• प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने पाकिस्तान के साथ आपसी सम्बन्धों को बढ़ावा देने की ताजा कोशिश में मोहाली में विश्वकप क्रिकेट का भारत-पाकिस्तान के बीच सेमीफाइनल मैच देखने के लिए राष्ट्रपति ज+रदारी और प्रधानमंत्री गिलानी को न्यौता भेजा।

भारत और पाकिस्तान के सम्बन्धों को बढ़ाने की ताजा कोशिश करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री डाक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने 30 मार्च को मोहाली में भारत और पाकिस्तान की टीमों के बीच विश्वकप क्रिकेट का सेमीफाइनल मैच देखने के लिए राष्ट्रपति आसिफ अली जरदारी और प्रधानमंत्री युसूफ रजा गिलानी को  नियमंत्रण पत्र भेजे हैं। डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कहा कि इस मैच को लेकर दोनों देशों की जनता में बहुत उत्साह है। प्रधानमंत्री ने ये न्यौता दोनो ंदेशों के गृहसचिवों के बीच सोमवार को नई दिल्ली में होने  वाली वार्ता से पहले भेजा है। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि दोनों देशों के सम्बन्धों के उतार-चढ़ाव के बीच क्रिकेट डिपलोमेसी अक्सर काम करती रही है। पाकिस्तान के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति जियाउलहक और जिया मुशर्रफ भारत में क्रिकेट मैच देखने आ चुके हैं।

राष्ट्रपति जरदारी ने आज हुई दोनों देशों के बीच समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए बातचीत का होना जरूरी है। इस्लामाबाद में अल-अरबिया समाचार चैनल के साथ एक इंटरव्यू में उन्होंने कहा कि पाकिस्तान , भारत के साथ  फिर से बातचीत करना चाहता है और उम्मीद है कि भारत इसका उपयुक्त जवाब देगा। यह पूछे जाने पर कि शांति प्रक्रिया को आगे बढ़ाने के लिये क्या वे भारत यात्रा करेंगे, उन्होंने कहा कि बातचीत को एक निश्चित स्तर पर पहुंचने दीजिये। और दोनों देशों के बीच होने वाली बैठक में आतंकवाद , नशीले पदार्थो की रोकथाम और मानवता के मुद्दों पर बातचीत होने की उम्मीद है।  भारत में सुरक्षा संबंधी केबिनेट समिति ने सीमा पार आतंकवाद ,  26 नवम्बर 2008 के आतंकी हमलों की सुनवाई और भारत के जाली नोटों की तस्करी जैसे मुद्दों को बातचीत के एजेंडे के रूप में मंजूरी दे दी है। सीमा पार आतंकवादी शिविरों को समाप्तकरने और मुम्बई आतंकी हमले के सरगना के आवाज के  नमूने सौंपने सहित इन मुद्दों को गृह सचिव जी के पिल्लई पाकिस्तान के गृह सचिव चौधरी कमर जमां के साथ उठायेंगे।

भारत और पाकिस्तान ने अटारी-वाघा सीमा चौकी पर व्यापारिक गतिविधियों में सहूलत के लिए बनाई जा रही एकीकृत चैकपोस्ट में एक और द्वार बनाने का फैसला किया है। मौजूदा द्वार का इस्तेमाल समारोहों और सरकारी कायोर्ं के लिए किया जायेगा। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि  नये द्वार का उपयोग वस्तुओं के आदान-प्रदान और लोगों की आवाजाही के लिये किया जायेगा।
आज हुई इसा तकनीकी स्तर की बैठक के बाद दोनों देशों के अधिकारियों ने गेट वर्क सड़क निर्माण की जगह का मुआयना किया और फैसला लिया। इस गेट पर सड़कों का निर्माण इसी वर्ष पूरा कर लिया जायेगा। इस बैठक में यह फैसला भी लिया गया कि यदि भारत चाहे तो अपनी तरफ गेट के आस-पास पशुओं को दूर रखने के लिए तार लगा सकता है। इस कार्य की प्रगति का जायजा लेने के लिए दोनों देशों के बीच अगली ऐसी बैठक जून में रखी गई है।  भारत की और संयुक्त जांच चौकी का निर्माण कार्य पिछले वर्ष फरवरी में शुरू हुआ था, जो 80 प्रतिशत पूरा हो चुका है।

केंद्र ने जाट आंदोलन से निपटने के लिये उत्तर प्रदेश, हरियाणा और राजस्थान के शीर्ष प्रशासनिक और पुलिस अधिकारियों की कल बैठक बुलाई है। जाट केंद्र सरकार की नौकरियों में आरक्षण की मांग को लेकर आंदोलन कर रहे हैं। गृह सचिव जी के पिल्लई तीनों राज्यों के मुख्य सचिवों और पुलिस महानिदेशकों के साथ कानून व्यवस्था की स्थिति की समीक्षा करेंगे।
उच्चतम न्यायालय ने राज्य सरकारों को कल आदेश दिया था कि वे राष्ट्रीय राजधानी दिल्ली को पानी औेर अन्य आवश्यक चीजों जैसे दूध, डेयरी उत्पादन और सब्जियों की आपूर्ति सुनिश्चित करें। गृह सचिव, जाट आंदोलन के कारण आवश्यक वस्तुओं की आपूर्ति बाधित न हो और रेल तथा सड़क यातायात सुचारू रहे, इसके लिये एक योजना बनाने सहित सुरक्षा स्थिति की समीक्षा करेंगे।
गृह मंत्री पी चिदम्बरम और सामाजिक न्याय तथा अधिकारिता मंत्री मुकुल वासनिक और जाट नेताओं के बीच दो बार वार्ता हो चुकी है, लेकिन इस बातचीत का कोई नतीजा नहीं निकला।

उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार ने जाटों के आरक्षण आंदोलन को देखते हुए राज्य में विशेषकर जाट बहुल पश्चिमी जिलों में केंद्र सरकार के कार्यालयों और प्रतिष्ठानों पर सुरक्षा बढा दी है। जाट आरक्षण संघर्ष समिति के नेता यशपाल मलिक ने हमारे लखनऊ संवाददाता को बताया कि समिति अपनी मांगों पर दबाव बनाने के लिए धरना और प्रदर्शन तेज करेगी।
उत्तर रेलवे के लखनऊ रेल मंडल के प्रबंधक का कहना है कि हरियाणा से गुजरने वाली तीन रेलगाड़िया जाट आंदोलन की वजह से प्रभावित है। उन्होंने बताया है कि आंदोलन वाले इलाकों में रेलवे स्टेशनों पर सुरक्षा व्यवस्था बढ़ा दी गई है। इस बीच जाट आरक्षण संघर्ष समिति ने कहा है कि दिल्ली से लगने वाली सीमावर्ती इलाकों में धरना प्रदर्शन के लिए आठ स्थान चिन्हित किये गये हैं। समिति ने ज्योतिबाग सुर्यनगर जिले में आंदोलनकारियों की गिरफ्‌तारी की निंदा की है। आंदोलनकारियों का धरना जिले को काफपुर रेलवे स्टेशन के सामने एक स्कूल परिसर में जारी है।

नागरिक उड्डयन  महानिदेशालय - ने आज शाम तक चौदह पायलटों के विमान उड़ाने पर पाबंदी लगा दी है। इन पायलटों ने फर्जी दस्तावेज के आधार पर कमर्शियल पायलट लाइसेंस हासिल किया था। महानिदेशालय सूत्रों ने बताया  कि ऐसे और मामलों की जांच चल रही है। इस सिलसिले में दस दलाल भी गिरतार किये गये हैं। ये कदम राजस्थान पुलिस द्वारा यह पर्दाफाश करने के बाद उठाया गया कि  राजस्थान में एक ऐसा पायलट प्रशिक्षण संस्थान लोगों को फर्जी रिकार्ड पर लाईसेंस दे रहा है, जिसका दरअसल अस्तित्व ही नहीं है। महानिदेशालय प्रमुख ई के भारत भूषण ने कहा कि करीब दस हजार पायलटों के लाइसेंस की जांच की जा रही है।

विदेशी बैंकों में अरबों डालर छिपाकर रखने के आरोपी, पुणे के कारोबारी हसन अली खान ने दोष लगाया है कि उनके गिरफ्‌तार सहयोगी काशीनाथ टपूरिया और उद्योगपति आर पी गोयनका इसे मार डालने की धमकियां दे रहे हैं। मुम्बई में एक अदालत के बाहर उसने पत्रकारों से कहा कि टपूरिया इस मामले में उसे लपेट रहे हैं, लेकिन गोयनका ने खान के इस दावे का जोरदार खंडन किया है। गोयनका का कहना है कि खान या टपूरिया के साथ न तो उनका कोई संबंध था और ना है। इस धमकी के मद्देनजर खान ने न्यायालय में सुरक्षा के लिये एक अर्जी दायर की । न्यायालय ने आर्थर रोड जेल के अधीक्षक को खान की सुरक्षा के लिये जरूरी उपाय करने के निर्देश दिये। खान आठ अप्रैल तक अदालती हिरासत में है।

प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने एन डी ए सांसदों के एक शिष्टमंडल को आश्वासन दिया है कि बिहार को विशेष दर्जा दिये जाने की मांग के बारे में राष्ट्रीय विकास परिषद की अगली बैठक में विचार किया जायेगा। एन डी ए संयोजक शरद यादव ने संसद के बाहर बताया कि उन्होंने प्रधानमंत्री से मुलाकात की और बिहार को विशेष दर्जा देने की मांग की। शिष्टमंडल में जनता दल युनाइटेड के सांसद राम सुन्दर दास और भारतीय जनता पार्टी सांसद सी. पी. ठाकुर, राजीव प्रताप रूडी तथा शाहनवाज हुसैन शामिल थे।

संसद का बजट सत्र आज समाप्त हो गया। वित्तीय कार्य पूरे कर लिए जाने के बाद लोकसभा और राज्यसभा अनिश्चितकाल के लिए स्थगित कर दी गई। लोकसभा अध्यक्ष मीरा कुमार ने अपनी समापन टिप्पणी में सत्र के दौरान सरकारी कामकाज को सफलतापूर्वक निपटाए जाने पर संतोष व्यक्त किया। उन्होंने कहा कि शोर-शराबे के कारण बार-बार कार्यवाही स्थगित होने से लोकसभा के पच्चीस घंटे बर्बाद हुए, लेकिन इसकी भरपाई 26 घंटे से अधिक समय तक सदन की कार्यवाही चलाकर पूरी कर ली गई। राज्यसभा के सभापति हामिद अंसारी ने अपनी समापन टिप्पणी में कहा कि शोर-शराबे के कारण सदन के बीस घंटे बर्बाद हुए, लेकिन बाद में देर तक सदन की कार्यवाही चलाकर आंशिक रूप से इसकी भरपाई हो गई है। हमारे संसदीय संवाददाता सलमान हैदर ने बताया है कि विभिन्न मुद्दों पर सरकार और विपक्ष के बीच तीखी झड़पें हुई।
एक महीने से कुछ अधिक चले संसदीय सत्र की महत्वपूर्ण गतिविधियों में टू-जी स्प्रैक्ट्रम की जांच के लिए संयुक्त संसदीय समिति का गठन महत्वपूर्ण रहा। इस दौरान सांसदों को वोट के लिए धन दिये जाने के विकिलिक्स के खुलासे के बाद पक्ष और विपक्ष गरमा-गरम बहस भी हुई। राष्ट्रपति के दोनों सदनों के संयुक्त संबोधन पर धन्यवाद प्रस्ताव और अगले वित्तीय वर्ष के बजट प्रस्तावों को पास करने के अलावा जहां सदन के कई विधेयक पारित किये वही कई और विधेयक सदन के विचार के लिए प्रस्तुत किये गये। उपद्रवग्र्रस्त लीबिया से भारतीयों को निकालने और एक अमरीकी विश्वविद्यालय के भारतीय छात्रों को रेड़ियो पट्टा पहनाने और श्रीलंकाई सेना द्वारा भारतीय मछुवारों पर हमलें का मामला भी इस संक्षिप्त बजट सत्र में उठाया गया।

म्यांमा में कल रात भूकंप आने से कम से कम 75 व्यक्ति मारे गए हैं और एक सौ दस से अधिक लोग घायल हो गए हैं। म्यांमा टेलीविजन ने आज बताया कि यह भूकंप रिक्टर पैमाने पर सात मापा गया और इसका केंद्र उत्तर-पूर्व में थाईलैंड और लाओस की सीमा पर म्यामां के पहाड़ों में जमीन से दस किलोमीटर नीचे था। उत्तर-पूर्वी शहर लोइमवे तबाह हो गया है। भूकम्प के केन्द के पास वाले गांवों और शहरों में चार सौ मकान नष्ट हो गये। चौदह बौद्ध मठ भी ध्वस्त हो गए हैं। सरकार ने राहतकार्य शुरू कर दिये हैं। बचाव दलों को भूकंप ग्रस्त जगहों पर भेजा गया है। भूकंप के केंद्र से लगभग आठ सौ किलोमीटर दूर बैंकाक, हनोई और चीन के कुछ हिस्सों में भी झटके आये।

भारत ने म्यामां सरकार से गहरी संवेदना व्यक्त की है और कहा है कि वह राहत प्रयासों में हर संभव सहायता देने को तैयार है। विदेश मंत्रालय के एक प्रवक्ता ने नई दिल्ली में बताया कि भारत म्यामां सरकार के साथ संपर्क बनाये हुए है।

जापान के प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा है कि फुकुशिमा दाइची के सुनामी ग्रस्त परमाणु संयंत्र में परमाणु विकिरण की स्थिति अत्यंत गंभीर है। संयंत्र के कुछ कर्मचारी सामान्य से दस हजार गुणा विकिरण के शिकार हैं।
इस बीच, देश के उत्तर पूर्वी क्षेत्र में आए भीषण भूंकप और सुनामी से अब तक मरने वालों की संख्या दस हजार को पार कर गई है। नेशनल पुलिस एजेन्सी ने बताया कि इस भूकंप में मरने वालों की संख्या और बढ़ने की आशंका है। एजेन्सी की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार दस हजार 35 लोगों के मरने की पुष्टि हुई है। सत्रह हजार 443 लोग लापता बताये गये हैं जबकि दो हजार 775 लोग घायल हुए हैं। हजारों लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पहुंचाया गया है और उन्हें शिवरों में रखा गया है।

मिजोरम में साइहा जिले में बिजली का करंट लगने से नौ लोगों की मौत हो गई है। एक बस की छत पर सवार कुछ लोग, जिला मुख्यालय साइहा से फूरा गांव की ओर जा रहे थे और यह बस हाई टैंशन तारों की चपेट में आ गई। नौ लोगों की मौत मौके पर ही हो गई। वरिष्ठ अधिकारियो और डाक्टरों की एक टीम तुरंत घटनास्थल की ओर भेजी गयी है।

मुंबई शेयर बाजार में आज लगातार चौथे दिन तेजी रही। सेंसेक्स कुल 465 अंकों की छलांग लगाकर 18 हजार 816 पर बंद हुआ।  पच्चीस जनवरी के बाद यह सेंसेक्स का अब तक का उच्चतम स्तर है। नेशनल स्टाक एक्सचेंज का निटी भी 132 अंक उछल कर पांच हजार 654 पर जा पहुंचा।

क्रिकेट विश्व कप के तीसरे क्वार्टर फाइनल में ढाका में न्यूजीलैंड ने दक्षिण अफ्रीका को जीत के लिए दो सौ 22 रन का लक्ष्य दिया है। दक्षिण अफ्रीका ने ताजा समाचार मिलने तक .......38....... ओवर में ........8.......... विकेट पर ......146.......... रन बना लिए हैं। टॉस जीतकर पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए न्यूजीलैड ने आठ विकेट पर 221 रन बनाए। जेसी राइडर ने सबसे ज्यादा 83 रन का योगदान दिया।
कल अंतिम क्वार्टर फाइनल कोलम्बो में इंग्लैंड और श्रीलंका के बीच खेला जाएगा। आकाशवाणी से इस मैच का आंखों देखा हाल दोपहर दो बजे से प्रसारित किया जाएगा।

सरकार ने आज जोर देकर कहा कि राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों से संबंधित परियोजनाओं में अनियमितताओं के लिए दोषी पाये गये व्यक्तियों को  सजा दी जायेगी। लोकसभा में सदस्यों को आश्वासन देते हुए संसदीय मामलों के मंत्री पवन कुमार बंसल ने कहा कि सरकार वी के शुंगलू समिति की रिपोर्ट का पूरा अध्ययन करने के बाद ही इसे सदन में पेश करेगी।

In a bid to give a fresh impetus to bilateral ties, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today invited Pakistan President and Prime Minister to watch the Indo-Pak cricket encounter in Mohali on March 30 when he will also be present. In identical letters to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Dr Singh proposed them to watch the Indo-Pak World Cup semi-final. The letters have been sent to top Pakistani Leadership ahead of the home secreary level talks being held in New Delhi from Monday.

Pakistan has welcomed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's invitation to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to watch Indo-Pak World Cup cricket semi-final match at Mohali. Official sources said, a decision on the invitation will be taken after Pak PM returns from Tashkent.

Government today said it is taking every precautionary  measure to prevent any untoward incident at ICC cricket world cup venues. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Home minister P Chidambaram said that  in Mohali where India will take on Pakistan on March 30 as also at other venues, adequate security measures have been taken.

The Budget Session of Parliament  came to a close today. Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have been adjourned sine die after completing the financial and important legislative businesses. In her concluding remarks the Lok Sabha speaker Ms. Miera Kumar   expressed satisfaction over the successful transaction of the business during this session. AIR Parliamentary correspondent reports that there was an acrimony over diverse issues .

BJP today claimed that the Budget Session of Parliament was successful. Jointly briefing reporters in New Delhi Leaders of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha said that their party acted as a constructive and responsible Opposition.The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Pavan Kumar Bansal on the other hand said that the opposition raised issues on filmsy grounds which marred the spirit of democracy and also the session to an extent.

Government today asserted those found guilty of irregularities in the Commonwealth Games projects will be punished. Assuring the members in the Lok Sabha, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal said that V. K.Shunglu Committee report will be tabled in Parliament only after government goes through it. Media reports say, the  Shunglu Committee has allegedly criticised  the role of Lt. Governor  and the Delhi Chief Minister along with some senior officials of the city government for inadequecies in the Commonwealth Games projects. Delhi Chief Minister today said that her government is looking into the report of the Shunglu Committee, appointed by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh  in October last.

The Centre has called a meeting of top civil and police officers of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan tomorrow to discuss ways to deal with the agitation by Jats demanding quota in central government jobs. Home Secretary Gopal K Pillai will review the law and order situation of three states with the chief secretaries and directors general of police. Official sources said today that the meeting has been convened following yesterday's Supreme Court directive to the state governments to ensure free flow of water and other essential items like milk, dairy products and vegetables to the national capital. The Home Secretary will take stock of the security situation, including the needs of the state, and formulate plans so that train and road traffic and flow of essential commodities are not disrupted by the Jat agitation. Two rounds of talks between Home Minister P Chidambaram and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik and the Jat leaders have remained inconclusive. Though the fortnight-long blockade on railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh was withdrawn by the agitators following an order of the Allahabad High Court, blockade on railway tracks in Haryana continues to affect train traffic.

Japan's nuclear crisis deepened further today, with authorities saying that a reactor vessel at the crippled Fukushima atomic plant may have got damaged as some workers were exposed to radiation levels 10,000 times higher than normal. This has  prompted Premier Naoto Kan to term the situation as very grave. The radiation leak detected yesterday at the No.3 reactor indicated possible damage to the unit's vessel, pipes or valves. This was disclosed by Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency.  Kyodo news agency quoting authorities reported, three workers at the No.3 reactor's turbine building, who received burn injuries yesterday, were exposed to the water containing radioactive materials 10,000 times the normal level. Following the incident, the nuclear agency ordered the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the operator the nuclear plant, to improve radiation management at the crisis-hit facility.

Meanwhile A 46-member team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is leaving for Tokyo tonight to help the Japaneses authorities in relief and rehabilitation works in Tsunami affected areas. The team would be deployed in Rifu-Cho town, 365 kilometers north of Tokyo, for a period of 10-12 days and they would assist the local authorities in relief and rehabilitation activities. The team is being sent following a request of the Japanese government. An official release said in New Delhi that the NDRF personnel would be staying at Miyagi Prefecture Sports Complex in Tohoku region on Honshu Island.

India and Pakistan has decided to construct a joint gate at the under construction Integrated Check Post at Attari-Wagah Joint Check post to ease the flow of trade related activities. The gate would be connected by roads from both the countries. After the completion of work, one gate will be used for ceremonial and official duties, the second one will be used for movement of people and goods.

The Indian markets recorded huge gains and ended in the green for the fourth straight day this week. The benchmark index at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 465 points to close at a two month high of 18,816 points.Although the Sensex did not start too well, but following positive global cues and increased buying interest, it moved up in the last hour of trade.

At Mirpur, in Bangladesh,   South Africa  are struggling to avoid a defeat against New Zealand in their quarter-final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup.When reports last came in, chasing a modest target of 222 runs, the Proteas were 157 for 8 in 40 overs.

Earlier, electing to bat, New Zealand made 221 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. Tomorrow, England take on co-hosts Sri Lanka in the fourth quarter-final encounter of the World Cup. The Day-Night Fixture will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

India has conveyed its deep condolences to the Government of Myanmar and expressed readiness to assist them in whatever way it can in the relief efforts. An  External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said in New Delhi that India is in close touch with the Government of Myanmar in this connection.

Meanwhile In Myanmar, at least 75 people have been killed and 111 others injured in the earthquake that struck the  northeastern Shan state last night.  Myanmar TV today reported that  400 homes collapsed in four villages and towns close to the epicentre. The report said, 14 monasteries and 9 government department buildings were  also destroyed in the quake.  The report said relief measures are being taken by the state with rescue team rushing to the scene. The  earthquake measured 7.0 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was about 10 kilometers underground and in the hills of Myanmar bordering Thailand and Laos.

NATO is set to take over the policing of Libyan skies to enforce a no-fly zone after overcoming objections mainly from Turkey. NATO, which operates by consensus, reached an agreement on Libya after marathon talks to discuss objections raised by the group's only Muslim nation Turkey, as the UAE

became the second Arab nation to commit fighters in Libya.  There was, however, no agreement yet on whether the 28-member North Atlantic Treaty Organisation would take over complete command of the West-led military operations in Libya. In a related development, French and British fighters pounded the strategic eastern town of Ajdabiya where rebel fighters have mounted an offensive to recapture it. Fighting, meanwhile, continued for control of major cities between the rebels and the forces loyal to Gaddafi.

Yemen appeared to be nearing a brink today as protesters staged a million people march onto the capital Sanaa after Friday prayers. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered at Sanaa University Square in a march, where opposition speakers said nothing short of exit of the President Abdullah Saleh would be acceptable to them. Thousands of elite President's Republican Guards separated the protesters from another huge gathering sponsored by embattled Saleh were he declared that he would resist an escalating campaign to oust him, but renewed his offer to transfer power to responsible hands.

Thousands of Syrians took to the streets today demanding reforms and mourning dozens of protesters who were killed during a violent, week-long crackdown. The move has brought extraordinary pressure on the country's autocratic regime. There were no immediate reports of serious violence.  Daraa, the main city of southern Syria's drought-parched agricultural heartland, has become a flashpoint for protests . Today, demonstrations were planned in Daraa and throughout the country in what organisers called a Day of Dignity.
