• केन्द्र ने अल्पसंख्यकों के लिए केन्द्रीय शिक्षा संस्थानों में साढ़े चार प्रतिशत के उप कोटा के समर्थन में उच्चतम न्यायालय के समक्ष सभी सम्बद्ध कागजात रखे।

केन्द्र ने आज वे सभी सम्बद्ध कागजात और सामग्री उच्चतम न्यायालय के समक्ष पेश की, जिसके आधार पर उसने आईआईटी जैसे केन्द्रीय शिक्षा संस्थानों में अन्य पिछड़ा वगोर्ं के लिए २७ प्रतिशत आरक्षण में से अल्पसंख्यकों के लिए साढ़े चार प्रतिशत का उप कोटा रखा है। अतिरिक्त सोलिसिटर जनरल गौरव बनर्जी ने न्यायमूर्ति के० एस राधाकृष्णन और न्यायमूर्ति जे एस खेहर की पीठ के समक्ष इस मुद्दे का उल्लेख किया और कागजात पेश किये। न्यायालय की पीठ ने कल मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय से ये कागजात और सामग्री आज पेश करने को कहा था। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने अल्पसंख्यकों के लिए साढ़े चार प्रतिशत उप कोटा निरस्त करने के आंध्रप्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय के आदेश पर रोक लगाने से इंकार कर दिया था। न्यायालय ने मामले की सुनवाई कल बुधवार को रखी है।

देश के आठ राज्यों में उपचुनावों में सामान्य से तेज मतदान होने की खबर है। कुछेक मामूली घटनाओं को छोड़कर अभी तक मतदान शांतिपूर्वक चल रहा है। हमारे संवाददाताओं के अनुसार मतदान शुरू होने से पहले ही मतदाता वोट डालने के लिए बड़ी संख्या में केन्द्रों के बाहर कतारों में खड़े थे।आंध्रप्रदेश में लोकसभा की नेल्लौर सीट और विधानसभा की १८ सीटों  के उपचुनाव के लिए मतदान चल रहा है। कुछ मतदान केन्द्रों पर इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वोटिंग मशीनों में तकनीकी खराबी आ जाने से मतदान दस मिनट देरी से शुरू हुआ। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि मतदाता सवेरे से ही वोट डालने के लिए मतदान केन्द्रों में लम्बी कतारों में खड़े थे। वहां लगभग ४६ लाख १३ हजार मतदाता वोट डाल सकेंगे। उपचुनाव के लिए पांच हजार ४१३ मतदान केन्द्र बनाए गए हैं।मतदान को निष्पक्ष और स्वतंत्र ढंग से कराने के सभी प्रबंध किए गए हैं। चुनाव अधिकारियों ने सभी मतदान केन्द्रों पर वेबकास्टिंग की व्यवस्था की। ये उपचुनाव मौजूदा सांसद के इस्तीफा देने और १७ विधायकों को अयोग्य घोषित किये जाने के कारण हो रहे हैं। तिरूपति विधानसभा सीट अभिनेता से राजनेता बने चिरंजीवी के राज्यसभा के लिए चुने जाने के कारण खाली हुई है।मध्यप्रदेश में महेश्वर विधानसभा सीट के उपचुनाव में शुरू के तीन घंटों में १५ प्रतिशत से ज्यादा वोट पड़ने की सूचना है। वहां मतदान सवेरे आठ बजे शुरू हो गया था और शांतिपूर्वक चल रहा है।तमिलनाडु की पुडुकोट्टई विधानसभा सीट के उपचुनाव में मतदान धीमी गति से शुरू हुआ। ताजा समाचार मिलने तक ४० प्रतिशत वोट पड़ चुके थे। सवेरे आठ बजे शुरू हुआ मतदान शाम पांच बजे तक चलेगा।महाराष्ट्र के बीड जिले में केज विधानसभा सीट का उपचुनाव आज सवेरे कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच शुरू हुआ। राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी के पूर्व मंत्री विमल मुंडाडा के निधन के कारण यह उपचुनाव कराया जा रहा है।पश्चिम बंगाल में बांकुरा और दासपुर विधानसभा सीटों के उपचुनाव हो रहे हैं। राज्य के मुख्य चुनाव अधिकारी सुनील गुप्ता ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि दिन में एक बजे तक ५० प्रतिशत वोट डाले जा चुके थे। हमारे कोलकाता संवाददाता अजीत चक्रवर्ती ने खबर दी है कि जबरदस्त गर्मी के बावजूद वोट डालने के लिए लोग बड़ी संख्या में मतदान केन्द्रों के बाहर खड़े हैं। ये सीटें तृणमूल कांग्रेस के दो विधायकों के निधन के कारण खाली हुई थीं।

कर्नाटक उच्च न्यायालय ने बेल्लारी निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से लोकसभा के लिए भारतीय जनता पार्टी की सुश्री जे शांता का चुनाव निरस्त कर दिया है। न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश एस बिल्लप्पा ने इस आधार पर चुनाव रद्द किया कि वोटों की गिनती में अनियमितताएं बरती गयी। न्यायालय ने यह आदेश भी दिया कि वोटों की दोबारा गिनती चार सप्ताह में पूरी कर ली जाए। याचिकाकर्ता चन्द्रगौड़ा ने सुश्री जे शांता के चुनाव को इस आधार पर चुनौती दी थी कि मतगणना के दौरान हेराफेरी की गयी, क्योंकि आखिरी दो राउंड के अलावा सभी दौरों की गिनती में कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार एन वाई हनुमंत राव आगे थे, लेकिन भाजपा उम्मीदवार को दो हजार २४३ वोटों से विजयी घोषित कर दिया गया। सुश्री शांता कर्नाटक के पूर्व मंत्री श्री रामुलू की बहन है, जो खनन माफिया जनार्दन रेड्डी के निकट सहयोगी हैं।

इस वर्ष अप्रैल में औद्योगिक उत्पादन वृद्धि दर कम होकर शून्य दशमलव एक प्रतिशत रह गई। ऐसा मुख्य रूप से पूंजीगत वस्तुओं और विनिर्माण क्षेत्र में गिरावट के कारण हुआ। पिछले वर्ष अप्रैल में औद्योगिक उत्पादन वृद्धि दर पांच दशमलव तीन प्रतिशत थी। आज नई दिल्ली में जारी सरकारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार औद्योगिक उत्पादन सूचकांक में विनिर्माण क्षेत्र का पिचहतर प्रतिशत से अधिक हिस्सा है और इसकी वृद्धि दर मात्र शून्य दशमलव एक प्रतिशत रही जो अप्रैल २०११ में पांच दशमलव सात प्रतिशत थी। पूंजीगत वस्तुओं के उत्पादन में सोलह दशमलव छह प्रतिशत की गिरावट आई, जबकि पिछले वर्ष इसी अवधि में इसमें छह दशमलव छह प्रतिशत वृद्धि हुई थी। खनन क्षेत्र के उत्पादन में अप्रैल में तीन दशमलव एक प्रतिशत कमी हुई, जबकि पिछले वर्ष इसी अवधि में इसमें एक दशमलव छह प्रतिशत की वृद्धि हुई थी। औद्योगिक उत्पादन में कमी से रिज+र्व बैंक पर इस बात के लिए दबाव पड़ने की संभावना है कि वह १८ जून की अपनी मध्य-तिमाही समीक्षा में ऋण दरों में कटौती करे।
उपभोक्ता वस्तुओं के उत्पादन में अप्रैल के दौरान पांच दशमलव दो प्रतिशत की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई जो पिछले वर्ष इसी अवधि में तीन दशमलव दो प्रतिशत थी। टिकाऊ उपभोक्ता वस्तुओं की वृद्धि दर पांच प्रतिशत रही जो पिछले वर्ष अप्रैल में एक दशमलव छह प्रतिशत थी।बिजली उत्पादन के क्षेत्र में अप्रैल के दौरान चार दशमलव छह प्रतिशत की कम वृद्धि दर्ज की गई, जबकि पिछले वर्ष इसी अवधि में यह छह दशमलव पांच प्रतिशत थी। कुल मिलाकर अप्रैल के दौरान विनिर्माण क्षेत्र में २२ में से १२ उद्योग समूहों में पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि के मुकाबले सकारात्मक वृद्धि दिखाई दी।

वित्त मंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों से यह सुनिश्चित करने पर विशेष ध्यान देने को कहा है कि हर कृषक परिवार को किसान क्रेडिट कार्ड मिले। उन्होंने नई योजना के तहत मौजूदा खातों की जगह जल्दी ही डेबिट कार्ड लागू करने पर भी जोर दिया। सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों और वित्तीय संस्थानों के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारियों के साथ समीक्षा बैठक के बाद संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि शिक्षा ऋण योजना को लागू करने और व्यावसायिक पाठ्यक्रमों के लिए शिक्षा ऋण नीति को भी प्राथमिकता दी जाएगी।
    
हमने ७३ हजार की आबादी वाले छोटे गांवों में बैंकिंग सुविधा उपलब्ध कराने का अपना वायदा पूरा किया है, लेकिन वास्तव में हम इससे ज्यादा ही ७४ हजार १९४ गांवों में बैंकिंग सुविधा उपलब्ध कराने में सफल हो पाये है।वित्त मंत्री ने अप्रैल के महीने में औद्योगिक उत्पादन के आज जारी आंकड़ों पर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करते हुए कहा है कि यह सरकार की आशाओं के विपरीत है और सरकार देश की अर्थव्यवस्था में तेज+ी लाने के लिए कई उपाय कर रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि परियोजनाओं की तेजी से मंजूरी सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कदम उठाए जा रहे हैं ताकि नया निवेश आकर्षित किया जा सके। कृषि ऋण में वृद्धि के साथ-साथ वित्तीय प्रबंधन और नियमित शुल्क संशोधन को भी उच्च प्राथमिकता दी जा रही है। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि डूबे कर्जों के मुद्दे से निपटने के लिए बैंक खुद उपाय कर रहे हैं और भुगतान व्यवस्था वैश्विक मानकों के अनुसार बनायी जा रही है। वित्त मंत्री ने कहा कि अर्थव्यवस्था को फिर पटरी पर लाने के लिए सबसिडियों में कटौती की आवश्यकता है।

बच्चों के अधिकारों के संरक्षण की आवश्यकता पर जोर देने के लिए आज विश्व बालश्रम विरोध दिवस मनाया जा रहा है। विश्व भर में मनाए जा रहे इस दिवस का उद्देश्य बाल श्रम और बच्चों के अन्य मौलिक अधिकारों के हनन को समाप्त करना है। राष्ट्रीय बाल अधिकार संरक्षण आयोग, यूनिसेफ और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रम संगठन के सहयोग से आज देश भर में विभिन्न कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन कर रहा है। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार इस वर्ष का विषय है-बच्चों के न्याय-बालश्रम की समाप्ति। हमारे संवाददाता ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रम संगठन के हवाले से बताया है कि विश्व भर में २१ करोड़ ८० लाख बाल श्रमिक हैं। भारत में २००१ की जनगणना के अनुसार एक करोड़ २७ लाख बाल श्रमिक हैं। देश के  कुल श्रमिकों में तीन दशमलव छह प्रतिशत बच्चे हैं।

पाकिस्तान के एक न्यायिक आयोग ने फैसला दिया है कि उस रहस्यपूर्ण ज्ञापन के पीछे अमरीका में पाकिस्तान के पूर्व राजदूत हुसैन हक्कानी का हाथ था, जिसमें तख्तापलट की आशंका से बचने के लिए अमरीकी सहायता मांगी गयी थी। आयोग ने कहा है कि हक्कानी, राजदूत रहते हुए देश के प्रति वफादार नहीं थे। मुख्य न्यायाधीश इफि्‌तखार चौधरी की अध्यक्षता वाली नौ जजों की पीठ द्वारा आज पैनल की रिपोर्ट की जांच शुरू होने के बाद सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा नियुक्त इस आयोग के निष्कर्ष सार्वजनिक किये गए। रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि हक्कानी अमरीका में राजदूत रहने के दौरान पाकिस्तान के वफादार नहीं रहे और उन्होंने देश के परमाणु संस्थानों, सशस्त्र बलों, आईएसआई और संविधान की सुरक्षा को नुकसान पहुंचाया। पैनल ने यह निष्कर्ष भी निकाला कि कथित ज्ञापन अधिकृत था और इसे हक्कानी के हिदायत पर तैयार किया गया था। पैनल ने कहा है कि हक्कानी ने इस ज्ञापन के जरिए अमरीका से सहायता मांगी थी और वे नए राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा तंत्र के प्रमुख बनना चाहते थे। पैनल ने यह भी कहा कि हक्कानी ने वाशिंगटन में पाकिस्तानी दूतावास के गुप्त कोष से खर्च किए गए बीस लाख अमरीकी डॉलर का हिसाब नहीं दिया। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मामले की सुनवाई दो सप्ताह के लिए स्थगित कर दी है और हक्कानी को अगली सुनवाई पर स्वयं हाजिर होने का निर्देश दिया है। उसने इस मामले से जुड़े सभी पक्षों को भी नोटिस जारी किये हैं। पीठ ने अधिकारियों से न्यायिक आयोग की रिपोर्ट सार्वजनिक करने को कहा।हक्कानी इस समय अमरीका में हैं। पिछले साल पाकिस्तानी अमरीकी व्यापारी मंसूर एजाज द्वारा इस ज्ञापन को सार्वजनिक किए जाने के बाद हक्कानी को पद छोड़ना पड़ा था।

मिस्र में संसद की आज बैठक हो रही है, जिसमें देश का नया संविधान लिखने के लिए एक सौ सदस्यों की समिति बनाई जाएगी। इस बैठक से पहले इजिप्शियन ब्लॉक और फ्री इजिप्शियन पार्टी सहित उदार और वामपंथी दलों ने कहा है कि वे इस बैठक का बहिष्कार करेंगे और उन्हें आवंटित सीटें महिलाओं, इसाइयों, कामगारों, किसानों और समाज के अन्य वर्गों को सौंप देंगे, जिन्हें इस समिति में प्रतिनिधित्व नहीं दिया गया है। ब्यौरा हमारे पश्चिम एशिया संवाददाता से -

अभी तीन दिन पहले मिस्र की इस्लामिक पार्टियों और धर्म निरपेक्ष वामपंथी गुटों के बीच समझौता हुआ था, जिनके तहत संविधान की रचना करने वाली कमेटी में दोनों पक्षों के ५०-५० सदस्यों को रखने की बात तय हुई थी। धर्म निरपेक्ष और वामपंथी गुटों ने अब आरोप लगाया है कि उनके खातें के ५० व्यक्तियों के विभिन्न वर्गो की भी इस्लामिक पार्टियां अपने समर्थित उम्मीदवारों को ला रही है, जिससे इस्लामी पार्टियों का वर्चस्व कमेटी पर बना रहेगा, लेकिन मुस्लिम ब्रदर हुड ने इन आरोपों का खंडन किया है और कहा है कि कुछ गुट समझौतों का उल्लंघन कर रहे है, जिससे नये संविधान की रचना में देर हो सकती है। नये संविधान की जरूरत और भी इसलिए है, क्योंकि राष्ट्रपति और संसद के अधिकारों की परिभाषा इसी के तहत तय होती है। अतुल तिवारी, आकाशवाणी समाचार।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने कहा है कि सीरिया में बहुत से बच्चों ने सरकारी सेना पर यह आरोप लगाया है कि वो उन्हें ढाल के रूप में इस्तेमाल कर रही है। बच्चों और सशस्त्र संघर्ष के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र की विशेष प्रतिनिधि राधिका कुमारस्वामी ने कहा है कि उन्होंने जिन जांचकर्ताओं को सीरिया भेजा था वे बड़े खौफनाक समाचार लेकर आये हैं। कुछ बच्चों ने बताया कि उन्हें विपक्षी लड़ाकों के हमले रोकने के लिए टैंको के ऊपर चढ़ने को मजबूर किया गया। सुश्री कुमारस्वामी ने बताया कि हिरासत में रखे गए बच्चों को यातना दी जा रही है और उनकी सामूहिक हत्या की जा रही है। उन्होंने बच्चों को खतरे में डालने के लिए विपक्षी फ्री सीरियन आर्मी की भी आलोचना की।

वाणिज्य और उद्योग मंत्री आनंद शर्मा ने ब्राजील को नवगठित राष्ट्रीय बुनियादी ढांचा और विनिर्माण विशेष आर्थिक क्षेत्र और खाद्य प्रसंस्करण उद्योगों में निवेश के लिए आमंत्रित किया है। कल ब्राजीलिया में वहां के विकास उद्योग और विदेश व्यापार मंत्री फर्नान्डो पिमेन्टेल से बातचीत के दौरान उन्होंने भारत के बुनियादी ढांचा क्षेत्र में ब्राजील से निवेश करने को कहा। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार दोनों पक्ष इस बात पर सहमत थे कि बुनियादी ढांचा क्षेत्र में निवेश के लिए दोनों देशों की कम्पनियों के लिए काफी संभावनाएं हैं।श्री शर्मा के साथ भारत की १५ बड़ी दवा निर्माता कम्पनियों का प्रतिनिधिमंडल भी ब्राजील गया हुआ है। मंत्रिस्तरीय वार्ता में दोनों पक्षों ने औषधि निर्माण और जीवन विज्ञान के क्षेत्र में आपसी सहयोग बढ़ाने के लिए एक कार्यकारी समूह गठित करने के बारे में सहमति जतायी। ब्राजील ने एचआईवी एड्स और मलेरिया के खिलाफ लड़ाई में आवश्यक दवाओं के निर्माण के वास्ते भारत के साथ संयुक्त उत्पादन में गहरी दिलचस्पी दिखाई। दोनों पक्षों ने मार्च २०१२ में शिखर वार्ता के दौरान लिए गए उस फैसले पर भी अमल की आवश्यकता बतायी जिसमें दोनों देशों के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारियों का एक फोरम गठित करने की बात कही गई थी। उन्होंने कहा कि इस फोरम के सहअध्यक्षों की प्रस्तावित बैठक इस पहल को आगे बढ़ाने में सकारात्मक भूमिका निभाएगी।

भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच सियाचिन पर वार्ता रावलपिंडी में चल रही है। दो दिन की यह वार्ता भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच फिर से शुरू हुई वार्ता प्रक्रिया का एक हिस्सा है। भारतीय पक्ष का नेतृत्व रक्षा सचिव शशिकांत शर्मा कर रहे हैं, जबकि पाकिस्तानी पक्ष का नेतृत्व वहां की रक्षा सचिव नरगिस सेठी कर रही हैं।भारत ने पाकिस्तान को सियाचिन ग्लेशियर पर एक सौ दस किलोमीटर एक्चुअल ग्राउंड पोजिशन लाइन को प्रमाणीकरण और रेखांकित करने को कहा हैं जबकि पाकिस्तान चाहता है कि भारत अपनी सेना १९८४ की जगह पर वापस ले जाये।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव बान की मून और संयुक्त राष्ट्र के विशेष दूत कोफी अन्नान ने संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रेक्षकों की पहुंच सीरियाई शहर अल हफ्फा तक सुगम बनाने की मांग की है। एक बयान में श्री मून ने कहा है कि होम्स में सरकारी सेना की कार्रवाई और अन्य शहरों में हेलीकॉप्टरों से गोलीबारी से आम नागरिक हताहत हो रहे हैं, इसे तत्काल रोका जाना चाहिए। उन्होंने सभी पक्षों से हत्याएं रोकने, अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कानून का सम्मान करने तथा नागरिकों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने की अपील की।खबरों के अनुसार अल हफ्फा और अन्य स्थानों में कल सीरियाई हेलीकॉप्टरों के हमले में सौ से अधिक लोग मारे गए। दमिश्क में संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रवक्ता सौसन घोषेह ने बताया कि संयुक्त राष्ट्र प्रेक्षकों के अनुसार होम्स के उत्तर में रस्तान और तल्बिसेह में तोपों और मोर्टार से भारी गोलाबारी की जा रही है। इसके अलावा हेलीकॉप्टरों, मशीनगनों और छोटे हथियारों से भी गोलीबारी हो रही है। यह पहली बार है कि संयुक्त राष्ट्र के निगरानी दल ने विपक्ष के इन आरोपों की पुष्टि की है कि सीरियाई सेना ने विद्रोहियों के दमन के लिए हेलीकॉप्टरों से गोलियां बरसाईं हैं।इस बीच, सीरियाई राष्ट्रीय परिषद के नये नेता ने राष्ट्रपति बशर अल असद से यमन में हुए सत्ता परिवर्तन के तर्ज पर उपराष्ट्रपति को सत्ता सौंपने की मांग की है। उन्होंने देश को खूनखराबे से बचाने के लिए सीरियाई सैनिकों से सेना छोड़ने का आह्‌वान किया है।

भारत और कनाडा ने एक उत्तम परिवहन प्रणाली स्थापित करने के लिए सहमति पत्र पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं। यह रज+ामंदी  दोनों देशों के बीच बुनियादी ढांचा विकास और सड़कों के रखरखाव तथा परिवहन से संबंधित तकनीकी जानकारी के आदान-प्रदान को आसान बनाएगी।कनाडा के क्यूबेक शहर में हुए समझौते पर सड़क परिवहन और राज्य मार्ग मंत्री डॉक्टर सी पी जोशी और कनाडा की ओर वहां के परिवहन, बुनियादी ढांचा और संचार मंत्री डेनिस लेबल ने हस्ताक्षर किए।

अफगानिस्तान में कल हेलमंड सूबे में सुरक्षाबलों के साथ झड़पों में बीस तालिबान आतंकवादी मारे गए। सरकारी अधिकारियों के अनुसार करीब अस्सी से सौ तालिबान आतंकवादियों ने दुस्तनजई क्षेत्र में स्थानीय पुलिस चौकी पर जोरदार हमला किया। करीब दस घंटे तक चली लड़ाई में २० आतंकवादी मारे गए। मरने वालों में एक वरिष्ठ तालिबान नेता मौलवी यासीन शामिल है। झड़प में दो पुलिसकर्मी मारे गए और छह अन्य घायल हो गए।

बांग्लादेश सरकार ने पड़ोसी देश म्यांमा के राखिने राज्य में हो रही हिंसक घटनाओं में लोगों के जानमाल के नुकसान पर दुःख व्यक्त किया है। उपद्रव पर काबू पाने के लिए म्यांमा सरकार द्वारा उठाये गए कदमों की सराहना करते हुए बांग्लादेश सरकार ने राखिने में शांति और स्थिरता बनाये रखने में म्यांमा की सरकार और लोगों के प्रयासों का साथ देने का संकल्प दोहराया है।

बम्बई शेयर बाजार के तीसरे पहर के कारोबार में सेन्सेक्स में   शुरूआती गिरावट के बाद सुधार हुआ है। आज बाजार खुलने के बाद सेन्सेक्स में एक सौ चौदह  अंक की गिरावट दर्ज हुई थी।   अब से कुछ देर पहले यह १६६ अंक की वृद्धि के साथ १६ हजार ८३३  पर था।नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी ५१ अंक बढ़कर ५ हजार १०५ पर था।अन्तरबैंक विदेशी मुद्राबाजार में डॉलर के मुकाबले रूपया आज सत्रह पैसे कमजोर हुआ। एक डॉलर की कीमत ५५ रूपये ९१ पैसे हो गई।  कल रूपया ३२ पैसे की गिरावट के साथ ५५ रूपये ७४ पैसे प्रति डॉलर पर बन्द हुआ था।उधर एशियाई बाजारो में कच्चे तेल की कीमतों में आज और गिरावट आई।

नागर विमानन मंत्री अजित सिंह ने पायलटों की हड़ताल के दौरान कार्यकारी पायलटों के सहयोग की सराहना की है। उन्होंने कहा है कि मुश्किल वक्त के दौरान कार्यकारी पायलटों ने लोगों के हितों को सबसे ऊपर रख कर एयर इंडिया की साख बनाए रखी। एयर इंडिया के कार्यकारी पायलटों को लिखे पत्र में श्री अजित सिंह ने कहा कि संकट की घड़ी में अस्तित्व के इस संघर्ष में सफलता के लिए सभी का योगदान महत्वपूर्ण है।

जम्मू-कश्मीर में वार्षिक सिंधु पर्यटक उत्सव आज लेह जिले में सिंधु नदी के किनारे शेय गांव के पास शुरू हुआ। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि तीन दिन के इस उत्सव का उद्देश्य पर्यटन को बढावा देना है।सुहाने मौसम और सिंधु घाट पर कल कल करते पानी के मधुर धुनों के बीच लेह में तीन दिवसीय सिंधु काफी जोश और उत्साह से मनाया जा रहा है। सिन्धु तट पर राष्ट्रीय ध्वज फहराकर समारोह का विधिवत उदधाट्न किया गया और फिर सभी धार्मिक समूहों के नेताओं ने विश्व शांति के लिए  एक मन से प्रार्थना की। साम्प्रदायिक एकता और अखंडता की अनूठे विचार पेश कर रहे थे। पर्यटकों के लिए एक ही मंच पर लद्दाख की पूरी सांस्कृतिक विरासत की झलक पाने का मौका होगा। इतना ही नहीं उत्सव में पोलो मैच और तीरंदाजी की खास स्थानीय झलक तो होती ही है साथ ही जम्मू की डोंगरी नृत्य और कश्मीरी गीत-संगीत की भी झलक दिखेगी। सिंधु नदी हमारी सभ्यता और संस्कृति की पहचान है और इसे यहां की जीवनदायिनी नदी भी कहा जाता है। लेह से यांगचान के साथ दिवाकर कुमार आकाशवाणी के लिए।

राजधानी दिल्ली में तापतान का बढ़ना लगातार जारी है। आज न्यूनतम तापमान २८ दशमलव छह डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया जो कि सामान्य से अधिक है। कल अधिकतम तापमान ४१ दशमलव चार डिग्री सेल्सियस था जो औसत से दो डिग्री अधिक है। दिल्ली स्थित मौसम विभाग के निदेशक आर सी वशिष्ठ ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि आने वाले दिनों में गर्मी का प्रकोप जारी रहेगा। उन्होंने बताया कि मॉनसून की भविष्यवाणी अगले हफ्ते की जाएगी।हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि महाराष्ट्र के तटवर्ती कोंकण औरदक्षिण मध्य क्षेत्र में लोगों को भीषण गर्मी से कुछ राहत मिली है। पिछले बुधवार को क्षेत्र के अनेक हिस्सों में मॉनसून की वर्षा हुई थी। इससे पहले भारत की अरबों डॉलर की कृषि अर्थव्यस्था के लिए निर्णायक दक्षिण-पश्चिम मॉनसून इस महीने के शुरू में केरल में दस्तक दे चुका है।

The Centre today placed before the Supreme Court the relevant material and documents on the basis of which it carved out 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities in the central educational institutions such from out of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs. Additional Solicitor General Gourab Banerji mentioned the issue and placed the documents before a bench comprising justices K S Radhakrishnan and J S Khehar. The Court asked the Ministry of Human Resources Development to place the  relevant material by today. The apex court refused to stay the Andhra Pradesh High Court order quashing the 4.5 per cent sub- quota for minorities.  It had posted the matter for hearing tomorrow.

Moderate to brisk polling has  been reported in the assembly bye-polls in eight States and one  Lok Sabha seat  till noon. Barring a few minor  incidents, the polling is so far peaceful. Our Correspondents covering the poll report that voters in large numbers lined up in front of polling stations before the voting began to exercise their right of franchise.
In Andhra Pradesh, the  polling is in progress in Nellore Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly bye-elections.  State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal told reporters in Hyderabad that about 48 per cent polling was reported by 1 pm. More from our correspondent;

Brisk polling is underway for the crucial bye-elections being held in 12 districts that accounts for almost half of the state. Daring scorching heat, voters especially women lined up in serpentine queues before polling stations since morning. Udayagiri Assembly Constituency where both Parliament and Assembly bye-poll is being held registered the highest polling while Yemmiganore Assembly constituency recorded the lowest so far. Two villages in Nellore Lok Sabha Constituency have boycotted the polling demanding drinking water for their village and also to return their lands which were acquired for industrial purpose. Initially, Electronic Voting Machines have been replaced at 16 polling stations due to technical snags. Polling was stopped for a little while due to clashes between two groups out side a polling station in Railway Koduru assembly constituency in Kadapa district and polling was resumed after the police controlled the situation. After observing through Webcasting, Two polling officials have been caught wrong and suspended in Ongole Constituency for favouring a particular party candidate. About 46 lakh 13 thousand voters will be deciding the political fate of a total 255 candidates including those from all the major political parties. Lakshmi, Airnews, Hyderabad

In Tamil Nadu, the polling for Pudukottai Assembly byelection started in a dull note. 40 per cent votes were polled when reports last came in.

In Madhya Pradesh, over 15 per cent polling has been reported during the first three hours in Maheshwar legislative assembly segment by-election.

Polling is progressing  in the by-election to the Mat assembly seat in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh.   By-election for this seat was necessitated following the resignation of Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary.

In Maharashtra,  Polling for Kej assembly by poll  in Beed district  began this morning amid tight security.  The by-poll has been neccesitated due to death of former NCP Minister Vimal Mundada.

In West Bengal, peaceful voting is on for the bye-elections in Bankura and Daspur Assembly seats. The State Chief Electoral Officer, Mr.Sunil Gupta told AIR that over 50 per cent voting was recorded till one pm.  The seats had fallen vacant following death of two Trinamool Congress Legislators.

In Tripura, 32 per cent votes were cast till noon in the Nalcher constituency by election.
In Jharkhand, by-poll to the Hatia assembly constituency is also taking place. About 20 companies of the police have been deployed for smooth conduct of the poll.

Industrial production growth rate slowed down to 0.1 per cent in April due to contraction in capital goods and dip in manufacturing output. Growth in factory output, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), was 5.3 per cent in April last year. Official data released in New Delhi says that the manufacturing sector, which constitutes over 75 per cent of the index, grew barely 0.1 per cent, as against 5.7 per cent in April 2011.  The capital goods output declined by 16.3 per cent as against a growth of 6.6 per cent in the same month last year. Mining output contracted by 3.1 per cent in April, as against growth of 1.6 per cent in the same month a year ago. The slowdown in industrial production is likely to put pressure on the Reserve Bank to cut lending rates at its mid-quarterly review on June 18.

However, consumer goods production showed a faster growth rate of 5.2 per cent in April, compared to 3.2 per cent in the same month last year.The consumer durables segment  expanded by 5 per cent in April, as against 1.6 per cent in the same month last year.    Power generation witnessed a slower growth of 4.6 percent during April, compared to 6.5 per cent in the same month a year ago. In all, 12 of the 22 industry groups in the manufacturing sector have shown positive growth during April as compared to the same month a year ago.

Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, Anand Sharma has invited Brazilian investment in the newly launched National Infrastructure and Manufacturing Special Economic Zone as well as in the food processing industries.The Minister had a Ministerial Dialogue with  Brazilian Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Fernando Pimentel in Brasilia yesterday his counterpart . According to an official release, both sides agreed that infrastructure was one area in which lot of opportunities existed on both sides for the companies to participate in.

Mr Sharma was accompanied by a pharma delegation of 15 top Indian companies . During the Ministerial dialogue, both sides agreed that the establishment of a Working Group in the Pharmaceuticals and Life Sciences would be a welcome step towards furthering the cooperation between India and Brazil in this area. Brazil expressed keen interest in collaboration with India in joint production of essential drugs for fighting HIV Aids, and Malaria.

Both sides stressed the importance of re-launching the India-Brazil CEOs Forum, a decision taken in the form of declaration at the Summit level in March 2012. They also agreed that the proposed meeting of the two Co-chairs of CEOs Forum would be a positive step in taking this initiative forward.

Civil Aviation Minister, Ajit Singh has appreciated the support of executive Pilots for keeping the interest of people foremost and not letting Air India falter during the difficult time. In a letter to all Executive Pilots of Air India, Mr. Singh said in the hour of crisis each one of them holds the key to achieving success in this fight for survival and revival and also to regaining the lost glory.  Reminding them of the intense competition in the civil aviation sector, the Minister has reiterated the vulnerability of Air India to even slightest irresponsible and agitational act of one or other section of the employees which may lead to raising of eyebrows about utility and necessity of Air India. Highlighting the approval of the Government for infusion of funds for Financial Restructuring Plan, Mr. Singh has said that the Government’s approval has come with conditions that specified benchmarks will be achieved in a time bound manner.

Mr.  Singh has lauded the courage and grit of two women pilots, who safely landed a Guwahati-bound Alliance India aircraft and saved 48 lives. The aircraft lost one of the nose wheels during take off from Silchar in Assam. Our correspondent quoting a civil aviation ministry statement reports, Mr Singh personally called up captain Urmila Yadav, co pilot Yashoo Pereira and Guwahati airport director Manvinder Singh, and thanked them for ensuring the safe landing of flight.

The Karnataka High court has set aside the election of BJP Lok Sabha member J Shantha from Bellary constituency. The High Court Judge Justice H Billappa set aside the election on the ground that irregularities were committed during the counting of votes. The court has also ordered re-counting to be completed within four weeks. Petitioner Chandregowda had challenged the election of J Shantha on the ground that there was manipulation in counting as Congress Candidate N Y Hanumantha Rao was leading in all the rounds, but for the last two rounds after which BJP candidate was declared winner with a margin of 2243 votes. Shantha is the sister of former Karnataka minister B Sreeramulu, who is a close aide of mining baron Janardhan Reddy.

A Pakistani judicial commission has concluded that the country's former Ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, was behind a mysterious memo that sought US help to stave off a feared coup and said he was not loyal to the country while serving as an envoy. The Supreme Court-appointed commission's findings were made public as a nine-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry began examining the panel's report this morning. The report said Haqqani was not loyal to Pakistan while serving as the envoy in the US and had sought to undermine the security of the country's nuclear assets, the armed forces, the Inter-Services Intelligence and the Constitution. The panel further concluded that the alleged memo was authentic and was drafted on Haqqani's instructions. It concluded that Haqqani had sought US support through the memo and that he had wanted to head a new national security set-up. The panel further said Haqqani had not accounted for  two million US Dollrs spent from a secret fund of the Pakistani Embassy in Washington. The apex court adjourned the matter for two weeks and directed Haqqani to appear in person at the next hearing. It also issued notices to all parties involved in the case. The bench directed authorities to make the judicial commission’s report public.

Haqqani who is currently in the US, was forced to quit after Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz made the memo public last year. Haqqani, today dismissed the memo commission's report and launched a veiled attack on the judiciary claiming the findings were made public to divert the attention from "more embarrassing developments".

The Bangladesh government has expressed its sadness over the loss of lives and property  from the ongoing incidents of violence the Rakhine state of Myanmar. Appreciating the steps taken by the Myanmar government to contain the unrest, the Bangladesh government has reaffirmed its commitment to stand by the government and people of Myanmar in their efforts to restore peace and stability in the state of Rakhine.

In Afghanistan, at least 80 persons feared dead in an Earthquake triggered landslide in the remote mountain village of Sayi Hazara which trapped many people under the debris of mud houses. Two quakes with magnitudes of 5.4 and 5.7 struck mountainous northern Afghanistan yesterday, bringing a slide of mud and rocks down on the remote settlement. The governor of Baghlan province said 22 homes were buried but the bodies of only two women had been recovered. Twenty people were in hospital with injuries.  The United Nations said it was working with authorities in the area to determine what aid was needed.   Afghanistan's northern part is prone to earthquakes. A 2002 quake in the same province killed more than 2,000  people.

In Egypt, the parliament is scheduled to meet today to set up a 100 member committee to write the new constitution of the country. Ahead of the meeting , a section of the liberal and leftist parties including the Egyptian Bloc and Free Egyptian Party said they would boycott the meet and hand over the seats allocated to them to women, christians, workers, peasants and other sections of the society which have been denied representation in the committee. Barely three days ago, the Islamist and the liberal secular groups had reached an agreement to split the number of seats in the constitution drafting committee between the two sides to 50-50. The liberal secular groups raised fears that Islamists with a two third majority in the parliament were trying to dominate the constitution drafting committee. Now they have claimed that Islamists are trying to secure by proxy the seats earmarked for other groups. Muslim Brotherhood has denied the charges and alleged that some groups are violating the agreement which will delay the process of writing the constitution. The earlier constitution was scrapped after toppling of Mubarak regime. A new constitution is a necessity to spell out what would be the powers of the President and the authority of the parliament in Egypt. With the President’s election four days away and military set to hand over powers by 1st of July, this is going to be a testing time for fledgling democracy in Egypt. Atul K Tiwary/air news

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the UN Special envoy Kofi Annan has demanded immediate access for the UN Observers to the Syrian city of Al-Haffa. In a statement, Ban ki Moon said that intensive military operations by government forces in Homs and firing from helicopters in cities had caused heavy civilian casualties and it must stop. He appealed to all the sides to stop the killing and human rights abuses to ensure the protection of civilians and to respect international law.   

According to reports, more than 100 people were killed as the Syrian helicopters fired on Al Haffa and other rebel strongholds yesterday. U.N. spokeswoman in Damascus, Sausan Ghosheh said that the U.N. observers reported heavy fighting in Rastan and Talbiseh, north of Homs, with artillery and mortar shelling, as well as firing from helicopters, machine guns and smaller arms. It was for the first time the U.N. monitors have verified repeated allegations by activists that Syrian troops have fired from helicopters in the military crackdown on rebels.      

Meanwhile the new leader of the Syrian National Council has urged President Bashar al-Assad to hand over power to his deputy on the lines of power transfer in Yemen. He also called for mass defections from the Syrian army to save the nation from the bloodshed.

World Day Against Child Labour is being observed today across the globe to highlight the need to protect the rights of the child .The objective is to eliminate child labour  and other violations of fundamental rights of children, in all forms. National Commission for Protection of Child Rights is organising various programmes around the country in collaboration with UNICEF and ILO. An official statement said, the theme for this year is 'Justice for children - end child labour. Our correspondent quoting ILO estimates reports there are 218 million child labourers worldwide. The Government 's 2001 census estimated that 12.7 million are involved in child labour and Children constitute  3.6 per cent of the total labour force in the country.  Seminars are being organised across the country by the Central  government and various states to address the issue of child labour.

Finance Minister, , Mr. Pranab Mukherjee today asked the Public Sector banks to pay special attention to ensure that every farmer household  gets a Kisan Credit Card.  He also emphasised that existing accounts should be quickly replaced  by Debit Cards under the new scheme.  Talking to media persons after holding a review meeting with Chief Executive Officers of the Public Sector Banks, financial institutions, Mr.Mukherjee said, implementation of education loan scheme and the new scheme of educational loan for vocational courses will also be given priority.                

I have also suggested that the new scheme for the Education Loan.  Which has been worked out for Vocational Courses and education. We have noticed that the number of account have increased substantially from 3.19 Lakhs when it started the scheme to last year, it was 24.60 lakhs.  We started with 3 lakh 19 thousand, last year  we reach 24 lakhs 60 thousand and the amount has also increased from 4,550 crores to 49 thousand 69 crores.

Reacting to the IIP data released today, Mr.Mukherjee said that this is against the expectation and Government is taking several measures to kick start the economy.  Steps are also being taken to ensure faster project clearances attracting new investments, fiscal management and regular tariff revisions are also a high priority apart from achieving the agricultural credit growth. Mr.Mukherjee said, Banks are pro-actively addressing non-performance assets issues and the payment structure is being made at par with global standards.

Paring all its early losses, the Sensex rose 36 points,  to 16,704, in intra-day trade, today, on fresh hopes of interest rate cut by the RBI, amid weak industrial production data. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange gained 14 points, to 5,069 points. Key indices in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and China slipped between 0.3 percent and 1 percent in intra-day trade today.

The rupee fell further by 17 paise to 55.91 rupees against the US dollar on persistent demand for the American currency from banks as it firmed against other currencies as well amid weak equity markets. The rupee resumed lower by 11 paise at 55.80 rupees per dollar as against the last closing level of 55.74 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) Market.

People in the national capital Delhi continue to experience sultry weather conditions as mercury is soaring with every passing day. The minimum temperature today was recorded at 28.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal while the maximum yesterday stood at 41.4, two degrees above average.  Director Met department Delhi, R. C Vashist told AIR that heat wave conditions are likely to persist in the days ahead. He said the met office will come up with monsoon forecast next week.

A plan to build the biggest land-based optical telescope in the world has cleared an important hurdle. The European Southern Observatory announced yesterday that its governing council gave full or provisional approval for the so-called European Extremely Large Telescope, the E-ELT, which opens the way to starting work on the project. The 1.35-billion dollars scheme entails building a telescope with a massive light-catching mirror 39.3 metres wide, several times the size of the biggest optical telescopes today. It will be sited on Cerro Armazones in northern Chile, close to ESO's existing Paranal Observatory, where the extremely arid conditions and high altitude offer excellent viewing of the skies. If all goes well, the E-ELT would start operations about a decade from now, becoming one of the great astronomical assets of the 21st century alongside a planned radio telescope, the Square Kilometre Array set to be build in South Africa and Australia. Work on building the E-ELT will start once the ad referendum votes are made official and financial commitments are secured for at least 90 percent of the total cost.

राष्ट्रपति पद के चुनाव कार्यक्रम की घोषणा कर दी गई है। मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त वी. एस. सम्पत ने आज नई दिल्ली में ये घोषणा करते हुए बताया कि मतदान १९ जुलाई को होगा और मतगणना २२ जुलाई को की जाएगी। १६ जून को अधिसूचना जारी होने के साथ ही नामांकन पत्र भरने का काम शुरू हो जाएगा। नामांकन पत्र ३० जून तक भरे जाएंगे। दो जुलाई को इसकी जांच होगी और चार जुलाई तक नाम वापस लिए जा सकेंगे।

श्री सम्पत ने बताया कि राज्यसभा के महासचिव निर्वाचन अधिकारी होंगे और राज्यों की राजधानियों में सहायक निर्वाचन अधिकारी नियुक्त किए जायेंगे।

राष्ट्रपति चुनाव में संसद के दोनों सदनों और सभी राज्यों समेत केन्द्रशासित दिल्ली और पुड्डुचेरी विधानसभाओं के निर्वाचित सदस्य वोट डाल सकेंगे। मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त ने बताया कि आयोग स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव के लिए सभी आवश्यक कदम उठा रहा है।

निर्वाचन आयोग, देश के इस सर्वोच्च पद के चुनाव को पूरी तरह स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष तरीके से कराने के लिए कृतसंकल्प है और अपने इस संवैधानिक दायित्व को निभाने के लिए सभी संभव कदम उठा रहा है।
वर्तमान राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा देवी सिंह पाटिल का कार्यकाल २४ जुलाई को पूरा हो रहा है।

इस बीच, राष्ट्रपति पद के उम्मीदवार पर सहमति बनाने के लिए कांग्रेस द्वारा अपने सहयोगी दलों से विचार-विमर्श जारी है। कांग्रेस कार्य समिति ने पार्टी अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी को उम्मीदवार तय करने के लिए अधिकृत किया है। श्रीमती गांधी पहले ही डी एम के प्रमुख करूणानिधि, एन सी पी नेता शरद पवार और राष्ट्रीय लोकदल प्रमुख अजित सिंह से बातचीत कर चुकी हैं।
तृणमूल कांग्रेस प्रमुख ममता बनर्जी आज शाम दिल्ली पहुंची। वे कल श्रीमती सोनिया गांधी से मिलेंगी।

वित्त मंत्री ने अप्रैल महीने में औद्योगिक उत्पादन के आज जारी आंकड़ों पर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करते हुए कहा है कि यह सरकार की आशाओं के विपरीत है और सरकार देश की अर्थव्यवस्था में तेज+ी लाने के लिए कई उपाय कर रही है। श्री मुखर्जी सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों और वित्तीय संस्थानों के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारियों के साथ समीक्षा बैठक के बाद संवाददाताओं से बातचीत कर रहे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि परियोजनाओं की तेजी से मंजूरी सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कदम उठाए जा रहे हैं ताकि नया निवेश आकर्षित किया जा सके। इसके अलावा कृषि ऋण में वृद्धि के साथ-साथ वित्तीय प्रबंधन और नियमित शुल्क संशोधन को भी उच्च प्राथमिकता दी जा रही है। श्री मुखर्जी ने कहा कि बैंक डूबे कर्जों के मुद्दे से निपटने के लिए खुद उपाय कर रहे हैं और भुगतान व्यवस्था वैश्विक मानकों के अनुसार बनायी जा रही है।

सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के बैंकों और वित्तीय संस्थाओं के मुख्य कार्यकारियों के साथ समीक्षा बैठक में वित्तमंत्री प्रणब मुखर्जी ने बैंकों से यह सुनिश्चित करने पर विशेष ध्यान देने को कहा कि हर किसान परिवार को किसान क्रेडिट कार्ड मिले।
श्री मुखर्जी ने बैंकों को शिक्षा ऋण योजना लागू करने का निर्देश दिया और कहा कि इसमें व्यावसायिक पाठ्यक्रमों के लिए ऋण को प्राथमिकता दी जानी चाहिए।

निगमित मामलों के मंत्री वीरप्पा मोइली ने प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह को अनिर्वाचित नेता बताने के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रेटिंग एजेंसी-स्टेंडर्ड एण्ड पुअर की आलोचना की है। आज कोच्ची में उन्होंने कहा कि एजेंसी की टिप्पणी अनुचित और राजनीति से प्रेरित है।

उधर, भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने देश की विकास संभावनाओं के बारे में स्टेंडर्ड एंड पुअर्स की रिपोर्ट को भारत के लिए एक चेतावनी बताया है। पार्टी प्रवक्ता प्रकाश जावडेकर ने नई दिल्ली में कहा कि यूपीए सरकार देश की अर्थव्यवस्था सुधारने के लिए कदम उठाने की बजाय रिपोर्ट का खंडन कर रही है।

आंध्र प्रदेश में नैल्लोर लोकसभा सीट और विधानसभा की १८ सीटों के उप चुनाव के लिए आज भारी मतदान हुआ। मुख्य चुनाव अधिकारी ने आकाशवाणी को बताया कि लगभग ८० प्रतिशत मतदान की खबर है, लेकिन मतदान केन्द्रों पर लोगों की लंबी कतारों को देखते हुए प्रतिशत बढ़ सकता है।

हमारी संवाददाता ने बताया है कि नैल्लोर लोकसभा सीट के लिए ६८ प्रतिशत मतदान हुआ। उदयगिरि विधानसभा सीट के लिए सबसे अधिक ८८ प्रतिशत और तिरूपति में सबसे कम ६७ प्रतिशत वोट डाले जाने की खबर है।

आंध्र प्रदेश में नया कीर्तिमान स्थापित करते हुए लगभग ४६ लाख १३ हजार मतदाताओं में से ८० प्रतिशत लोगों ने आज अपने मताधिकार का उपयोग किया। कुछ छिटपुट घटनाओं को छोड़कर मतदान शांतिपूर्ण रहा। नैल्लोर लोकसभा क्षेत्र के दो गांवों ने पीने के पानी की आपूर्ति और उद्योग लगाने के लिए अधिगृहीत जमीन वापस करने की मांग को लेकर मतदान का बहिष्कार किया। १६ मतदान केन्द्रों पर तकनीकी खामियों की वजह से मतदान शुरू होने में कुछ मिनटों की देरी हुई। रेलवे कोडुरू विधानसभा क्षेत्र में दो गुटों के संघर्ष के कारण से मतदान कुछ देर रोकना पड़ा। बाद में पुलिस के स्थिति संभालने के बाद मतदान दोबारा शुरू हो गया। अंगोल विधानसभा सीट पर एक पार्टी का पक्ष लेने के कारण दो अधिकारियों को निलंबित किया गया। आज के मतदान कुल दो सौ ५५ उम्मीदवारों का चुनावी भाग्य मशीनों में बंद हो चुका है और  शुक्रवार को मतगणना के बाद ही उसका पता लगेगा। हैदराबाद से लक्ष्मी की रिपोर्ट के साथ समाचार कक्ष से मैं शुभ्रा शर्मा।

पश्चिम बंगाल में बांकुडा और दशपुर विधानसभा क्षेत्र के उप-चुनाव में करीब ७० प्रतिशत मतदान हुआ है। मतदान आमतौर शान्तिपूर्ण रहा और बांकुड़ा में ६६ प्रतिशत तथा दशपुर विधानसभा क्षेत्र में ७३ प्रतिशत मतदान हुआ।
त्रिपुरा में नलचेर विधानसभा सीट के उपचुनाव में ९६ प्रतिशत वोट पड़ने की खबर है।
उत्तर प्रदेश में मथुरा जिले के माट विधानसभा क्षेत्र में ६१ प्रतिशत से अधिक वोट डाले गए।

तमिलनाडु में पुड्डूकोटाई विधानसभा सीट पर ७३ प्रतिशत मतदान हुआ।जबकि मध्य प्रदेश के महेश्वर विधानसभा क्षेत्र में ७५ प्रतिशत से अधिक वोट पडें। झारखंड में हटिया विधानसभा क्षेत्र में ४० प्रतिशत से अधिक मतदान हुआ है।

उधर, महाराष्ट्र के बीड जिले में केज विधानसभा क्षेत्र में प्रारंभिक सूचना के अनुसार पचास से ५५ प्रतिशत वोट डाले गए।

केन्द्र ने आज वे सभी सम्बद्ध कागजात और सामग्री उच्चतम न्यायालय के समक्ष पेश की, जिसके आधार पर उसने आईआईटी जैसे केन्द्रीय शिक्षा संस्थानों में अन्य पिछड़ा वगोर्ं के लिए २७ प्रतिशत आरक्षण में से अल्पसंख्यकों के लिए साढ़े चार प्रतिशत का उप कोटा रखा है। अतिरिक्त सोलिसिटर जनरल गौरव बनर्जी ने न्यायमूर्ति के० एस राधाकृष्णन और न्यायमूर्ति जे एस खेहर की पीठ के समक्ष इस मुद्दे का उल्लेख किया और कागजात पेश किये। न्यायालय की पीठ ने कल मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्रालय से ये कागजात और सामग्री आज पेश करने को कहा था। उच्चतम न्यायालय ने अल्पसंख्यकों के लिए साढ़े चार प्रतिशत उप कोटा निरस्त करने के आंध्रप्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय के आदेश पर रोक लगाने से इंकार कर दिया था। न्यायालय ने मामले की सुनवाई कल रखी है।

केरल में सीबीआई ने आज तालसेरी मोहम्मद फजल हत्या मामले के सिलसिले में मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के आठ कार्यकर्ताओं के खिलाफ आरोप पत्र दाखिल किये। ये आरोप पत्र एरनाकुल्लम के मुख्य न्यायिक मजिस्ट्रेट की अदालत में दाखिल किये गये। रिवोल्यूशनरी मार्क्सिस्ट पार्टी के नेता टी.पी. चन्द्रशेखरन की हत्या के सिलसिले में पुलिस द्वारा वांछित एन.के. सुनील कुमार उर्फ कोडी सुनी इस मामले का पहला अभियुक्त है। अन्य अभियुक्तों में स्थानीय नेता करई राजन और करई चन्द्रशेखरन भी शामिल हैं।
मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी छोड़कर एन डी एफ में शामिल होने पर मोहम्मद फजल की अक्तूबर, २००६ में तालसेरी में हत्या कर दी गई थी।

कर्नाटक में धार्मिक गुरू नित्यानन्द ने अपने खिलाफ दर्ज  एफआईआर रद्द करने के लिए कर्नाटक उच्च न्यायालय का दरवाजा खटखटाया है। नित्यानन्द के ध्यानपीठम्‌ आश्रम के पूर्व भक्तों द्वारा यौन उत्पीड़न के अनेक आरोपों के बाद मुख्यमंत्री सदानन्द गौड़ा ने जांच के आदेश दिये थे और पुलिस ने इस बारे में एफ आई आर दर्ज की थी। गिरफ्तारी से बचने के लिए नित्यानन्द फरार हैं।
आश्रम में आठ जून को संवाददाता सम्मेलन के दौरान एक पत्रकार पर कथित हमले को लेकर पुलिस ने नित्यानन्द और उनके सहयोगियों के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज किया था।

भारत और पाकिस्तान ने सियाचिन मुद्दे का सौहार्दपूर्ण समाधान खोजने के लिए गंभीरता से लगातार प्रयास करने का फिर संकल्प व्यक्त किया है। रावलपिंडी में दोनों देशों के रक्षा सचिवों की दो दिन की बैठक की समाप्ति पर जारी संयुक्त विज्ञप्ति में सभी बकाया मुद्दों को जल्द हल करने की दोनों देशों के नेताओं की इच्छा को देखते हुए सियाचिन पर वार्ता जारी रखने पर सहमति व्यक्त की गयी। दोनों पक्षों ने माना कि २००३ के बाद से युद्ध विराम का पालन हो रहा है। बातचीत में भारतीय शिष्टमंडल का नेतृत्व शशिकांत शर्मा ने किया जबकि पाकिस्तानी पक्ष का नेतृत्व वहां की रक्षा सचिव नरगिस सेठी ने किया।

भारत और फिनलैंड ने आज नई दिल्ली में सामाजिक सुरक्षा के क्षेत्र में आपसी सहयोग बढ़ाने के एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किये हैं। प्रवासी भारतीय मामलों के मंत्रालय की विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि इस समझौते के बाद फिनलैंड में पांच वर्ष तक के अनुबंध पर काम करने वाले भारतीय नागरिकों को सामाजिक सुरक्षा अंशदान नहीं देना पड़ेगा, बशर्ते वे भारत में इसका भुगतान करना जारी रखें। यह लाभ तब भी दिया जाएगा, जब कोई भारतीय कंपनी किसी तीसरे देश से अपने कर्मचारियों को फिनलैंड भेजेगी।

भारत ने ईरान से तेल खरीदने के मद्देनजर अमरीका द्वारा उस पर आर्थिक प्रतिबंध न लगाने के फैसले का स्वागत किया है। विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता सैयद अकबरूद्दीन ने आज नई दिल्ली में कहा कि अमरीकी सरकार ने अपनी घरेलू नीति के तहत यह फैसला किया है। उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय वित्तीय संस्थाओं को इस बारे में अमरीकी कानून के प्रावधानों से छूट दे दी गई है।

कोयला मंत्री श्रीप्रकाश जायसवाल ने देश में कोयले की खोज और उत्पादन बढ़ाने के लिए नई तकनीकें अपनाने की जरूरत पर जोर दिया है। वे आज नई दिल्ली में विश्व खनन कांग्रेस की भारतीय राष्ट्रीय समिति को संबोधित कर रहे थे। उन्होंने कहा कि कोयले की खुली खदानों में बड़े ढेर, जमीन के अंदर की खानों में छत को संभालने और खनन कार्यों पर उपग्रह से निगरानी रखने जैसी बातों के लिए तकनीकी सहयोग की जरूरत है।

मुम्बई शेयर बाजार का सेंसेक्स १९५ अंकों की मजबूती से १६ हजार ८६३ पर बंद हुआ। आरबीआई द्वारा ब्याजदरों में कटौती की आशा और यूरोपीय बाजारों में मजबूती के बीच बाजार में ये तेजी आई। नेशनल स्टाक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी ६२ अंक बढ़कर ५ हजार ११६ पर जा पहुंचा। रुपया डालर के मुकाबले ६ पैसे कमजोर हुआ और एक डालर की कीमत ५५ रुपये ८० पैसे दर्ज हुई। लगातार तीसरे दिन सोना दिल्ली में १९५ रुपये महंगा होकर तीस हजार १५० रुपये प्रति दस ग्राम दर्ज हुआ। लेकिन चांदी की कीमत एक सौ रुपये गिरकर ५५ हजार रुपये प्रति किलो पर आ गई।

The Election Commission today announced that the Presidential poll will be held on 19th of July and the counting will take place on 22nd July. Announcing the schedule for the Presidential poll, the Chief Election Commissioner, V.S. Sampath said that the notification for the polls will be issued on the 16th of this month. The last date for filing of nomination is 30th June and the scrutiny will take place on the 2nd July. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 4th July.

The President is elected by a collegium comprising of elected members of both Houses of Parliament and the elected members of State Legislative Assembly of all states including National Capital territory of Delhi and Union Territory of Puducherry. He said all steps are being taken to ensure free and fair poll.

The Election Commission is mandated to ensure that the election to the office of the President of India which is the highest elected office in the nation, must be free and fair election and the Commission is taking all necessary steps for discharging its constitutional responsibility.

Meanwhile, consultations are on by the Congress party with the UPA allies for evolving a consensus on the nominee for the Presidential Candidate. The Congress Working Committee had authorised party President Sonia Gandhi to finalise the Presidential candidate. Ms. Gandhi has already held discussions with DMK Chief Karunanidhi, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and RLD Chief Ajit Singh.

Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee arrived in New Delhi this evening. Ms. Banerjee is to call on the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi tommorow.

In Andhra Pradesh, peaceful and heavy polling marked the Nellore Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly bye-elections. Stating that no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere, State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal told reporters in Hyderabad that about 80 per cent polling recorded by the end of polling at 5 pm. However, he said, the final figures may go up as large number of voters who were waiting in queues, were allowed to vote after 5 pm. More from our Correspondent:

 Leaving minor incidents, the polling has passed off peacefully. While maximum 88 percent polling has been recorded in Udayagiri Assembly segment where poling was held for both Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies, minimum 66 percent of voters utilised their franchise in Tirupati. Voters in large numbers have been waiting for their turn even as the polling time came to a close at 5PM. However, the election authorities have issued slips to all those who were standing in the queues before the closing time. Daring the scorching heat, voters especially women lined up in serpentine queues since morning. Two villages in Nellore Lok Sabha Constituency have boycotted the polling while demanding drinking water supply and to return their lands acquired for industrial purpose. In Tamil Nadu, 73 per cent votes were polled in Pudukottai Assembly byelection held today. Pudukottai district Collector and returning officer Kalairasi said that the poll was held in a peaceful manner. Twenty candidates were in the fray. The counting of votes will be held on June 15.

In Kaij assembly seat in Maharashtra's Beed district. 50 to 55 per cent electorate exercised their franchise. The election ended peacefully.

In Uttar Pradesh, more than 61 per cent votes were cast in  Assembly seat bye election in Mathura district.

 In Madhya Pradesh, over 75 per cent polling has been reported in Maheshwar legislative assembly segment by-election. Polling remained by and large peaceful.

In Tripura, around 96 per cent polling was reported for the bye election till last count for the Nalcher Constituency.     

In West Bengal, around 70 per cent polling was recorded in Bankura and Daspur assembly by-elections today. The two seats had fallen vacant following the death of two Trinamul congress legislators. The counting of votes will be taken up on next Friday.

In Jharkhand, polling for the by election for Hatia Assembly seat passed off peacefully today. About 40 per cent of more than four lakhs voters have cast their votes.

 Industrial production growth rate slowed down to 0.1 per cent in April due to contraction in capital goods and dip in manufacturing output. Growth in factory output, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), was 5.3 per cent in April last year. Official data released in New Delhi says that the manufacturing sector, which constitutes over 75 per cent of the index, grew barely 0.1 per cent, as against 5.7 per cent in April 2011, according to the official data released today. However, consumer goods production showed a faster growth rate of 5.2 per cent in April, compared to 3.2 per cent in the same month last year.

Reacting to the IIP data released today, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee expressed disappointment over the slowdown of Index of Industrial Production, IIP.
IIP, we have analysed.  I am disappointed more on capital goods.  The performance of the capital goods sectors, out of 22 major industries, 12 industry groups have shown positive, but certain other very crucial, including the capital goods, their performance is disappointing.

Mr. Mukherjee said that the Government is taking several measures to kick-start the economy. Steps are also being taken to ensure faster project clearances attracting new investments, fiscal management and regular tariff revisions are also a high priority apart from achieving the agricultural credit growth.

The Chief Economic Adviser to Government of India, Dr. Kaushik Basu has asked sceptics not to be bogged down by the economic slowdown, with the assurance that India still stands second in terms of growth rate. He was speaking at the Fourth Dr.V K R V Rao memorial lecture in Bangalore today.

Accusing Standard and Poor's of not being transparent, the Finance Ministry today said, India's economy is in a much better shape than what is being perceived by the global rating agency. Mr. R Gopalan, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs told reporters that Standard and Poor's judgement cannot be based on a few parameters. He said India is in a much better condition than the rating agency thinks.

In Karnataka, the self-styled godman, Nithyananda has moved the Karnataka High Court to quash the FIR lodged against him. Chief Minister Sadanand Gowda had ordered a probe against the religious head after several allegations of sexual abuse were reported by former devotees of the ashram. The police had lodged the FIR and search is on to arrest the controversial godman. However Nityananda remains missing 24 hours after the Karnataka police launched a manhunt for him.

The Karnataka High court has set aside the election of BJP Lok Sabha member J Shantha from Bellary constituency. The High Court Judge Justice H Billappa set aside the election on the ground that irregularities were committed during the counting of votes. The court has also ordered re-counting to be completed within four weeks.

The Centre today placed before the Supreme Court the relevant material and documents on the basis of which it carved out 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities in the central educational institutions out of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs. Additional Solicitor General Gourab Banerji mentioned the issue and placed the documents before a two judge bench .

The Court asked the Ministry of Human Resources Development yesterday to place the  relevant material by today.The apex court refused to stay the Andhra Pradesh High Court order quashing the 4.5 per cent sub- quota for minorities. It had posted the matter for hearing tomorrow.

In Jharkhand, one person was killed in a landmine blast at Madhuban, a Jain pligrimage town in Giridih district. Speaking to our Ranchi Correspondent, Giridih SP, A B Homkar said that a manhaunt has been launched to nab the culprits. Police and security personnel have surrounded the area.

Rebounding from early losses, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange ended with a solid gain of 195 points, or 1.2 percent, to 16,863, today, on hopes of interest rate cut by the RBI and amidst rising European markets. The Nifty advanced 62 points, or 1.2 percent, to 5,116 points.  The rupee depreciated 6 paise, to 55.80 against the dollar. Rising for the third straight day, gold gained 195 rupees to 30,150 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. But, silver declined 100 rupees to 55,000 rupees per kilo. And US crude oil futures slipped 1.63 dollars, to 81.07 dollars a barrel, while Brent crude ruled under 98 dollars a barrel. Avnish Puti, AIR News.

India has appreciated the US decision to exempt New Delhi from financial sanctions in the wake of purchase of Iranian oil. The External Affairs Ministry's Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said in New Delhi today that the decision was taken by the U.S. Government under its domestic law. He said, the Indian financial institutions have been exempted from the application of the provisions of U.S. domestic law for energy-related transactions with Iranian Central Bank and other financial institutions designated by the U.S. Government.

India and Finland signed an agreement in New Delhi today to enhance bilateral cooperation on social security. A release by Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs said that after this agreement, no social security contribution will be paid by detached Indian nationals working on a short term contract up to five years in that country, provided they continue to make payment in India. The benefit will be available even if an Indian company sends its employees to Finland from a third country.

In Afghanistan, two civilians, including a child, were killed and five policemen injured in a suicide bombing in the northern province of Balkh this  morning. The Interior Ministry said, the suicide bomber riding an explosive-laden bicycle blew himself up in a bazaar in Chahar Bolak district  as a result which two civilians including a child were killed and five Afghan National Police  members were wounded.

In Yemen, at least 25 al-Qaida militants were killed today in fighting  in the town of Jaar, the capital of the southern province of Abyan.  According to the Defence Ministry, the army recaptured the al-Qaida-held town.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the UN Special envoy Kofi Annan have demanded immediate access for the UN Observers to the Syrian city of Al-Haffa. In a statement, Ban ki Moon said that intensive military operations by government forces in Homs and firing from helicopters in cities had caused heavy civilian casualties and it must stop.

According to reports, more than 100 people were killed as the Syrian helicopters fired on Al Haffa and other rebel strongholds yesterday. U.N. spokeswoman in Damascus, Sausan Ghosheh said that the U.N. observers reported heavy fighting in Rastan and Talbiseh, north of Homs, with artillery and mortar shelling, as well as firing from helicopters, machine guns and smaller arms.

The Union Minister of Corporate Affairs Veerappa Moily today gave away the Tagore Literature Awards of the Sahitya Akademi at a function held in Kochi this evening. Awards were given away to Akkitham Achyuthan Namboodiri and Arjan Hasid for poetry and Indramani Darnal for drama. Sheela Kolambkar, Kunjamohan Singh and Jagadish Prasad Mandal received the awards in the short story category.

World Anti-Child Labour Day is  being observed today across the globe to highlight the need to protect the rights of the child.  The objective is to eliminate child labour and other violations of fundamental rights of children, in all forms.  

Centre has stressed collective action combined with efforts by civil society organisations to eliminate child labour. The Secretary in the ministry of Women and child Development, Neela Gangadhran said this while speaking at the commemoration of the World Anti-Child Labour Day in New Delhi today.
