• दुनिया के नेताओं ने अलकायदा सरगना ओसामा बिन लादेन के मारे जाने का स्वागत किया। भारत ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय और पाकिस्तान से सभ्य आचरण के लिए खतरनाक, सभी गुटों की गतिविधियां समाप्त करने को कहा।
• पश्चिम बंगाल विधानसभा चुनाव के चौथे चरण का मतदान कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच जारी।

 दुनियाभर में ओसामा बिन लादेन के मारे जाने का स्वागत हुआ है।
 भारत ने इसे आतंकवाद के खिलाफ वैश्विक युद्ध में मील का पत्थर बताया है। प्रधानमंत्री डॉक्टर मनमोहन सिंह ने एक बयान में आशा व्यक्त की कि इससे अलकायदा और अन्य आतंकी गुटों का मनोबल टूटेगा। उन्होंने कहा कि अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय समुदाय विशेषकर पाकिस्तान को एकजुट होकर ऐसे सभी गुटों की गतिविधियों को खत्म करना चाहिए जो सभ्य आचरण के लिए बड़ा खतरा बन गए हैं। आतंकवादी गुट, बेगुनाह लोगों की हत्या कर रहे हैं।
 गृहमंत्री पी चिदम्बरम ने कहा है कि ओसामा के मारे जाने से भारत की ये आशंका सही साबित हुई है विभिन्न गुटों के आतंकवादियों को पाकिस्तान में पनाह मिलती है। उन्होंने मुम्बई आतंकी हमलों की साजिश करने वालों के अब भी पाकिस्तान में होने का मामला उठाया। उन्होंने पाकिस्तान सरकार से कहा कि उसके गृहमंत्री को जिन लोगों के नाम और आवाज के नमूने दिये गये हैं, उन्हें गिरफ्‌तार किया जाए।
  विदेश मंत्री एस.एम. कृष्णा ने पाकिस्तान के आतंकवादियों की पनाहगाह बनने पर भारत की चिंता व्यक्त की।

हमारा क्षेत्र आतंकवाद से ग्रसित है और हमारा पड़ोस आतंकवादियों का गढ़ और उनका आरक्षित मार्ग बन गया। अब हमे सोच विचार का और मिलकर काम करना चाहिए। ताकि आतंवादियों का हमेशा के लिए सफाा हो जाए।
 अमरीका की विदेश मंत्री हिलेरी क्लिंटन ने कहा कि आतंकवाद के खिलाफ लड़ाई अभी समाप्त नहीं हुई है।

हमने जिस तरह यह महत्त्वपूर्ण उपलब्धि हासिल की है उसी तरह आगे भी सहयोग बनाये रखना जरूरी है। हमे यह नही समझना चाहिए कि ओसामा के मारे जाने के साथ अलकायदा और अन्य आतंकवादी गुटों के साथ लड़ाई खत्म हो जायेगी। बल्कि हमे इससे उत्साहित होकर अपना इरादा और मजबूत करना होगा। तथा अपने प्रयासों को और तेज करना होगा।
 फ्रांस के राष्ट्रपति निकोला सरकोजी ने ओसामा का पीछा कर उसे मारने के लिए अमरीका की तारीफ की।
 ऑस्ट्रेलिया की प्रधानमंत्री जूलिया गिलार्ड ने ओसामा के मारे जाने की खबर का स्वागत किया है। उन्होंने कहा है कि इससे अलकायदा को झटका लगा है, लेकिन वह खत्म नहीं हुआ है। उन्होंने कहा कि आतंकवाद के खिलाफ लड़ाई जारी रहनी चाहिए। ब्रिटेन और रूस ने भी इस खबर का स्वागत किया है।
 जर्मनी के विदेश मंत्री गुइडो वेस्टरवेले ने कहा कि लादेन की मौत दुनिया के हर उस आदमी के लिए एक अच्छी खबर है जो खुले दिमाग का है और शांतिपूर्ण है।
 बांगलादेश और सऊदी अरब सहित कई अन्य देशों ने भी इस घटना का स्वागत किया है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद ने ओसामा की मौत को आतंकवाद के खिलाफ लड़ाई में महत्वपूर्ण कदम बताया।
 व्हाइट हाउस में आतंकवादरोधी अभियान के सलाहकार जॉन ब्रेनन ने कहा है कि अमरीका अलकायदा सरगना ओसामा बिन लादेन को मौका मिलने पर जिन्दा पकड़ने के लिए तैयार था। उन्होंने कहा कि उसने विरोध किया जिसके बाद उसके सिर में गोली मारी गई।

 पश्चिम बंगाल में पूर्व मेदिनीपुर, हुगली, हावड़ा और बर्धमान जिलों के कुछ हिस्सों में ६३ सीटों पर कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच मतदान जारी है। एक करोड़ २६ लाख से अधिक मतदाता ३६६ उम्मीदवारों के भाग्य का फैसला करेंगे। हमारे संवाददाता के अनुसार इन चारों जिलों में कुल १५ हजार ७११ मतदान केन्द्र बनाये गये हैं। हमारे संवाददाता की रिपोर्ट

देश के इस भाग में सूर्योदय पहले होने की वजह से सुबह से ही बड़ी तादात में लोग मतदान केन्द्रों का रूख कर रहे हैं। मैंने हावड़ा जिले के कुछ विधानसभा क्षेत्रों का दौरा करने बाद पाया कि पिछले तीन चरणों की तरह इस दफे भी मतदाओं मे काफी जोश है। कोलकाता से सटे रहने और गंगा तट पर सघन औद्योगिकीकरण के लिए एक समय पूर्वी भारत के सीफिल्ड के खिताब से नवाजे जाने के बावजूद आजकल कारखाने बंद पड़े हैं, जो बचे हैं वो खस्ताहाल हैं। अब हावड़ा की पहचान तेजी से बढ़ते झुग्गी-झोपड़ियां, कचड़ों ढेर, खुले बदबुदार नालों और कंकरीट के जंगल के रूप में होती है। इन्ही मुद्दों का संज्ञान लेकर यहां के मतदाता जिसमें काफी हद तक अन्य प्रांतो के वासिंदे भी शामिल हैं, आज की वोटिंग में शिरकत कर रहे हैं। आकाशवाणी समाचार के लिए हावड़ा से मैं शम्भुनाथ चौधरी।

 बिहार में पंचायत चुनाव के पांचवे चरण में ५१ ब्लाकों के ८४२ ग्राम पंचायतों में कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच मतदान हो रहा है। मतदान सुबह सात बजे शुरू हुआ और शाम पांच बजे तक चलेगा। नक्सल प्रभावित इलाकों में मतदान तीन बजे समाप्त हो जाएगा। ४९ लाख ५५ हजार से अधिक मतदाता ८५ हजार ४०३ उम्मीदवारों के राजनीतिक भाग्य का फैसला करेंगे। राज्य सरकार ने घुसपैठ रोकने के लिए बिहार से सटी भारत-नेपाल सीमा सील कर दी है।

 नागर विमानन मंत्री व्यालार रवि ने कहा है कि सरकार एयर इंडिया के हड़ताली पायलटों से तभी बातचीत करेगी, जब वे काम पर लौट आयेंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार न्यायालय की अवमानना पर अदालत के फैसले का इंतजार करेगी और उसका पालन करेगी।  दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय ने कल हड़ताल पर स्थगन आदेश के बावजूद हड़ताल जारी रखने के लिए भारतीय वाणिज्यिक पायलट संघ के पदाधिकारियों के खिलाफ अवमानना की कार्यवाही शुरू की। न्यायालय ने हड़ताली पायलटों को काम पर लौटने के फिर निर्देश दिए और एयर इंडिया प्रबंधन से हड़ताली पायलटों की मांगों पर विचार करने को कहा। न्यायालय आज आगे सुनवाई करेगा।
 पायलट हड़ताल के कारण एयर इंडिया को कल १६५ उड़ानें रद्द करनी पड़ी। पायलटों के वकील ने न्यायालय को बताया कि अगर प्रबंधन, पायलट संघ की मान्यता बहाल करने और बर्खास्त पायलटों को नौकरी पर वापस लेने की मांग मान लेता है तो वे तत्काल हड़ताल समाप्त कर देंगे।
 इस बीच एयर इंडिया के पायलटों की हड़ताल के कारण विभिन्न स्थानों पर फंसे यात्रियों को निजी एयरलाइन्स से ऊंची दरों पर टिकट खरीदने पड़ रहे हैं। नागर विमानन मंत्री व्यालार रवि ने निजी एयरलाइन्स को हड़ताल का फायदा उठाकर टिकट मंहगे न करने के निर्देश दिये हैं।

हमने निजी एयर लांइन कम्पनियों के साथ दिन भर बैठक की हमने उनसे कहा कि ऐसे समय में सभी को हमारा सहयोग करना चाहिए। सरकार यात्री किराये में इस तहत की बढ़ोतरी को बर्दाश्त नही करेगी।

 लोकपाल विधेयक का मसौदा तैयार करने वाली संयुक्त समिति में शामिल सरकार और समाज के प्रतिनिधियों ने तीस जून तक इसे अंतिम रूप देने का संकल्प किया है। समिति के सदस्य, मानव संसाधन विकास मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने बैठक के बाद बताया कि समाज के प्रतिनिधियों ने उन उद्देश्यों और आम सिद्धान्तों के बारे में एक दस्तावेज प्रस्तुत किया, जिस पर यह कानून आधारित होगा।
 श्री कपिल सिब्बल ने कहा कि दोनों पक्ष एक-दूसरे के प्रस्तावों पर गौर करेंगे। शनिवार को होने वाली बैठक में इन पर फिर से बातचीत होगी। सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता अरविंद केजरीवाल ने आगे होने वाली बैठकों के बारे में जानकारी दी।

 यह डिसाइड हुआ कि मई के महीने में तीन डेट फिक्स हुई है। एक तो ७ तारीख को २३ तारीख को और ३० तारीख को मीटिंग्स होंगी। और अगर जरूरत पड़ी तो जून के महीने में ज्यादा मीटिंग होगी। ताकि इस काम को फाइनिलाइज जून के महीने में किया जा सके। और हमें यह उम्मीद है कि यह स्पीड पकडेगा। ड्राफ्टिंग करने का काम।

 सरकार ने फैसला किया है कि गरीबी रेखा से नीचे के परिवारों को राशन की दुकानों के जरिये और पचास लाख टन गेहूं तथा चावल दिया जाएगा। इससे इन परिवारों को अनाज की बढ़ती कीमतों से कुछ राहत मिल सकेगी।
 गेहूं और चावल का आवंटन बढ़ाने का फैसला, कल नई दिल्ली में वित्तमंत्री की अध्यक्षता में मंत्रियों के अधिकार प्राप्त समूह ने किया। इससे गरीबी रेखा के नीचे के लगभग साढ़े छह करोड़ परिवारों को हर महीने ३५ किलोग्राम प्रति परिवार अनाज रियायती दर पर मिल सकेगा।

  अरूणाचल प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री दोरजी खांडू के लापता हैलीकॉप्टर की तलाश अबपश्चिमी कमेंग जिले में ६६ वर्ग किलोमीटर के क्षेत्र में सीमित होगी जहां इसरो द्वारा जारी उपग्रह चित्रों में धरती पर धातु के टुकड़े दिखाई दिये हैं। रक्षा सूत्रों के अनुसार अनेक खोजी दल नागा जिजी के पास काफी घने जंगलों के बीच इस ऊंचे स्थान पर पहुंचने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं।
 हमारे संवाददाता ने ईटानगर से जानकारी दी है कि खराब मौसम की वजह से तलाश के काम में परेशानी आ रही है।

कल शाम मुख्यमंत्री आवास पर आयोजित एक उच्चस्तरीय बैठक के बाद केंद्रीय मंत्री  नारायण स्वामी ने बताया कि खोज अभियान दल आज सुबह तक ही रिपोर्ट दे सकेगा। उन्होंने कहा लापता हेलीकाप्टर के खोज कार्य में केंद्र और भूटान सरकार राज्य सरकार को पूरी मदद दे रही है। राज्य के लोक निर्माण मंत्री नायुक तुग्गी ने कहा दुर्गम पहाड़ी क्षेत्र और खराब मौसम की वजह से  खोज अभियान में मुश्किले हो रही हैं तेज+पुर स्थित रक्षा सूत्रों ने बताया कि मौसम अनुकूल होने की स्थिति में खोज अभियान के लिए आज सुबह त्वांग और तेज+पुर से वायुसेना के दो एम आई १७ दो चीता और दो चेतक हेलिकाप्टर उड़ान भरेंगे। मुरारी गुप्ता आकाशवाणी समाचार ईटानगर।

 पर्यावरण मंत्री जयराम रमेश ने ओड़ीशा सरकार को पॉस्को इस्पात संयंत्र के लिए एक हजार दो सौ ५३ हेक्टेयर वन्य भूमि ंदेने को अतिम मंजूरी दे दी है। लेकिन पॉस्को कंपनी को इस प्रस्तावित परियोजना से कच्चा माल निर्यात करने की अनुमति नहीं होगी। सरकारी विज्ञप्ति में श्री रमेश ने कहा है कि कंपनी जिले में उजाड़ होने वाली जमीन के संरक्षण का खर्च उठायेगी और राज्य सरकार बाद में इसका निर्धारण करेगी। पर्यावरण मंत्री ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि पर्यावरण और वन कानूनों का गंभीरता से पालन किया जाना चाहिए।

 सीरिया में सुरक्षा बलों ने सैंकड़ों विद्रोही नेताओं को गिरफ्तार किया है। दक्षिणी शहर दारा में एक प्रत्यक्षदर्शी ने बताया है कि पुलिस घरों में तलाशी ले रही है और करीब चार सौ लोगों को उनके घरों से निकाल दिया गया है। सरकारी मीडिया ने बताया है कि सेना ने दस हथियारबंद आतंकवादियों को मार दिया है और सैंकड़ों को गिरफ्तार किया है।

 लीबिया की राजधानी त्रिपोली में मुअम्मर अल गद्दाफी के बेटे के अन्तिम संस्कार के दौरान गद्दाफी के कई समर्थक जमा हुए। उनका बेटा सैफ अल अरब नेटो की सेैन्य कार्रवाई के दौरान मारा गया था।
 उधर, मिसराता में गद्दाफी की सेना के विद्रोहियों पर राकेट हमले जारी हैं।

 आज विश्व प्रेस स्वतंत्रता दिवस है। इस वर्ष का विषय है- २१ वीं शताब्दी का मीडिया-नई सीमाएं, नई बाधांए। संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता के महत्व के प्रति जागरुकता पैदा करने और मानवाधिकारों की सार्वभौमिक घोषणा के अनुच्छेद १९ के तहत स्वतंत्रता के अधिकार के संरक्षण और सम्मान के लिए सरकारों को अपना कर्तव्य याद रखने के लिए यह दिवस घोषित किया था। इसे विन्डहोक ॅप्छक्भ्व्म्ज्ञ घोषणा पत्र के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।

 संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव बान की मून ने अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय प्रेस स्वतंत्रता दिवस के मौके पर सरकारी दबावों के खिलाफ प्रेस के कामों की सराहना की है। उन्होंने कहा कि जब सरकार लोगों को दबाने पर उतर आती है तो ऐसे समय में अखबार और मीडिया की स्वतंत्रता अहम भूमिका निभाती है।

 पाकिस्तान में अमरीकी कार्रवाई में ओसामा बिन लादेन की मौत आज के अखबारों में बाहर से भीतर तक छाई हुई है।
राष्ट्रीय सहारा की सुर्खी है- एक था लादेन। दैनिक भास्कर के अनुसार आतंक अब बिन लादेन। जनसत्ता की सुर्खी है - अलकायदा हुआ बिन लादेन।
 नई दुनिया ने इस जीत में भारत की खुफिया भागीदारी का दावा किया है।
 अखबारों ने ओसामा को समुद्र में दफनाये जाने की खबर के साथ ओसामा का इतिहास तो टटोला ही है, साथ ही इस घटना के निहितार्थ उजागर करने की भी कोशिश की है। राजस्थान पत्रिका लिखता है- अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय आतंकवाद का चेहरा खत्म, मोहरे बाकी। इकॉनॉमिक टाइम्स की सुर्खी है- लादेन खत्म , आतंक नही।
 अखबारों ने इस मामले में पाकिस्तान की भूमिका पर भी सवाल उठायें हैं। हिन्दुस्तान के अनुसार खुली पोल, पाकिस्तान का भी खेल खत्म। पत्र में एक विशेषज्ञ की टिप्पणी है- कि अमरीका ने  इतना बड़ा आपरेशन अपने बल-बूते किया, कुछ हजम नहीं होता। पत्र का यह भी कहना है कि इससे भारतीय उप महाद्वीप में स्थिति कम से कम अभी तो ज्यादा विस्फोटक हो गई है। भारत को इसकी वजह से ज्यादा चौकन्ना रहना होगा।
 दैनिक भास्कर की विशेष सम्पादकीय टिप्पणी के अनुसार बड़ा खतरा यह है कि अमरीका और अन्य पश्चिमी देशों को अलकायदा के खिलाफ आतंकवाद की असली लड़ाई से रूबरू होना पड़ेगा।
 ओसामा के अन्त से विदेशी शेयर बाजारों के झूमने और कच्चे तेल, सोना और चांदी में गिरावट की खबर भी अखबारों में है।
 सी बी एस ई की अखिल भारतीय इंजीनियरिंग प्रवेश परीक्षा ११ मई को ३८ शहरों में दोबारा लिए जाने की खबर नवभारत टाइम्स ने दी है। परीक्षा के प्रश्नपत्र लीक होने की जांच शुरू होने की खबर भी अखबारों ने दी है।
 हिन्दुस्तान ने रेल यात्रियों के अधिकारों की चर्चा करते हुए खबर दी है कि रेलवे बोर्ड १५ मई को निर्देश जारी करने जा रहा है कि यात्री टी टी ई से पहचान पत्र मांग सकेंगे।

The killing of the dreaded terrorist and founder of Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden has been welcomed the world over. India has described it as a milestone in the global war against terror. In a statement Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh hoped that it will deal a decisive blow to the Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. He said that the international community and Pakistan in particular, must work comprehensively to end the activities of all such groups who threaten civilized behaviour and kill innocent men, women and children. Home Minister P. Chidambaram said, the killing of Osama Bin Laden deep inside Pakistan, underlines India's concern that terrorists belonging to different organisations find sanctuary in Pakistan which vindicates India's stand. Chidambaram raised the subject of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack plotters still being in Pakistan. He called upon the government of Pakistan to arrest the persons whose names have been handed over to the Interior Minister of Pakistan as well as provide voice samples of certain persons who are suspected to be among the handlers of the terrorists. Underlining India's concerns about Pakistan being a sanctuary for terrorists External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna said that the operation to kill the world's most wanted terrorist in Pakistan's Abbotabad, brings to a close, an almost decade-long search for the head of the Al Qaeda.

This is a milestone in terms of free world's war on terror. Our region is infested with terrorism and our neighborhood has become the sanctuary and a safe haven for terrorists. Now we should all put our heads together and act together so that the terrorists are defeated once and for all.

World leaders have described the killing of Osama Ben Laden as a major event in the fight against terrorism. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has praised the United States for its tenacity in hunting down Osama Ben Laden. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said the news of Osama bin Laden's death was welcome, but cautioned that Al-Qaeda has been hurt today, but it is not finished and the war against terrorism must continue. German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said, Laden's death was good news for all men in the world who think freely and are peaceful. Italian Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini called it a victory of good over evil, of justice over cruelty. Britain and Russia have also welcomed the event. Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and many other countries have also hailed the killing of Osama Ben Laden.

The UN Security Council has called the death of Osama as a critical development in the fight against terrorism. In a rare statement on any unilateral Military operation by a member country it urged all nations to intensify efforts to bring all sponsors of terrorism to justice. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that Washington's fight against terror will continue despite the death of Osama bin Laden.

Continued cooperation will be just as important in the days ahead, because even as we mark this milestone, we should not forget that the battle to stop AI Qaeda and its syndicate of terror will not end with the death of bin Laden.

The polling is underway for the fourth phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal. Voting is taking place in 63 constituencies spread over East Midnapore, Hooghly, Howrah and parts of Burdwan districts in this phase. The polling, which started at 7 am, will end at 5 in the evening. 366 candidates including seven Ministers are in the fray for this phase. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls. One Special Observer, 42 General and four Police Observers will constantly monitor the poll process. Besides state police around 500 companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed in four districts to ensure peaceful voting. Central forces are manning all the polling booths. Out of total polling booths 4444 are critical. Digital and video cameras and web casting mechanism kept ready to monitory the voting process in vulnerable ares. Special vigils have also been maintained at several booths. The political fate of seven minister will be decided in 4th phase of election. In Bihar, polling is underway for the fifth phase of Panchayat elections at 842 Gram Panchayats spread over 51 blocks. The polling, which began at 7 am, will continue till 5 in the evening. In Naxal affected area, polling will end at 3 pm.

Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi has said that the government will talk to the striking Air India pilots only if they end their agitation and report to work. The minister also said that the government will wait and abide by the court's order in the Contempt of Court proceeding initiated on the plea of the Air India management. The Delhi High Court yesterday started hearing contempt proceedings against the office bearers of Indian Commercial Pilots' Association, ICPA for continuing their agitation and ignoring a stay order on the strike. The Court again directed the pilots to end their strike immediately and also asked the management to consider their demands. The court will again take up the matter for hearing today. Air India yesterday cancelled about 165 flights. The pilots union again ignored the Delhi High Court's directive to call off the strike. The counsel for the pilots informed the court that they will immediately call off the strike if the management takes up two of their demands - restoring recognition of ICPA and re-instating the sacked pilots. Directorate General of Civil Aviation has directed the private airlines not to take advantage of the strike by hiking air fares. This was disclosed by Civil Aviation Minister Vyalar Ravi in New Delhi yesterday.

So far they are on strike, we will not talk to them. Director General called a meeting of all the private airlines. In the meeting we impressed upon them not to do this. This time which everybody should cooperate with us and the government will not agree upon any kind of exploitation of the situation.

Search operations to locate the missing chopper with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu on board will now be confined to a 66-sq km area in West Kameng district where ISRO satellite images have shown metallic objects on the ground. Defence sources said in New Delhi that several ground teams of searchers are trying to reach the probable locations near Naga Jiji, that are heavily forested and at a high altitude. Meanwhile, Border Road Organisation employees, based in Banga Ganga camp, have also claimed that they heard the sound of a big explosion from the nearby forest on Saturday morning, almost the same time when the chopper went missing. The government and the civil society activists, who are members of the Drafting Committee of the Lokpal Bill, have pledged to expedite the process to finalise the Bill by the 30th of next month. Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal, who is a member of the Drafting Committee, told reporters after the meeting that the civil society members on the Committee presented a document with respect to the objects of the Bill which enunciated the general principles underlining the Bill. He said, there was no difference of opinion during the meeting and talks were very good. Mr. Sibal explained that the civil society members and the government will think about the proposals given by the two sides and discuss them again in the next meeting on Saturday.

48 hours after a Pawan Hans helicopter carrying the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister went missing, the story continues to be widely covered by most major dailies. "Search narrows to 66-km area in West Kameng" reports The Indian Express. Hindustan Times under the headline "Satellite images throw up clues to Khandu's chopper" reports that the search operation to locate the helicopter carrying Dorjee Khandu will now be confined to a 66-square km area in West Kameng where an ISRO satellite has picked up images of a possible wreckage.
