विदेश मंत्री एस. एम. कृष्णा ने कहा है कि २६ नवम्बर २००८ के मुम्बई हमलों के बाद, भारत द्वारा पाकिस्तान को सौंपे गये दस्तावेज में आतंकवादी गुट लश्करे तैयबा के सरगना हाफिज सईद पर कार्रवाई करने के लिए पर्याप्त सबूत हैं। बंगलौर में संवाददाताओं से उन्होंने कहा कि गृह मंत्रालय ने पाकिस्तान को जो दस्तावेज सौंपे हैं, उनमें मुम्बई हमलों में सईद के शामिल होने का पूरा ब्यौरा है।
हाफिज सईद की मुंबई आतंकवादी हमले में योजना बनाने और उसे साकार रूप देने में जो भूमिका रही, उस सारे प्रकरण की न्याययिक जांच करवाकर जिम्मेदारी तय होनी चाहिए थी, लेकिन दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है कि पाकिस्तान सरकार ने इसकी जांच करवाना उचित नहीं समझा।
श्री कृष्णा ने बताया कि पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी की भारत यात्रा के दौरान रविवार को होने वाली बातचीत में सभी आपसी मुद्दे उठाये जा सकते हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि श्री जरदारी भारत की अपनी निजी यात्रा के दौरान अजमेर शरीफ रवाना होने से पहले प्रधानमंत्री डॉ० मनमोहन सिंह से मुलाकात करेंगे।

उधर, अमरीका ने पाकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी की भारत यात्रा को सकारात्मक कदम बताया है। उसने यह भी स्पष्ट किया है कि वह नहीं चाहता कि लश्करे तैयबा के सरगना हाफिज सईद को पकड़वाने के लिए एक करोड़ डॉलर इनाम की उसकी घोषणा को लेकर भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच किसी प्रकार का तनाव पैदा हो।

ओड़ीशा में अपहृत इटली के दूसरे नागरिक और बीजू जनता दल के विधायक की रिहाई के सिलसिले में आज हुई उच्चस्तरीय बैठक में स्थिति का जायजा लिया गया। इस बैठक में पुलिस महानिदेशक मनमोहन प्रहराज, राज्य के गृह सचिव यू. एन. बेहरा और अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने भाग लिया। इटली के राजदूत ने भी मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक के साथ बैठक की। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि इटली के एक नागरिक की रिहाई के बदले अपनी मांगो पर विचार के लिए माओवादियों ने समय सीमा ९६ घंटे और बढ़ाकर मंगलवार तक कर दी है।

माओवादियों की मांग के अनुसार सरकार बीजू जनता दल के विधायक और इटालियन नागरिक की मुक्ति के बदले २७ बंदियों को रिहा करने का फैसला लिया था। लेकिन सरकार के इस फैसले से अपहरणकारी माओवादी गुट संतुष्ट नहीं हुए हैं। पर विधायक अपहरणकारी माओवादी गुट सरकार के फैसले से कोई प्रतिक्रिया अभी तक नहीं दिये हैं। वे उनकी मांग को पुनर्विचार करने के लिए सरकार को कल तक का समय दिया है। उधर इटालियन नागरिक अपहृतकारी गुट सरकार के निर्णय से अंसतुष्ट होकर एक अतिरिक्त मांग की सूची दिये हैं। इसमें सरकार जिन बंदियों को रिहा करने का प्रस्ताव दिये हैं उसे छोड़कर और सात व्यक्तियों के नाम शामिल करने को कहा गया है। कटक से आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए रामेश्वर नायक।

बिहार में जमूई जिले में माओवादियों ने एक वन अधिकारी का अपहरण कर लिया। घटना सोनो थाने के अन्तर्गत अमजहरी गांव में हुई। वन अधिकारी को छुड़ाने के लिए सघन अभियान शुरू किया गया है। जिले से जुड़ी सीमाएं सील कर दी गई हैं और माओवादियों के छिपने के ठिकानों पर तलाशी अभियान तेज+ कर दिया गया है।

ग्रामीण विकास मंत्री जयराम रमेश ने कहा है कि गरीबों और महिलाओं के हितों के लिए राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण अजीविका मिशन के कार्य-कलापों का विस्तार किया जायेगा। उन्होंने बताया कि सरकार अगले पांच वर्षो में प्रत्येक परिवार की कम से कम एक महिला को स्व सहायता समूहों से जोड़ने और बैंक ऋण उपलब्ध कराने का प्रयास कर रही है। आज जयपुर में माइक्रो वित्त और आजीविका विषय पर एक कार्यक्रम में उन्होंने कहा कि इस अवधि में ऐसी महिलाओं की संख्या मौजूदा तीन करोड़ से बढ़ा कर सात करोड़ कर दी जायेगी। श्री रमेश ने बताया कि राज्यों की विशेष आवश्यकताओं को देखते हुए मनरेगा के दिशा-निर्देशों में भी संशोधन किया जा रहा है। उन्होंने माइक्रो वित्त संस्थानों के लिए नियामक बनाने पर भी जोर दिया ताकि ये संस्थाएं प्रभावी तरीके से काम कर सकें।

प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय में राज्यमंत्री वी. नारायणसामी ने कहा है कि कुडनकुलम परमाणु ऊर्जा संयंत्र की दो हजार मेगावाट बिजली उत्पादन करने वाली पहली इकाई दो महीने में चालू हो जायेगी। संयंत्र की दूसरी इकाई अगले चार महीनों में शुरू होगी। श्री नारायणसामी ने चेन्नई में बताया कि कुडनकुलम से पैदा होने वाली पूरी बिजली तमिलनाडु को दिए जाने की मांग, प्रधानमंत्री के विचाराधीन है।

आभूषण निर्माताओं ने वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी से बातचीत के बाद अपनी २१ दिन से जारी हड़ताल खत्म कर दी है। वे सोने और बिना ब्रैंड के आभूषणों पर उत्पाद शुल्क हटाने की मांग को लेकर हड़ताल कर रहे थे। अखिल भारतीय रत्न और आभूषण व्यापार परिसंघ के अध्यक्ष बच्छराज बामालवा ने सभी एसोसिएशनों से दुकानें खोलने को कहा है। उन्होंने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि हड़ताल अगले महीने की ग्यारह तारीख तक स्थगित कर दी गई है और उसी दिन संसद में इस पर फैसला किए जाने की संभावना है।
वित्तमंत्री ने सभी आभूषण निर्माताओं से हड़ताल समाप्त करने का अनुरोध किया है। हमने सभी संगठनों से फिलहाल अपनी दुकानें खोलने को कह दिया है और सभी संगठन भी ऐसा करने पर सहमत हो गये हैं।
वित्त मंत्री ने बजट में सोने और प्लैटिनम पर दो से चार प्रतिशत आयात शुल्क और बिना ब्रैंड के आभूषणों पर एक प्रतिशत उत्पाद कर लगाने का प्रस्ताव किया था।

कांग्रेस ने सरकार से कहा है कि वह आभूषणकर्ताओं की मांग पर सहानुभूति पूर्वक विचार करें। पार्टी महासचिव जनार्दन द्विवेदी का यह बयान नई दिल्ली में पार्टी अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी के साथ आभूषणकर्ताओं के प्रतिनिधियों की बैठक से पहले आया।

तमिलनाडु में सरकारी अस्पतालों के डाक्टरों और अन्य स्वास्थ्यकर्मियों को स्वाइन लू से बचाने के लिए आज से एच-१ एन-१ के टीके लगाये जा रहे हैं। सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य निदेशक पोरकई पांडियन ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि एच-१ एन-१ से ग्रसित रोगियों के उपचार के दौरान इन कर्मियों को इसके संक्रमण से बचाने के लिये यह व्यवस्था की गई है। उन्होंने बताया कि जनवरी से अब तक इस रोग के केवल २३ मामले सामने आए है। उन्होंने कहा कि चिन्ता की कोई बात नहीं है, राज्य के पास टैमीलू की गोलियों का पर्याप्त भण्डार है।

असम के कर्बी आंगलोंग पर्वतीय जिले के देवथोर क्षेत्र से कल रात संदिग्ध कर्बी पीपुल्स लिबरेशन आर्मी के उग्रवादियों ने एक निर्माणाधीन अस्पताल से नौ मजदूरों का अपहरण कर लिया। चार उग्रवादियों ने करीब २७ मजदूरों की पिटाई करने के बाद नौ मजदूरों का अपहरण कर लिया। मजदूरों को छुड़ाने के लिए व्यापक अभियान शुरू किया है।

असम में भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के वयोवृद्ध नेता और पूर्व मंत्री प्रमोद गोगोई का आज गुवाहाटी में एक निजी अस्पताल में देहान्त हो गया। वे ८२ वर्ष के थे। श्री गोगोई शिबसागर विधानसभा क्षेत्र से पांच बार विधायक रहे।भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी की असम राज्य परिषद ने श्री गोगोई के निधन पर गहरा शोक व्यक्त किया है। मुख्यमंत्री तरूण गोगोई ने भी उनके निधन पर दुख प्रकट किया है।

रेल विभाग ने विशेष विश्राम कक्ष और पचास बड़े स्टेशनों पर स्वचालित सीढ़ियां बनाने का फैसला किया है। रेल मंत्रालय के अनुसार बैठने की व्यवस्था, भोजन-नाश्ते, बुजुर्गो तथा विकलांगों के लिए व्हील चेयर भी उपलब्ध कराई जाएंगी। विशेष विश्राम कक्ष नई दिल्ली, हावड़ा, मुंबई और बंगलौर जैसे स्टेशनों में बनाए जाएंगे। इस विश्राम कक्ष में वाई-फाई इंटरनेट, फैक्स की सुविधा के साथ व्यावसायिक केन्द्र, लॉकर और स्नानगृह की सुविधाएं होगी। रेल विभाग अगले पांच वर्षों में प्रमुख स्टेशनों पर ३०० से अधिक स्वचालित सीढ़ियां भी बनाएंगा।

भारत में २०५० तक शहरी आबादी में ४९ करोड़ ७० लाख की बढ़ोत्तरी हो जायेगी। संयुक्त राष्ट्र की आज जारी रिपोर्ट के अनुसार भारत, चीन नाइजीरिया, अमरीका और इंडोनेशिया जैसे देशों में शहरी आबादी सबसे अधिक बढ़ेगी। इस बढ़ोत्तरी से अफ्रीका और एशिया में शिक्षा तथा सार्वजनिक सेवाओं में सुधार के नये अवसर पैदा होंगे । हालांकि इससे शहरों में नौकरियां, आवास, ऊर्जा जैसी सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराना और शहरी गरीबी, मलिन बस्तियों के विस्तार तथा पर्यावरण प्रदूषण पर काबू पाने के लिए बुनियादी ढांचे का विकास एक बड़ी चुनौती होगी।

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna has said that the dossier sent by India to Pakistan, after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, is sufficient for Pakistan to act against LeT leader Hafiz Saeed. Speaking to reporters in Bangalore today, Mr. Krishna said the dossier sent by the Home Ministry has every detail of Saeed's involvement in the Mumbai terror attack.

Hafiz Saeed's involvement in the planning and the execution of the terrorist attack in Mumbai. So, no amount of denial would exonerate them, unless there is an inquiry, judicial enquiry into the whole episode. Thereby, responsibilities can be fixed. But unfortunately, the Pakistan Government has not thought it proper to investigate this.

Mr. Krishna said that all bilateral issues are likely to figure in the talks with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari during his visit to New Delhi on Sunday. Speaking about Chinese objection to India exploring oil in the disputed areas of South China Sea, Krishna said, South China Sea is the property of the world and that ASEAN countries have accepted it.

India maintains that South China sea is the property of the worlds. I think those trade ways must be free from any national interference, it is to be used for increasing of trade related activities amongst nations which comes with in the rim of that South China sea and this has been accepted by the ASEAN countries and this has been accepted by China.

The US has termed Asif Ali Zardari's visit to India, as very constructive. The US also clarified that it does not want any new strains in Indo-Pak ties over the 10 million dollar reward offered by it for terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba, LeT founder Hafiz Saeed. State Department spokesperson Mark Toner told reporters in Washington, for US it's a win-win situation when Pakistan and India are engaging in dialogue, are talking to each other, and are building better cooperation.

Jewelers have called off their 21-day strike today following a meeting with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee over their demand to rollback excise duty on gold and non-branded jewellery. Talking to AIR teh Chairman of All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation, Bachharaj Bamalwa said,that the strike has been put off till the 11th of next month when Parliament is expected to take a final decision in this connection.

The Finance Minister has requested all the jewellery to call off their strike. We have requested all the associations to open their shops right now and all the associations have agreed to open their shops.

Talking to reporters after meeting Mr. Mukherjee in New Delhi, Mr. Bamalwa said that the Finance Minister has assured them that their demands will be considered sympathetically and an announcement will be made on the floor of Parliament.

Earlier in the day, the representatives also met Congress President Sonia Gandhi over the issue.

Congress had asked the government to consider the jewellers' demands sympathetically. AICC General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said, the party has asked the government to consider the demand of jewellers .

The Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office, Mr. V. Narayansamy has said that the first unit of the 2000 MW Kudankulam nuclear power plant will be commissioned in two months time. Speaking to newsmen in Chennai today, Mr. Narayansamy said, the second unit of the Plant is likely to be commissioned in the next four months. He said, the Prime Minister is looking into Tamil Nadu’s demand for allocation to itself of the entire power to be generated from Kudankulam. Mr Narayanasamy said, he will also request the Prime minister to consider the demand, as he was aware of the acute power shortage in the state.

Minister for Rural Development, Jairam Ramesh has said that the Government willintroduce some new features in National Rural Livelihood Mission to benefit poor people and women. Addressing a Colloquium on Micro Finance and Livelihoods in Jaipur today, he said, the Government is trying to connect at least one woman from each poor household with Self Help Groups and bank credits in the next five years.

In Odisha, Maoists today issued a fresh ultimatum threatening to execute the abducted Italian if their demands are not met within 96 hours till Tuesday. The Maoists holding Paolo Bosusco hostage, rejected the list of 27 prisoners who were offered to be freed by the Odisha Government in a swap deal for the release of the Italian. In an audio message to a section of the media, top leader of the Maoist Odisha State Organising Committee, Sabyasachi Panda said, the list of prisoners proposed to be freed for securing the release of Italian Paolo Bosusco was unacceptable to them. Panda had demanded immediate release of seven persons for Bosusco's release. But he said, the government's list excluded many whose release had been demanded.

The state Home Secretary U N Behera said, government has received a new audio release today from the Odisha Organizing Committee of CPI Maoists, the abductor of the Italian. He said, the veracity of the said release is being examined by the state Home department.

There was also no response to the government offer from another group of Maoists who are holding the BJP MLA, Jhina Hikaka, hostage.

In Assam, suspected Karbi Peoples Liberation Army militants kidnapped nine labourers from a hospital construction site at gun-point from Deothor area in Karbi Anglong hill district last night. A group of four militants stormed into the construction site and abducted nine labourers after beating up the group of about 27 workers at the site. District Superintendent of Police, B.B.Chetry has rushed to the spot and launched a massive search operation in the neighbouring jungle areas to rescue the kidnapped labourers.

The country will add another 497 million to its urban population by 2050. According to a report released by the United Nations today, the largest increases in urban population are expected in countries like India, China, Nigeria, US and Indonesia. The report titled ''2011 Revision of the World Urbanization Prospects' says, the projected increase in urban population in India and Nigeria between 2010 and 2050 will be higher than that of the past 40 years.

With a view to facilitate hassle-free passenger boarding, the Railways have decided to introduce a number of facilities like setting up of executive lounges and installation of escalators at 50 major Railway stations. According to Railways Ministry, it will also provide facilities like seating arrangements, food and beverage, wheel chairs for senior citizens and the handicapped. In Tamil Nadu, Doctors and health workers working in Government hospitals, will be given the shot of H1N1 vaccines from today. The Director of Public Health, Porkai Pandian told AIR that 25,000 doses of the vaccine have been procured and vaccination of the medical staff is being taken up in the first phase, as they handle patients and need to be protected to check the spread of H1N1.

Stating that only 23 cases of H1N1 have been reported since January last, Mr Pandian said, there is no need to panic as the state has adequate number of Tami Flu tablets to be administered to the patients affected by the Flu.
