भारत में साक्षरता दर पिछले एक दशक में नौ दशमलव दो एक प्रतिशत बढ़कर ७४ दशमलव शून्य चार प्रतिशत हो गयी है। सात वर्ष और इससे अधिक आयु की कुल आबादी का ७४ प्रतिशत साक्षर और २६ प्रतिशत निरक्षर हैं। पिछले दशक में पुरूष साक्षरता की तुलना में महिला साक्षरता का स्तर बढा है।
मंत्रिमंडल ने बिजली से चलने वाले वाहनों के इस्तेमाल को प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए एक राष्ट्रीय विद्युत वाहन मिशन स्थापित करने के प्रस्ताव को भी मंजूरी दी है। इससे देश में बिजली से चलने वाले वाहनों के निर्माण और इस्तेमाल को बढ़ावा मिलेगा।

देश की जनसंख्या की वृद्धि दर में पहली बार उल्लेखनीय गिरावट दर्ज की गई है। कल नई दिल्ली में २०११ की जनगणना की प्रारंभिक रिपोर्ट जारी करते हुए भारत के महा-पंजीयक और जनगणना आयुक्त डॉक्टर सी चन्द्र मौली ने कहा कि २०११ की गणना में देश में आबादी की वृद्धि दर १७ दशमलव छह चार प्रतिशत दर्ज की गई, जबकि २००१ में यह २१ दशमलव एक पांच प्रतिशत थी।भारत में साक्षरता दर पिछले एक दशक में नौ दशमलव दो एक प्रतिशत बढ़कर ७४ दशमलव शून्य चार प्रतिशत हो गयी है। सात वर्ष और इससे अधिक आयु की कुल आबादी का ७४ प्रतिशत साक्षर और २६ प्रतिशत निरक्षर हैं। पिछले दशक में पुरूष साक्षरता की तुलना में महिला साक्षरता का स्तर बढा है।

प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने कॉरपोरेट क्षेत्र को आश्वासन दिया है कि सरकार देश में भ्रष्टाचार से मुक्त वातावरण बनाने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। कल नई दिल्ली में उद्योग और व्यापार परिषद की एक बैठक में डॉक्टर सिंह ने कहा कि हाल ही में कुछ दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण घटनाओं के कारण कॉरपोरेट क्षेत्र के कुछ वर्गों के बीच पैदा हुई घबराहट का उन्हें एहसास है। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार भ्रष्टाचार से निपटने और पारदर्शिता बढ़ाने के लिए प्रशासनिक तथा कानूनी, सभी उपायों पर विचार कर रही है। डॉक्टर सिंह ने कहा कि सतर्कता प्रणाली को मजबूत करने, काले धन की चुनौती से निपटने और भ्रष्टाचार पर लगाम लगाने के लिए संस्थागत प्रणाली लागू करने के व्यापक उपाय किए गए हैं। प्रधानमंत्री ने औद्योगिक क्षेत्र को आर्थिक सुधार जारी रखने का आश्वासन दिया ।-

उत्तर प्रदेश में गाजियाबाद की विशेष सीबीआई अदालत ने कई करोड़ रूपये के भविष्य निधि घोटाला मामले में सभी छह सेवानिवृत आरोपी न्यायाधीशों की नियमित जमानत मंजूर कर ली है। अदालत ने एक-एक लाख रुपये के दो मुचलकों के आधार पर इन न्यायाधीशों की जमानत मंजूर की है। हालांकि सीबीआई अदालत के जज+ ए.के. सिंह ने इन न्यायाधीशों की उस अर्जी को खारिज कर दिया, जिसमें घोटाले की फिर से जांच कराने की मांग की गई थी।-
पंजाब में सभी सरकारी एजेंसियां आज से गेहूं की खरीद शुरू कर रही हैं। राज्य में इस वर्ष एक हजार ७३८ गेहूं खरीद केंद्र बनाए गए हैं। एक सरकारी प्रवक्ता ने चंडीगढ़ में बताया कि खरीद केंद्रों से जुड़े कर्मचारियों से बाजार में किसानों को किसी प्रकार की समस्या से निपटने के लिए उचित प्रबंध करने को कहा गया है। राज्य सरकार की सभी खरीद एजेंसियों और भारतीय खाद्य निगम से कहा गया है कि वे इस तरह का प्रबंध करें कि खरीद के बाद माल बाजार से तुरंत हटा लिया जाए, ताकि नई खेप के लिए जगह बन सके और किसानों को उनका भुगतान ४८ घंटों के भीतर हो जाए।-

It is for the first time that there is a significant fall in the growth rate of population in the country. As per the provisional 2011 Census report released in New Delhi yesterday, the growth rate has declined to 17.64 percent from 21.15 percent in the 2001 census. Releasing the provisional report, Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner C. Chandramauli said there is significant decline in population growth in some states.
The decline sharper in case of some of the backward states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh. I think this needs to be examined more carefully. In fact I looked at the data and I did find that there is decline in the growth rate of population in these relatively backward states which have low level of literacy, low level of female literacy, low level of urbanization.
Dr Chandramauli said, India's population is now estimated at 1,210.2 million including 623.7 million males and 586.5 million females. Population has also increased 181 million in the last 10 years. He said, the sex ratio of the country has risen by 7 points to 940 which is the highest since 1971. However, the fall in child sex ratio remains unabated and declined to reach an all time low of 914. Dr Chandramauli said, child sex ratio in 2011 is 914 female against 1,000 male--the lowest since Independence.
He said, post enumeration summary will be started soon and the final data is expected to be available next year and any error can be detected only then.

India's literacy level has increased by 9.21 per cent in the past 10 years to reach 74.04 per cent. Literates constitute 74 per cent of the total population aged seven and above and illiterates form 26 per cent. Female literacy level saw a significant jump as compared to males between 2001-2011. While female literacy in 2001 stood at 53.67 per cent, it has gone up to 65.46 per cent in 2011. The male literacy in comparison rose from 75.26 to 82.14 per cent. Kerala with 93.91 per cent continues to occupy the top position among states in the field of literacy.

The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has assured the corporate sector that the government is committed to create a corruption-free environment to ensure the industry moves ahead without fear. Addressing a meeting of the Council on Industry and Trade in New Delhi yesterday, Dr Singh said that he is aware of the nervousness in some sections of the corporate sector arising out of some recent unfortunate developments. He said, the government is mulling all measures, administrative and legislative to tackle corruption and improve transparency. He said, comprehensive steps have been taken to strengthen the intelligence and implementing institutions to combat the menace of black money and rein in corruption. Dr Singh said, a Group of Ministers has been entrusted the task of considering issues relating to enunciation of public procurement standards, formulation of a public procurement policy, review and abolition of discretionary powers enjoyed by Ministers, and introduction of an open and competitive system for the use of natural resources. The Prime Minister also assured the industry on continuation of economic reforms saying the reforms of the past have brought advantages and India will continue traveling on this path.

The government has approved creation of seven posts of Indirect Tax Ombudsmen across the country to address complaints and grievances of indirect tax payers. This was disclosed by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni in New Delhi yesterday after a cabinet meeting.
The Union Cabinet approved the creation of seven posts of indirect Tax Ombudsman to be located at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Lucknow and the supporting staff with each of these set ups.
To encourage and expand the use of electric vehicles, the Cabinet approved a proposal to set up a National Mission for electric mobility. This will promote electric mobility and manufacturing electric vehicles in India. The Cabinet also approved setting up of National Board of Electric Mobility - an apex body for making recommendations in electric mobility.
In yet another decision the Cabinet approved tax exemption of about 45 crore rupees for incomes from the ongoing World Cup.

In Assam, poll officials are on their way to reach the inaccessible terrains of Haflong constituency in Dima Hasao for the April 4 Assembly elections. AIR correspondent reports that poll officials will be travelling for three days to reach some polling booths.

The government has allowed foreign diplomats to sell their imported vehicles to any person and not necessarily to fellow diplomats. A notification of Directorate General of Foreign Trade said that the sale of vehicles imported by foreign diplomats and other privileged person is now permitted to other persons also. Prior to this notification, a diplomat was allowed to sell his imported vehicle only to another diplomat or a privileged person. Besides, the vehicle, had to be re-exported after a certain period. Diplomats are now allowed to import vehicles in India without payment of customs duty.

Ahead of the Cricket World Cup final to be played between India and Sri Lanka in Mumbai tomorrow, security has been heightened across the city. Maharashtra Home Minister, RR Patil visited Wankhede Stadium yesterday to review all the security measures.

Parking will be restricted, spectators will be thoroughly checked and no outside food items, including water bottles will be allowed.

In Uttar Pradesh, a special CBI court at Ghaziabad has granted regular bail to all the six accused retired judges in the multi crore Provident Fund scam. The court has granted the bail to the charge sheeted judges on the basis of two sureties of fixed assets worth one lakh rupees each. They were given interim bail on 14th of last month after furnishing bonds of 1 lakh rupees each.
