 क्रिकेट विश्वकप का बहुप्रतिक्षित दूसरा सेमीफाइनल इस समय मोहाली में भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच चल रहा है।  आज के इस महा-मुकाबले को देखते हुए सुरक्षा व्यवस्था के चौकस इंतज+ाम किए गए हैं।  स्टेडियम में हज+ारों दर्शकों के साथ इस मुकाबले को देखने के लिए देश-विदेश की कई जानी-मानी हस्तियां मौजूद हैं।  भारतीय प्रधानमंत्री डा. मनमोहन सिंह, श्रीमती सोनिया गांधी, राहुल गांधी, आई.सी.सी अध्यक्ष शरद पवार और पाकिस्तानी प्रधानमंत्री युसुफ रज+ा गिलानी भी दोनो टीमों की हौंसला-अफज+ाई के लिए स्टेडियम में आए हुए हैं।  मैच से पूर्व दोनों देशों के प्रधानमंत्री और खिलाड़ियों का आपस में परिचय कराया गया।
  कप्तान महेन्द्र सिंह धोनी ने टॉस जीतकर पहले बल्लेबाजी का फैसला किया है।  भारतीय टीम में आर अश्विन की जगह आशीष नेहरा खेल रहे हैं, जबकि पाकिस्तान ने वही टीम रखी है जिसने क्वार्टर-फाइनल में वेस्ट-इंडीज+ को हराया था।  अंतिम विश्वकप खेल रहे शोएब अख्तर को पाकिस्तानी टीम में शामिल नहीं किया गया है।
 हमारे संवाद्दाता ने खबर दी है कि दोनों देशों के बीच दो दिन की गृह सचिव स्तर की बातचीत के रचनात्मक परिणामों स,े आज दोनों देशों के प्रधानमंत्रियों के बीच रात्रि भोज पर होने वाली बातचीत के लिए उपयुक्त माहौल बना है।

 आज सुबह मोहाली के लिए रवाना होने से पहले श्री गिलानी ने भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच बातचीत फिर शुरू होने पर प्रसन्नता व्यक्त की थी और कहा था कि वे और डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह इस क्षेत्र में शांति और समृद्धि के लिए काम करने को वचनबद्ध हैं। श्री गिलानी ने कहा कि उन्हें खुशी है कि दोनों देशों के बीच गृह सचिव स्तर की बातचीत रचनात्मक रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि दोनों देशों के प्रधानमंत्री माहौल में सुधार चाहते हैं ताकि वे अपने लोगों के लिए काम कर सकें।

 भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के महासचिव ए.बी. बर्धन ने मोहाली में पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री के साथ बातचीत करने की डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह की पहल का स्वागत किया है। तिरूअनन्तपुर में प्रेस से मिलिए कार्यक्रम में श्री बर्धन ने कहा कि यह भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच संबंधों को सुधारने की दिशा में अच्छा कदम है, लेकिन उन्होंने कहा कि दोनों देशों को इस उद्देश्य को प्राप्त करने के लिए कई बाधाओं को दूर करना होगा।

 क्रिकेट विश्व कप का उत्साह मध्यप्रदेश में चरम पर है। हमारे भोपाल संवाददाता ने बताया है कि राज्य विधानसभा ने सेमीफाइनल मैच में सफलता के लिए भारतीय क्रिकेटरों को शुभकामनायें दी हैं।

    वर्ल्ड कप सेमीफाइनल मैच के प्रति लोगों का उत्साह देखते हुए मध्यप्रदेश सरकार ने आज अपने कार्यालयों में आधे दिन के अवकाश की घोषणा की है। मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने राज्य विधानसभा में बताया कि मैच के दौरान अबाधित बिजली सप्लाई के लिए एक हजार मेगावाट अतिरिक्त बिजली खरीदी जा रही है। इस बीच राज्य विधानसभा की कार्यवाही आज दोपहर एक बजे ही स्थगित कर दी गई। ताकि विधायक भी इसका आनंद ले सकें।
 कुछ विधायकों ने क्रिकेट मैच देखकर मोहाली में भारतीय क्रिकेटरों के साथ अपनी एकजुटता प्ररर्शित की। वहीं विधायक पाटीलाल मेडा लोगों के आकर्षण का केंद्र बने हुए हैं। उन्होंने भारतीय टीम की जीत के लिए मन्नत बतौर सुबह दस से लेकर रात दस बजे तक खड़े रहने का संकल्प लिया है।

 झारखण्ड में भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम के कप्तान महेन्द्र सिंह धोनी के शहर रांची और आसपास के इलाकों में बड़े सवेरे से विशेष पूजा-अर्चना की जा रही है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि रांची के निकट तमार में प्रसिद्ध देवरी मंदिर में भारत की जीत के लिए विशेष पूजा आयोजित की गई। धोनी जब भी रांची जाते हैं, इस मंदिर में दर्शन करने जरूर जाते हैं। आज उनकी तरफ से उनके प्रशंसकों ने भारतीय टीम की शानदार सफलता के लिए पूजा अर्चना की।

 बच्चे, युवा, बुजुर्ग, गृहणियां, पेशेवर, आम आदमी या मशहूर हस्तियां यहां तक की राजनेता सभी को क्रिकेट के रंग में रंगे हैं। दफ्‌तर में कामकाज ठप हो रहा है। कई प्राइवेट कंपनियों ने तो आधी छुट्टी कर दी है।ं मैट्रों, बसें और सड़कें सभी पर रोज की तरह भीड़ नदारद है। कई होटलों और दूसरी जगहों पर बड़े-बड़े स्क्रीन लगाये गये हैं। कई लोग प्रार्थनायें कर रहे हैं। इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच आज के क्रिकेट मैच सबकी जुबान और दिलों में है। जहां दोनो पड़ोसी देशों के प्रधानमंत्री जहां मोहाली में इस क्रिकेट मैच को देख रहे हैं वहीं पर करोड़ों की संख्या में लोग भारत और पाकिस्तान में लोग आज टीवी पर मैच देखनें के लिए तैयार हैं। देश में हर कोई भारतीय टीम की जीत चाहता है।

जाहिर है पाकिस्तान के आवाम अपनी टीम की जीत चाहेंगे लेकिन किसी न किसी एक टीम को तो हारना है ही लेकिन आखिरकार जीत खेल की ही होगी।

 प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा है कि आतंकवाद से उत्पन्न खतरों से निपटने के लिए आंतरिक सुरक्षा एजेंसियों को बेहतर बुनियादी सुविधाओं से लैस करना होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि इन एजेंसियों की भूमिका बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है, क्योंकि आतंकवाद किसी विशेष भौगोलिक क्षेत्र तक सीमित नहीं है। नई दिल्ली में आज विशेष सुरक्षा गार्ड- एसपीजी के २६वें स्थापना दिवस के मौके पर उन्होंने चेतावनी दी कि आतंकवादियों के पास सेना के समान सभी आधुनिक संसाधन मौजूद हैं। उन्होंने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि पुलिस तथा अन्य सुरक्षा बलों को इनसे मुकाबला करने के लिए अपनी रणनीति को अधिक बेहतर करना होगा और अपनी कार्यकुशलता बढ़ानी होगी। डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि भारत लगभग तीन दशकों से सीमापार से चलाए जा रहे आतंकवाद का मुकाबला कर रहा है और शांति और स्थिरता बनाए रखने के लिए आंतरिक सुरक्षा एजेंसियों की भूमिका आज बहुत अधिक महत्वपूर्ण हो गयी है।

 राष्ट्रीय जांच एजेंसी- एनआईए ने समझौता एक्सप्रेस विस्फोट मामले की जांच में बड़ी सफलता हासिल की है। एक सरकारी प्रेस विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार पिछले वर्ष दिसम्बर में एक मुख्य साजिशकर्ता की गिरफ्‌तारी के बाद ये कामयाबी मिली, जिसने विस्फोट के आपराधिक षड़यंत्र में शामिल होने की बात कबूली। उसने अन्य लोगों के नाम भी बताए हैं।  जांच पड़ताल अभी जारी है। केन्द्र सरकार के निर्देश पर एनआईए ने समझौता एक्सप्रेस विस्फोट मामले की जांच पिछले वर्ष २९ जुलाई से शुरु की थी।

 दिल्ली की एक अदालत ने टू जी स्पेक्ट्रम मामले के अभियुक्त शाहिद बलवा के रिश्ते के भाई आसिफ बलवा और राजीव बी अग्रवाल को एक अप्रैल तक सीबीआई की हिरासत में दे दिया है। उन्हें इस घोटाले में कथित भूमिका के लिए गिरफ्‌तार किया गया था। सीबीआई ने यह कहते हुए उनकी हिरासत की मांग की थी कि वे आपराधिक षड़यंत्र के तथ्यों और परिस्थितियों के बारे में नहीं बता रहे हैं। सीबीआई के वकील अखिलेश ने अदालत को बताया कि इन दोनों अभियुक्तों के जरिये दो अरब रूपये सिनेयुग फिल्म्स से कलैग्नार टीवी प्राइवेट लिमिटेड को स्थानांतरित किये गये। राजीव अग्रवाल और आसिफ बलवा कुसेगांव फ्रूट्स एण्ड वेजीटेब्लस के निर्देशक थे। इसके अलावा आसिफ डी बी रियल्टी प्राइवेट लिमिटेड का भी निदेशक था, जो डायनमिक रियल्टी को साझेदार है। सीबीआई ने अदालत को बताया कि १९ दिसम्बर २००८ को सिनेयुग फिल्म्स और कलैग्नार टीवी के बीच एक समझौता हुआ था, जिसके बारे में दोनों अभियुक्तों ने अब तक कुछ नहीं बताया है।

 झारखंड में कोडरमा जिला अदालत ने पत्रकार निरुपमा पाठक के पुरुष मित्र और भाई की अग्रिम जमानत याचिकाएं खारिज कर दी हैं। निरुपमा पाठक पिछले वर्ष अप्रैल में कोडरमा में अपने घर में मृत पाई गई थी। पुलिस ने पहले जो रिपोर्ट दायर की थी, उसके अनुसार निरुपमा के मित्र प्रियाभांशु रंजन और भाई समरेन्द्र पाठक को उसे आत्महत्या के लिए उकसाने का दोषी बताया गया था। पिछले ११ महीने की जांच के दौरान पुलिस को हत्या का कोई सबूत नहीं मिला है और फोरेंसिंक लैब ने निरुपमा के आत्महत्या से पहले लिखे पत्र को  सही पाया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि पुलिस ने अभियुक्तों की गिरफ्‌तारी का वारंट जारी करने के लिए अदालत से आदेश मांगा था। अदालत ने यह आदेश दे दिया था, जिसके बाद अभियुक्तों ने अग्रिम जमानत  की याचिका दायर की थी।

 तमिलनाडु में चुनाव प्रचार जोरों पर है। निर्वाचन आयोग ने राज्य भर में पहली बार मतदाताओं को मतदाता पर्चियां वितरित करना शुरू कर दिया है। आज नाम वापिस लेने का अंतिम दिन है। शाम तक उम्मीदवारों की अंतिम सूची जारी कर दी जाएगी। हमारे संवाद्दाता ने खबर दी है कि वीडियो के ज+रिये निगरनी, पुलिस के फ्लाइंग स्क्वाड द्वारा काले धन का पता लगाये जाने और आयकर विभाग के अचानक छापों का चुनाव प्रचार पर असर पड़ा है। चुनाव प्रचार पर रखी जा रही कड़ी नज+र पर राजनीतिक दलों ने मिलीजुली प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त की है।
 निर्वाचन आयोग ने मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय के सामने कहा है कि तलाशी और छापे कानून के अनुसार ही मारे जा रहे हैं।
 हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि चुनाव प्रचार में अब राजनीतिक नेताओं के साथ फ़िल्मी हस्तियां भी शामिल हो गई हैं।  
 
 तमिलनाडु में फिल्मों से जुड़ी हस्तियों की लोकप्रियता इस कदर है कि उन्हें भगवान जैसा ही दर्जा ही मिला हुआ है। यही वजह है कि तमिल सिनेमा से राजनीति में आने वालों के लिए दरवाजे हमेशा खुले रहते हैं। जहां डीएमके के संस्थापक अन्ना दुरई ने ग्रामीण विचारधारा को तमिल सिनेमा में जगह दिलाई वहीं उनके शिष्य एम करूणानिधि ने १९५२ में पराशक्ति में अपने जबरदस्त डॉयलॉग के जरिये सिनेमा की ताकत को राजनैतिक शक्ति में बदल दिया। सिल्वर स्क्रीन में सबकी भलाई करने वाले नायक एम जी रामचंद्रन को अपनी इस छवि का फायदा राजनीति में भी खूब मिला और तमिल राजनीति में एक दशक तक छाये रहे। एम जी आर की तमाम फिल्मों में उनके साथ मुख्य अभिनेत्री का किरदार निभाने वाली जयललिता को भी राज्य की राजनीति में सिनेमा ने ही जगह दिलाई। स्टार राजनीति में केंद्रीत इस दक्षिणी राज्य की राजनीति में दो लोकप्रिय सितारों डीएमडी के संस्थापक विजय कांत और एआईएसएम के नेता शरद कुमार के आ जाने से स्टार राजनीति की  चमक और बढ गई है। राजनीति में निगाह रखने वाले मानते हैं कि मुख्यमंत्री चाहे करूणानिधि हों या जयललिता एक बात तो तय है कि तमिलनाडु में कोई फिल्मी हस्ती ही मुख्यमंत्री होगी और राज्य में सिनेमा और राजनीति का यह दिलचस्प गठजोड़ अभी जारी रहेगा।

 केरल में अगले महीने होने वाले विधानसभा चुनावों में नाम वापस लेने का आज अंतिम दिन है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि  कुल एक हजार ३७३ उम्मीदवारों ने नामांकन पत्र दाखिल किए, जिनमें से एक हजार १८६ परचे जांच के बाद सही पाए गए हैं। चुनाव अगले महीने की १३ तारीख को होगा।

 प्रदेश में आज शाम तक नामांकन वापसी है और इसी के बाद सभी राजनयिक क्षेत्रों में हालांकि तस्वीर स्पष्ट होगी। लेकिन प्रमुख    दलों जैसे वामपंथी पार्टियों और भाजपा के साथ ही कांग्रेस के शीर्ष नेताओं के दौरे से चुनाव प्रचार में गति आ गई है। भारतीय कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के महासचिव ए बी वर्धन चुनाव प्रचार के सिलसिले में प्रदेश के दौर पर हैं क्योंकि भाजपा नेता सुषमा स्वराज भी  चुनाव सभा को संबोधित करने के लिए तिरूवनंतपुरम पहुंचने वाली हैं। उधर कांग्रेस के शीर्ष नेता भी चुनाव प्रचार में जुट गये हैं। इसी बीच वामपंथी दल के कुछ नेताओं का एक पत्रकार और उसके अलावा कुछ मतदाताओं के साथ कथित विवाद भी यहां मुद्दा बनता जा रहा है। इन सबके बीच दो हफ्‌ते बाद राज्य में होने वाले मतदान के लिए मतदाताओं को अपने पक्ष में करने को विभिन्न दलों के वरिष्ठ नेता भी इसमें सक्रिय हो गये हैं।

 पश्चिम बंगाल में विधानसभा चुनाव के दूसरे चरण के लिए आज अधिसूचना जारी कर दी गई है। इस चरण में २३ अप्रैल को मुर्शिदाबाद, नदिया और बीरभूम जिलों की ५० सीटों के लिए मतदान कराया जाएगा। पहले चरण के लिए नामांकन भरने का काम भी चल रहा है। कल तक १७७ पर्चे दाखिल किये जा चुके थे। पहले चरण में उत्तरी बंगाल के छह जिलों की ५४ सीटों के लिए १८ अप्रैल को मतदान होगा।
 हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि राज्य में स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव सुनिश्चित करने की तैयारियां चल रही हैं।

 निवार्चन आयोग ने कहा है कि राज्य में स्वतंत्र और निष्पक्ष चुनाव कराने का पुरजोर प्रयास किया जा रहा है। मतदान के लिए राज्य पुलिस की ओर से ६६० अर्द्धसैनिक बलों के जवान तैनात किये गये हैं। जिससे शांति व्यवस्था कायम रहे। आयोग ने पहली बार १२ पुलिस प्रेक्षकों को संवेदनशील इलाकों में निगरानी के लिए भेजा है। आयोग की तरफ से माओवादी ग्रसित जिलों बाकुड़ा, पुरूलिया, दक्षिण मिदनापुर में विशेष ध्यान दिया जा रहा है। किसी भी दुर्घटना से निपटने के लिए बारूदी सुरंग विरोधी विमान और हवाईजहाजों को रखा गया है।

 असम में बराक घाटी के १५ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों का प्रचार अभियान मुख्य रूप से विकास के मुद्दे पर आधारित है। सभी राजनीतिक दलों का मानना है कि यह राज्य का सबसे पिछड़ा हुआ इलाका है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि २००३ की मानव विकास रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि घाटी के तीनों जिलों में मानव विकास के आंकड़े राज्य के औसत स्तर से नीचे हैं।

 ग्रामीण विकास मंत्रालय ने गांव के लोगों के कल्याण के लिए नई और कम खर्च वाली प्रौद्योगिकी पर जोर दिया है। नई दिल्ली में काउंसिल फॉर एडवांसमेंट ऑफ पीपुल्स एक्शन एण्ड रूरल टैक्नोलॉजी-कापार्ट की कार्यकारी समिति की ५५वीं बैठक को संबोधित करते हुए ग्रामीण विकास तथा पंचायती राज मंत्री विलासराव देशमुख ने विभिन्न विकास योजनाओं के समन्वय पर जोर दिया, ताकि गांवों के विकास कार्यो में निरन्तरता बनी रहे और पर्यावरण को भी नुकसान न हो। श्री देशमुख ने कहा कि कापार्ट की क्षेत्रीय समितियों को मजबूत बनाना बहुत जरूरी है, ताकि क्षेत्र विशेष के स्थानीय मुद्दों पर ध्यान दिया जा सके।
 ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों के सतत्‌ विकास के लिए सरकारी तथा स्वैच्छिक संगठनों के बीच साझेदारी बढ़ाने और उनमें सामंजस्य स्थापित करने के उद्देश्य से १९८६ में कापार्ट का गठन किया गया था।

 सरकार देश के प्रत्येक जिले में जेनरिक दवाइयों की दुकानें खोलने पर विचार कर रही है। आकाशवाणी के साथ विशेष बातचीत में दवा और उर्वरक राज्यमंत्री श्रीकांत जैना ने कहा कि वे स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय से अनुरोध करेंगे कि सरकारी अस्पतालों के डॉक्टरों को जेनरिक दवाओं के नुस्खे लिखने के लिए निर्देश जारी करे, क्योंकि ये दवाएं ब्रांडिड दवाओं की तुलना में काफी सस्ती और कारगर होती हैं।

 म्यामां के सैनिक शासकों ने लगभग ५० वर्ष बाद असैन्य सरकार को आज सत्ता सौंप दी। सत्तारूढ़ सैन्य सरकार को भंग कर दिया गया है और नए राष्ट्रपति की नियुक्ति की गई है। म्यामां के सरकारी टेलीविजन ने खबर दी है कि सैनिक सरकार की शांति और विकास परिषद- ैच्क्ब् को आधिकारिक रूप से भंग कर दिया गया है। टेलीविजन ने सेना के वरिष्ठ जनरल थान श्वे  के हस्ताक्षर वाले एक आदेश के हवाले से बताया कि श्री ऊ था शिन को राष्ट्रपति पद की शपथ दिलाई गई है। दो उपराष्ट्रपतियों- ऊ था आंग मिन ऊ तथा डॉक्टर साइ मौक खाम को भी पद की शपथ दिलाई गई। शपथ ग्रहण समारोह आज नई राजधानी छ।ल् च्ल्प् ज्।ॅ में हुआ, जिसमें संसद सदस्य शामिल हुए। इस बीच, जनरल मिन आंग हेलिंग को सेना का नया कमांडर इन चीफ नियुक्त किया गया है।
 सरकारी रेडियो और टेलीविजन के अनसुार राष्ट्रपति ऊ थी शिन ने रक्षामंत्री, गृहमंत्री और विदेशमंत्री सहित कुल ३० केबिनेट मंत्री नियुक्त किए हैं। खबरों में १९९२ से देश की सत्ता पर काबिज रहे श्री थान श्वे को सैन्य सरकार की पार्टी एसपीडीसी का महज अध्यक्ष ही बताया गया है।

 नेपाल की संविधान समिति ने आज दूसरी बार अपनी उप समिति का कार्यकाल बढ़ा दिया है। आज सवेरे काठमांडु में संविधान समिति की बैठक में उपसमिति का कार्यकाल १४ अप्रैल तक बढ़ाने का फैसला किया गया। २५ फरवरी को गठित इस उपसमिति का कार्यकाल कल समाप्त हो गया था।
 यू सी पी एन माओवादी ने कहा था कि उप समिति में पार्टियों के शीर्षस्थ नेताओं को सदस्य के रूप में शामिल नहीं किया जाना चाहिए। अन्य पार्टियां इससे सहमत नहीं थी। उपसमिति के अध्यक्ष माओवादी प्रमुख पुष्पकमल दहाल हैं। यह उपसमिति अब तक कई विवादित मुद्दों को हल कर चुकी है, लेकिन सरकार के गठन और राष्ट्र के पुनर्गठन का मामला अभी सुलझाना बाकी है।

  नेपाल में भारत के राजदूत राकेश सूद ने कल तीन परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन किया। ये परियोजनाएं पश्चिमी नेपाल में भारत सरकार की चार करोड़ ६७ लाख रूपये की सहायता से बनाई गई हैं। इनमें से एक, व्यापार और पर्यटन की दृष्टि से महत्वपूर्ण महेन्द्रनगर की सड़कों के निर्माण और रख-रखाव की परियोजना है, जिससे जिले के ८० हजार निवासियों को लाभ हुआ है। इसके अलावा श्री राकेश सूद ने महेन्द्रनगर में जानकी स्कूल के भवन का भी उद्घाटन किया, जो कंचनपुर जिले का लड़कियों का एकमात्र सैकेण्डरी स्कूल है। एक अन्य स्कूल भवन का भी उद्घाटन किया गया, जिससे छह सौ छात्रों की पढ़ाई की व्यवस्था हो सकेगी।

 जापान ने आज कहा है कि भूकम्प से क्षतिग्रस्त फुकुशिमा दाइची परमाणु बिजलीघर के संकट का तत्काल कोई अन्त नहीं नजर आ रहा। बिजलीघर के आसपास रिएक्टर से रिसाव के कारण समुद्र के पानी में रेडियोधर्मी आयोडिन का स्तर अचानक बहुत बढ़ गया है। बिजलीघर की मिट्टी में प्लूटोनियम का पता चलने से भी चिन्ता बढ़ गई है। १९८६ में उक्रेन में हुई चेर्नोबिल परमाणु दुर्घटना के बाद से यह विश्व की भीषणतम परमाणु त्रासदी है।
 फ्रांस और अमरीका विकिरण से निपटने में जापान की सहायता कर रहे हैं। ११ मार्च को पूर्वोत्तर जापान में आए भूकंप और त्सुनामी में मृत या लापता लोगों की संख्या २७ हजार पांच सौ से अधिक बताई गई है।

 इण्डोनेशिया में आतंकवाद रोधी अधिकारियों ने बताया है कि २००२ में बाली में हुए बम विस्फोट की साजिश रचने वालों में से एक को पाकिस्तान में गिरफ्‌तार कर लिया गया है। इण्डोनेशिया की खुफिया पुलिस के प्रमुख ने कहा कि पाकिस्तानी अधिकारियों ने उमर पतेक नाम के इस व्यक्ति को पकड़ लिया है। ऑस्ट्रेलिया और अमरीका सहित कई देशों में वांछित अपराधियों की सूची में उसका नाम शामिल है। पाकिस्तान के अधिकारियों की ओर से इस गिरफ्‌तारी की तत्काल कोई पुष्टि नहीं की गई है।

 पाकिस्तान में आत्मघाती बम विस्फोट में आज कम से कम सात लोगों की मौत हो गई और १८ घायल हो गये। देश के गड़बड़ी वाले पश्चिमोत्तर इलाके में एक पुलिस चौकी के निकट हुई इस घटना में कट्टरपंथी जमीयते-उलेमा-ए-इस्लाम के प्रमुख मौलाना फ़जलुर्रहमान बच गये हैं। जिला प्रशासन प्रमुख सैयद अब्दुल जब्बार शाह ने बताया कि खैबर-पख्तूनख्वा सूबे के स्वाबी इलाके की एक पुलिस चौकी के पास से मौलाना फजलुर्रहमान के काफिले के गुजरने के कुछ ही मिनट बाद मोटरसाइकिल पर सवार आत्मघाती हमलावर ने अपनी जैकेट विस्फोट से उड़ा दी। इस शक्तिशाली विस्फोट से मरने वाले सात लोगों में एक पुलिस अधिकारी भी शामिल था। प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों का कहना है कि अधिकतर हताहत जमीयते-उलेमा-ए-इस्लाम के समर्थक थे, जो मौलाना का स्वागत करने पुलिस चौकी पर जमा थे।
 घायलों में से सात की हालत गंभीर है। किसी भी गुट ने इस विस्फोट की जिम्मेदारी नहीं ली है। इस घटना से राजनीतिक प्रेक्षक हैरान हैं, क्योंकि जमीयत को तालिबान समर्थक समझा जाता है। पाकिस्तान के प्रधानमंत्री युसुफ रजा गिलानी ने विस्फोट की कड़ी निंदा की है और इसे आतंकवादियों की अमानवीय कार्रवाई बताया है। उन्होंने कहा कि ऐसे लोगों की नजर में मानव जीवन या धर्म का कोई सम्मान नहीं है। श्री गिलानी ने कहा कि ऐसी गतिविधियों से आतंकवाद को जड़ से उखाड़ फैंकने के सरकार के संकल्प पर कोई असर नहीं होगा।

 उत्तरी इराक में तिकरित में प्रांतीय परिषद की इमारत पर हमले में कम से कम ४१ लोग मारे गए हैं। कुछ बंदूकधारी परिषद की इमारत में घुस गए और दर्जनों लोगों को बंधक भी बना लिया।  खबर है कि मृतकों में परिषद के कई सदस्य और एक पत्रकार शामिल हैं और बहुत से लोग घायल हुए हैं। तिकरित सद्दाम हुसैन का गृह नगर       है और सुन्नियों का गढ़ है। सरकारी सूत्रों ने कहा है कि सैनिकों की वर्दी      में आए बंदूकधारियों के प्रांतीय परिषद की इमारत पर धावा बोलने से पहले इमारत के बाहर एक आत्मघाती मानव बम ने विस्फोट किया। तिकरित में कर्फ्यू लगा दिया गया है।

 अमरीका का कहना है कि वह लीबिया में कर्नल गद्दाफी को सत्ता से हटाने के विभिन्न तरीकों पर विचार कर रहा है। लेकिन उसने इसके लिए सैन्य बल के प्रयोग से इन्कार किया है। व्हाइट हाउस के प्रैस सचिव जे कार्नी ने वाशिंगटन में कहा कि कर्नल गद्दाफी सत्ता में रहने के योग्य नहीं हैं और उन्हें हट जाना चाहिए। श्री कार्नी ने कहा कि अमरीका ऐसे तरीके अपना रहा है, जिससे गद्दाफी अलग-थलग पड़ जाएं और लीबिया के लोग खुद अपना भविष्य तय कर सकें।

बम्बई शेयर बाजार के शुरूआती कारोबार में आज सेन्सेक्स में १५३ अंक की वृद्धि हुई। पिछले लगातार छह सत्रों में सेन्सेक्स में एक हजार २७७ अंक की बढ़ोतरी हुई है। कारोबारियों का कहना है कि संस्थागत निवेशकों की ताजा लिवाली, एशियाई बाजारों में मजबूत रूख तथा कच्चे तेल के भाव गिरने के कारण बाजार में तेज+ी बनी हुई है। अब से कुछ देर पहले यह --१३३---अंक की वृद्धि के साथ १९----- हजार--२५३--- पर था।
 नेशनल स्टॉक एक्सचेंज का निफ्टी भी ३९----अंक बढ़कर ----५-हजार-७७५----पर पर आ गया।
 अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय मुद्राबाजार में डॉलर के मुकाबले रूपये की कीमत में ६ पैसे की बढ़ोतरी हुई। एक डॉलर की कीमत ४४ रूपये ७२ पैसे बोली गई।

 गुजरात विधानसभा ने आज सर्वसम्मति से प्रस्ताव पारित कर केन्द्र से महात्मा गांधी के बारे में एक विवादित पुस्तक को पूरी तरह प्रतिबंधित करने की मांग की। यह पुस्तक पुलित्जर पुरस्कार प्राप्त लेखक जोसेफ लैलीवेल्ड ने लिखी है। मुख्यमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने केन्द्र से मांग की कि अमरीका में प्रकाशित इस पुस्तक की बिक्री, वितरण और  पुनः प्रकाशन पर पूरी तरह रोक लगायी जाए। उन्होंने गुजरात में इस पुस्तक पर पूर्ण प्रतिबंध लगाने की घोषणा की। कांग्रेस के सदस्यों ने भी इसका समर्थन किया। हमारे अहमदाबाद संवाददाता ने बताया है कि ग्रेट सोल : महात्मा गांधी एंड हिज स्ट्रगल विद इंडिया नाम की यह पुस्तक फिलहाल भारत में उपलब्ध नहीं है, लेकिन अमरीका में यह कल से बाजार में आ गई है। महाराष्ट्र सरकार ने इस पुस्तक पर कल ही पाबंदी लगा दी थी।

AIR correpondent reports, Special prayers were performed in the morning for India's victory at famous Deori temple in Tamar near Ranchi. Whenever in Ranchi, Skipper M S Dhoni always offers prayer at the temple. Today Dhoni's fans also went to Deori temple for the special prayers. Pujas were also performed in other temples of Jharkhand for the Indian team's success.

The World Cup cricket fever has gripped Madhya Pradesh also. AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that in the state legislative assembly, the House offered good wishes for the success of the Indian cricketers in the world cup semi final.    

Considering the people’s interest in the match the Madhya Pradesh government has announced half day leave in their offices. The Chief Minster Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed the state assembly that an extra one thousand mega watt power is being purchased to ensure uninterrupted supply of power during the match. Mean while the proceedings in the state assembly also came to a halt at 1 pm today to enable the legislators to watch the match. Some legislators formed two teams among themselves and played a cricket match to express their solidarity with the Indian players at Mohali. One of the MLA Panchilal Meda has become the focus of attention because of his pledge to remain in standing position from 10 am to 10 pm in order to invoke the divine power for the win of the Indian team at Mohali.

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh arrived in  Chandigarh a short while ago. He was received by the Governors and Chief Ministers of both Punjab and Haryana at airport. Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on his arrival at the Chandigarh airport told media persons that his visit will bridge the gap between both the countries. He also extended his gratitude to the people of India for inviting him to see the match.

Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his visiting Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani are meeting today as they join cricket fans to watch the World cup cricket second semifinal between the two countries at Mohali.  Both leaders are also expected to hold informal talks on the side lines of the match. There has, however been no official word so far on a structured dialogue between Dr. Singh and Gilani. It is the first meeting between the two Prime ministers in India after relations between the two countries suffered a severe setback following the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai. The meeting of the two leaders also comes a day after the conclusion of Home Secretary level talks between India and Pakistan in which both countries agreed to co-operate extensively to tackle terrorism.

Dr. Manmohan Singh  will welcome Mr Gilani at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali and  the two leaders will be introduced to the players of the two teams before the beginning of the match. Members of the Gandhi family, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi and her husband Robert Vadra, would also be in attendance to enjoy the match.  Cricket lovers meanwhile are keeping  their fingers crossed on the outcome of the day and night emotion packed Indo-Pak second semi final. Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today expressed  happiness at the resumption of dialogue between India and Pakistan saying both he and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh were committed to work for peace and prosperity in the region. Before leaving Pakistan this morning Gilani said, he was happy that the talks in New Delhi between the Home Secretaries of both countries were conducted in a positive manner. He said, both leaders want  the environment to improve so that they can serve the people. Gilani also said he expected his visit to lead to some progress  between the two countries and an improvement in Indo-Pak relations.  Gilani said his visit will also give a boost to Pakistan's cricket team.

Thanking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for inviting him to watch the match, Gilani said he was travelling to Mohali to show solidarity with the Pakistani and Indian teams and to promote cricket. Gilani said he has come to India keeping in mind the feelings of the two countries. He said, both teams have qualified for the semi-final and he is very hopeful that their performance will be very good.  Responding to another question on whether he would ask Dr. Singh to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan, Gilani said, his country is  passing through some difficult times and are fighting the war on terrorism. He said, Pakistan leadership and people are united on creating a conducive environment in the country and if a better environment is created, he will certainly make the request to Dr. Singh.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today asserted  that internal security agencies have an important role to play in dealing with the threat posed by  terrorism as it transcends geographical limits.  Addressing the 26th Raising Day function of SPG in New Delhi today, Dr. Singh warned that terrorists have acquired state like military capabilities. He said, the police and other security forces have to be much more effective in their fighting strategies and to improve their professional standards. The Prime Minister added that the number of important dignitaries at risk from terrorists  has been rising across the globe and this is a major cause for concern. He said India has been fighting cross border terrorism for almost three decades and the role of our internal security agencies in ensuring peace and stability is better appreciated today than ever before.  Prime Minister  however, called for building of more appropriate and better infrastructure for them so that they are able to take on this challenge more effectively.

Hailing the role of the SPG in protecting  VIPs Dr. Singh urged the force to take more steps to minimise the levels of inconvenience faced by people due to the movement of protected persons. He affirmed the government's commitment to ensure that SPG gets all that it requires to upgrade its infrastructure and skills of its personnel.

Medical Council of India (MCI) plans to start a national level Medical Graduate Exam in place of post-graduate course exams. Prof. Ranjit Roy Chaudhary a member of MCI said, that the exam will have credibility extending beyond any particular university or college. He added that the council has initiated the exam in order to bring uniformity in the curriculum of the students. MCI president Dr S K Sarin said that students who clear the newly proposed exam can opt out of post Graduate exams. He added that the process will restore internship period that can be utilised for development of a basic doctor catering to the Indian population.

Asif Balwa, a cousin of 2G spectrum case accused Shahid Balwa, and Rajeev B Agarwal, arrested for their alleged role in the scam, were today remanded in CBI custody till 1st April by a Delhi court. The CBI sought their remand for custodial interrogation, saying they were not revealing the true facts and circumstances of the criminal conspiracy. CBI prosecutor Akhilesh told the court that both the accused were instrumental in transferring 200 crore rupees to Kalaignar TV Pvt Ltd through the bank accounts of Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd.

Addressing the 55th Executive committee meeting of CAPART in New Delhi, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh highlighted the need to have a convergence of different rural development schemes so that the development works in the villages is sustainable and environment friendly. The Myanmar's military today handed power to a nominally civilian government after almost 50 years in power, as the ruling junta was disbanded and a new president was appointed. Myanmar state television reported that the junta's State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) has been officially dissolved, the TV quoted an order signed by Senior General Than Shwe.  U. Thein Sein has been sworn-in as President.  Two Vice-Presidents - U Tin Aung Myint Oo and Dr. Sai Mauk Kham also took oath.  The swearing-in ceremony took place today in the new capital Nay Pyi Taw in the presence of Union parliament members.  Meanwhile, General Min Aung Hlaing was named as new Commander- in-Chief of Myanmar Defence Services. According to state radio and TV, President U Thein Sein named 30 cabinet ministers, including defense minister, home minister, border affairs minister and industrial development minister, and foreign minister. Than Shwe, who has ruled since 1992, was referred to only as chairman of the SPDC in the report and has apparently been replaced as army chief.

Japan today said there was no immediate end in sight to the crisis at its earthquake-wrecked Fukushima Daichi nuclear power plant. A sudden increase in radioactive iodine levels has been noticed in seawater following reactor leakages around the complex and beyond. Detection of Plutonium in soil at the plant have raised public alarm over the world's worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl in 1986. An earthquake and tsunami on the 11th of this month had left 27,500 people dead or missing and severely damaging the nuclear complex in Japan.

France and the United States are assisting Japan in its battle to contain radiation. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said that they  are not in a situation where it can be said that the crisis will be contained by a certain period.  Japan's state nuclear safety agency said, new readings showed a spike in radioactive iodine in the sea off the plant to 3,355 times the legal limit, it also added that the people had left the area and fishing had stopped. Pollution of the ocean is a concern.

 US President Barack Obama spoke to Japaneese Premier Naoto Kan over the telephone assuring all help to contain the nuclear crisis.

 United States is  sending radiation-detecting robots to Japan to help explore the reactor cores and spent fuel pools at the stricken nuclear plant. French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who chairs the G20 and G8 blocs of nations, plans to visit Tokyo tomorrow.  France has flown in two experts from its state-owned nuclear reactor maker Areva and its CEA nuclear research body to assist Japan in handling the situation.  Meanwhile, Japan is to decommission four stricken reactors at the quake-hit Fukushima nuclear plant.  Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) made the announcement three weeks after failing to bring reactors 1 to 4 under control.

In Kerala, today is the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers for next month's assembly election. Of the total 1373 nomination papers submitted,  1186 papers have been found in order by the election commission. The state goes to polls on the 13th of next month to elect 140 members to the state assembly.

The first stage of election conventions related campaign has reached the final phase in Kerala. Since today is last day for withdrawal of nomination papers, the final picture of candidates in the fray will be clear by tomorrow. Meanwhile, CPI General Secretary AB Bardan has reached the state for election campaign and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj is sheduled to address election campaign at Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow. Two incidents of manhandling of a journalist and a voter by Left party leaders have emerged a major controversy in Kerala. With just two weeks left for poll, election campaign will reach a feverish pitch in coming days with the arrival of more national leaders of major political parties.

In West Bengal, notification for second phase assembly elections in the state has been issued today.  The second phase election will take place in 50 seats in Murshidabad, Nadia and Birbhum districts on 23 rd of next month.  AIR Correspondent reports that the filing of nominations are also on for the first phase assembly polls in the state.

The Election Commission is making all out efforts for free and fair elections in the state.  Besides, state police around 660 company central para-military force will be deployed to maintain law and order during the poll.  The election commission for the first time is sending 12 police observers at sensitive areas to monitor law and order.  The Commission is also paying much attention in the maoist hit areas in Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapur districts for smooth conduct of elections.  Anti-land-mine vehicles and  helicopters will  be kept as stand-by in these districts to meet any eventuality.  The West Bengal governor has decided to give 10 lakh rupees compensation to the poll workers in case of un-natural death during their duties in maoist hit areas.

In Assam, the election campaign in the 15 constituencies of Barak Valley is largely based on the development plank. Political parties across the spectrum dub the area as the most backward region of the state. AIR correspondent reports,in the Human Development Report 2003 of Assam, the most recent for the state, all the three valley districts have human development index scores below the state average.

Development Programme methodology, the report found Cachar placed at the eighth spot,Hailakandi getting the 11th rank and for Karimganj,the 19th among the 23 districts.The overall employment situation in south Assam is not very encouraging according to the report as the workforce participation rate is lowest for these districts. While in the state as awhole, a little over 45 per cent of the households have access to safe drinking water, the average for Barak Valley is well below 20. All the three districts line up to collect a jarful of drinking water. The broad gauge railway line between Silchar and Lumding is far from completion even after 15 years. Insurgency in Dima Hasao is officially cited as the hindrance for the sloppy performance of the NF Railway in this national project that links Mizoram and Tripura besides the Barak Valley. Politician across the party lines have a deep feeing that a consensus must emerge on augmenting the development process of the valley.

Rising for the seventh day in a row, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange shot up further by 206 points, or 1.1 per cent, to a 9-week high of 19,327 in early trade, today. Remaining firm, the Sensex stood 213 points, or 1.1 percent in the positive zone, at 19,334, in afternoon deals, a short while ago. All the 30 Sensex stocks gained ground. The domestic market rose as investor sentiment was lifted by continued strong buying interest by foreign funds, amid positive regional markets, and easing of global crude oil prices from a recent two-and-a-half-year high.

The Rupee strengthened by 6 paise to Rs 44.72 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange today. The Rupee had appreciated by 5 paise to close at  44.79 Rupees against the US currency in yesterday's trade.

 The United States has said that it is pursuing different means to envision the end of the Gaddafi regime in Libya. America  has however ruled out use of military force to do so. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said in Washington that Muammar Gaddafi is no longer fit to lead and should leave power. He said, America is pursuing non-lethal and  non-military means, to isolate Gaddafi and  to create an environment where Libyan people will be able to create their own future.
