दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने फेसबुक और गुगल सहित विभिन्न सोशल नेटवर्क साइट्स को कथित रूप से आपत्तिजनक सामग्री प्रदर्शित करने पर सम्मन जारी किये हैं और १३ मार्च को अदालत में हाजिर होने को कहा है। अदालत ने विदेश मंत्रालय से कहा है कि विदेश स्थित कंपनियों को ये सम्मन पहुंचाने की व्यवस्था करें। इससे पहले, फेसबुक इंडिया के वकील ने कहा था कि इस मामले में नामित २१ कंपनियों में से दस विदेशी मूल की हैं और उन तक सम्मन पहुंचाने के लिए अदालत को विशेष व्यवस्था करनी होगी।
अदालत इन कंपनियों के खिलाफ एक पत्रकार द्वारा दायर निजी शिकायत की सुनवाई कर रही थी। जिन कंपनियों को सम्मन जारी किये गये हैं उनमें फेसबुक, माइक्रोसॉफ्ट, गूगल, याहू और यूट्यूब भी शामिल हैं।

तमिलनाडु में सतर्कता और भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक निदेशालय के अधिकारियों ने तमिलनाडु लोक सेवा आयोग की नियुक्तियों में कथित अनियमितताओं के सिलसिले मे आज चौथी बार राज्य के ७० से अधिक स्थानों पर छापे मारे निदेशालय के सूत्रों ने बताया कि ये छापे आयोग की विभिन्न परीक्षाओं में हिस्सा लेने वाले प्रत्याशियों के परिसरों पर मारे गये।
इससे पहले, सतर्कता भ्रष्टाचार रोधी निदेशालय ने राज्य लोक सेवा आयोग के अध्यक्ष, कुछ सदस्यों और अधिकारियों के अलावा घोटाले में कथित तौर पर शामिल बिचौलियों के परिसरों पर छापे मारे थे। आयोग के अध्यक्ष टी आर सेल्लामुत्तु और कई सदस्यों पर आर्थिक लाभ उठाने और पद का दुरूपयोग करने जैसे आपराधिक मामलों के आरोप लगाये गये हैं।
तमिलनाडु में सहायक डेंटल सर्जन और मोटर वेहिकल इंस्पेक्टर ग्रेड-२ की भर्ती में कथित अनियमितताओं के लेकर भ्रष्टाचार रोधी कानून की विभिन्न धाराओं के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया है।

दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने जनता पार्टी प्रमुख सुब्रमण्यम स्वामी को तीस जनवरी तक अंतरिम सुरक्षा प्रदान की है। यह सुरक्षा कथित रूप से एक भड़काऊ लेख लिखने के लिए उनकी संभावित गिरफ्‌तारी के खिलाफ की गयी है। न्यायमूर्ति एम एल मेहता ने श्री स्वामी के एक हलफनामे के आधार पर यह अंतरिम सुरक्षा मंजूर की, जिसमें उन्होंने भविष्य में इस प्रकार के लेख न लिखने का आश्वासन दिया है। न्यायालय ने श्री स्वामी की अग्रिम जमानत की याचिका पर दिल्ली पुलिस को जवाब देने का नोटिस दिया है। श्री स्वामी ने पिछले साल अक्टूबर में दिल्ली पुलिस की अपराध शाखा द्वारा जुलाई में अखबार में एक लेख लिखे जाने के लिए उनके खिलाफ दायर मामले में अग्रिम जमानत का अनुरोध किया था।

पंजाब विधानसभा की ११७ सीटों के लिए एक हजार ८८० उम्मीदवारों ने नामांकनपत्र भरे हैं। इन सीटों के लिए इस महीने की तीस तारीख को एक ही चरण में मतदान होगा। कल नामांकन दाखिल करने के अंतिम दिन नौ सौ उम्मीदवारों ने पर्चे भरे। सबसे अधिक ९८ उम्मीदवारों ने कल लुधियाना जिले में अपने पर्चे दाखिल किये। दूसरे नम्बर पर अमृतसर से ८८ उम्मीदवारों ने अपने नामांकनपत्र भरे। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि नाम वापस लेने की अंतिम तिथि १६ जनवरी है। उसके बाद ही उम्मीदवारों की असली तस्वीर सामने आएगी। आज नामांकनपत्रों की जांच की जा रही है।
इस बीच, चुनाव कार्यालय ने कांग्रेस की शिकायत की जांच करने के बाद, लुधियाना के सतर्कता एस एस पी को उत्तराखण्ड स्थानांतरित करने के आदेश दे दिये हैं।
उधर, राज्य में निर्वाचन आयोग ने पंजाब में लोगों को मतदान का महत्व समझाने के लिए पंजाबी भाषा में १७ लघु फिल्मों की एक सीडी तैयार की है। जालंधर के उप चुनाव अधिकारी प्रियंक भारती ने इन फिल्मों के बारे में जानकारी देते हुए कहा कि इन्हें जालंधर दूरदर्शन के अलावा स्थानीय केबल नेटवर्क और सिनेमाघरों में भी दिखाया जाएगा।
इन फिल्मों में बताया गया है कि उम्मीदवार की अनुमति के बिना उसके पक्ष में विज्ञापन देने वाले के खिलाफ कानूनी कार्रवाई की जा सकती है,  धार्मिक स्थलों में चुनावी सभाएं करना गैर-कानूनी है और अगर किसी मतदाता का फोटो पहचान पत्र खो जाए तो भी वह निर्वाचन आयोग के किसी अधिकारी द्वारा दी गई पर्ची के आधार पर वोट दे सकता है।

उत्तराखंड में ७० सदस्यों की विधानसभा के चुनाव के लिए नामांकन पत्रों की जांच का काम आज चल रहा है। संयुक्त मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी के अनुसार देहरादून जिले में सबसे अधिक १९५ उम्मीदवारों ने नामांकन पत्र दाखिल किये हैं जबकि चम्पावत जिले में केवल १५ पर्चे दाखिल किये गये हैं। ब्यौरे के साथ हमारे संवाददाता-

इस महीने की १६ तारीख को नामांकन की अवधि खत्म होने के बाद ही उम्मीदवारों की सही तस्वीर सामने आएगी। प्राप्त सूचना के अनुसार नामांकन करने वालों में ज्यादातर निर्दलीय हैं, जिनमें भारतीय जनता पार्टी और कांग्रेस के असंतुष्ट भी शामिल हैं। विधानसभा के बाकी आने वाले प्रमुख उम्मीदवारों में भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेता और मुख्यमंत्री श्री खंडूरी, पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री रमेश पोखरिया निशंक, विधानसभा अध्यक्ष रमेश कपूर के साथ ही नेता प्रतिपक्ष हरिश सिंह रावत और प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष यशपाल आर्य शामिल हैं। इसके अलावा वामपंथी पार्टियों के साथ ही बहुजन समाज पार्टी, समाजवादी पार्टी, उत्तराखंड क्रांित दल-बी और अन्य पार्टियों के प्रतियाशी भी चुनाव मैदान में हैं। राघवेश पांडेय आकाशवाणी समाचार देहरादून।

मणिपुर में कल नामांकन पत्रों की जांच के बाद चुनाव प्रचार ज+ोर पकड़ने लगा है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि उम्मीदवार घर-घर जाकर प्रचार कर रहे हैं।

नामांकन पत्रों की जांच के बाद आज से अधिकतर उम्मीदवारों ने चुनाव प्रचार शुरू कर दिया है। इम्फाल में सुबह से ही प्रत्याशी घर-घर जाकर प्रचार कर रहे हैं। हालांकि राजनीतिक पार्टियां और उम्मीदवार आतंकवादियों के खतरे को ध्यान में रखते हुए जन-सभाओं से बच रहे हैं। इस बीच, राज्य के मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी ने जिला अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिया है कि जिलों में हालात को देखते हुए उम्मीदवारों का नामांकन तब तक वापस न लें, जब तक उनकी पूरी जांच न हो जाए। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए इबोमचा की रिपोर्ट के साथ मैं शशांक कुमार।

भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी और मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने गोआ विधानसभा चुनाव में संयुक्त रूप से अपने उम्मीदवार खड़े करने का फैसला किया है। भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी पॉंच सीटों पर और मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी दो सीटों पर चुनाव लड़ेगी। कल पणजी में यह घोषणा करते हुए भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी की गोआ इकाई के महासचिव क्रिस्टोफर फोन्सेका ने कहा कि उन्होंने पॉंच निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों के लिए उम्मीदवारों के नामों का फैसला कर लिया है जबकि दो के बारे में अभी फैसला किया जाना है।
इस बीच तृणमूल कांग्रेस ने भी राज्य में तीन मार्च को होने वाले चुनाव के लिए अपने उम्मीदवार खड़े करने का फैसला किया है।

केरल में सतर्कता और भ्रष्टाचार रोधी ब्यूरो ने सरकारी भूमि के आवंटन में कथित धांधली के लिए वरिष्ठ मार्क्सवादी और विधानसभा में विपक्ष के नेता वी. एस. अच्युतानन्दन के खिलाफ एफआईआर दर्ज की है। इस मामले में पूर्व मंत्री और भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के नेता के. पी. राजेन्द्रन दूूसरे अभियुक्त हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि एफआईआर में आरोप लगाया गया है कि श्री अच्युतानन्दन के मुख्यमंत्री पद पर रहते हुए उनके संबंधी, एक पूर्व सैन्यकर्मी को कासरगौड जि+ले में सरकारी जमीन से करीब सवा दो एकड़ भूमि आवंटित की गई थी।

अंडमान निकोबार पुलिस ने जारवा जनजाति की महिलाओं के कथित शोषण की वीडियो फिल्म बनाने मंें शामिल लोगों कें खिलाफ मामला दर्ज किया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि केन्द्रीय गृह मंत्रालय के निर्देश के बाद द्वीप प्रशासन ने इस घटना के जिम्मेदार लोगों को ढूंढने के लिए व्यापक तलाशी अभियान शुरू किया है।
 
द्वीप प्रशासन का कहना है कि जारवा लड़कियों के नृत्य के साथ जो वीडियो इलेक्टोनिक मीडिया में दिखाया गया, वह कई वर्ष पुराना है। पुलिस महानिदेश एव.पी. देआल ने मीडिया के उस खबर को गैर जिम्मेदाराना बताया है जिसमें यह आरोप था कि पर्यटक के सामने जारवा लड़की को नृत्य करने का निर्देश एक पुलिसकर्मी ने दिया। टीवी चैनलों पर दिखाए गए दृश्यों का बारीकी से निरक्षण के बाद यह स्पष्ट हो चुका है कि खाकीवर्दीधारी पुलिसकर्मी नहीं है। वह कोई सुरक्षागार्ड ही हो सकता है। इस बीच इस मामले की मुख्य सचिव की देख रेख में जाच आरंभ हो चुकी है। उधर मौजूदा जारवा नीति की समीक्षा के लिए भारत सरकार पहले ही एक विशेषज्ञ समिति गठित कर चुकी है, जो जारवा जनजाति के सशक्तिकरण के लिए अपने सुझाव देगी। ए. धनशेखरन के साथ दुर्गविजय सिंह दीप पोर्ट ब्लेयर।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र और विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने पूरे एक वर्ष पोलियो-मुक्त रहने पर भारत की सराहना की है। आकाशवाणी से बातचीत में भारत में युनिसेफ के पोलियो नियंत्रण कार्यक्रम के प्रमुख लीवेन डेसोमर ने इस सफलता का श्रेय सरकार के लगातार प्रयासों को दिया और कहा कि पूरी तरह पोलियो-मुक्त घोषित होने के लिए भारत को प्रयास जारी रखने होंगे।
विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन की महानिदेशक मार्गरेट चैन ने इसे जनस्वास्थ्य के क्षेत्र में देश की सबसे बड़ी उपलब्धि बताया है। लेकिन स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण मंत्री गुलाम नबी आजाद ने आगाह किया है कि हमें ढील नहीं देनी चाहिए, बल्कि देश को पूरी तरह पोलियो-मुक्त रखने के लिए सभी संभव प्रयास करते रहने चाहिए।
हमारी संवाददाता ने बताया है कि विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन के नियमों के अनुसार जब किसी देश में लगातार तीन वर्ष तक पोलियो का कोई नया रोगी सामने नहीं आता, तभी उसे पूरी तरह पोलियो-मुक्त घोषित किया जाता है।

हर साल २४ लाख से अधिक पोलिया कार्यकर्ताओं का लगभग १७ करोड पांच साल के उम्र से कम बच्चों को पोलियो की खुराक पिलाने की मेहनत रंग ला रही है। देश आज पोलियो मुक्त होने की राह पर अग्रसर है। सरकार ने आज तक इस दिशा में राष्ट्रीय पोलियो उन्मूलन कार्यक्रम के तहत १२ हजार करोड़ से अधिक राशि खर्च की है। हालांकि देखा जाए तो भारत नेपोलियो उन्मूलन के क्षेत्र में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर उदाहरण प्रस्तुत किया है। पर अभी भी इसके पडोसी देशों से प्रसार की संभावना बनी हुई है। ऐसे में इस अभियान को और कारगर करने की जरूरत है, ताकि देश में पोलियो से जुड़ा कोई भी नया मामला सामने न आए। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए दिल्ली से मैं सुमिता यादव।

मेघालय की पूर्व गारो पहाड़ियों से सटे असम में कामरूप, ग्वालपाड़ा और धुबरी जिलों में बर्डफ्‌लू अलर्ट जारी किया गया है। पशु चिकित्सा विभाग के निदेशक मुक्ति गोगोई ने पड़ोस के पूर्वी गारो पर्वतीय जिले में बर्डफ्‌लू की पुष्टि को ध्यान में रखते हुए अधिकारियों से मुर्गियों पर नजर रखने को कहा है। उन्होंने कहा है कि ग्वालपाड़ा के उपायुक्त और जिला चिकित्सा विभाग को मेघालय से मुर्गियों के असम में आने से रोकने के लिए कड़ी चौकसी बरतने को कहा हैं।

मणिपुर में पुलिस और सुरक्षा बलों के साथ दो मुठभेड़ों में तीन उग्रवादी मारे गये हैं। पुलिस सूत्रों ने बताया कि एक उग्रवादी आज सुबह करीब साढ़े चार बजे इम्फाल में लामशांग थाना क्षेत्र में एक मुठभेड़ में मारा गया।  कल रात पातसोई में पुलिस और सेना की सिख रेजीमेंट के साथ एक अन्य मुठभेड़ में दो उग्रवादी मारे गये। मुठभेड़ स्थल से दो पिस्तौल और तीन हथगोले बरामद किये गए हैं।

सरकार ने निजी उद्यमियों, केन्द्रीय भण्डारण निगम और राज्य भण्डारण निगमों के माध्यम से गोदाम बनाने की एक योजना तैयार की है। नई दिल्ली में जारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार १९ राज्यों में इस योजना के तहत करीब एक करोड़ ५१ लाख टन की भण्डारण क्षमता निर्मित की जाएगी। इन राज्यों में आंध्रप्रदेश, छत्तीसगढ़, बिहार, हरियाणा, उत्तरप्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र और केरल भी शामिल हैं। विज्ञप्ति में यह भी कहा गया है कि इस योजना के अंतर्गत निजी उद्यमियों को दस साल के लिए गोदाम किराये पर लेने का आश्वासन भी दिया गया है। निजी उद्यमियों द्वारा ६९ लाख टन भण्डारण क्षमता बनाने के लिए निविदाओं को अंतिम रूप दे दिया गया है।

आंध्रप्रदेश सरकार ने गरीबी रेखा से नीचे के परिवारों को एक लाख अतिरिक्त एलपीजी कनैक्शन आवंटित किये हैं। राज्य के नागरिक आपूर्ति विभाग ने दीपम्‌ योजना के तहत यह सुविधा उपलब्ध कराई है। सरकार तेल कंपनियों को सिलेंडर और रेग्यूलेटर की धनराशि का सीधे भुगतान करेगी, जबकि सिलेंडर भरवाने की कीमत उपभोक्ता को अदा करनी होगी।
मौजूदा वित्तवर्ष में अब तक गरीबी रेखा से नीचे के चार लाख परिवारों को एलपीजी कनैक्शन उपलब्ध कराये गए हैं।

पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री युसुफ रजा गिलानी ने कहा है कि वे न्यायपालिका और सेना के साथ बढ़ते तनाव को देखते हुए संसद में विश्वास मत हासिल नहीं करेंगे, क्योंकि वे शासन के विभिन्न अंगो के बीच किसी प्रकार का टकराव नहीं चाहते। श्री गिलानी ने आज नेशनल असेम्बली के विशेष अधिवेशन में ये बात कही। असेम्बली की बैठक सत्ताधारी गठबंधन द्वारा उच्चतम न्यायालय की इस चेतावनी के बाद बुलाई गई थी कि रिश्वत के हाई-प्रोफाइल मामलों को फिर से न खोलने के लिए राष्ट्रपति और प्रधानमंत्री के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की जा सकती है। विपक्ष की आलोचना करते हुए श्री गिलानी ने कहा कि उनकी सरकार को उच्चतम न्यायालय के इस आदेश से उत्पन्न संकट से निपटने के लिए विपक्ष के समर्थन की जरूरत नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि रिश्वत के मामलों को नेशनल रीकन्सिलिएशन ऑर्डिनेंस के तहत रद्द कर दिया गया था, जो पिछले सैन्य शासन द्वारा जारी किया गया था। इस ऑर्डिनेंस को २००९ में उच्चतम न्यायालय ने खारिज कर दिया था।
पाकिस्तान की सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने उच्च पदों पर कथित भ्रष्टाचार के मामले की सुनवाई तय कर दी है, जिसमें राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी का भी नाम आया है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने ऐसे मामलों में कोई कार्रवाई न करने पर प्रधानमंत्री यूसुफ रजा गिलानी की आलोचना की थी और उनके खिलाफ कार्रवाई करने की धमकी भी दी थी।
इस बीच, पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी दुबई से स्वेदश लौट आये हैं। सेना के साथ गहराते राजनीतिक संकट के बीच वे कल दुबई चले गये थे। सरकारी अधिकारियों का कहना है कि वे एक शादी में शामिल होने गये थे।
बुधवार को सेना ने प्रधानमंत्री यूसुफ रजा गिलानी की सार्वजनिक रूप से आलोचना की थी और उन्हें गंभीर नतीजों की चेतावनी दी थी। इससे पहले, श्री गिलानी ने मीडिया के साथ एक इन्टरव्यू में सैनिक नेताओं की आलोचना की थी और रक्षा सचिव को बर्खास्त कर दिया था। श्री गिलानी ने कल मंत्रिमंडल की रक्षा समिति की बैठक बुलाई है।

जापान के प्रधानमंत्री योशिहिको नोदा ने अपने मंत्रिमण्डल में फेरबदल किया है। देश के गहराते आर्थिक संकट से निपटने के लिए कर वृद्धि की अपनी योजना पर अमल करने की कोशिश में उन्होंने यह फैसला किया है। मंत्रिमण्डल के पांच सदस्यों को बदला गया है, जिनमें कई गड़बड़ियों के लिए जिम्मेदार दो मंत्री भी शामिल हैं। श्री नोदा ने कर सुधार लागू करने के लिए पूर्व विदेश मंत्री कात्सुया ओकादा को उपप्रधानमंत्री बनाया है। वित्त और विदेश मंत्री सहित १२ पदों में कोई बदलाव नहीं किया गया है।

भारत और जापान बुनियादी ढांचागत क्षेत्रों में आपसी सहयोग बढ़ाने पर सहमत हो गए हैं। दोनों देश, सड़क परिवहन प्रबंधन व्यवस्था तथा आधुनिक परिवहन प्रणाली सहित सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग क्षेत्र में तकनीकी ज्ञान और विशेषज्ञता के आदान-प्रदान में सहयोग के सहमति पत्र को अंतिम रूप देने के स्तर पर पहुंच गए हैं। यह फैसला, सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्री डॉ० सी पी जोशी और जापान के सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्री ताकेशी मएदा के बीच कल नई दिल्ली में हुई एक बैठक में किया गया।

म्यामां सरकार ने कुछ और बंदियों की रिहाई शुरू कर दी है। उम्मीद की जा रही है कि इनमें सरकार के विरूद्ध आंदोलन करने वाले प्रमुख लोग भी शामिल होंगे। म्यामां के अधिकारियों ने इससे पहले ६५१ कैदियों की रिहाई की घोषणा की थी। सूत्रों के अनुसार जिन प्रमुख लोगों को रिहा किया जा रहा है उनमें पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री खिन न्यून और १९८८ के छात्र आंदोलन से जुड़े को जिमी भी शामिल हो सकते हैं। शांति का नोबेल पुरस्कार प्राप्त और लोकतंत्र समर्थक नेता आंग सान सू ची की पार्टी नेशनल लीग फार डेमोक्रेसी ने इसे एक सकारात्मक संकेत बताया है।

नेपाल सरकार ने भगवान बुद्ध के जन्मस्थान लुम्बिनी को विश्व शांति नगर के रूप में विकसित करने के लिए दक्षिण कोरिया से २० लाख अमरीकी डॉलर की सहायता स्वीकार करने का फैसला किया है। राष्ट्रपति डॉक्टर रामबरन यादव कल लुम्बिनी चलो वर्ष २०१२ का शुभारंभ करेंगे। काठमांडु में कल शाम मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक में यह भी फैसला किया गया कि पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करने के लिए नेपाल के अलग-अलग हिस्सों में पर्यटन अभियान चलाया जाएगा।
योजना और कार्यमंत्री हृदयेश त्रिपाठी के अनुसार मंत्रिमंडल ने बंगाल की खाड़ी के आसपास के देशों के बहुक्षेत्रीय तकनीकी और आर्थिक सहयोग के बारे में मंत्रिस्तरीय बैठक के लिए २८ लाख रुपये आवंटित करने का भी फैसला किया है। नेपाल और भारत के बीच गृहसचिव स्तर की बैठक में शामिल होने वाले दल का भी अनुमोदन किया गया।

यमन में राष्ट्रपति अली अब्दुल्ला सालेह पर मुकदमा चलाने से दी गई छूट के विरोध में हजारों की संख्या में लोगों ने विरोध प्रदर्शन किये। प्रदर्शनकारी, सालेह शासन के खिलाफ विद्रोह में मारे गये लोगों के लिए न्याय की माग कर रहे थे। राजधानी सना में प्रदर्शनकारी चेंज स्क्वेयर में एकत्र हुए। यमन के मंत्रिमण्डल ने रविवार को राष्ट्रपति सालेह को यह छूट देने वाले एक समझौते को मंजूरी दी थी।
एक अन्य घटनाक्रम में यमन में संयुक्त राष्ट्र के दूत जमाल बेनोमार ने उपराष्ट्रपति हादी से मुलाकात की। यमन में सत्ता हस्तांतरण समझौते पर अमल की प्रगति का जायजा लेने के लिए सुरक्षा परिषद की बैठक २५ जनवरी को होगी। पिछले साल नवम्बर में सालेह ने देश में राजनीतिक संकट समाप्त करने के लिए जीसीसी द्वारा कराये गये शांति समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये थे। इस समझौते के तहत उन्होंने उपराष्ट्रपति हादी को सत्ता सौंप दी थी और विपक्ष ने राष्ट्रीय एकता सरकार का गठन किया था।

खेल मंत्रालय ने राष्ट्रीय खेल विकास निधि योजना के अंतर्गत नौ खिलाड़ियों और उनके प्रशिक्षकों को विदेश में ट्रेनिंग को मंजूरी दे दी है। इन खिलाड़ियों ने आगामी लंदन ओलम्पिक्स के लिए या तो क्वालीफाई कर लिया है, या उनके क्वालीफाई किये जाने की संभावना है। एक सरकारी विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि ये प्रशिक्षण छह देशों में होगा, जिनमें अमरीका, हंगरी, जर्मनी, कीनिया और दक्षिण अफ्रीका शामिल है। इन खिलाड़ियों में प्रमुख हैं विकास गौड़, ओमप्रकाश सिंह, कृष्णा पूनिया, कविता राउत और हरवंत कौर।

एलपीजी के इस्तेमाल में कमी लाने और कूड़े कचरे तथा गोबर का अधिकतम उपयोग करने के उद्देश्य से असम के ग्रामीण इलाकों में पर्यावरण को नुकसान न पहुंचाने वाले, बायोगैस संयंत्र लगाये जा रहे हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि राष्ट्रीय बायोगैस तथा गोबर प्रबंधन कार्यक्रम के तहत अब तक ८८ हजार से अधिक परिवारों ने बायोगैस इकाइयां लगायीं हैं।

बायो गैस मिथेन से समृद्धि है और खाना पकाने के साथ बिजली के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है। कहा जाता है कि एक गाय की एक दिन की खाद से तीन किलोवाट घर में बिजली उत्पन्न कर सकते हैं। बायो गैस के अधिकतम उपयोग के लिए असम में दीनबंधु बायो गैस प्लांट शुरू किया है, इससे कृषि के लिए जैविक खाद का उत्पादन भी होता है। प्रदेश के सामाजिक वन विद्या के मुख्य संरक्षक एम.एम. शर्मा जो इस कार्यक्रम के मुख्य न्यूडेल अधिकारी हैं ने कहा है कि अगर ठीक से देखभाल किया जाए तो एक प्लांट बीस साल तक उपयोग किया जा सकता है। असम के ग्रामीण लोग इस प्रयोग को अपना रहे हैं। सरकार पर्यावरण के अनुकूल इस प्रणाली को अपनाने पर सब्सिडी भी देते हैं। मानस प्रतिम शर्मा आकाशवाणी गुवाहाटी।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र में भारत के राजदूत हरदीप सिंह पुरी ने कल भारत सरकार के दस लाख डॉलर के अंशदान का चैक संयुक्त राष्ट्र महिला संगठन की अवर महासचिव और कार्यकारी निदेशक मिशेल बेशलेट को सौंपा। यह अंशदान संयुक्त राष्ट्र महिला संसाधनों के लिए पचास लाख डॉलर उपलब्ध कराने की भारत की वचनबद्धता की दूसरी किस्त है।

चर्चित वेबसाइट विकीलीक्स को गोपनीय जानकारी देने के मामले की सुनवाई कर रहे अमरीकी सैनिक ट््राइब्यूनल ने ब्रैडली मैनिंग के कोर्ट मार्शल की सिफारिश की है। अमरीकी सेना में खुफिया जानकारी के विश्लेषक मैनिंग पर आरोप है कि उन्होंने ही अमरीकी सरकार के गोपनीय संदेश विकीलीक्स को उपलब्ध कराए। हजारों दस्तावेज लीक करने और दुश्मन की मदद करने के आरोप झेल रहे मैनिंग अगर दोषी पाए गए तो उन्हें आजीवन कारावास की सजा हो सकती है। उन्हें इस लीक के मामले में मई, २०१० में गिरफ्‌तार किया गया था। अमरीकी सेना ने इस मामले पर जारी एक बयान में ट््राइब्यूनल के प्रमुख लेफि्‌टनेंट कर्नल पॉल अलमांजा की टिप्पणी का जिक्र किया है जिसमें ये कहा गया है ÷÷इस बात पर विश्वास करने के पर्याप्त आधार हैं कि अभियुक्त पर जो आरोप लगा है वह उसमें शामिल था।÷÷ सेना के बयान के अनुसार उसने इस बात की सिफारिश की है कि ये मामला कोर्ट मार्शल के लिए भेजा जाए।

A Delhi court today issued summons to a number of foreign-based social networking sites, including Facebook and Google, to face criminal charges for allegedly hosting objectionable content and directed them to appear before it on March 13. The court has asked the Ministry of External Affairs to get the summons served on these companies.

The court direction came after the counsel, appearing for Facebook India, said over ten out of 21 companies named as accused in the case were foreign-based and that the court would have to issue process to serve the summons on them. The court was hearing a private complaint filed by a journalist against these firms for allegedly web-casting objectionable content. The summonses were issued to the sites including Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Youtube.

Janata Party Chief Subramanian Swamy was today granted interim protection till January 30 by the Delhi High Court against his possible arrest for writing an allegedly inflammatory article.  Justice M L Mehta granted interim protection to Swamy on an undertaking by him that he would not write such articles in future and issued notice to the Delhi Police for its response on Swamy's anticipatory bail plea.

Swamy had moved the high court yesterday seeking anticipatory bail in the case filed against him in October last year by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police for writing an article in a newspaper in July last year which, it said, tended to spread communal enmity.

In Tamil Nadu, officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, DVAC, today conducted raids at over 70 places across the state in its fourth round of searches in connection with alleged irregularities in appointments made by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).  DVAC sources said, the searches were carried out at the premises of candidates who had appeared for various exams conducted by the TNPSC. Earlier, the DVAC had conducted raids on the premises of the Chairman and members of TNPSC and some officials working with the Constitutional body besides middlemen allegedly involved in the scam late last year.

TNPSC Chairman T R Sellamuthu and several members of the commission are facing charges including criminal misconduct by obtaining pecuniary advantage and abuse of official position. A case had been filed under different sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act over alleged irregularities in recruitment of Assistant Dental Surgeons and Motor Vehicle Inspectors Grade II.

The United Nations and the World Health Organisation have lauded India for remaining polio free for a whole year.  Talking to All India Radio, Chief of the Polio Programme of UNICEF in India, Lieven Desomer attributed the success to the government's sustained efforts and added that routine immunization needs to continue for India to be declared polio free.

"Lots of credit to the Government of India to reaching this first milestone in a very important process. I think it is important to India to reach this and also for the world, a lot of confidence worldwide and actually polio eradication can be done. It is not over yet. We reached the milestone but now we need to start working very strongly on the routine immunization to really build up further the immunity for the children, so if any case comes back from any other country into India, it would not result in a massive outbreak. As well India have to maintain this status for the next two years. So size of routine immunization, a lot of work is needed on water and sanitation, on nutrition and on other issues which are underlined factors contributing to the circulation of virus in the communities."

In a statement, WHO Director General Margaret Chan termed it as the greatest public health achievement of the country.  Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad however cautioned that there is still no room for complacency and all efforts need to be made to ensure complete eradication of polio from the country. Our Correspondent reports that according to WHO norms a country can be declared totally polio free if there are no polio cases reported for three continuous years.

Efforts of 24 lakh vaccinators visiting over 20 crore households to administer polio vaccine to nearly 17 crore children under the age of five have finally paid off with the country becoming polio free. Government has till date spent more than 12000 crore rupees on the National Pulse Polio Immunization programme. Although India has set an example at the global stage with interrupting the transmission of polio virus for one whole year, threat of polio still persists with the risk of importation of the polio virus from neighbouring countries. The Andaman and Nicobar police has registered a case against those involved in the filming of the video on the alleged exploitation of Jarawa women. Following the direction from the Home Ministry, the Islands administration has started a detailed investigation to trace the persons responsible for the exploitation of the aboriginal tribe Jarawas. "The islands administration informed that the controversial video was shot long back by unknown persons by enticing the Jarawa girls. The Police DGP, S B Deol denied the irresponsible reports in the media, alleging that a police man ordered Jarawa women to dance in front of tourists. The close examination of the video footage telecast by the T V channels revealed that the person in uniform is not a police man, but appears like a private security guard. A thorough investigation on this issue under the direct supervision of the Chief Secretary is in full swing now to book the offenders under law. In Uttarakhand, scrutiny of nomination papers is in progress for the 70-member Assembly polls on the 30th of this month.  According to State Election Office about 900 candidates of different political parties and independents had filed their nomination papers. In Punjab, 1880 candidates have filed their nominations for 117 seats of the Punjab Assembly for which single phase polling will be conducted on 30th of this month. Nine hundred candidates filed their nominations yesterday on the last day of nominations.

The Maximum 98 candidates filed nominations in Ludhiana district yesterday followed by Amritsar where 88 candidates filed nominations. The Election Commission has prepared a CD of 17 short films in Punjabi to make the people realise the importance of voting.  Showcasing these films, the Jalandhar District Election Officer, Priyank Bharti said in Jalandhar that the films would be telecast on Jalandhar Doordarshan, local cable networks and cinema halls. The Films would also make the people aware of anyone advertising in favour of a candidate without the concerned candidate’s permission, which is liable for legal action.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) have jointly decided to field their candidates in the ensuing Goa assembly polls slated for March 3, 2012. CPI will contest five while CPI(M) will contest two seats.

Making this announcement in Panaji on thursday CPI's Goa general secretary Mr. Christopher Fonseca said the parties have already decided names of candidates in five assembly constituencies while two are yet to be decided. In the meanwhile, Trinamool Party is also going to field candidates for which the party has invited applications from the aspirants.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today said he would not seek a vote of confidence from Parliament against the backdrop of an escalating row with the judiciary and military as his government did not want any clash between state institutions.

Gilani told this to a special session of the National Assembly or lower house of parliament that was convened by the ruling coalition after the Supreme Court warned action could be taken against the President and premier for not reopening high-profile graft cases. 

In a speech that was very critical of the opposition, Gilani said his government did not need the opposition's support to tackle the crisis caused by the apex court’s order to reopen graft cases that were scrapped under the National Reconciliation Ordinance, (NRO) a graft amnesty granted by the previous military regime. The NRO was scrapped by the apex court in 2009. The Pakistan Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing of the case relating to alleged corruption at high places in which Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari also figures. 

The court had come down heavily on Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for not taking action in such cases and threatened to take action against him. Meanwhile, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari returned home after a trip to Dubai. His departure to Dubai yesterday came amid a deepening political crisis with the military. Officials said he was there to attend a wedding.

 On Wednesday the Pakistan military had publicly rebuked Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, warning of serious ramifications after he criticised military leaders in a media interview. Mr Gilani had sacked his defence secretary, who is seen as having close ties to the military. Mr Gilani has called a meeting of the cabinet's defence committee tomorrow.

Myanmar has begun releasing more prisoners, amid expectations that a number of prominent dissidents could be among them.  The State television announced yesterday that a total of 651 prisoners would be freed under a new presidential pardon. It did not, however, mention that how many of them would be political prisoners. Myanmar has been faced with calls from the international community to free more dissidents. 

Unconfirmed reports suggest that a number of high-profile detainees could be freed. The move comes a day after the government signed a landmark ceasefire with a rebel group. The ceasefire was agreed at talks with the Karen National Union in Hpa-an, capital of eastern Karen state. The Karen have fought for greater autonomy for more than 60 years.

The Prime Minister of Japan, Mr Yoshihiko Noda has reshuffled his cabinet in an attempt to push through his plans to raise taxes for tackling the country's deepening financial crisis. Five members including two ministers responsible for a series of gaffes have been replaced. Mr Noda brought in a former Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada as Deputy Prime Minister to lead tax reforms.  Twelve posts, including finance and foreign minister, remained unchanged.

China today successfully launched the meteorological satellite Fengyun-II-07 from its southwestern Xichang Satellite Launch Center. Developed and produced by the Shanghai Academy of Space flight Technology, a subsidiary of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the orbiter will collect data for the China Meteorological Administration.

The government has formulated a scheme for construction of storage godowns through private entrepreneurs, Central Warehousing Corporation and State Warehousing Corporations. According to an official release issued in New Delhi, a capacity of about 151 lakh tonnes is to be created under the scheme in 19 states.

These include Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharastra and Kerala among others. The release further stated the scheme also offers a guarantee of ten years for assured hiring to the private entrepreneurs. Our correspondent reports, that tenders have been finalized for creation of storage capacity of 69 lakh tonnes by private entrepreneurs.

In Assam, in a bid to reduce the uses of LPG and make the maximum uses of garbage and manure, people of rural areas of the State have adopted environment friendly biogas plants. So far, more than 88 thousand families have installed biogas facilities under the National Biogas and Manure Management Programme. The plant provides clean bio-gas fuel mainly for cooking and other purposes for reducing use of conventional fuels. A report…

 "Biogas is rich in methane and can be used directly for heating purposes, cooking, lighting or power generation. It is said that, one cow can produce enough manure in a day to generate three kilowatt hours of electricity. To utilize the maximum benefits of biogas, Assam has introduced Dinabandhu plant. The plant also produces organic manure for a sustainable agriculture. M M Sharma, the Chief Conservator of Social Forestry, who is the nodal officer of the programme in the state, said that, if maintained properly, one plant can be utilized for up to 20 years. It also digests garbage. So the rural people are installing the biogas plant across the state. The government also provides subsidy to encourage more people towards this environment friendly system. In Madhya Pradesh, five percent seats of agriculture colleges will be reserved for children of farmers. Announcing this in the Students Panchayat held in Bhopal yesterday, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, agriculture education will be given importance on par with medical education in the state. He said the state government will set up a student welfare fund with an initial amount of 50 crore rupees and also constitute a Youth Commission.

This Youth Commission will work in areas of education, sports and youth welfare. Mr. Chouhan said that development cells for women will be constituted in all the colleges. Selected students across the state participated in the Students Panchayat held at the Chief Minister’s residence.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange rose 131 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 16,169 in early trade, today, on fresh buying by funds, in line with positive Asian markets. Later, after gaining further ground, the Sensex stood a good 199 points or 1.2 per cent in the positive zone, at 16,237 in afternoon trade, a short while ago.

Other Asian markets in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, and South Korea were up by between 0.3 percent and 1.1 percent, today, after a drop in Italian and Spanish borrowing costs, and the  European Central Bank's decision to keep interest rates unchanged boosted sentiment. In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 0.2 per cent, overnight.

In Kerala, the Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau has registered an FIR against Opposition leader in the Assembly and CPI (M) veteran V S Achuthanandan as an accused in the alleged allotment of government land.  Former Kerala Minister and CPI leader K P Rajendran is the second among the eight accused in the case.  The FIR will be submitted in the Vigilance Court in Kozhikode by this evening.  Our correspondent reports, it is alleged that 2.2 acres of government land in Kasargod district was allotted to an ex-servicemen related to Achuthanandan while he was Chief Minister.

Openers Ed Cowan and David Warner were at the crease. Earlier today, Australia’s decision to bowl first, paid immediate dividend as Indian batsmen yet again floundered in front of the hosts’ accurate and hostile bowling attack.

India’s shuttle queen Saina Nehwal will today lock horns with Tine Baun of Denmark in the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open Super Series Badminton tournament at Kuala Lumpur. In the pre-quarterfinals yesterday, World Number 4, Saina defeated Shao Chieh Cheng of Chinese Taipei, 21-19, 21-8, making it to the second consecutive quarterfinals, after the Korea Open, played earlier this month. Saina is the lone Indian left in this 400,000 US Dollars tournament.

The Sports Ministry has approved the foreign training of nine athletes along with their coaches under the National Sports Development Fund Scheme. These Athletes have either qualified for the upcoming London Olympics or are likely to qualify. An official release says, the training will be conducted in six countries including USA, Hungary, Germany, Kenya and South Africa. The prominent athletes are Vikas Gowda, Om Prakash Singh, Krishna Poonia, Kavita Raut and Harvant Kaur.

In Assam, a bird flu alert has been sounded in the three districts of Kamrup, Goalpara and Dhubri bordering Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills. The Director of Veterinary Department Mukti Gogoi has instructed the officials to keep poultry under observation following confirmation of bird flu in neighbouring East Garo Hills district. He said, the Goalpara Deputy Commissioner and the district veterinary department have been asked to maintain strict vigil to prevent poultry from Meghalaya from entering Assam.

In Manipur, three militants have been killed in two different encounters with police and security forces. Police sources said, one militant has been killed at around 4:30 hours this morning in an encounter at Heibongpkpi under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal.

In another encounter, a combined team of Manipur Police and Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army killed two militants last night. The incident took place at Taobungkhok under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal. The Police have recovered some arms and ammunition from the spot.

Arab League Chief Nabil El Araby said he fears a possible civil war in Syria. In an interview to a Egyptian TV Channel he said it could have ramifications for the neighbouring countries. About the feedback from the observers mission in Syria ,he said reports from the mission were worrying but the incidents of violence have come down with the presence of the observers.

The observers are expected to submit their findings to the Arab League task force on Syria on 19^th January. Syrian opposition groups say the observer’s mission has failed to deliver and it has only bought more time for the ruling regime in Syria to crush the protests. The mission comprising of 165 observers is led by Sudanese General Mohammed al-Dabi, who has come under fire from rights groups over his role in the Darfur conflict.

India has made a million dollar contribution to the United Nations' body focussed on women empowerment, reaffirming its commitment to gender equality.

India's envoy to the UN Ambassador Hardeep Singh Puri yesterday handed over the one million dollar cheque, the Indian government's contribution to the core voluntary budget of UN Women (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women). The contribution constitutes the second installment of India's multi-year pledge to provide five million dollars as funding to UN Women's resources.

The cheque was received by Michele Bachelet, Under Secretary General and Executive Director of UN Women. Mr. Puri reaffirmed India's "steadfast commitment" to the goals of gender equality, empowerment of women and gender mainstreaming enshrined in the mandate of UN Women. India is currently one of the members of the Executive Board of the UN Women, where Indian diplomat Lakshmi Puri serves as Deputy Executive Director, Intergovernmental Support and Strategic Partnerships Bureau and Assistant Secretary-General.

सरकार ने आज विभिन्न वर्गों के बीच द्वेष को बढ़ावा देने और राष्ट्रीय एकता को कमजोर करने के आरोप में इक्कीस सोशल नेटवर्किंग वेबसाइटों के खिलाफ मुकदमा चलाने की मंजूरी दी। अपनी रिपोर्ट में सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग ने दिल्ली की एक अदालत को बताया कि उनके खिलाफ मुकदमा चलाने के लिए पर्याप्त सामग्री है। इक्कीस नेटवर्किंग साइटों में फेसबुक, गुगल, याहू और माइक्रोसॉट शामिल हैं। अदालत द्वारा विदेश स्थित कंपनियों को सम्मन जारी करने के लिए विदेश मंत्रालय को निर्देश देने के बाद दो पृष्ठों की रिपोर्ट पेश की गई। सम्मन २३ दिसंबर को जारी किए गए थे, लेकिन तामील नहीं हो सके थे।
अदालत ने २३ दिसंबर को आपराधिक साजिश करने, अश्लील पुस्तकों की बिक्री और युवाओं में अश्लील सामग्री बेचने के आरोप में इक्कीस सोशल नेटवर्किंग वेबसाइटों को सम्मन जारी किए गए थे।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने केंद्र सरकार से सभी सरकारी स्कूलों में, खासतौर से बालिकाओं के वास्ते शौचालय के निर्माण के लिए राज्यों और केंद्रशासित प्रदेशों को धन उपलब्ध कराने को कहा है। न्यायालय ने कहा कि शौचालय का अभाव बच्चों को मुत और अनिवार्य शिक्षा उपलब्ध कराने के रास्ते में बाधा बन रहा है। न्यायालय ने यह आदेश इस बारे में राज्यों द्वारा दायर हलफनामे को देखने के बाद जारी किया। कुछ राज्य सरकारों ने केंद्र से वित्तीय सहायता की मांग की थी।
उच्चतम न्यायालय ने अपने पहले के आदेश में कहा था कि सभी स्कूलों में शौचालय की सुविधा अनिवार्य है, क्योंकि पाया गया है कि अभिभावक उन स्कूलों में अपने बच्चों को भेजना नहीं चाहते हैं, जहां शौचालय की सुविधा नहीं है।

केंद्रीय सतर्कता आयोग-सी.वी.सी. ने सरकारी विभागों से पारदर्शिता सुनिश्चित करने और भ्रष्टाचार रोकने वास्ते खामियों को दूर करने के लिए इलेक्ट्रॉनिक खरीद प्रणाली की सुरक्षा को मजबूत करने को कहा है। सी.वी.सी. ने केंद्र सरकार के सभी विभागों और सार्वजनिक कंपनियों को इस बारे में सूचना टेक्नोलॉजी विभाग से सुरक्षा प्रमाण-पत्र हासिल करने की सलाह दी है।

केरल में सतर्कता और भ्रष्टाचार निरोधी ब्यूरो ने विधानसभा में विपक्ष के नेता वी.एस. अच्युतानंदन के खिलाफ कोझीकोड सतर्कता अदालत में एफ.आई.आर. दायर की। आरोप है कि श्री अच्युतानंदन के मुख्यमंत्री कार्यकाल में उनके एक संबंधी को कासरगोड जिले में दो दशमलव तीन-तीन एकड़ राजस्व भूमि का आबंटन किया गया था।

तमिलनाडु में सतर्कता और भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक निदेशालय के अधिकारियों ने तमिलनाडु लोक सेवा आयोग की नियुक्तियों में कथित अनियमितताओं के सिलसिले मे आज चौथी बार राज्य के ७० से अधिक स्थानों पर छापे मारे। निदेशालय के सूत्रों ने बताया कि ये छापे आयोग की विभिन्न परीक्षाओं में हिस्सा लेने वाले प्रत्याशियों के परिसरों पर मारे गये।

सी बी आई ने भंवरी देवी अपहरण और हत्या मामले को सुलझाने में राजस्थान पुलिस और महाराष्ट्र पुलिस के प्रयासों की सराहना की है। नई दिल्ली में एक समारोह में सी बी आई निदेशक ए पी सिंह ने आपराधिक मामलों को सुलझाने में विभिन्न राज्यों की पुलिस और सी बी आई के बीच गहरे समन्वय की जरूरत बताई है। सी बी आई ने भंवरीदेवी मामले को सुलझाने में सहयोग देने के लिए राजस्थान पुलिस को चार लाख रूपये और महाराष्ट्र पुलिस को एक लाख रूपये का नकद पुरस्कार दिया है। सी बी आई प्रवक्ता धारिणी मिश्रा ने कहा कि भंवरीदेवी के परिवार वालों को भी डेढ़ लाख रूपये दिये जायेंगे।

उत्तरप्रदेश में विधानसभा चुनाव के पहले चरण के लिए आज २८ नामांकन पत्र भरे गये। इनमें बहुजन समाज पार्टी के नौ, समाजवादी पार्टी के चार, भाजपा के तीन और कांगे्रस के दो नामांकन पत्र शामिल हैं। दो नामांकन पत्र कल भरे गये थे।
हमारे लखनऊ संवाददाता ने बताया है कि पहले चरण में आठ फरवरी को अवध और पूर्वी क्षेत्रों के ५५ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में वोट डाले जायेंगे।

मणिपुर में कुकी उग्रवादियों को आगामी विधानसभा चुनाव में किसी भी राजनीतिक पार्टी या उम्मीदवार का समर्थन नहीं करने की सलाह दी गई है। कुकी उग्रवादियों का कार्रवाई स्थगित रखने के लिए सरकार के साथ समझौता है। समझौते पर गठित संयुक्त निगरानी दल की बैठक में यह सलाह दी गई। निगरानी दल में केंद्र और राज्य सरकार के अधिकारी तथा कुकी उग्रवादी गुटों के प्रतिनिधि शामिल हैं।

चारों तरफ से घिरी पाकिस्तान सरकार के लिए समर्थन जुटाने के वास्ते आज पार्लियामेंट में एक प्रस्ताव पेश किया गया। प्रस्ताव पेश करते हुए अवामी नेशनल पार्टी के प्रमुख असफानदियार वली खान ने लोकतंत्र को मजबूत करने के लिए राजनीतिक नेतृत्व द्वारा किये गये प्रयासों को संसद से समर्थन देने का आग्रह किया। उन्होंने नेतृत्व में पूरा विश्वास प्रकट करने की भी अपील की।
यह प्रस्ताव संसद के निचले सदन नेशनल असेंबली के विशेष अधिवेशन के दूसरे दिन पेश किया गया। पाकिस्तान पीपुल्स पार्टी के नेतृत्व वाले गठबंधन ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा प्रधानमंत्री युसुफ रजा गिलानी को दी गयी चेतावनी पर विचार विमर्श के लिए असेंबली का विशेष सत्र बुलाया है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने प्रधानमंत्री को चेतावनी दी थी कि यदि राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी के खिलाफ भ्रष्टाचार के मामले नहीं खोले गये तो उन्हें अयोग्य घोषित किया जा सकता है।
आशा है कि नेशनल असेंबली में इस प्रस्ताव पर सोमवार को मतदान होगा। उसी दिन सुप्रीम कोर्ट श्री जरदारी द्वारा स्विटरजरलैंड में कथित रूप से पैसा जमा करने के मामले को खोलने पर सुनवाई करेगा।
सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा बनाया गया आयोग सोमवार को ही मेमोगेट मामले पर आगे की कार्रवाई शुरू करेगा। मेमो के जरिए पिछले साल मई में ओसामा बिन लादेन की हत्या के बाद पाकिस्तान में सैनिक विद्रोह की आशंका को रोकने के लिए अमरीका से मदद मांगी गयी थी।

भारत और नॉर्वे ने स्थानीय प्रशासन को मजबूत करने के लिए आपसी सहयोग बढ़ाने का फैसला किया है। आज नई दिल्ली में नॉर्वे के स्थानीय प्रशासन की मंत्री लिव सिंगे नवारसते के साथ संयुक्त संवाददाता सम्मेलन में पंचायतीराज मंत्री किशोरचंद्र देव ने कहा कि भारत स्थानीय प्रशासन में नॉर्वे के अनुभव से बहुत कुछ सीख सकता है।
नॉर्वे की मंत्री ने कहा कि महिला सशक्तिकरण के क्षेत्र में दोनों देश मिलकर काम कर सकते हैं।
एक प्रश्न के उत्तर में सुश्री नवारसते ने कहा कि दोनों देश ऊर्जा और शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में सहयोग कर लाभ उठा सकते हैं।

भारत और जापान ने एक उच्चस्तरीय कार्यदल बनाने का फैसला किया है, जो देश में हाई स्पीड रेल कोरिडोर बनाने से जुड़े विभिन्न मुद्दों की जांच करेगा। यह फैसला आज नई दिल्ली में रेल मंत्री दिनेश त्रिवेदी और जापान के भूमि ढांचे, परिवहन और पर्यटन मंत्री ताकेशी मायेदा के बीच बैठक में किया गया। श्री त्रिवेदी ने देश और इसकी अर्थ व्यवस्था के लिये तेज गति की रेलगाडियों के महत्व पर जोर देते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने इस बारे में प्रधानमंत्री डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह और जापान के प्रधानमंत्री से बातचीत की है और वे दोनों परियोजना के बारे में काफी गंभीर हैं।

ईरान ने कहा है कि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय परमाणु ऊर्जा एजेंसी के तहत वह संयुक्तराष्ट्र जांच दल को अपने यहां आने देगा, ताकि परमाणु कार्यक्रम के बारे में उठाई जा रही आपत्तियों पर बातचीत हो सके। इस सिलसिले में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय परमाणु ऊर्जा एजेंसी के एक उच्चस्तरीय दल के २८ जनवरी के आसपास तेहरान जाने की संभावना है।

बाम्बे स्टाक एक्सचेंज का सेंसेक्स आज ११७ अंक की बढ़त के साथ १६ हजार १५५ पर बंद हुआ। नेशनल स्टाक का निफ्‌टी भी ३५ अंक बढ़कर ४ हजार ८६६ पर बंद हुआ। ज्यादातर एशियाई और यूरोपीय बाजारों में भी आज बढ़त रही।
डॉलर के मुकाबले रूपया ९ पैसे मजबूत हुआ। एक डॉलर की कीमत रही ५१ रूपये ५२ पैसे।
सोने की कीमतें २२० रूपये की गिरावट के साथ प्रति दस ग्राम २७ हजार ८४० रूपये रही। चांदी की कीमतों में भी चार सौ रूपये की गिरावट रही। एक किलो चांदी खरीदने के लिए ५२ हजार चार सौ रूपये देने पड़े।
अमरीकी क्रूड सात सेंट बढ़ा और प्रति बैरल ९९ डॉलर १७ सेंट पर पहुंच गया, जबकि बे्रंट की कीमत प्रति बैरल १११ डॉलर रही।

The Government today granted sanction to prosecute 21 social networking sites for allegedly promoting enmity between classes and causing prejudice to national integration. The Department of Information Technology, in its report, told a Delhi court that there is sufficient material to proceed against them. Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft are among the 21 networking websites to be prosecuted.

The two-page report was placed after the court directed the Ministry of External Affairs to get the summons served on over ten foreign-based companies. The summons were issued on December 23 last but they remained unserved. The court had on December 23 issued summons to 21 social networking websites for allegedly committing offences of criminal conspiracy, sale of obscene books and sale of obscene objects to young persons.

The Supreme Court today asked the Centre to ensure availability of funds with state governments and union territories for construction of toilets, specially for girls, in all government schools. It said the absence of toilets has been coming in the way of providing free and compulsory education to children.

The orders were issued by the apex court after perusing the affidavits filed by the states about the progress of the work. Some states sought financial assistance from the Centre. In its previous order, the apex court had said it is imperative that all schools must provide toilet facilities as empirical researches have indicated that wherever toilet facilities are not provided in schools, parents do not send their children to schools.

The Central Vigilance Commission, CVC, has asked government departments to strengthen security of e-procurement system to ensure transparency and plug-in loopholes to check corruption.

The anti-corruption watchdog has also asked all central government departments and public sector enterprises among others to get a safety certificate from the Department of Information Technology, in this regard. The CVC in a recent directive has advised all departments to comply with the quality guidelines for certification of e-procurement system.

In Tamil Nadu, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption DVAC, officials today conducted raids at over 70 places across the state in its fourth round of searches in connection with alleged irregularities in appointments made by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission TNPSC. DVAC sources said, the searches were carried out at the premises of candidates who had appeared for various exams conducted by the TNPSC.

The Delhi High Court today reserved its verdict on former Telecom Minister A Raja's erstwhile Private Secretary R K Chandolia's plea in the 2G spectrum allocation case . The plea seeks discharging Chandolia from the case on the ground of the sanction to prosecute him being allegedly illegal and invalid. After hearing arguments on behalf of the CBI and the counsel for Chandolia, the court reserved the judgement.

The CBI today lauded the efforts of the Rajasthan Police and Maharastra Police in cracking the Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case. At a felicitation ceremony held in New Delhi, CBI Director A P Singh stressed the need for close coordination between various State Police and the CBI to crack criminal cases.

The CBI rewarded cash prizes worth four lakh rupees to the Rajasthan Police and one lakh to the Maharastra Police for their cooperation in solving the case. In Uttarakhand, about 20 nomination papers were rejected in the scrutiny today in the run up to the elections to 70 Assembly seats of the state. In Uttar Pradesh, 28 nomination papers have been filed today for the first phase of assembly elections. 55 constituencies spread over ten districts of Awadh and Eastern regions of the state are going for poll in this phase. Our Lucknow correspondent reports that NINE candidates from the Ruling BSP, four from SP, 3 from the BJP and two from the Congress filed nominations today.

A resolution was introduced in the Pakistan Parliament today seeking support for the beleaguered government. The resolution, moved by Awami National Party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, sought the endorsement and support of parliament for efforts made by the political leadership for strengthening democracy. It also called for reposing full confidence and trust in the leadership. The resolution was moved on the second day of a special session of the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament.

The assembly was convened by the Pakistan People's Party-led coalition to discuss the Supreme Court's warning that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani could be disqualified if he failed to revive corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. The National Assembly is expected to vote on the resolution on Monday.

On the same day the Supreme court will resume hearing of the case for reopening cases of alleged money laundering against Zardari in Switzerland. On Monday, a Supreme Court-appointed commission will also resume its proceedings on the alleged memo that had sought US help to stave off a feared coup in Pakistan after the killing of Osama bin Laden in May last year.

Iran says it will allow the visit of the UN inspectors under the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency , IAEA to discuss the concerns about its nuclear program. "Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA said the talks would be aimed at resolving the issue. The reference is often used by Teheran towards its nuclear program. India’s ace shooter Abhinav Bindra today bagged a Gold medal in the Men’s 10-metre Air Rifle event at the 12th Asian Shooting Championships in Doha. Abhinav, the 29-year old Olympic Gold Medallist, amassed a total of 701.1 points, 0.3 points more than China’s Qinan Zhu, who finished second. The third place also went to China, with Tao Wang scoring a total of 699.9 points. Another Indian Gagan Narang finished fourth with 698.2 points.
