणी माध्यम के प्राथमिक विद्यालयों को ही दिया जाता है। संगठन का कहना है कि अंग्रेजी माध्यम के स्कूलों को सरकारी अनुदान देने से राज्य में क्षेत्रीय भाषाएं खत्म हो जाएंगी।राज्य सरकार ने बंद के आयोजकों से सख्ती से निपटने का फैसला किया है और बंद के दौरान कानून व्यवस्था बनाये रखने के व्यापक प्रबंध किए हैं।

पाकिस्तान में कल उत्तर पश्चिमी प्रांत खैबर पख्तूनख्वा में दो विस्फोटों में २५ लोग मारे गए और पचास घायल हो गए । पुलिस के अनुसार आतंकवादियों ने सेना की एक बेकरी और बस स्टॉप को निशाना बनाया। पेशावर से ४० किलोमीटर दूर नौशेरा छावनी की एक बेकरी में किये गए विस्फोट में १८ लोग मारे गए और लगभग चालीस घायल हो गए। इससे पहले सुबह पेशावर के निकट मतनी में बस स्टॉप पर वैन में बम विस्फोट से सात लोगों की मौत हो गई और दस घायल हो गये। पाकिस्तानी तालिबान ने इन दोनों हमलों की जिम्मेदारी ली है।.......................
उत्तर प्रदेश में राज्य के विशेष कार्यबल और जिला पुलिस के संयुक्त दल ने जाली मुद्रा के रैकेट में शामिल आई एस आई के एक एजेंट को कल मेरठ में गिरफ्तार कर लिया। पुलिस उप महानिरीक्षक प्रेम प्रकाश ने बताया कि आई एस आई के इस एजेंट की पहचान मंजूर मियां उर्फ मंजूर आलम उर्फ मंजूर अंसारी के रूप में की गई ह,ै जो नेपाल के पारसा जिले का निवासी है।पुलिस ने मंजूर के पास से २५ हजार रुपये के सौ-सौ के नकली नोट, मोबाईल फोन और कुछ अन्य सामान बरामद किया है।

अहमदाबाद में २००८ में हुये सिलसिलेवार बम धमाकों के आरोपी मुजीब शेख को कल मध्य प्रदेश के आतंकवाद विरोधी पुलिस दस्ते ने जबलपुर में गिरफ्तार कर लिया । पुलिस ने बताया कि मुजीब शेख कथित रूप से प्रतिबंधित संगठन इंडियन मुजाहिद्दीन और सिमी का सदस्य है। मुजीब शेख २६ जुलाई २००८ को अहमदाबाद में हुए बम धमाको के बाद से ही फरार था। इन धमाकों में ५७ लोग मारे गए थे और २०० से अधिक लोग घायल हुए थे।.......................
विदेश सचिव निरूपमा राव दो दिन की बंगलादेश यात्रा पर आज ढाका पहुंची। भारत और बंगलादेश के बीच कल विदेश सचिव स्तर की वार्ता होगी जिसमें आपसी संबंधों के विभिन्न पहलुओं और क्षेत्रीय मुद्दों पर प्रमुखता से चर्चा होगी। बातचीत में प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह की प्रस्तावित बंगलादेश यात्रा की तैयारियों पर चर्चा होगी। अपने दो दिन के ढाका प्रवास के दौरान श्रीमति राव बंगलादेश की प्रधानमंत्री शेख हसीना, विदेश मंत्री दीपू मोनी और श्रीमति शेख हसीना के दो सलाहकारों से मुलाकात करेंगी।इस बीच तीस्ता और फेनी नदियों के पानी के बंटवारे के समझौते के मसौदे को अंतिम रूप देने के लिए बंगलादेश से तीन सदस्यों का प्रतिनिधिमंडल कल नई दिल्ली पहुंचा। इस मुद्दे पर आज बैठक होगी।

उत्तर प्रदेश में कांग्रेस की राज्य शाखा ने गौेतम बुद्ध नगर जिले के भट्टा पारसौल गांव में किसान पंचायत आयोजित करने की घोषणा की है। राज्य इकाई की नवगठित कार्यकारिणी की रविवार को लखनऊ में हुई बैठक में यह फैसला किया गया।राज्य सरकार पर किसानों के मुद्दो के प्रति संवेदनहीन होने का आरोप लगाते हुए पार्टी ने कहा है कि किसान पंचायत इसी महीने बुलाई जाएगी और इसमें पार्टी के राष्ट्रीय महासचिव राहुल गांधी भाग लेंगे।

बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार ने गोपालगंज की जेल में कैदियों द्वारा एक डॉक्टर की हत्या की सीबीआई से जांच के आदेश दिये हैं। फर्जी मेडिकल सर्टीफिकेट देने से मना करने के कारण कुछ कैदियों ने इस डॉक्टर की हत्या कर दी थी। इससे पहले गृह सचिव आमिर सुभानी ने मुख्यमंत्री को जांच की रिपोर्ट सौंपी।.......................

लेह में आज पंचायत चुनाव के दूसरे चरण का मतदान हो रहा है। दोपहर दो बजे तक वोट डाले जाएंगे। हमारे संवाददाता के अनुसार आज शाम तक नतीजे भी मिल जाएंगे।लेह में पंचायत चुनाव के दूसरे चरण के लिए आज वोट डाले जा रहे हैं। आज चार ब्लॉक डिस्टिक, पानामिक, न्यूमा और दुर्मुक में मतदान हो रहा है। इसको लेकर सुरक्षा के पुख्ता बंदोबश्त किये गए हैं। इस इलाके में पहले से दो तिहाई से ज्यादा सरपंच और पंच निर्विरोध चुन लिए गए हैं। दस साल बाद हो रहे इस चुनाव का पहला चरण दो जून को सम्पन्न हुआ था और साठ फिसदी से ज्यादा मतदान रिकॉर्ड किया गया था।

विश्व के नंबर एक टेनिस खिलाड़ी, राफेल नडाल ने रोजर फेडरर को हराकर फैंच ओपन चैम्पियनशिप का पुरुष सिंगल्स खिताब जीत लिया है।कल पैरिस में रफलनडाल ने रिकॉर्ड छठी बार फ्रैंच ओपन टेनिस टूर्नामेंट में अपनी बादशाहत कायम रखी। फाइनल में रडाल ने रॉजर फेडर्र को चार सेट तक उतार-चढ़ाव भरे मुकाबले में ७-५, ७-६, ५-७, ६-१ से पराजित किया। पहले दो सेट गवाने के बाद फेडर्र ने तीसरे सेट में वापसी की। लेकिन चौथा सेट एक तरफा रहा। लगातार दूसरा फ्रैंच ओपन जीत कर नडाल ने ब्योन वर्ग के रिकॉर्ड छह खिताब की बराबरी भी कर ली। वहीं फेडर्र फ्रैंच ओपन में कभी भी नडाल से जीत नहीं हासिल कर पाये हैं। नडाल का यह कुल १२वां ग्रेंडसलेम खिताब है।

The Centre will spend 46 thousand crore rupees to improve the quality of forests and forest cover in the country in the next 10 years. The government has said that it will launch a Green India Mission next year.
The mission has been already approved by the Prime Minister's Council on Climate Change and is one of eight missions under India's National Action Plan on Climate Change. Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day yesterday in New Delhi, the Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests, Mr Jairam Ramesh said that the mission envisages implementation of forestry programmes through gram sabha institutions.
The Green India Mission is just starting. Its business is unusual in that the responsibility for implementing the Green India Mission is not with the forest department, as it is been traditionally. The responsibility of the Green India Mission lies with community based institutions, with community organisations, with elected local bodies, women self-help groups, variety of institutions in which of course the forest department plays a very important, technical and managerial role.
Speaking to reporters later after releasing a report- forests in a green economy, Mr Ramesh said that the initiative will help increase the quantity and quality of 10 million hectares of forest area.
Mr Ramesh also informed that by January 2013, the government will be in a position to do real time monitoring of forests.

The Congress party has decided to launch a countrywide campaign against what it called the communal forces. The decision was taken at a meeting of Congress party office bearers presided over by Party President Sonia Gandhi. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Senior Congress leader Janardhan Diwedi said that political forces which were defeated in the last Parliamentary election are using fear and threat to regain lost ground. He added that the party has accepted their challenge and all state units will be asked to highlight the achievements of the government and expose the real designs of these forces behind the present campaign.

An absconding accused of the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts, Mujeeb Sheikh, was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh anti terrorist squad, ATS in Jabalpur yesterday. Police said, Mujeeb Sheikh is alleged to be a member of the banned outfit Indian Mujahideen, IM and SIMI.
Sheikh has been absconding since the serial blasts in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008, when 57 persons lost their lives and over 200 others were injured. He was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh ATS along with seven other IM and SIMI members yesterday.

An ISI agent, involved in a fake currency racket, was arrested in Meerut yesterday by a joint team of the Uttar Pradesh STF and district police. DIG Prem Prakash said, the ISI agent has been identified as Manjur Miya alias Manjur Alam alias Manjur Ansari. Manjur is a resident of Nepal's Parsa district.
During interrogation, Manjur revealed that he was working for ISI officer Mohammad Safi. Manjur used to receive fake currency notes from one Sajid Ansari in Nepal's Birganj area.

Mumbai received its first monsoon showers on Sunday, five days before schedule. The Southwest monsoon usually arrives in Mumbai on June 10, but its onset this time is the earliest in five years. According to Dr. R V Sharma, Deputy Director General of the India Meteorological Department, Western Region, a strong monsoon pulse in the Arabian Sea and air circulation over Mumbai are responsible for the early onset of the rainy season in the city. AIR correspondent reports that rainfall also occurred at most places over Konkan and at many places in Maharashtra including a few places over Marathwada.
While the city had been receiving heavy showers in the last three days, it was Sunday’s rains accompanied by loud thunder and lightning which marked the arrival of the monsoon in Mumbai. The rains brought the city some welcome respite from the heat, with maximum temperature dipping to 33 degrees Celsius in Colaba and Santacruz. Meanwhile, the weather has been pleasant in the city this morning with Colaba receiving 19.7mm of rainfall and Santacruz receiving 49.5 mm of rainfall in the last 9hours. According to the weather bureau prediction, in the next 24 hours, rainfall is likely to occur in spells in all areas of the city, while heavy rain can be expected in some parts. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao arrives in Dhaka today on a two-day visit to Bangladesh. Mrs Rao will lead the Indian delegation during the talks, while Bangladesh side will be led their Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes. The discussions will provide both the sides an opportunity to take stock of the progress of implementation of the decisions taken during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in January last year and also help in preparations for the proposed visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Bangladesh.

In Pakistan, 25 people were killed and 50 injured in two separate blasts in the northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province yesterday. Police said, militants targeted an army-run bakery and a bus stop in these blasts. In one of the incident, 18 people were killed and nearly 40 others injured when a blast ripped through the A-1 Bakery in Nowshera cantonment, 40 km from Peshawar. Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said, the blast, caused by a remote-controlled bomb, set off several gas cylinders and triggered a major fire. The bakery on Mall Road is run by the army and was crowded when the blast occurred at 8.30 pm.
In another attack, seven persons were killed and 10 injured when a bomb planted in a van went off at a bus stop at Mattani on the outskirts of Peshawar yesterday morning. The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for both the attacks.

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने दिल्ली के रामलीला मैदान से योग गुरू बाबा रामदेव और उनके समर्थकों को ज+बर्दस्ती हटाने के मामले पर संज्ञान लेते हुए इस घटना पर केन्द्र से जवाब मांगा है। न्यायमूर्ति बी.एस.चौहान और न्यायमूर्ति स्वतंत्र कुमार की अवकाश पीठ ने केन्द्रीय गृह सचिव, दिल्ली के मुख्य सचिव, दिल्ली प्रशासन और पुलिस आयुक्त को नोटिस जारी करके दो सप्ताह के अन्दर जवाब देने को कहा है। न्यायालय ने उनसे यह बताने को कहा है कि किन परिस्थितियों में लोगों को आधी रात को बल प्रयोग से वहां से हटाया गया। न्यायालय ने मामले की अगली सुनवाई के लिए जुलाई के दूसरे सप्ताह का समय तय किया है।

केन्द्रीय जल आयोग पानी के भंडारण की स्थिति के बारे मे कृषि विभाग और फसल की दृष्टि से मौसम पर नज+र रखने वाले समूह को साप्ताहिक सूचना उपलब्ध करा रहा है, ताकि देश में फसल के लिए समुचित नीति निर्धारित की जा सके। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार आयोग देश के ८१ महत्वपूर्ण जलाशयों में पानी को जमा करने की स्थिति पर भी निगरानी रखे हुए है, जिससे कि उपलब्ध जल से ज्यादा से ज्यादा फायदा मिल सके। विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि इन जलाशयों में से ३६ से काफी पनबिजली मिलती है, जिनमें से हरेक की क्षमता साठ मेगावॉट से अधिक है। आयोग को पता चला है कि सिंधु, नर्मदा, तापी, साबरमती, कच्छ क्षेत्र की नदियों, गोदावरी, कृष्णा, कावेरी और पड़ोस के दक्षिणी थाले की नदियों की जल भंडारण स्थिति पिछले दस वर्षो की औसत स्थिति से बेहतर है। इसके अलावा गंगा और महानदी थाले की जल भंडारण स्थिति औसत के आसपास है।

---न्यूनतम समर्थन मूल्य पर ४८ लाख ४० हजार मीट्रिक टन की खरीद के साथ मध्यप्रदेश ने गेंहू खरीदी में कई राज्यों को पीछे छोड़ दिया है। इस मामले में पंजाब और हरियाणा के बाद वो तीसरे स्थान पर है। राज्य सरकार ने इस साल समर्थन मूल्य पर ३५ लाख मीट्रिक टन गेंहू खरीदी का लक्ष्य रखा था, जिसे बाद में दो बार बढ़ाया गया। राज्य में १२७० रूपये प्रति क्विंटल के समर्थन मूल्य पर गेंहू खरीदी की गई।ं इसमें राज्य सरकार का प्रति क्विंटल सौ रूपये और केन्द्र सरकार का ५० रूपये प्रति क्विंटल का बोनस शामिल है। पहली बार गेंहू खरीदी की राशि सीधे किसानों के खाते में जमा की गई। शारिक नूर, आकाशवाणी समाचार, भोपाल।
बम्बई शेयर बाजार के शुरूआती कारोबार में आज सेन्सेक्स में ६९ अंक से अधिक की गिरावट आयी। विदेशी फंडों और छोटे निवेशकों की बिकवाली तथा विश्व के बाजारों में नरमी के रूख के कारण यह गिरावट आयी। अब से कुछ देर पहले सेन्सेक्स ३८ अंक की गिरावट के साथ १८ हजार ४१५ पर था।

--- पाकिस्तान के जिओ टीवी ने खबर दी है कि दक्षिण वजीरिस्तान के कबायली क्षेत्र में आज तड़के एक परिसर में अमरीकी ड्रोन मिसाइल के हमले में सात विदेशियों सहित १४ लोग मारे गये। स्थानीय सुरक्षा अधिकारियों ने बताया है कि यह हमला दक्षिण वजीरिस्तान के मुख्य शहर वाना के दस किलोमीटर उत्तर पश्चिम में सलाम रघज+ाई में हुआ। एक वरिष्ठ सुरक्षा अधिकारी ने कहा कि धार्मिक स्थल के नज+दीक एक परिसर पर दो मिसाइल दागे गये। यह स्थान ग्वाखवा क्षेत्र से लगभग दस किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है और समझा जाता है कि वहां तीन दिन पहले अलकायदा का वरिष्ठ कंमाडर इलियास कश्मीरी मारा गया था।
---- यमन में कई सप्ताह से चल रहे सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शनों के बाद राष्ट्रपति अली अब्दुल्ला सालेह के देश से जाने पर हजारों लोग खुशी मना रहे हैं। सऊदी अरब में ऑपरेशन के बाद सालेह की हालत ठीक हो रही है। यह जानकारी देते हुए सऊदी अरब के अधिकारी ने बताया है कि कल सालेह की छाती और गर्दन के दो ऑपरेशन किये गये जो सफल रहे। यमन की राजधानी साना में राष्ट्रपति निवास के परिसर में हुए एक हमले में सालेह घायल हो गये थे जिसके बाद शनिवार को एक सऊदी विमान से उन्हें सऊदी अरब ले जाया गया। यह स्पष्ट नहीं है कि सालेह यमन लौटेंगे या नहीं! लेकिन यमन के सूचना उपमंत्री अब्दुल ज+नादी का कहना है कि वे लौटकर आएंगे। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि सालेह का स्वास्थ्य ठीक है और हो सकता है कि वे पद छोड़ दे। लेकिन यह कार्रवाई संवैधानिक ढंग से होनी चाहिए।

न्यूजीलैंड के भूकंपग्रस्त शहर क्राइस्टचर्च शहर में आज फिर भूकंप आया जिसे रिक्टर पैमाने पर पांच मापा गया। अमरीकी भूगर्भ विभाग के अनुसार यह भूकंप स्थानीय समय के अनुसार सवेरे नौ बजकर नौ मिनट पर आया और इसका केन्द्र शहर के पश्चिम में २२ किलोमीटर की दूरी पर था। इससे मामूली सी क्षति हुई। न्यूजीलैंड के जी एन एस विज्ञान विभाग ने कहा है कि इस भूकंप से करीब एक घंटे पहले ही एक हल्का भूकंप आया था। क्राइस्टचर्च न्यूजीलैंड का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा शहर है जहां फरवरी में आये छह दशमलव तीन तीव्रता के भूकंप से भारी विनाश हुआ था और १८१ लोगों की मौत हो गई थी।
---- अमरीकी रक्षा मंत्री रॉबर्ट गेट्स ने कहा है कि अफगानिस्तान में सैनिक रणनीति में परिवर्तन का अभी समय नहीं आया है। अमरीकी रक्षा मंत्री ने कहा कि अफगानिस्तान में सुरक्षा की जिम्मेदारी अफगान सैनिकों के हवाले करने का यह अर्थ नहीं है कि विदेशी सैनिक तेजी से अफगानिस्तान से निकल रहे हैं।

उत्तरप्रदेश माध्यम शिक्षा बोर्ड ने आज १२वीं कक्षा का परीक्षा परिणाम घोषित कर दिया। परीक्षा में ८० दशमलव एक-चार प्रतिशत छात्र पास हुए। बाराबंकी के ज्ञान प्रकाश वर्मा ने सबसे अधिक ९४ प्रतिशत अंक प्राप्त किए, जबकि लखनऊ की अर्पिता पांडेय ९३ दशमलव दो-शून्य प्रतिशत अंक लेकर दूसरे स्थान पर रही।

तमिलनाडु की मुख्यमंत्री जयललिता ने प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह को पत्र लिखकर उनसे राज्य में बिजली की भारी कमी के मामले में हस्तक्षेप करने का अनुरोध किया है। सुश्री जयललिता ने कहा है कि कमी की वजह से बिजली बोर्ड लगभग १५०० सौ मेगावॉट बिजली की कटौती कर रहा है। इसके अलावा अक्सर अघोषित लोड शेडिंग भी की जा रही है। कूडनकुलम और नेवेली विद्युत परियोजनाओं में बिजली उत्पादन में देरी का जिक्र करते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने राज्य में मौजूदा केन्द्रीय विद्युत परियोजनाओं को पूरा करने में तेजी लाने का अनुरोध किया है। यह दोनों परियोजनाएं २००९ तक पूरी होकर चालू हो जानी थीं। सुश्री जयललिता ने इसी महीने से राज्य को एक हजार मेगावॉट अतिरिक्त बिजली तुरंत उपलब्ध कराये जाने की भी मांग की है।
---- कर्नाटक विधानसभा ने २०११-१२ के लिए ८७ हजार ७३७ करोड़ रूपये से अधिक का विनियोग विधेयक पास कर दिया है। मुख्यमंत्री ने विधानसभा में यह विधेयक पेश किया। उनके पास वित्त मंत्रालय भी है। विपक्ष ने दोनों सदनों के सत्र का बहिष्कार किया है। उसका कहना है कि दल-बदल विरोधी कानून के तहत अध्यक्ष ने १६ विधायकों को अयोग्य ठहराने का जो फैसला किया, उसके खिलाफ उच्चतम न्यायालय ने अपना निर्णय दिया है। इसलिए विपक्ष ने मांग की है कि अध्यक्ष और मुख्यमंत्री को इस्तीफा दे देना चाहिए। आज की बैठक स्थगित किए जाने से पहले विधानसभा ने पांच अन्य विधेयक भी पारित किये।
--- गुजरात के वडोदरा और भरूच जिलों में बारिश से आठ लोगों की मृत्यु हो गई। सरकारी सूत्रों के अनुसार कल देर शाम इन जिलों में भारी वर्षा और बिजली गिरने से वडोदरा शहर के कई हिस्सों में घंटों तक बिजली की आपूर्ति ठप्प हो गई। विभिन्न स्थानों पर होर्डिंग, बिज+ली के खम्भे और पेड़ उखड़ गए तथा मकान ढह गए। वडोदरा के निगम आयुक्त ने बताया कि कुल ७१ स्थानों से ऐसी घटनाओं की शिकायत मिली है।

Taking suo motu cognisance of forceful eviction of the yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his followers from the Ramlila grounds in New Delhi, the Supreme Court today sought the Centre's response on the incident. A vacation bench of justices B S Chauhan and Swatenter Kumar issued notices to the Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of Delhi, Delhi administration, and Delhi Police Commissioner asking them to respond within two weeks. The court asked them to reply as to what were the circumstances under which the people had to be dispersed at midnight by the use of force. The court posted the matter for hearing in the second week of July. However, the court declined to entertain a petition filed by advocate Ajay Aggarwal on the issue. The bench expressed its displeasure that before the matter came up for hearing before it, the entire contents of the petition were leaked to the media.

The government has launched an online grievance redressal portal for insurance policy holders, which would offer integrated grievance management system (IGMS). Announcing the launch in New Delhi, secretary, financial services, S K Sharma emphasised the need for putting in place a proper regulatory mechanism to protect the interest of policyholders. Insurance industry, he said, will derive long-term gains by investing in promotion of insurance literacy, adding that there are some key areas of concern such as simplification and rationalisation of insurance laws.
Integrated Grievance Management System IGMS is a comprehensive solution which not only has the ability to provide a centralized and online access to the policyholder but also complete access and control to Insurance Regulatory Development Authority IRDA for monitoring grievance disposal by insurance companies. IGMS also enables detailed analysis that would help identify issues of concern for the policyholder. IGMS will have the ability to classify different complaint types based on pre-defined rules. In Assam, all the 126 newly-elected legislators of the 13th State Legislative Assembly today took oath in the House. The Protem Speaker Dr. Bhumidhar Barman administered the oath to the new members in the Assembly. The leader of the House Tarun Gogoi was the first to take oath followed by other ministers and Legislators. Among those who took oath today included 78 MLAs from ruling Congress, 18 from All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), 12 Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), 10 Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), five BJP, one Trinamool Congress and two independents. The Assembly later elected Mr. Pranab Gogoi, a former Minister as the new Speaker of the Assembly unopposed. The State Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik will address the new Assembly tomorrow. The House is to elect a new Deputy Speaker on Wednesday before it adjourns sine-die.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. J. Jayalalithaa today wrote a letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh asking his intervention in the issue of severe power shortage in the State. In a letter addressed to him today, Ms. Jayalalithaa has said that due to the shortage the Electricity Board has been resorting to scheduled load shedding of about 1500 MW and frequent unscheduled load shedding. Referring to the delay of power generation in Koodangulam and Neyveli power projects which were supposed to be completed and commissioned in the 2009, the Chief Minister has requested for speeding up of the completion of the ongoing central power projects in the State. She also sought to immediately allocate additional power of 1000 MW from June this year.

A Bangalore-bound Go Air plane, with 171 passengers and crew on board, made an emergency landing at the IGI airport in New Delhi soon after it took off today. The pilot of the Go Air flight G8-201 asked for emergency landing after a smoke warning from the cargo compartment was on. An official spokesperson said, all the 165 passengers and six crew members onboard are safe.

In Goa, the statewide Bandh called by the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch today to protest against state government's decision to give financial grants to English medium primary schools, paralysed normal life. Shops, educational institutions and industrial establishments remained closed due to bandh. Private buses remained off the road. However, the state owned Kadamba transport corporation pressed extra buses for the convenience of the commuters. Government and private offices had sparse attendance as most of the buses could not ply on regular routes. Incidents of stone pelting on KTC buses in Bicholim and Pernem Taluka were reported. Our correspondent reports, the schools re opened today for the new academic year but had a negligible attendance.

In Pakistan, Geo TV reports said, fourteen persons, including seven foreigners, were killed in a US drone missile strike targeting a compound in the tribal region of South Waziristan today. Local security officials said the strike occurred in Shalam Raghzai, 10 kilometres northwest of Wana, the main town in South Waziristan in the early hours. A senior security official in the area said the drone targeting a compound near a religious seminary fired two missiles. The site of the latest attack was around 10 kilometres south of the Ghwakhwa area where a senior Al Qaeda commander Ilyas Kashmiri was likely to have been killed three days ago.

In Yemen, thousands of people have been celebrating the departure of President Ali Abdullah Saleh after weeks of anti-government protests. Saudi officials said, Ali Abdullah Saleh is recovering after surgery in Saudi Arabia to remove shrapnel from his chest. The officials said Saleh underwent two successful operations yesterday on his chest and neck. He was flown to the country on a Saudi medical flight on Saturday, after being wounded in an attack on his presidential compound in Sanaa. It remains unclear whether Mr Saleh will return to Yemen. Yemen's Deputy Information Minister, Abdu al-Janadi, said Mr Saleh would be returning. He said Saleh is in good health, and he may give up authority but it has to be in a constitutional way.

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao arrive in Dhaka today on a two day visit to Bangladesh. India and Bangladesh will hold Foreign Secretary level talks tomorrow which will be focused on various aspects of the bilateral relations and regional issues. Mrs Rao will lead the Indian delegation during the talks, while Bangladesh side will be led their Foreign Secretary Mohammed Mijarul Quayes. The discussions will provide both sides an opportunity to take stock of the progress of implementation of the decisions taken during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in January last year and also help in preparations for the proposed visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Bangladesh. During her two day stay in Dhaka, Mrs Rao will also call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni and two Advisers to Bangladesh Prime Minister.
Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao’s visit to Dhaka will provide India and Bangladesh an opportunity to review the progress made on various issues related to the bilateral relationship agreed to in the joint statement issued during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India last year. Both sides have reached an understanding on a framework agreement on sharing arrangements of dry season water flows of Teesta and Feni rivers and are presently engaged in the process of finalizing the draft agreement. The Ahmadiyah practitioners had fled from Pakistan, where the sect is persecuted, and all but two have been recognized as refugees by the United Nations. Stock markets in Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia were down by between 0.4 percent and 1.2 percent, today, following disappointing US economic data.

Back home, in Madhya Pradesh, wheat procurement on minimum support price has broken all previous records this year. Our Bhopal correspondent reports that government agencies have procured more than 48 lakh metric ton of wheat, surpassing last year’s record of 35 lakh metric tons.
With procuring 48 lac 40 thousand metric ton wheat on minimum support price, Madhya Pradesh has now left many states behind in wheat procurement. It has grabbed third place in the country, after Punjab and Haryana. The state government had set a target of 35 lac metric ton wheat purchase on minimum support price this year, which was revised twice later. Wheat has been purchased in the state on the minimum support price of 1270 rupees per quintal. It included 100 rupees per quintal bonus from the state government and 50 rupees per quintal bonus from the centre for the first time. The Central Water Commission is providing weekly information about the storage position to the Department of Agriculture and Crop Weather Watch Group for evolving suitable crop strategies in the country. According to an official release, the Commission is also monitoring storage position of 81 important reservoirs spread all over the country to derive the best possible benefits from the available water. The release stated that 36 of these reservoirs have significant hydropower benefits with installed capacities of more than 60 Mega watts each. According to the Commission’s findings the storage position in Indus, Narmada, Tapi, Sabarmati, Rivers of Kutch, Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and neighboring Rivers of south basins is better than average of previous 10 years. And the storage in Ganga and Mahanadi basin is close to the average.

The Central government has released over two hundred and sixty crore rupees for the current financial year under national rural water programme for Jammu & Kashmir. The amount is aimed to provide clean drinking water to every household in rural and farflung areas of the state.
The amount will provide as a boon for supplying clean drinking water to the farflung villages in the state which are still deprived of the facility. As estimated about 60 per cent of the village population has either insufficient clean drinking water facilities or do not have at all. Mumbai received its first monsoon showers on Sunday, five days before schedule. The Southwest monsoon usually arrives in Mumbai on June 10, but its onset this time is the earliest in five years. According to Dr. R V Sharma, Deputy Director General of the India Meteorological Department, Western Region, a strong monsoon pulse in the Arabian Sea and air circulation over Mumbai are responsible for the early onset of the rainy season in the city. Our correspondent reports that rainfall also occurred at most places over Konkan and at many places in Maharashtra including a few places over Marathwada. Conditions are also favourable for further advance of monsoon into south Gujarat, some more parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada and remaining parts of Karnataka and some parts of the northeastern states during the next 2 to 3 days. In Uttarakhand, rain accompanied by hailstorm and high speed wind affected normal life at some places last evening. However, the weather became pleasant in Dehradun, Haridwar and some other parts of the hill state this morning.
In North India, the mercury breached the 40 degrees Celsius mark at several places with people in the national capital sweltering under oppressive heat. In Delhi, the mercury climbed to 42.2 deg celcius, two notches above normal. Met officials said similar condition will prevail today.

In Gujarat, lightning, and pre-monsoon showers claimed eight lives in the districts of Vadodara and Bharuch since last evening. A young boy from Hamirpura village, died when a wall of his house collapsed. Parts of Vadodara city plunged into darkness for a couple of hours due to tree-falling incidents last evening. Manoj Kumar Das, Vadodara Municipal Commissioner said, a total of 71 such incidents were reported. In some parts, advertisement hoardings collapsed on transmission lines, leading to disruption of power supply.

Announcing the result the U.P Board Chairperson said that Girls once again outshone the boys in their performance Girls success ratio is twenty percent higher than boys. 90.76 percent girls cleared the board exam while only 70.43 percent boys passed in the 12th board exams. About twenty lakh students appeared in this year's UP Board Intermediate exam and 15 lakh 90 thousand 124 students were declared successful.

A shallow 5-magnitude aftershock rocked the quake-hit New Zealand city of Christchurch today, shaking items off shelves. The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at 9:09 am local time was centred 22 kilometres west of the city at a depth of just three kilometers. New Zealand's GNS Science said the quake caused only minor damage. GNS Science said Christchurch was also hit by another smaller aftershock, measuring 3.7, about an hour before the 5.0 tremor. New Zealand's second largest city was devastated by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake in February which claimed 181 lives.

सरकार ने संसद के मॉनसून सत्र में भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ एक मजबूत लोकपाल विधेयक पेश करने की प्रतिबद्धता दोहराई है। नई दिल्ली में आज मीडिया से मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने कहा कि सरकार ने इस बारे में भारत के लोगों को वचन दिया है। उन्होंने कहा कि विधेयक का मसौदा 30 जून तक तैयार हो जाएगा। उन्होंने प्रबुद्ध समाज के सदस्यों से मसौदा समिति में फिर से शामिल होने का आग्रह किया।

----सी.बी.आई. ने टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम आबंटन घोटाले के सिलसिले में एयरसेल के पूर्व मालिक सी.शिवशंकरन का बयान आज दर्ज किया। सरकारी सूत्रों के हवाले से हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि शिवशंकरन से नई दिल्ली में सी.बी.आई. द्वारा पूछताछ की गई। शिवशंकरन, दूरसंचार कंपनी एयरसेल के मालिक थे और दूरसंचार विभाग द्वारा मोबाइल नेटवर्क लाइसेंसों के लिए उनके आवेदन बार-बार नामंजूर कर दिए गए थे। बाद में उन्होंने अपनी कंपनी मैक्सिस को बेच दी, जिसके केंद्रीय कपड़ा मंत्री दयानिधि मारन के भाई कलानिधि मारन की कंपनी सन टी.वी. के साथ कारोबारी संबंध हैं। स्वामित्व बदलने के बाद इस कंपनी को सात और सर्किलों के लिए लाइसेंस दिए गए थे।
----भारत और जापान ने सात समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं, जिनके तहत जापान, बंगलौर मैट्रो रेल परियोजना सहित अन्य परियोजनाओं के लिए आठ हजार छह सौ बत्तीस करोड़ रुपये के ऋण उपलब्ध कराएगा। एक सरकारी विज्ञप्ति में वित्तमंत्रालय ने कहा है कि ये ऋण जापान अंतरराष्ट्रीय सहयोग एजेंसी के आधिकारिक विकास सहायता कार्यक्रम के तहत दिए जाएंगे। इस बारे में नई दिल्ली में आर्थिक मामला विभाग में संयुक्त सचिव प्रबोध सक्सेना और भारत में जापान के राजदूत आकीताका साइकी ने इन समझौतों पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

The government has formally approved national intelligence grid the National Intelligence Grid, NATGRID project and asked the Home Ministry to proceed accordingly. The project will facilitate robust information sharing by security agencies and law enforcement agencies to combat terror threat at home and abroad. The aim of the NATGRID is to ensure a readily available and real time information sharing platform between intelligence, law enforcement and other agencies. Our correspondent reports that the NATGRID is planning to link 21 categories of databases maintained by different public and private agencies for ready access by the country’s intelligence agencies, as information gathering and its timely distribution is an essential part of Crisis Management Strategies of any nation. On the direction of the Cabinet Committee on Security, CCS, a detailed briefing and presentation about the NATGRID project along with safeguards and oversight mechanisms was given by Home Ministry to the members of the CCS in New Delhi today. The CCS also cleared the 18000 crore rupees mega deal to purchase ten C-17 heavy lift military aircraft from the US. This is the biggest-ever defence deal to be entered between the two countries. Defence Ministry officials said the CCS meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh cleared the proposal for purchase of the planes from the US through the Foreign Military Sales route. Under the deal, the US defence major Boeing, the manufacturer of the aircraft, will have to invest 30 per cent of the contract amount for setting up defence facilities in India.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that there was no option available with the government other than evicting Baba Ramdev from Ramleela Ground. Talking to reporters on the sideline of an award function in New Delhi this evening, Dr. Singh said that the government is very serious on the issues of black money and corruption, but there is no magic wand available with him to correct everything immediately. On the Lok Pal Bill, the Prime Minister said that everything is before the Drafting Committee and therefore it would not be proper for him to comment on it. In reply to a query on former IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran's alleged involvement in 2G scam, Dr. Singh said that the matter is before the law enforcement agency and appropriate action will be taken.

The National Human Rights Commission today issued notices to Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of NCT and Delhi Police Commissioner on the Police action at the gathering in Ramlila Maidan, Delhi. According to an official release, the commission has asked them to file their reply within two weeks. Earlier, taking suo motu cognisance of forceful eviction of the yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his followers from the Ramlila grounds in New Delhi, the Supreme Court sought the Centre's response on the incident. A vacation bench of justices B S Chauhan and Swatenter Kumar issued notices to the Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of Delhi, Delhi administration, and Delhi Police Commissioner asking them to respond within two weeks. The court asked them to reply as to what were the circumstances under which the people had to be dispersed at midnight by the use of force.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, today recorded a statement of the former Aircel owner C Sivasankaran in connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam. Official sources said, Mr. Sivasankaran was grilled by CBI in New Delhi. He owned Aircel-a telecom company and his requests for mobile network licences were repeatedly rejected by the department of telecommunications. Mr. Sivasankaran later sold his company to Maxis, a company which has business links with Sun TV owned by Kalanidhi Maran, brother of Union Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran. The company was awarded lincences for seven more circles after the change in ownership.

The government today reiterated that it will present a strong Lokpal Bill in the monsoon session of Parliament to fight the malaise of corruption. Briefing the media in New Delhi, Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal said that government has made a commitment to the people of India in this regard. He said the draft bill will be ready by 30th of June and appealed to the members of the civil society to join the meeting of drafting committee, which they have boycotted today.
Mr. Sibal said the government is working seriously on the bill and even today in the absence of civil society members, it has drafted and finalised several sections of the bill. Taking strong exception to the comments made by Anna Hazare that the government representatives are liars and conspirators, Mr. Sibal said, they reject the observations in the strongest possible term. He said, this is not acceptable and expressed the hope that in future this kind of discourse will not be conducted in the public arena. Mr. Sibal also informed that suggestions from the Chief Ministers and political parties have come on the draft bill. The next meeting will be held on 15th of this month as the civil society members have asked for the rescheduling it due to some preoccupations of Anna Hazare on 10th of June.

A Delhi court today denied bail to the sacked Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi. Kalmadi is under arrest for his alleged role in awarding a Games contract to a Swiss firm at an exorbitant rate. Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh dismissed Kalmadi's bail plea along with that of Games organising panel's Joint Director-General (Sports) A S V Prasad, saying that the offences are of serious nature and they might try to influence witnesses, if enlarged on bail at this juncture. The court also said that Prasad was close to Kalmadi and had a key role in awarding the contract which caused huge loss to the exchequer. Kalmadi was arrested along with Prasad and three others on April 25 for awarding the contract for installing the Time-Scoring-Result system to a Swiss firm, Swiss Times Omega, at an exorbitant cost of 141 crore rupees, causing a loss of over 95 crore rupees to the public exchequer.

In one of the biggest seizures,the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials today seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of equivalent face value of over 1.5 crore rupees from two Turkish nationals. DRI sources said,acting on a tip off that a huge cache of FICN is arriving in the capital from Bangladesh, a special team of DRI officials zeroed in on a foreign-registered luxury Mercedes Benz Bus along with the two foreigners. Bangladesh has developed as a major hub for supplying fake Indian currency.After over two days of intensive search of the bus, the DRI officers were able to locate the fake currency in denomination of 500 rupes concealed in a cavity in the bus. Preliminary investigations revealed that the two foreign nationals had travelled by bus from Turkey to India via Iran
and Pakistan. Sources said the trio had made their first trip to India from Pakistan in April. After that, they travelled to Bangladesh and were on their way back when they were arrested by DRI officials in a special operation code named 'Brass-tacks'.

In Iraq, 12 people have been killed and 20 others injured in a car blast that targeted the Presidential Palaces compound in Tikrit city today. Voice of Iraq news agency quoting Salah al-Din police command sources has reported that the attack carried out by a suicide bomber, who blew up a booby-trapped car against the Presidential Palaces compound in central Tikrit. Our West Asia correspondent reports that the attack took place during celebrations to hand over the mission of protecting the Presidential Palaces compound to the Iraqi troops.
Today’s attack in Tikrit was the second attack of its type over the past 4 days. On earlier attack, a suicide bomber blew himself up in the compound’s al-Farouq Mosque last Friday, killing 19 persons and wounding 72 others, followed by another suicide attack on Tikrit’s Teaching hospital. Violence in Iraq continues intermittently despite the increased security measures in the country. India and Japan have signed seven agreements under which the East Asian economic giant will provide loans worth 8,632 crore rupees for the projects, including the Bangalore Metro Rail Project. The Finance Ministry in an official release said that the loans are to be provided under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) programme of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It said that the Notes worth 8,632 crore rupees were exchanged today between Japan and India. The agreements in this regard were signed in New Delhi by Department of Economic Affairs Joint Secretary Prabodh Saxena and Ambassador of Japan to India Akitaka Saiki.
