गृहमंत्री पी चिदम्बरम ने कहा है कि पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र का अधिकतर इलाका अब हिंसा से मुक्त है तथा इस क्षेत्र के लगभग सभी अलगाववादी गुट सरकार से बातचीत कर रहे हैं। आज नई दिल्ली में सातवें पूर्वोत्तर व्यापार शिखर सम्मेलन में श्री चिदम्बरम ने कहा कि पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र में शांति केवल बातचीत के जरिये ही हासिल की जा सकती है।

अधिकतर आतंकवादी गुटों को समझ में आ गया है, कि हिंसा से कुछ हाासिल होने वाला नहीं है। सरकार, हिंसा बर्दाश्त नहीं करेंगी और किसी भी गुट को राज्य पर हावी नहीं होने देगी केवल बातचीत के माध्यम से ही समस्याओं का समाधान निकल सकता है।
गृहमंत्री ने कहा कि पिछले कुछ वर्षों में पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र में कई परिवर्तन हुए हैं और हिंसा केवल मणिपुर, असम के कुछ हिस्सों और नगालैंड तक ही सीमित रह गई है। उन्होने कहा कि मेघालय, मिजोरम, सिक्किम, अरूणाचल प्रदेश और असम के अधिकतर हिस्से हिंसा मुक्त हैं लेकिन इस क्षेत्र में जबरन वसूली अब भी चिंता का विषय बनी हुई है जिसे बंद करना होगा, क्योंकि यह उग्रवादी गुटों को धन पहुंचाने का स्रोत है। उन्होंने इससे निपटने के लिए राज्य सरकारों को सहायता की पेशकश की।

श्री चिदम्बरम ने कहा कि पिछले साल ऐसी घटनाओं में काफी कमी आई और इस साल स्थिति में और सुधार होने की आशा है। उन्होंने क्षेत्र में स्थायी शांति की आवश्यकता बताई ताकि यहां अधिक निवेश हो सकें।
सम्मेलन में लघु,अति लघु और मझोले उद्योग मंत्री वीरभद्र सिंह ने कहा कि पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र के सम्पूर्ण विकास के लिए इस क्षेत्र में उपलब्ध प्रचुर संसाधनों का इस्तेमाल करने की जरूरत है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार पूर्वोत्तर क्षेत्र में छोटे और मध्यम दर्जे के व्यवसायियों को समर्थन देने के लिए वहां काफी निवेश कर रही है।

वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने कहा है कि वर्ष २०११-१२ का राजकोषीय घाटा पहले के अनुमान से अधिक हो सकता है। आज चेन्नई में इंस्टीच्यूट ऑफ चार्टर्ड एकाउंटेंट्स ऑफ इंडिया के तीन दिवसीय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन को सम्बोधित करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि यूरो जोन संकट और धीमी प्रगति ने भारत सहित विश्व के अन्य देशों को भी प्रभावित किया है। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आर्थिक संकट के कारण २००८-०९ में भारत का राजकोषीय घाटा, सकल घरेलू उत्पाद-जीडीपी, के साढ़े छह प्रतिशत तक पहुंच गया था, जिसे २००९-१० में कम करके साढ़े चार प्रतिशत पर लाया गया था। इस वर्ष के बजट में अनुमानित राजकोषीय घाटा जीडीपी का चार दशमलव छह प्रतिशत दिखाया गया है।
देश की आर्थिक स्थिति की चर्चा करते हुए वित्तमंत्री ने कहा कि इस वर्ष देश की सकल घरेलू उत्पाद दर सवा नौ प्रतिशत रहने की संभावना है।

प्रधानमंत्री डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा है कि अगर दृढ़इच्छा और निश्चय तो सभी अस्थायी समस्याओं का समाधान हो सकता है। वे यूपीए के सहयोगियों के साथ कुछ समस्याओं के बारे में पूछे गये एक सवाल का जवाब दे रहे थे। डॉ० सिंह ने कहा कि ऊर्जा की बढ़ती मांग को पूरा करने के लिए ऊर्जा के क्षेत्र में सहयोग के अधिक प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं।

दसवां प्रवासी भारतीय दिवस कल से जयपुर में शुरू हो रहा है। प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह इसका आठ जनवरी को उद्घाटन करेंगे। प्रवासी भारतीय दिवस २०१२ का विषय होगा- वैश्विक भारतीय-समग्र विकास। तीन दिवसीय इस समारोह में भाग लेने के लिए ५४ देशों के डेढ़ हजार से अधिक प्रवासी भारतीय जयपुर पहुंच चुके हैं। त्रिनिदाद और टोबैगो की प्रधानमंत्री कमला प्रसाद बिसेसर मुख्य अतिथि होंगी। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटील नौ जनवरी को प्रवासी भारतीय सम्मान प्रदान करेंगी और समापन भाषण देंगी।

तीन दिन के इस समारोह के दौरान जल प्रबंधन, सौर-उर्जा, स्वास्थ्य, पर्यटन और ग्रामीण विकास जैसे विषयों पर संगोष्ठियों का आयोजन होगा। वित्त मंत्री श्री प्रणब मुखर्जी समारोह के औपचारिक उद्घाटन के बाद एक सत्र में समावेशी विकास- आर्थिक उदारीकरण के दो दशक विषय पर एक व्याख्यान देंगे। समारोह के आखिरी दिन राजस्थान, गोवा, गुजरात, मध्यप्रदेश, केरल और झारखंड के मुख्यमंत्री भी वैश्विक सन्दर्भ में भी राज्यों के नये प्रयास और अवसर विषय पर बातचीत करेंगे। प्रवासी भारतीय दिवस स्थानीय उद्यमशील लोगों के लिए अनिवासी भारतीयों के साथ संवाद का एक नायाब अवसर भी उपलबध कराता है।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने आरूषि तलवार हत्याकांड में उसके पिता राजेश और मां नुपुर तलवार पर मुकदमा चलाने को मंजूरी दे दी है। न्यायालय ने तलवार दम्पत्ति की उनके खिलाफ आपराधिक कार्रवाई रद्द करने की याचिका खारिज कर दी। तलवार दत्पत्ति पर उनकी १३ वर्षीय पुत्री आरूषि की हत्या का मुकदमा चलाया जायेगा। आरूषि अपने अपार्टमेंट में मृत पाई गईं थी। तलवार दम्पत्ति ने उच्चतम न्यायालय से निचली अदालत के उस फैसले को निरस्त करने को कहा था जिसमे सीबीआई को उन्हें इस मामले में मुख्य अभियुक्त बनाने का निर्देश दिया गया था।

इलाहाबाद की एक अदालत ने टीम अन्ना के सदस्य शांति भूषण पर एक करोड़ पैंतीस लाख रुपये की स्टैम्प ड्यूटी न चुकाने के आरोप में २७ लाख रुपये का जुर्माना लगाया है। उन्हें एक महीने के अन्दर जुर्माने के अलावा बकाया राशि चुकानी होगी। समूची राशि न चुकाये जाने पर उनके खिलाफ आगे की कार्रवाई की जायेगी।
श्री शांतिभूषण, १९७० के दशक में नई दिल्ली जाने से पहले इसी जमीन पर बने बंगले में रहा करते थे।

सी बी आई ने गुजरात में २००४ के फर्जी मुठभेड़ में बंबई कालेज की छात्रा इशरत जहां और तीन अन्य की हत्या मामले की जांच आज औपचारिक रूप से अपने हाथ में ले ली । गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय के निर्देश के बाद ऐसा किया गया है। उच्च न्यायालय द्वारा नियुक्त विशेष जांच दल ने सी बी आई के आई जी वी वी लक्ष्मीनारायण और दूसरे अधिकारियों को अहमदाबाद में इस मामले से जुड़े दस्तावेज सौंपे।

हैदराबाद की विशेष सीबीआई अदालत ने निलंबित आई ए एस अधिकारी श्रीलक्ष्मी को १२ जनवरी तक न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया है। इससे पहले उन्होंने अदालत में समर्पण किया था। सीबीआई ने उन पर कर्नाटक में अवैध खनन में शामिल होने का आरोप लगाया है। श्रीलक्ष्मी को चंचलगुड़ा केन्द्रीय जेल भेज दिया गया है।

राजस्थान में सीबीआई की विशेष अदालत ने भंवरी देवी मामले में पूर्व मंत्री महिपाल मदेरणा और एक अन्य आरोपी परसराम की न्यायिक हिरासत २८ जनवरी तक बढ़ा दी है।
इस बीच, जलोदा गांव में इस मामले से जुड़े कुछ और सबूत सीबीआई को मिले हैं। गोताखोरों के एक दल ने इंदिरा गांधी नहर से चूड़ियां, सैंडिल, और हड्डी बरामद की है। एक थैले में रखी हुई दो पिस्तौलें भी नहर से निकाली गई हैं।

त्रिनिदाद और टोबैगो की प्रधानमंत्री कमला प्रसाद बिसेसर ने आज शाम प्रधानमंत्री डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह के साथ बातचीत के बाद पांच समझौतों पर हस्तार किए गये। इनमें व्यापार, निवेश, सूचना टेक्नोलॉजी, स्वास्थ्य और आपसी हवाई सेवा का समझौता शामिल है। इसके अलावा संस्कृति, दवाओं और शिक्षा से संबंधित समझौते शामिल हैं। इस अवसर पर दोनों देशों के प्रतिनिधिमंडल भी मौजूद थे।

बातचीत के बाद जारी संयुक्त विज्ञप्ति में दोनों नेताओं ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय आर्थिक और वित्तीय संकट पर गहरी चिन्ता व्यक्त की। दोनों पक्षों ने इस बात पर सहमति जताई कि मौजूदा स्थिति की मांग है कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वित्तीय और मौद्रिक प्रणालियों का पुनर्गठन किया जाय।

सीरिया में राजधानी दमिश्क के मध्य में एक आत्मघाती बम हमले में पचीस लोग मारे गये हैं और ४६ अन्य घायल हो गये हैं। सरकारी समाचार एजेंसी साना के अनुसार यह हमला पुलिस कर्मचारियों को ले जा रही एक बस को निशाना बनाकर किया गया था। इस हमले की जिम्मेदारी अभी तक किसी ने नहीं ली है।

ग्रामीण विकास मंत्री जयराम रमेश ने वित्त मंत्रालय से बारहवीं पंचवर्षीय योजना में विधवा और वृद्धावस्था पेंशन की राशि दो सौ रुपये से बढ़ा कर पांच सौ रुपये करने का आग्रह किया है। आज नई दिल्ली में कृषि कार्य में अकेली महिलाओं के तीन दिवसीय राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन को संबोधित करते हुए श्री रमेश ने कहा कि सरकार अकेली महिलाओं को सशक्त और समर्थ बनाने के लिए वचनबद्ध है।

निर्वाचन आयोग ने उत्तरप्रदेश के प्रशासनिक और पुलिस अधिकारियों से आगामी विधानसभा चुनाव में स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष तरीके से काम करने को कहा है। आज लखनऊ में चुनाव तैयारियों की समीक्षा करते हुए मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त एस.वाई. कुरैशी और निर्वाचन आयुक्तों वी.एस. संपत और एच.एस. ब्रह्‌मा ने कहा कि मतदाताओं के लिए इलेक्ट्रॉनिक फोटो आइडेंटिटी कार्ड-एपिक और मतदाता पर्चियों के वितरण में सरकारी कर्मियों को प्रभावी उपाय करने चाहिएं। उन्होंने कहा कि आयोग पहले ही फैसला कर चुका है कि एपिक के आधार पर ही मतदान कराया जाएगा।

भारी उद्योग और सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के उद्यम मंत्री प्रफुल कुमार पटेल तथा पथ परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्री सी.पी.जोशी ने आज ११वीं वाहन प्रदर्शनी यानि ऑटो एक्सपो-२०१२ का औपचारिक उद्घाटन किया। मेले का उद्घाटन करते हुए श्री पटेल ने कहा कि भारत ऑटो मोबाइल उद्योग में दुनिया का सातवां सबसे बड़ा देश है और जल्द ही ये छठा सबसे बड़ा देश बन जाएगा। श्री जोशी ने कहा कि सरकार ने विद्युत चालित वाहन परियोजना के लिए राष्ट्रीय मिशन की शुरूआत की है। भारतीय मूल के इस्पात उद्योगपति एल. एन. मित्तल भी उद्घाटन समारोह में उपस्थित थे। बाद में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत करते हुए श्री मित्तल ने कहा कि वे ऑटो उद्योग की उत्पादन क्षमता और इसके प्रदर्शन से बेहद प्रभावित हुए हैं। उन्होंने आशा व्यक्त की कि ये उद्योग सुरक्षित, स्वच्छ और किफायती कारें बनायेगा।

बाम्बे स्टाक एक्सचेंज के सेंसेक्स में आज मामूली ११ अंक की वृद्धि हुई और यह १५ हजार ८६८ पर बंद हुआ। दिन के कारोबार के समय सेंसेक्स में जबरदस्त उतार चढाव रहा था। नेशनल स्टाक एक्सचेंज का निफटी भी आज चार अंक बढ़कर चार हजार ७५४ पर बंद हुआ।

ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने सिडनी क्रिकेट टेस्ट मैच में भारत को पारी और ६८ रन से हराकर चार मैचों की श्रृंखला में दो-शून्य की बढ़त बना ली है। आज मैच के चौथे दिन भारत ने दूसरी पारी में ४०० रन बनाए। सचिन तेंदुलकर एक बार फिर शतकों का शतक नहीं लगा पाए। उन्होंने ८० रन बनाए। अंतिम रन संख्या इस प्रकार रहीः- भारत १९१ और ४०० रन।

Home Minister P Chidambaram today said that extortion in the north east region remains a matter of concern. Addressing the seventh North East Business Summit in New Delhi today, Mr Chidambaram said that such incidents have come down significantly in the previous year and the situation will improve further this year. He stressed the need for stable peace in the region to attract more investment in the region.

"I think states in the Northeast have responsibility to ensure that these extortion rackets are suppressed. The Centre has offered support to all States Governments to ensure that extortion does not take place".

The Home Minister said that most of the north east region is conflict free and nearly all separatist groups in the region are in talks with the government. He said that militant groups in the North East have realised that violence will not pay. Stating that it was heartening that most of the militant groups are in favour of a dialogue, he said that peace in the region can be achieved only through talks.

"Most militant groups have come to realise that violence will not pay, state will never allow the violence to pay. The state will never allow any violent group to, overpower the state and talks are the only way to find solutions to their problems,"

The Home Minister added that a lot has changed in the north east region in the last few years and conflict is now confined to Manipur, some parts of Assam and Nagaland.

India is keen to give Bangladesh the most preferred nation status for trade across the border. The government will try to ensure capital flows to that country for business. Further, Mr Chidambaram said that the two countries can join hands in making this part of the world a hub of business activities. He said Bangladesh is blessed with natural resources, especially natural gas and India with entrepreneurs and capital.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said the fiscal deficit for 2011-12 could be more than the projected figure. He WAS addressing a three-day international conference organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in Chennai. He added,the Eurozone crisis and slow progress in other parts of the world has also affected India. Observing that India's fiscal deficit rose to 6.5 per cent in 2008-09 due to the global financial crisis, he said in 2009-10 it was brought to 4.5 per cent. In the Budget, the fiscal deficit is projected at 4.6 per cent of the GDP. The Finance Minister said the GDP is expected to be at 9.25 per cent this year.

The government says it will soon notify 100 per cent foreign direct investment in single-brand retail. Secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion P K Chaudhery, said this in response to a question about issuance of notification of 100 per cent FDI in single-brand retail. The decision to increase FDI in single brand retail was taken by the Cabinet on 24th of November last year. Presently, for single brand retailers, 51 per cent FDI is permitted.

The Supreme Court has given the green signal to conduct trial against Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in their daughter Aarushi's murder case. The Apex court dismissed the Talwar couple's petition for quashing of criminal proceedings against them. The Talwar couple will be tried for the murder of their 13-year-old daughter, Aarushi, who was found in their apartment with her throat slit. The Talwars had asked the Supreme Court to over-rule the verdict of a lower court that ordered the CBI to make them the main accused in the case.

An Allahabad court has slapped team Anna member Shanti Bhushan with a fine of 27 lakh rupees for evading stamp duty to the tune of 1.35 crore rupees. Assistant Stamp Commissioner K P Pandey today said that Mr. Bhushan, a former Union Minister, has so far paid 46,700 rupees towards stamp duty for the purchase of the property spread over 7,818 Square metres of land in the posh Civil Lines area. He will have to pay within a month the outstanding amount, in addition to the fine, with 1.5 per cent interest with effect from 29th November 2010.

The CBI today formally took over investigation into the 2004 fake encounter killing of Mumbai college girl Ishrat Jahan and three others in Gujarat. It was done following directions from the Gujarat High Court. A team of CBI officials headed by IG V V Laxminarayan, was handed over the case papers and other documents related to the case in Amedabad by officials of the high court-appointed Special Investigation Team. Mr. Laxminarayan heads the Hyderabad Zone of the agency.

Special court of CBI has extended till 28 January the judicial custody of former minister Mahipal Maderna and one other accused,Parasram in the Bhanwari Devi case. Meanwhile in an important development, the CBI has found some more evidence in Jaloda village today. A team of divers got some bangles, sandal, ash and bone from Indira Gandhi canal. One bag containing two pistols was also recovered from the canal.

Congress charged BJP and BSP today of having a mutual understanding to politicize the corruption issue. Briefing reporters, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that expulsion of a tainted UP Minister by one party and induction by the other is an evidence of this fact. He added that senior BJP leader L K Advani should start a ‘Jan Chetna Yatra’ to generate awareness about corruption in his party.

BJP today said that it will take appropriate action against newly inducted party member Babu Singh Khushwaha if there is any indictment against him. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, party spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman said that BJP is being targeted because it is giving a platform to leaders from the OBC background who have been denied leadership by other parties. She also charged the Congress with nepotism and said that decision making in Congress is dominated by family politics.

Five pacts including a bilateral air-service agreement were signed at the end of the delegation level talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Trinidad-and-Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar in New Delhi this evening. The two Prime Ministers decided to enhance trade and economic investment and focussed on energy , information technology and health sectors in the talks. The other MoUs are in the areas of culture, medicine, and education.

In a joint statement issued after the talks, the two leaders expressed deep concern over the international, economic and financial crisis and agreed that the current situation demands restructuring of international, financial and monetary system. The two sides discussed in detail international development and multilateralism and said that they will take more steps to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

In Syria, 25 persons were killed and over 46 were injured in a suicide bombing in Central Damascus. The Official Syrian News Agency SANA said the blast was carried out by a suicide bomber who blew himself up at a traffic light in a densely populated area. Most of those killed were civilians. This is the second such incident in the capital Damascus. Details are awaited.

Heavy Industry and Public Sector Enterprises Minister Praful Patel and Road Transport and Highways Minister C P Joshi today formally inaugurated the 11th Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi. Speaking after inaugurating the fair, Mr Patel said India is the seventh largest automobile industry in the world and it would soon become the sixth largest. Mr Joshi said government has started National Mission for Electric Vehicle Mobility project.

Strengthening the security apparatus to combat terrorism will top the agenda of the Delhi Police this year. This was stated by the Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta while addressing the annual press conference in New Delhi today. He said that in the present year, the police will focus on terror groups as metros like Delhi and Mumbai are more vulnerable to terror attacks. Mr Gupta said that intelligence gathering mechanism will also be strengthened further for the purpose.

Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has urged the finance ministry to increase the widow and old age pension from 200 to 500 rupees in the first phase of the 12th five year plan to empower women. Addressing the three day National Consultation on agrarian single women in New Delhi today, Mr Ramesh said that government is committed to empower the single women in the country for sustainable development. He said that his ministry will provide complete financial support to those NGOs who are working for the empowerment of single women.

Over 284 lakh hectare areas have been covered under wheat cultivation across the country so far. According to a data released by the Agriculture Ministry, the cultivated area is 80 thousand hectare more than last year during the same period. Higher coverage of wheat has been reported from Madhya Pradesh followed by Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar. The release also said that sowing of rice is also picking up in states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.
