सरकार ने एयर इंडिया के हड़ताली पायलटों के खिलाफ कड़ा रूख अपनाते हुए समान वेतन की उनकी मांग पर वार्ता करने से इंकार कर दिया है। नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्री वायलार रवि ने कहा कि पायलट संघ के कुछ सदस्य अपनी मांग मनवाने के लिए सरकार पर दबाव नहीं डाल सकते। उन्होंने बताया कि सरकार ने एयर इंडिया से हड़ताली पायलटों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई करने के लिए कहा है, क्योंकि हड़ताल पर जाने का उनका फैसला गैर जिम्मेदाराना है। श्री वायलार रवि ने कहा कि स्थिति पर काबू पाने के लिए एयर इंडिया प्रबंधन द्वारा की जाने वाली हर कार्रवाई का सरकार समर्थन करेगी। उन्होंने वित्तीय संकट से निपटने में एयर इंडिया के सभी कर्मचारियों से सहयोग की अपील करते हुए कहा कि एयर इंडिया को सभी वर्गों के कर्मचारियों का समर्थन मिल रहा है और विभिन्न समितियां ४१ हजार से अधिक कर्मचारियों की मांगों पर विचार कर रही है।

इससे पहले एयर इंडिया प्रबंधन ने भारतीय वाणिज्यिक पायलट संघ के छह नेताओं को बर्खास्त कर दिया। एयर इंडिया प्रबंधन ने हड़ताल को अवैध घोषित कर दिया और संघ की मान्यता रद्द कर दी। मुंबई और दिल्ली में उसके कार्यालयों को सील कर दिया गया है। एयर इंडिया के अध्यक्ष और प्रबंध निदेशक अरविन्द जाधव ने हड़ताली पायलटों के नाम लिखे खुले पत्र में हड़ताल को दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण बताया है।  एयर इंडिया के प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि विमानों की उड़ानों के लिए डेढ़ सौ मेनेजमेंट पायलटों की सेवा लेने का फैसला किया गया है।

दूसरी ओर पायलट संघ ने कहा है कि उनकी हड़ताल तब तक जारी रहेगी जब तक सरकार हस्तक्षेप नहीं करती।

हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि हड़ताल के कारण २७ उड़ानें रद्द होने और सात अन्य को दूसरी उड़ानों के साथ जोड़ देने से यात्रियों को काफी परेशानियों का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। मुंबई से ओरंगाबाद और ग्वालियर जाने वाली उड़ानों सहित कई उड़ानों को भी रद्द कर दिया गया है।

पायलटों और एयर इंडिया प्रबंधन के बीच वार्ता विफल हो जाने के बाद आठ सौ से अधिक पायलट आज सुबह हड़ताल पर चले गए।

पश्चिम बंगाल विधानसभा चुनाव के तीसरे चरण में आज करीब ७८ दशमलव तीन प्रतिशत वोट डाले गए। निर्वाचन उपायुक्त विनोद जुत्शी ने नई दिल्ली में बताया कि उत्तर और दक्षिण चौबीस परगना में वोटों का प्रतिशत ज्यादा हो सकता है। राज्य में २००६ के विधानसभा चुनाव में ७७ दशमलव नौ प्रतिशत वोट पड़े थे, जबकि २००९ के लोकसभा चुनाव में ७८ दशमलव नौ-चार प्रतिशत वोट पड़े थे। श्री जुत्शी ने कहा कि आज चार जिलों के ७५ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में वोट डाले गए। ये जिले हैं उत्तर चौबीस परगना, दक्षिण चौबीस परगना और कोलकाता। उन्होंने कहा कि पिछले दो चरणों की तरह इस चरण में भी मतदान शांतिपूर्ण हुआ और किसी अप्रिय घटना की खबर नहीं है।

आज कोई भी पोल बायकाट की घटना सामने नहीं आई, न ही कोई बुथ कैप्चरिंग का हादसा हुआ, न कोई सीरियस कम्लेंट हुई। मतदान पूर्ण रूप से शांतिपूर्ण रहा। मतदान का प्रतिशत अब तक का ७८ दशमलव तीन प्रतिशत रिकार्ड किया गया है। लगभग २०० पुलिस स्टेशनों से डायरेक्ट वेब कास्टिंग की कार्रवाई की गई।

श्री जुत्शी ने बताया कि निर्वाचन आयोग ने तृणमूल कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष को एक पत्र लिखा है जिसमें दो राष्ट्रीयकृत बैंकों में पैसों के लेनदेन के आरोपों के बारे में बताने के लिए कहा गया है। उन्होंने बताया कि मार्क्सवादी पार्टी के नेता सीताराम येचुरी की शिकायतों के बारे में निर्वाचन आयोग सबूत इकट्ठा कर रहा है।

ड्यूटी में लापरवाही के कारण उन्नीस चुनाव अधिकारियों को हटा दिया गया है। तकनीकी खराबी के कारण एक सौ छह इलैक्ट्रोनिक वोटिंग मशीनों को बदला गया है। हमारे संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि इस चरण में ८० प्रतिशत से अधिक मतदान हो सकता है।

आज का मतदान मूलतः शहरी इलाकों में सीमित था पर ८० फीसदी से ज्यादा वोटिंग की उम्मीद है। क्योंकि आकड़ों का संकलन फिलहाल जारी है। कोलकाता में कुछ कम वोट पड़े, पर महानगर से सटे दोनों जिलों में जमकर लोगों ने वोट उत्सव मनाया। तीन चरणों के मतदान के बाद अब चुनावी समर उन इलाकों में जा पहुचेगा जहां भूमिअधिग्रहण और माओवादी हिंसा प्रचार के मुख्य अस्त्र होंगे।

आज जिन प्रमुख उम्मीदवारों के राजनीतिक भाग्य इलैक्ट्रोनिक वोटिंग मशीनों में बंद हुए उनमें शामिल हैं। मुख्यमंत्री बुद्धदेव भट्टाचार्य और उनके मंत्रिमंडलीय सहयोगी असीम दासगुप्ता, गौतम देव, अब्दुल रज्जाक मुल्ला तथा तृणमूल कांग्रेस नेता पार्था चटर्जी, कोलकाता के मेयर शोवन चटर्जी, अमित मित्रा और पूर्व मुख्य सचिव मनीष गुप्ता।

इस बीच, पूर्ण निर्वाचन आयोग पश्चिम बंगाल में विधानसभा चुनाव के अंतिम तीन चरणों की तैयारियों की समीक्षा के लिए कल राज्य का दौरा करेगा। मुख्य निर्वाचन आयुक्त एस वाई कुरैशी और दो निर्वाचन आयुक्त वी एस सम्पत और एच एस ब्रह्‌मा, कल सुबह कोलकाता पहुंचेगे और राजनीतिक दलों के प्रतिनिधियों के साथ बैठक करेंगे। वे राज्य के मुख्य सचिव, गृहसचिव और पुलिस महानिदेशक के साथ चुनाव तैयारियों और सुरक्षा इंतजामों के बारे में बातचीत करेंगे।

बिहार में पंचायत चुनाव के तीसरे चरण में करीब ६१ प्रतिशत वोट डाले गए। हमारे पटना संवाददाता ने खबर दी है कि राज्य के किसी हिस्से से कोई बड़ी घटना की सूचना नहीं है। बाकि सात चरणों के बाद, पंचायत चुनाव १८ मई को सम्पन्न हो जायेगा। चौथे चरण का मतदान ३० अप्रैल को होगा।

महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्र.ी पृथ्वीराज चव्हाण विधान परिषद के लिए चुन लिए गए हैं। आज नामांकन वापस लेने के अन्तिम दिन मुम्बई में उनके निर्विरोध चुने जाने की घोषणा की गई।

टू-जी स्पेक्ट्रम घोटाले के विभिन्न पहलुओं की जांच कर रही लोक लेखा समिति के अध्यक्ष मुरली मनोहर जोशी ने इसकी रिपोर्ट पर सदस्यों के विचार जानने के लिए इसका मसौदा उन्हें सौपा है। समिति  ने इस घोटाले के सिलसिले में कई बड़ी हस्तियों और दूरसंचार विभाग के अधिकारियों से पूछताछ की थी। उन्होंने नियंत्रक और महालेखा परीक्षक, प्रमुख उद्योगपति रतन टाटा, अनिल अंबानी और कार्पोरेट लॉबिस्ट नीरा राडिया से भी पूछताछ की थी।

डीएमके प्रमुख एम करूणानिधि ने  कहा है कि उनकी पार्टी टू-जी स्पैक्ट्रम मामले की सच्चाई सामने लाने के लिए कानूनी लड़ाई लडेगी। आज चेन्नई में संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में उन्होंने कहा कि पार्टी के वकील तय करेगें कि कलैग्नार टीवी के सीईओ शरद कुमार और सुश्री कनिमोरि की अग्रिम जमानत के लिए अपील की जाये या नहीं। यह पूछे जाने पर कि क्या सुश्री कनिमोरी छह  तारीख को अदालता में पेश होंगी, उन्होंने कहा है कि वे मामले में पूरा सहयोग करेंगी।

केंद्रीय सतर्कता आयोग को राष्ट्रमंडल खेल आयोजन समिति की पांच बड़ी परियोजनाओं में गंभीर अनियमितताओं का पता चला है। राष्ट्रमंडल खेल परियोजनाओं में हुई अनियमितताओं पर ताज+ा रिपोर्ट में आयोग ने कहा है कि श्री सुरेश कलमाडी के नेतृत्व वाली आयोजन समिति ने कुछ निजी कंपनियों को फायदा पहुंचाने के लिए सात सौ अट्ठारह करोड़ तैंतीस लाख रुपये की परियोजनाओं का ठेका देने के लिए उसकी पात्रता में गलत तरीके से फेरबदल किया। इनमें टिकटों संबंधी कार्य, मान्यता पहचान-पत्र कार्य और फिटनेस मशीनों की खरीददारी जैसे कार्य शामिल हैं।

पुड्डुचेरी में आज ऑल इंडिया अन्ना डी.एम.के. पार्टी के नेतृत्व में विपक्षी दलों का बंद शांतिपूर्ण रहा। उपराज्यपाल इकबाल सिंह के हसन अली खान के साथ संबंधों सहित कई विवादों में कथित रूप से शामिल होने के कारण केंद्र द्वारा उन्हें वापस बुलाने की मांग को लेकर बंद किया गया।

पुडुचेरी के उपराज्यपाल इकबाल सिंह ने आज नई दिल्ली में गृहमंत्री पी चिदम्बरम से मुलाकात की। यह मुलाकात प्रवर्तन निदेशालय द्वारा श्री इकबाल सिंह से हसन अली के साथ कथित संबंधों के बारे में पूछताछ के बाद हुई।

झारखंड के धनबाद में प्रदर्शनकारियों को तितर-बितर करने के लिए पुलिस की गोलीबारी में तीन लोगों की मौत हो गई है और २१ घायल हो गए हैं। घायलों को धनबाद के सरकारी अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है। प्रदर्शनकारी धनबाद में सरकारी जमीन से अतिक्रमण हटाने के सरकारी अभियान का विरोध कर रहे थे।

इस बीच, मुख्यमंत्री अर्जुन मुंडा ने इस गोलीबारी की जांच का आदेश दिया है। यह जांच उत्तरी छोटा नागपुर के मंडल आयुक्त करेंगे।

श्री सत्य साईं बाबा को आज आन्ध्रप्रदेश में पुट्टापर्थी में अश्रुपूर्ण विदाई दी गई। आज सुबह प्रशांति निलयम के कुलवंत हॉल में उनके पार्थिव शरीर को साईं मंत्रोंच्चार के बीच समाधि दी गई। इस अवसर पर उनके निकट संबंधियों के अलावा पूर्व उप प्रधानमंत्री लालकृष्ण आडवाणी,  आन्ध्रप्रदेश के राज्यपाल नरसिम्हन और पंजाब के राज्यपाल शिवराज पाटिल और आन्ध्रप्रदेश तथा कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री भी उपस्थित थे। अन्तिम संस्कार से पहले बाबा के पार्थिव शरीर को कुछ समय के लिए तिरंगे में लपेटा गया और आन्ध्रप्रदेश के सशस्त्र पुलिस जवानों ने उनके सम्मान में २१ तोपों की सलामी दी।

लीबिया में फरवरी में शुरू हुए आंदोलन के दौरान मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन के आरोपों की जांच के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र का एक दल त्रिपोली गया है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार परिषद ने लीबिया की सरकार द्वारा प्रदर्शनकारियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की खबरों के बाद इस दल को नियुक्त किया है। सरकार ने कहा है कि वह जांच में सहयोग करेगी। तीन जांचकर्ताओं ने कहा कि वे सभी ज्यादतियों की छानबीन करेंगे, चाहे ये सरकार की ओर से हुई हों या विद्रोहियों या नाटो सेना की ओर से।

तापी गैस पाइपलाइन परियोजना से संबंधित देशों की परिचालन समिति की कल होने वाली बैठक में गैस का एक समान मूल्य तय करने के मुद्दे पर प्रमुखता से चर्चा होगी। इसमें तुर्कमेनिस्तान, अफगानिस्तान, पाकिस्तान और भारत के तेल मंत्री सात अरब साठ करोड डॉलर की तापी गैस पाइपलाइन परियोजना के तहत गैस की बिक्री और अन्य पहलुओं पर विचार करेंगे।

डंकन फ्लेचर भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम के नये कोच बनाए गये हैं। उन्हें दो वर्ष के लिए नियुक्त किया गया है। जिम्बाब्वे निवासी, ६२ वर्षीय फ्लेचर १९९९ से २००७ तक इंग्लैंड के कोच रहे।

कांग्रेस महासचिव राहुल गांधी ने आज उत्तर प्रदेश में राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन के अमल में कथित अनियमितताओं के सिलसिले में लखनऊ  का दौरा किया।  श्री गांधी और प्रदेश कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष रीता बहुगुणा जोशी ने सूचना अधिकार कानून के तहत एक आवेदन दिया जिसमें योजना पर अमल करने और धन के इस्तेमाल के बारे में जानकारी मांगी गई है।

श्री राहुल गांधी मुख्य चिकित्सा अधिकारी डॉक्टर बी पी सिंह के घर भी गए जिनकी दो अप्रैल को हत्या कर दी गई थी। उन्होंने कहा कि उनकी पार्टी इस हत्याकांड की सी बी आई से जांच कराने के पक्ष में है।

मुंबई शेयर बाजार में आज लगातार तीसरे दिन गिरावट आई और सेंसेक्स ९७ अंकों के नुकसान से १९ हजार ४४९ पर बंद हुआ। नेशनल स्टाक एक्सचेंज का निफ्‌टी आज ३५ अंक गिरकर ५ हजार ८३४ पर बंद हुआ।

Taking a tough stand against striking pilots, Government today ruled out any negotiations on their demand of pay parity. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Civil Aviation Minister Vyalar Ravi said that a fraction of pilots' association cannot dictate terms to the government.

The Minister asserted that the government has asked Air India to take firm action against the striking pilots as their decision to go on strike is irresponsible. He said that Government will support every action taken by the Air India management to control the situation. While urging all employees of Air India to cooperate in dealing with the financial crisis, Mr Vyalar Ravi said that the national carrier is getting support from all sections of employees and different committees are looking into the demands of over 41000 employees.

Earlier, the Air India management sacked six pilots belonging to the Commercial Pilots Association. The management also declared their strike as illegal and derecognised ICPA. Its offices in Mumbai and Delhi have also been sealed. In an open letter to the striking pilots, Air India CMD, Arvind Jadhav accussed them of being insensitive  towards the convenience of the passengers.

More than 800 pilots went on a strike this morning after the talks between the Pilots and Air India management broke down.

About 78.3 per cent polling was recorded in the third phase of Assembly Elections in West Bengal today. Briefing reporters in New Delhi this evening, the Deputy Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India Mr. Vinod Zutshi said that people are still standing  in queues in North and South 24 Parganas and the poll percentage is likely to go up once the voting is over. 

In reply to a query Mr. Zutshi said that the Commission had written a letter to the President of Trinamool Congress inquiring about allegations regarding transactions with two nationalised banks. Mr. Zutshi further added that the Commission is also collating the evidences on the complaints of CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechuri. Our correspondent reports that 19 Presiding officers were removed for dereliction of duties in North 24 Pargana including three in Kolkata. Five polling officials were also removed on health grounds. a 106 Electronic Voting Machines have been replaced due to technical snags. State Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta informed that around 100 persons were rounded off from the three districts as a  preventive measure. The special observer appointed by the Election Commission Mr S.Srinivasan has expressed satisfaction over the voting in the three districts.  More from our correspondent..

              

Despite being held in predominantly urban areas, voting percentage is likely to cross 80 percent mark as datas are still being compiled. Though Kolkata proper recorded slightly less vote, the voters in adjoining districts came out in large numbers. And in this numbers game, both the left and the Trinamul Congress are claiming that the high turnout is in their favour. The full Election Commission is again visiting West Bengal tomorrow to oversee the poll preparedness for the last three phases of the assembly elections.  Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi and the other two Election Commissioners, V.S. Sampath and H.S. Brahma will arrive in Kolkata in the morning and will hold meeting with the representatives of the political parties. State Additional Chief Electoral Officer N.K. Sahana said, in the afternoon, the full Commission will hold a a review meeting with the district magistrates, police superintendents, DIGs and IGs of police and divisional commissioners of the seven districts of West Bengal.

An estimated 61 per cent voters today exercised their franchise in the third phase of panchayat polls in Bihar . AIR Patna correspondent reports that no major incident was reported from any part of the state. The State Election Commissioner J K Dutta informed  that Kishanganj district recorded the highest voter turnout at 74 percent, while Sheikhpura district witnessed the lowest turnout at 51 per cent.

The Central Vigilance Commission has found serious deficiencies in five major projects carried out by the Common Wealth Games Organising Committee,OC. In its latest report on irregularities in CWG projects, the Commission said that the Suresh Kalmadi-led OC had wrongfully moulded eligibility criteria in tenders to pave the way for certain private firms to help them make profit out of the projects worth  718 crore 33 lakh rupees. The work included ticketing, accreditation card work, purchase of fitness equipment and overlays.

Uniform price for gas for all three importing countries including India will be the centre of discussions in the Steering Committee Meeting on TAPI Gas pipeline project tomorrow. Oil Ministers of Turkmanistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India are meeting in New Delhi to discuss the gas sales and other details of the 7.6 billion dollar TAPI Gas pipeline project. The technical feasibility of the project has already been given. The officials of the four countries held intensive discussions for three days ahead of the Steering Committee Meeting. Our correspondent quoting highly placed offficial sources reports that the talks will also focus on the proposal to appoint a technical advisor for assisting in forming a consortium for laying and operating the pipeline.

A UN team has arrived in Tripoli to investigate the allegations of human rights violations in Libya since the start of the conflict in February.  The team was appointed by the UN Human Rights Council following the Libyan government's crackdown on protesters.  The government has said that it will co-operate with the inquiry.  The three investigators say they will look at all alleged abuses, including those which the government says have been committed by rebels or Nato forces.

Top seed Saina Nehwal has bowed out of the Women's Singles in the on-going Indian Open Super Series badminton tournament.  At the Siri Fort Complex in New Delhi today, the 21-year old Indian ace lost to Ai Goto of Japan in straight sets 17-21, 19-21 in the first round.

In the first round of the Men's singles young shuttler Sourabh Verma created the biggest upset of the day.  The 20-year old qualifier defeated Athens Olympics bronze medallist Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia in straight sets 21-18, 21-19.

Former captain of Zimbabwe  Duncan Fletcher was today appointed India's cricket coach. The 62-year-old Zimbabwean, who coached England from 1999 to 2007, will take over the job for a two-year period. A from our sports desk.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Pune Warriors by eight wickets in the IPL cricket match at DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai today. Electing to bat,  Pune Warriors set a victory target of 142 runs as they had finished with 141 for Six in  20 overs. The Chennai team overhauled the victory target by making 145 for two in 19.3 overs.   S. Badrinath top-scored with an unbeaten 63.In the other IPL encounter, now under way at the Nehru Stadium in Kochi,  Deccan Chargers were 83 for 3 in 14 overs  against Kochi Tuskers Kerala, a short while ago.
