नाइजीरिया में सिलसिलेवार बम हमलों में १६२ लोग मारे गए और अनेक घायल हो गए। हमलावरों ने मुस्लिम बहुल कानो उत्तरी शहर में खुफिया पुलिस मुख्यालय और पुलिस थाने को निशाना बनाया। कानो में अस्पताल के डॉक्टर ने बताया कि घायलों में भारतीय सहित कुछ विदेशी भी हैं जो राज्य के सुरक्षा सेवा मुख्यालय के आसपास रहते हैं। इस्लामी ग्रुप बोको हरम ने इन विस्फोटों की जिम्मेदारी लेते हुए कहा है कि नाइजीरिया के अधिकारियों ने संगठन के सदस्यों को रिहा नहीं किया, इसलिए ये हमले किये गए हैं। करीब बीस बम विस्फोटों के बाद शहर के पूर्वी बॉमपेई जिले में उग्रवादियों और सुरक्षा बलों के बीच गोलीबारी भी हुई। पुलिसकर्मियों सहित अनेक शव मिलने के बाद कानो प्रांत के गवर्नर राबियू क्वांकवासो ने २४ घंटे का कर्यू लगा दिया है।-----
सीरिया पर अरब देशों के विदेश मंत्रियों के कार्य बल की आज काहिरा में बैठक होगी, जिसमें भविष्य की कार्रवाई पर चर्चा की जाएगी। २२ सदस्यों का कार्यबल इस बात पर निर्णय लेगा कि क्या सीरिया में एक महीने से मौजूद पर्यवेक्षक मिशन को अभी जारी रखा जाए या नहीं।करीब एक महीना पहले सीरिया गए अरब लीग के पर्यवेक्षक मिशन के प्रमुख सुडान के जनरल मुस्तफा अल दावी अपनी रिपोर्ट अरब लीग के मंत्रियों के कार्यदल को सौंपेंगे। रिपोर्ट में सीरिया गए १६५ अरब पर्यवेक्षकों का आकलन है कि सीरिया सरकार ने अरब लीग के शांति समझौते का पालन किया है या नहीं। मिशन के सदस्य १७ अलग-अलग शहरों में गए और उन्होंने लोगों और विपक्षी गुटों से मुलाकात की। मिशन की टीम अस्पतालों और जेलों में गई और वहां जाकर हालात का जायजा लिया। अतुल तिवारी, आकाशवाणी समाचार, दुबई।''

मिस्र में संसद के निचले सदन के चुनाव में लगभग आधी सीटें मुस्लिम ब्रदरहुड के नेतृत्व में इस्लामी दलों को मिली है। मिस्र के निर्वाचन आयोग ने कल परिणामों की घोषणा की। निर्वाचन आयोग के प्रमुख अब्दल मोएज+ इब्राहिम ने काहिरा में बताया कि ४९८ सदस्यों वाली पीपल्स असेम्बली में फ्रीडम एण्ड जस्टिस पार्टी-एफजेपी को २३५ सीटें मिली हैं, जो कुल सीटों का लगभग ४७ प्रतिशत है। कट्टरपंथी सलाफिस्त अल नूर पार्टी को १२१ सीटें मिली हैं और वह दूसरे स्थान पर है। मुबारक सरकार के तख्तापलट के बाद मिस्र में पहले स्वतंत्र चुनाव नवम्बर में शुरू हो कर तीन चरणों में सम्पन्न हुए। पीपुल्स असेम्बली का पहला सत्र कल शुरू होगा। नये राष्ट्रपति का चुनाव जून तक कर लिया जाएगा।-----

निर्वाचन आयोग ने उत्तराखंड में जिला अधिकारियों से कहा है कि वे चुंगी चौकियों में चुनाव सामग्री की जांच व्यावहारिक तरीके से करें। राज्य की मुख्य चुनाव अधिकारी राधा रतुड़ी ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि राजनीतिक दलों ने शिकायत की है कि चुंगी चौकियों में चुनाव सामग्री रोकी जा रही है, जिससे प्रचार अभियान में रुकावट आ रही है। ब्यौरा हमारे संवाददाता से -श्रीमती रतूड़ी के अनुसार उन्होंने उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी से कहा है कि वे अधिकारियों को उत्तराखंड से लगने वाली जांच चौकियों पर चुनाव प्रचार सामग्रियों की जांच में व्यवहारिक होने के लिए कहें। प्राप्त सूचना के अनुसार प्रदेश में ज्यादातर चुनाव प्रचार सामग्री सहारनपुर और दिल्ली से आती है। इस बीच, श्रीमती रतूड़ी ने सभी राजनीतिक दलों और उम्मीदवारों से चुनाव प्रचार सामग्री में प्लास्टिक और पोलिथिन का उपयोग न करने के भी निर्देश दिए हैं। उन्होंने कहा है कि इसके उल्लंघन पर सजा का प्रावधान है। राघवेश पांडेय, आकाशवाणी समाचार, देहरादून।''

उत्तर प्रदेश में चुनावी सरगर्मियों के बीच तीसरे चरण के मतदान के लिए कल नामांकन भरने का काम शुरू हुआ। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि इस चरण में १० जिलों के ५६ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में १५ फरवरी को वोट डाले जाएंगे।राज्य में पहले तीन चरणों वाले चुनाव क्षेत्रों में नामांकन से जुड़ी गतिविधियां चरम पर हैं। दूसरे चरण के चुनाव के लिए नामांकन दाखिल करने के लिए मात्र एक दिन बचा है और अब तक नौ जिलों के ५९ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों के लिए ७८८ नामांकन पत्र दाखिल हो चुके हैं। पहले चरण के लिए नाम वापसी की २३ जनवरी अंतिम तारीख है। ११ उम्मीदवार अपना नाम वापस ले चुके हैं, जबकि ६२ जांच के दौरान रद्द कर दिए गए हैं। ५५ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में ९२८ उम्मीदवार अभी भी मैदान में हैं। पहले चरण के लिए ८ फरवरी को मतदान होना है। सुनील शुक्ल, आकाशवाणी समाचार, लखनऊ।''

नियंत्रक और महालेखा परीक्षक-कैग ने राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन-एन आर एच एम में लगभग पचास अरब+ रूपये की गड़बड़ियों के लिए उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार को जिम्मेदार ठहराया है। समाचार एजेंसी पीटीआई के अनुसार राज्यपाल को सौंपी रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि कैग ने राज्य के लगभग २४ जिलों में इस योजना में गड़बड़ी पायी। रिपोर्ट में यह भी कहा गया है कि राज्य को दिए गए ८६ अरब ५७ करोड़ रूपये में से लगभग पचास अरब रूपये के खर्च का उचित ब्यौरा देने में राज्य स्वाथ्य विभाग विफल रहा है। इस घोटाले की सी बी आई से जांच की बढ़ती मांग के बीच पिछले साल अगस्त में उत्तर प्रदेश के मुख्य सचिव के आग्रह पर कैग ने यह जांच की। -----
झारखंड में कल गढ़वा जिले के सालों जंगल में माओवादियों द्वारा बिछाई गई बारूदी सुरंग फटने से भंडारिया पुलिस थाने के प्रभारी आर बी चौधरी समेत तेरह पुलिसकर्मी मारे गए। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि इस घटना के बाद माओवादियों ने नजदीकी इलाके से चार लोगों का अपहरण कर लिया।कल के नक्सली हमलों ने राज्य के सुरक्षातंत्र को झकझोड़ कर रख दिया है। विस्फोट के बाद घायल ११ पुलिसकर्मियों को नजदीक से गोली मारी गई, जबकि थाना इंचार्ज एवं उनके ड्राइवर को जिंदा जला दिया गया था। घटनास्थल के समीप से माओवादियों ने स्थानीय जिला परिषद अध्यक्ष सुषमा मेहता समेत चार का अपहरण भी कर लिया है। इस हमले ने सुरक्षातंत्र के सामने यह सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं कि माओवादियों के पास वैसे साधन अब भी कैसे हैं जिससे वे इस प्रकार की घटना को अंजाम देकर सबको चकित कर सकें। राजेश सिन्हा, आकाशवाणी समाचार, रांची।''

In Nigeria, at least 162 people were killed and several others injured in a series of coordinated bomb attacks in the Muslim dominated northern city of Kano , Nigeria's second-largest city. A doctor at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital said some of the injured persons were foreigners, including Indians who live close to the State Security Service headquarters. Islamist group Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying it was in response to Nigerian authorities' refusal to release its members from custody. The bombings which numbered upto 20 caused pandemonium in the metropolis and were followed by shoot-outs between the militants and security agencies especially at the eastern Bompai district of the city. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Governor of Kano State, has imposed a 24-hour curfew after the bodies, including those of several policemen, were found scattered all over.

The Prime Minister has called upon all political parties to rise above narrow considerations and cooperate in bringing about a strong Lok Pal. Addressing a rally at Amritsar, he said, corruption is a serious problem requiring a multi-dimensional response. The Prime Minister reiterate his government's commitment to deal with corruption in an effective manner and committed to bring a strong Lokpal. The Lok Pal Bill was even passed in the Lok Sabha but got stuck in the Rajya Sabha. Therefore all parties should cooperate to achieve this.

Home Minister P Chidambaram handed over the first lot of resident identity cards to villagers of Prothrapur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The cards having their details in microchips, is an initiative, aimed at boosting maritime security. These smart cards are part of the Centre's ambitious National Population Register, NPR scheme. Under the scheme, residents of coastal areas in nine maritime states and Union Territories who have attained the age of 18 years will be issued a smart card.

The Controller and Auditor General, CAG has indicted the Uttar Pradesh Government of anomalies in spending around 5,000 crore rupees under the National Rural Health Mission - NRHM. According to PTI, the CAG probing the NRHM scam, has submitted its report to the State Governor, saying it has found anomalies under the scheme in about two dozen districts of the state. The CAG says, the state health department failed to give proper details of spending of about 5,000 crore rupees out of the 8,657 crore rupees given to the state. The entire amount was reportedly transferred through a non registered society. Contracts worth 1,170 crore rupees were given against the open tendering process and agreements flouted established norms. Only one officer of the Principal Secretary rank was making all crucial purchase decisions while the rules suggest that three officers of this rank should be the part of the decision making body. The report is yet to be disclosed officially.

In Uttar Pradesh, the filing of nominations has gained momentum for the first three phases of assembly polls. Our Correspondent reports that a day is left for nomination for the second phase of Assembly elections and total of 788 nominations have been filed till now.
"A total of 59 constituencies spread over nine districts would go for poll in this phase. Tomorrow is last date for withdrawal for nominations for first phase of elections and a total of 928 candidates are in fray. 11, most of the independent, have withdrawn their nominations. 62 papers have been rejected in scrutiny. Nominations for third phase of elections has begun and 18 candidates including 3 from Congress and one each from BJP, BSP and Samajwadi Party candidates have filed their papers on first day of nominations. The Election Commission has asked district authorities in Uttarakhand to be more pragmatic and practical in checking electioneering material at check posts. State Chief Electoral Officer Radha Raturi told AIR that political parties have complained that electioneering material is being held up at various check post which is affecting their campaign. Our correspondent reports:
"According to the Chief Election officer, she has had talks with the counterpart in Uttar Pradesh to advise the officers to be more practical in checking illicit materials on the side of the border with Uttarakhand. As per reports most of the materials are coming from Delhi and Kanpur. She also directed all the national state political parties to avoid the use of polythene and plastic in their publicity material for the coming poll. In Punjab, 5 officials have been suspended and five have been transferred following complaints against them for violation of the model code of conduct. The suspended officers include one executive engineer, one SDO and a police official. Our correspondent reports that political parties are using different means to reach the voters.
"Only seven days are there for open conversing so all political parties and candidates are trying to reach upto maximum voters. Although campaign is reaching to its pick but banners, hoardings, slogans and posters on walls are not seen. Rallies are arranged only on the visit of star campaigner. Yesterday, national leaders of political parties addressed the rallies. Everything is going on peacefully. Candidates and parties are using facebook, twitter and internet to convey their agenda. The cold wave sweeping north India showed no signs of relenting as temperatures settled below normal levels at most places.

Six people including four foreign tourists were injured in an avalanche in the Gulmarg skiing resort in north Kashmir's Baramulla district yesterday.
Meanwhile, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been reopened for one way traffic.
Severe cold wave conditions prevailed in Himachal Pradesh as the minimum temperature dropped by a few notches after fresh snowfall and rain in various parts of the state. Shimla, which received 2.8 cm of snow, shivered at minus 1.2 deg C.
Bone chilling winds along with dense fog continued to affect normal life in Punjab and Haryana. A thick blanket of fog engulfed several places in both the states affecting road and rail traffic.
In the national capital, the maximum temperature was recorded at 18.6 degree C, two notches below normal.
Cold wave is sweeping northern and eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh. It has affected normal life in the region forcing people indoors. A report from our correspondent:
One person died in Indore due to extreme cold as temperature plummetted to 5.4 degree celsius on Saturday. Weather office has attributed the cold wave to the La-Nina effect and forecast further drop in the temperature. In Panchmarhi, the temperature plummetted to sub-zero at minus one degree celsius while Hosangabad experienced one degree celsius. In Egypt, Islamist parties led by Muslim Brotherhood have bagged nearly half of seats in elections for the lower house of Parliament. The Egyptian Election Commission officially announced the results yesterday. Chief of the Election Commission Abdel Moez Ibrahim told a press conference in Cairo that in the 498 member Peoples Assembly, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) won 235 seats, which is around 47 percent. It was the first free election in Egypt after the overthrow of Mubarak regime which began in November and was carried out in three stages. The People’s Assembly, will hold its first session tomorrow.

The Arab Foreign Minister’s task force on Syria will meet in Cairo today to decide its future course of action. The 22 member bloc is expected to take a call on whether to prolong its month long observers mission in Syria. Our West Asia correspondent has filed this report:
"The head of the Arab League observer mission, General Mustafa al-Dabi of Sudan, will present the mission’s report to Arab Foreign Ministers. The report is based on inputs from 165 member strong Arab observers team from 17 different cities in Syria. The team went to hospitals, prisons, troubled spots and interacted with different parties and organizations to firm up its final report. There are indications that the Arab Observers Mission may be extended by another month. Syria had signed the peace plan with Arab League to end the violence in the country. The plan called for an end to crackdown on protesters, removal of tanks from the towns and streets, release of political prisoners, initiation of dialogue with opposition and to allow Arab observers mission to monitor the situation in the country. An Indian was killed in terror attacks in the Nigerian city of Kano that left about 162 people dead. Another six Indians including two children were injured in the attacks. The High Commission of India in Abuja identified the dead Indian as 23-year-old Kevalkumar Kalidas Rajput, who hailed from Gujarat.
The injured Indians belong to two families who were hit by falling shrapnel and debris. They are being treated in Kano hospitals. The attacks are believed to be the work of members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
Hundreds of Nigerian troops have been deployed at major streets in northern Kano to enhance security following the multiple explosions in the city. Armed soldiers had also been deployed at some strategic public and private buildings in the metropolis to prevent possible attacks.
Spokesperson for Boko Haram Abul Qaqa told reporters that the attacks were in response to the refusal of the Kano State government to release some fellow terrorists who had been arrested in the state.

In Manipur, political campaign for the ensuing state assembly elections has reached its peak. Leaders of various political parties are campaigning for their party candidates in public meetings at different places in the poll bound state. Here is a report from our Imphal Correspondent.
"With the arrival of political heavyweights in the poll bound state,election campaign has hit the highest point. BJP General Secretary Kiran Maheswori addressed two public meetings in Imphal today. Naga People’s Front leader and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also addressed public meetings in the hill districts of Chandel and Ukhrul while NCP General Secretary P A Sangma campaigned for his party candidates in Ukhrul yesterday. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress Spokesperson Derek O Brien has released the party’s election manifesto this afternoon at Imphal. As the election date in the poll bound state of Punjab is getting closer, the electioneering in main border districts has also started gaining momentum. Candidates from SAD-BJP alliance, Congress, People’s Party of Punjab, BSP and Independents are reaching out to the voters of Ferozepur, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts either through ‘nukkad meetings’ or through door-to-door campaigning.
"In these border districts the main contest is between SAD-BJP and Congress but Independents would also play an important role especially those who have rebelled. Candidates are reaching out to almost each and every village nearing border to woo voters.Being border districts, the police and BSF is also on alert to keep a check on use of drugs and money to woo voters. In this week only two consignments of 32 kilograms of Heroin and lakhs of fake Indian currency notes have been seized by BSF from Amritsar and Ferozepur districts.As the basic problem in these border districts is development in villages near the border and infrastructure, it would be interesting to see which party would be able to win the voters’ confidence. Even as cold wave is sweeping the hill state of Uttarakhand, election campaigning has increased political temperature in the poll bound state. More from our correspondent:-
"Political leaders are apparently spending more time in the plain areas of state since six seats have been increased in the four plain districts of the state of dellimitation including Dehradun, Haridwar, Naintal and Udham Singh Nagar districts. Overall nine hilly districts share 34 assembly seats whereas remaining 36 seats are spread in four districts. Meanwhile star campaigners of Congress, BJP and other political parties are touring in the state, in a bid to woo voters. Raghwesh Pandey, AIR Correspondent, Dehradun."
In Uttar Pradesh, several prominent leaders filed their nominations yesterday for the third phase of assembly elections. Minister in Mayawati cabinet Jagdish Narain Rai filed his papers from Zafrabad seat in Jaunpur district.
As many as 44 nomination papers have been filed in Jaunpur, Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj Nagar, Chandauli and Kaushabmi districts. Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports, several seats in Varanasi, Allahabad and Sultanpur districts are prestigious for ruling BSP and the opposition. The election for the third phase will be held on 15th February.
Meanwhile, the election commission has begun review meetings in first phase areas. The state's Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha held a meeting with poll related administrative and police officials of ten districts in Faizabad and instructed them to conduct free and fair elections.

The Congress Party in Goa has decided to announce the first list of candidates for the ensuing state assembly polls next week. According to Goa Pradesh Congress committee President Subhash Shirodker the Party's screening committee would meet on January 24 in New Delhi to recommend the names of Party candidates and the central election committee could meet the next day to give its approval and send the list for the final approval of the Party President. He said, the party in a seat sharing agreement will allot 6-7 seats to NCP after talks with that party for a pre poll alliance. The congress is also having talks with the MGP for forming an alliance with that party, he added.

Twenty three tableaux showcasing the country's military might, varied cultural diversity, economic progress and development in science and technology will be part of this year's Republic Day Parade. While 13 tableaux will highlight the diverse culture and traditions of various States, ten tableaux will showcase the main functioning and achievements of the Union Ministries and departments.
For the first time, the Election Commission will have a tableau featuring a huge model of the Electronic Voting Machine and banners urging youngsters to vote. The Indian Air Force will also have a special tableau with the theme 'People first mission always'.
The IAF tableaux will showcase the C-130J Super Hercules, the World's most advanced and tactical aircraft and the forces' latest acquisition in the IAF-Mi-17 V5 Helicopter. The other Ministries that will showcase their tableaux include Textile, Human Resource Development, Tribal Affairs, Railways, Steel and Agriculture.

Jharkhand DGP G S Rath has said that yesterday's massacre of 13 policemen by the Maoists in Garhwa has only strengthened the resolve of policemen further to fight and finish the left terrorism.
Mr. Rath was speaking to media at Garhwa where he said that cooperation from Chhatisgarh is being sought to nab the perpetrators of yesterday's killings as the area where the incident took place is near Jharkhand - Chhatisgarh border. A Report:

In Bihar, security forces have arrested a maoist area commander at Rampurlakh village under the Natwar police station of Rohtas district of the state. The arrested area commander identified as Chandan Kumar confessed his involvement of large number of crimes over the past 20 years. The police have recovered one rifle, two pistols, one carbine and dozen live cartridges from his possession. Security forces are continuing combing operation and long range patrolling in the Maoists affected areas in the state.

In Assam, stage is all set for en-mass surrender of nine insurgent groups before the Republic Day at Guwahati on 24th January. The militants will lay down their arms in the presence of the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
The outfits to lay down arms include - All Adivsasi National Liberation Army, Adivasi Cobra Militant of Assam, Birsa Commando Force, Santhal Tigers’ Forum, Adivasi People’s Army, Kuki Liberation Army, United Kukigram Defence Army, Kuki Revolutionary Army and the Hmar People’s Convention.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the State following boycott call of Republic Day functions and bandh calls by several militant groups of the North-East, including the banned ULFA. The Chief Minister reviewed the security scenario of the State with the Director General of Police Jayanta Narayan Choudhury.
The North East Frontier Railway has cancelled several passenger trains between Alipurduar and Dibrugarh town due to security reasons in the run up to the Republic Day celebrations in the State. Security pilot trains have also been pressed into service ahead of all express trains, including the Rajdhani Express.

Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, PAC has asked Air India to submit all documents related to its merger and fleet acquisition within a week. Top officials of Air India and erstwhile Indian Airlines faced some tough questioning by the Parliamentary panel which also slammed them over complaints of poor passenger services.
The grilling was based on a recent CAG report on Civil Aviation which had said that the decision to acquire 111 planes by Air India through debt was a recipe for disaster and should have raised an alarm in the government. Air India officials told the PAC that it was their idea to merge the two carriers as the open sky policy had increased competition in the aviation sector.
They also said that since their fleet at that time was aging, they had thought of acquiring new planes and believed that merger will provide them greater strength to compete in the new environment.

"Temperatures continue to slide at most parts in the state under the impact of northern winds. Mandla remained the coldest place in the state today with the minimum temperature of 0.6 degree Celsius. Minimum temperature of below two degrees was recorded at Umaria, Datia, Naugaon, Damoh and Malajkhand. Despite a holyday today, people are preferring to stay at homes due to the biting cold. Delhites continue to shiver under biting cold with the mercury hovering a few degrees below normal in the national capital. The minimum temperature this morning was a notch below average at 6.8 degree Celsius, while the maximum yesterday was three notches below normal at 18.4 degree Celsius.
However, after witnessing a bright sunny day yesterday, the city today got respite from fog. According to the Met department, the mercury is likely to oscillate between 17 and 7 degree Celsius today and a blanket of fog is likely to engulf the capital tomorrow morning.

Vice President Hamid Ansari has stressed the need for greater understanding among people of different nations through dialogues, discussions and debates. Addressing the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the India International Centre in New Delhi today, Mr Ansari said that there should be a fine balance between justice, democracy, human rights and good governance at the global level.
He said that cultivation of tolerance and acceptance of diversity among people are the most important needs of the hour. The Vice President lauded the India International Centre for acting as a platform for pooling of ideas and models from different countries across the world over the last fifty years.

In Foreign News, The Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmad Bin Hali said in Cairo that the report of the head of the Arab League observer mission, General Mohammad al-Dabi was handed over to the Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi. The report has been circulated to the Arab countries for a discussion at the Arab Ministerial Committee on Syria in Cairo.
It will be presented to the Arab Foreign Ministers later today. In a press statement, Bin Hali said the report is the summary of the observer mission's work during 14th December 2011 to 16th January 2012.
Meanwhile, the head of the Arab League Observer’s Mission in Syria, the Sudanese General Mustafa Al Dabi said the observers' teams deployed in Syrian cities got cooperation from the Syrian side which shows that the mission is doing professional and objective work. General Dabi stated that the observers' task is to verify the implementation of the Arab League peace plan by the Syrian government to resolve the crisis.
Syrian Arab News Agency has reported that the Arab League observers team in Syria visited the Damascus Suburbs of Al-Zabadani and Madaya. Syrian Government and the rebel forces have negotiated a ceasefire in Zabadani after fierce fighting between the two sides two days ago.

The head of Egypt's Military Council Hussein Tantawi has pardoned nearly two thousand prisoners to mark the first anniversary of the uprising. Among those cleared is the Internet activist Michel Nabil who was jailed for three years last April for insulting the armed forces in his bloc. All the prisoners chosen for release were convicted by Military courts since the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak.

Earlier today, the fourth seeded Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna was stunned by the American pair of Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram 6-7, 2-6, which began India’s seventh day challenge on a disappointing note.
