सरकार ने कहा है कि जब तक पायलट अपनी हड़ताल खत्म नहीं करते उनसे कोई बातचीत नहीं की जायेगी। नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री व्यालार रवि ने नई दिल्ली में संवाददाताओं बताया कि एयर इंडिया हवाई यातायात सुचारू रखने के प्रयास कर रहा है और ५० प्रतिशत उड़ाने चलाई जा रही हैं। इससे पहले श्री रवि ने प्रधानमंत्री और केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल को हड़ताल से उत्पन स्थिति की जानकारी दी। हमारे संवाददाता ने सरकारी सूत्रों के हवाले से बताया है कि एयर इंडिया यात्रियों को असुविधा से बचाने के लिए अगले पांच दिनों तक घरेलू उड़ानों की कोई नई बुकिंग नहीं करेगा।
चेन्नई से हमारी संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि पायलटों की हड़ताल के मद्देनजर एयर इंडिया प्रबंधन ने कई वैकल्पिक व्यवस्था की है।
चैन्नई एयरपोर्ट से एयर इंडिया की विभिन्न जगहाओं जाने वाली उड़ानों को मिला दिया गया है और भेजा जा रहा है। दिल्ली, मुम्बई, और पोर्टब्लयर के लिए उड़ानों को साथ कर दिया गया है। एयरपोर्ट सूत्रों ने बताया कि चैन्नई से दिल्ली जाने वाली उड़ान हैदराबाद में रुकेगी। सुबह दो बजे से सात बजे जाने वाली उड़ानों को एक साथ करके उड़ाया गया। कोच्ची विशाखापतनम और कोलम्बो की आज की उड़ाने अपने निर्धारित समय में ही उड़ेंगी। एयर इंडिया के यात्रियों को आज उड़ान के लिए बॉडिंग पासेस दे दिये गए हैं। चैन्नई में एस जॉय के साथ दिल्ली से मैं अर्चना साह।

एयर इंडिया के पायलटों के हड़ताल तीसरे दिन भी जारी रहने की वजह से मुम्बई हवाई अड्डे पर यात्रियों को आज भी भारी परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। आज सुबह मुम्बई से गोआ, दिल्ली, त्रिवेन्द्रम, इन्दौर, कोलकाता, बैंगलुरू और चैन्नई जाने वाली करीब सात उड़ानों को रद्द कर दिया गया है। बहरहाल हड़ताल से प्रभावित यात्रियों को होने वाली दिक्कतों को देखकर मध्य और पश्चिम रेलवे ने अतिरिक्त ट्रेने चलाने का फैसला किया है। मध्य रेलवे ने आज तथा कल के लिए मुम्बई और हैदराबाद के बीच दो विशेष ट्रेनों की सुविधा की है। वहीं पश्चिम रेलवे ने मुम्बई और दिल्ली के बीच राजधानी जैसे विशेष ट्रेन की सुविधा की है। स्वीटी कोठारी आकाशवाणी समाचार मुम्बई।
सत्ताधारी गठबंधन के सांसदों ने बाद में कांगे्रस के सैफुददीन सोज को समिति का नया अध्यक्ष चुन लिया। श्री सोज ने मत विभाजन का प्रस्ताव पेश किया और मसौदा रिपोर्ट को नामंजूर कर दिया। श्री सोज ने बाद में बैठक की अध्यक्षता की। उन्होंने बताया कि वे इस पूरी कार्रवाई की रिपोर्ट लोकसभा अध्यक्ष को सौंपेंगे।

राष्ट्रीय सलाहकार परिषद ने साम्प्रदायिक और जातीय दंगों को रोकने संबंधी विधेयक के मसौदे को अंतिम रूप दे दिया है। प्रस्तावित विधेयक अनुसूचित जातियों, जनजातियों तथा धार्मिक और भाषायी अल्पसंख्यकों पर हमलों से निपटने के प्रावधान भी शामिल हैं। विधेयक में दंगों के दौरान अपनी जिम्मेदारी निभाने में विफल रहने को अपराध माना गया है और सरकारी लोगों को जवाबदेह बनाने का प्रावधान है। राष्ट्रीय सलाहकार परिषद की अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी की अध्यक्षता में हुई बैठक में फैसला लिया गया कि विधेयक के मसौदे को सार्वजनिक करते हुए इस पर जनता के विचार आमंत्रित किये जायेंगे जिन पर २५ मई को होने वाली परिषद की बैठक में विचार किया जायेगा।-------------

भारत और पाकिस्तान बिजली और पेट्रोलियम उत्पादों के आपसी व्यापार के कदम उठाने पर सहमत हो गये है। नई दिल्ली में जारी सरकारी विज्ञप्ति में बताया गया है कि भारत के वाणिज्य सचिव राहुल खुल्लर और पाकिस्तानी वाणिज्य सचिव ज+फर महमूद के बीच दो दिन की बातचीत के दौरान आपसी व्यापार से जुड़े १९ फैसले लिए गये। दोनों देशों ने एक दूसरे के उत्पादों पर शुल्क में रियायत देने के लिए वरीयता व्यापार व्यवस्था शुरू करने की संभावनाएं पता लगाने पर भी सहमति व्यक्त की।-------------

Air India operations have been severely affected with around 80 flights being cancelled due to strike by pilots. The Delhi High Court castigated striking Air India pilots for defying its order to immediately call off the agitation and issued notices to their union's office bearers seeking replies as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them.
Government ruled out any possibility of resuming dialogue with the striking pilots till they call off their strike. Briefing reporters in New Delhi yesterday, Civil Aviation Minister Vyalar Ravi said that Air India is trying to maintain air traffic and fifty percent of the domestic flights are being operated.
Earlier in the day, the Minister briefed the Prime Minister and the cabinet over the issue. Spokesperson of Air India, Kanwaljeet Ratan told reporters that the organisation is trying to make alternative arrangement for the passengers.
We tried to organise things in a manner so that least inconvenience to the passengers and run the operation as smooth as possible in the given scenario.
Alternative arrangements have also been made at the Chennai airport for the stranded passengers. A report from AIR correspondent:
At Chennai Airport - Air India flights scheduled to Delhi, Mumbai and Port Blair have been combined and sent. Sources at the Airport say that one flight from Chennai to Delhi will stop over at Hyderabad. Flights scheduled to Mumbai at 2 and 7 a.m. this morning have been combined and sent. Flight to Kochi, Visakhapatnam and Colombo is also scheduled for the day. Air India passengers are provided boarding passes for the scheduled flights. S. Joy reporting from Chennai.

Passengers at Mumbai airport continued to face inconvenience as the Air India pilot’s strike entered third day today. Around 7 flights were cancelled in Mumbai this morning including flights to Goa, Delhi,Trivendrum, Indore, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai. Meanwhile, the Central and Western railways have decided to run additional services to help those air passengers affected by the crippling Air India pilots’ strike. The Central Railway will run two special trains between Mumbai and Hyderabad while the Western Railway will run a Rajdhani-type special train between Mumbai and New Delhi. The Public Accounts Committee meeting remained inconclusive yesterday. Eleven out of 21 members of the Committee rejected the draft report on 2-G scam prepared by the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi. The Committee was scheduled to submit its report by Saturday. Dr.M M Joshi left the meeting after unprecedented scenes were witnessed. Nine members of BJP, JD(U), BJD and AIADMK too left the proceedings after departure of MM Joshi. Later Dr. Joshi told reporters that he adjourned the meeting after he was not allowed to speak by the ruling party members. Noted Political Analyst, Inder Malhotra describes the outcome of the discussion as disappointing.
Parliament's prestige, authority and dignity has been brought down consistently for a long time by its own members. The Parliamentary Committees so far were functioning with due propriety that has ended in a set one of the first possible precedent. I think the Chairman of the Committee Murli Manohar Joshi and his party are responsible but, then so are the Congress and DMK and other members who reacted also in a most unbecoming and inacceptable manner.

The National Advisory Council (NAC) has finalised a draft bill to tackle communal violence including attacks against SC and ST members and religious and linguistic minorities.
The draft Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill also seeks to hold public officials accountable for failure of command responsibility which has been made an offence. A meeting of the NAC, presided by the chairperson Sonia Gandhi, has decided to put the draft bill in public domain to invite comments which could be considered at the next meeting on 25th May. The NAC also decided to identify steps to tackle corruption through various reforms.

The Election Commission has said that it is alive to the problem of black money flowing into assembly elections in West Bengal and has promised to take severe action against the culprits. Briefing the media after meeting top state officials in Kolkata, Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi said that so far over seven and a half crore rupees have been seized in the first three phases of elections.
In West Bengal, repolling has started in two booths in Kolkata and North 24 Pargana district. The repoll is taking place in one booth in Belaghata constituency in Kolkata while another one is at Ashok Nagar seat in North 24 Pargana district. The Election Commission ordered repolling in these polling booths following technical snag in the Electronic Voting Machine where election was held in the third phase on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, campaigning for fourth phase of elections is going on in full swing. The election in this phase will take place in 63 seats covering Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore and parts of Bardhawan district on the 3rd of next month.

The CWG Organising Committee has ordered an internal enquiry to trace those responsible for wiping out crucial vigilance related information from the computer of its Chief Vigilance Officer. OC Chief Executive Officer Jarnail Singh told reporters in New Delhi yesterday that necessary action will be taken accordingly. However, he maintained, there was no loss of data from the incident as it was alternatively saved on a different computer. According to the official, information on the computer of Gurjot Kaur, an Indian Defence Accounts Service Officer, was illegally removed from the system on the 24th of April. The information was regarding tenders, correspondences and findings of investigating agencies like CBI, CVC, CAG, Income Tax department and Enforcement Directorate among others over alleged irregularities in several Games related projects.

To ensure complete safety of nuclear power plants in the country, the government has decided to invite the operational safety review team of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA. This is the first time that India will be inviting the safety and audit team of the IAEA. The government expects a comprehensive environmental impact assessment study of the first two nuclear reactors at Jaitapur to be completed when they are operational in 2019. The National Environmental Engineering Research Institute had earlier conducted an environmental impact assessment study and had said the nuclear power plant would have no impact on the ecology of the region. Nuclear energy accounts for a mere three per cent of India's present power generating capacities. The government aims to raise this to 13 per cent by 2030.

India and Pakistan have agreed to initiate steps for trade of electricity and petroleum products between them. An official document released in New Delhi said that India's Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar and his Pakistani counterpart Zafar Mahmood made 19 decisions relating to bilateral trade during the two-day talks. They also expressed the intent to explore the feasibility of entering into a preferential trade arrangement by extending tariff concessions on products of interests to both the countries. Recognizing that facilitation of business visas was essential for expansion of trade, it was agreed that the private sector, through officially recognised joint chambers, would be involved in this regard.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has said both India and Mauritius have decided to convene the next meeting of the joint working group on the double taxation avoidance agreement. Speaking to reporters on board the special aircraft on her way back home from Mauritius, Mrs Patil said both the countries are of the view to expand the area of trade and economic cooperation. AIR correspondent who covered the President’s visit reports both the countries have agreed to enhance exchanges in the fields of higher education, information technology, tourism, hospitality, culture and people to people contacts.
During her five-day State Visit to Mauritius, President Mrs Patil in her discussions with the top leadership of the country raised India's concerns over piracy in the Indian Ocean. Mrs Patil said the two countries can continue to work together in responding to security threats at sea. Mauritian Prime minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam appreciated India's role in helping Mauritius in combating piracy at high seas. In her address to the National Assembly of Mauritius, President Patil identified terrorism as a threat to global peace and called for combating it effectively. While addressing a meeting of the India-Mauritius Business Forum, she emphasised the need to realize the full potential of bi-lateral trade. In the United States, devastating tornadoes and storms have claimed more than 280 lives in southern part of the country .President Obama has described the loss of lives in violent storms across the southern United States as heart-breaking.

The story of the PAC rejecting the the draft 2G report by vote at its meeting has figured prominently on the front pages of all major newspapers today. "PAC report in limbo as UPA MPs oppose it, Joshi says no to vote" reads a headline in The Times of India. Under the headline, "UPA coup leaves Joshi battered", Hindustan Times reports that backed by BSP, SP, Congress led 9-member group rejects the committee's findings. Mail Today under the caption, "Joshi outwits cocky Congress" reports that the Congress has claimed Saifuddin Soz has been appointed new PAC chief and hopes the speaker will reject the 2G report on procedural grounds.
The Air India pilots' strike has also been widely covered on the front pages by most major dailies. "Strike at Air India gets bigger, no bookings till May 3" reports The Asian Age. Under the headline, "Air India pilots' strike enters the second day", The Hindu reports that 80 flights, most of them in the domestic sector were being cancelled or curtailed.
The news of US ambassador to India, Timothy Roemer's announcement to quit his post has been reported by The Times of India under the headline, "Roemer quits day after US loses jet deal". Reporting under the caption, "Day after India turns down US aircraft bids, envoy quits", Hindustan Times reports that the announcement comes a day after Delhi rejected two American bids for its 10 billion dollar aircraft deal.
