सेशल्स के जल क्षेत्र में लगभग ग्यारह महीने से अपहृत जहाज सहित ग्यारह भारतीयों को सोमाली समुद्री डकैतों ने मुक्त कर दिया। अन्य देशों के बारह लोगों को भी छोड़ दिया गया है। जहाजरानी मंत्रालय के सूत्रों ने बताया है कि एम.वी. राक अफ्रीकाना जहाज और इसके चालक दल को मुक्त कर दिया गया है, लेकिन यह जहाज अब भी सोमाली जल क्षेत्र में है। जहाज में कुछ तकनीकी समस्या आ गई है, जिसको ठीक करने में कुछ समय लग सकता है।

हवाला कारोबार और कर चोरी के आरोपी पुणे के व्यापारी हसन अली खान की हिरासत और एक दिन के लिए बढ़ा दी गई है। मुम्बई की विशेष अदालत ने हसन अली को रिमांड पर लेने की प्रवर्तन निदेशालय की अर्जी पर सुवाई कल तक के लिए टाल दी। विशेष प्रधान न्यायाधीश एम.एल तहलियानी ने प्रवर्तन निदेशालय के अधिकारियों को फटकार लगाते हुए कहा कि वे हसन अली के खिलाफ पक्का मामला बनाने में कामयाब नहीं रहे। न्यायाधीश ने अधिकारियों से मामले में और तैयारी करने को कहा। हालांकि हसन अली ने अदालत के सामने खुद को बेगुनाह बताया।
रियल एस्टेट के सलाहकार और घोड़ा व्यापारी हसन अली को सोमवार को हवाला मामलों में गिरफ्तार किया गया था। अली के पुणे और मुम्बई स्थित ठिकानों पर छापेमारी और उससे सघन पूछताछ के बाद
प्रवर्तन निदेशालय ने उसे गिरफ्‌तार किया। अली पर आरोप है कि उसने स्विस बैंकों में आठ अरब डॉलर का काला धन जमा कर रखा है। हसन अली पर चालीस हजार करोड़ रुपये की कर चोरी के भी आरोप हैं।

दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने टू जी स्पैक्ट्रम आवंटन घोटाले में गिरफ्‌तार पूर्व दूरसंचार सचिव सिर्द्धाथ बेहूरा की जमानत की सुनवाई १५ मार्च तक टाल दी है। उसी दिन अदालत सी बी आई की गिरफ्‌तारी के बाद बेहूरा के बेैंक खातों पर रोक हटाने के मामले पर फैसला सुनाएगी।

उच्चतम न्यायालय ने इदमलयार बांध मामले में केरल के पूर्व बिजली मंत्री आर.बालाकृष्णन पिल्लई और सरकारी कर्मचारी पी.के. संजीव की जमानत नामंजूर कर दी है। अदालत ने उनके एक वर्ष के कठोर कारावास की सजा की समीक्षा करने की मांग भी खारिज कर दी।
पी.सतशिवम और बी.एस. चौहान की पीठ इस मामले में एक अन्य दोषी रामभद्रन नायर की समीक्षा याचिका पर कल सुनवाई करेगी। इससे पहले उच्चतम न्यायालय ने पूर्व मंत्री को इदमलयार बांध में पावर टनल बनाने के केरल राज्य बिजली बोर्ड के एक ठेके में सांठ-गांठ करने का दोषी पाया था। इससे बिजली बोर्ड को दो करोड़ रुपये से अधिक का नुकसान हुआ था।

मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त ने चुनाव में खर्च की निगरानी, धन-आगमन, शराब वितरण, खाद्य उपहार और टोकन इत्यादि के विषय में एक व्यवस्थित निगरानी तंत्र के बारे में आज राजनीतिक दलों को जानकारी दी। आगामी पांच राज्यों में विधानसभा चुनाव के मद्देनजर मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त डॉक्टर एस.वाई.कुरैशी ने राजनीतिक दलों के प्रतिनिधियों को संबोधित करते हुए यह बात कही। उन्होंने कहा कि चुनाव आयोग चाहता है कि नए प्रावधानों को राजनीतिक दल भली-भांति समझ लें, ताकि उल्लंघन की घटना न हो।

उधर, पश्चिम बंगाल राज्य निर्वाचन कार्यालय के विशेष सचिव ने कोलकाता में कहा है कि विधानसभा चुनाव के दौरान उम्मीदवारों के प्रचार साहित्य को ढोने वाले वाहनों को आयोग से विशेष परमिट लेनी होगी। उम्मीदवार आयोग के जरिये इस ढुलाई की कीमत अदा करेंगे।

महाराष्ट्र मंत्रिमंडल ने आज स्थानीय निकायों में महिलाओं के लिए पचास प्रतिशत आरक्षण के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दे दी है। राज्य मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक के बाद मुख्यमंत्री पृथ्वीराज चव्हाण ने इस आशय की घोषणा की। उन्होंने कहा कि इससे सम्बन्धित एक विधेयक विधानसभा के आगामी बजट सत्र में पेश किया जायेगा।

दिल्ली में कल दिन-दहाड़े एक छात्रा की गोली मारकर हत्या की घटना का मामला आज संसद में उठा। राजधानी में महिलाओं के खिलाफ बढ़ते अपराधों पर सदस्यों ने सरकार से बयान देने की मांग की। जैसे ही लोकसभा की कार्यवाही शुरू हुई, भारतीय जनता पार्टी के शाहनवाज+ हुसैन ने यह मामला उठाया। उन्होंने गृहमंत्री पी. चिदंबरम से बयान देने की मांग की।
प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय में राज्यमंत्री वी. नारायणसामी ने कहा कि वे यह बात गृहमंत्री तक पहुंचा देंगे।
राज्यसभा में विपक्ष के नेता अरुण जेटली चाहते थे कि सरकार इस मुद्दे पर बयान दें।
दिल्ली में कल २१ वर्षीया राधिका की उसके कॉलेज के बाहर सरेआम गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी गई और उसके कुछ ही अंतराल में एक बुजुर्ग महिला की भी उसके घर में हत्या कर दी गई।

कांग्र्रेस ने कहा है कि किसी संस्था के कार्य का आंकलन एक घटना के आधार पर नहीं आंका जा सकता है। दिल्ली में एक छात्रा की हत्या का हवाला देते हुए पार्टी प्रवक्ता मनीष तिवारी ने आज कहा कि दिल्ली पुलिस अपना कार्य अच्छी तरह से कर रही है और जल्द ही मामले का पता लगा लेगी।

जहां तक कानून व्यवस्था का सवाल है। कानून व्यवस्था की जिम्मेवारी जो दिल्ली का पुलिस प्रशासन है उसके ऊपर है। इसलिए हम उम्मीद करते हैं कि इस मामले में भी पुलिस जल्द से जल्द कार्रवाई करेगी जो आरोपी है। उसको पकड़ा जायेगा और सख्त से सख्त सजा दी जायेगी।

सरकार, चीन के सीमावर्ती भारतीय क्षेत्रों में बुनियादी विकास कार्यों पर विशेष ध्यान दे रही है। यह देश की सुरक्षा तथा सामरिक दृष्टि को ध्यान में रखते हुए किया जा रहा है। लोकसभा में एक प्रश्न के जवाब में विदेश मंत्री एस.एम.कृष्णा ने कहा कि सरकार को मालूम है कि चीन, भारत से लगती तिब्बत और स्वायतशासी क्षेत्र षिनचियांग में बुनियादी विकास के कार्यों पर जोर दे रहा है। इसमें छिनघाई-तिब्बत रेललाइन और सड़क तथा हवाई अड्डों की सुविधा शामिल है।

केर्न्दीय गृहमंत्री ने राज्यसभा में बताया कि १३ राज्यों को बाढ़ राहत के लिए चुना गया है। इनमें ओड़ीशा और आंध्रप्रदेश शामिल हैं। श्री पी चिदम्बरम ने बंताया कि यह योजना चरणबद्ध लागू होगी। उन्होंने बताया कि केन्द्र ने राज्य में राहत के लिए राष्ट्रीय आपदा कारवाई कोष -एन डी आर एफ से पांच अरब नौ करोड़ रुपए मंजूर किए हैं।

सरकार ने कहा है कि एन्ट्रिक्स-देवास मामले की उच्चस्तरीय जांच पूरी होने के बाद जिम्मेदार व्यक्तियों पर कार्रवाई की जाएगी। लोकसभा में प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय में राज्यमंत्री वी.नारायणसामी ने कहा कि इस विवादास्पद सौदे को रद्द करने से सरकारी खज+ाने को कोई नुकसान नहीं पहुंचा है, क्योंकि एन्ट्रिक्स और देवास दोनों को ही कोई स्पैक्ट्रम नहीं दिया गया था।

मुम्बई शेयर बाजार का सेंसक्स आज उथल-पुथल भरे कारोबार में ३० अंक की मामूली बढ़त के साथ १८ हजार ४७० अंको पर बंद हुआ। एशिया के बाजारों में मजबूती और कच्चे तेल के मूल्यों में कमी आने के चलते बाजार ने अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया। नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्‌टी १० अंक बढ़कर ५ हजार ५३१ अंकों पर पहुंच गया। डॉलर के मुकाबले रूपया आज ८ पैसे मजबूत हुआ। एक डॉलर की कीमत ४५ रूपये एक पैसे दर्ज की गई। राजधानी के सर्राफा बाजार में आज सोना १० रूपये गिरकर २१ हजार २६० रूपये प्रति दस ग्राम पर आ गया।

पश्चिम एशिया के कई देशों में सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शन जारी है। यमन में कल साना विश्वविद्यालय के पास प्रदर्शन कर रहे लोगों पर पुलिस ने आंसू गैस के गोले फेके और रबड़ की गोलिया चलाई, जिससे घायल हुए एक व्यक्ति की मौत हो गई। उधर, बहरीन में भी प्रदर्शनकारी लगातार पर्ल चौक पर जमा है।

यमन और बहरीन में प्रदर्शनों का सिलसिला जारी है जबकि कई अन्य देशों में प्रदर्शनों की जहां सुगबुगाहट है वहीं कई देशों में शासक अपने देशों के लोगों की मांगों को पूरा करने का प्रयास कर रहे है। यमन में ३२ सालों से शासनरत राष्ट्रपति साले के खिलाफ पिछले तीन हफ्‌तो से ज्यादा समय से लोग सड़कों पर हैं। वहीं बहरीन के पर्ल चौक पर प्रदर्शनकारी संवैधानिक राजतंत्र और लोकतंत्र की मांग को लेकर धरने पर बैठे हुए हैं। ओमान में भी छोटे पैमाने पर प्रदर्शन हुए हैं लेकिन यहां प्रदर्शनकारी सुल्तान का समर्थन करते हुए उनसे भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ निर्णायक कदम की मांग करते हुए। आर्थिक समस्याओं का हल चाहते हैं।

लीबिया में मोहम्मद गद्दाफी की सेना के टैंक, देश के पश्चिमी जाविया शहर में जारी लड़ाई में आज शामिल हो गए। उनके लड़ाकुओं ने पूर्वी तेल बंदरगाह रास लानुफ को घेर लिया है, क्योंकि अमरीका और उसके पश्चिमी सहयोगी देशों की लीबिया के ऊपर उड़ान वर्जित क्षेत्र बनाने की की योजना हैं।

पाकिस्तान में गड़बड़ी वाले उत्तर पश्चिम क्षेत्र में एक आत्मघाती हमले में ३७ लोग मारे गये और ६० से अधिक घायल हुए। आत्मघाती हमलावर ने पेशावर के पास अदेजई कबाइली इलाके में तालिबान विरोधी शांति समिति के नेता हकीम खान की पत्नी के जनाजे के जुलूस को निशाना बनाया। हमलावर युवक पैदल था और पेशावर से ३५ किलोमीटर दक्षिण में स्थित मट्टानी में दफनाने के लिए एकत्र हुए लोगों में वह शामिल हो गया और अपने आपको उड़ा लिया। करीब दो सौ कबाइली लोग इस जनाजे में शामिल थे।

Somali Pirates have released eleven Indians along with a ship, nearly eleven months after they were hijacked in Seychelles waters. Twelve persons of other nationalities were also released. A source` in the Shipping Ministry said that the ship 'MV Rak Afrikana' and its crew members have been freed but the ship is still in the Somali waters. The ship has developed some technical snag and will take some time to sail again.

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna today made a statement in the Lok Sabha on the issue of Indian sailors abducted by Somali pirates. Sharing the concern of the members in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Krishna said that everything possible is being done to secure their safe release. He said, Somali pirates had made 79 Indians hostage and seven ships were in their custody. Mr. Krishna said, he held talks with the Egyptian Ambassador in India for securing the release of eight Indian nationals as the deadline set by the pirates, expires today. He said, discussions are also on with the owner of the ship who is an Egyptian national.

Earlier, the Leader of the Opposition, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj asked the government to seek support in dealing with the growing menace of piracy.

Voicing concern over the heightened activities of pirates, the US today said, it looked at India as a possible strategic partner in checking the menace. US Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer said in New Delhi that the US has also been affected by piracy as four of its citizens were killed recently.

Accused of money laundering and tax evasion, Pune businessman Hasan Ali Khan’s custody has been extended by one more day. Mumbai’s Special Court, while hearing the Enforcement Directorate's application seeking Khan’s remand adjourned the hearing till tomorrow after asking the ED to do some more homework in the case. Special Principal Judge M L Tahiliyani slammed the ED officials, saying they were unable to frame specific charges against Hasan Ali.

The hearing on the bail plea of former Telecom Secretary Siddhartha Behura, arrested for his role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, was deferred by a Delhi court today till the 15th of this month. Special CBI judge O P Saini deferred the hearing on Behura's counsel's request to hear his bail plea on March 15th when the court is also slated to adjudicate his plea to defreeze his bank account, frozen by CBI after his arrest. Behura, former Telcom Minister A. Raja and his personal secretary R K Chandolia had been arrested for allegedly misusing their official positions in allocating spectrum licences to various ineligible telecom operators.

The Maharashtra Cabinet today approved a proposal for 50 per cent reservation for women in local self-government bodies in the state. Making the announcement, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said, a Bill to this effect will be introduced in the ensuing budget session of the state legislature. NCP, a coalition partner in the Congress-led State Government, had already proposed an increase in the quota for women in local bodies from 33 to 50 per cent.

Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has said that the comments of former Minister of State for Personnel and present Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan in the appointment of ex-chief vigilance commissioner P J Joseph, are misleading and incorrect. In a strongly worded statement issued at Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Achuthanandan said that vigilance clearance to PJ Thomas was not given by the Kerala Government as stated by Chavan. The Odisha Government has moved the Supreme Court, against the Centre's decision to disallow bauxite mining in the Niyamgiri Hills for Vedanta's 5,000-crore rupee alumina refinery at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district. The move of the Odisha Government came six months after Union Environment and Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh withdrew permission to Orissa Mining Corporation to mine the eco-sensitive Niyamgiri Hills, home to the primitive Dongaria Kondh tribals, on August 24 last year.

Union minister for communications and information technology, Kapil Sibal today said, the government is committed to make the postal services more people friendly. Inaugurating an e-post office in New Delhi, Mr. Sibal said, the e-post office is an ambitious project as it is the e-commerce portal of India Post. The portal will enable the customers to transact postal business any time and from anywhere, using either debit card or credit card through the medium of internet. Mr. Sibal said that one of the focus areas of the first phase of e-post office, is the money order service. Our correspondent reports, the first phase of the e-post office launched, will now offer electronic money order, instant money order, sale of philatelic stamps and tracking of express and international shipments.

In Pakistan, at least 37 mourners were killed and over 60 injured today when a suicide bomber attacked a funeral attended by members of an anti-Taliban militia in the troubled northwest. The bomber targeted the funeral prayers of the wife of Hakeem Khan, a leader of the "peace committee" or anti-Taliban militia of Adezai, a tribal area near Peshawar, the capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Over 200 tribesmen were attending the funeral.

About one thousand passengers flew back home in three special flights this morning. Protests in Yemen and Bahrain continue while people in some other countries are asking for reforms. Several countries in the region are trying to meet some of the demands of protesters, undertaking political and economic steps. Yemen has been rocked by more than three weeks of protests against the president who is in power for more than 32 years, while demonstrators in Bahrain are camping at Pearl Square calling for sweeping political reforms that include establishment of constitutional monarchy with elected government. Oman is also facing protests but protestors who are supporting their sultan want him to address the economic issues and firm action to end of corruption.

Quoting police sources AIR Bhuj correspondent reports that accident occurred when a private luxury bus collided head on with a speeding truck near deshalpar village ,25 kilometers from Bhuj. All the injured were shifted to Bhuj general hospital where the condition of five are stated to be critical.

The Chief Election Commissioner today informed political parties that a detailed mechanism has been put in place for monitoring of expenditure, cash flow, distribution of liquor, food gifts and tokens, etc. in the five states going to polls. Dr. S. Y. Quraishi, while addressing representatives of political parties from these states, said that the Commission was keen that political parties have clear understanding of the new provisions so that there is no violation. He urged political parties to avoid cash transaction and called for opening separate bank accounts for election expenses as per the guidelines of the poll panel. Dr. Quraishi said, the institution of state and district level committees to keep a watch on paid news will come into force from tomorrow. Election Commissioner V. S. Sampat and H. S. Brahma also clarified doubts of political parties regarding new rules and regulations.
