द‌िल्ली और केरल में टूटा वोट‌िंग र‌िकॉर्ड

तीसरे चरण के मतदान में बंपर मतदान हु्आ है। द‌िल्ली और केरल में मतदान के र‌िकॉर्ड टूटे है। द‌िल्ली में 2009 के बाद सबसे ज्यादा मतदान। शाम 5 बजे तक मुजफ्फरनगर में 65 प्रत‌िशत, केरल में 65 प्रत‌िशत, द‌िल्ली में 60 प्रत‌िशत, नोएडा (गौतमबुद्धनगर) में 58 प्रत‌िशत मतदान पड़ा।

इसके अलावा कैराना लोकसभा क्षेत्र में 66.4 प्रत‌िशत, गाज‌ियाबाद में 57 प्रत‌िशत, बुलंदशहर में 56 प्रत‌िशत, ओड‌िशा में 58 प्रत‌िशत मतदान पड़ा। अभी मतदान खत्म होने में 20 म‌िनट का समय है। उम्मीद जताई जा रही है क‌ि वोट‌िंग प्रत‌िशत अभी और बढ़ेगा।

 

 

60 पास पहुंचा मतदान प्रत‌िशत

पश्च‌िमी उत्तरप्रदेश और द‌िल्ली एनसीआर में बंपर मतदान हो रहा है। मतदाता पोल‌िंग बूथ पर जाकर जमकर मतदान कर रहे हैं। तीन बजे तक के आकंड़ों के मुताब‌िक नोएडा में 46 प्रत‌िशत, द‌िल्ली में 52 प्रत‌िशत, गाज‌ियाबाद में 49 प्रत‌िशत, ब‌िजनौर में 55 प्रत‌िशत, मेरठ में 54 प्रत‌िशत बुलंदशहर में 39 प्रत‌िशत, गुडगांव में 48 प्रत‌िशत मतदान हुए।

सबसे ज्यादा चौंकाने वाले आंकड़े सहारनपुर से आ रहे हैं जहां तीन बजे तक 59 प्रत‌िशत से ज्यादा और मुजफ्फरनगर में 52 प्रत‌िशत मतदान हुआ है।

 

 

वेस्ट यूपी में भारी मतदान

दोपहर एक बजे तक सबसे अधिक मतदान का प्रतिशत मोदीनगर में रहा है। मोदीनगर में अब तक 38 फीसदी मतदान हुआ है। सभी जगहों को मिलाकर कुल 35 फीसदी मतदान हो चुका है। �

गाजियाबाद� में 34 फीसदी मतदान, साहिबाबाद में 32 फीसदी, लोनी मे 34 फीसदी, धौलाना में 32 फीसदी, मुरादनगर में 36 फीसदी, मोदीनगर में 38 फीसदी, बुलंदशहर में 33 फीसदी मतदान हुआ।

 

भाजपा नेता सत्यपाल स‌िंह पर हमला

बागपत से भाजपा प्रत्याशी और पूर्व मुंबई कम‌िश्नर सत्यपाल स‌िंह के काफ‌िले पर हमला हुआ है। ये हमला बागपत के मलकपुर गांव में हुआ है। खबरों के मुताब‌िक राष्ट्रीय लोकदल के कार्यकर्ताओं ने क‌िया है। रालोद कार्यकर्ताओं ने सत्यपाल की गाड़ी पर पत्थर फेंके।

सत्यपाल स‌िंह का राष्ट्रीय लोकदल के अध्यक्ष अजीत स‌िंह से सीधा मुकाबला है।

 

सत्यपाल स‌िंह का फूटा स‌िर

बागपत जिले के मलकपुर गांव में भाजपा प्रत्याशी सत्यपाल सिंह से कुछ लोगों ने मारपीट की। इस दौरान सत्यपाल सिंह का सिर फूट गया। भाजपाइयों का आरोप है कि संबंधित बूथ पर एक प्रत्याशी के पक्ष में जबरन वोट डलवाए जा रहे थे। जिसका भाजपा प्रत्याशी ने विरोध किया था।

सूचना मिलते ही जिले के पुलिस विभाग के आला अ‌धिकारी मौके पर पहुंच गए और दो लोगों को हिरासत में ले लिया। घटना के बाद भारी पुलिस बल की मौजूदगी में मतदान कराया जा रहा है।

 

मतदान के दौरान गाजियाबाद में युवक को गोली मारी

यूपी के गाजियाबाद में मतदान के दौरान विवाद की खबर है। विजयनगर में एक युवक को गोली मारी गई है। लोनी के मंडोला में बूथ नंबर-3 पर कमल के निशान का बटन खराब होने की खबर है। इस दौरान ईवीएम को बदला गया जिससे 40-55 मिनट मतदान प्रभावित हुआ।

मुरादनगर के बूथ संख्या 124 हंस इंटर कालेज पर पीठासीन अधिकारी ने आधार कार्ड को पहचान पत्र मानने से किया इंकार कर दिया और लोगों को वोट डालने से मना किया। मौके पर पहुंचे प्रदेश के राज्य मंत्री आशू मलिक से लोगों ने शिकायत की। आशू मलिक ने एसडीएम से बात कर मामला सुलझाया। बाद में आधार कार्ड वाले मतदाताओं को भी वोट डालने दिया गया।

सुबह नौ बजे तक लोनी में 10 प्रतिशत, मुरादनगर में 10 प्रतिशत, साहिबाबाद में 9.5 प्रतिशत, गाजियाबाद सदर में 9 प्रतिशत, बागपत के मोदीनगर क्षेत्र में 10.5 प्रतिशत मतदान हुआ। वोटर लिस्ट में नाम न होने पर इंदिरापुरम पब्लिक स्कूल में भी हंगामा हुआ। अमर सिंह ने सूर्यनगर में वोट डाला। यूपी के कैबिनेट मंत्री राजेंद्र चौहान 11 बजे एमएमएच कॉलेज में और डीएमएसएसपी इंग्राहम स्कूल में मतदान किया।

 

वोट को लेकर विजयनगर में युवक को मारी गोली

वोट को लेकर प्रताप विहार विजयनगर में दिनेश नामक युवक को गोली मार दी। पेशे से ड्राइवर 30 वर्षीय दिनेश गोली लगने से गंभीर घायल हो गया। उसे कोलंबिया एशिया अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है।

इस मामले में पुलिस ने अभी तक रिपोर्ट दर्ज नहीं की है। जानकारी के मुताबिक, देर रात जब दिनेश कार पार्किंग में कार पार्क कर घर जा रहा था। इसी दौरान उसे दो युवक मिले और पूछा कि किसे वोट डालेगा।

दिनेश ने कहा कि जिसे परिवार वाले कहेंगे उसे वोट दूंगा। युवकों ने दबाव डाला की जहां वो कहेंगे वहीं वोट डालना होगा।

युवक के इस बात पर इंकार करने से दोनों युवकों में से एक ने गोली चला दी जो दिनेश के दाहिने बाजू की हड्डी को तोड़ते हुए निकल गई। मौके पर पहुंची पुलिस ने दिनेश को कोलंबिया एशिया अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया है।� 

 

तीसरे चरण में कुल 1418 प्रत्याशी मैदान में

आम चुनाव के महासंग्राम का मुख्य मुकाबला शुरू हो गया है। लोकसभा चुनाव के तीसरे चरण में 91 सीटों पर वोट डाले जा रहे हैं।
इस दौरान कई जगह से छिटपुट हिंसा की खबर है। बिहार के जमुई में नक्सली हमले में दो जवानों की मौत हो गई। नक्सलियों ने बारूदी सुरंग बिछाकर विस्फोट किया।

तीसरे चरण में पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश की 10 सीटों के साथ ही दिल्ली और हरियाणा की सभी सीटों पर भी मतदान जारी है। चंडीगढ़ में भी वोट डाले जा रहे हैं।

इस चरण में कुल 1418 प्रत्याशी मैदान में हैं। 91 सीटों पर करीब 11 करोड़ वोटर ईवीएम का बटन दबाकर इन उम्मीदवारों की किस्मत का फैसला करेंगे।

 

गाजियाबाद पर टिकी सबकी निगाहें

तीसरे चरण में पश्चिमी यूपी में गाजियाबाद, मेरठ, बिजनौर, गौतमबुद्धनगर, मुजफ्फरनगर, अलीगढ़, बागपत, बुलंदशहर, कैराना और सहारनपुर की सीटें पर वोट डाले जा रहे हैं।

लेकिन यहां नजरें जिन सीटों पर टिकीं हैं, उनमें गाजियाबाद प्रमुख है, जहां भाजपा ने पूर्व सेना प्रमुख वीके सिंह को उतारा है तो कांग्रेस से राज बब्बर, सपा से सुधन रावत, बसपा से मुकुल उपाध्याय और आप से शाजिया इल्मी मैदान में हैं।

वहीं, बागपत सीट को बचाने के लिए रालोद सुप्रीमो अजित सिंह को कड़ा संघर्ष करना पड़ रहा है। उनके मुकाबले भाजपा ने पूर्व आईपीएस अधिकारी सत्यपाल सिंह को उतारा है।

 

 

दिल्ली में कांग्रेस के सामने बड़ी चुनौती

वहीं, दिल्ली में कांग्रेस के सामने अपनी सीटें बचाने की चुनौती है, जहां उसे भाजपा और आप के उम्मीदवार कड़ी चुनौती दे रहे हैं।

यहां चांदनी चौक सीट से कपिल सिब्बल को भाजपा के हर्षवर्धन और आप के आशुतोष कड़ी टक्कर दे रहे हैं। नई दिल्ली सीट पर कांग्रेस के अजय माकन, भाजपा की मीनाक्षी लेखी और आप के आशीष खेतान में भी कड़ा मुकाबला माना जा रहा है।

नागपुर में पहली बार लोकसभा चुनाव लड़ रहे नितिन गडकरी का मुकाबला सात बार के सांसद विलास मुत्तेमवार से है। वहीं, चंडीगढ़ में पवन बंसल त्रिकोणीय मुकाबले में फंसे हैं। यहां भाजपा की किरण खेर तथा आप की गुल पनाग उन्हें कड़ी टक्कर दे रही हैं।

 

बिहार और झारखंड में सुरक्षा के कड़े इंतजाम

तीसरे चरण में केरल की सभी 20 सीटों पर मतदान जारी है। इसके अलावा महाराष्ट्र और ओडिशा की दस-दस सीटों, मध्य प्रदेश की नौ, बिहार की छह, झारखंड की चार तथा छत्तीसगढ़, जम्मू-कश्मीर की एक-एक सीट के लिए वोट डाले जा रहे हैं।

मतदान प्रक्रिया को शांतिपूर्ण और निष्पक्ष ढंग से कराने के लिए चुनाव आयोग ने सारी तैयारियां पूरी कर ली हैं। नक्सलियों की चेतावनी को देखते हुए बिहार और झारखंड में विशेष सुरक्षा इंतजाम किए गए हैं।

केंद्र शासित लक्षद्वीप और अंडमान में भी मतदान जारी है। इनके साथ ही ओडिशा विधानसभा के लिए भी लोग अपने मताधिकार का इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं।

 

इन दिग्गजों के भाग्य का होगा फैसला

लोकसभा चुनाव के इस चरण में कई दिग्गज उम्मीदवारों की किस्मत का फैसला होगा।

इनमें अजित सिंह, मीरा कुमार, कमलनाथ, कपिल सिब्बल, कृष्णा तीरथ, शशि थरूर और ई अहमद, जनरल वीके सिंह, नितिन गडकरी, राज बब्बर, जया प्रदा, राजमोहन गांधी, पवन बंसल और अजय माकन, नगमा, योगेंद्र यादव, नवीन जिंदल, राव इंद्रजीत सिंह, लोजपा के चिराग पासवान और दीपेंद्र हुड्डा शामिल हैं।

 

बार्डर पर भी जोरी है वोटिंग

भारत -पाक सीमा पर लोकतंत्र के महापर्व पर उत्सव सा माहौल है। सुबह से लोगबाग लंबी कतारों में अपने मताधिकार का उपयोग करने पहुंच रहे हैं। बड़ी संख्या में बुजुर्ग और महिलाओं ने लोकतंत्र के महायज्ञ में अपनी भूमिका अदा की है।

इस बार मतदान का समय एक घंटा पहले हो गया जो महिलाओं के लिए ज्यादा उपयोगी लग रहा है। महिलाएं सुबह ही वोट डालकर अपने घर के कामकाज में जुटना चाहती हैं। इस कारण सुबह सात बजे से ही मतदान केंद्रों पर लंबी कतार देखी जा रही है।

जम्मू-पुंछ संसदीय क्षेत्र में सांबा, राजोरी और अखनूर के इलाके भारत-पाकिस्तान की अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा और नियंत्रण रेखा से लगती हैं। इस वजह से सुरक्षा के खास इंतजाम किए गए हैं।

बार्डर सील है और एलओसी पर सेना के जवानों का सख्त पहरा है। हर पोंलिंग स्टेशन पर एसएसबी के जवान तैनात हैं। अबतक कहीं से कोई अप्रिय घटना की की खबर नहीं है। सेना, अर्धसैनिक बल और पुलिस संयुक्त रूप से मतदान व्यवस्था में लगी है। जम्मू शहर से लेकर अखनूर तक सभी बूथों पर मेला का दृश्य दिख रहा है।

Elections 2014: Delhi records 64 per cent voting

64 per cent turnout in Delhi till 6 pm

An impressive 64 per cent turnout was recorded in Lok Sabha polls for the seven seats in the coluntry's capital where Bharatiya Janata Party is seeking victory riding on 'Modi wave' and Aam Aadmi Party and Congress posing a challenge by promising good governance and development.

 Delhi Election Commission officials said around 64 per cent of 1.27 crore eligible voters exercised their franchise till 6 pm and the polling percentage may go up as thousands of people are still queuing up in various areas of the city even after the deadline for voting ended.

In 2009 Lok Sabha polls, the overall voting percentage was recorded at 52.3 per cent, which had increased to 66 per cent in the 2013 Delhi assembly election in December last year.

The high-octane campaign for the polls saw BJP, AAP and Congress engaging in a close fight to win the seven seats -- considered prestigious due to political symbolism.

The prominent contenders in the fray include Union Ministers Kapil Sibal and Krishna Tirath, Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan, Congress' Ajay Maken, Sandeep Dikshit, Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, journalist-turned- politician Ashutosh and BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi.

Vice President Hamid Ansari, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal were among the early voters.

The election results is likely to set the stage for possible assembly polls in the next few months. BJP may prefer going to assembly polls early if it puts up a good show in the Lok Sabha polls.

The Lok Sabha poll mandate will also reflect AAP's support base in Delhi amidst perceived disillusionment among middle-class voters who had helped the party to make a spectacular debut in assembly polls just five months ago.

Congress has also tried to regain its support base through a series of initiatives in the last four months following its crushing defeat in the assembly polls in which it got just 8 seats.

Around 50 per cent cast vote in west UP

Brisk polling was today witnessed in politically sensitive Western Uttar Pradesh as 50.97 per cent voters cast their votes till 3 pm.

According to EC sources, Saharanpur witnessed 56.40 per cent polling in the first four hours, while 56.68 per cent voting was reported from Kairana, and 54.98 electorates exercised there franchise in Muzaffarnagar till 3 pm.

Similarly, Bijnore had 54.92 per cent polling, Meerut 54.40 per cent, Baghpat 49.84 per cent, Ghaziabad 48.34 per cent, Gautam Buddha Nagar 46.20 per cent, Bulandshahr 42.20 per cent and Aligarh 45.72 per cent.

In these 10 constituencies spread in 11 districts, the vote percentage in 2009 polls was 51.30 per cent while in 2012 assembly polls the percentage was 61.78 per cent.

The electoral fortunes of 146 candidates will be sealed in the EVMs today in the 10 Lok Sabha seats, where a total of 1.74 crore voters -- 95.96 lakh men and 78.37 lakh women -- are eligible to exercise their franchise.

About five mn people vote in Madhya Pradesh

About five million people voted in nine Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh Thursday in largely peaceful polling, an official said.

An Election Commission official said the state recorded a voter turnout of 46.55 percent by 4.30 p.m.

The nine parliamentary seats have an electorate of 11 million.

Chhindwara constituency saw a voter turnout of 56.84 percent and Shahdol too saw a healthy turnout.

However, in Sidhi, only 37.86 percent voters turned up to cast their vote.

Reports reaching here said that as many as 18 EVMs malfunctioned and five villages boycotted the election over different issues.

A total of 118 candidates are in the fray in the nine constituencies -- Chhindwara, Satna, Rewa, Balaghat, Sidhi, Shahdol, Mandla, Jabalpur, and Hoshangabad.

Polling for the rest of the constituencies will be held over the next two phases April 17 and 24. The state has a total of 29 Lok Sabha seats.

In Chhindwara, Congress leader and union minister Kamal Nath is pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party's Choudhary Chandrabhan Singh.

Voting took place at 16,592 polling stations where as many as 132,736 poll officials are on duty.

Jharkhand witnesses 58.03 percent polling

 Despite a Maoist call for boycott of the Lok Sabha election, Jharkhand Thursday witnessed moderate turnout of 58.03 percent in the first phase of polling.

"(A total of) 58.03 percent electors cast their votes for four seats of the state. Koderma witnessed highest polling with 60.97 percent followed by Palamu, Lohardaga and Chatra with 59.30, 59 and 53.88 percent, respectively," an Election Commission official told IANS.

No untoward incident was reported during the polling that began at 7 a.m. and concluded at 4 p.m. as scheduled.

"As many as 1,193 video cameras recorded the polling. Webcasting was done at 271 booths and 1,189 still cameras were also put into service," the official said.

A total of 5,647,736 voters decided the fate of 62 candidates in the fray in the four constituencies.

Around 40,000 security personnel were deployed and six helicopters were pressed into service, of which two conducted aerial surveillance, officials said.

Votes were cast at 7,058 booths, of which 2,134 were categorised as sensitive.

Maoist guerrillas put up posters in remote villages of Lohardaga, Palamu, Gumla and other districts, calling for election boycott.

Key candidates in the first phase of election in the state were former state police chief and BJP candidate V.D. Ram from Palamu who is facing sitting member and former Maoist leader Kameshwar Baitha of the Trinamool Congress and Manoj Bhuiya of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Koderma and Lohardaga constituencies witnessed triangular fights.

In 2009, the BJP won two of the four seats, while one went to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the fourth was bagged by an Independent candidate.

58 percent polling in Odisha till 4 p.m  

 With polling having picked up for the 10 Lok Sabha and 70 assembly seats in the first phase of voting in Odisha Thursday, 58 percent of the electorate cast their ballots till 4 p.m., an official said.

"Information received by 4.00 p.m. relating to polling percentage in the state is 58 percent," an official from the chief electoral officer's office here told IANS.

Voting was peaceful across the state except for some incidents in Maoist-hit Malkangiri and Koraput districts.

Unidentified people set fire to a truck carrying electronic voting machines (EVMs) in Mathili area of Malkangiri district Wednesday night. As a result, voting could not take place at four polling stations, Superintendent of Police Akhileshwar Singh told IANS.

Similarly, in nearby Koraput district, an EVM was snatched from a booth in Pujaripat village.

There were long queues at many polling centres even before voting started at 7 a.m. Thursday.

Over 13 million people were eligible to cast their votes in the first phase of Lok Sabha election in the state. Polling for the remaining 11 Lok Sabha and 77 assembly seats would be held in the second phase April 17.

There are a total of 28,880,850 voters in the state.

Security was tight and paramilitary personnel and police were deployed in vulnerable areas to ensure trouble-free polling.

Defying the boycott call given by the Maoists and braving scorching heat, people came out to exercise their franchise in the southern districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

"People exercised their franchise in large numbers defying Maoist propaganda. High turnout of 50 to 60 percent has been reported in Maoist-hit areas," Inspector General of Police (South Western Range) Yaswant Jethwa told IANS.

Prominent candidates in the first phase are Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and two former chief ministers and senior Congress leaders Giridhar Gomang and Hemananda Biswal.

State Revenue Minister Surya Narayan Patro, former union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jual Oram, state BJP president K.V. Singh Deo and Congress leader Narasingh Mishra are also in the fray.

Nearly 71 percent voting in Lakshadweep

 Up to 71.36 percent of the electorate voted Thursday in Lakshadweep in peaceful polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat, said an official.

India's smallest union territory Lakshadweep is a group of 36 islands, and has an electorate of less than 50,000.

"There was 71.36 percent voting till 5 p.m. and the voting is going on even after 6 p.m.," an official of the Lakshadweep chief electoral office told IANS.

Six candidates are in the fray.

Forty-four polling stations were set up for the voting that began at 7 a.m., officials added.

The Congress has dominated Lakshadweep ever since its first Lok Sabha elections in 1967, except for the 2004 polls when the Janata Dal (United) won.

Bastar LS poll: 47 pc turnout amid firing, explosives seizure

 A low voter turnout of 47 per cent was recorded in the insurgency-hit Bastar parliamentary seat of Chhattisgarh today, amid violence by Naxals, who had called for poll boycott, leaving a police personnel injured.

Naxals ambushed a team of police personnel escorting a polling party when they were returning after conclusion of polling under Gadiras police station limits of Sukma district in south Chhattisgarh, injuring a state police constable, Sukma Additional Superintendent of Police Neeraj Chandrakar told PTI.

"The incident took place in the forests between Dhruwaras and Munga forests when the rebels triggered a pressure bomb blast followed by indiscriminate firing on security personnel," he said.

"A police constable - Raju Alami - was injured in the blast," he said, adding, the injured was being taken out of the forest.

Also, firing was reported near several polling booths and explosives were recovered from separate places in the tribal-dominated seat which went alone to polls in the first phase of parliamentary election in the state.

"As per information, around 47 per cent electorate exercised their franchise in Bastar parliamentary constituency," Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Kujur said.

Maharashtra: 56 pc polling in ten LS seats till 5 pm

About 56 per cent voting was reported in the ten Lok Sabha constituencies of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra till 5 pm today, Election Commission sources said.

The percentage is likely to go up as the polling was scheduled to end at 6 pm.

The constituency-wise percentages till 5 pm are as follows: Buldhana 53.86, Akola: 49.90, Amravati: 54.82, Wardha: 58.08, Ramtek: 50.00, Nagpur: 49.32, Bhandhara-gondiya: 58.60, Gadchiroli-Chimur: 61.00, Chandrapur: 55.80, Yavatmal- Washim: 49.46.

Today's elections would decide the fates of former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister Praful Patel (NCP), former minister of State Vilas Muttemwar (Congress) and Shivajirao Moghe (Congress), among others.

Amid tight security, the voting was mostly peaceful, even in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli and parts of Bhandara and Gondia districts, authorities said.

There were long queues at many polling centres even before voting started at 7 a.m. Thursday.

Over 13 million people were eligible to cast their votes in the first phase of Lok Sabha election in the state. Polling for the remaining 11 Lok Sabha and 77 assembly seats would be held in the second phase April 17.

There are a total of 28,880,850 voters in the state.

Security was tight and paramilitary personnel and police were deployed in vulnerable areas to ensure trouble-free polling.

Defying the boycott call given by the Maoists and braving scorching heat, people came out to exercise their franchise in the southern districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

"People exercised their franchise in large numbers defying Maoist propaganda. High turnout of 50 to 60 percent has been reported in Maoist-hit areas," Inspector General of Police (South Western Range) Yaswant Jethwa told IANS.

Prominent candidates in the first phase are Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and two former chief ministers and senior Congress leaders Giridhar Gomang and Hemananda Biswal.

State Revenue Minister Surya Narayan Patro, former union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jual Oram, state BJP president K.V. Singh Deo and Congress leader Narasingh Mishra are also in the fray.

Over 73 pc vote in Haryana; Chandigarh creates record

 Barring stray incidents, polling remained peaceful in 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana which witnessed healthy voter turnout of over 73 per cent today and Union Territory Chandigarh created a record of highest ever poll percentage of nearly 72 per cent.

Polling began on a slow note in Haryana this morning but picked up pace as the day progressed and heavy voter turnout was witnessed at various places including Kurukshetra and Sirsa.

"Over 1.6 crore eligible voters were to cast votes in the state," officials said, adding that polling was by and large peaceful.

Long queues were seen outside the booths at most of the places in Haryana, where polling was held in single phase and lone Lok Sabha seat of Chandigarh.

Haryana's Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad told PTI over phone that over 73 per cent of the voters had cast their votes and the polling by and large ended on a peaceful note this evening.

In 2009, the voters' turnout in the state was 68 per cent while 65.72 per cent in 2004.

Chandigarh's Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer Mohd Shayin said the Union Territory had recorded highest ever poll percentage in history, as it was set to cross 72 per cent even as final figures were being tabulated.

He said the polling, which started at 7 AM, remained peaceful in Chandigarh and queues could be seen inside booths even after the deadline for polling ended at 6 pm.

The DC said the voting began on a brisk note and over six lakh voters, including 2.8 lakh women, were eligible to exercise their franchise.

It is a four-cornered contest among candidates of Congress, BJP-HJC BL combine, main opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and new entrant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana.

In Hisar, eight supporters of INLD and Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC-BL) were injured in clash in Azad Nagar area in Nalwa constituency of Hisar parliamentary seat over claims of "bogus voting" in a booth following which voting had to be suspended for a while in the affected booth.

HJC supremo and sitting MP Kuldeep Bishnoi, who is taking on INLD's greenhorn Dushyant Chautala, also received minor injuries on his finger, sources said.

In Haryana, the key candidates among a total of 230 whose fate has been sealed in the EVMs include industrialist Naveen Jindal, Deepender Hooda, Avtar Singh Bhadana, Shruti Chaudhry (Congress), former Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh (BJP) who is taking on Yogendra Yadav of AAP.

In a departure from the past trends of moderate voting in Chandigarh including 65.45 per cent in 2009 (highest), 51.14 per cent in 2004 and over 48.35 per cent in 1999, three occasions when Bansal had won, people queued up at the booths since morning which included 101-year-old father of BJP contestant Kirron Kher.

 A total of 50.36 per cent votes were cast till 4 pm in six parliamentary constituencies in Bihar which went to the polls today.

The Election Commission in a statement said that Sasaram (SC) seat registered 54 per cent polling, while neighbouring Karakat recorded 51 per cent.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is Congress candidate from Sasaram.

Aurangabad witnessed 47.5 per cent voting, while it was 51.64 per cent in Gaya(SC), 49 per cent in Nawada and 49 per cent in Jamui(SC), the statement said.

Voting ended at 4 pm in many parts of the six Lok Sabha constituencies, which were Maoist-hit, while it would conclude at 6 pm in other places.

Voting was put off for a future date in 22 polling stations of Jamui (SC) and Nawada seats in Maoist-hit areas due to security reasons.

Besides Meira Kumar, former Kerala governor Nikhil Kumar, Bihar Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary, President of Rashtriya Lok Samata Party Upendra Kushwaha, and Chirag Paswan, actor-politician son of Lok Janashakti Party chief Ramvilas Paswan were prominent candidates in the six seats.

53 pc polling in Jammu; 4 hurt in sporadic clashes

Jammu: Amid tight security, brisk voting was today underway in Jammu Lok Sabha seat where Congress nominee and two-time MP Madan Lal Sharma is looking for a hat-trick while opposition BJP's Jugal Kishore Sharma is trying to woo electorate on Narendra Modi plank.

Voting for the seat started at 7 AM across all polling stations with voters standing in long queues outside various polling stations to exercise their franchise.

Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today cast his vote at DPS polling station in Jammu city.

"There are tough measures taken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) this time to ensure free and fair polling", Azad told reporters here after casting his vote.

DIG Jammu-Kathua range, Shakeel Ahmed Baig said elaborate security arrangements have been put in place and there is no any report of untoward incidents.

Over 18 lakh voters are registered in Jammu constituency which has 2200 polling stations. 80 polling stations have been declared critical.

भारतीय जनता पार्टी में कल शामिल हुए साबिर अली ने कहा है कि मुख्तार अब्बास नकवी द्वारा उन पर लगाये गए आरोपों की जांच होने तक उनकी पार्टी की सदस्यता स्थगित रखी जाए। नई दिल्ली में पत्रकारों से बातचीत में श्री अली ने कहा कि उन्होंने बिहार प्रदेश भाजपा से सदस्यता स्थगित रखने के लिए पत्र लिखा है। साबिर अली के पार्टी में शामिल होने पर भाजपा नेता श्री नकवी ने ट्विट कर उन्हें इंडियन मुजाहिद्दीन यासिन भटकल का दोस्त बताया था। श्री नकवी ने जाने माने गायक गुलशन कुमार की हत्या मामले में श्री अली का नाम आने का भी आरोप लगाया था।

उत्तर प्रदेश में सहारनपुर से गिरफ्तार किए गए कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार इमरान मसूद को आज देवबंद की अदालत में पेश किया गया। उन्हें १४ दिन की न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया है। श्री मसूद के खिलाफ एफ आई आर दर्ज करायी गयी थी जिसके बाद  कल देर रात देवबन्द पुलिस ने उन्हें आचार संहिता के उल्लंघन के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया था।  उन पर भाजपा नेता नरेन्द्र मोदी के खिलाफ आपत्तिजनक टिप्पणी करने का आरोप है। जिला पुलिस प्रमुख ने हमारे इलाहाबाद संवाददाता को बताया है कि चूंकि श्री मसूद के पास से कुछ नहीं मिला है, इसलिए उन्होंने पुलिस रिमांड की मांग नहीं की है। श्री मसूद को उनके घर से गिरफ्तार किया गया था और पुलिस लाइन में रखा गया था।
इस बीच, श्री मसूद ने कहा कि उन्होंने हाल में कोई टिप्पणी नहीं की है, उनकी यह टिप्पणी सात महीने पुरानी है। उन्होंने कहा कि श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी गुजरात में २००२ में हुए दंगों के लिए माफी मांगते हैं तो वे भी अपनी टिप्पणी के लिए माफी मांगने के लिए तैयार हैं।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने निर्वाचन आयोग से आग्रह किया है कि नरेन्द्र मोदी के लिए कथित धमकी भरे टिप्पणी करने के लिए वह सहारनपुर से कांग्रेस की लोकसभा सीट के उम्मीदवार इमरान मसूद और उनकी पार्टी के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई करे। भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता मुख्तार अब्बास नकवी के नेतृत्व में एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने इस संबंध में आयोग में शिकायत दर्ज कराई। नई दिल्ली में शिकायत दर्ज करने के बाद संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में श्री नकवी ने कहा कि चुनाव प्रचार अभियान में विभिन्न दलों, विशेष रूप से कांग्रेस में भड़काऊ भाषण देने की सामान्य प्रवृत्ति दिखाई दे रही है जिससे स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनावों का संचालन प्रभावित हो सकता है।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता नरेन्द्र मोदी ने कहा है कि अब समय आ गया है कि वंशवाद की राजनीति और इसके शासकों से छुटकारा पाया जाए।  बागपत के बड़ौत में एक चुनाव रैली को संबोधित करते हुए उन्होंने राष्ट्रीय लोकदल प्रमुख और इलाके से लोकसभा चुनाव के उम्मीदवार अजीत सिंह की आलोचना करते हुए कहा कि महान किसान नेता का पुत्र होकर भी उन्होंने सिर्फ सत्ता की राजनीति की और झूठे वायदों के सिवाय कुछ नहीं किया। उन्होंने कहा कि बागपत को दिल्ली के उपनगर की तरह विकसित किये जाने की जरूरत है, इससे न केवल इस इलाके का विकास होगा, बल्कि लोगों की खुशहाली बढ़ेगी।

कांग्रेस उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी ने पार्टी उम्मीदवार इमरान मसूद की गिरफ्तारी को देखते हुए आज सहारनपुर में अपनी रैली रद्द कर दी है। पिछले दिनों भाजपा नेता नरेन्द्र मोदी के खिलाफ इमरान मसूद की टिप्पणी को लेकर विवाद उठा था। कांग्रेस विधायक दल के नेता प्रदीप माथुर ने बताया कि रैली की अगली तिथि बाद में तय की जाएगी।
कांग्रेस ने इमरान मसूद की टिप्पणी से अपने को यह कहते हुए अलग कर लिया है कि वह भाषा या किसी अन्य प्रकार की हिंसा के खिलाफ हैं। भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने निर्वाचन आयोग से मसूद के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई की मांग की है।

इस बीच, लोकसभा चुनाव के छठे चरण के मतदान के लिए अधिसूचना जारी होने के साथ ही ग्यारह राज्यों और केन्द्रशासित प्रदेश पुद्दुचेरी के ११७ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में नामांकन भरने का काम शुरू हो गया है। इनमें तमिलनाडु की ३९, महाराष्ट्र की १९, उत्तर प्रदेश की १२, मध्य प्रदेश की १०, छत्तीसगढ़ और बिहार की सात-सात, असम और पश्चिम बंगाल की ६-६, राजस्थान की पांच, झारखंड की चार, जम्मू और कश्मीर की एक तथा पुद्दुचेरी की एकमात्र लोकसभा सीट शामिल है। इस चरण के लिए पर्चे भरने की अंतिम तारीख पांच अप्रैल है। सात अप्रैल को इनकी जांच की जाएगी।

लोकसभा की १२८ और सिक्किम विधानसभा की ३२ तथा ओड़ीशा विधानसभा की ७७ सीटों के चुनाव के लिए नाम वापसी का आज आखिरी दिन है।           
चुनाव के चौथे चरण में लोकसभा के सात निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों, जिनमें असम में तीन, गोआ में दो और सिक्किम तथा त्रिपुरा में एक-एक सीट के लिए १२ अप्रैल को मतदान कराया जाएगा।
पांचवें चरण में बारह राज्यों के १२१ लोकसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों और ओड़ीशा विधानसभा की ७७ सीटों के लिए १७ अप्रैल को मतदान होगा। इनमें बिहार, छत्तीसगढ़, जम्मू कश्मीर, झारखण्ड, कर्नाटक, मध्य प्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र, मणिपुर, ओड़ीशा, राजस्थान, उत्तर प्रदेश तथा पश्चिम बंगाल के निर्वाचन क्षेत्र शामिल हैं।

मणिपुर में थौबाल जिले के खोइदुम लेक इलाके में पुलिस कमांडो और केन्द्रीय अर्द्धसैनिक बलों की संयुक्त टीम ने उग्रवादियों के एक ठिकाने का पता लगाकर भारी संख्या में अत्याधुनिक हथियार बरामद किए हैं। पुलिस ने बताया कि इनमें एक लेथोड गन, एक ए.के.-५६ राइफल, एक एम-१६ राइफल, एक सौ डिटोनेटर और कई राउंड गोलियां शामिल हैं। सुरक्षाबलों के ठिकाने पर पहुंचने से पहले ही उग्रवादी भाग गये। 
इस बीच इम्फाल पश्चिम जिला थाना से सम्बद्ध कमांडो ने कांगलेई यावोल कानलुप के तीन उग्रवादियों को गिरफ्तार किया है। इन्हें पूछताछ के लिए पुलिस को सौंप दिया गया है।

उधर, जम्मू-कश्मीर में श्रीनगर में सेना के शिविर के बाहर आतंकवादियों द्वारा रखे गए अत्याधुनिक विस्फोटक को बम निरोधक दस्ते ने नष्ट कर दिया है।  पुलिस ने बताया कि पांच किलोग्राम का विस्फोटक एक थैले में बेमिना इलाके में सड़क किनारे रखा था। १५१ प्रादेशिक सेना के गश्ती दल को इस थैले में एक प्रेशर कुकर मिला जिसे बम निरोधक दस्ते ने नष्ट कर दिया।

दक्षिणी हिंद महासागर के कुछ अन्य क्षेत्रों में मलेशिया के दुर्घटनाग्रस्त विमान के कुछ टुकड़ों को देखा गया है। ऑस्ट्रेलिया के अधिकारियों का कहना है कि हिंद महासागर में मलेशिया के लापता विमान एम एच ३७० के तलाशी अभियान में लगे चीन के जहाजों ने कुछ नये इलाकों में खोज  के दौरान इन टुकड़ों को देखा। जिस स्थान पर पहले खोज की जा रही थी उससे करीब एक हजार एक सौ किलोमीटर पूर्वोत्तर के इलाके में आज खोज की जा रही है। खोज कार्य में लगे पांच विमानों ने कल विभिन्न रंगों के कई टुकड़ों को देखा।
ऑस्ट्रेलिया और मलेशिया की सरकारों ने कल बताया कि राडार से प्राप्त आंकडों के अनुसार दुर्घटनाग्रस्त विमान निर्धारित गति से तेज उड़ान भरने के कारण अधिक ईधन की खपत कर रहा था, इसलिए खोज अभियान का क्षेत्र बदला गया है।

भारत और अमरीका ने भारत-प्रशांत आर्थिक क्षेत्र में समुद्री सुरक्षा और क्षेत्रीय व्यापार बढ़ाने के बारे में आज वाशिंगटन में विचार-विमर्श किया। अमरीका-भारत पूर्वी एशिया विचार विमर्श के छठे दौर में दोनों देशों ने क्षेत्रीय और बहुपक्षीय संस्थानों के बीच सहयोग बढ़ाने की प्रतिबद्धता व्यक्त की। दोनों देशों के प्रतिनिधिमंडल के बीच इसके अलावा भी विभिन्न मुद्दों पर बातचीत हुई।
इससे पहले विदेश मंत्रालय की उप-प्रवक्ता मैरी हाफ ने कहा कि अमरीका इन मुद्दों पर भारत के साथ मिलकर काम कर रहा है। उन्होंने इस बात से इंकार किया कि खोबरागडे मामले को लेकर दोनों देशों के संबंधों में कोई तनाव आया है। हालांकि उन्होंने इसे एक गम्भीर घटना बताया और कहा कि दोनों देशों को पिछली बातों को भूलकर साथ मिल-जुल कर काम करने की जरूरत है।

अमरीका और रूस के राष्ट्रपति यूक्रेन संकट के संभावित राजनयिक समाधान पर विचार विमर्श के लिए सीधे संपर्क में बने हुए हैं। श्री ब्लादिमीर पुतिन ने कल बराक ओबामा से लगभग एक घंटे फोन पर बातचीत की है। व्हाइट हाउस के प्रवक्ता के अनुसार दोनों नेताओं ने यूक्रेन संकट के राजनयिक समाधान के लिए अमरीकी प्रस्ताव पर विचार विमर्श किया। राष्ट्रपति ओबामा ने स्पष्ट कहा कि अगर रूस अपने सैन्य बल वापस बुलाता है तभी यह संभव हो सकेगा।
क्रेमलिन से जारी वक्तव्य में कहा गया कि राष्ट्रपति पुतिन ने कहा है कीव और विभिन्न स्थानों में चरमपंथी गुटों के अशांति फैलाने की लगातार बढ़ती घटनाओं को रेखांकित किया।

थाईलैंड में सरकारी विरोधी हजारों प्रदर्शनकारियों ने प्रधानमंत्री यंगलक छिनावत के त्यागपत्र की मांग को लेकर राजधानी बैंकाक के प्रमुख पार्क और कई अन्य स्थानों पर प्रदर्शन किए। महीनों चले विरोध प्रदर्शनों और आम चुनावों को अवैध घोषित करने के बाद शहर में धीरे-धीरे स्थिति सामान्य हो रही है। प्रदर्शनकारियों के नेताओं ने निकट भविष्य में दोबारा चुनाव की कोशिश के खिलाफ थाई अधिकारियों को चेतावनी दी है।

इस्राइली सेना ने सीरिया की सीमा से लगी गोलान की पहाड़ियों में सुरक्षा बाड़ को तोड़ने का प्रयास कर रहे दो संदिग्ध लोगों को गोली मारकर घायल कर दिया है। सेना के प्रवक्ता ने इन्हें घुसपैठिया बताया है।
इस्राइली विमानों ने गोलान पहाड़ियों में एक बम हमले में चार इस्राइली सैनिकों के घायल होने के बाद सीरिया को निशाना बनाया था।

संयुक्त राष्ट्र्र ने अफगानिस्तान में साफ-सुथरे चुनाव के प्रति अपनी वचनबद्धता व्यक्त करते हुए ५ अप्रैल को होने वाले राष्ट्रपति और प्रांतीय परिषद चुनावों में भाग लेने के इच्छुक सभी अफगान लोगों के साथ अपनी एकजुटता जताई है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र के शांतिरक्षक अभियानों के उप-महासचिव हर्वे लाडसॉस ने काबुल की अपनी तीन दिन की यात्रा के अंत में आगामी चुनावों को अफगानिस्तान में राजनीतिक बदलाव का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा बताया।

प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने यूपीए सरकार की पिछले १० साल की उपलब्धियों की चर्चा की। उन्होंने सिबसागर जिले के खुमटाई में चुनाव रैली को संबोधित करते हुए कहा है कि सरकार के कार्यक्रमों से लोगों को फायदा हुआ है और देश में गरीबी कम हुई है।

कांग्रेस के नेतृत्व में दूसरी यूपीए सरकार ने भी आप की उम्मीदों के मुताबिक काम करने की पूरी कोशिश की है। बहुत से क्षेत्रों में हमें बड़ी कामयाबियां मिली हैं लेकिन मैं ये भी मानता हूं कि कुछ क्षेत्रों में हम उतनी सफलता प्राप्त नहीं कर पाए जितनी हम चाहते थे।
 
मुद्रा स्फीति और मूल्य वृद्धि की चर्चा करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि अब ये स्थिर हैं और कीमतों को काबू में करने के लिए सार्वजनिक वितरण प्रणाली को मजबूत बनाया गया है।

राष्ट्रपति प्रणब मुखर्जी ने भारत में पोलियो उन्मूलन कार्यक्रम सफलतापूर्वक पूरा होने को एक बड़ी उपलब्धि बताया है। आज नई दिल्ली में रोटरी इंटरनेशनल द्वारा आयोजित पोलियो मुक्त सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि जब तक पोलियो पूरी दुनिया से खत्म नहीं हो जाता तब तक इसके वायरस के भारतीय क्षेत्र में पहुंचने की आशंका बनी रहेगी।

हमें उन देशों के बारे में सोचना चाहिए जहां अभी तक पोलियो वायरस पूरी तरह से खत्म नहीं हुआ है और वे उनकी इस बिमारी से लड़ाई अभी जारी हैं। उन देशों में बच्चों को इस बिमारी से पूरी तरह बचाने का काम अभी बाकी हैं। 
 
बृहस्पतिवार को विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन ने भारत को पोलियो मुक्त देश का दर्जा दिया है।

Sabir Ali, who yesterday joined BJP, has said that his party membership should be put on hold till Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi's allegations against him are cleared. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Ali said, he has written to BJP Bihar unit asking it to put his membership on hold. Hours after Ali was inducted into the party, BJP leader Naqvi, in a tweet, called him a friend of Indian Mujahideen terrorist Yasin Bhatkal. Naqvi alleged that Ali's name had figured in the murder case of music magnate Gulshan Kumar also.

BJP spokesperson Balbir Punj said that Sabir Ali's persona is totally inconsistent with the nationalist image of BJP.

"The decision to induct Mr. Sabir Ali into BJP has shocked millions of Bhartiya Janata Party Karyakartas, it's sympathisers and all the patriotic people of the country. Irrespective of the charges against Mr. Sabir Ali, his persona, his past is totally inconsistent with the nationalist image of the Bhartiya Janata Party. This decision must be reversed."

In Uttar Pradesh, arrested Congress candidate from Saharanpur, Imran Masood has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. He was produced before a local court at Deoband this morning seeking his judicial custody. After hearing the arguments between prosecution and defence, ACJM Ms Archana ordered his judicial remand. 

Masood was arrested last night in connection with a FIR lodged against him at Deoband police station for violation of election model code of conduct and objectionable remarks made by him against BJP leader Narendra Modi.

District Police Chief told our Allahabad correspondent that police has not made any request to the court for his remand as nothing has to be recovered from him.  Masood has said that the clipping of his remarks were not recent one but 7 months old. He said, if Modi apologises for 2002 Gujarat riots, he is ready to apologize for his remarks.

Meanwhile, BJP has urged the Election Commission to take strictest action against Imran Masood and his party. A party delegation led by BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today lodged a complaint to the Commission in this regard. Talking to reporters after submitting the complaint to the poll body in New Delhi, Naqvi said the inflammatory speeches have become the common style of various political parties in the current campaign particularly of the Congress, which may effect conduct of free and fair polls.

In Andhra Pradesh, hectic consultations are underway among political parties for electoral-alliances ahead of issuance of notification for general elections in Telangana region. Discussions at top level between TDP and BJP are continuing for a possible alliance while talks for seat sharing between Congress and CPI are in the advanced stage. An announcement is expected very soon regarding seat sharing between Congress and CPI. The TRS has almost ruled out the possibility of alliance with Congress while one of the registered parties, Lok Satta announced its preparedness to work with TDP. The election notification will be issued on 2nd April for 17 Lok Sabha and 119 Assembly seats in Telangana region.

The media fraternity in Arunachal Pradesh has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Congress, accusing it of offering money to journalists. The Arunachal Press Club and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist in their complaint yesterday alleged that Congress had offered cash to media persons during the release of party's manifesto in Itanagar on March 27 last. 

Taking suo-motu cognizance of press reports on the matter, Chief Electoral Officer Chandra Bhusan Kumar has sought a reply from the party.

With the issuance of notification, filing of nominations began today for 117 constituencies for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls spread over 11 states and the Union Territory of Puducherry. The constituencies are all 39 in Tamil Nadu, 19 in Maharashtra, 12 Uttar Pradesh, 10 Madhya Pradesh, 7 each in Chhattisgarh and Bihar, 6 each in Assam and West Bengal, 5 in Rajasthan, 4 in Jharkhand, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir and the lone seat in the Union Territory of Puducherry. 5th of next month will be last date for filing of nominations for this phase while scrutiny of papers will take place on 7th April.

In Assam, all major parties have announced their candidates for the sixth phase. Former Governor, State Transport  minister, son of former President of India and senior leaders of several parties are likely to file nomination papers in this phase. Meanwhile, official sources said that Village and Ward Awareness Groups have been formed involving non-political and eminent persons to create awareness and facilitate voters. Each group has three to seven members.

In Puducherry, arrangements have been made to file nomination papers with the Assistant Returning Officers in Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam also. Congress, All India N.R Congress, DMK, AIADMK, CPI, PMK and AAP have already announced their candidates.

Today is also the last date for withdrawal of candidatures in 128 Lok Sabha seats, 32 Assembly Constituencies of Sikkim and 77 Assembly seats in Odisha where elections will be held in Phase four and Phase five.

In Phase four elections are scheduled on the 12th April for seven Lok Sabha seats of which three are in Assam, two in Goa and one each in Sikkim and Tripura and 32 Assembly Constituencies of Sikkim.

Elections in 121 Lok Sabha seats spread over 12 states and 77 Assembly Constituencies of Odisha are set to be conducted in Phase five on the 17th of next month. The states are Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

In Manipur, a joint team of police commandos and Central paramilitary forces unearthed a militant hideout in Thoubal district yesterday. A large number of sophisticated arms were also seized. Police said, the militants fled before the forces reached the spot. The search was continuing in the area to track down the militants.

In Jammu & Kashmir, security forces today detected an IED planted by militants outside an Army camp in Srinagar. Police said, a patrol party of 151 Territorial Army noticed a bag lying by the roadside near an Army camp in Bemina area of the city. The army personnel found a pressure cooker inside the bag and immediately called for the bomb disposal squad which destroyed the five-kg IED.

The search for the crashed Malaysian jetliner continued today with fresh objects being spotted by planes scouring a new area of the southern Indian Ocean. Australian officials said, a Chinese ship is searching a new area of the Indian Ocean for objects spotted in the hunt for MH370. Aircraft are also travelling to the area, about 1,100 km north-east of the previous zone.

The Australian and Malaysian governments yesterday said that the search area had been changed following further analysis of radar data that showed the plane had been travelling faster, thus burning more fuel.

In Thailand, thousands of anti-government protesters have resumed demonstrations to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinavatra. Large crowds marched along several routes from the main park in the capital Bangkok. The city had been returning to normal after months of protests and a general election that was declared invalid. The leader of the demonstrators warned the Thai authorities against attempting to organise a re-run of the elections in the near future.

The Presidents of the United States and Russia have been in direct contact to discuss a possible diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine. Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin spoke for an hour in a phone conversation initiated by Putin. The White House said, the two leaders discussed the US proposal for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis in Ukraine, and President Obama made it clear that this is possible only if Russia pulls back its troops.

President Pranab Mukherjee has described the successful completion of polio eradication programme in India, as a landmark achievement. Inaugurating the Rotary International's Polio Free Conclave 2014 in New Delhi today, the President said that polio eradication has been a priority health objective of the government and was made possible due to the collective efforts of all the people associated with the programme. He said, unless the world is free of polio, there will be a risk of the virus creeping into India's territory.

लोकसभा चुनाव के पहले चरण में असम की पांच सीटों और त्रिपुरा की एक सीट के लिए नामांकन पत्रों की जांच का काम शुरू हो गया है। नामांकन २४ तारीख तक वापस लिये जा सकते हैं। इन सीटों पर ७ अप्रैल को वोट डाले जायेंगे।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि असम की पांच सीटों के लिए ५६ उम्मीदवारों ने नामांकन पत्र भरे हैं। लखीमपुर निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से सबसे अधिक १४ उम्मीदवारों ने पर्चे भरे हैं।

तमिलनाडु में एम डी एम के नेता वाइको ने आज चेन्नई में पार्टी का चुनाव घोषणापत्र जारी किया। घोषणापत्र में मृत्यु दंड की सजा ख़त्म करने की कोशिश करने और कोडनकुलम परमाणु संयंत्र को बंद करने पर दबाव डालने का वादा किया गया है।
घोषणापत्र में यह भी कहा गया है कि वह कावेरी नदी जल बटवारे की समस्या और मछुआरा समस्या के समाधान के लिए केन्द्र पर दबाव बनायेगी। इसमें श्रीलंका में पृथक ईलम पर जनमत संग्रह कराने का भी आग्रह किया गया है। एम डी एम के पार्टी का भारतीय जनता पार्टी से गठबंधन है जो दूसरी बार एन डी ए के नेतृत्व में है। पार्टी को सात सीटें आवंटित की गयी हैं।
देश भर में मोदी लहर कर जिक्र करते हुए श्री वाइको ने कहा कि अगला प्रधानमंत्री भारतीय जनता पार्टी का बनने की सम्भावना तमिलनाडु के ४० सीटों को शामिल किए बिना जताई गयी है।

कांग्रेस उपाध्यक्ष राहुल गांधी ने आज मध्यप्रदेश के मंडला जिले के पटपारा रैयत गांव में तेंदु पत्ता तोड़ने वाली आदिवासी महिलाओं से मुलाकात की। इन महिलाओं ने उन्हें अपनी समस्याओं के बारे में बताया और कम मजदूरी दिये जाने की शिकायत की।

आम आदमी पार्टी नेता अरविन्द केजरीवाल को आज हरियाणा के फरीदाबाद में काले झण्डे दिखाये गये। श्री केजरीवाल यहां रोड शो कर रहे थे। श्री केजरीवाल जब अपने कुछ समर्थकों के साथ फरीदाबाद पहुंचे तो कुछ स्थानीय निवासियों ने उन्हें काले झण्डे दिखाये और आम आदमी पार्टी के खिलाफ नारे लगाये ।

राष्ट्रपति प्रणव मुखर्जी ने आज नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रपति भवन में आयोजित रक्षा अलंकरण समारोह में रक्षाकर्मियों को उनकी उल्लेखनीय सेवाओं के लिर वीरता पुरस्कारों से सम्मानित किया। परम विशिष्ट सेवा पदक से १५ रक्षाकर्मियों को नवाजा गया। कीर्ति चक्र से तीन कर्मियों को सम्मानित किया है। उत्तम युद्ध सेवा पदक से दो तथा शौर्य चक्र से १० रक्षाकर्मियों को पुरस्कृत किया गया।
रक्षा अलंकरण समारोह में उपराष्ट्रपति हामिद अंसारी, प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह, रक्षामंत्री ए.के. एंटनी और कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी मौजूद थी।

मलेशिया ने लापता विमान की तलाश के लिए अमरीका से समुद्र की गहराई में काम करने वाले खोजी उपकरणों की मांग की है। यह विमान दो सप्ताह पहले लापता हो गया था। विमान में २३९ लोग सवार थे। पेंटागन के प्रेस सचिव ने कहा कि अमरीका के विदेश सचिव चक हेगल ने मलेशिया के रक्षा मंत्री और प्रभारी परिवहन मंत्री हिशामुद्दीन हुसैन को आश्वासन दिया है कि अमरीका इस प्रकार के कार्य के लिए समुद्र की गहराई में सैनिक प्रौद्योगिकी के इस्तेमाल और उपलब्धता की जांच करेगा और मलेशिया को जल्दी ही इस संबंध में जानकारी देगा।

लापता विमान की तलाश में ऑस्ट्रेलिया ने आज तीसरे दिन दक्षिणी हिन्द महासागर में अपने विमान और जहाज भेजे हैं। उपग्रह से प्राप्त नई तस्वीरों में पर्थ के दक्षिण-पश्चिम में दो हजार पांच सौ किलोमीटर दूर जल क्षेत्र में कुछ चीजें तैरती हुई दिखाई दी हैं।

मालदीव में आज १८वें संसदीय चुनाव के लिए मतदान शातिपूर्वक चल रहा है। खराब मौसम के कारण अद्दू एटॉल द्वीप में मतदाता मतदान केंद्रों पर नहीं पहुंच पा रहे हैं।
हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि मतदान स्थानीय समयानुसार शाम चार बजे खत्म होगा और इसके तुंरत बाद वोटों की गिनती का काम शुरू हो जायेगा। देर रात तक नतीजे मिल जाने की संभावना है।

मालदीव की संसद - मजलिस की ८५ सीटों पर मतदान जारी है। इनमें १३ राजधानी माले और ७ अद्दू अटोल में हैं जबकि बाकी ६५ सीटें विभिन्न टापुओं में बसी हैं। आज के चुनाव में ३०२ उम्मीदवार हैं जिनमें २३ महिला उम्मीदवार शामिल हैं। १९०० से अधिक स्थानीय पर्यवेक्षक और यूरोपियन संघ और राष्ट्रमंडल की दो टीमें चुनाव की निगरानी कर रही हैं। अभिषेक दयाल, आकाशवाणी समाचार, कोलंबो

रूस के राष्ट्रपति ब्लादीमीर पुतिन ने यूरोपीय संघ और अमरीका के ताजा प्रतिबंधों के बावजूद उक्रेन से क्राइमिया के अधिग्रहण संबंधी कानून पर औपचारिक हस्ताक्षर कर दिए हैं।
उधर, यूरोपीय संघ ने क्राइमिया प्रायद्वीप का रूस में विलय कराने से संबद्ध १२ लोगों को निशाना बनाया है। इससे पहले उक्रेन और यूरोपीय संघ ने राजनीतिक संबंध और मजबूत करने के लिए एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए।

बंबई शेयर बाजार का आज विशेष कारोबारी सत्र हुआ। सवा ग्यारह बजे से १२ बजकर ४५ मिनट तक चले विशेष सत्र में सेन्सेक्स दो अंक की वृद्धि के साथ २१ हजार ७५५ पर बन्द हुआ। इसी तरह निफ्टी में भी दो अंक की वृद्धि हुई और यह ६ हजार ४९५ पर बन्द हुआ। शेयर बाजार के साफ्टवेयर आदि का परीक्षण करने के लिए यह विशेष सत्र हुआ था।

आईसीसी ट्वेंटी-२० क्रिकेट विश्व कप में आज ग्रुप-एक के मैच में दक्षिण अफ्रीका का मुक़ाबला श्रीलंका से और इंग्लैंड का मुक़ाबला न्यूजीलैंड से होगा। दक्षिण अफ्रीका-श्रीलंका का मैच भारतीय समयानुसार दोपहर तीन बजे और इंग्लैंड-न्यूजीलैंड का मैच शाम सात बजे से शुरू होगा। दोनों मैच चटगांव में खेले जायेंगे।
