 एयर इंडिया के पायलटों ने दस दिन से चल रही हड़ताल खत्म कर दी है।  बर्खास्त और निलंबित पायलटों को नौकरी पर वापस लेने, उनकी यूनियन को फिर से मान्यता देने और कथित अनियमितताएं दूर करने के लिए सरकार के सहमत होने के बाद कल देर शाम पायलटों ने हड़ताल वापस लेने का फैसला किया। इंडियन कमर्शियल पायलट्स असोसिएशन के अध्यक्ष कैप्टन ए एस भिंडर ने सरकार के साथ बातचीत के बाद पत्रकारों को बताया कि तत्कालीन इंडियन एयरलाइन्स के लगभग आठ सौ पायलट काम पर लौट आयेंगे। नागर विमानन मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों के साथ पांच घण्टे बातचीत के बाद आई सी पी ए के महासचिव ऋषभ कपूर के साथ श्री भिंडर ने दावा किया कि सरकार कथित अनियमितताओं की जांच करने पर सहमत हो गई है।
 पायलट आधी रात से काम पर लौटने लगे हैं। घरेलू उड़ानों के लिए बुकिंग शुरू हो गई है। एयर इंडिया के प्रवक्ता का कहना है कि सेवाएं फिर से सामान्य होने में दो दिन लग सकते हैं।
 नागर विमानन मंत्री व्यालार रवि ने हड़ताल खत्म होने पर प्रसन्नता व्यक्त की।

मैं आश्वस्त करता हू कि हम जनता को बेहतर सेवायें देंगे और मैं कर्मचारियों को भरोसा दिलाता हूं कि धर्माधिकारी समिति कर्मचारियों को हर वर्ग के हितों का ध्यान रखेंगे। सरकार कोई दुर्भावना नहीं रखेगी।
 हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया कि हड़ताल के कारण एयर इंडिया को लगभग डेढ सौ करोड़ रुपये का घाटा हुआ है।
हवाई जहाज में सफर करने वाले यात्रियों के लिए अच्छी खबर यह है कि प्राइवेट एयरलाइन अब ज्यादा किराया वसूल नहीं कर पाएंगे। अब वक्त आया है कि दोनों मेनेजमेंट और एयरलाइन में काम करने वाले लोग जिनमें पायलट भी शामिल है मिलकर इसकी आर्थिक स्थिति को मजबूत बनाने में जुट जाएं। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए मैं दिल्ली से विजय रैना।

 पश्चिम बंगाल में विधानसभा चुनाव के पांचवें चरण में पश्चिम मेदिनीपुर, बांकुड़ा, पुरूलिया और वर्धमान जिलों के कुछ हिस्सों के ३८ निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में आज वोट डाले जा रहे हैं। हमारे संवाददाता ने बताया है कि चार जिलों में राज्य पुलिस के अलावा केंद्रीय अर्द्वसैनिक बल की ४५० कंपनियों को तैनात किया गया है। हमारे संवाददाता की ये रिपोर्ट-
पुरूलिया जिले में पांच सीटों पर मतदान का काम शांतिपूर्ण तरीके से चल रहा है। मैंंने रघुनाथपुर और काशीपुर विधानसभा सीटों का निरिक्षण किया और पाया कि वोटरों में काफी उत्साह है। हांलांकि कुछ इलाकों में माओवादियों ने वोट बहिष्कार का नारा बुलंद किया पर सुरक्षा के भूतपूर्व इंतजाम को देखकर लोग बेखौफ होकर वोटिंग कर रहे हैं। जहां तक सुरक्षा की बात कर रहे थे तो फलाइंग स्पोर्ट वेन के अलावा हर बूथ पर केंद्रीय बल के जवान तैनात हैं। हेलीकॉप्टर से भी दिन में निगरानी रखी जाएगी। तथा सीमांचल क्षेत्र एवं खासकर चैकपोस्टों पर स ंघन तलाशी अभियान जारी है। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए पुरूलिया से मैं शंभूनाथ चौधरी।

 नगालैंड में एओंगलेंडेन विधानसभा क्षेत्र के उप चुनाव के लिए आज वोट डाले जा रहे हैं। इस उप चुनाव में कांग्रेस के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री डा० एस सी जामिर और सत्तारूढ़ नगालैंड पीपुल्स फ्रंट के तोशीपोकबा के बीच मुकाबला हो रहा है।

 उत्तर प्रदेश में पिपराइच विधान सभा सीट के लिए कल मतदान होगा। इस उप-चुनाव में दो महिलाओं सहित तेरह उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में हैं। वोटों की गिनती तेरह मई को की जायेगी।

 टू जी स्पैक्ट्रम मामले में दिल्ली में सीबीआई की विशेष अदालत डी एम के सांसद कनीमोरी की जमानत की अर्जी पर आज सुनवाई करेगी। उन्होंने गिरफ्तारी से बचने के लिए कल ये अर्जी दाखिल की थी। सीबीआई के विशेष न्यायाधीश ओ पी सैनी ने जमानत अर्जी पर फैसला होने तक यथास्थिति बनाए रखने का आदेश दिया।
 कनीमोरी और कलइंगार टी वी के प्रबंध निदेशक शरद कुमार की जमानत की अर्जी पर दलील देते हुए उनके वकील राम जेठमलानी ने कहा कि टू जी स्पैक्ट्रम मामले में कनीमोरी की कोई भूमिका नहीं थी और कलइंगार टी वी में बीस प्रतिशत शेयरों के अलावा दिन प्रति दिन के मामले में उनकी कोई भूमिका नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा कि कनीमोरी इस टी वी चैनल के बोर्ड की न तो सदस्य है और न ही कभी उन्होंने बोर्ड की बैठक में हिस्सा लिया तथा एक महिला होने के नाते वे जमानत की हकदार हैं।
 तमिलनाडु के मुख्यमंत्री एम करूणानिधि की पुत्री कनीमोरी के साथ उनके पति अरविन्दन और पार्टी के ११ सांसद भी अदालत में मौजूद थे। कनीमोरी ने कहा है कि वे पूरी तरह से निर्दोष हैं।

 उत्तर प्रदेश में सभी प्रमुख विपक्षी  दलों ने कहा है कि वरिष्ठ पी डब्ल्यू डी इंजीनियर की हत्या में बहुजन समाज पार्टी के विधायक शेखर तिवारी के दोषी साबित होने के बाद मायावती सरकार ने सत्ता में रहने का नैतिक अधिकार खो दिया है। शेखर तिवारी और तीन पुलिसकर्मियों सहित उनके नौ सहयोगियों को २००८ में औरैया में पी डब्ल्यू डी के इंजीनियर मनोज कुमार गुप्ता की हत्या के लिए आजीवन कारावास की सजा सुनाई गई है। लखनऊ की एक विशेष अदालत ने विधायक की पत्नी विभा तिवारी को सबूत नष्ट करने के आरोप में ढाई साल कारावास की सजा सुनाई है।
 मुख्य विपक्षी दल समाजवादी पार्टी ने कहा है कि इस फैसले से मनोज कुमार गुप्ता के शोक संतप्त परिवार को न्याय मिला है। भारतीय जनता पार्टी के प्रदेश अध्यक्ष सूर्य प्रताप शाही ने कहा कि इस फैसले से साबित हो गया है कि सत्तारूढ पार्टी के नेताओं ने सत्ता का किस तरह दुरूपयोग किया है। कांग्रेस विधायक दल के नेता प्रमोद तिवारी ने कहा कि विधानसभा के भीतर और बाहर बसपा सदस्यों पर भ्रष्टाचार और जबरन वसूली के आरोप सही साबित हो गए हैं।
 मृत इंजीनियर के परिवार और उत्तर प्रदेश इंजीनियर्स असोसिएशन ने अदालत के फैसले का स्वागत किया है।

 लोकपाल विधेयक तैयार करने के लिए संयुक्त मसौदा समिति की आज फिर नई दिल्ली में बैठक होगी। इससे पहले दो बैठकों में विधेयक का मसौदा तय करने की प्रक्रिया तेज करने का फैसला हो चुका है। समिति में पांच मंत्री और समाज के पांच प्रतिनिधि शामिल हैं। दूसरी बैठक में दोनों पक्षों ने प्रस्तावित विधेयक के अपने-अपने मसौदे एक दूसरे को सौंपे और कई प्रमुख मुद्दों पर चर्चा की। हमारे संवाददाता के अनुसार आज की बैठक में प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय और न्यायपालिका को प्रस्तावित विधेयक के दायरे में लाने जैसे मुद्दों पर मुख्य रूप से चर्चा होने की संभावना है। इन संस्थाओं को विधेयक के दायरे में लाने पर सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं और कानूनी विशेषज्ञों के बीच मतभेद हैं।

 गुरूदेव रवीन्द्रनाथ ठाकुर की १५०वीं जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में वर्ष भर के समरोहों का शुभारंभ आज नई दिल्ली में होगा। प्रधानमंत्री डॉ मनमोहन सिंह इसका उद्घाटन करेंगे। इस मौके पर राष्ट्रीय सलाहकार परिषद की अध्यक्ष सोनिया गांधी भी मौजूद रहेंगी। डॉ मनमोहन सिंह रवीन्द्रनाथ ठाकुर की कहानियों पर आधारित फिल्मों की छह डीवीडी भी जारी करेंगे। वर्ष भर के समारोह के दौरान कई सांस्कृतिक और साहित्यिक कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया जाएगा और नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित रवीन्द्रनाथ ठाकुर की स्मृति में डाक टिकट और सिक्के जारी किए जाएंगे।
 नई दिल्ली में उद्घाटन समारोह में बांग्लादेश का प्रतिनिघित्व वहां के योजना मंत्री ए के खांडकर करेंगे।
 भारत और बांग्लादेश ने पिछले वर्ष रवीन्द्रनाथ ठाकुर की डेढ़ सौवीं जयंती संयुक्त रूप से मनाने का फैसला किया था।

Air India pilots have called off their 10-day-old strike. This follows an agreement late yesterday evening between the government and the pilots to reinstate sacked and suspended pilots, restore recognition to their union and to look into their complaints of irregularities.  Emerging after five hours of talks with Civil Aviation Ministry officials, the Indian Commercial Pilots Association General Secretary Rishabh Kapur claimed that the government has agreed to look into all irregularities.

Some things have gotten resolved and some things will get resolved, that is the faith that we kept in the government." "They have reinstated all our terminated employees. They have re-recognised the ICPA, they have set a timeframe for the committee that they have set in, called the Dharam Adhikari Committee.

The Pilots have started returning to work since midnight last night.  Booking of tickets for domestic sectors has been resumed by the Airlines.  A spokesman of Air India said that it might take two days to resume normal services. 

Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi expressed happiness over the pilots ending their stir. He said there is no ill feeling and that there will be no feeling of vengeance.

 I can assure the public that we will do the best to improve the service and also I can assure the employees that Dharma Adhikari Committee report would be implemented at the earliest as soon as I get it and all section of the employees in this would be taken care of."

The talks between striking pilots and government representatives began on Wednesday after initial stalemate. They held several rounds before an agreement could be reached. For air travellers the good news is that it will rein the private airlines charging higher fares. The airline is estimated to have suffered a loss of one hundred and fifty crore rupees. It is now time for both management and working class including the pilots to take stock of the situation and put the national airlines on the path of financial recovery. Vijay Raina Air News Delhi.

Polling is underway for the fifth phase of assembly elections in West Bengal. Voting is taking place in 38 constituencies spread over West Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan districts in this phase. Polling which started at 7 am, will end at 5 in the evening. 193 candidates including State Health Minister Surya Kanta Mishra and Pradesh Congress President Mana Bhuiya are in the fray. More than 9,400 polling booths have been set up in four districts. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls. Besides the State Police, 450 Companies of the Central Para-Military forces have been deployed. Two helicopters are also pressed into service for air surveillance.  Two General, 7 Expenditure and four Police observers are constantly monitoring the poll process. Voting is on in all the five assembly seats in  Purulia district. In many booths voters have come well before the start of the poll process and the continuous surge of the voters is really an encouraging site. Though at some places Maoists have given the call of poll boycott but the same has failed to dampen the spirit of the voter. More over massive security is in  place for this phase of polling. Out of six hundred companies of central forces one hundred fifteen companies have been deployed in Purulia itself  apart from a large posse of state police. Observers and firing squad vans are crisscrossing the assembly segment to instill confidence among the voters. Shambhu Nath Choudhury reporting for All India Radio from Purulia district.

In Nagaland, polling has begun in the by-election to the Aonglenden Assembly constituency.  Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair poll.  Former Nagaland Chief Minister and ex-Governor of Maharashtra and Goa Dr S.C.  In Nagaland, polling for the by-election began from 7 am this morning. Voters started lining up in front of booths hours before the polling began despite unfavorable weather conditions following a smart shower in the wee hours. Spread across 14 polling booths, over 12757 voters are expected to exercise their franchise to determine the fate of Dr S.C. Jamir of Congress and Mr. Toshipokba Longkumer, a two time contestant of the ruling Nagaland People’s Front, NPF. Special security arrangements have been beefed up by deploying additional police forces in all the polling stations to prevent any untoward incidents. Anenla Jamir, AIR News, Kohima.

The Special CBI Court in Delhi will continue hearing the bail application of DMK MP Kanimozhi in the 2G scam case. She moved the court yesterday seeking bail in the case. The court adjourned the hearing till today. Special CBI Judge O P Saini also ordered status quo till he decides on the bail application. During the day long arguments on the bail applications for Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar, her lawyer Ram Jethmalani said Kanimozhi had no role in the scam. Mr Jethmalani said, apart from having 20 per cent shares in Kalaignar TV , Kanimozhi does not have any role in running its day-to-day affairs. He said she is neither a board member nor has she attended any board meeting of the channel. Ms Kanimozhi expressed confidence that she will come out clean in the entire matter.

We will face the entire thing legally. My family is not divided on the issue. It is a very very serious charge and i am very clear and i am very sure that we will come out of it and i will come of it  clean . There is nothing to say that i am a co conspirator.

Year-long celebrations to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore begin in New Delhi today. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will launch the celebrations in the presence of National Advisory Council Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and will release a slew of Commemorative items including a pack of 6 DVDs of films based on Tagore’s stories.  AIR correspondent reports that India and Bangladesh had last year decided to jointly celebrate the 150th anniversary of Tagore.

The writer and painter who gave both India and Bangladesh their national anthems-“Jana Gana Mana” and “Amar Shonar Bangla”-and who traveled widely, making friends from Europe to Argentina, is still seen as towering cultural icon . He was the first person who was not from the West to win the prestigious Nobel Prize for Literature for his prolific work. He was also a huge source of inspiration for another icon from Bengal-film-maker Satyajit Ray. The Joint Committee for the drafting of the Lok Pal Bill will meet in New Delhi today to take forward the process of drafting an effective legislation to combat corruption. The drafting committee has held two meetings so far and decided to put on fast track the finalisation of the Lokpal Bill. The Committee has Five Ministers and five Social Activists on the panel.  Both the government and civil society have exchanged the drafts of the proposed legislation prepared by them and have held discussions on several major issues in the second meeting. AIR correspondent says that issues such as  inclusion of the PMO and Judiciary in the proposed legislation are likely to be the focus of discussions in today's meeting. Scientists of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre have developed a device to locate tumours.  The device called the Digital Radiotherapy Simulator helps in identifying the organs at risk and in localising the cancer-affected tissues.  It also helps in conducting teletherapy to choose the right radiation beam and aim it at the target. Group Director of the Remote Handling and Robotics Division at the Centre, Dr. Manjit Singh said in Mumbai that the first machine with the Radiotherapy simulator has been installed in the Indian Red Cross Society Hospital, Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.

The US Administration has asked Pakistan to show concrete actions to prove its commitment in the war against terrorism.  A statement came from the State Department in this regard amid increasing questions being raised by US lawmakers and think tanks on Pakistan's commitment to fight against terrorism.  State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters in Washington that the United States has asked a number of questions to Pakistan with regard to the hideout of Osama bin Laden in an affluent suburb of Islamabad.  He also said that US-Pak counter terrorism cooperation that has been going on since 9/11 has borne fruit and has led to some successes.

In today's matches, Chennai Super Kings will meet Kolkata Knight Riders at 4 p.m. at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and Mumbai Indians will clash with the Delhi Daredevils in Mumbai.

A courtroom breather for DMK MP Kanimozhi, who cited 'gender' for  leniency and bail in the 2G spectrum case is covered prominently in the Press. The Hindustan Times writes - Kanimozhi's  lawyer Ram Jethmalani sought to pass on the 2G spectrum scam blame on to A Raja, saying she had no role to play in it. "Decision on Kanimozhi bail plea today", writes The Tribune.

The Asian Age reports "If arrested, Kanimozhi will be taken first to Tihar Jail, and later shifted to the Rohini Jail's Women's Wing".

News of the aftermath of Osama Bin Laden's death continues to be on the the front pages. The Indian Express reports that after reviewing computer files and seized documents from Bin Laden's Abbottabad residence, American intelligence analysts have concluded that Bin Laden had played a direct role for years in plotting terror attacks from his hide out, and had not been relegated to being only an inspirational figure.

The Times of India reports that the United States answered Pakistan's threat of 'dire consequences' for America - in the event of another violation of its sovereignty - with another punitive drone attack on Friday, as Washington's focus shifted to Mullah Omar, Al Zawahiri and other terrorists it believes are hiding in that country.
