राष्ट्रमंडल खेल आयोजन समिति के पूर्व अध्यक्ष सुरेश कलमाडी को आज दिल्ली में सीबीआई की विशेष अदालत में पेश किया जाएगा। उन्हें स्विट्जरलैंड की एक कंपनी को राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों का एक ठेका बहुत ऊंचे दाम पर देने के आरोप में कल गिरफतार किया गया था। सीबीआई की प्रवक्ता धारिणी मिश्रा ने बताया कि स्विट्जरलैण्ड की एक कंपनी को घड़ियों का ठेका एक अरब ४१ करोड़ रुपये की बढ़ी हुई कीमत पर देने की साजिश के आरोप में कलमाडी को गिरफ्तार किया गया है।
आरोप यह है कि आयोजन समिति के अधिकारियों ने स्विट्जरलैंड की एक निजी कंपनी के प्रतिनिधियों के साथ सांठ-गांठ की और घड़ियों के ठेके के मामले में अन्य आपूर्तिकर्ताओं को दरकिनार करते हुए बिना किसी प्रतिस्पर्धा के मनमाने और सुनियोजित तरीके से इस कंपनी को ठेका दिया।
सीबीआई सूत्रों ने बताया कि स्विट्जरलैंड की इस कंपनी को फायदा पहुंचाने के लिए राष्ट्रमंडल खेल आयोजन समिति के दो वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों-सुरजीत लाल और ए एस वी प्रसाद को भी गिरफतार किया गया है।
हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि राष्ट्रमंडल खेल आयोजन समिति के पूर्व महासचिव ललित भनोट और पूर्व महानिदेशक वी.के.वर्मा को भी गिरफ्तार किया जा चुका है। लंदन में क्वींस बैटन रिले के आयोजन समेत अब तक आठ मामले दर्ज किये जा चुके हैं। राष्ट्रमंडल खेल आयोजन में घोटाले के सिलसिले में कलमाडी से पूछताछ का सीबीआई का यह चौथा दौर था।
सी बी आई द्वारा गिरफ्तार किए जाने के बाद, सुरेश कलमाड़ी को कांग्रेस पार्टी से निलम्बित कर दिया गया है। पार्टी की अनुशासनात्मक समिति ने इस आशय का फैसला लिया।
खेल मंत्री अजय माकन ने बताया कि भारतीय ओलंपिक संघ-आई. ओ. ए. को अपना नया अध्यक्ष चुनने के लिए कहा जाएगा।
मंत्रालय की तरफ से हम लोग इंडियन ऑलंपिक एसोसिएशन को लिखेंगे की आई ओ ए के प्रेसिडेंड के रूप में कोई ऐसा व्यक्ति नहीं होना चाहिए जो चार्टशीटेड हो और जो जेल में हो।
नई दिल्ली में एक समारोह से अलग श्री माकन ने पत्रकारों को बताया कि अगर आई ओ ऐ ने ऐसा नहीं किया तो उनका मंत्रालय एटॉर्नी जर्नल के मशविरे से खुद कार्रवाई करेगा।

मार्क्सवादी कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ने कलमाडी की गिरफ्तारी का स्वागत किया है। नई दिल्ली में जारी प्रैस विज्ञप्ति में पार्टी ने कहा है कि सीबीआई को सरकारी पैसे का दुरूपयोग करने वालों के खिलाफ भी कार्रवाई करनी चाहिए।
कांग्रेस प्रवक्ता मनीष तिवारी ने भ्रष्टाचार मिटाने के अपनी पार्टी के संकल्प को दोहराते हुए कहा कि कलमाडी को कांग्रेस से निलंबित किया जा चुका है और पार्टी के सांसद के रुप में उनके खिलाफ उचित समय पर उचित कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
सरकार ने उच्चतम न्यायालय को बताया कि विदेशी बैंकों में पडे काले धन को वापस लाने के उपाय करने और मामले की पूरी निगरानी के लिए विभिन्न जांच एजेंसियों और विशेष विभागों के प्रमुखों की एक समिति बनाई गई है। दस सदस्यों की यह समिति तुरंत काम शुरू कर देगी। राजस्व सचिव इस समिति के अध्यक्ष होंगे।
सॉलिसिटर जनरल गोपाल सुब्रहमणियम ने उच्चतम न्यायालय की पीठ को बताया कि यह व्यवस्था काले धन के सभी मामलों के लिए की गई है।
पुद्दुचेरी में प्रवर्तन निदेशालय के अधिकारी उपराज्यपाल इकबाल सिंह से मिले और खबर है कि उनसे पुणे के विवादास्पद व्यापारी हसन अली के साथ उनके संबंधों के बारे में पूछताछ की। हसन अली इस समय काले धन के सिलसिले में जेल में बंद है। पूछताछ के बारे में अभी तुरन्त विस्तृत जानकारी नही मिल पाई है। इस बीच, मुख्यमंत्री श्री वी. वैदलिंगम ने उपराज्यपाल का बचाव किया है और उनके त्यागपत्र की आवश्यकता पर सवाल उठाए हैं।

जम्मू कश्मीर में आतंकवादियों ने नौगांव के एक थाने के पास दो पुलिसकर्मियों की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी है। पुलिस सूत्रों ने बताया कि कल रात लगभग दस बजे हथियारों से लैस आतंकवादियों ने थाने में लौट रहे कुछ पुलिसकर्मियों पर अंधाधुंध गोलियां चलाईं। इसके बाद वे अंधेरे का फायदा उठाकर भाग गए। सुरक्षाबलों ने इलाके को घेर लिया है। किसी भी आतंकवादी गुट ने इस हमले की जिम्मेदारी नहीं ली है।

जम्मू कश्मीर में आतंकवादियों ने नौगांव के एक थाने के पास दो पुलिसकर्मियों की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी है। पुलिस सूत्रों ने बताया कि कल रात लगभग दस बजे हथियारों से लैस आतंकवादियों ने थाने में लौट रहे कुछ पुलिसकर्मियों पर अंधाधुंध गोलियां चलाईं। इसके बाद वे अंधेरे का फायदा उठाकर भाग गए। सुरक्षाबलों ने इलाके को घेर लिया है। किसी भी आतंकवादी गुट ने इस हमले की जिम्मेदारी नहीं ली है।

The CBI has named Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's daughter and Member of Parliament, Kanimozhi for her alleged involvement in the 2G scam. Our Correspondent quoting CBI sources, reports that the investigating agency has concluded in the chargesheet that Kanimozhi was a stake-holder in Kalingnar TV and was pursuing its matters in Delhi. The agency has also named Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar as an accused in the chargesheet. The other 3 persons named in the second chargesheet are Asif Balwa, Rajiv Agarwal and Karim Morani. CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra told reporters that the investigating agency has filed the supplementary charge-sheet in the court of special judge O.P.Saini for CBI cases at Patiala House Court, New Delhi.
"This is in connection with alleged irregularities in the new Unified Access Services Licenses and subsequent allocation of the 2G spectrum during 2008-09. The investigation has established commission of offences punishable under section 120B of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections under the prevention of Corruption Act, then Union Telecom Minister, a Member of Parliament and six Managing Directors / Directors of private firms are liable to be prosecuted. "
Meanwhile, Congress yesterday said that party's alliance with DMK is stable and will not be affected by the chargesheet filed by the CBI.

The sacked Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi will be produced in a special CBI Court in Delhi today. CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra told reporters yesterday that Kalmadi was arrested for conspiracy for favouring a private firm based in Switzerland by awarding the contract of timing, scoring and a result system at an inflated cost of 141 crore rupees.
"It is alleged that the officials of the Organising Committee had conspired with representatives of the private firm in Switzerland and the contract for timing, scoring, result was awarded by wrongfully restricting and eliminating competition from other suppliers in a pre-meditated and planned manner.
In a related development the CBI arrested two other senior officials of CWG Organising Committee, Surjeet Lal and A S V Prasad who have been taken into custody for favoring the Swiss firm. Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken has said the Indian Olympic Association has been asked to elect a new Chairman. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function he said, if the IOA fails to act, his ministry will seek the advice of the Attorney General in this regard and will intervene accordingly.
"After all a person who is tainted, who has been arrested by the CBI on charges of conspiracy, cheating and corruption, he should be allowed to represent India in an international fora and a person behind bars, I don't think, should be president of the IOA. Soon after we came to know officially that CBI has arrested him, we shot off a letter to IOA asking them to remove Mr. Kalmadi from the IOA.
Our correspondent reports that organising committee Secretary Lalit Banot and Director General V.K. Verma have already been arrested. The Congress has suspended Suresh Kalmadi from the party after he was arrested by the CBI in the CWG scam. Congress party spokesman Manish Tiwari while reiterating his party's commitment to weed out corruption, added that appropriate action will be taken against Kalmadi at an appropriate time as a Member of Parliament belonging to the ruling party.

In Puducherry, Officials of the Enforcement Directorate met the Lieutenant Governor Mr. Iqbal Singh and reportedly questioned him about his links with Hasan Ali who is jail for money laundering. Our correspondent reports that officials of the ED were at the Raj Nivas for over 5 hours. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Mr V.Vaithalingam has backed the Lt. Governor. Speaking to newsmen in Puducherry, he said that ED officials meeting Mr Iqbal Singh did not warrant his resignation.
Replying to a query about a trust formed by relatives and aides of Mr. Iqbal Singh attempting to start a medical college in Karaikal, Mr. Vaithalingam said no land was allotted to the trust from the government’s side. He also clarified that Lt. Governor’s sons had resigned from the said trust, before NOC was granted for the project.

The Government yesterday told the Supreme Court that a high powered Committee comprising heads of various probe agencies and specialized departments, has been constituted to monitor the investigation and the steps taken to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks. The 10-member Committee which will start functioning immediately, will be headed by the Revenue Secretary. Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium told the Bench that a co-ordinated mechanism has been put in place to deal with all such cases of black money and this will not be limited to the present case of the Pune stud farm owner Hasan Ali Khan.

In Jammu and a Kashmir , two policemen have been shot dead by militants last night near a police station at Nowgam area. Police officials said that the heavily-armed militants opened indiscriminate firing on a police party returning to Nowgam police station around 10 PM .
The militants escaped from the scene in the cover of darkness. Security forces have cordoned off the area. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In Jharkhand, police has foiled an attempt to detonate bombs on the Sialdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express by some miscreants yesterday at Dhanbad Railways Station. Speaking to our Ranchi correspondent the Railway spokesperson said that three bombs were detected on the upper birth of B-4 coach of the train by an alert passenger soon after the it left Asonsol. The passenger is a commando of a Central Security Agency. The police were immediately informed when train reached Dhanbad railways station. The bombs were neutralized. Investigation is going on. No arrest has been made so far.

In West Bengal, the third phase of Assembly Election in 75 seats covering Kolkata, North and South 24 Pargana District will take place tomorrow. Arrangements for holding the elections are almost complete. Over one crore, forty-four lakh, Fifty-five thousand voters will decide the political fate of 479 candidates.
