वैश्विक चुनौतियों से निपटने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र नेतृत्व की भूमिका की जोरदार वकालत करते हुए भारत ने कहा है कि वह इस प्रयास में अपना योगदान देने को तैयार है। न्यूयॉर्क में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा को संबोधित करते हुए डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि राष्ट्रों के सामने उत्पन्न संकट टकराव की बजाय सहयोग से निपटा जा सकता है। उन्होंने संयुक्त राष्ट्र को मजबूत और अधिक प्रभावी बनाने की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि इसके लिए जरूरी है कि सामयिक वास्तविकताओं के अनुरूप सुधार किए जायें और निर्णय लेने वाली सुरक्षा परिषद का विस्तार किया जाए।संयुक्त राष्ट्र और महासभा के मुख्य अंगों तथा सुरक्षा परिषद में सुधार किया जाना चाहिए। अगर समकालीन वास्तविकताओं को प्रतिबिंबित करना है तो सुरक्षा परिषद में सुधार और विस्तार की जरूरत है। ऐसे कार्यों से सुरक्षा परिषद की विश्वसनियता बढ़ेगी और वैश्विक चुनौतियों का प्रभावी ढंग से मुकाबला किया जा सकेगा।
प्रधानमंत्री ने २० मिनट के भाषण में विश्व अर्थव्यस्था में मंदी, आतंकवाद पश्चिम एशिया और उत्तर अफ्रीका में राजनीतिक उथल-पुथल समेत कई मुद्दों पर विस्तार पूर्वक चर्चा की। इसके अलावा उन्होंने संयुक्त राष्ट्र में फलीस्तीन की पूर्ण सदस्यता की भी चर्चा की। आर्थिक मंदी की चर्चा करते हुए डॉ सिंह ने कहा कि कई मायनों में यह संकट गहराया है।
कई दृष्टियों से यह आर्थिक संकट और गहरा गया है। विश्व को वित्तीय सहायता प्रदान करने वाले देश अमरीका, यूरोप और जापान खुद आर्थिक मंदी झेल रहे हैं। इन देशों में आर्थिक मंदी से विश्व के वित्तीय और पूंजीगत बाजारों का विश्वास हिल रहा है। इन बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्थाओं में आर्थिक मंदी का विकासशील देशों पर प्रतिकूल असर पड़ेगा जिन्हें आर्थिक मंदी के अलावा मुद्रास्फीति के दबावों का भी सामना करना पड़ता है।
प्रधानमंत्री ने आतंकवाद की समाप्ति के लिए सभी मोर्चों पर अथक संघर्ष करने का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने जोर देकर कहा कि आतंकवादी ग्रुपों या आतंकवाद के ढांचे से निपटने के लिए चुनिंदा दृष्टिकोण नहीं अपनाना चाहिए।
उन्होंने सचेत किया कि शांति और सुरक्षा के लिए नई चुनौतियां सामने आई है। उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसे समय जब विश्व को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय व्यापार की जरूरत है हिंद महासागर के समुद्री रास्तों पर डकैतियों से घेराबंदी जैसी स्थिति बनी हुई है।
ऐसे समय जब दुनिया को और ज्यादा अंतर्राष्ट्रीय व्यापार की जरूरत है हिंद महासागर में बहुत से सम्पर्क रास्तों का घेराव कर लिया गया है। समुद्री लुटेरे बिना किसी खौफ के लुटपाट की वारदातें ऐसे स्थानों में कर रहे हैं जहां कोई अंतर्राष्ट्रीय जवाबदेही नहीं है।
प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि भारत अफगानिस्तान के बेहतर भविष्य के लिए पुनः निर्माण में अपनी मदद देगा। अफ्रीका का जिक्र करते हुए डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने इस क्षेत्र के लोगों को सशक्त बनाने और उनके लिए प्रौद्योगिकी, शिक्षा और कौशल विकास के अवसर उपलब्ध कराने पर जोर दिया।
परमाणु सुरक्षा पर विश्व का ध्यान आकर्षित करने में संयुक्त राष्ट्र की सराहना करते हुए डॉ सिंह ने कहा कि परमाणु ऊर्जा के इस्तेमाल की भारतीय योजना परमाणु ऊर्जा की सुरक्षा के अनुरूप है।
राजनीतिक विवाद में पश्चिमी देशों द्वारा शक्ति के इस्तेमाल का जिक्र करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि यह विचार खतरनाक है कि बाहर से समाधान थोपें जाएं।
हमारे संवाददाता का कहना है प्रधानमंत्री ने आर्थिक क्षेत्र में भारत के प्रयासों का भी जिक्र किया और भारत का मॉडल अपनाए जाने पर जोर दिया। प्रधानमंत्री के भाषण का स्वागत करते हुए सदस्यों ने बार बार मेजें थपथपाई।

ब्रिटेन ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद में भारत की स्थाई सदस्यता के प्रयास का समर्थन किया है। विदेश मंत्री एस एम कृष्णा और ब्रिटेन के विदेश मंत्री विलियम हेग के बीच न्यूयॉर्क में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा के अवसर पर एक बैठक में यह समर्थन व्यक्त किया गया। दोनों देशों ने आपसी संबंधों पर भी विचार-विमर्श किया और लीबिया, सीरिया, तथा संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद में सुधारों को लेकर विचारों का आदान प्रदान-किया। विदेश सचिव रंजन मथाई ने बताया कि राष्ट्रमंडल राष्ट्राध्यक्षों की अक्टूबर में ऑस्ट्रेलिया के पर्थ में होने वाली बैठक के बारे में भी बातचीत हुई।-
जी-२० देशों के एजेंडे में विकास का मुद्दा प्रमुख बना रहेगा। वाशिंगटन में समूह के देशों के वित्त मंत्रियों की बैठक में इस बात पर फिर सहमति व्यक्त की गई कि विकास और वैश्विक आर्थिक मुद्दों को अब और अलग- थलग नहीं रखा जा सकता। अमरीका, चीन और भारत सहित विभिन्न देशों के वित्त मंत्रियों द्वारा जारी संयुक्त वक्तव्य में कहा गया है कि जी-२० समूह असमानता को कम करने के लिए मजबूत, संतुलित और सतत विकास को बढ़ावा देने के लिए काम करेगा।-
प्रधानमंत्री डॉ. मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा है कि उन्हें केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल के सभी मंत्रियों पर पूरा भरोसा है। न्यूयॉर्क में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में उन्होंने कहा कि विपक्ष द्वारा गृहमंत्री पी चिदम्बरम के इस्तीफे की मांग कोई नई बात नहीं है। २-जी स्पैक्ट्रम आबंटन मामले में वित्त मंत्रालय द्वारा प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय को लिखे एक नोट के बाद विपक्ष, चिदम्बरम के इस्तीफे की मांग कर रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि वे वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी से आज न्यूयॉर्क में मुलाकात करेंगे जो उन्हें आर्थिक मुद्दों और वाशिंगटन में उनकी बैठकों के परिणामों के बारे में जानकारी देंगे।-

आंध्र प्रदेश में तेलंगाना क्षेत्र में रेल रोको आंदोलन के दूसरे दिन आज भी परिवहन व्यवस्था बाधित है। अलग तेलंगाना राज्य की मांग को लेकर तेलंगाना संयुक्त कार्यवाही समिति द्वारा ४८ घंटे के रेल रोको आंदोलन के आह्वान के बाद इस क्षेत्र में रेलसेवा कल से बुरी तरह प्रभावित हुई है। कई रेलगाड़ियों के न चलने से यात्रियों को भारी परेशानी हो रही है।रेल रोको आंदोलन के वजह से आज दूसरे दिन भी आंध्र प्रदेश के तेलंगाना क्षेत्र में रेल सेवाएं बुरी तरह प्रभावित हुई है। पिछले कुछ दिनों से चल रहा रोड ट्रांसपोर्ट कॉपरेशन के कर्मचारियों के आंदोलन जारी होने की वजह से पुरी क्षेत्र में सार्वजनिक परिवहन बंद पड़ा है। रेल आंदोलन की वजह से सैकड़ों यात्रियों राज्य के अन्य प्रांतों में भी फंसे हुए हैं। दक्षिण मध्य रेल अधिकारियों ने आज दूसरे दिन भी कई रेलगाड़ियों को रद्द किये हैं। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए हैदराबाद से लक्ष्मी।

India has strongly advocated for reassuming leadership role by the United Nations to meet global challenges. In his address to the UN General Assembly in New York, the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh stressed the need for making the UN stronger and more effective by strengthening the UN General Assembly and through reforms and expansion of the decision making Security Council to reflect contemporary reality.
The United Nation and its principle organs the General Assembly and the security Council must be revitalize and reform. The reform and expansion of the security council are essential if it is to reflect contemporary realties. Such an out come will enhance the council credibility and effectiveness in dealing with the global challenges.
In his 20 minute address, the Prime Minister dwelt at length on a range of issues including the slow down in the world economy, terrorism, social and political upheaval in West Asia and North Africa besides the Palestinian bid to get full membership in the United Nations. Devoting substantial part of his speech on the economic slow down, Dr Singh said the recovery which was visible after 2008 crisis is yet to show results.
We should not allowed the global economy slow down to become it triggered for building walls around ourselves through recourse to protactinium are aerating barriers to movement of people services and capital. Effective ways and means must be deployed to promote effective co-ordination of macro economy policy of major economies. The reform of governance system of international financial institution are to be perused with speed and efficiency.
On the use of force by western powers to engage with political conflicts, the Prime Minister said the idea that preions have to be imposed from outside is fraught with danger. On terrorism, the Prime Minister called for unrelenting fight against it on all fronts. He asserted that there cannot be selective approaches in dealing with terrorist groups or the infrastructure of terrorism.

Cautioning that new threats have emerged to peace and security, the Prime Minister said acts of piracy are being carried out with impunity from lands that are beyond the writ of any functioning state or international accountability. He said at a time when the world needs more international commerce, the sea lanes of communication across the Indian Ocean are under siege. On Afghanistan, the Prime Minister said India will play its part in helping the people of Afghanistan to build a better future.
Talking about Africa, Dr Manmohan Singh stressed the need to empower and open the doors of human advances in technology, education and skill development to the people in the region. Our correspondent reports that Dr. Singh's speech was hailed by the members present in the assembly by thumping of desks.
With India’s image transforming to that of an emerging economy, a confident Dr. Manmohan Singh dwelt at length on the issues hampering growth across the world. As many countries continue to reel under economic crisis, the Prime Minister showcased the Indian model of development. Seeking to a give new direction to globalization, the Prime Minister advised caution stating that this process may also have many pitfalls. He made a strong case for including India in the reformed UN Security council. He reflected the opinion of developing countries that the big brother attitude of the rich club is fraught with danger. The message was loud and clear that all that solutions have to be found through co-operative approach and not through confrontation.

Britain backed India's bid to get permanent membership of the UN Security Council. The support came at a meeting between External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and his British counterpart William Hague who met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The two Ministers also discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and exchanged notes on Libya, Syria and reform of the UNSC. Briefing reporters foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said the two leaders also talked about the upcoming meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) in Perth in Australia in October.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Rail Roko agitation continue to affect the transport services in the Telangana region on the second day today. Our correspondent reports that commuters face hardship as trains that pass through the region remained off the tracks.
Hundreds of long distance rail passengers unaware of the agitation have been stranded ate different places of the state where trains were partly terminated or cancelled as the South central Railways has also cancelled a number of trains on the second day of the agitation today. In Odisha, the flood situation remains alarming in most of the northern and coastal areas. Major rivers like Baitarani, Brahmani and Subarnarekha are flowing above the danger level and rising. Five teams of National Disaster Response Force, NDRF, comprising 155 personnel have been deployed for rescue and relief operations. The relief teams have already started evacuating the marooned people to safer places.
Thousands of people are marooned. The situation in Jajpur, Kendrapada and Bhadrak districts, which were hit by the first-phase flood in the Mahanadi river system only a few days ago has worsened.

In Sikkim, six areas of the worst earthquake hit North district Mangan still remain cut off. Fresh landslides yesterday rendered one more area isolated from the District headquarters. Our correspondent reports that essential commodities are being airdropped by the army helicopters in these areas.
Adding to the woes of the relief and rescue personnel already finding it hard to reach the people because of heavy rains and a dense fog, fresh landslides have made their work even more difficult. . After Sakyong, Pentong, Bay, Saffo, Lachung and Chungthang, it was the Dzongu area which was blocked by landslides on the Mangan-Sankalang road yesterday. The five member team sent by the State government to assesses the loss and damages in Lachen , Lachung and Upper Dzongu has not been able to reach there.On the other hand, the State Power Minister, Mr. Sonam Gyatso Lepcha has asserted that there is an abundance of essential commodities which are being sent to all the affected areas of the North District. The NDRF teams have started a health camp at Mangan for immediate help to the persons, reaching the District headquarters from the affected areas. India and Bangladesh will begin Director General, Border Security Force level talks in Dhaka today. The Indian delegation will be led by Director General, BSF Raman Srivastava while the Bangladesh delegation by Major General Border Guards Anwar Hussain. More from our correspondent :
The six day bi-annual Director General level conference between the Border Security force and Border Guards Bangladesh is the first meeting being held after the two sides signed a co-ordinated border management plan in July this year. The meeting will review the progress made on the implementation of the plan which aims to tackle border crimes related to insurgency, terrorism and militancy. सातवें क्षेत्रीय भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक सम्मेलन में आतंकवादियों को पैसा भेजने की समस्या से निपटने के लिए सूचनाओं के आदान-प्रदान पर प्रमुखता से चर्चा की जाएगी। भारत, एशियाई विकास बैंक और आर्थिक सहयोग तथा विकास संगठन की पहल पर यह सम्मेलन बुधवार को नई दिल्ली में हो रहा है। प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय में राज्यमंत्री वी. नारायणसामी ने आकाशवाणी के समाचार सेवा प्रभाग को एक विशेष भेंट में बताया कि मनी लाँड्रिग के जरिए पैसा मिलने के कारण ही हिजबुल मुजाहिदीन और लश्करे तैयबा जैसे आतंकवादी गिरोह भारत में आतंकी हमले कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि कुछ देश भी भारत को अस्थिर करने के उद्देश्य से आतंकी गतिविधियों के लिए पैसा दे रहे हैं।

रक्षा मंत्री ए० के० एंटनी ने भारतीय वायुसेना को निर्देश दिया है कि वह ओड़ीशा के बाढ़ग्रस्त इलाकों में राहत और बचाव कार्यों के लिए और हैलीकॉप्टर उपलब्ध कराएं। सात एम आई-१७, नौसेना का एक सी-किंग और एक चीता विमान तैनात किए गए हैं। दो एम आई-१७ और दो चेतक हैलीकॉप्टरों ने आज राहत सामग्री सप्लाई की। खराब मौसम के कारण गोरखपुर, रायपुर और जगदलपुर से पांच हैलीकॉप्टर आज उड़ान नहीं भर सके। राहत और बचाव कार्य कल भी जारी रहेंगे।--------
केंद्र सरकार, ओड़ीशा के बाढ़ग्रस्त छह जिलों में राहत और बचाव कार्यों पर पूरी नजर रखे हुए है। वह, आवश्यक सहायता उपलब्ध कराने के लिए राज्य सरकार से भी सम्पर्क बनाए हुए है। गृह मंत्रालय की जारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार राष्ट्रीय आपदा कार्रवाई बल के दस दल, राहत और बचाव कार्यों में लगाए गए हैं, इनमें तीन सौ से अधिक कर्मी और साठ नौकाएं शामिल हैं।

छत्तीसगढ़ के नारायणपुर जिले में हथियार बंद नक्सलियों ने आज एक सरपंच की हत्या कर दी। सूत्रों के अनुसार पुलिस मुखबिर होने के संदेह में नक्सलियों ने उन्हें छोटेडूंगर गांव के पास गोली मार दी।--------

नेपाल में आज सवेरे काठमाण्डु में हुई विमान दुर्घटना की जांच के लिए तीन सदस्यों की समिति बना दी गई है। नेपाल नागरिक उड्डयन प्राधिकरण के पूर्व महानिदेशक राजेश राज डाली इस समिति के अध्यक्ष होंगे। दुर्घटना में १० भारतीयों सहित १९ लोगों की मौत हो गई। अट्ठारह व्यक्ति मौके पर ही मारे गए, एक व्यक्ति ने अस्पताल में दम तोड़ दिया। इस विमान में चालक दल के तीन सदस्य और सोलह यात्री थे।

भारतीय टेलीकॉम नियामक प्राधिकरण - ट्राई ने कहा है कि सभी उपभोक्ताओं के लिये त्यौहारों को छोड़कर बाकी किसी भी मौके पर प्रतिदिन प्रति सिम के लिये सौ एस एम एस की सीमा बदलने की उसकी कोई योजना नहीं है। ट्राई के वरिष्ठ सूत्रों ने बताया है कि अवांछित फोन कॉल और एस एम एस पर लगाम लगाने के लिये इस सिफारिश को सभी उपभोक्ताओं पर लागू किया जाएगा। ट्राई का यह स्पष्टीकरण टेलीकॉम आपरेटरों द्वारा नियामक प्राधिकरण से उनकी सिफारिशों पर पुनर्विचार की अपील के कुछ दिन बाद आया है। इस महीने की २७ तारीख से यह सिफारिशें लागू होंगी।

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is leaving for home tomorrow after his successful visit to United States. Dr. Singh who reached New York on 22nd of this month held wide ranging discussions with global leaders on the common challenges facing the world. He held bilateral meetings with the leaders of Sri Lanka, Iran, Japan, Nepal, and South Sudan and discussed issues of mutual concern and the international situation. In his discussions with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadnejad he accepted his invitation to visit Tehran.
In his address to the UNGA, Dr. Singh strongly advocated revival of leadership role by the United Nations to meet global challenges adding that India is ready to play its own role. Dr. Singh stressed the need for making the UN stronger and effective by strengthening the UN General Assembly.
The United Nations and its principle organs the General Assembly and the Security Council must be revitalized and reformed. The reform and expansion of the security council are essential if it is to reflect contemporary realties. Such an out come will enhance the council's credibility and effectiveness in dealing with global challenges.
Dr. Singh dwelt at length on a range of issues including the slow down in the world economy, terrorism, social and political upheaval in West Asia and North Africa besides the Palestinian bid to get full membership in the United Nations. The Prime Minister called for unrelenting fight against terrorism on all fronts. He asserted that there cannot be selective approaches in dealing with terror infrastructure. On the side lines of the UNGA many other important meetings took place. The important meetings include G-4, IBSA and external Affairs Minister S M Krishna’s meeting with his British counterpart.

Britain has backed India's bid to get permanent membership of the UN Security Council. The support came at a meeting between External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and his British counterpart William Hague who met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The two Ministers also discussed bilateral relations and international issues. Briefing reporters foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said the two leaders also talked about the upcoming meeting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) in Perth in Australia in October.

The Finance Minister, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee is meeting the Pirme Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh in New York now. This is the first meeting between Mr. Mukherjee and Dr. Singh after a Finance Ministry note on 2G spectrum allocation surfaced in the media. Highly placed sources said that the Prime Minister will try to end the perception of rift between the Finance Minister and the Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram. The Finance Minister is likely to brief the media after the meeting.

External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna has said that India has enough support to gain membership of the reformed UN Security Council. He was speaking to reporters in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. On the question of China's support to India's candidature he said nothing is static and said that Beijing may finally come in support as it in favour of developing countries playing a central role in the world body. Foreign Ministers of India, Brazil and South Africa issued a joint statement on the margins of the UNGA, reiterated the need for early reforms in the securitycouncil both in permanent and non permanent categories. Mr. Krishna said that it was good that the Obama administration recognised the links between the ISI and Haqqani network of Taliban, amid a raging US-Pak row over the spy agency's support to the dreaded terror outfit. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said in New York, he thinks that New Delhi's stand has been vindicated.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said, the World Bank needs to find ways to improve its capital base so that it can enhance lending to developing countries. He underlined that with another crisis looming, prioritization of activities is the need of the hour. Mr. Mukherjee said this while intervening during the World Bank's Development Committee meeting on Global Development Issues and the World Development Report 2012 on Gender in Washington.

The flood situation in Odisha continues to be grim with thousands of marooned people waiting for relief even after five days. Though major rivers have started receding, Brahmani river is flowing above the danger level. Large tracts of areas are still marooned. Road communication to many areas in Keonjhar, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapada have been cut off. At least, 17 people have so far lost their lives in the second phase of flood in Odisha that affected more than 22 lakh people in 10 of the 30 districts in the state. The Defence Minister, Mr. A. K. Antony today directed the Indian Air Force to step up deployment of their assets in the flood affected areas of Odisha following the State Government's request for increased assistance to mount relief and rescue operations. Seven MI-17 choppers, one Sea King of the Navy and one Cheetah have been detailed for deployment.

In West Bengal, 65 per cent voting was recorded in the by-election in Bhawanipur and Basirhat North Assembly Constituencies today. The State Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Sunil Gupta told newsmen this evening that voting was ended peacefully without any major untoward incident. The Chief Minister, Ms. Mamta Banerjee is contesting from Bhawanipur seat as Trinamool Congress nominee against her main rival Prof. Nandini Mukherjee of the CPIM. Besides four other candidates are in the fray in this seat. In Basirhat North Constituency the Trinamool Congress candidate, Mr. A.T.M. Abdullah is fighting against Mr. Subid Ali Gazi of CPIM. Two candidates including BJP are also contesting from this seat.

In Andhra Pradesh, the 48-hour long Rail Roko agitation called by Telangana Joint Action Committee demanding statehood has passed off peacefully this evening. Transport services remained paralysed in the region for the past two days due to the rail blockade and strike by auto rickshaw and employees of the state-owned transport corporation for statehood.
Meanwhile, the South Central Railways have begun restoring several express and passenger trains from Hyderabad to other places and also those which pass through Telangana region from tonight. With this, hundreds of passengers who were stranded at various other cities in the state are expected to be deported to their destinations.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, TRAI today said that there is no plan to do away with the restriction of 100 SMSes per SIM per day for all subscribers, except on festivals. Top TRAI sources said that in order to curb the menace of pesky calls and messages this recommendation will be applicable to all users. TRAI's clarification comes within days of telecom operators urging regulator to reconsider its recommendation. Our correspondent reports that TRAI also informed that the recommendations will be applicable from the 27th of this month.

In Nepal, nineteen people, including ten Indians were killed in an air crash in a hill south- of Kathmnadu’s Tribhuvan International airport this morning. While eighteen were killed on the spot, one succumbed to injuries in hospital. The flight was carrying sixteen passengers and three crew. Our correspondent reports that the Indian Embassy at Kathmandu has said it is providing all assistance for prompt evacuation of the remains of the Indian nationals killed in the accident.
The crash took place at Kotdanda in Lalitipur ,while the mountain flight of Buddha air was approaching to land at the Kathmandu Tribhuvan airport valley when it lost contact at 7.31 am local time . Initially due to bad weather Nepal army helicopter could not land but however as the weather cleared the helicopter landed and brought the bodies to Kathmandu .Among the ten dead Indians , two were a couple one , working with UNICEF -Nepal, while the other eight from Tamil Nadu had arrived in Kathmandu only yesterday . They belonged to Thiirupchupalli Centre for Buildings Association and had a three day booking in the hotel . It was a flight to see the Majestic Himalayas but turned into tragedy . A six day conference of Border Security Force and Border Guards Bangladesh began in Dhaka today to discuss ways to strengthen co-operation in border security and management. A twenty one member BSF Delegation led by Director General Raman Srivastava arrived in Dhaka this afternoon to hold talks with the Border Guard Bangladesh delegation which will be led by its Director General Major General Anwar Hussain. The current conference is the first meeting being held after the two sides signed a co-ordinated border management plan in July this year. The meeting will review the progress made on the implementation of the plan which aims to tackle border crimes related to insurgency, terrorism and militancy especially along certain vulnerable areas along the 4096 kilometre border shared by the two countries. Apart from this it is also expected that the two forces will finalise the modalities to hold a retreat ceremony at some border posts on the India Bangladesh border similar to the ceremony at Wagah along the India Pakistan border. India's woman archer Deepika Kumari settled for a silver medal in the prestigious Archery World Cup final held in Istanbul today. She lost narrowly to Ming Cheng of China in a shoot off. The 17 year old Ranchi girl who was India's solitary participant at the World Cup final, had a 4-2 lead at the end of 3rd set, but in a dramatic finish Deepika Kumari lost out 5-6 to miss the gold. India have only one gold medal in the world cup final so far won by Dola Banerjee in Dubai 3 years ago.
