बहरीन में सरकार विरोधी प्रदर्शनों के बीच वहां की सरकार ने करीब साढ़े तीन लाख भारतीयों की सुरक्षा का आश्वासन दिया है। बहरीन के विदेश मंत्री शेख खालिद बिन अहमद बिन मोहम्मद अल खलीफा ने कल नई दिल्ली में विदेश मंत्री एस.एम. कृष्णा से मुलाकात की। दोनों नेताओं ने साझा हितों के मुद्दों तथा बहरीन और पश्चिम एशिया की स्थिति पर विचार-विमर्श किया। विदेश मंत्रालय के बयान में कहा गया है कि बैठक के दौरान शेख खालिद ने बहरीन के विकास में भारतीय समुदाय के लोगों के महत्वपूर्ण योगदान की प्रशंसा की। श्री कृष्णा ने आशा व्यक्त की कि बातचीत के जरिए बहरीन में सभी मुद्दों को हल कर लिया जाएगा और वहां सत्त आर्थिक विकास का रास्ता साफ होगा।-----
जापान ने अपने परमाणु संकट से निपटने की कोशिश में क्षतिग्रस्त फुकुशिमा बिजलीघर के चार रिएक्टर बंद करने की बात कही है। अधिकारियों ने बताया कि परमाणु बिजलीघर की मिट्टी से प्लूटोनियम मिलने के बाद रिएक्टर की इमारतों को विशेष चादरों से ढकने पर विचार किया जा रहा है ताकि विकिरण को सीमित रखा जा सके। व्यापार और उद्योग मंत्री ने ११ मार्च के भूकम्प और त्सुनामी से उत्पन्न परमाणु संकट जैसी घटनाओं को रोकने के लिए देश के सभी परमाणु रिएक्टरों की जांच के आदेश दिये हैं।-----
पाकिस्तान में गड़बड़ी वाले पश्चिमोत्तर इलाके में एक पुलिस चौकी के निकट कल आत्मघाती बम विस्फोट में कट्टरपंथी जमीयते-उलेमा-ए-इस्लाम के प्रमुख मौलाना फजलुर्रहमान बाल-बाल बच गये। इस घटना दस लोगों की मौत हो गई और १८ घायल हो गये। खैबर-पख्तूनख्वा सूबे के स्वाबी इलाके की एक पुलिस चौकी के पास से मौलाना फजलुर्रहमान के काफिले के गुजरने के कुछ ही मिनट बाद मोटरसाइकिल पर सवार आत्मघाती हमलावर ने विस्फोट किया। अधिकतर हताहत जमीयते-उलेमा-ए-इस्लाम के समर्थक थे, जो मौलाना का स्वागत करने पुलिस चौकी पर जमा थे।-----
कर्मचारी भविष्य निधि संगठन ने सेवानिवृत्ति निधि के प्रबंध के लिए निजी कंपनियों के प्रस्ताव ठुकराते हुए अपनी तीन लाख करोड़ रूपये से भी अधिक की निजी का प्रबंध भारतीय स्टेट बैंक को सौंप दिया है।नई दिल्ली में केन्द्रीय न्यासी बोर्ड की बैठक के बाद श्रममंत्री मल्लिकार्जुन खडगे ने कहा कि अप्रैल से जून तक तीन महीनों के लिए पूरी सेवानिवृत्ति निधि का प्रबंध सिर्फ स्टेट बैंक करेगा। निधि के चार प्रबंधकों की अवधि आज समाप्त हो रही है। संगठन ने जुलाई-२००८ में पहली बार निजी कंपनियों की सेवाएं ली थीं उससे पहले भविष्य निधि का प्रबंध स्टेट बैंक के हाथ में ही था।
आई०सी०आई०सी०आई० प्रूडेंशियल, एच० एस० बी० सी० और रिलायंस कैपिटल ने भविष्य निधि प्रबंधक के रूप में अपना कार्यकाल बढ़ाने को कहा था लेकिन उनका प्रस्ताव नामंजूर कर दिया गया।

Batting first after winning the toss, India were restricted to a modest 260 for nine by their arch-rivals.
Chasing the target of 261, Pakistani batting crumbled against some brilliant bowling by the Indian seamers and spinners. They were all out for 231 runs in 49.5 overs. For India, five bowlers including Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh claimed two wickets each.
With this victory, India maintained their unbeaten record against Pakistan in 36 years of World Cup history.
India have outridden the storm eventually as the hype and hysteria involving the much awaited encounter between the two cricketing super-powers from Asia went the best possible way a perfect game of cricket would ever go. It had cheers of joy, shrieks of despair, streaks of luck and strokes of optimism that completed the story in a most satisfying way for the cricket crazy millions of the Indian subcontinent. Pakistan's hardline Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, JUI Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman escaped an assassination bid by a suicide bomber, who blew himself up near a police post in the country's restive northwest killing at least 10 people and injuring 18 others. The bomber, who was riding a motorcycle, detonated his suicide vest minutes after Rehman's motorcade passed the police post in Swabi area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Most of the dead and injured were JUI supporters who had gathered at the police post to greet Rehman.

Libya's Foreign Minister Moussa Koussa has defected to the UK, saying he is no longer willing to represent Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi's regime. Mr. Koussa, who flew to London, spent hours talking to British officials. The state election department said, a total of 313 candidates withdrew their nominations. In Tirupur North, where 151 nominations were filed, 81 papers were rejected and 60 candidates withdrew from contest.

Mumbai’s fast track sessions court has sentenced Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping his maid. Despite the victim turning hostile, Judge P M Chouhan yesterday convicted Shiney solely on the basis of the FIR. Earlier, in June 2009, a 20-year-old girl had lodged a police complaint alleging that she was raped by the actor at his residence. Shiney Ahuja was arrested on June 14 and released on bail three months later. During the trial, the girl however, claimed that she had filed the complaint at the behest of the woman who had secured her the job at Shiney’s residence. Shiney, throughout the trial had argued that he was being falsely implicated.
