Later, the International Day was officially recognised by the United Nations in 1975. In India, the Government is promoting the weaker section in many ways including 33 per cent reservation for women in a bill in parliament. In the ongoing Cricket World Cup, New Zealand have won the toss and elected to bat first  against  Pakistan in pool 'A' day night match at Kandy, Srilanka.  Both the teams have played three matches each in the tournament so far. While  Pakistan have won all the three games, the Kiwis are two points behind their rivals today at this stage of the championship. Our correspondent that, though Pakistan are the favourites today, New Zealand may put up a better show at Kandy where the pitch is likely to help fast bowlers.
If New Zealand are able to put their home series defeats by Bangladesh and India, and more recently, by Pakistan to the back burner, they may come out smiling from Kandy's Pallekele Stadium  today where the weather is going to be fine with no prediction of rain as it played spoilsport in Colombo last Saturday during the Australia-Srilanka game . Going by the present ODI rankings, Pakistan have a slender edge being placed just one notch above the 7th ranked New Zealand, though on a pace looking wicket Tim Southee, Kyle Mills and  Harmish Bennett, ably supported by Franklin and Styres may break the upper tier of Pakistan batting whose openers Hafeez and  Shehzad are yet to come out of their shaky form in this World Cup in the sub-continent. On the other hand, if the wicket breaks in the later half, it would be interesting to watch the spinning captains of both the sides Afridi and Vittorey making due purchase from it against the side batting second on the surface.

In a possible breakthrough in the fight against cancer, scientists claim to have discovered evidence that the body's immune cells often share information about foreign substances with each other to keep off invaders.
An international team, led by the Australian National University, has in fact found that immune cells responding to foreign substances, or pathogens, are able to rapidly transfer their ability to recognise the invader to other immune cells.
And, harnessing this process may lead to new ways to treat cancerous tumours as well as strengthen the immunity in patients with weaker immune systems, say the scientists. Team leader Prof Chris Parish said, the discovery revolutionises our understanding of how the immune system works. It indicates that there is much more communication and sharing of information between cells of the immune system than was previously thought.
