देश के १८ राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में लोकसभा की ९२ सीटों के लिए नामांकन भरने की आज आखिरी तारीख है। इनमें हरियाणा की सभी १०, केरल की सभी २० और दिल्ली की सभी सात सीटें शामिल हैं, जहां १० अप्रैल को मतदान होना है। महाराष्ट्र, ओड़िशा और उत्तर प्रदेश में दस-दस, मध्य प्रदेश में नौ, झारखंड में चार, छत्तीसगढ़, जम्मू कश्मीर, मिजोरम, नगालैंड, अंडमान निकोबार द्वीप समूह, चंडीगढ़ और लक्षद्वीप की एक-एक सीट के लिए भी आज नामांकन भरने का काम पूरा हो जाएगा। अरुणाचल प्रदेश और मेघालय में भी दो-दो सीट के लिए नामांकन भरने का काम आज समाप्त हो जायेगा।

लोकसभा चुनाव के पहले चरण में असम की पांच सीटों और त्रिपुरा की एक सीट के लिए नामांकन पत्रों की जांच का काम शुरू हो गया है। नामांकन २४ तारीख तक वापस लिये जा सकते हैं। इन सीटों पर ७ अप्रैल को वोट डाले जायेंगे।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि असम की पांच सीटों के लिए ५६ उम्मीदवारों ने नामांकन पत्र भरे हैं। लखीमपुर निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से सबसे अधिक १४ उम्मीदवारों ने पर्चे भरे हैं।

तमिलनाडु में एम डी एम के नेता वाइको ने आज चेन्नई में पार्टी का चुनाव घोषणापत्र जारी किया। घोषणापत्र में मृत्यु दंड की सजा ख़त्म करने की कोशिश करने और कोडनकुलम परमाणु संयंत्र को बंद करने पर दबाव डालने का वादा किया गया है।
घोषणापत्र में यह भी कहा गया है कि वह कावेरी नदी जल बटवारे की समस्या और मछुआरा समस्या के समाधान के लिए केन्द्र पर दबाव बनायेगी। इसमें श्रीलंका में पृथक ईलम पर जनमत संग्रह कराने का भी आग्रह किया गया है। एम डी एम के पार्टी का भारतीय जनता पार्टी से गठबंधन है जो दूसरी बार एन डी ए के नेतृत्व में है। पार्टी को सात सीटें आवंटित की गयी हैं।
देश भर में मोदी लहर कर जिक्र करते हुए श्री वाइको ने कहा कि अगला प्रधानमंत्री भारतीय जनता पार्टी का बनने की सम्भावना तमिलनाडु के ४० सीटों को शामिल किए बिना जताई गयी है।

मलेशिया ने लापता विमान की तलाश के लिए अमरीका से समुद्र की गहराई में काम करने वाले खोजी उपकरणों की मांग की है। यह विमान दो सप्ताह पहले लापता हो गया था। विमान में २३९ लोग सवार थे। पेंटागन के प्रेस सचिव ने कहा कि अमरीका के विदेश सचिव चक हेगल ने मलेशिया के रक्षा मंत्री और प्रभारी परिवहन मंत्री हिशामुद्दीन हुसैन को आश्वासन दिया है कि अमरीका इस प्रकार के कार्य के लिए समुद्र की गहराई में सैनिक प्रौद्योगिकी के इस्तेमाल और उपलब्धता की जांच करेगा और मलेशिया को जल्दी ही इस संबंध में जानकारी देगा।

मालदीव में आज १८वें संसदीय चुनाव के लिए मतदान शातिपूर्वक चल रहा है। खराब मौसम के कारण अद्दू एटॉल द्वीप में मतदाता मतदान केंद्रों पर नहीं पहुंच पा रहे हैं।

Four candidates of Congress and BJP contesting Lok Sabha elections from Delhi filed their nomination papers today. The candidates are Congress' Krishna Tirath and Ramesh Kumar and BJP's Manoj Tiwari and Ramesh Bidhuri.

Tirath, who is the Minister of Child and Women Development, is fighting the election from North West Delhi Lok Sabha seat where she faces BJP's Udit Raj and Aam Aadmi Party's Rakhi Bidlan. Ramesh Kumar is pitted against Devendra Sehrawat of Aam Aadmi Party and BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri for the South Delhi seat. G Tonsana of Manipur Democratic People's Front is the only candidate so far who has filed papers for the April-17th election in Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat, for which the last date of filing nomination papers is the 26th of this month. The last date for withdrawal of papers for both the constituencies is the 29th of this month.

The scrutiny of nomination papers for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls for five seats in Assam and one in Tripura has begun. The last date of withdrawal of nomination papers is the 24th of this month. Polling will be held on the 7th of next month in these seats.

Hitting out at BJP over the Advani ticket issue, Shiv Sena today questioned why the party took so long to decide on his Lok Sabha seat. In an editorial in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna' in Mumbai, party President Uddhav Thackeray said, while Narendra Modi's era has begun, it does not mean that it is the end of Advani's era. The editorial said, the BJP veteran's political character is without any blot and the relation that the veteran leader has with the masses is still intact.

Earlier the Shiv Sena decides to field its candidates in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections. Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut told reporters in Mumbai that Shiv Sena will field 20 candidates in Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar and will contest all seven seats in Delhi. He said the Shiv Sena is in alliance with the BJP in Maharashtra and not in Uttar Pradesh or other states. In Tamil Nadu, MDMK leader Vaiko today released the Party’s election manifesto in Chennai. The party manifesto promises that it would strive to cancel death penalty, and also to insist on the closure of Koodankulam nuclear plant. Malaysia has sought undersea surveillance equipment from the US to search the missing Malaysian plane, that disappeared two weeks ago with 239 people, including 5 Indians, on board. In Australia, five people have been killed in a fiery light plane crash at Caboolture airfield, north of Brisbane today. The Cessna 206 is understood to have been taking off with skydivers when it crashed and burst into flames. In Maldives, voting is on and is reported to be peaceful throughout the country for its 18th Parliamentary elections, with no incident of violence being reported from any polling station. The polling percentage is, however, low, as bad weather is keeping the voters away from polling stations in Addu Atoll island. Eight hour long polling will come to a close at 4 pm local time and counting of votes will start immediately. Our correspondent reports that the results are expected to be announced late tonight.

President Pranab Mukherjee presented gallantry awards to defence personnel for their distinguished services at a Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today. 15 personnel were conferred Param Vishist seva medals. The awardees include Lt. Gen. Ashok Singh of Infantry, Air Marshal Jaswinder Singh Chauhan of Air Force and Vice Admiral Niranjan Kumar Nadella. Three Kirti Chakra awards were also given and the recipients are Lt Commander Abhilash Tomy, Major Mahesh Kumar and Wing Commander Darryl Castelino. Castelino was awarded posthumously. Two Uttam Yudh seva medals and 10 Shaurya Chakra awards were also conferred on the defence personnel.

मुम्बई सत्र न्यायालय ने आज टेलीफोन आपरेटर दुष्कर्म मामले में सभी चार अभियुक्तों को उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई है। अदालत ने कल २२ अगस्त को एक फोटो पत्रकार और ३१ जुलाई को एक टेलीफोन आपरेटर के साथ सामूहिक दुष्कर्म के मामले में पांच अभियुक्तों को दोषी ठहराया था। दुष्कर्म के ये मामले पिछले वर्ष मध्य मुम्बई की शक्ति मिल में हुए थे।

अदालत ने विजय जाधव, मोहम्मद अंसारी, मोहम्मद कासिम शेख को दोनों मामलों में दोषी पाया है। इन तीनों के अलावा अदालत ने सिराज खान को २२ अगस्त को हुए फोटो पत्रकार सामूहिक दुष्कर्म मामले में और मोहम्मद अशफाक शेख को ३१ जुलाई को हुए टेलीफोन आपरेटर सामूहिक दुष्कर्म मामले में दोषी पाया है।
 
पत्रकार के साथ गैंगरेप के मामले में सजा २४ मार्च को सुनाई जायेगी। मुंबई के शक्ति मील कंपाउंड में हुए सामूहिक ब्लात्कार के दोनों मामलों में न्यायालय ने पांच आरोपियों को दोषी करार दिया था। गौरतलब है कि दोनों मामलों में दो नाबालिकों को मिलाकर सात लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया था जिनमें से तीन लोग दोनों मामलों में शामिल हैं। दो नाबालिक आरोपियों के मामले की सुनवाई किशोर व न्याय बोर्ड कर रहा है। स्वीटी कोठारी, आकाशवाणी समाचार, मुंबई।

लोकसभा चुनाव के पहले चरण में असम की पांच और त्रिपुरा की एक सीट के लिए नामांकन पत्र भरने का आज आखिरी दिन है। नामांकन पत्रों की जांच कल की जायेगी। इन निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में ७ अप्रैल को मतदान होगा।

मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त वी एस सम्पत आज लखनऊ में उत्तर प्रदेश के सभी जिलाधिकारियों और वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारियों के साथ चुनाव तैयारियों की समीक्षा के लिए बैठक कर रहे हैं। निर्वाचन आयुक्त एच एस ब्रह्मा और नसीम जै+दी तथा आयोग के अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारी बैठक में मौजूद हैं। पूर्ण निर्वाचन आयोग चुनाव तैयारियों की समीक्षा के लिए राज्य के दो दिन के दौरे पर हैं।

हमारे लखनऊ संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि आयोग दोपहर बाद मुख्य सचिव जावेद उस्मानी और राज्य के मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी उमेश सिन्हा तथा अन्य वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के साथ भी बैठक करेगा। आयोग के अधिकारी कल राजनीतिक दलों के प्रतिनिधियों से मिले थे। भारतीय जनता पार्टी, बहुजन समाज पार्टी और कांग्रेस के नेताओं ने ऐसे अधिकारियों को हटाने की मांग की जो कथित रूप से सत्तारूढ दल के नजदीकी हैं।

पूर्व केन्द्रीय मंत्री और कांग्रेस नेता बूटा सिंह राजस्थान में जालौर संसदीय निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से समाजवादी पार्टी के टिकट पर चुनाव लड़ेंगे। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि बिहार के पूर्व राज्यपाल और राष्ट्रीय अनुसूचित जाति आयोग के पूर्व अध्यक्ष और आठ बार सांसद रहे बूटा सिंह जालौर से कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार के रूप में चार बार चुनाव जीते हैं। पहली बार वे वहां से १९८४ में चुने गये थे। २००९ के चुनावों के बाद उन्हें कांगे्रस से निकाल दिया गया था, लेकिन पार्टी ने राजस्थान विधानसभा के पिछले चुनावों के दौरान उनका निलम्बन समाप्त कर दिया था।

उत्तर प्रदेश में कैराना निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से राष्ट्रीय लोकदल के उम्मीदवार करतार सिंह भडाना और दो अन्य के खिलाफ आचार संहिता के उल्लंघन का मामला दर्ज किया गया है। इन पर चुनाव प्रचार के दौरान जमालपुर गांव में एक डांस पार्टी आयोजित करने का आरोप है। शामली जिले में बहुजन समाज पार्टी के उम्मीदवार कवर हसन और समाजवादी पार्टी के प्रत्याशी नाहिद हसन के खिलाफ भी आचार संहिता के कथित उल्लंघन के मामले दर्ज हुए हैं।

मध्य प्रदेश में प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष और खण्डवा लोकसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से उम्मीदवार अरूण यादव के खिलाफ आचार संहिता के उल्लंघन का मामला दर्ज किया गया है। उन पर १२ अप्रैल को खरगौन जिले के झीरनिया में एक उत्सव के दौरान ढोल वालों को दो सौ रूपये बांटने का आरोप है।

राजस्थान के टौंक जिले में बीसलपुर बांध में एक नौका पलट जाने से आठ लोगों की मौत हो गयी और चार लोग घायल हो गए। तीन लोग लापता हैं। नौका में पन्द्रह लोग सवार थे।

मेघालय के पश्चिमी खासी पर्वतीय जिले में कल रात आए चक्रवाती तूफान में चार लोगों की मौत हो गयी और ४१ घायल हो गए। दस गांवों के एक सौ तिरानवें मकान पूरी तरह नष्ट होने से कई लोग बेघर हो गए हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि घायलों को नोंगस्टोन और शिलांग के सिविल अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है।
 
राहत और बचाव के कार्य जारी हैं। लेकिन डिप्टी कमीशनर एस.आर लिंगदोह के अनुसार कल रात चार राहत शिविर बनाए गए थे और कुछ आज बनाये जा रहे हैं। मेघायल सरकार ने आपदा से निपटने के लिए ५० लाख रूपये जारी किये हैं। इसके अलावा मृतकों के परिवारजनों को डेढ़ लाख रूपये की सहायता दी जायेगी। जिले के डिप्टी कमीशनर पहले ही १० लाख रूपये राहत और बचाव कार्यों के लिए जारी कर चुके हैं। क्षतिग्रस्त इलाकों में राहत के कार्यों में स्थानीय एनजीओ भी सहायता कर रहे हैं। जिला के बड़े अधिकारी नुकसान का जायजा लेने के लिए मौके पर पहुंच गए हैं। प्रशांत शर्मा, आकाशवाणी समाचार, शिलांग।

भारतीय प्रशासनिक सेवा के निलम्बित अधिकारी प्रदीप शर्मा ने गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय में अपील दायर करके राज्य में आतंकवाद विरोधी दस्ते द्वारा एक महिला आर्किटेक्ट की जासूसी की जांच और एफ आई आर दर्ज करने का अनुरोध किया है। श्री शर्मा के वकील के अनुसार उच्च न्यायालय में याचिका कल दायर की गई और इस पर अगले सप्ताह सुनवाई होने की उम्मीद है। याचिका में न्यायालय से आग्रह किया गया है कि वह पुलिस को एफ आई आर दर्ज करके घटना की जांच करने का निर्देश दे।

अफगान पुलिस ने पुष्टि की है कि राजधानी काबुल में कल रात एक पांच सितारा होटल पर हुए हमले में ९ लोग मारे गये जिनमें ४ विदेशी भी हैं। नवरोज की पूर्व संध्या होने के कारण होटल में विदेशियों समेत कई लोग नया साल मनाने के लिए मौजूद थे। रात के वक्त हमलावरों ने होटल के रेस्तरां में मेहमानों पर हमला किया, मगर सुरक्षा बलों ने चारों को मार गिराया। मृतकों में कुछ बच्चे और महिलाएं भी शामिल हैं। दो सुरक्षाकर्मी भी हमले के दौरान घायल हुए। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि तालिबान ने हमले की जिम्मेदारी ली है।

अफगानिस्तान में कल के दो भीषण आतंकी हमलों से यह साफ हो जाता है कि आगामी ५ अप्रैल को होने वाले राष्ट्रपति और प्रांतीय परिषदों के चुनाव अफगान सरकार के लिए कितनी बड़ी सुरक्षा चुनौती है। इस बार का राष्ट्रपति चुनाव अफगानिस्तान के लिए खास अहमियत रखता है क्योंकि देश के इतिहास में पहली बार लोकतांत्रिक तरीके से चुना गया एक राष्ट्रपति, दूसरे निर्वाचित नेता को सत्ता की बागडोर सौंपेंगे। चुनाव प्रक्रिया में बाधा डालने के उग्रवादियों की धमकियों के मद्देनजर अफगान सुरक्षा बलों के लिए अपनेी क्षमता साबित करने का सही वक्त आ गया है क्योंकि अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सेना लगभग समूचे देश की हिफाजत की जिम्मेदारी अफगान सुरक्षा बलों को सौंप चुकी है। -काबुल से राजेन्द्र उपाध्याय की रिपोर्ट के साथ दिल्ली से मैं कनकलता।

मलेशिया के लापता विमान के मलबे के स्थान पर खोज के लिए अनेक देशों के विमान और जहाज फिर से लग गए हैं, अनुमान है कि यह मलबा लापता विमान का हो सकता है। पांच सैनिक और नागरिक विमान मलबे की खोज के काम में लगे हुए हैं, आठ मार्च को लापता हुए विमान में दो सौ ३९ लोग सवार थे। उपग्रह से लिए गए चित्रों में ऑस्ट्रेलिया के पर्थ शहर के दक्षिण पूर्व में समुद्र में मलबे की पहचान की गई थी। खराब मौसम की वजह से कल खोज का काम रोक दिया गया था।

बम्बई शेयर बाजार का संवेदी सूचकांक आज शुरूआती कारोबार में एक सौ तीस अंक की बढ़त के साथ २१ हजार ८७० पर खुला। अब से कुछ देर पहले सेन्सेक्स २३ अंक बढ़कर २१ हजार ७६३ पर था। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी १४ अंक की वृद्धि के साथ ६ हजार ४९७ पर था। अन्तरबैंक विदेशी मुद्राबाजार में रूपया आज डॉलर के मुकाबले २८ पैसे मजबूत हुआ। एक डॉलर की कीमत ६१ रूपये ०६ पैसे बोली गई।

आज विश्व कविता दिवस है। युनेस्को ने प्रति वर्ष २१ मार्च को कवियों और कविता की सृजनात्मक महिमा को सम्मान देने के लिए यह दिवस मनाने का निर्णय किया है। इस अवसर पर आज नई दिल्ली में भारत सरकार के संस्कृति मंत्रालय और साहित्य अकादमी की ओर से आयोजित सबद-विश्व कविता उत्सव का उद्घाटन किया गया। चार दिवसीय कविता उत्सव २४ मार्च तक चलेगा।

A Mumbai Sessions court today pronounced life imprisonment for all four convicts in the telephone operator gang-rape case. The court had yesterday convicted five persons for the gang-rape of the photojournalist on August 22nd and a telephone operator on July 31st last year that took place at the Shakti Mills located in central Mumbai. Our correspondent reports that Principal Sessions Judge Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi has pronounced the quantum of sentence in telephone operator gang-rape case only.

"Four convicts in the Shakti Mills telephone operator gang rape case were today sentenced to life imprisonment by a Mumbai Sessions court. The court, meanwhile, adjourned the hearing on the quantum of punishment to the convicts in the photojournalist gang rape case till March 24. While reading out the sentence of one of the convicts in the telephone operator case, the court said that the offence of rape is brutal and is a violation of the survivor's right to life. Over seven months after the gang rape of two women in the abandoned Shakti Mills compound in Mumbai, five persons were yesterday held guilty by the Sessions court. A total of seven persons including two minors, were arrested in connection with the two gang rapes involving a telephone operator and a photojournalist in July-August 2013. Three of the convicts are common to both the cases. Two minors, one in each case, are being tried by the Juvenile Justice Board separately."SWEETY KOTHARI/AIR NEWS/MUMBAI."

The crime branch that investigated both cases submitted a 362 page chargesheet in the telephone operator case on October 8 last year, while a 600 page chargesheet was filed in the photojournalist case on September 19.

Today is the last day for filing of nomination papers for five Lok Sabha seats in Assam and one in Tripura. Polling in these constituencies will be held on the 7th of next month. In Assam, the constituencies going to the polls in the first phase are Tezpur, Kaliabor, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Jorhat. Our Guwahati correspondent reports on the latest electioneering scenario.

"The filing of nomination process will come to end at 3 pm today. DoNER minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar, Union minister for State Rani Narah, state BJP President Sarbananda Sonowal and Asom Gana Parishad candidate Arun Sarma have submitted their nomination papers. Scrutiny of nominations will be done tomorrow. The last date of withdrawal of nomination papers is 24th of this month. 64 lakh voters can exercise their voting rights in the first phase. Meanwhile, campaigning gets momentum in the state. Political parties are holding rallies to attract voters. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is attending meeting in Barpeta district. With less than a day left for closing of nominations for 92 Lok Sabha constituencies spread over 18 states and union territories, political activity is gaining momentum with candidates rushing to file their papers. Nominations will close tomorrow for all ten seats in Haryana, 20 constituencies in Kerala and all seven seats in Delhi which go to the polls on the 10th of next month. Filing of nominations will also end tomorrow for ten seats each in Maharashtra, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh, nine in Madhya Pradesh, four in Jharkhand and one each in Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland and one each in the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh and Lakshadweep. Filing of papers will also come to close tomorrow for two seats each in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.

Tomorrow is the last date for filing of nominations for all the 60 seats of Arunachal Pradesh assembly and 70 Assembly Constituencies in Odisha.

Six candidates from Congress, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party contesting Lok Sabha elections from Delhi filed their nomination papers today. The candidates are Congress' Mahabal Mishra, BJP's Harsh Vardhan and Aam Aadmi Party, AAP's, Ashutosh, Rakhi Bidlan, Rajmohan Gandhi and Devendra Sehrawat.

The Shiv Sena decides to field its candidates in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections. Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut told reporters in Mumbai that Shiv Sena will field 20 candidates in Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar and will contest all seven seats in Delhi.

The Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampat is holding a review meeting about election preparedness in Uttar Pradesh with all the District Magistrates and senior police officials in Lucknow today. Election Commissioners HS Bramha and Naseem Zaidi and other senior officers of the commission are present at the meeting. The Election Commission panel is on a two day visit of UP to review the Loksabha poll preparations in the state.

Our Lucknow correspondent reports that the full election commission will hold the review meeting this afternoon with Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani, and State Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha and other senior officers. Yesterday, the poll panel met with the representatives of recognised political parties. The leaders of BJP, BSP and Congress had reportedly demanded the removal of certain officials who were alleged to be close with the leaders of the ruling party.

Meanwhile, the police have seized one crore twenty four lakh Rupees in Muzaffarnagar late last night. A statement from election office says that over one lakh twelve thousand litres of illicit liquor have been confiscated so far in the state which could have been used to lure the prospective voters. Besides, over one thousand two hundred illegal arms, around three thousand live cartridges and 190 Kilograms of explosives have also been seized in the state since the announcement of Lok Sabha elections.

Still in Uttar Pradesh a case of violation of the Model Code of Conduct has been registered against the Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate for Kairana constituency, Kartar Singh Bhadana and two others. Bhadana was booked over allegations of holding a dance party at Jamalpur village during election campaigning. Police said cases of alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct were also registered against BSP candidate Kawar Hasan and SP contestant Nahid Hasan in Shamli district.

In Madhya Pradesh, a case of violation of the model code of conduct has been registered against state Congress president and party candidate from Khandwa Lok Sabha constituency Arun Yadav. He had allegedly distributed two hundred rupees to a drummer during a local festival in Jhirnia of Khargone district on 12th of this month .

In Meghalaya, four persons died and 41 injured when a severe cyclonic storm hit West Khasi Hills District late last night. 193 houses in ten villages were completely destroyed leaving several people homeless. The injured persons were admitted to Nongstoin and Shillong Civil Hospitals. More from our correspondent:

"Relief operations in the cyclone hit areas of the West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya are in full swing. The Deputy Commissioner S. Kharlyngdoh has informed that more Relief Camps will be set up today in addition to the four that were constructed last night. The Government of Meghalaya today, sanctioned an amount of Rupees 50 lakh for the affected families. This amount is in addition to Rupees 1.5 lakh which will be given to the next of kin of the deceased. The Deputy Commissioner of districts, has also sanctioned Rupees 10 lakh. In Rajasthan, 8 persons died and 3 are missing in a boat mishap in Bisal-pur Dam in Tonk district today. 4 persons were injured when their boat capsized in the dam. 15 persons were travelling in the ill-fated boat.

A three member BJP delegation today met Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde demanding proper security to its leaders in view of Lok Sabha elections. Talking to reporters later Ravi Shankar Prasad who led the delegation said, the party gave a memorandum to the Home Minister expressing apprehensions over the media reports of security threats. Mr Shinde had categorically said yesterday that the government has no information regarding terror threat to BJP leaders.

Suspended IAS officer Pradeep Sharma has moved Gujarat High Court seeking registration of an FIR and a probe into the snooping on a woman architect by state anti-terrorist squad. Pradeep Sharma had earlier approached Gandhinagar police and requested to lodge an FIR in connection with the incident against those involved in snooping on him as well as the architect, but the police did not register the complaint. According to Sharma's lawyer, the petition was filed in the high court yesterday and is likely to come up for hearing next week.

In Afghanistan, 9 civilians including 4 foreigners were killed in an attack on a hotel in the capital Kabul last night. Police said, four youths sneaked into the high security 5-star hotel in the evening hiding pistols inside their socks and feigning as hotel guests. Being Nowroz eve, a number of guests including foreigners were present at the hotel to celebrate Afghan New Year. The assailants attacked the guests in the restaurant, before all the four were gunned down by the Afghan security forces. The casualties include children and women guests present in the hotel at the time of shoot out. At least two security guards have also been wounded in the incident. Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. More from our correspondent:-

Aircraft and ships from several countries have resumed their search for debris that may have come from the missing Malaysian Airliner. Five military and civilian aircraft are taking part in the search for debris from flight MH370, which disappeared on the 8th of March with 239 people on board. Satellite images released yesterday showed objects possibly related to the plane in waters far south-west of the Australian city of Perth. Bad weather hampered yesterday's search.

EU leaders meetings in Brussels added 12 more names to an existing list of 21 Russian and Crimean officials, subjected to visa bans and asset freezes. Earlier, the United States announced sanctions against 20 Russians, all close to President Putin.

The United Nations says the number of people seeking asylum in industrialised countries rose by 28 percent last year. Figures released by the UN's Refugee Agency show there were more than 6 lakh applicants, the highest total for ten years. The largest number were from Syria.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gave almost all its initial gains in afternoon trade, to stand just 3 points in positive territory, at 21,743 a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, the Sensex had jumped 130 points, on fresh buying by funds and retail investors, amid a firm global bourses.

Moving in line with equity market, the rupee today recovered by 28 paise to 61.06 against American currency in morning trade on fresh selling of dollars by banks and exporters due to weakness of the US unit in the overseas market. A forex dealer said, Persistent capital inflows from foreign funds into equity market also boosted the rupee value against the dollar.

In the ICC Twenty-20 Cricket World Cup Opener, India will take on arch rivals Pakistan today at Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. All India Radio will broadcast the live commentary of the match, alternately in Hindi and English on the Rajdhani and FM Gold Channels from 6:30 PM. India is placed in Group-2 with Pakistan, defending champions West Indies, in form Australia and hosts Bangladesh. आमतौर पर राजनेता होली को जनसंपर्क के अचूक अवसर की तरह उपयोग में लाते रहे हैं। लेकिन इस बार लोकसभा चुनाव की घोषणा हो जाने की वजह से आचार संहिता लागू हो गई है।

इससे नेताओं के हाथ बंध गए हैं। इस बार होली मिलन समारोहों पर चुनाव आयोग की भी नजरें हैं और यदि नेता इन समारोहों में हिस्सा लेते हैं तो इन आयोजनों उनके या पार्टी के चुनाव खर्च में जोड़ा जा सकता है।

इसी तरह सीबीएसई की बोर्ड परीक्षाओं के बीच पड़ी इस होली ने बहुत से छात्रों की होली को फीका कर दिया है।
